Повний текст джерелаThe end of conscription announced in 1996 gave way to an entirely professionalized army implying the consideration of new sociopolitical and functional imperatives. In response to these issues, the armies have launched recruitment strategies intended to capture new population segments in order to widen the pool (feminisation, immigrant populations). In this context of structural mutation, the intersection of data collected from interviews taken from a sample of 30 military personnel hailing from immigrant backgrounds and a selection of high-ranked Defence officers allows us to make out the contours of this phenomenon. The analysis of terms of enlistment reveals a typology with three entries listed in the form of those who enlist en rupture, those as stratèges, and those as initiés. Besides deconstructing the vision of homogeneity in profile of these population segments, the analysis of social trajectories reveals that, if their logics for engagement present similarities structurally comparable with the entirety of those who enlist, they equally demonstrate substantial variations and a certain number of specificities in direct connection with their background as descendants of immigrants. The return of intra-military experiences subsequently rounds out our initial typologisation. The adoption of a longitudinal perspective supports a reflection that doubly questions the validity of discourse related to integrative virtues and citizens assigned to armies, a legacy anchored in the mythology of conscription, and the impact of the military experience on that discourse, the representations, and the practices of actors

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis relates to linguistic practice for the French Foreign Legion which build and update a professional built-in identity. We have to consider that discourses relating to military cohesion and diverse military bodies involved create an arbitration which allows to internalize and recompose identities for the individuals and the group to mix and feel part of the same plurality. At the intersection of works and military sociology, this thesis explores the language sciences and discourses analysis. My analysis relates to the manor in which lexical, semantic, enunciated and discursive resources display language practice which organise, direct its sense and mobilise a border/ chair debatable where we insert fragment of materiality, language objects in order to develop a group. Three corpus were developed to define / interrogate this border: A corpus made of scientific-military research questionnaires ; a corpus issued from the song books from the French Foreign Legion ; a corpus tracking the constructions and group relationships in Sidi-Bel-Abbès, which use to be the legion capital. From these various linguistic data, two other corpus were developed from the foreign legion members’ discourses : one corpus on the group of officers with officers named as “Legion”; one corpus on the group of troupe thanks to the participation of ex legionnaires and sous-officer of the French Foreign Legion. Повний текст джерелаFrom July 11th, 1938, date of the law Paul-Boncour which allows for the first time a legal and official mobilization of the women, to the end of the Algerian War, the feminine staffs of the army do not stop increasing. Between 1939 and 1962, France is in war ceaselessly. Present on all the fronts since 1939, the women obtain little by little servicemen's status by the prism of the wars which succeed one another in Europe, then in Indochina and in Algeria. Defying the laws of the gender which forbade them the bearing of the military uniform, the women anticipate the legislative texts and so, force institutions to promulgate laws allowing them to reach the military career. However, this considerable overhang remains overhang in halftone because, in the term of three wars, the women stay outside the Army which limits their professional opportunities. In spite of the status of October 15th, 1951 which guarantees them career prospects on the long term, the cultural obstacles remain still numerous and the women soldiers are far from making the unanimity in the collective unconscious. The image of these women exercising a male profession in the traditionally male virtues of virility, courage and strength, sends back them constantly to the obsession of the denaturation of their biological sex. The weight of the traditions and the gendered assignments limit considerably their acceptance in the fighting memory. However, by choosing the army to serve France from the Second World War to the Algerian War, these pioneers opened the way to the feminization of the army which has never slowed down since

Повний текст джерелаIn the first part of their career, french officers of differents social backgrounds and school level mix and share the same ranks. They are employed in similar positions even if they have unequal institutionnal fates. The future hight-ranking officers (those who come from saint-cyr) and those who are intented to remain in lower ranks (those who come from the noncommissioned officer corps) are promoted together until the rank of captain. Everyone is aware of his career development but the differences only appears long afterwards the beginning of the officers careers. The progressive selection process of the military elites facilitates the deployment of practices of classification and distinction which weaken the stability of the hierarchical scale and generate new borders within the corps. Two fieldworks in a military school and in a regiment allowed us to study the practices of distinction between peers. Their characteristics are linked to the enhanced prestige of the officers corps engaged since 1945. They reveal contradictories registers of institutional evaluation whi;ch vacillate between the promotion of university qualifications and the defense of military specificity who refuse to be clearly indexed to them. Among officers, the "combat" capital governs the prestige system and conditionned the granting of honors and dishonors. But, first and foremost, the "warrior gesture" as well as the conquest of dominant institutional positions, mobilize social, linguistic and cultural capacities

Повний текст джерелаThe Army and religion are two institutions in which symbolic violence is exerted. Military women, like most other social agents practise religion. At the individual level, their religious practice is intertwined with the subjectivity of their own rapport with religion whereas, at the collective level, this religious practice stems from their cultural and institutional norms. This doctoral thesis aims to analyse the use of the religious device or religious recourse by military women in order to tackle symbolic violence. We have chosen a socio anthropological approach backed by a historical perspective to assess implications, mutations and « divides » of an institution that is presented as misogynist. Analyses were based on qualitative and quantitative surveys on the research field in France specifically in two military camps in the Region Rhône Alpes within two regiments and secondarily Great Britain. Religious subjectivity and cultural institutional practices of military women helped to highlight/stress the divides as well as the sham related to the mutations military women imposing on them a kind of a « cost » which compell military women to « bear the cost » of professional integration

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis studies the crises and reconfigurations of authority within the French am1y from 1954 to 1966. The Algerian war appears as the end point of many theoretical and practical writings aiming at endowing chiefs with initiatives and at establishing active submission on the part of soldiers. At the level of leadership, the Algerian war sanctions small chiefs' initiative that allows them to make their own rules. And yet, power relations are undermined by phenomena of competition between chiefs who fight between themselves to obtain honours and results. ln the context of a mass am1y many counter-power emerge to counter, cancel or sometimes collaborate with hierarchical authority. The soldiers become the cri tics of such practices and commit acts of resistance in the back of the hierarchy. By building on the TPF A of Constantine, we meticulously index and historicise the forms of disobedience recorded but we also describe the profiles of those who breached these power relations. These acts of disobedience are strong during the period of the beginning of the war between 1954 and 1957. During the high of the war (1957-1961), the acts of disobedience stay plenty but the sanctions only focus on the most serious cases thus giving the impression that they diminished. The end of the war ( 1961-1966), between the putsch and the departure of the French am1y, is marked by a crisis of discipline that leads to a series of reforms aiming at rebuilding the relations between the army and the citizen-soldiers
