Анотація:
In this paper, the human robotic leg which can be represented mathematically by single input-single output (SISO) nonlinear differential model with one degree of freedom, is analyzed and then a simple hybrid neural fuzzy controller is designed to improve the performance of this human robotic leg model. This controller consists from SISO fuzzy proportional derivative (FPD) controller with nine rules summing with single node neural integral derivative (NID) controller with nonlinear function. The Matlab simulation results for nonlinear robotic leg model with the suggested controller showed that the efficiency of this controller when compared with the results of the leg model that is controlled by PI+2D, PD+NID, and FPD-ID controllers.

This paper presents an implementation of conventional PID (CPID) controller using Ziegler-Nichols rules and fuzzy PD (FPD) controller for position servo motor control based on Lab View (Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench Environment) through Data Acquisition (DAQ) Device PCI- 6521 of National Instrument's and Data Acquisition Accessory Board Model (CB-68LP).CPID controller is perhaps the most well-known and most widely used in industrial applications. However, it has been known that CPID controller generally don’t work well for non-linear systems, higher order and time-delayed linear system and particularly complex and vague system. To overcome these difficulties, this paper proposes to use the FPD controller for a servo motor system instead of CPID. The parameters of servo motor used are completely unknown. The FPD structure has two-input single-output and fairly similar characteristic to its conventional counterpart and provides good performance. Simple rules base are used for FPD (nine rules only). Performance evaluation was carried out via a comparison study for the proposed control scheme and other existing control scheme, such as CPID controller. The critical point for this experiment on position system is a steady state error and settling time. The performance showing that the FPD has less settling time and zero steady state error over its CPID. The algorithms of FPD and CPID controllers are implemented using PID, Fuzzy Logic and simulation toolkits of the Lab View environment.

A mathematical model of controlling the DC motor has been applied in this paper. There are many and different types of controllers have been used with purpose of analyzing and evaluating the performance of the of DC motor which are, Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC), Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR), Fuzzy Proportional Derivative (FPD) ,Proportional Integral Derivative (PID), Fuzzy Proportional Derivative with integral (FPD plus I) , and Fuzzy Proportional Integral (FPI) with membership functions of 3*3, 5*5, and 7*7 rule bases. The results show that the (FLC) controller with 5*5 rule base provides the best results among all the other controllers to design the DC motor controller.

Purpose The paper has proposed to implement gray wolf optimization (GWO)-based filter-type proportional derivative with (FPD) plus (1+ proportional integral) multistage controller in a three-area integrated source-type interlinked power network for achieving automatic generation control. Design/methodology/approach For analysis, a three area interconnected power system of which each area comprises three different generating units where thermal and hydro system as common. Micro sources like wind generator, diesel generator and gas unit are integrated with area1, area2 and area3 respectively. For realization of system nonlinearity some physical constraints like generation rate constraint, governor dead band and boiler dynamics are effected in the system. Findings The supremacy of multistage controller structure over simple proportional integral (PI), proportional integral, derivative (PID) and GWO technique over genetic algorithm, differential evolution techniques has been demonstrated. A comparison is made on performances of different controllers and sensitivity analysis on settling times, overshoots and undershoots of different dynamic responses of system as well as integral based error criteria subsequent a step load perturbation (SLP). Finally, sensitive analysis has been analyzed by varying size of SLP and network parameters in range ±50 per cent from its nominal value. Originality/value Design and implementation of a robust FPD plus (1 + PI) controller for AGC of nonlinear power system. The gains of the proposed controller are optimized by the application of GWO algorithm. An investigation has been done on the dynamic performances of the suggested system by conducting a comparative analysis with conventional PID controller tuned by various optimization techniques to verify its supremacy. Establishment of the robustness and sensitiveness of the controller by varying the size and position of the SLP, varying the loading of the system randomly and varying the time constants of the system.

The demand for uninterruptible electricity supply is increasing, and the power engineering sector has started researching alternative solutions. Distributed generation (DG) dissemination into the electric grid to cope with the accelerating demand for electricity is taken into consideration. However, its integration with the traditional grid is a key task as sudden changes in load and their fickle nature cause the frequency to deviate from its adjusted range and affect the grid’s reliability. Moreover, the increased use of DG will significantly impact power system frequency response, posing a new challenge to the traditional power system frequency framework. Therefore, maintaining the frequency within the nominal range can improve its reliability. This deviation should be removed within a few seconds to keep the system’s frequency stable so that supply and demand are balanced. In a traditional grid system, the controllers installed at the generation side help to control the system’s frequency. These generators have capital installation costs that are not desirable for system operators. Therefore, this article proposed a comprehensive control framework to enable high penetration of DG while still providing adequate frequency response. This is accomplished by investigating a grasshopper optimization algorithm-based (GOA) fuzzy PD-PI controller (FPD-PI) for analyzing frequency control and optimizing the FPD-PI controller gains to minimize the frequency fluctuations. In this paper, interconnected hybrid power systems (HPS) are considered. In this study, the response of a system is analyzed, and the results validate that the oscillations in frequency are substantially reduced by the proposed controller. Moreover, our model is the best option for controlling frequency instead of conventional controllers, as it is efficient and fast to regulate frequency by switching the preferred loads on or off.

