Анотація:
Вивчено конструкцію, принцип роботи та характеристики автомата розливу та лінії в цілому. У магістерській дисертації виконано параметричні та кінематичні розрахунки. Виконано розрахунок пружини. З метою усунення недоліків автомата розливу а саме, малої швидкості розливу, складність конструкції вузла розливу, малої точності дозування було проведено патентно-літературний огляд конструкції. Результатом було обрано прототип конструкції розливного пристрою який розміщується безпосередньо у витратному резервуарі та має спрощену конструкцію, що дозволяє збільшити продуктивність та зменшити витрати на ремонт та обслуговування автомата в цілому. Для підтвердження модернізації було розроблено 3Д моделі в середовищі SolidWorks базового та модернізованого вузлів і проведений їх розрахунок в середовищі ANSYS. Також було виконано розділи: монтаж і експлуатація, автоматизація, охорона праці та було розроблено стартап-проект.
In the course of the Master's thesis, the technological line of bottling detergents in PET bottles was selected. The design, principle of operation and characteristics of the bottling machine and the line as a whole are studied. In the master's thesis parametric and kinematic calculations were performed. The spring was calculated. In order to eliminate the disadvantages of the dispenser, namely, the low speed of the spill, the complexity of the design of the spill node, low accuracy of dosing was conducted patent-literature review of the design. The result was a prototype design of the filling device, which is placed directly in the flow tank and has a simplified design, which allows to increase productivity and reduce the cost of repair and maintenance of the machine as a whole. To confirm the upgrade, 3D models were developed in the SolidWorks environment of the base and upgraded units, and their calculation was performed in the ANSYS environment. The following sections were also completed: installation and operation, automation, labor protection, and a startup project was developed.

The popularity of mixed flowers bouquets has increased in the cut flower industry. The longevity of mixed flowers bouquets is limited by the individual life of each flower in the bunch. Various factors have been studied for their effect on the individual life of each flower in mixed flowers bouquets. The results indicate that the differences in vase life of each flower in mixed bouquets may come from the influence of their phenotype. In cut rose flowers, there were various contents of fructose, glucose, sucrose and myo-inositol in all cultivars. However, levels of sugars contents were not related to the long-lived cultivars. For cut lily flowers, the contents of fructose, glucose and sucrose were measured in the primary and the secondary bud of ‘Tiber’ lilies. Differences in the contents of fructose, glucose and sucrose between the primary and secondary bud, did not relate to the longevity of individual bud life. However, this experiment found increases in sucrose contents in both positions before the time of opening. This increase in sucrose may relate to the role of the carbohydrate energy source for bud opening. Bacteria found in this study seemed to be largely specific to different flower types. Also, species of bacteria found in the vase water of mixed flowers were less than in that of single varieties. Difference in species of bacteria may be due to differences between plants, and the conditions they exert in the vase water. In general bacterial numbers were high at the beginning of all the experiments, indicating a strong inoculum effect from stems, although there was no straightforward relationship between stem numbers and inoculum size, in all cases. Experiments of single varieties were studied using ‘Tiber’ lily, ‘Akito’ rose and ‘Valentino’ rose. The results indicated that the addition of stems did not result in higher numbers of bacteria, but vase life was reduced, especially for the roses. The effect of number of stems in mixed flowers was investigated in distilled water and liquid flower food. The result of the addition of stems was to reduce the vase life of both ‘Tiber’ lily and ‘Akito’ rose. However, the effect of more stems of ‘Akito’ roses had a greater effect on vase life, fresh weight and water uptake than in ‘Tiber’ lilies. This indicated that ‘Akito’ roses had a greater response to high bacteria populations than lilies. The role of chemical exudates on flowers was not clear in the present study as they only had an effect during the early part of the vase life. The vase lives of ‘Tiber’ lilies and ‘Akito’ roses in all treatments were not significantly different. Perhaps treatment effects caused by the presence of chemical exudates may have been ‘masked’ by the presence of micro-organisms. The screening of 12 essential oils (West Indian bay, cinnamon leaf, clove bud, clove leaf, Chinese ginger, lemongrass, mandarin, rosemary, sage, spearmint, sweet fennel, and thyme) showed that thyme oil and lemongrass oil are effective against more bacterial species over other essential oils. The comparison of the minimal bactericide concentration (MBC) of thyme oil and lemongrass oil showed that the average MBC for thyme oil was lower than that of lemongrass. However, the thyme oil failed to extend the vase life of ‘Tiber’ lily and ‘Akito’ rose. Thyme oil was effective against bacteria for a very short time and could not extend vase life, especially that of the ‘Akito’ rose. Overall, thyme oil treatment appeared to reduce vase life. The efficacy of nine weak organic acids was studied in vivo for their effect on six bacterial species. Bacterial samples were inoculated on trypticase soya agar (TSA) pH 4 and 7. At pH 7, the TSA was prepared by using distilled water. All six bacteria species grew well under these conditions. The results of weak organic acids studied at pH 7 showed that Trans-cinnamic acid was the only weak organic acid that could act against some bacteria. At pH 4, only L8 (Bacillus spp.) could grow, and Trans- cinnamic acid was effective against this bacteria. The initial result of testing Trans- cinnamic acid against bacteria offered some promise for it to be applied successfully to the vase water of cut flowers, in combination with buffer systems.

