Videogames have emerged as arguably the most prominent form of entertainment in recent years. Their versatility has made them key contributory factors in social, literary, cultural and philosophical discourse; however, critics also tend to see videogames as posing a threat to established cultural parameters. This thesis argues that videogames are firmly grounded in older media and they are important for the development of the notions of textuality, technicity and identity that literary and cultural theories have been debating in recent years. As its point of departure, the thesis takes the contested role of videogames as storytelling media. Challenging the opposition between games and narratives that is posited in earlier research, the framework of the Derridean concept of supplementarity has been adopted to illustrate how the ludic and the narrative inform each other's core, and yet retain their media-specific identities. It is also vital to consider how the technicity and narrative of games inform their perception as texts. Videogames provide a direct illustration of this but they develop on similar principles in earlier media instead of doing something entirely 'new'. The multitelic structure of videogames tends to be looked upon as symptomatic of novelty; in reality, however, they illustrate more clearly the inherent nature of telos in all narrative media. Videogames point out how narrative endings exist as the actualisation of possible events and identities. These events exist in a zone of potentialities. Between the perception of an occurrence in the game and the player's response to it, there exists an 'affective' interval, where a number of potential events coexist: from among these, one event is actualised. The player's identity, both in-game and in interaction with the game, also evolves accordingly. Seen as an ongoing process, this corresponds well to the Deleuzoguattarian idea of 'becoming'. The space of possibility in which game instances exist is, therefore, a 'zone of becoming'. The intense involvement that players experience is seen as resulting from the continual shifting of identities arising out of the actualisation of possible events. This engagement is not a fixed relationship between the player and the game: instead, it is a 'becoming'. The framework of 'becoming' is vital to the understanding of videogames as narrative media. 'Becoming', however, has already been applied by Deleuze and Guattari to characterise older narrative media such as novels and cinema. Videogames, therefore, not only show that games can be read and books played, but more importantly they also highlight the fact that this has always been the case.

Extending Alexander Galloway’s analysis of the action-image in videogames, this essay explores the concept in relation to its source: the analysis of cinema by the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze. The applicability of the concept to videogames will, therefore, be considered through a comparison between the First Person Shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Andrey Tarkovsky’s film Stalker. This analysis will compellingly explore the nature of videogame-action, its relation to player-perceptions and its location within the machinic and ludic schema.

Web games provide a platform for creative instructional activities that can capture the studentsâ attention towards the course. These games can be used to emulate the realistic situations which can be used as effective lab experiments that could give the students a hands-on experience using real world scenarios. This thesis presents an innovative web-based game developed for the demonstration of the driver-behavior at signalized intersections that can be used as a supplementary tool for the Transportation Engineering course. The game format is carefully designed to supplement the understanding of the class learning material through a fun environment. It was designed to be widely accessible through the internet and have an attractive user interface and was improved from the feedback obtained from the pilot study. The game is programmed on the .NET Framework using the Microsoft Visual C# as a core programming language, ASP to develop the web interface, and Microsoft Access as the databases for the program. The thesis also provides a methodological framework for collecting data about student engagement in a course and in particular presents the data collection procedure used in Transportation Engineering Course (CEE 4609). The collected data was analyzed to find the student engagement in the course after the introduction of the game. The thesis gives the conclusions drawn from the research with insights into possible drawbacks and scope for future improvements.

Les Serious Games (SGs) sont des dispositifs de formation de plus en plus utilisés dans les différents secteurs de l’éducation initiale et continue. Dans le cadre de cette thèse, notre objectif est de concevoir, d’abord, et développer, ensuite, un SG pour la formation et l’évaluation des personnels travaillant en environnement aseptique. Nous présenterons dans ce travail de recherche les approches théoriques qui sont à l’origine de la démarche de conception. Nous en viendrons à la définition d’un modèle unitaire et holistique (PEGADE) qui décrit le processus collaboratif et optimal de conception des SGs et qui s’articule autour d’une nouvelle figure professionnelle, le Pedagogical Game Designer (PGD). Une étude de l’efficacité sera réalisée pour comprendre dans quelle mesure un développement des compétences via le SG est possible et quelle est sa plus-value par rapport aux méthodes traditionnelles de formation pour les mêmes matières. Nous proposerons également une évolution de la théorie du conflit instrumental sur laquelle cette thèse s’appuie qui sera à l’origine d’une nouvelle méthode d’analyse de l’utilisabilité des dispositifs d’apprentissage utilisant les technologies informatiques
Serious games (SGs) are a very widespread training and evaluation device, employed in different sectors of school and adult education. In this study we aim to design and develop a SG for training and evaluating personals working in aseptic environment. We will present in this research the theoretical basis needed for that design process. We will define a holistic and united model (PEGADE), which describes the collaborative and optimal process to conceive SGs and which is constructed around a new professional figure, the Pedagogical Game Designer (PGD). A study of the effectiveness will be performed in order to understand how competences can be developed through the SG and which are the differences between this device if compared with traditional training used for similar purposes. We will propose as well an evolution of the instrumental conflict theory, which is one of the foundations of this thesis. That one will constitute the basic for a new method of usability test applied to every learning tool using ICTs

La pollution phytosanitaire diffuse est un enjeu majeur à l'interface de l'agriculture et l'environnement. Ses conséquences sur la santé humaine et l'environnement ont poussé la société à interroger les scientifiques sur les outils d'aide à la décision et d'évaluation adéquats. Dans cette perspective, ce travail interdisciplinaire entre géographie et agronomie porte sur la mise en place d'outils pour une gestion concertée de la pollution phytosanitaire diffuse au niveau d'un territoire: la Merja Zerga au Maroc. Dans le cadre d'une approche participative, ce travail est basé sur l'utilisation conjointe et interactive de plusieurs outils interdisciplinaires: les Systèmes d'Informations Géographiques (SIG), l'indicateur de fréquence de traitement (IFT), un indicateur de risque de toxicité sur la santé de l'applicateur (IRSA) et environnementale (IRTE), une plate-forme technico-économique et un jeu de simulation par lesquels sont exploitées les données issues de la recherche bibliographique, des relevés de terrain et d'enquêtes auprès des acteurs du territoire. Les résultats de l'analyse multi-échelle du territoire ont permis de mettre en exergue la construction de l'espace du territoire de la Merja Zerga, les conséquences des pratiques phytosanitaires sur la santé humaine de l'applicateur et l'environnement, l'iniquité spatiale et sociale en terme de propension à polluer. En dépassant la simple évaluation, cette approche basée sur des outils génériques, constitue une étape originale pour la mise en place de stratégies de gestion des pesticides sans nuire à la viabilité économique des exploitations agricoles.