The design criteria and dynamic analysis of SCARA substrate transfer robot for cluster tools have been investigated in this paper. The design criteria for SCARA robot to meet the application of semiconductor and flat panel display processing have been verified. The dynamic equations of decomposed modules of SCARA substrate transfer robot, such as arm module, friction module, servomotor module, harmonic drive module and belt module are formulated by Lagrange’s method respectively. Then, the dynamic equations are all built and simulated with MATLAB software. In addition, the elasticity characteristics of belt and harmonic drive are further discussed in this paper. In the aspect of control, the PID controller and force control method are both used to suppress the vibration and improve the transient response.

This paper presents the doubly fed induction motor (DFIM) speed control using adaptive fuzzy logic PI (AFLPI) controller to give better dynamic performances. Before the advent of modern technology, integral proportional based current controller is usually used due to its simplicity. But, the performance of closed-loop control is largely influenced by this type of speed and torque controllers used, as long as the PI controllers suffer from tuning problem. To overcome the problem, a new technique AFLPI based speed controller for direct field oriented control fed DFIM to get fast speed response and to minimize the torque ripple. The application of this type of control is very satisfactory to replace the conventional PI controller and, even the fuzzy logic PI (FLPI) controller. The performance of the field oriented controlled DFIM drive has simulated at different operating conditions using the AFLPI controller and the obtained results are compared with FLPI controller and conventional PI controller. Accordingly, an improvement in dynamic and robustness is clearly appears in AFLPI controller simulation results compared to the others aforementioned controllers. Simulation Results are presented for the three techniques using Matlab/Simulink to prove the dynamic performances and robustness.

A robustification method of primary two degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) controllers is proposed in this paper to control the wind turbine system equipped with a doubly-fed induction generator DFIG. The proposed robustification method should follow the following three step-procedures. First, the primary 2-DOF controller is designed through the initial form of the multivariable generalized predictive control MGPC law to ensure a good tracking dynamic of reference trajectories. Second, the robust [Formula: see text] controller is independently designed for the previous system to ensure good robustness properties of the closed-loop system against model uncertainties, neglecting dynamics and sensor noises. Finally, both above mentioned controllers are combined to design the robustified 2-DOF-MGPC controller using Youla parameterization method. Therefore, the obtained controller conserves the same good tracking dynamic that is provided by the primary 2-DOF-MGPC controller. It ensures the same good robustness properties which are produced by the robust [Formula: see text] controller. A wind turbine system equipped with a DFIG is controlled by the robustified 2-DOF-MGPC controller. Its dynamic behaviour is modelled by an unstructured-output multiplicative uncertainty plant. The controller performances are valid by comparison with those given through both controllers, which are primary 2-DOF-MGPC and robust [Formula: see text] controllers in time and frequency domains.

ABSTRACT In this study, a field evaluation of the performance of an irrigation controller mechanically actuated by soil-water tension (SWT) was performed. The controller employs a tensiometer used as a sensor of SWT to directly control a mechanically actuated hydraulic valve. Six controllers were installed in an orchard to control the irrigation for six rows of plants over 64 days. Each controller controlled the irrigation of one lateral drip line. The drip irrigation system was gravity-fed from a water source placed 7 m above the soil surface. The SWT and the pressure in each lateral line were measured to evaluate the performance of the controllers. All the controllers tested in the field autonomously initiated and terminated the irrigation during the evaluation. Irrigation events were initiated when values close to the set soil-tension values were reached and were terminated at lower soil-tension values. As the SWT in the root zone was maintained close to the setup threshold plus 20% tolerance for at least 90% of the evaluation period, the performance of the controllers was considered satisfactory. The proposed controller was shown to be functional and was operated effectively for an SWT range of up to 30 kPa, which is commonly encountered under high-frequency irrigation conditions.

Typical controllers for fed-batch cultivations are based on the estimation and control of the specific growth rate in real time. Biocalorimetry allows one to measure a heat signal proportional to the substrate consumed by cells. The derivative of this heat signal is usually used to evaluate the specific growth rate, introducing noise to the resulting estimate. To avoid this, this study investigated a novel controller based directly on the heat signal. Time trajectories of the heat signal setpoint were modelled for different specific growth rates, and the controller was set to follow this dynamic setpoint. The developed controller successfully followed the setpoint during aerobic cultivations of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, preventing the Crabtree effect by maintaining low glucose concentrations. With this new method, fed-batch cultivations of S. cerevisiae could be reliably controlled at specific growth rates between 0.075 h−1 and 0.20 h−1, with average root mean square errors of 15 ± 3%.

