У проекті проектується ливарний цех потужністю 1000 тонн придатних виливків на рік із такого металу як сплави марок 20Л 25Л 35Л та 40ХЛ. Розробляється технологічний процес виготовлення виливка «Колесо» масою 410 кг з металу марки 35Л та другого виливка «Кришка» масою 0,9 кг з металу марки 25Л. Результати проектування – розроблена технологія виливку «Колесо» литтям у разові піщано-глинясті форми та технологія виливку «Кришка» литтям за моделями, що витоплюються. Виконано технічне планування відділення ливарного цеху та ливарного устаткування. При проектуванні відділеннь проведено аналіз необхідності устаткування, виконано розрахунок організаційних та економічних чинників, результатом яких є обчислення заробітної плати робітників(основних та допоміжних), витрати на амортизацію устаткування та енергетичні ресурси, що застосовуються для прискорення виробничого процесу. Згідно нормативних документів враховано всі заходи щодо безпеки життєдіяльності працівників та приділено увагу до збереження екологічності навколишнього середовища, за допомогою встановлення запобігаючих засобів біля устаткування та встановлення притяжних витяжок в конструкції будівлі та безпосередньо у відділенні фінішних операцій.
The dissertation consists of: 115 pages; 11 figs .; 21 tables; 25 links. The project envisages a foundry with a capacity of 1000 tons of suitable castings per year from such metal as alloys of grades 20L 25L 35L and 40HL. The technological process of making the casting "Wheel" weighing 410 kg from 35L metal and the second casting "Cover" weighing 0.9 kg from 25L metal is being developed. The results of the design – the technology of casting "Wheel" by casting in disposable sand-clay molds and the technology of casting "Cover" by casting on melted models. The technical planning of the foundry department and foundry equipment was performed. When designing the departments, an analysis of the need for equipment, the calculation of organizational and economic factors, the result of which is the calculation of wages (basic and auxiliary), depreciation costs of equipment and energy resources used to accelerate the production process. According to the regulations, all measures for the safety of life of employees are taken into account and attention is paid to preserving the environmental friendliness of the environment by installing precautions near the equipment and installing hoods in the building structure and directly in the finishing department.

Casting is a metal forming process: Pouring the melt metal into a desired shaped mould wait it solidifies. It is often used to manufacture complex parts, which are too expensive or time consuming to produce by other methods. However, casting probably is one of the most challenging manufacturing process. It is a highly technical engineering process requiring deep scientific understanding. A typical modern casting process contains six different stages, which named as melting, alloying, moulding, pouring, solidification and finishing respectively. At each stage, high level and precision of process control is required. Casting process also is one of the most energy intensive manufacturing processes. The metal melting consumes over half of the energy in a casting process. Therefore, the expenses on the casting process has been a significant concern due to the rising of the energy prices. A new casting process, CRIMSON (Constrained Rapid Induction Melting Single Shot Up-casting), has been developed by teams from Cranfield University and the N-TEC Ltd. It can improve the energy efficiency of a casting process without reducing the quality. The process, firstly, uses the rapid induction furnace to melt just enough metal for one single casting; then transfer the molten charge to a computer controlled counter gravity casting platform. Finally, the highly controlled metal flow is pushed into the mould to finish the pouring and solidification. Such process reduces the defect generation and energy consumption by rapid melting, minimum holding and smooth filling of the mould. Since the CRIMSON process is a relatively new casting production process. The main objective of this dissertation is to validate the CRIMSON process by different approaches. Firstly, the concept of the sound casting running system design and the principle of the novel CRIMSON process has been introduced. Secondly, Flow3D (A comprehensive, general-purpose computational fluid dynamics software) has been used to investigate the filling patterns of the novel CRIMSON process and the gravity sand casting process. Thirdly, life cycle assessment (LCA) method has been used in this project to review the energy consumption of the conventional casting sector and the novel CRIMSON process. The inventory data was used to assess the environmental impacts of the both casting processes. Moreover, this project investigated the productivity of the CRIMSON process. The productivity of the CRIMSON process for certain range of the casting product has been investigated and compared with the conventional casting process. Finally, the cost of the CRIMSON process has been estimated. The total variable cost of the CRIMSON process was investigated and compared with the conventional casting process as well. Key conclusions can be addressed as below:  Because of the geometry requirement, the gravity poured running system cannot avoid generating double oxide film defect during the filling.  For the CRIMSON process, all the important parameters (such as temperature, time, and velocity) are under control. The piston only needs to move at low speed to guarantee the liquid metal is delivered smoothly and the double oxide films are not formed or entrapped.  The material flow and the embedded energy of the casting making can be evaluated by the lift cycle inventory data collection method. The embedded energy of the sand casting is about 55 MJ/kg. However, to consider the recycling and reusing the internal material, the energy burden of the CRIMSON and the conventional sand casting are 16 MJ/kg and 18 MJ/kg respectively. Considering the energy burden for saleable casting, the CRIMSON process consumes 230 MJ/kg to make saleable casting; the conventional process consumes 449 MJ/kg to make saleable casting.  By using the collected inventory data, the environmental impact assessment can be carried out for both the casting process. The results indicate that the CRIMSON process is environmental friendly compared with the conventional sand casting process.  A complete foundry model was developed in order to investigate the productivity of the CRIMSON process. The WITNESS simulation tool was used to assess the productivity investigation. For casting size less than 2 kg, the conventional sand casting process is productive. However, as the casting size increases, the CRIMSON process becomes more productive.  Cost estimation also carried out for the CRIMSON process. The total variable cost of the casting process was investigated. It was found that the most expensive variable cost is the raw material cost, which can be 80% of the total variable cost. Furthermore, it is concluded that the CRIMSON process has less variable cost compared with the conventional sand casting process under most of the circumstances.