The main goal of this dissertation is to introduce the alternate reality game as a new narrative for multiplatform. By new narratives are understood the forms of storytelling arising from the current development of digital technology; and for multiplatform the variety of means by which the contents of these stories can travel. For this main objective is reached, two main hypotheses are formulated: 1) ARGs are stories for multiple platforms using code-breaking with playful and narrative functions; and 2) they are developed from an intense transtextuality guided by pop mythology that flourished during the twentieth century. Based on this starting point, this thesis will examine two ARGs, Uncertain Zone and Why So Serious?, in a way that it contributes to the hypothesis that Alternate Reality Games are a native narrative form of convergence culture founded on an extensive base of pop culture references. In the chapter dedicated to Uncertain Zone will be listed the various media used during the performance of the ARG, that together with interviews with the developers and testimonials from participants will weave a more descriptive overview of how alternate reality games are composed as multiplatform narratives. In addition, a brief discussion on the playful and narrative functions of the code-breaking in ARGs will be outlined. With Why So Serious? the analysis will focus on the intense transtextuality that alternate reality games establish to what will be called pop mythology in this dissertation and in the relationship between ARGs and market. Incidentally issues related to participatory culture will be raised throughout the text, but without further reflection, since, worth reiterating, the main goal of this thesis is the demonstration of a contemporary narrative form from some elements previously submitted, this form is the alternate reality game.
O principal objetivo da presente dissertação é apresentar o ARG (Alternate Reality Game) como uma nova narrativa para multiplataformas. Por nova narrativa, entendemse as formas de contar histórias decorrentes do desenvolvimento atual da tecnologia digital; e por multiplataforma os variados meios através dos quais os conteúdos dessas histórias podem trafegar. Para que esse objetivo principal seja atingido, duas hipóteses principais serão formuladas: 1) os ARGs são narrativas para múltiplas plataformas que utilizam a quebra de código com função lúdica e narrativa; e 2) são desenvolvidos a partir de uma intensa transtextualidade pautada pela mitologia pop que floresceu durante o século XX. Partindo desse ponto de partida, esta dissertação analisará dois ARGs, Zona Incerta e Why So Serious?, de modo a apresentar as características que corroboram a hipótese de que os Jogos de Realidade Alternada são uma forma narrativa nativa da cultura de convergência fundamentada sobre uma extensa base de referências à cultura pop. No capítulo dedicado ao Zona Incerta serão elencadas as diversas mídias utilizadas durante a realização do ARG, que em conjunto com entrevistas com os realizadores e depoimentos de participantes tecerão um panorama mais descritivo de como os Jogos de Realidade Alternada se compõem enquanto narrativas multiplataformas. Além disso, uma breve discussão sobre o caráter lúdico e narrativo da quebra de código nos ARGs será esboçada. Já com Why So Serious? as análises irão se focar na intensa transtextualidade que os Jogos de Realidade Alternada estabelecem com aquilo que nesta dissertação será chamada de mitologia pop e nas relações que os objetos mantêm com o mercado. Driver's distraction is one of the main areas, which researchers are focusing on, in design of Advanced Drivers Assistance Systems (ADASs). Head pose and eye-gaze direction are two reliable indicators of a driver's gaze and the current focus of attention. Compared with other methods that make use of head pose only, methods that combine eye information can achieve higher accuracy. The naturalistic driving environment always presents unique challenges (e.g., unstable illumination, jolts, etc.) to video-based gaze estimation and tracking systems. Some methods can achieve relatively high proficiency in the stationary laboratory environment, but they may not be suitable for the unstable driving environment. In addition, performing in real time or near-real time is another consideration for gaze estimation in an ADAS. Therefore, these special challenges need to be overcome to design ADASs. In this thesis, we proposed a new driver's gaze zone estimation framework designed for the naturalistic driving environment. The framework combines head and eye information to estimate the gaze zone of the driver in both daytime and nighttime. The framework is composed of five main components: Facial Landmark Detection, Head Pose Estimation, Iris Center Detection, Upper Eyelid Information Extraction, and Gaze Zone Estimation. First, Constrained Local Neural Field (CLNF) is applied to obtain the facial landmarks in the image plane and the 3D model of the face in the object frame. In addition, extracting region of interest (ROI) is utilized as an optimization strategy for CLNF facial landmark detection. Second, head pose estimation can be regarded as a Perspective-n-Point (PnP) problem. Levenberg-Marquardt optimization method is used to solve the PnP problem based on the 2D landmark locations in the image plane and their corresponding 3D locations in the object frame. Third, a regression model-based method is employed to obtain the iris center from eye landmarks detected in the previous part. For upper eyelid information extraction, a quadratic function is utilized to model the upper eyelid, and the second-order coefficient is extracted. Finally, the head pose and the eye information are combined to form a feature vector, and Random Decision Forest classifier is utilized to estimate the current gaze zone of the driver from the feature vector extracted. The experiment is carried out in the realistic driving environment in both daytime and nighttime with three volunteers by Kinect sensor V2 for Windows that is put at the back of windshield. Weighted and unweighted accuracy are utilized as evaluation metrics in gaze zone estimation. Weighted accuracy evaluates gaze zones with different significance while unweighted accuracy treats each gaze zone equally. Experiment results show that the gaze zone estimation framework proposed in this work has better performance compared to the reference in the daytime. The weighted and unweighted accuracy of gaze zone estimation reach 96.6% and 95.0% for daytime, respectively. For nighttime, the weighted and unweighted accuracy can reach 96% and 91.4%.