Recently, the Gravitational-Search Algorithm (GSA) has been presented as a promising physics-inspired stochastic global optimization technique. It takes its derivation and features from laws of gravitation. This paper applies the GSA to design optimal controllers of a nonlinear system consisting of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) driven by a wind turbine. Both the active and the reactive power are controlled and processed through a back-to-back converter. The active power control loop consists of two cascaded proportional integral (PI) controllers. Another PI controller is used to set the q-component of the rotor voltage by compensating the generated reactive power. The GSA is used to simultaneously tune the parameters of the three PI controllers. A time-weighted absolute error (ITAE) is used in the objective function to stabilize the system and increase its damping when subjected to different disturbances. Simulation results will demonstrate that the optimal GSA-based coordinated controllers can efficiently damp system oscillations under severe disturbances. Moreover, simulation results will show that the designed optimal controllers obtained using the GSA perform better than the optimal controllers obtained using two commonly used global optimization techniques, which are the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO).

In this paper, a trajectory tracking control algorithm is proposed based on the fractional-order PD (FOPD) controller for a Wheeled Mobile Robot (WMR). Firstly, an improved flat phase property is put forward as a robust controller tuning specification. This specification is capable of guaranteeing the flatness of the phase curve in a frequency interval, so the controlled system robustness can be improved. Then, the stabilization process is discussed with respect to the parameters of the FOPD controller through a visualized 3-dimensional surface, so both the stability and robustness of the controlled system can be guaranteed under the proposed controller. Furthermore, the implementation of the proposed robust FOPD controller is presented, which makes the control algorithm easy to be realized. At last, the effectiveness of the proposed trajectory tracking control algorithm is verified by the simulation and experiment results.

This paper proposes a robust decoupling power algorithm based on a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) for variable speed wind-turbine (WT). The DFIG rotor circuit is fed by the direct matrix converter (DMC), which presents several features such as no need to the dc-bus voltage, sinusoidal supply, rotor side waveforms, bidirectional power flow, and adjustable input power factor. The 18 bidirectional switches are controlled using the Venturini modulation technique. On the other hand, the DFIG stator circuit is connected directly to the grid. The nonlinear control strategy based on feedback linearization is applied to control the stator power (Ps and Qs) independently using the rotor quadrature and direct currents (irq and ird), which present the images of the previous stator powers. Some limitations appear in the power algorithm using the conventional pi controller, especially in power tracking, error, and quality. In this context, the model reference adaptive controller (MRAC) presents an alternative solution, a robust and efficient controller proposed instead of the pi controllers to control stator powers. Finally, the simulation results confirm that the proposed algorithm could work under hard conditions and demonstrate that the wind energy conversion system (WECS) provides enhanced dynamic responses in transient and steady states and good power quality delivered to the grid.

The concept of newer energy storage and power conditioning using suitable controllers in a solar photovoltaic fed Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) is presented in this work. The power from a solar photovoltaic arrangement is harvested using a Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulated (SPWM) DC-DC converter to provide a controlled, efficient, and regulated output to drive the FESS. The FESS is designed with the BLDC motor as prime mover that drives a flywheel of cylindrical mass of suitable material and radius. The alternator connected in the same shaft of the prime mover and flywheel, powers an electrical load of 1kW. The dynamic stability of the system is taken care by the flywheel, while reliability is ensured using a well-designed controller unit. The solar PV arrangement with its controller was simulated using MATLAB, the flywheel stress was found using ANSYS. The entire FESS was simulated and based on the simulation results. A working model was fabricated, installed, and tested for the required operation. Test results were compared. Graphical representations are given to substantiate the working of the flywheel energy storage system.

<p>The intention of this paper is to identify a suitable controller for closed loop multi converter system for multiple input sources and to improve time response of high-gain-step up-converter. Closed-loop Multi Converter System (MCS) is utilized to regulate load-voltage. This effort recommends suitable-controller for closed-two loop-controlled-SEPIC-REBOOST Converter fed DC motor. The estimation of the yield in open-two loop and closed- two-loop-circuit has been done using MATLAB or Simulink. Closed-two loop-control of Multi Converter System with Propotional+Integral (PI)- Propotional+Integral (PI) and Proportional+Resonant (PR) - Proportional+Resonant (PR) Controllers are investigated and their responses are evaluated in conditions of rise time, peak time, settling time and steady state error. It is seen that current-mode PR-PR controlled MCS gives better time domain response in terms of motor speed. A Prototype of MCS has been fabricated in the laboratory and the experimental-results are authenticated with the simulation-results.</p>