The flower-like hierarchical architectures assembled from aniline oligomers by a template-free method are reported. They are important because of their close relation to a conducting polymer, polyaniline. Their formation process is ascribed to the self-assembly of oligoanilines under non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic forces, and π–π stacking. The model of directional growth is offered to explain the formation of petal-like objects and, subsequently, flowers. In order to investigate the chemical structure of the oligomers, a series of characterizations have been carried out, such as UV–visible, Fourier-transform infrared and Raman spectroscopies. Based on the results of characterization methods, a formation mechanism of the aniline oligomers and their self-assembly are proposed. The dynamics of different classes of turbulent and miscible fountains are stud- ied: from classic axisymmetric fountains issuing from round sources, to confined fountains propagating in a quasi-two-dimensional environment, to line fountains which form when release conditions are approximately two-dimensional at the source. Each class is characterised by distinct dynamical behaviour, which this the- sis analyses both through theoretical arguments and experimental measurements. A model for the entrainment of ambient fluid into a fluctuating fountain top is developed and implemented into a first complete description for round fountains. The solutions of the resulting 'three-region-model' lie in improved agreement with available data and, uniquely, do not diverge near the top of the fountain. Next, con- fined fountains (unexplored to date) are classified into four flow regimes and their behaviour collapsed according to a single governing parameter that captures the severity of confinement. Finally, new experiments on line foutains shed light on the quasi-steady structure of these flows, revealing (and motivating) a strong con- nection between their motion in the vertical and lateral planes. Round, confined and line fountains are then contrasted in the conclusions, where we reflect on what is required to progress towards a unified theory of turbulent fountains.

The urge to uncover aspects of human condition permeates my work, from the fundamental curiosity of a child tearing apart their doll to uncover what lies within to continuing a quest in uncovering basic human urges through my puppet animated dramas and tragedies. There is a controversial line between the childlike and the adult-like that can be ambiguous, and at some times more discernible while other times less. I create handcrafted stop-frame puppet animations that explore self-conscious emotions such as embarrassment, shame, and envy within unpredictable life scenarios. These are animations about inner life, attempting to resolve conflicting elements of the human psyche. At first glance, these puppets might appear scary, but upon closer observation the viewer may realize it is the puppet who is scared.