A zona subventricular (SVZ) ? um s?tio de cont?nua neurog?nese em mam?feros p?s-natos e adultos. Ao longo de toda a vida, os progenitores neuronais gerados destinam-se ao bulbo olfat?rio (BO) para onde migram atrav?s da via migrat?ria rostral (RMS). Uma vez no BO, os novos neur?nios se diferenciam em neur?nios GABA?rgicos que integram-se ? circuitaria local. A express?o de GABA inicia ainda na zona germinativa. Essa express?o precoce poderia levar a hip?tese de que estes progenitores j? estariam comprometidos com o fen?tipo GABA?rgico. Por?m, para demonstrar seu comprometimento GABA?rgico, um dos passos necess?rios ? mostrar que a descarboxilase do ?cido glut?mico (GAD), a enzima que sintetiza GABA em neur?nios maduros, est? presente nestas c?lulas. Nesta tese mostramos que a express?o e atividade enzim?tica de GAD, s?o muito baixas na SVZ. Revelamos que o GABA presente em neur?nios imaturos da SVZ prov?m de uma via de s?ntese alternativa, a via da putrescina. Para analisar a import?ncia do GABA proveniente de putrescina para estas c?lulas realizamos a inibi??o farmacol?gica de sua s?ntese atrav?s da administra??o de DFMO. Observamos que o tratamento com DFMO regula positivamente a express?o de GAD na SVZ e RMS. The subventricular zone (SVZ) is proliferative epithelium that continuously gives rise to new neurons in postnatal and adult mammals. The neurons generated in the SVZ migrate through the rostral migratory stream (RMS) where they differentiate in GABAergic interneurons. A characteristic of these neuron precursors is that they start to express GABA while they are still in the SVZ. This fact can lead to the conclusion that at this time they are already commited to the GABAergic phenotype. However, to affirm this one has to show that the origin of GABA in these cells is the same as in mature neurons. One of the most important steps to define GABAergic commitment in neurons is to demonstrate the expression of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), the synthetic enzyme for GABA in mature neurons. Here we show that SVZ cells display low levels of GAD immunocytochemistry and enzyme activity as compared with the olfactory bulb. We also show that these cells are able to synthesize GABA using an alternative source, the putrescine pathway. To test the importance of putrescine made GABA in vivo, we pharmacolgically inhibited putrescine synthesis through DFMO administration. We observed that this treatment lead to an increase of GAD expression in the SVZ and RMS. We also show here that SVZ cells can display phenotypic plasticity. Co-culturing SVZ explants and dorsal telencephalic slices, a spot of glutamatergic neurogenesis, we observed that a subpopulation of SVZ derived neurons differentiated into GABAergic neurons and another into glutamatergic pyramidal neurons. Our working hypothesis is that the putrescine pathway is a mechanism to synthesize GABA without commitment to the GABAergic phenotype. The release of putrescine derived GABA inhibits GAD expression leaving these neuroblasts in an undifferentiated state. The inhibition of putrescine synthesis caused an upregulation of GAD expression which would lead to GABAergic commitment. If we present these neuroblasts with different signals, as those present in the embryonic dorsal telencephalon, they would show plasticity in their phenotypic fate and differentiate into other neurochemical and morphological phenotypes, one of which is the glutamatergic pyramidal neuron.

Between 2002 and 2014, the Bloomberg administration implemented dozens of neighborhood-scale rezonings to catalyze economic growth and create the conditions for new residential development. With the amount of housing affordable to low- and moderate-income households diminishing every year and a new administration publically committed to addressing the city's housing challenges, it is an opportune moment to consider the motivation for and impact of the Bloomberg administration's rezoning program. Though individual rezonings have been subject to extensive scrutiny, little research has been done to assess the technical, social, and political dimensions of the rezoning program as a whole. This thesis explores the way in which Bloomberg administration rezonings guided growth spatially and how that growth affected access to housing for households at various income levels and of different races. Data on development and demographic change suggest that the rezonings facilitated new housing growth in prime, central neighborhoods at the expense of low- and moderate-income renters. In low-density areas, the city conducted rezonings that preserved neighborhoods from new development, but, in combination with an influx of immigrants and renter households, contributed to increasing rent burdens and overcrowding. The quantitative analysis demonstrates that, on aggregate, rezonings were associated with residential displacement in and near the city's core while serving to exclude low-income households in the periphery. An analysis of the social and political context of the rezonings indicates that while the Department of City Planning was motivated by infrastructural and economic considerations, the interests of nongovernmental stakeholders shaped the rezoning program to a significant extent. Homeowner mobilizations produced downzonings particularly in Staten Island, eastern Queens and southern Brooklyn. Meanwhile, development interests spurred rezonings in commercial and industrial areas as well as gentrifying neighborhoods, inducing a sharp increase in housing costs and residential dislocation. While one portion of the rezoning program embodied the interests of homeowners, another was driven by the demands of the development community, resulting in divergent outcomes that undermined access to housing for New Yorkers of limited means. This thesis suggests changes to New York City's planning and zoning mechanisms to more effectively realize citywide growth goals while responding to the particular needs of low-income, largely non-white households.

The effects of two different noise sources upon their surrounding communities were investigated with both quantitative and qualitative measures. A high school football game, which presents continuous noise over a relatively short duration on a predictable schedule was found to have a slight annoyance on its surrounding community. In contrast, a train horn blow at a residential intersection was investigated. This sound was unpredictable and could occur at any time. Residents in this community were found to have a moderate level of annoyance. It was found that each of the noises studied violated suggested noise levels for common household activities, in addition to many local, state, and federal noise regulations. It is recommended that both of the sounds studied herein be reduced or eliminated altogether. Limiting the level of sound produced by the PA system at the football game and using a noise reducing barrier would help in the case of the football game. Converting the railroad intersection into one with sufficient safety features, especially a crossing quad-gate that no longer requires trains to blow their horns would be the optimal solution, with the added benefit of precluding vehicles from entering the crossing when a train is present.