The depletion in the fossil fuel and increase in global warming has shifted the focus of researchers to green alternative energy. Wind power electrical generation is one such alternative where the kinetic energy of wind power is harnessed to generate green electrical power. India, being the fourth largest wind power generator has attracted numerous researchers towards the improvement of wind energy conversion system. This paper also presents improved controller techniques for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind turbine coupled with Cascaded Quadratic Boost Converter (QBC) and Space Vector Modulation (SVM) based inverter. The digital simulation and execution of PMSG based wind turbine a long with QB Converter and SVM Inverter in a closed loop is presented. The closed loop is realized using Proportional Integral (PI) and Fractional Order Proportional Integral (FOPI) controllers. Initially, the AC power from PMSG wind turbine is converted to DC using bridge rectifier. The DC output from the rectifier is then boosted to the required level using quadratic boost converter. The output from QB converter is then fed to the SVM inverter. The closed loop investigations are carried with PI and FOPI controllers. The simulation results of both PI and FOPI controlled QBC are compared. The outcome of FOPI controller represents that the steady state error and settling time are reduced when compared to PI-controlled closed loop quadratic boost converter.

This work presents, a process to compute the required size of the<br />stand-alone solar photovoltaic generator based water pumping system<br />for an existing area. In addition solar photovoltaic generator is<br />connecting voltage source inverter fed vector controlled induction<br />motor-pump system. Perturb and observe are used for harvesting<br />maximum power of PV generator in between buck-boost DC converter<br />and inverter system. In this paper system result is validated by fuzzy<br />logic system and compare with variable frequency drives based PI<br />controllers, driving motor-pump system. The operational performance<br />at 60 m head, VFD based controllers in terms overshoot and setting time<br />and also analysis performance of motor-pump set under different<br />weather conditions. By assessment of system we find that speed and<br />torque variation, overshoot and settling time is more with PI controller,<br />Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) performance have dominance to VFD<br />based PI controller.</p>

This paper presents an optimal design for the inner current-control loop of the continuous current conduction mode (CCM) power factor correction (PFC) stage, which can be used as the front stage of the two-stage AC/DC telecom power supply. The conventional single-phase CCM-PFC boost converter is implemented with proportional–integral (PI) controllers in both the voltage and current-control loops to regulate the output DC voltage to the specified value and to ensure the input current follows the input voltage, which offers a converter with a high-power factor (PF) and low current total harmonic distortion (THD). However, due to the slow dynamic response of the PI controller at the zero-crossing point of the input supply current, the input current cannot fully follow the input voltage, which leads to high THD. In this paper, we investigate a digitally controlled PFC converter with an optimally designed inner current-control loop using a doubly-fed control loops integral-proportional (IP) controller to reduce the THD and to offer an input current with a unity PF. For the economic design of a digitally controlled PFC converter, two isolated AC and DC voltage sensors are designed for interfacing with the microcontroller unit (MCU). PSIM software as well as experimental prototype was used to test the converter performance using the proposed designed current controllers and isolated voltage sensors. We achieved a high-power-density, digitally controlled, telecom PFC stage with a power factor more than 99% and THD of about 5.50%.

The article presents the design and control of the adaptive neuro fuzzy Inference system (ANFIS) for the wind-driven permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) in the grid connected system. The rectifier and inverter are connected with the PMSG output and the grid for maintaining the voltage at the grid under variable wind operations. Such interconnections have many challenges, like high harmonics at the output and an improper voltage profile. The harmonics are measured in terms of total harmonic distortion (THD). Performance parameters like peak overshoot and settling time of DC link voltage and rotor speed have been measured. The control of the rectifier and inverter has been assessed with the ANFIS and PID controllers. A closed strategic mechanism has been developed for the ANFIS and PID controllers for improving the performance parameters and harmonics.. Finally, it is observed that the peak overshoot (%) and settling time (sec) of the DC link voltage with ANFIS are 5.2% and 2.9 sec, which are found to be less in comparison to the PID controller with the values of 6.1% and 3.8 sec and other existing methods. Similarly, the settling time (sec) of rotor speed with ANFIS is 1.1 sec, which is less than the settling time (2.6 sec) of the PID controller. Another advantage of ANFIS is the reduction of THD (%) of 5.1% with respect to THD (%) of PID controllers of 6.2% and other existing methods. The reduced THD shows the improved version of the voltage profile.

Artificial neural network–based power controllers are trained using back propagation algorithm for controlling the active and reactive power of a wind-driven double fed induction generator under varying wind speed conditions and fault conditions. Vector control scheme is used for control of the double fed induction generator. Here stator flux–oriented vector control scheme is implemented for the rotor side converter and grid voltage vector scheme is used for control of grid side converter using tuned proportional–integral active and reactive power controllers, which is later replaced by artificial neural network–based controllers. The artificial neural network controllers are trained using the data obtained from simulation of conventional proportional–integral controllers under varying operating conditions. The intelligent controller makes the generated stator active power to track the reference active power more precisely at specified power factor in both sub-synchronous and super-synchronous modes of operations. Simulation results reveal that the neural network–based controller significantly improves the performance of variable speed wind power generating double fed induction generator under various conditions.