From 1930 to 1955, Amon Carter, publisher of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, exerted his power to create modern Fort Worth. Carter used his stature as the publisher of the city's major newspaper to build a modern city out of this livestock center. Between 1930 and 1955, Carter lobbied successfully for New Deal funds for Fort Worth, persuaded Consolidated Aircraft to build an airplane plant in the city, and convinced Burlington Railways to stay in the city. He also labored unsuccessfully to have the Trinity River Canal built and to secure a General Motors plant for Fort Worth. These efforts demonstrate that Carter was indeed the founder of modern Fort Worth.

Arquiteturas de software exercem um papel significativo no desenvolvimento de sistemas intensivos de software a fim de permitir satisfazer tanto requisitos funcionais quanto n?ofuncionais. Em particular, arquiteturas de software din?micas t?m surgido para endere?ar caracter?sticas dos sistemas contempor?neos que operam em ambientes din?micos e consequentemente sujeitos a mudan?as em tempo de execu??o. Linguagens de descri??o arquitetural (ADLs) s?o utilizadas para representar arquiteturas de software, produzindo modelos que podem ser utilizados tanto em tempo de projeto quanto em tempo de execu??o. Contudo, a maioria das ADLs existentes possui limita??es em diversos aspectos: (i) possui enfoque em aspectos estruturais, topol?gicos da arquitetura; (ii) n?o prov? um suporte adequado ? representa??o de aspectos comportamentais da arquitetura; (iii) n?o permite descrever aspectos avan?ados relativos ? din?mica da arquitetura; (iv) ? limitada com rela??o ? verifica??o de propriedades arquiteturais e restri??es, e; (v) ? desconectada do n?vel de implementa??o, resultando em inconsist?ncias entre arquitetura e implementa??o. No intuito de endere?ar esses problemas, esta tese prop?e um framework formal para arquiteturas de software din?micas. Software architectures play a significant role in the development of software-intensive systems in order to allow satisfying both functional and non-functional requirements. In particular, dynamic software architectures have emerged to address characteristics of the contemporary systems that operate on dynamic environments and consequently subjected to changes at runtime. Architecture description languages (ADLs) are used to represent software architectures, producing models that can be used at design time and/or runtime. However, most existing ADLs have limitations in several facets: (i) they are focused on structural, topological aspects of the architecture; (ii) they do not provide an adequate support for representing behavioral aspects of the architecture; (iii) they do not allow describing advanced aspects regarding the dynamics of the architecture; (iv) they are limited with respect to the automated verification of architectural properties and constraints; and (v) they are disconnected from the implementation level, thus entailing inconsistencies between architecture and implementation. In order to tackle these problems, this thesis proposes formally founded framework for dynamic software architectures. Such a framework comprises: (i) ?-ADL, a formal language for describing software architectures under both structural and behavioral viewpoints; (ii) the specification of programmed dynamic reconfiguration operations; (iii) the automated generation of source code from architecture descriptions; and (iv) an approach based on statistical model checking (SMC) to formally express and verify properties in dynamic software architectures. The main contributions brought by the proposed framework are fourfold. First, the ?-ADL language was endowed with architectural-level primitives for describing programmed dynamic reconfigurations. Second, architecture descriptions in ?- ADL are translated towards implementation source code in the Go programming language, thereby contributing to minimize architectural drifts. Third, a novel logic, called DynBLTL, is used to formally express properties in dynamic software architectures. Fourth, a toolchain relying on SMC was built to automate the verification of architectural properties while striving to reduce effort, computational resources, and time for performing such a task. In this work, two wireless sensor network-based systems are used to validate the framework elements.

This research uses the concepts of five forces analysis proposed by Porter and core competence analysis proposed by Prahalad to formulate an operation strategy for a software company, whose main business is to provide customized software. The five force analysis is to justify “how good is the business?” Analysis results show that the industry is migrating from a growing stage to a mature stage. The core competence is to reveal “how to play well in the business?” Analysis results show that domain knowledge (knowledge about customers’ operations), rather than information technology platform, has been identified as the core competence of the company.

In the wafer foundry industry, due to high investment cost and fast depreciation in equipment, the fully use of equipment utilization and increasing the productivity are the major objectives of all foundries. As we know, the output of fab is limited by the bottleneck machine. If there is a discrepancy between planned and actual products mix, the new bottleneck machine will occur and the capacity will be short. In general, all famous foundries, such as TSMC, UMC,…etc., are taken the backup solution for this kind of problem. Unfortunately, the side effects will occur if the backup quantity can’t be well controlled. Based on the above situation, a capacity backup determination model will be proposed. There are two parts in this model , one is Excess Capacity Determination Model (ECDM) ; the other is Performance Evaluation Model (PEM). The concept of protective capacity is applied to determine the excess capacity in ECDM. The determination of protective capacity is based on statistical fluctuation of factory which includes the machine downtime and unreasonable waiting time of WIP before machines. The queuing theory and Little’s Law are applied in PEM to evaluate the influences upon throughput、WIP and cycle time of backup fab when the requested backup capacity is over excess capacity which backup fab can support. Based on the information provided by the capacity backup determination model, the decisions of capacity backup can be made accordingly.