Avec le dernier roman La Bascule du souffle (Prix Nobel) écrit 4 mains avec Oskar Pastior, l’écrivaine allemande d’origine roumaine Herta Müller ouvre à une recherche inédite. La romancière aborde avec le roman un tabou historique et testimonial qui s'impose comme une œuvre de portée universelle. L’écrivaine appartient à la 1.5 génération (Ruban Suleiman), qui exprime ses souvenirs non-vécus par le biais du passé, par l’entremise de l’imaginaire (Marianne Hirsch). Avec le roman comme document de la mémoire collective et culturelle, par l'esthétique de la remémoration, la romancière s’inscrit dans une « communauté de pensée » (C.Coquio) des auteurs-témoins de la première génération (Charlotte Delbo, Robert Antelme, Primo Levi, Jorge Semprún, Jean Cayrol), en mettant à mal les critères moraux et esthétiques sur les camps d’exterminations et les camps de travail forcé, le Stalinisme et le Nationalisme. With her latest novel Atemschaukel/The Hunger Angel (Nobel Prize) of Herta Müller co-written with Oskar Pastior, the Romanian-born German writer opens up a new line of research. With Atemschaukel/ The Hunger Angel she broaches an historical and testimonial taboo that emerges as a work with universal reach. The writer belongs to the 1.5 generation (Ruban Suleiman) who express memories not experienced in the past through imagination (Marianne Hirsch). Le système d'upwelling nord-ouest africain au large du Maroc, de la Mauritanie, de la Gambie et du Sénégal est le système le plus productif au monde en termes de productivité primaire. Elle se traduit par une importante biomasse de poissons principalement dominée par les petits poissons pélagiques qui sont les principales ressources vivantes exploitées de la région. Dans un contexte de gestion partagée par plusieurs pays des ressources halieutiques de la région, comprendre les facteurs qui contrôlent la répartition spatiale de ces populations et l'évolution de leurs abondances est un enjeu crucial pour les pêcheries et le développement socio-économique de la région. Le but principal de cette thèse est d'une part de décrire les variations saisonnières et interannuelles de l'environnement marin de l'upwelling des Canaries le long de la Côte nord-ouest de l'Afrique, et d'autre part de relier ces variations avec les dynamiques spatio-temporelles de ces principales espèces d'importance commerciale. Nous avons utilisé différents jeux de données disponibles et développé différentes approches afin d'avoir une vision la plus complète possible du fonctionnement de cet écosystème. Ainsi, nous avons combiné des données satellitaires, des données de campagnes scientifiques acoustiques, des statistiques de pêche et des analyses de formes d'otolithes. Le long des côtes NW africaines (10°-35° N), nos données nous ont permis d'identifier trois régions avec une saisonnalité et une intensité de l'upwelling bien différencié. La région présente une forte variabilité latitudinale et temporelle des conditions environnementales. La partie sud de la zone (~ entre 10° et 24°N) se caractérise par des eaux plus chaudes et plus riche en Chlorophylle-a que la partie nord. La majeure partie de la variabilité des paramètres environnementaux étudiés est due à la saisonnalité (>60%). Au cours de la période d'étude (2002-2012), nous avons noté une tendance significative au réchauffement allant de 0.01°C. à 0.04°C.an-¹ et un renforcement général de l'upwelling, mais une tendance à la baisse de la concentration en Chl a dans l'ensemble de la zone étudiée. Il existe un gradient latitudinal sud-nord de la phénologie du bloom de phytoplancton (période, durée et l'ampleur du bloom). Cependant, il n'y a pas de tendances interannuelles significatives de la phénologie du bloom phytoplanctonique ni de corrélations ou tendances avec les paramètres physiques de l'environnement étudié (SST, indice d'upwelling, vent). L'écosystème du courant des Canaries se caractérise par le couple sardines/sardinelles. L'anchois, bien que présent dans cet écosystème, ne joue pas un rôle aussi important que dans les autres systèmes d'upwelling. Les relations entre les abondances d'anchois, de sardines et de sardinelles avec les paramètres environnementaux ont été étudiées à différentes échelles à l'aide de modèles additifs généralisés (GAM). Les résultats de notre étude indiquent que les variations spatio-temporelles de l'abondance de l'anchois et de la sardinelle sont davantage contrôlées par le gradient thermique que par la productivité biologique. La sardine semble être plus contrôlée par une fenêtre environnementale optimale d'intensité d'upwelling et de température "optimal upwelling and temperature windows". Nous avons pu pour la première fois mettre en évidence l'existence d'une alternance temporelle d'abondance entre l'anchois et la sardine comme cela est connu dans d'autres systèmes d'upwelling. Enfin, pour contribuer à la connaissance sur la structuration des populations de la sardinelle ronde qui préoccupent les scientifiques et les gestionnaires des pêches, nous avons mené une étude sur l'analyse de la forme des otolithes. L'existence possible de plusieurs stocks de sardinelle en lien avec des structures océanographiques ne confortent pas la politique de gestion actuelle qui considère un stock unique au large de la côte NW africaine
The North West African upwelling system off Morocco, Mauritania, Gambia and Senegal is the most productive system in the world in terms of primary productivity. This productivity results in a large fish biomass dominated by small pelagic fish which are the main living resources exploited in the region. In a context of shared management of fisheries resources by several countries in the region, understanding the factors that control the spatial distribution of populations of small pelagic fish and the evolution of their abundances is a crucial issue for fisheries and the socio-economic development of the region. The main objective of this thesis is to describe the seasonal and interannual variations of the marine environment of the Canary upwelling along the Northwest coast of Africa and to link these variations with the spatio-temporal dynamics of the main small pelagic species of commercial importance of this zone. We have used different sets of data available and developed different approaches in order to have a complete view of the functioning of this ecosystem. Thus, we have combined satellite data, acoustic scientific survey data, fishing statistics and analysis of otolith shapes. Along th NW African coasts ( 10° - 35° N), our data allowed us to identify three regions with a well-differentiated seasonality and intensity of upwelling. The region has a high latitudinal and temporal variability of environmental conditions. The southern part of the zone (between 10° and 24° N) is characterized by warmer and richer Chlorophyll-a waters than the northern part. The majority of the variability of the environmental parameters studied is due to seasonality (> 60%). During the study period (2002-2012), we noted a significant warming trend ranging from 0.01° C to 0.04°C. yr-¹ and a general reinforcement of ipwelling, but a downward trend in Chl a concentration in the whole study area. There is a south-north latitudinal gradient of the phenology of the phytoplankton bloom (period, duration and magnitude of the bloom). However, there are no significant interannual trends in phytoplankton bloom phenology or correlations or trends with the physical parameters of the environment studied (SST, upwelling index, wind). The Canary current ecosystem is characterized by the sardine/ Sardinella pair, Anchovy, althought present in this ecosystem, plays no more important role than in other upwelling systems. The relationships between the abundances of anchovies, sardines and sardinella with environmental parameters have been studied at different scales using generalized additive models (GAM). The results of our study indicate that the spatial and temporal variations of the abundance of anchovy and sardinella are controlled more by the thermal gradient than by the biological productivity. The sardine seems to be more controlled by an "optimal upwelling and temperature windows". We were able for the first time to demonstrate the existence of a temporal alternation of abundance between anchovy and sardine as is known in other upwelling systems. Finally, in order to contribute to the knowledge of population structure of the round sardinella that concern scientists and fisheries managers, we conducted a study of the shape of otoliths. The possible existence of several stocks of sardinella in connection with oceanographic structures do not support the current management policy which considers a single stock off the African NW coast

In this thesis, I expand considerations of diaspora as not only a migration of people and cultures but a migration of thought. Specifically, I demonstrate that literary representations of diaspora produce what I consider to be an epistemological migration, challenging the idea that race and culture are stable and impermeable and offering instead racial and cultural fluidity. I assert that this causal relationship is best exemplified by narratives of racial passing written by diasporic writers. Using Homi Bhabha’s concepts of mimicry, hybridity, and ambivalence, I analyze Helen Oyeyemi’s Boy, Snow, Bird and Zoë Wicomb’s Playing in the Light, arguing that Boy, Snow, Bird’s narrative form is a form of mimicry that repeats European and African literary traditions and subverts Eurocentrism, while Playing in the Light is a “Third Space” in which to accept notions of the non-categorical fluidity of race. Through this analysis, I draw particular attention to Oyeyemi’s and Wicomb’s unique abilities to refract notions of race, rather than presumably reflect a system of strict categories, and, ultimately, I argue that these novels transcend the realm of literature, existing as empowering calls for society’s modifications of its racial perceptions.

