In this paper the authors explain how they investigated the issue of gender and the media in the UK, looking at how the audience feels about both the amount of coverage of men and women and their views on the quality and character of portrayal on TV, radio and online. As well as exploring the methodological challenges in researching the subject, they also discuss how they used the Bem Sex Role Inventory to explore whether where the audience sits on a spectrum of masculinity/femininity helps to explain their consumption and appreciation of the television they consume.

Research on gender bias in science has often focused on the effects of gender stereotypes or a lack of female role models on the recruitment and retention of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, or on the discrimination women scientists face. Systemic bias fuels, and is cyclically reinforced by, media representations of scientists (who are most often presented as white men). While many proposed interventions to address gender inequality in science focus on changing women’s beliefs or behaviour to help them succeed, more inclusive representation of scientists could meaningfully contribute to reshaping the cultural beliefs that act on both genders to deny women opportunities and produce inhospitable learning and working environments.

This article studies how woman presented to society on television. In relation to masculine and feminine, television always descripts woman as a domestic person which depend on the power of men. Vice versa, a man is a public person who does not depent on the power of woman. Also the senetron theme presents the relation of masculine and feminine where man always comes up as a person who has capability to protects the woman which considered as the person who does not has capability. Therefore, the changes to the various televison programms has to be done absolutely by various side which bother about the existence of gender justice in the public area.

Television was one of mainstream mass media which people still uses for their information needs. People will follow and gives reference to act learning from television conten. Gender was a social context to descripe compare man and women in information consumption behaviour for television. The purpose of this research is to look at the level of gender differences in the behavior of consuming mass media, especially talk shows Hotman Paris Show on iNews television. This research uses the uses and gratification theory from Palmgreen and Rosengreen (1985) model. The research method with a quantitative approach, with chi square test hypotesis. The sample used was 80 students at a campus in Jakarta with simple random sampling. The results showed no difference in behavior after consuming information talk shows Hotman Paris Show on iNews television between men and women. The element most seen in talk shows on television is education. Dominant behavior that arises after watching a talk show on television shows is cognitive or shows only affect the minds of the people.

The editors of these newspaper thinks that the coverage of the community is low due to low involvement of this community in society whereas this community thinks that they are doing that kind of work which can be a news for media.

The widespread usage of social media has attracted a new group of researchers seeking information on who, what and, where the users are. Some of the information retrieval researchers are interested in identifying the gender, age group, and the educational level of the users. The objective of this work is to identify the gender in the Arabic posts in the social media. Most of the works related to gender classification has been for English based content in the social media. Work for other languages, such as Arabic, is almost next to none. Typically people express themselves in the social media using colloquial, so this study is geared towards the identification of genders using the Saudi dialect of the Arabic language. To solve the gender identification problem the authors, a novel method called k-Top Vector (k-TV), which is based on the k-top words based on the words occurrences and the frequency of the stems, was introduced. Part of this work required compiling a dataset of Saudi dialect words. For this, a well-known widely used social site was relied on. To test the system, we compiled 1200 samples equally split between both genders. The authors trained Support Vector Machine (SVM) and k-NN classifiers using different number of samples for training and testing. SVM did a better job and achieved an accuracy of 95% for gender classification.

The article aims to identify whether the expression of senior adolescents’ national identity at the cognitive, emotional and connotative levels, as well as its formation, is dependent on gender. Seeking to reveal the possible influence of gender on the national identity, the significance of the contemporary social gender theory, when gender depends on the subjective choice of an individual, as well as the relevance of theories that do not question biological, psychological, and social gender differences, are highlighted. The data obtained during the conducted research allow stating that the expression of the national identity of adolescents differs between the genders at the cognitive, emotional, and connotative levels, and the factors that contribute to building up of the national identity to a large extent do not differ from one gender to the other.

Media, as an important and powerful social institution, contributes in the construction and reinforcement of perceptions and beliefs about gender. The media images of gender have been found stereotypical and discriminated while there have been many debates on the under representation and biased treatment of gender related issues. This research study particularly analyzed how media narratives play a part in the construction of gender identities in animated movies. The study focused to investigate how femininity and masculinity have been build up in movies, which sort of roles have been assigned to both genders and which identities have been emphasized in the animated movies of Time Warner and Walt Disney during the time period of 2008 to 2013. Gender schema and social learning theories gave implications to the research findings. Both quantitative and qualitative content analysis of fourteen animated movies was conducted. The study concluded that there is stereotypical representations of gender in movies. The women are under-represented and usually negatively portrayed while the men have shown with more societal powers.