ABSTRACT TFT-LCD industry is the newly arising star right after semiconductor industry in Taiwan. With quick growth of TFT-LCD industry, it brings in great business opportunity of glass substrate, ITO glass, polarizer film, backlight module, control/driver IC, and testing/assembly etc. Most of these key components or equipments were provided by international companies in the past. Now there is a strong incentive to manfacture these key components locally with the take-off of TFT-LCD Industry in Taiwan. With the competitive advantage at IC design and wafer foundry, the purpose of this thesis is to discover the solution of growth for wafer foundry and IC design companies that aim to TFT-LCD driver IC. From the foundation of wafer foundry business, its growth equation has been continuous investment at next or more advanced technologies to ensure high profit margin that will be consequently used for even more advanced technologies later. This model has been well proven in the past, however, it may not work for driver IC since unit price and profit margin of driver IC are relatively lower although its demand is huge and stable. To wafer foundry, an innovative strategy is necessary to remain success in the field of driver IC. Instead of sustaining innovation, this study tries to provide the solution of disruptive innovation for wafer foundry and drive IC companies. Several proposals were suggested and examined through various aspects of finance, operation capability, customer base, innovation, and risk. The expertise from interviews with the professionals at IC design, wafer foundry, and TFT-LCD is also put into consideration. The results of this study indicate that investment for more capacity is not recommended. Strategic alliance between the leading wafer foundry and 2nd/ 3rd tier foundries is suggested. Through cross licence of technology and operating knowledge, both leading wafer foundry and 2nd/3rd tier foundries will enjoy the fast growing market of driver IC. With this approach, leading foundry won’t risk itself to face to crystal cycle and 2nd/3rd tier foundries will win the opportunity to penetrate driver IC manufacturing.

A machine-mix configuration denotes a factory capacity implementation plan which describes the number of machines and machine types for the factory. Determining machine-mix configuration is a very important problem for an IC foundry because the machines are quite expensive. Most previous studies on machine-mix configuration focus on developing methods for maximize throughput under budget constraints. In an IC foundry, short cycle time is a very important justification criterion, yet rarely included in previous relevant studies. The objective of this research is to develop a decision-making mechanism for designing the machine-mix configuration for an IC foundry. The input to the decision-making mechanism involves (1) product mix or demand pattern; (2) throughput constraint or the lowest production output rate; (3) cycle time constraints or the longest mean cycle time. The output tends to give a set of machine types and corresponding machine numbers which would satisfy the above two constraints in producing the given product mix, under the criterion of minimizing total investment. A basic design method together with four embellishments have been developed and tested. Testing results show that among the four proposed machine-mix configurations, the difference between the best and the worst solutions can be around 10 Million US dollars.

It is very important to satisfy the requirements of customers. In this dissertation, an integrated order fulfillment system for a foundry fab is constructed to improve the on-time delivery. Due to make-to-order strategy and capacity intensive characteristics in the foundry fab, the system is modified from the general order fulfillment architecture, which is for the material intensive industry, to the one that is suitable for the foundry fab. The entire dissertation is classified into four parts: modeling of the system, intelligent forecast process, planning process and implementation. For modeling the system, the systematic UML analysis and design are applied to develop and decompose the entire order fulfillment system into three processes: the order management process, the planning process and the intelligent forecast process. Furthermore, the ingredient agents are also constructed to support the activities in each process. In the intelligent forecast process, the tool model is proposed to estimate the cycle time of orders. Besides, the on-line architecture is applied to learn the behavior of the fab dynamically. The results show that BPNN approach is better than queueing network approach and the dynamic moving average method. Furthermore, the forecasting error is below 8% in average. In the planning process, the priority setting rule in the priority setting agent is applied to adjust the priority of lots and the tool-dispatching rule in the capacity allocation agent is used to check the bottleneck tools in order to ensure the on-time delivery of the orders. The coupling effect, which is a shop-floor phenomenon and is usually omitted in studies, is discussed in the planning process. A new tool-dispatching rule, Maximum Fuzzy Candidative Ratio (MFCR), is proposed to solve the capacity allocation problem under the constraint of the coupling effect. The results show that MFCR has better performance in reducing bottleneck tools and enhance the throughput than other rules. As to the implementation, a Generic Message-Passing Platform (GMPP) is proposed to support the communication between applications and people in the distributed environment. In addition, if new agents are created, they are easily added into the system due to the benefits of the distributed framework and communication on the GMPP. Besides, a Business-to-Business environment is built by applying the RosettaNet standard and the Microsoft BizTalk Server for the information exchange between the foundry fab and customers over the Internet.

The semiconductor industry is one of the most important economic lifelines in Taiwan, especially the foundry for Taiwan. Taiwan's semiconductor industry in the foundry in the global market share in 2016 about 70%, the output value of the world's highest, including tsmc accounted for more than 50% of the global market share. As the foundry industry is a high capital intensity and high-tech threshold of the industry, so in the wafer foundry industry in the future development of technical capacity and future applications of technology products on the chip and other related issues, is particularly important. This research focuses on the development of wafer foundry industry and customer relationship. And the collection of literature, data collection, expert interviews and survey-based, based on wafer foundry competitive advantage, research and development and customer relationships, the future development trend of the four themes to explain the future development of wafer foundry focus. These include: Moore's Law and the future development of lithography processes, foundry and household relations, the future direction of application of semiconductor chips. AHP level analysis method questionnaire, according to the questionnaire results to calculate the weight, to determine the problem and decision-making, the proposed future direction. Based on the analysis of tsmc, this study explores the development of semiconductor foundry industry under the Moore's law and the future development of wafer technology, and discusses the development trend of semiconductor foundry lithography technology. Finally, the producers of the foundry, IC design industry, packaging and testing industry, follow-up researchers to make recommendations.