O presente estudo investiga os efeitos da inserção do jogo eletrônico Club Penguin (disponível em videogame e em ambiente virtual - www.clubpenguin.com) nas aulas particulares de inglês como segunda língua (L2) a alunos gêmeos, de 7 anos, em processo de alfabetização. O advento da tecnologia trouxe consigo uma cultura própria - a cibercultura, que também envolve as crianças e que pode ser explorada para potencializar a aprendizagem. Utilizamos, nesta pesquisa, uma base teórica sociocultural, fundamentada no trabalho de Vygotsky, e fizemos uma releitura desta, considerando-a para o contexto de jogos eletrônicos. Os dados foram coletados utilizando-se gravações de áudio e vídeo, bem como diário de campo e documentos gerados nas aulas, durante o segundo semestre de 2010. Através de análise qualitativa, verificamos que as características do brincar e do aprender se ampliam no ambiente digital, bem como as possibilidades de interações entre os jogadores. Observamos que os participantes desta pesquisa tiveram avanços na Zona de Desenvolvimento Proximal, propiciados pela prática do andaimento entre pares ou com a professora. Eles também se apropriaram de vocabulário, de estruturas e da cultura da língua alvo, aumentaram o tempo dedicado ao jogo (e, consequentemente, ao estudo da L2) e ampliaram o uso da L2 em aula.
The present study examines the effects of the introduction of the electronic game Club Penguin (available in videogame and in virtual environment - www.clubpenguin.com) into the private English classes as a second language (L2) to seven-year-old twin students. The advance in technology has brought up its own culture – the cyberculture, which also fascinates kids and may be explored to enhance learning. We have used, for this research, a sociocultural theoretical base, grounded on the work of Vygotsky, and we have looked at a new approach of that, considering it to the context of electronic games. The data has been collected through audio and video recordings, and through the diary and documents produced in class, during the second semester of 2010. By means of qualitative analysis, we have noticed that the characteristics of playing and learning are amplified in the digital environment, as well as the possibilities of interactions among players. We have assessed that the participants of this research have had progress at the Zone of Proximal Development, stimulated by the practice of scaffolding among pairs or with the teacher. They have also acquired the L2 vocabulary, structures and culture; increased the time dedicated to the game (and, consequently, to L2 study); and expanded the use of L2 in class.

The aim of this study was to identify different scenic zones in Golden Gate Highlands National Park. A literature study of the different physical aspects that could assist in the identification of different scenic zones in the park was undertaken. From this, it was possible to identify four major scenic zones namely the zone below the Clarens sandstone formation, the Clarens sandstone formation itself, the area above the Clarens sandstone and the mountain crests. This study further placed a monetary value on the different scenic zones as identified by using different elements from the Travel-cost approach, the Hedonic Price Model and the Contingent model. This study indicates that the scenic beauty of Golden Gate Highlands National Park is worth in the order of not less than R 1,6 million monthly. An assessment was made of different existing visual objects within the park and it was measure against the monetary value of the specific scenic zone in which they are situated. The public's opinion was also obtained by means of a questionnaire and further personal interviews. A questionnaire was circulated during the period December 1999 to January 2000 to obtain the public's views. Although the valuing of a scenic view are still regarded as a grey area, this study provides further proof that scenic beauty does indeed have a monetary value and that certain objects are visually misplaced in Golden Gate Highlands National Park. The public also indicated that some objects are actually viewed by them as a visual intrusion.

Este trabalho apresenta uma proposta de sequência didática em problemas de contagem, a partir de situações de jogos. Foi feito um Estudo de Caso numa turma de 8º ano do ensino fundamental do Colégio Militar de Porto Alegre e, ao longo do segundo semestre de 2008, quando da aplicação desses jogos, fizemos observações em relação às estratégias de contagem, às relações sociais, às distintas formas de organizar a resolução dos problemas que surgiam nas atividades e aos esquemas produzidos pelos alunos. Fundamentados na Teoria dos Campos Conceituais (Vergnaud) e na Zona de Desenvolvimento Proximal (Vygotsky), fazemos uma análise de como esses sujeitos se comportaram em diferentes contextos que abordavam o mesmo campo conceitual multiplicativo. Ao término dessa pesquisa, concluímos que o conjunto das diversas situações dos jogos ampliou o leque de representações de contagem e que o ambiente de sala de aula se tornou mais sociável, à medida que os alunos se integravam para um objetivo comum.
This work proposes a teaching sequence in counting problems, from situations of games. Was made a case study in a class of 8th grade of elementary school of the Military School of Porto Alegre and, during the second half of 2008, when following these games, we made observations on the counting strategies, social interaction, different ways of organizing the problems that arose in the activities and the schemes produced by the students. Based on the Theory of Conceptual Fields (Vergnaud) and Zone of Proximal Development (Vygotsky), we made an analysis of how these individuals behave in different contexts that were on the same multiplicative conceptual field. At the end of this research, we conclude that all the different situations of the game expanded the range of representations of counting and that the environment of the classroom has become more sociable, as the students were integrated into a common goal.

Filas de espera constituem um problema crônico nos países que optaram por sistemas universais. Entretanto, no Brasil há poucos estudos sobre filas de espera nos serviços de saúde. Este é um estudo de caso que pretende contribuir acrescentando métrica nessa discussão e fundamentando-a em torno da viabilidade econômico-financeira das decisões em saúde e da regulação, de modo mais amplo. Partindo do contexto de um hospital municipal da zona sul da cidade de São Paulo, analisamos dois cenários diferentes, a demanda proveniente da atenção básica para consulta com especialista, que nem sempre termina na indicação de cirurgia, e as filas de espera internas ao hospital para cirurgia ginecológica, de pacientes já avaliadas e com cirurgia indicada, aguardando seu agendamento. Da análise desses dados, traçamos um novo modelo de gerenciamento da fila de espera para cirurgia ginecológica eletiva nesse hospital. Nossa proposta não tem o objetivo de atingir espera zero. Tampouco é fundamentada em estratégia única. Nossa principal conclusão é que a estratégia mais eficiente para o gerenciamento das filas de espera envolve o fortalecimento das ações de integração com a rede de atenção. No Sistema Único de Saúde, o olhar de linha de cuidado, pode viabilizar efetivamente a entrega de maior valor na assistência prestada e pode ser feita através de iniciativas locais.
Waiting lists are a chronic problem in countries that opted for universal health systems. However, there are few studies on waiting lists in health services in Brazil. This case study aims to contribute by adding metrics to this discussion and grounding it around the economic-financial viability of health care decisions and access regulation in a broader way. Starting from the context of a municipal hospital in the south of the city of São Paulo, we analyzed two different scenarios: the demand for primary care for consultation with a specialist, which does not always end with the recommendation of surgery, and inpatient waiting lists, which have patients that were already evaluated and are waiting for the surgery. From this data analysis, we draw a new management model of gynaecologic elective surgery waiting list in this hospital. Our proposal does not aim to achieve zero wait, nor is it based on a single strategy. Our main conclusion is that the most efficient strategy for the waiting lists management involves the strengthening of health care networks’ integration actions. In the Unified Health System it can effectively enable the delivery of greater value in the assistance provided and can be done through local initiatives.