This study aimed to reformulate the ijtihad of gender-responsive fiqh. Such ijtihad model is needed in order to respond to the developments and dynamics of life in the current contemporary era. Moreover, current social reality and condition are often associated with empowerment of and justice for women. Movements and responses toward women’s issues recently has been occurring quite monumentally on social media. Such movements represent a response toward media development, especially on social media platforms. This literature-based study collected data from literature studies and descriptive critical analysis. Through the critical analysis, this study found an interpretation of gender fiqh ijtihad model initiated through social media platforms.

Pengabdi adalah dosen ilmu komunikasi dan pengamat media. Dengan kepakaran di media massa dan komunikasi gender, pengabdi bekerjasama Dinas Pemberdayaan Perempuan Perlindungan Anak Pengendalian Penduduk dan Keluarga Berencana (DP3AP2KB) Provinsi Jawa Tengah menjadi fasilitator dalam Pelatihan Media Sensitif Gender bagi Penggiat Media di Provinsi Jawa Tengah. Acara ini dilakukan di lima kota, dan masing-masing kota memiliki 45 peserta. Para peserta mewakili berbagai elemen seperti jurnalis TV, jurnalis radio, jurnalis cetak, pers kampus, dan akademisi. Acara ini diharapakn bisa mengujudkan pemberitaan yang ramah gender dan meningkatkan pengetahuan para awak media akan pentingnya media sensitif gender.

From a cultural approach and a feminist perspective, this article analyzes a gendered narrative of official corruption in China through news reports of “keeping a second wife.” Moreover, it engages the lived experiences and perceptions of the message receivers. Drawing upon feminist discourse analysis, interviews, and digital ethnography, this study shows that a cultural script derived from the Chinese storytelling tradition of “women are a source of trouble” serves as a contemporary narrative of corruption in the state media. Nevertheless, the media narrative has generated a vigorous audience counternarrative, which disconnects the media linkage between “second wives” and corruption.

Patriarchy results in gender inequality in the social environment. This makes women and men have roles, status and even emotional levels that tend to discriminate. So that researchers are interested in analyzing and criticizing gender inequality in Indonesia through campaigns carried out by the @lawanpatriarki and @lakilakibaru Instagram accounts, where the two accounts have different backgrounds but have one goal. This research uses a qualitative approach with a critical paradigm and an interpretive type. As for the data collection methods used are screenshots of posts on gender equality content and captions on Instagram accounts @lawanpatriarki and @lakilakibaru, notes, journals, books, and articles on the website or the internet. This data collection is used to obtain information regarding the messages that the two accounts convey in the 'Free from Sexual Violence' campaign posts. Then, the data is processed using a discourse analysis text study of Sara Mills. From The research conducted shows that the differences in the background of two accounts have the same goal, namely to voice gender equality which applies to all parties, both men, women and others. Everyone has the right to feel free from sexual violence, especially from the shackles of a patriarchy culture. This is because the patriarchy culture is not only detrimental to women but also men. The urgency of the topic of the scientific article is determined by the processes of finding new concepts and applying new approaches to the study of the gender concept of the modern periodicals for women and men in Ukraine. The study of the gender concept is relevant because it reveals new trends and features of modern gender images. The purpose of the article is due to the processes of finding new concepts and the application of new approaches to the study of gender concepts in modern Ukrainian media. The study of the topic is relevant because it allows to identify new trends and features of modern gender images. The macroconcept «woman» can be conventionally divided into the main, that is, the most frequently used microconcepts in the magazines studied, such as: loved one, mistress, mother, girlfriend, mother-in-law, rival. As it turned out, in the studied editions, the macro concept of «man» is reflected in the most frequently used microconcepts: beloved, father, stranger, boss, son, friend. At the core of the gender conceptual sphere there is basic gender macro concepts «woman» and «man» that is used in the investigated periodical in different proportions, depending on the role of women and men in society. Especially because of the sensitivity, thoughtfulness, responsible selection of gender characteristics, which is presented in a gender-labeled periodical, modern and future is formed gender images.

Introduction: Gender based violence in social media has increased. The term of gender based violence can be found on the result of Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women, however there are still not any proper effort to overcome it yet.Purposes of the Research: Knowing and analyzing gender-based violence on social media..Methods of the Research: This study uses a normative juridical method with legal materials used in the study are primary, secondary and tertiary with the use of literature study techniques in the form of international legal regulations, scientific papers and literature.Results of the Research: There are several forms and types of gender based violence in social media like cyber grooming, hacking, infringement of privacy, malicious distribution, revenge porn, impersonation, defamation, and online recruitment. Hence as the way to overcome it, the efforts that can be used is by penal and non-penal efforts. The penal efforts are the implementation of the integrated criminal justice system with gender justice and the regulatory reform through a bill to accommodate the criminal act of gender based violence. Meanwhile the non-penal efforts are by increasing the awareness and knowledge through the campaign movement against gender based violence in social media and providing the complaint and report service accesses (hotline) that are easy to be accessed and fast to respond.