Semiconductor industry is the most important and high-tech industry in Taiwan. Foundry is a business model for the semiconductor industry. It specializes in semiconductor wafer manufacturing and accepts commissions from other IC design houses to manufacture wafers of a specific specification. Companies that do not engage in IC design themselves. (Source: Topology Research Institute 2017/11) Taiwan’s Foundry accounted for 70% of the global market, mainly as the Foundry leader TSMC has accounted for nearly 56% of the global foundry market. However, with intense competition in the Foundry market, the company''s operating strategy, process technology and operating performance have become the key to leading the industry. This paper is based on the worldwide top 10 Foundries as research samples, using the concept of Return On Assets (ROA) (Ho and Zhu, 2004) to analyze the financial data of the top 10 Foundries. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used to evaluate the relationship between operating efficiency, operating effectiveness and operating performance of the top 10 Foundries from 2013 to 2017. The research results show that for the semiconductor industry, there is no obvious relationship between operating efficiency and operating effectiveness, but the result indicates that operating effectiveness affects operating performance more than operational efficiency. Companies with good operating effectiveness have better operating performance. During the five-years period, TSMC has best performance in terms of operating efficiency and effectiveness, and the final operating performance efficiency value ranks no.1. The main reason is that after the Financial crisis in 2009, the global market was in a sluggish state, and many semiconductor companies were in the doldrums. However, TSMC reversed its operations. Since the end of 2010, it has invested a lot of R&D cost in the development of semiconductor new process technology and the advanced Giga FAB construction. Nowadays, TSMC is able to lead in semiconductor process technology to create more operating income and net profit, and become the most profitable company in Taiwan.

This thesis presents a linear programming (LP) model for simultaneously solving the staffing level and operator assignment problems in a semiconductor foundry fab, with the following characteristics. The foundry fab imposes a no-lay-off policy but allows overtime, keeps high quality shop floor operations, aims to tightly control the staffing costs, and faces the frequent change of product mix. The operator staffing problem in such a fab was not addressed in previous studies. The LP model aims to minimize the operator staffing cost. The LP solutions have been examined and found to be insensitive stochastic demands modeled by various simulation replicates.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the competitiveness and synergy on merger and acquisition of Taiwan wafer foundry industry faces challenges between rapid growth of mainland China wafer foundry industry and IDM conducts foundry sales. The synergy analysis is conducted on both operating Synergy and Financial Synergy on pre-Merger and after-Merger of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company(TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation(UMC), even legal discussion in this M&A case. In addition, we propose the competitive advantage of this new company. The study shows that the merger between TSMC and UMC, will accomplish the merger synergy and overcome the threat of competitors. On the aspect of operation synergy, the merger will provide more 8 inch wafer capacity from UMC fab to solve the tsmc capacity shortage issue and improve the UMC gross profit with tsmc management style and economy of scale. On the aspect of market synergy, with enough capacity for sales and strength of UMC in Asia market, it will increase the market share. The last financial synergy, we find that the new company owns almost 75% wafer foundry market share and has absolute control right in price setting, in the other hand, develops the latest and high-level products with the economic cost. These benefits are good for the return of equity and is more than pre-merger.

The Analysis of Strategy Matrix for Crisis Detection ---- IC Foundry Abstract As the fast change in environment of enterprise management, crisis may happen if can not catch up with the environment change. The crisis management theory is becoming a mature field since continuous studies in this field. Among them, crisis detection is a tool to detect environment change. To draw up the management strategy in the fast change environment, it is an important work for enterprise to include crisis management or crisis thinking in business strategy. In this study, by connecting crisis detection and strategy matrix analysis, to build up crisis detection and strategy model and make enterprise more clear on the importance of crisis detection when they draft business strategy. There are two real cases in this study, 921 earthquake crisis in TSMC(Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) and fire accidence crisis in UICC(United Integrated Circuits Company, dissolved and merged into UMC on Jan,2000), the crisis in operation management were experienced. In this study, comparing the strategies of crisis management on fab restoration and crisis detection, we found that the pre-thinking before strategy actions is an environment detection. It is common with crisis detection in concept. The author recommend that enterprise should promote crisis operation up to strategy level in order to properly response the enterprise crisis, in accordance with business strategy and transform crisis into favorable point Key Words: business strategy, strategy matrix analysis, crisis detection

The IC Foundry had come to the era of micro-profit. Under the strong pressure of competition from all aspects, the allocation and management of finite resources are more important day by day in wafer fabrication facility. This research is to design and implement a dispatching module architecture that based on distributed object-oriented technology for IC foundry. It provides a unified system environment to manage the task dispatch operation, so that the management and setup of dispatching rules for heterogonous areas in fab will be more convenient. The proposed system allows foundry to inject dispatching rules into the system and to integrate with other systems. This will greatly promote the automation of task dispatch. This mechanism is expected to grade up the utilization of equipments, cuts down the average flow time of production. Further, the proposed can provide a great assistance for balancing the production line. The proposed system is implemented in three-tier by using the Enterprise JavaBeans(EJB)as the kernel. The client tier is applied as an antenna to receive the manufacturing information of shop floor. The business logic tier is designed for executing the algorithms of dispatching rule. The database tier is designed to integrate with the MES relational database to support the auto-task dispatch operation. The developed system architecture has the following features of distributed object-oriented technology including scalability, maintainability, reliability, extensibility, etc. and can be closely connected with EIS inside the fab. The proposed system can provide a good reference for IC foundry in developing further information systems.