In recent years, power quality has become almost as important in the renewable energy sector. Much of today's research is focused on resolving power quality issues. These issues are related to a voltage (sags, swells, distortions, and imbalances), system response speed, harmonics, ripples, and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). Many researchers have recently been working on various controllers to address power quality issues. These articles primarily address power quality issues that arise as a result of system response time, harmonics, and torque ripples. This study will be used to improve the performance of a photovoltaic (PV) fed multilevel inverter. In the field of renewable energy systems, controllers have played a critical role. Proportional (P), Proportional-Integral (PI), and Proportional Integral Derivative (PID), Fractional Order PID (FOPID), and Integral Order PID (IOPID) controllers are used in renewable energy systems to improve power quality. In this study, the response of the PI controller will be measured, analyzed, and compared to the response of the PI hysteresis controller. Existing methods make use of a photovoltaic-fed multilevel inverter, a boost converter, a multilevel inverter, and a proportional-integral (PI) controller. As a load, a three-phase induction motor is used. A PI hysteresis controller is used in place of a traditional PI controller in the proposed system. For the PI Controller, the Experimental Hardware prototype model is designed and validated. Simulation designs for existing and proposed systems are carried out using MATLAB Simulink, and the results are noted and verified. Wind power is one of the most efficient, reliable, and affordable renewable energy sources. The Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is the most commonly used machine in wind power systems due to its small size power converter, reduced cost and losses, better quality, and the ability for independent power control. This research work deals with the power control of this machine by modeling and designing a suitable controller. Vector control is used to control the stator and grid active and reactive powers along with the proportional integral (PI) controller, fuzzy logic controller (FLC), and PI-fuzzy controllers. Modeling and simulation of the system are done using MATLAB Simulink, and the behavior of the machine with each controller is examined under variable wind speeds. Comparative analysis based on reference power tracking, stability, and grid code requirement fulfillment has been conducted. The obtained results show that among the three controllers, the PI-fuzzy controller meets the required specification with better performance, small oscillation, minimum overshoot, better reference tracking ability, and creating a stable and secure system by fulfilling grid code requirements. This study can be important to further insight into DFIG-based wind turbine systems.

The results are presented for PI &amp; FOPID controlled ILBCDCM systems. The comparison of response is done in terms of settling time and steady state error in speed of ILBCDCM. The results indicate that FOPID controlled ILBCDCM gives better response than PI controlled ILBCDCM system.

Purpose. This article proposes a new control strategy for KY (DC-DC voltage step up) converter. The proposed hybrid energy system fed KY converter is utilized along with adaptive neuro fuzzy interface system controller. Renewable energy sources have recently acquired immense significance as a result of rising demand for electricity, rapid fossil fuel exhaustion and the threat of global warming. However, due to their inherent intermittency, these sources offer low system reliability. So, a hybrid energy system that encompasses wind/photovoltaic/battery is implemented in order to obtain a stable and reliable microgrid. Both solar and wind energy is easily accessible with huge untapped potential and together they account for more than 60 % of yearly net new electricity generation capacity additions around the world. Novelty. A KY converter is adopted here for enhancing the output of the photovoltaic system and its operation is controlled with the help of a cascaded an adaptive neuro fuzzy interface system controller. Originality. Increase of the overall system stability and reliability using hybrid energy system fed KY converter is utilized along with adaptive neuro fuzzy interface system controller. Practical value. A proportional integral controller is used in the doubly fed induction generator based wind energy conversion system for controlling the operation of the pulse width modulation rectifier in order to deliver a controlled DC output voltage. A battery energy storage system, which uses a battery converter to be connected to the DC link, stores the excess power generated from the renewable energy sources. Based on the battery’s state of charge, its charging and discharging operation is controlled using a proportional integral controller. The controlled DC link voltage is fed to the three phase voltage source inverter for effective DC to AC voltage conversion. The inverter is connected to the three phase grid via an LC filter for effective harmonics mitigation. A proportional integral controller is used for achieving effective grid voltage synchronization. Results. The proposed model is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink, and from the obtained outcomes, it is noted that the cascaded adaptive neuro fuzzy interface system controller assisted KY converter is capable of maintaining the stable operation of the microgrid with an excellent efficiency of 93 %.