Cette thèse vise à comprendre et à apporter des solutions à la problématique de la baisse du nombre de praticiens ruraux qui touche les vétérinaires en France depuis une trentaine d'années. La population des étudiants vétérinaires est au centre de cette recherche afin d’analyser ce qui les conduit ou non à choisir la pratique rurale. En dépassant les critères socio-démographiques (féminisation, origine urbaine…), le travail se focalise sur les représentations sociales que les étudiants construisent de leur métier et de son environnement spatial tout au long du cursus de formation vétérinaire. Pour cela, l’approche méthodologique utilise des évocations hiérarchisées (n=116), une enquête à grande échelle (n=1508), et une méthodologie originale : des entretiens avec cartes mentales (n=72). Les résultats montrent que les étudiants font évoluer leurs représentations tout au long du parcours mais que de nombreux biais existent. Ceux-ci proviennent en partie du cursus d'enseignement. Ces biais génèrent alors des freins à l'installation en milieu rural qu'il faut surmonter. La seconde partie de la thèse traite donc de la construction et du test d’un dispositif pédagogique sur un échantillon d’étudiants (n=24) dans le cursus vétérinaire, le « jeu de territoire ». Celui-ci permet aux étudiants de mieux appréhender la diversité de la vie de vétérinaire en milieu rural et offre alors une première clé actionnable pour favoriser l’installation en pratique rurale. L’ensemble des résultats produits montrent ainsi que le cursus doit être mobilisé comme une transition, notamment psychosociale, vers le monde professionnel, permettant l’acquisition de nouveaux savoirs en lien avec le territoire d’activité, et dépassant le cadre académique traditionnel
This thesis aims to understand and provide solutions to the problem of the declining number of rural practitioners that has been affecting veterinarians in France for thirty years. The population of veterinary students is the focus of this research to analyze what led them or not to choose rural practice. To overcome socio-demographic criteria (feminization, urban origin ...), this work focuses on social representations that students build about their future work and its space environment during the curriculum. In this way, a methodological triangulation uses hierarchical evocations (n = 116), a large-scale survey (n = 1508), and an original methodology: interviews with mental maps (n = 72). The results show that students’ representations evolve throughout the course but many biases exist. These come in part from the teaching curriculum. These biases generate barriers to rural facility which may be overcome. The second part of the thesis therefore deals with the construction and the test of a pedagogical tool on a sample of students (n = 24) in the veterinary curriculum, the "territory game". It allows students to better understand the diversity of veterinary rural life and then offers a first operable key to encourage the installation in rural practice. All of these results show that the curriculum must be mobilized as a psychosocial transition, towards the professional world and must allow the acquisition of new knowledge related to the activity territories, beyond the traditional academic setting

Abstract Life is a game ― play it -quote from Bhagavad-Gita 18 chapter A “Game” is the important element which can relax busy person’s mind in our modern society. Not only is it entertaining, but also a way which can relieve men's pressure. However, different kinds of fictitious E-Games flood with our lives so much that can make people easily feel lost. Therefore, I want to apply the style and characteristics of a game which influence person's mind to mental product design by my study and artistic creation to search another emotional exit for human beings. I will use “Butterfly” and “Flower” to be my modeling elements for conveying the concept of a game because their shapes are disorderly, and they are colorful. By using highly polished metal and colorful OP patterns so that they will reflect each other and be active, various styles which transform to design, I seem to have my “Butterflies” play within my “Flowers”. I hope to initiate a kind of atmosphere, an illusive, fantastic, and sometimes real, sometimes unreal, “Illusion Zone” where people feel the same as when they play a game, it will relax their mind by playing it or dreaming it.

There are two purposes in this research. The aim is to evaluate the simulation results of a self-develop d virtual reality high altitude experience game - Survival of Desperate Adventure. And explore the emotional history and learning comfort zone among the game for middle-aged. Researcher collect participants’ information through emotional image, physiological signal tool, learning comfort zone questionnaire, task experience questionnaire, game satisfaction questionnaire, interview. And then analysis the difference between pre-test, post -test and delays measured to understand the change of emotional history and learning comfort zone for middle-aged. The result show that virtual reality high altitude experience game have a certain degree of stimulate effective and provide more interactive. Furthermore, the experience and reflection of virtual reality high altitude experience game helps to improve the motivation and decrease the stress of jump out the learning comfort zone for middle-aged.

The aim of this study was to examine whether the level of opposition, game phase and field zone influence whole team synchronization. Positional data from six friendly soccer matches against opponents of different level were collected using GPS units. Game phase and dominant field zone were further noted using observational video analysis. The whole team synchronization was assessed in each game using the cluster phase method. Results revealed that the opponent team level had a major impact on the degree of teams synchronization, while the influence of game phase and dominant field zone is very limited. The analyses of movement synchronization both in longitudinal and lateral displacement axes consistently revealed that competing against amateur opponents tend to decrease the degree of team synchrony. Differences between game-phase occurred only in games against 1st league teams. In overall, higher values of team synchronization were found in matches against opponents of similar higher level and in the defensive phases. These findings suggested that the selection of the opponent teams during pre-season friendly matches is a critical factor, even more since demarcated differences in team synchronization between game phases appeared only when competing against opponents of similar higher level.
Com este estudo pretendeu avaliar-se se o nível de oposição, a fase de jogo e o sector do campo influenciam os níveis de sincronização da equipa. Os dados posicionais de seis jogos amigáveis contra adversários de diferentes níveis foram capturados com a utilização de unidades de GPS. A fase de jogo e a zona dominante do campo foram registadas posteriormente através da análise observacional de vídeo. O grau de sincronização da equipa enquanto um todo foi calculado para cada jogo com recurso ao método cluster phase. Os resultados revelaram que o nível de oposição exerce uma influência clara no grau de sincronização das equipas enquanto que a influência do sector do campo e da fase de jogo é limitada. Diferenças entre a fase de jogo ocorreram apenas em jogos contra equipas da primeira liga. No geral, foram encontrados valores mais altos de sincronização colectiva em jogos frente a opositores de nível igualmente mais elevado e na fase de jogo defensiva. Estas descobertas sugeriram que a selecção das equipas adversárias para os jogos amigáveis durante a pré-época é um factor crítico, enaltecido pelo facto de os resultados terem demonstrado diferenças na sincronização colectiva entre fases de jogo somente frente a adversários de nível igualmente superior.

This study investigated the Co-opetition strategies of the logistics and tourism industries in Taiwan and the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone (WTSEZ) using game theory. First, we found that the two concerned parties developed a positive reciprocal relationship after suspending hostilities, even setting a milestone of peace and prosperity for both sides. The WTSEZ proposed in China’s “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” has become a trending research topic in every field of Taiwan’s academia. The issue has also received international attention and concern. Second, this study analyzed the circumstances and strategies of logistics and tourism in Taiwan and the WTSEZ and found that each party’s logistics and tourism industries possessed unique characteristics and advantages, with their strengths complementing each other. The westward expansion of Taiwan’s logistics and tourism industries to the WTSEZ is driven by natural resources, land costs, labor costs, and domestic market demand. Additionally, the WTSEZ logistics and tourism industries value and exploit Taiwan’s modernized industrial skills, superior management abilities, international market experience, exceptional human resources, advanced training systems, and extensive international connections. Finally, this study used game theory to identify the optimal competitive strategies to support cooperation between parties. The results are shown in the pay-off matrix of a static game. Regarding the static game competition, we know that the only diligent competitive strategies adopted by both sides was the Nash equilibrium; in a dynamic game with a grim trigger strategy in play, companies (logistics and tourism industries) have a greater desire to implement a mutually beneficial cooperative strategy. Therefore, to develop human capital for the logistics and tourism industries, we recommend that Taiwan and the WTSEZ should first collaborate in training the personnel required to expand the logistics and tourism industries. This step will have a progressive and direct effect on the westward expansion of the logistics and tourism industries of Taiwan or the WTSEZ.