The hit rate and production cycle time are primary performance measures in the LED chip foundry. This research studies different dispatching rules for the manufacturing process of LED chip foundry. Simulation models are conducted to evaluate the performances of four different dispatching rules, First In First out (FIFO), earliest due date (EDD), shortest processing time (SPT) and critical ratio (CR). Simulation results show that EDD rule has the best performance of hit rate, and SPT rule has the best performance of production cycle time.

The financial crisis started in September 2008. All companies in the world suffered severely. For semiconductor foundry companies, they not only compete with each other but also need to overcome the economic recession due to the financial crisis. In Taiwan, semiconductor foundry business has huge influence on all semiconductor supply chains. In this thesis, we study the how semiconductor foundry companies adopt a marketing strategy to prevent the decreasing ROE (Return On Equity) due to the mature technology under Moore’s law from case studies. To study the marketing strategy of semiconductor foundry companies, we give the background of foundry companies in the world. We also analyze the strength and weakness of semiconductor foundry companies in Taiwan. Besides, we also discuss the business of IC circuit design companies which are the customers of semiconductor foundry companies. The IC circuit designers are developing SOC (System-on-chip) with powerful function and advanced technology due to better ROE. For IC designers, the earlier they promote their product to the market, the more money they earn. As a result, the business of Silicon Intellectual Properties (SIP) increases day by day. We adopt the models of ‘Product Life Cycle’ and ‘Technology Adoption Life Cycle’ in the textbook of ‘Marketing Strategy’ to analyze the technology development of semiconductor foundry companies after we know the background of foundry business and all requirements of IC design companies. Meanwhile, we do the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analyses on foundry companies. Furthermore, from Marketing Strategy, a company should adopt 4Ps (Product, Price, Place, and Promotion) to compete with other companies in outer PEST (Political, Economic, Social, and Technical) environment for survival. From case studies, we find that for survival, the foundry companies have changed their marketing strategy from only manufacturers to SIP providers to increase switching costs for circuit design companies. The actual actions are :1.Form a good partnership 2. Provide abundant and qualified SIPs; 3. Provide a better environment for circuit designers;4. Provide one-stop turnkey service;5. Provide a qualified technology; 6. Have stabilities of yield, production, and process cycle time; 7. Provide the famous brand.

In view of the increasingly complicated business environment for Pure-Play foundries, with heightened competitiveness, tremendous pricing pressure, and ever- increasing capital expenditures, it is vital for the foundry companies to be able to have a consolidated view of all business factors and how they interplay with each other, to eventually affect the company involved as well as the industry as a whole. This thesis focuses on the development of such a dynamic model, identifying the key factors – industry demand, competitor capacity, pricing tactics, and the distribution of demand herewith. With the framework setup, parameters identified, assumptions specified, we then focus on discussing how the overall model would work, and its validation. Once validated, we proceed to explore the various applications of the model under different business conditions, how scenarios should be setting under those specific conditions, to demonstrate the model’s practical use in supporting strategic decision-making. What’s discussed in this thesis, while laying a sound basis for dynamic industry study, can still be improved further with some more optimization and risk analysis mechanism. It is also to bear in mind that we should view the outcome of the model as a comparison amongst scenarios for executive consideration, rather than absolute financial projections; nor should it be used for short-term capacity planning.

In order to improve the on-time delivery of IC foundries, this research develops a dynamic dispatching rule that gives higher priority to thee possibly delayed lots. The basic idea is by giving an alarm whenever the progress of a manufacturing wafer lot is behind its lot control schedule. The lot control schedule defines the target progress of each operation of the lot. Based on the lot information provided by the lot control schedule system, we adjust the dispatching priority of wafer lot. Simulation results show that the proposed dynamic dispatching rule can effectively reduce the number of delay lots if the lot control schedule is appropriately defined.

This research proposes that IC foundries can provide multiple cycle time product service in order to meet the customer requirements. Multiple cycle time product service is that, wafer lots are assigned different committed manufacturing cycle time based on customer’s demands. For example, wafer lots are groups into three classes: shorter cycle time lots, regular cycle time lots, and longer cycle time lots. Customers can place their orders with a particular cycle time and price. Based on this idea, this research proposes a systematic approach to determine various committed cycle time and the corresponding relative prices. This research uses the APS software, Adexa MCP, and the semiconductor manufacturing line simulator, ASAP, to determine the appropriate level of throughput and the reasonable committed cycle time with a given product-mix. Then, we use ASAP to analyze the impact of different percentage of shorter cycle time lots on the following cases: (1) the decrease of throughput with the given committed cycle time and a given delivery rate; and (2) with the given throughput, the decrease of lots that are made within the committed cycle time. Then we define a new committed manufacturing cycle time with that a given delivery rate can be satisfied. Based on these impacts, we can define the relative prices among various cycle time products.