The paper presents a novel GA/PSO self regulating diesel driven AC induction motor controlled drive system using the common AC-DC-AC bus interface for industrial applications and electric vehicle EV-locomotion. The proposed control scheme utilizes the dual regulation multi loop error driven controller using the novel modified proportional plus integral plus derivative PID structure with the added error rate compensating auxiliary loop. The EV-drive is fed from the AC-DC-AC interface of a six-pulse controlled rectifier –DC link and six-pulse voltage source inverter VSI using a coordinated dual action control scheme for firing angle control. The diesel engine is controlled to ensure dynamic of power demand with dynamic voltage and current tracking. A dynamic error driven control scheme is proposed to regulate the motor current to limit any inrush currents and overloading conditions, in addition to motor speed dynamic reference tracking. The Proposed tri loop dynamic error driven self regulated-tuned controllers are also utilized to ensure dynamic energy efficiency, control loop decoupling, drive stability and the unified system efficient energy utilization while maintaining accurate speed reference tracking. The paperpresents soft-computing application of both Multi Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) and Genetic search MOGA optimization and search techniques for dynamic online gain-tuning to optimally adjust the settings of the proposed controllers.

This paper presents a sensorless control scheme for the stand-alone brushless doubly fed induction generator (BDFIG) feeding nonlinear loads. The fundamental and harmonic components of the distorted power winding (PW) voltage caused by the nonlinear loads are extracted and controlled separately. A rotor speed observer is employed to estimate the speed based on the PW voltage and control winding (CW) current without the need of any other machine parameters except for the number of pole pairs. Since the d- and q-axis references of the CW current from the PW voltage control loop contain both dc and ac components, which cannot be tracked easily by conventional PI controllers, a CW predictive current controller is designed to regulate the CW current. Finally, the performance of the proposed control scheme is verified by comprehensive experiments on a 35-kVA prototype BDFIG.

In this paper, a novel multi-verse optimized fuzzy-PID (proportional–integral–derivative) controller with derivative filter (fuzzy-PIDF) is proposed for load frequency control of a two-area multi-source power system, with each area consisting of a reheat thermal and a hydro unit. The superiority of the Multi-Verse Optimizer algorithm is demonstrated against some recently published modern heuristic optimization techniques. For comparative analysis of the proposed control scheme, the conventional integral, proportional–integral, and PIDF controllers are also implemented. The effect of the thyristor-controlled phase shifter, superconducting magnetic energy storage, and doubly fed induction generators, considered individually and in various combinations, is investigated. Further, with an integral controller optimized using Multi-Verse Optimizer, the value of the integral of time multiplied absolute error, one of the performance indicators, is reduced by 85.61%, 83.91%, 70.42%, 67.69%, and 73.15% compared with optimization of the integral controller using Ant Lion Optimizer, Grey Wolf Optimizer, Differential Evolution, Bacterial Foraging, and Particle Swarm Optimization, respectively. Also, to quote a representative case, with Multi-Verse Optimizer, the settling times in respect of frequency deviations of area-1, area-2, and tie-line power are improved by 94.36%, 98.28%, and 95.44%, respectively, as compared with the results obtained using Ant Lion Optimizer. Further, robustness of the proposed control scheme is also investigated against variation of system parameters within ±10% besides random step load disturbances. Of all the controllers implemented here, the proposed optimized fuzzy-PIDF controller exhibits the best performance. Modeling and simulations were carried out using MATLAB/Simulink.

Interval type-2 fuzzy logic controller (IT2FLC) method for controlling the speed with a direct stator flux orientation control of doubly fed induction motor (DFIM) is proposed. The fuzzy controllers have demonstrated their effectiveness in the control of nonlinear systems, and in many cases it is proved that their robustness and performance are less sensitive to parameters variation over conventional controllers. The synthesis of stabilizing control laws design based on IT2FLC is developed. A comparative analysis between type-1 fuzzy logic controller (T1FLC) and IT2FLC of the DFIM is shown. Simulation results show the feasibility and the effectiveness of the suggested method to the control of the DFIM under different operating conditions such as load torque and in the presence of parameters variation.

Parameter adjustment is usually applied for designing the proportional-integral-differential (PID) controllers. However, the ability to improve control performance by adjusting parameters is limited. Hence, with the goal to achieve ideal closed-loop response, this paper takes advantage of a structural optimization method for modifying the controller model. A symbolic adaptation algorithm for fractional order PID (FOPID) controller is employed to obtain precise nonlinear controller model. Firstly, a modeling comparison for nonlinear duffing system is carried out to highlight the efficiency of the symbolic adaptation algorithm. The case study indicates the proposed algorithm can establish compact dynamic models by amending the shortcomings of symbolic regression. Secondly, the proposed controller is restructured with the linear FOPID controller and its nonlinearity is increased by adjusting controllers’ components in symbolic form. The proposed controllers are simulated in an unstable second-order system, a time-delay system and a nonlinear VanderPol system. Compared with the IOPID and the FOPID controller, the symbolic adaptation algorithm improves the structural flexibility of these linear controllers. Meanwhile, the system response can better approximate the desired response and the structural integrity of the nonlinear controller model is guaranteed simultaneously. Finally, the nonlinear FOPD controllers for trajectory tracking experiments are carried out on a rotary inverted pendulum control system.