Due to the high interdependence among countries and the spill-over effects of central bank’s intervention, the traditional exchange rate target zone model, proposed by Krugman (1991), cannot explain the co-existence of multilateral economic relationships reasonably. To resolve the problem this paper extends the multilateral exchange rate target zones model, constructed by Serrat (2000), by considering government’s expenditure policy and the intervention behavior of central bank which are two important factors in economic development. Regarding fundamentals as the process of the expected inflation rate, this study applies the optimal control and the game theory to derive the effects of government expenditures and central bank’s intervention on exchange rate target zones. The theoretical derivation shows that the key factor affecting the dynamic path of exchange rate is the choice of coordination with the third country. In addition, the change of cooperative partners, the incompleteness of central bank’s creditability, and the ambiguousness of governmental policy, may make exchange rate display a jump and nonlinear path straightforwardly. However, when the interdependence between central bank’s intervention and governmental policy exists, the possibility of unstable exchange rate target zones and economic system will increase, i.e., the honeymoon effect is controversial. In other words, the signal channel and the coordination channel of central bank’s intervention play an important role in stabilizing exchange rate volatility in multilateral exchange rate target zones model.

White rhinos in the Umfolozi Game Reserve (UGR) are managed with a 'Sink Management Policy' which utilises natural dispersal patterns of white rhinos from an area of high density (the core), to areas of low density (vacuum zones). This study was initiated to determine how white rhinos utilised the vacuum zones, as the management staff of the UGR felt that white rhinos were not dispersing into them but utilising them only as areas of trophic resources. Significantly different white rhino densities were established in the Makhamisa and Masinda vacuum zones by removing white rhinos from Masinda. Changes in the density of white rhinos were monitored and the age and sex compositions determined. No significant changes in the density of white rhino groups were recorded during the study, however, the density of individuals in Makhamisa increased significantly in the dry season, while the density in Masinda did not change. The reason for this increase could not be determined, however, the most likely explanation was that rhinos moved toward the Makhamisa study area in search of surface water which was present in the White Umfolozi River. During the dry season the water level in the Umfolozi River was low so the white rhinos where able to cross into the study area. However, owing to the above average rainfall, resources were not limited in either study area, and most likely in most of the reserve. Thus, it could not be determined why white rhinos would need to enter the Makhamisa study area. Changes in grass height, grass colour, and the availability of water in pans and streams were monitored throughout the study. The grassland community compositions of the two study areas were found not to be significantly different. The total utilisation of the different grassland communities by white rhinos during the study were determined for both study areas. White rhinos in the two study areas utilised the grassland communities in a similar pattern throughout the study. During the wet and dry seasons, white rhinos primarily foraged in the short grassland community (Panicum coloratum & Themeda-Urachloa), their staple grassland community, and were not observed to switch and start foraging in the tall grassland community (Themeda & Themeda-Panicum). their reserve community. White rhinos in both study areas were able to forage in their stable grassland community throughout the dry season because of the above average rainfall experienced during the study The results of the study suggest that white rhinos outside the study areas did not utilise the vacuum zones for trophic resources. However, as the study was conducted in a year with above average rainfall, these findings may not represent how white rhinos utilise the vacuum zones in years with average or below average rainfall.

Instead of physical capital and labor, intangible input, such as technical know-how, has become the basis of economic growth for the emerging of knowledge-based economies. Re-construction of high technology and traditional industries has been the major task for most countries. In the past, the government-led policy has been the major factor of Taiwan’s economic miracle. However, most industries have faced the challenge of upgrading technology in order to improre the out put capacity of the production environment. Through the application of the input-output analysis, this thesis suggests that as the quantitative limit of the industrial zone has been reached, emphasis should be placed on improring the quality of the production environment in industrial zones. This thesis employs game theory to analyze the competitiveness of the industrial zones. Both Nash and Stackelberg’s theories of equilibria and analyzed and compared to ascertain how firms in a particular industrial zone may maximize profitabi profitability while minimizing expenditure. The result shows that Stackelberg’s equilibrium value isn’t lower than Nash’s equilibrium value. Besides, as the competitiveness of industrial zones increases, Nash’s equilibrium value isn’t necessary higher than Stackelberg’s equilibrium value if the maximum production environment demand that the industrial zone provides to the firms is decided. By comparing the results from Nash’s and Stackelberg’s equilibrium, the firm’s production environment cost can be assessed. Through examining the supply and demand and environment cost, the equilibrium between the types of environment demand and environment cost in industrial zones can be obtained. The findings suggest that either the supply of environment cost, based on Nash’s or , based on Stackelberg’s will be the function of the probability of the environment demand in industrial zones. The findings of this thesis will establish a bench mark for other industrial zones to improve in quality in order to enhance their firms’ competitiveness.