Managing risks of a business enterprise is one of the most important responsibilities to its management, besides, it could help enterprise to reach its business goal, and then maximize the return for its shareholders. Reducing business loss, managing uncertainty, and business performance enhancement are the three major risk management applications for enterprise in management and business control. In general, management and strategy decision is a internal process flow in an enterprise, there is few chance and opportunity to participate the activities for shareholders outside the company. How many risk the enterprise is encountering ? and what is the impact by the risk for the enterprise in the future ? Except merely rely on the wiseness of management team, it needs external expert to monitor, audit, and then provides help from different angle point of view. Enterprise risk-base auditing covers the scope from the industry environment , the strategy making and decision of top management, and detailed operations of the process flow in the enterprise to proceed the risk evaluation on theenterprise operations and internal control. This kind of auditing could help enterprise for having effectively internal control and to prevent the possible business risks, which may result in financial risk or get business into trouble. By employing the methodology of risk-base auditing, this study investigates the strategy risks for wafer foundry companies deciding to go memory business. It includes the environment re-structure of the industry, the background and motivation of the decision for foundry companies, and the possible risks between IDM companies and Foundry companies. As a capacity filler, b. Technology transfer and fab learning vehicle, c. Setup company/Faboratory by join-venture, d. Tailor-made for specific customer, e. Common platform for memory technology for all customers. 3. The strategy risks for IDM and foundry companies There are risks existing for IDM and Foundry companies, relevant industryrisk,information risk, people/talent risk, technology risk, capital risk, adding value risk, and competition/collaboration risk. 4. Auditing of enterprise strategy risk The related risks stated in items 3 are focused and suggestions and solutions for the risks are pointed out to reduce or minimize the impact. 5. The purpose of this research is to construct an MES (manufacturing execution system) architecture for cycle time management in an IC foundry. An activity-based method is developed to deploy cycle time into 16 types of time elements. Of the sixteen types, fifteen types are non-value added activities. An MES architecture or data collection mechanism is developed to measure the sixteen types of cycle time elements. Analysis of the collected data of cycle time elements would help identify the points for improving the system. A simulation program written in Simple++ has been developed to simulate the operation of a hypothetical IC foundary, a scaled down model, and simulate the data collection mechanism of the proposed MES. The data collected is then stored in a database for users’ retrieval, in order to identify the points for improving cycle time in a system.

In general, the money investing at the semiconductor wafer fabrication is enormous. The greater part of the investment is spent in purchasing equipment. Under the improper machines investment strategy, it will result in the fund waste and machines idleness if there were some little equipment that has more quantity than required. On the other hand, it will bring about the bottleneck processes to give rise to the tardy production flow, WIP piling up and production efficiency reduction if there were some little equipment that has less quantity than required. Therefore, making accurate decision for machine set would deeply influence business performance and profitability of semiconductor corporation. In view of this, this thesis wants to present an analytic approach that how decides to purchase the most appropriate for a set of machine types subjected to a given product mix and the fixed budget. Through the analytic process, one can optimize the system performance and minimize the investment cost. This thesis also studies the problem of optimal machines purchase scheduling. That is, given a default product mix expansion path at each period within planning horizon and under have decided total machines combination needed for the planning horizon, the analytic process suggested by this thesis would like to gradually and timely introduce machines according to different capacity and performances requirement for the separate periods in order to most efficiently make use of the investment fund. Both of the decision models are based on a system performance measure method of semiconductor foundry, which is developed by this thesis. In this thesis, we develop a hybrid decomposed queueing network model based on actual operating data from one particular foundry fab for rapid analysis of several performance measures. System analyzer module provides the analysis of arrival pattern and service pattern for each tool group and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) analysis for each tool. System predictor module provides the forecast of important performance measures, such as products cycle time, lots remaining cycle time, tool utilization, queueing length, tool moves, stage moves. In the hybrid decomposed queueing network model, every tool group is modeled as a single queue. The empirical data of lot arrivals and services are utilized as the input of the queues. Any two queues are assumed to be independent of each other. By utilizing this decomposition concept in the hybrid decomposed queueing network model, there is no limitation on the number of tool groups as well as product families and hence priority queue model can be utilized. Besides, a modulized two-tier system, QFAB, is designed to implement the hybrid decomposed queueing network model proposed in this thesis. A systematic analysis of arrival pattern and service pattern for tool groups is proposed. An approach to compute the effective tool number for tool groups is also addressed. Based on the analysis, the supervisors can gain more insights and choose the proper queueing models. Comparing the obtained results to the actual fab data, the accuracy of prediction of cycle time is satisfactory.

The major purpose of this research is to develop an innovative capacity swap solution focusing on determine an optimal capacity swap rate (CSR) for capacity swap problem which were currently solved based on experience and trial and error. The major value of this research is to determine an optimal CSR to improve the capacity utilization and on time delivery rate. Semiconductor foundry industry is capital intensive. While the capital expense of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is expected to exceed US$ 10 billion in 2013, capacity utilization rate is critical to the capital effectiveness and profitability of TSMC. However, capacity planning is extremely difficult since TSMC has no products of its own. Currently there are over 6000 customer products from previous orders that TSMC has to be ready to take orders from. A route for advance technology product typically consists of over 1000 steps. It is extremely complicate for TSMC to plan capacity usage and generate Available to Promise (ATP) profile based on these routes. Current practice is to first group these over 6000 “possible routes” into clusters. Routes within the same cluster are more similar in terms of tools required and hence capacity can be swapped among these routes. A number of “representing routes” within each cluster will be selected and are used for capacity planning and generating ATP profile. The second step is to define a “capacity swap rate” (henceforth CSR) for each of the possible routes to represent the capacity consumption ratio between it and the representing route. Upon an order, TSMC will use the CSR to estimate required capacity and provide a delivery date in real-time. If the CSR is too low, then the tool utilization rate will be low. If the rate is too high, then the capacity will be overestimated and the product will not be delivered on time. Therefore, we hope the capacity utilization rate have no significant difference after the changeover of capacity between products. This research builds a simulation models base on the designed dataset to represent the 12-inch fab. The model shows the real-world operation of the fab. The simulation model can be used to verify the feasibility of the resulting CSR from cluster analysis (CA) and principal component analysis (PCA). The simulation model also can potentially generate more accurate CSR than CA and PCA but with significantly more effort and time. This study uses mean absolute error (MAE) to measure the accuracy of CSR that impacts the difference of capacity utilization rate after the changeover of capacity between products. The results indicate that we can improve the variation of capacity utilization rate to 0.2%-0.4%. While TSMC’s total output reaches 14 million pieces of eight-inch equivalent wafers of market value at NT$ 27 billion in 2012, the proposed solution has significant impact on semiconductor foundry company’s revenue.