Magnetic Levitation System (MLS) is one of the benchmark laboratories models for designing and testing feedback control systems in the presence of the parametric uncertainties and disturbances effect. Therefore, the MLS can be regarded as a tool to study and verify a certain robust controller design. In this paper, two types of powerful control schemes are presented to control the MLS. The first controller is a robust PI-PD controller, while the other is a robust fractional order FOPI-FOPD controller which provides two extra degrees of freedom to the system. In both controller design procedures, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is used to find the best values of controller parameters subject to the time-domain objective function and H∞ constraints. All modeling processes including parameterization, optimization, and validation of the controllers are performed using MATLAB. The simulation results show that the MLS with robust FOPI-FOPD is faster and more stable than the MLS with robust classical PI-PD. Also, the proposed FOPI-FOPD controller gives far superior results than the PI-PD controller for disturbance rejection.

This work deals with the Power Factor Corrected Single-Ended Primary Inductor Converter (PFC-SEPIC) based voltage fed closed loop full bridge series resonant induction heating system for household induction heating applications. The output voltage of the front end PFC-SEPIC converter fed series resonant inverter governs the controllers, which may be PI controller or Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). The analysis and comparison of time responses are presented in this paper. The PFC-SEPIC converter is used to improve the output power and the THD of source side current are compared for PI and FLC controllers. PFC-SEPIC converter maintains improved current and voltage at unity power factor through the input mains. The SEPIC converter based Voltage Fed Full Bridge Series Resonant Inverter (VFFBSRI) converts the voltage at a frequency of 10 kHz to a level suitable for household induction heating. A 1 kW SEPIC converter based VFFBSRI with RLC load is designed and simulated using MATLAB/ Simulink and hardware is fabricated.

A new control method for a grid-connected doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is proposed in this paper, which is robust against parametric uncertainty and measurement noise. In general, the DFIG controllers can be divided into two main groups: the rotor side converter (RSC) and the grid side converter (GSC) controllers. The parameters of a DFIG may deviate from their rated values due to the operating conditions. For this parametric uncertainty, a robust H∞ vector control (VC) is employed using the complex sensitivity approach. The design of the RSC controller has been carried out using the vector control strategy, and instead of proportional-integral (PI) controllers, a designed robust controller is used. One of the steps in vector control is the extraction of the measured currents to be used in the control equations. If the currents are polluted with noise, the system control will be impaired. Thus, using a Kalman filter is suggested to solve this problem. The effectiveness of the proposed method is then investigated using extensive simulations under various conditions. The obtained results confirm the efficient performance and robustness of the presented controller with model and measurement uncertainties.

The application of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is expanding rapidly, which drives the urgent need of its autonomy improvement. Motion control system is one of the keys to improve the control and decision-making ability of AUVs. In this paper, a saturation based nonlinear fractional-order PD (FOPD) controller is proposed for AUV motion control. The proposed controller is can achieve better dynamic performance as well as robustness compared with traditional PID type controller. It also has the advantages of simple structure, easy adjustment and easy implementation. The stability of the AUV motion control system with the proposed controller is analyzed through Lyapunov method. Moreover, the controlled performance can also be adjusted to satisfy different control requirements. The outperformed dynamic control performance of AUV yaw and depth systems with the proposed controller is shown by the set-point regulation and trajectory tracking simulation examples.

Recent developments in converters have given pathway to high-gain-step up converter having low output voltage ripple. High-gain-step up converters can be found between Photovoltaic Voltage (PV) and Direct-Current (D-C) loads. The intention of this work is to identify multi converter system for multiple input sources and to improve time response of high-gain-step up-converter. Closed-loop Multi-Converter System (MCS) is utilized to regulate load voltage. This effort recommends suitable-controller for “closed-loop-controlled-SEPIC-REBOOST Converter fed DC motor”. The estimation of the yield in ‘open-loop’&‘closed- loop-circuit’ has been done using MATLAB or Simulink. Closed-loop-control of MCS with PI and FOPID-Controllers are investigated and their responses are evaluated in conditions of rise time, peak time, settling time and steady state error. It is seen that FOPID controlled MCS gives better time domain response in terms of motor speed. A ‘Prototype of MCS’ has been fabricated in the laboratory& the ‘experimental-results’ are authenticated with the simulation-results.

An adaptive control system for the set-point control and disturbance rejection of biotechnological-process parameters is presented. The gain scheduling of PID (PI) controller parameters is based on only controller input/output signals and does not require additional measurement of process variables for controller-parameter adaptation. Realization of the proposed system does not depend on the instrumentation-level of the bioreactor and is, therefore, attractive for practical application. A simple gain-scheduling algorithm is developed, using tendency models of the controlled process. Dissolved oxygen concentration was controlled using the developed control system. The biotechnological process was simulated in fed-batch operating mode, under extreme operating conditions (the oxygen uptake-rate’s rapidly and widely varying, feeding and aeration rate disturbances). In the simulation experiments, the gain-scheduled controller demonstrated robust behavior and outperformed the compared conventional PI controller with fixed parameters.