Os agentes transmitidos por ixodídeos são a causa de doenças emergentes em animais de companhia, em alguns casos com carácter zoonótico, representando um desafio para o médico veterinário, pela grande variedade de sinais clínicos que poderão originar. A população silvestre ao abrigar uma elevada densidade de ixodídeos pode estar envolvida no ciclo de transmissão de alguns agentes patogénicos. Este facto é, particularmente, importante quando se assiste ao aumento descontrolado das populações silvestres, como se verifica, actualmente, com os javalis em Portugal. Os javalis estão descritos como hospedeiros de uma ampla variedade de espécies ixodológicas, contribuindo para a dispersão dos agentes zoonóticos que lhe estão associados, nomeadamente Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma platys, mas também a espécie zoonótica Anaplasma phagocytophilum. O presente estudo, procurou detectar evidência de infecção activa por estes agentes bacterianos, nomeadamente A. phagocytophilum, cuja transmissão poderá estar potenciada com o aumento da população de javalis no Parque Natural da Serra da Arrábida (PNSA). Assim foram considerados 21 javalis de três populações distintas, 36 animais de companhia (35 cães e um gato), com sinais clínicos, laboratoriais e/ou epidemiológicos compatíveis com doença associada a ixodídeos, atendidos no Hospital Veterinário da Arrábida, e 80 ixodídeos capturados na vegetação (N=61) ou a parasitar os animais (N=19). A extracção de ADN foi realizada em 155 amostras biológicas incluindo, 33 amostras sanguíneas de animais de companhia, 42 amostras de baço e fígado de javali e os 80 ixodídeos. Para a pesquisa de ADN bacteriano foi realizada uma PCR convencional genérica para Anaplasma/Ehrlichia spp. e PCR em tempo real específica para A. phagocytophilum. Em nenhuma das amostras foi possível identificar reacções positivas. É, contudo, de salientar que a limitação temporal e geográfica da amostragem, bem como, em alguns casos, a qualidade do ADN obtido, podem ter condicionado os resultados obtidos, não se podendo excluir a circulação do agente e, consequentemente, o risco de doença causada pelo mesmo. Esta dissertação permitiu abrir caminho para a realização de mais estudos de forma a conhecer melhor esta doença, bem como, os seus vectores/reservatórios, alertando para o seu papel na doença veterinária e humana.
Tick-borne agents transmitted by Ixodidae family members are the cause of emerging diseases in companion animals, in some cases with zoonotic potential, posing a challenge for the veterinarian due to the great variety of clinical signs that may arise from these pathologies. The wildlife by harboring a high density of ixodids may be involved in the transmission cycle of some pathogens. This is particularly important when wild animal populations are uncontrolled increasing as is currently the case of wild boars in Portugal. These animals are described as hosts of a wide variety of ixodid species contributing to the dispersion of associated zoonotic agents, namely Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma platys, but also the zoonotic species, Anaplasma phagocytophilum. The present study sought to detect evidence of active infection caused by these bacterial agents, namely A. phagocytophilum, whose transmission may be enhanced by the increase of wild boar population in the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park (PNSA). Twenty-one wild boars from three different population, 36 companion animals (35 dogs and one cat), with clinical, laboratorial and / or epidemiological signs compatible with ixodidal disease attended at Arrábida Veterinary Hospital and 80 ixodids captured in the vegetation (N = 61) or parasitizing the animals (N = 19) were included in this study. DNA extraction was performed on 155 biological samples including, 33 pet blood samples, 42 boar spleen and liver samples, and the 80 ixodids. A generic PCR for Anaplasma / Ehrlichia spp. and real-time PCR specific for A. phagocytophilum were performed although in none of the samples positive reactions were identify. It should be noted, however, that the temporal and geographical limitation of sampling, as well as in some cases the quality of the DNA obtained, may have conditioned the results obtained and thus the circulation of the agent cannot be excluded and, consequently, the risk of the associated disease. This dissertation was an introduction for further studies to better understand this agent, as well as its vectors / reservoirs, alerting to its role in veterinary and human diseases.

O professor de Educação Física escolar no Brasil não pode ignorar a marcante cultura do brincar de jogar futebol que, consequentemente, é levada para dentro das aulas de Educação Física, quando isso ocorre, torna-se um desafio para ele conciliar a paixão dos alunos e o processo ensino-aprendizado necessário, por isso, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo geral analisar como é desenvolvida a prática docente nas aulas de Educação Física em que o professor utiliza o futebol jogo/brincadeira e futebol jogo/esporte no 2º ciclo do ensino fundamental nas escolas municipais da zona urbana de Breves – Marajó – Pará. Questionando sobre como o professor desenvolve as atividades de futebol jogo/brincadeira e futebol jogo/esporte, afinal, essas atividades estão sendo sistematizadas ou o professor está permitindo somente o jogar pelo jogar bola?Especificamente, os objetivos foram verificar qual a abordagem mais utilizada pelos professores de Educação Física, se é futebol jogo/brincadeira ou futebol jogo/esporte, identificando quais os motivos que levam os professores a escolher tais atividades, e analisar como o professor ministra didaticamente essas atividades aos alunos. Os referenciais utilizados para a pesquisa foram João Batista Freire, Scaglia, Darido e Rangel, Tubino, Alarcão e Nóvoa, que serviram de base para as sustentações teóricas. O estudo é descritivo, quali-quantitativo. Na pesquisa de campo foram entrevistados 10 professores de Educação Física escolar do quadro efetivo da Secretaria Municipal de Educação de Breves/PA. Foi aplicado questionário fechado, juntamente com a técnica de entrevista semi-estruturada, registrada em áudio e transcrita nesta pesquisa. Os resultados mostraram que os professores utilizam, no 2º ciclo, predominantemente o futebol jogo/brincadeira, ora sistematizando-a pedagogicamente, ora deixando que o próprio aluno a conduza, tornando a atividade semelhante ao lazer em virtude de inúmeras dificuldades discutidas ao longo da pesquisa. Ao final, concluiu-se que a prática docente no trato com o futebol necessita estar voltada às constantes ressignificações e que para isso, há de se ter frequentes momentos de reflexão desta prática, especialmente para o ensino fundamental. Portanto, a importância desta pesquisa mostra-se na possibilidade de levantar novos questionamentos, reflexões e intervenções positivas na tentativa de contribuir para elevar o nível de qualidade do processo ensino-aprendizagem em Educação Física na cidade de Breves – Marajó – Pará – Brasil
The teacher of Physical Education in Brazil can’t ignore the remarkable culture of play to play football, therefore, it is brought into the physical education classes, when this occurs, it becomes a challenge for him to reconcile the passion of students and the teaching-learning process necessary, therefore, this study aimed to analyze how teaching practice is developed in physical education classes where the teacher uses football game/playfull and football game/sport on the 2nd elementary school cycle in municipal schools in the urban area of Breves - Marajó - Pará. Questioning about how the teacher develops activities the football game/playfull and game/sport, after all, these activities are being systematized or teacher is allowing only the play by play ball? Specifically, the objectives were to verify what approach most commonly used by physical education teachers, if football game/playfull or football game/sport, identifying the reasons why teachers choose such activities, and analyze how the teacher teaches didactically these activities to students. The references used for the research were John the Baptist Freire, Scaglia, Darido and Rangel, Tubino, Alarcão e Nóvoa, which formed the basis for the theoretical supports. The study is descriptive, qualitative and quantitative. In the field research were interviewed 10 teachers of Physical Education of the effective framework of the Municipal Department of Education Breves/ PA. Closed questionnaire was applied along with a semi-structured interview technique, recorded audio and transcribed this search. The results showed that teachers use in the 2nd cycle, predominantly the football game/playfull, sometimes systematizing it pedagogically, sometimes letting the students themselves to drive, making the leisure similar activity because of numerous difficulties discussed during the research . In the end, it was concluded that teaching practices in dealing with football needs to be geared to constant reinterpretation and for this, one has to have frequent moments of reflection of this practice, especially for primary education. Therefore, the importance of this research is shown in the possibility of raising new questions, ideas and positive interventions in an attempt to help to raise the quality level of the teaching-learning process in physical education in the city of Breves - Marajó - Pará - Brazil.