In the early stage of semiconductor industry, the production model is Vertical Integration, IDM (Integrated Design &; Manufacturing) company handle design and manufacturing process. The production model changed to vertical separation after Foundry and Assembly Manufacturer appeared in 1980, and many successful Fabless Design Houses also emerged at the same moment. The typical cooperating model is Design House designs IC layout, Foundry in charge of wafer manufacturing (ex., TSMC, UMC), wafer testing house in charge of yield test (ex., KYEC, Ardentec), and Assembly site in charge of wafer sawing, package, and final test processes (ex., ASE, SPIL). In the last decade, the semiconductor production is more and more complicated, and the quality requirement from Design Houses is also increasing. Foundry cannot just play the role as a wafer manufacturer, provides the value-added Turnkey service which includes “Fast Yield Feedback” and “Producing Problem Solving” is also very important. Base on above circumstance, all Foundries should face a choice to build their own wafer testing line or outsource to Pure-play wafer testing house. H is A Foundry’s production planning manager of wafer testing department, and B company is A’s key customer. B’s products are the communication chips used in Mobile Devices. A provide B turnkey service, that means besides wafer manufacturing, A also supports B to handle wafer yield testing. Recently B’s new product, X chip is moving into last stage of manufacturing development, and it will be turned into mass production after a quarter. This chip will be used on the world Top 3 cell phone manufacturers’ major products, the demand is very strong. X chip use the newest model of test platform and A Foundry did not have it. So for A Foundry’s testing department, they need to decide to buy new test platform or outsource to subcontractors By the way, the test time of X chip is twice to triple than other products, and B is also request A to have the capability to deliver huge quantity chips in a very short time. This will be the largest new platform requirement for A’s testing department. Furthermore, even A decides to outsource all wafers, currently there is no subcontractor can provide enough capacity to fulfill this project. To consider the requirement of cost, quality, delivery, and fast yield feedback, how does H make decision to “build InHouse capacity” or “outsourcing to subcotractor”, then achieve the win-win for B &; A self?

In order to face varied and competitive market, manufacturing not only penetrative control the trend of customer requirement, quickly solve customer complain, but also effective to increase customer satisfaction. At the same time, its need to reduce manufacturing cost. Foundry FAB develop high-tech technology like 90,65nm in the near future. Before product go to mass production, many of design change, engineering experiment change and process change result in cost increasing. Some of product change spec. due to production productivity improvement and reduce material cost by R&D department. Even the proposal of product spec. change have been bring up and R&D members discuss the related problem with those case.However, all evaluation step just only consider single engineering and material case. It’s ignore the more specific and entirely evaluate manufacturing corresponding related engineering that come out incomplete evaluation of manufacturing cost. Therefore, my research focus on build-up cost evaluation model for new process development in R&D stage based on Activity-Based Costing(ABC).In order to analyze the cost of new process development in all activities, my research extract key activities of R&D stage to extend the study of cost evaluation via literature review. In the first step for build-up cost evaluation model based on Activity-Based Costing(ABC).define all operation and cost object like finish goods, R&D project of new process development, and then I interview semiconductor industry to realize cost pool of each operation. like royalty,mask,R&D wafer,equipment depreciation and in-direct cost,etc.In the second step, the resource driver,cost driver to be determined for each cost object and then use Bill of Material(BOM) or mathematical calculation allocate resource cost to each project. Finally input actual data from case study company and study how many resource have been used for each operation and further ignore useless operation to achieve the purpose of cost control and activity based management.

With the selection of the real-time salient information of machines and parts and then a rule’s dispatching mechanism is built for the scheduling task, the dynamic scheduling rules would outperform static ones in a flexible manufacturing system (FMS). Scheduling plays an important role in the production control in a foundry fab, which can be seen as a huge FMS. For a dynamic scheduling system, two critical issues dominate the performance of a scheduled FMS, one is the selection of system attributes and the other is the design of the dispatching mechanism, namely, the classifier design. This thesis proposes a self-organizing scheduling model (SOSM) aiming to provide a FMS with the optimal attribute selection and high generalization, high-accuracy classifier. The proposed scheduling model combines several intelligent methods to achieve these goals, including fuzzy set theory, genetic algorithms, and neural networks. A typical FMS model is conducted in the experiments for the demonstration. Experimental results show that the SOSM outperforms the static dispatching rules under three different performance criteria.