This paper focuses on the development of intelligent controllers for use in a process of enzyme recovery from pineapple rind. The proteolytic enzyme bromelain (EC 3.4.22.4) is precipitated with alcohol at low temperature in a fed-batch jacketed tank. Temperature control is crucial to avoid irreversible protein denaturation. Fuzzy or neural controllers offer a way of implementing solutions that cover dynamic and nonlinear processes. The design methodology and a comparative study on the performance of fuzzy-PI, neurofuzzy, and neural network intelligent controllers are presented. To tune the fuzzy PI Mamdani controller, various universes of discourse, rule bases, and membership function support sets were tested. A neurofuzzy inference system (ANFIS), based on Takagi-Sugeno rules, and a model predictive controller, based on neural modeling, were developed and tested as well. Using a Fieldbus network architecture, a coolant variable speed pump was driven by the controllers. The experimental results show the effectiveness of fuzzy controllers in comparison to the neural predictive control. The fuzzy PI controller exhibited a reduced error parameter (ITAE), lower power consumption, and better recovery of enzyme activity.

In this paper, speed control of solar powered single phase hybrid multilevel inverter fed induction motor using fuzzy proportional integral controller is proposed. The proposed control system has been developed using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Performance of the proposed controller is tested in reference speed conditions with step change. The parameter analyzed for the proposed controller is steady-state error and settling time. This is compared with the proportional integral controller. Proposed speed controller is tested with two speed region such as low speed region and high speed region. In low speed region, speed command is varied from 40, 60, and 80 rad/s with 0.6 s step time. In high speed region, speed command is varied from 100, 120, and 140 rad/s with 0.6 s step time. Corresponding, performance parameters are measured and analyzed for both regions with proposed controller and proportional integral controller. From the test results, fuzzy proportional integral speed controlled hybrid multilevel inverter fed induction motor outperforms than proportional integral controller. Finally, the results are verified experimentally.

This paper presents direct power control (DPC) strategies using the super-twisting sliding mode control (STSMC) applied to active and reactive power control of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) supplied by a space vector modulation inverter for wind turbine system. Then, a control STSMC-DPC and SVM strategies are applied. The active and reactive powers that are generated by the DFIG will be decoupled by the orientation of the stator flux and controlled by super-twisting sliding mode control. Its simulated performance is then compared with conventional sliding mode control. The test of robustness of the controllers against machine parameters uncertainty will be tackled, and the simulations will be presented. Simulation results of the proposed controller (SMC-DPC) and (STSMC-DPC) scheme are compared for various step changes in the active and reactive power. This approach super-twisting sliding mode control is validated using the Matlab/Simulink software and the results of the simulation can prove the excellent performance of this control in terms of improving the quality of the energy supplied to the electricity grid.

Winery wastewaters are high strength, and readily biodegradable, making them perfect for application of anaerobic digestion. However, inherent buffering against pH changes also requires some process knowledge and monitoring. They are therefore an important target for anaerobic process control. This has had limited application, but is emerging as an important research and development area. In this paper, we evaluate the use of model-based control analysis of a heavily loaded vinasse-fed reactor. Two controllers – both proportional-integral (PI) – on total volatile fatty acids (VFA) (&lt;500 mg/L), alkalinity (VFA/Total Alkalinity &lt; 0.2) were evaluated in a fitted model, against the actual control mechanism used, which was model-based adaptive control. The two controllers were both less aggressive than the adaptive controller, producing less gas overall, but also using more caustic for pH control. The controllers were also evaluated against their ability to deal with noise, as PI controllers are relatively poor for controlling non-linear processes. The VFA controller was very poor with noise added, proving difficult to tune, and oscillatory. The alkalinity controller was effective with moderate detuning. This emphasizes the need to use effective controller inputs, when applying simple, linear controllers. Overall, use of a model was an effective method to evaluate the different controllers in a competitive way, in a standardized environment.

In this paper, a novel low-cost digital controller to drive a buck converter fed voltage source inverter (VSI) based brushless DC (BLDC) machine has been proposed. This controller is designed to be implemented solely in digital platforms and has multiple numbers of predefined discrete duty ratios. In conjunction with buck converter fed VSI, the controller is beneficial to enhance the speed and resultant torque profile of BLDC motor drive as compared to conventional bang-bang or on-off controller. The controller also incorporates a current limiter to avoid the over-current loading of the motor. The sampling time and the design of the current limiter are mathematically derived in the paper. The working efficiency of the developed controller for the BLDC motor drive has been examined for various vital and steady-state conditions. The speed ripples, settling time, tolerance to the commanded speed, and load variations are validated and presented in this paper. The proposed controller has been performed and implemented in the field-programmable gate array platform and compared to generic pre-existing controllers to validate the cost-effectiveness of the controller.