In semiconductor manufacturing, some manufacturing operations may be performed by different routes. In order to improve the on-time delivery of IC foundries, this research develops a method for the possibly delayed lots in the decision-making of changing routes. A lot is identified as a possibly delayed one whenever its progress of manufacturing is behind its lot control schedule. The lot control schedule defines the target progress of each operation of the lot. For a particular possibly delayed lot, facing the choice of two alternative routes, the lot is assigned to take the route where all the lots in the route that are possibly delayed have shorter cycle time. That is, if the lot is dispatched to a route, it may increase the cycle time of all the other lots in the route and may become possibly delayed ones. The cycle time of all these lots in a route can be computed by a method developed in this research. Simulation results show that the proposed method for changing routes can effectively improve on-time delivery when the percentage of planned delayed lots is low (10%), and cannot work well when the percentage of planned delayed lots is relatively high (15%).

Machines used in an IC foundry are quite expensive, and the machine-mix configuration has a great influence to the production performance. Determination of the machine-mix configuration therefore is a very important problem. Most previous research on the machine-mix configuration problem assumes that a particular product-mix has been known. This research develops a decision-making mechanism for multiple sets of product-mix with individual probability. The input of the decision-making mechanism involves the given sets of product-mix and the probabilities, and the cycle time constraints. By using this mechanism, we can find out a machine-mix configuration that minimizes the sum of machine cost and throughput loss cost. The proposed method is composed of five steps as follow: Step 1. Find out the optimal machine-mix for each set of product-mix; Step 2. Find out the initial solution for the multiple sets of uncertain product-mix; Step 3. Calculate the throughput by of the proposed machine-mix by simulation; Step 4. Calculate the total cost of the proposed machine-mix, and justify if there is a space for further improvement? Step 5. Find out an embellished solution, and go to Step 3.

This paper focuses on the design and realization of an application framework to develop Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for semiconductor fab to optimize production activities in shop floor and on rapid response for changeful conditions. MES is the accumulation of the methods and tools used to complete production activity from planned order launch to finished goods, which integrates the accurate and up-to-date information even to the decision-making management. As for a semiconductor industry, it is a complex production which needs high automatic and accurate equipments or devices. Besides, the intelligent information systems for administer. These systems include MES, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS), Supervisor Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA), Human Machine Interface (HMI) and so on. It is another issue to interoperate among these systems. In this paper, we put emphasis on the communication between MES and ERP/APS (Planning layer) and SCADA/HMI (Control layer). We utilize activity diagrams and state diagrams of UML to construct the behavior representations of MES in semiconductor fabrication. This paper mainly presents production flow definition with activity diagrams. Moreover, we further construct the material flow model along with information flow to illustrate MES applied in the actual semiconductor fabrication plant floor. Certainly, the interoperability among the aforementioned systems is also constructed by activity diagrams. In addition to UML, we also apply GTST-MLD (Goal Tree Success Tree and Master Logic Diagram) to validate whether the activity diagrams are corresponded to the eleven functionalities which are defined by MESA International.

From design, manufacturing, packaging, testing to marketing all of them were been single handled by IDM. IDM company also acquire the relevant process technology. The first foundry which named TSMC was founded in 1987 and began to focus on wafer fabrication and technology development.Also let IC design companies (Fabless) flourish.TSMC create a new foundry pattern.With the new generation of process technology that drived IDM industry had to transit into the Fab-lite and Fabless also continue increase outsourcing contract to foundry. The world''s leading foundry manufacturers are also develope the next generation of high-end semiconductor process technology to remain competition.From today''s mainstream 12-inch (300mm) to 18 -inch (450mm) of semiconductor wafer fabrication. 18-inch wafer fab will bring greater structural changes to foundry industry. In recent years, due to many kinds of smart mobile devices and tablet had developed, strong demand led the foundry industry process technology continues to develop rapidly. The subsequent another trend that is wearable device and the Internet of things(LoT) which to be viewed as driving the growth of the foundry industry important momentum on the next stage. This study will be combine with the five forces analysis of concept and classification of the Five aspect of the foundry industry.Then supplemented collected summarizing the foundry industry literature and secondary data and to further expand the factors of each element aspect.To establish Taiwan’s foundry industry theoretical framework for analysis.Combined with the apply analytic hierarchy process to design expert questionnaire.Through experts’ experi- ence explore impact factors for Taiwan''s foundry industry. To provide direction and advice of Taiwan foundry industry in the future. Conclusions of this study is divided into the following three points:1. All the factors in the evaluation index, Number one is 「training to support local equipment manufacturers」most critical, the overall weighted value of 0.129. To performed Taiwan should actively develop localization equipment and continue to promote more sophisticated semiconductor equipment supply chain system.2. Ranked second is 「Product demand and diversification of applications」, The overall weighted value of 0.114. Popular exhibits end electronic products, such as a wearable device、 4K display technology have a lot of demande.It will drive the explosive development foundry industry.3. Ranked third is 「alliance with semiconductor equipment industry」.In response to the semiconductor device manufacturing process for high-end art very huge impact. Therefore, in order to obtain semiconductor-related equipment foundry manufacturers choose to associate with semiconductor equipment industry In this study, recommendations are divided into the following three points: 1. Create niche markets: The future development of the foundry industry will present the bigger situation. The industry should be based on their ability to focus on niche products and manufacturing services.2.Advanced technology of equipment: With domestic Instrument Technology Research Center (ITRC)to help Taiwan Manufacturer independent production of tough&high-precision optical components of the semiconductor device.3.Customer Partnership: We recommend foundries and IC design companies from relay cooperative mode to design &production full cooperation.That can build deeper partnership.