Un écoulement axisymétrique à une interface eau-air s’avère instable azimutalement. Durant cette thèse,nous avons mené deux expériences afin d’étudier ce point : (1) une petite fontaine subaquatique propulse un jet contre l’interface eau-air créant ainsi en surface un écoulement centrifuge radial; (2) une microbille chauffée par laser, en mouillage partiel à la surface de l’eau, engendre un écoulement thermocapillaire divergent. Lorsque la vitesse du jet ou la puissance du laser est suffisamment forte, il se produit une brisure de symétrie de l’écoulement torique initial en paires de vortex contrarotatifs entourant la source.Nous précisons les caractères morphologiques du tore ainsi que du dipôle par le biais d’expériences de tomographie laser et d’injection de colorant. Dans l’expérience du jet d’eau, nous montrons que la taille du tore est essentiellement déterminée par la distance séparant l’injecteur de la surface. Dans les deux expériences, un état "bloqué" de l’interface en régime toroïdal mais "débloqué" en régime dipolaire est mis en évidence par suivi de traceurs. Ce type de phénomène est piloté par l’élasticité de surface. Une preuve convaincante est la réponse élastique, à l’extinction du laser, de la couche de surfactants adsorbés à l’interface. Le principal intérêt de ce travail est de mettre en avant le rôle – clé que joue l’élasticité interfaciale dans le scénario de l’instabilité. D’un point de vue théorique, nous étudions la convection thermocapillaire induite par une source fixe ponctuelle à l’interface eau-air. Nous résolvons l’équation de Stokes incompressible au sein du demi – espace contenant le liquide et déterminons la solution exacte du problème advectif, non-linéaire, dans le régime axisymétrique en limite de champ lointain. Enfin, nous posons les bases sur lesquelles élaborer une théorie de l’instabilité. Ce travail de thèse devrait permettre de comprendre comment une petite sphère chaude à la surface de l’eau déclenche le type d’instabilité étudié ici, devenant de ce fait une "particule active" capable de s’autopropulser à grande vitesse
Axisymmetric flows on a water-air interface prove to be azimuthally unstable. In this thesis work, we design two setups to explore this fact : (1) a small subaquatic fountain propelling a jet against the water-air interface where it creates a centrifugal radial flow, (2) a laser – heated microbead in partial wetting at the surface of water that induces a divergent thermocapillary flow. At sufficiently high jet speeds or laser powers appears a symmetry – breaking of the toroidal base flow in the form of counter – rotating vortex pairs surrounding the source. Morphological traits of the torus and the dipole are uncovered through a wealth of laser tomography and dye injection experiments. In the water jet experiment, we show that the torus size is primarily fixed by the distance between the injector and the surface. In both experiments,the tracking of tracer particles evidences a ‘locked’ interface in the toroidal regime, whereas it ‘unlocks’ when a dipole sets in. Such a phenomenon is conditioned by surface elasticity. Cogent evidence is brought by the elastic response to laser shutdown of a surfactant layer adsorbed at the water surface. Unveiling the key role of surface elasticity in the scenario of the instability is the main achievement of this work.On a theoretical level, we focus on thermocapillary convection induced by a fixed point source of heat sitting across the water-air interface. We solve the incompressible Stokes equation within the water – filled half – space and derive an exact solution to the advective nonlinear regime in the far – field axisymmetric limit. We then lay the groundwork on which to build a model of the instability. This thesis work paves the way for understanding how a hot microsphere found on the water surface triggers such an instability, thereby becoming an ‘active particle’ able to achieve self – propulsion at large speeds

Content: Polyacrylate as film-forming materials has been widely used in leather finishing, but its compactness significantly obstructs the hygienic property of upper leather. Therefore, considerable efforts have been made to endow polyacrylate with required properties. In this study, we demonstrated a facile and rapid sonochemical process to synthesis the flower-like ZnO nanostructures. The related morphology and structure of product were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Meanwhile, flower-like ZnO were introduced into the polyacrylate matrix by physical blending method, whose morphology, latex stability, water vapor permeability and water resistance were measured. The results showed that flower-like ZnO assembled by ellipsoid-like nanorods with the length of about 600 nm was successfully fabricated. The sizes of flower-like ZnO were 1.2 μm. According to SEM images, flower-like ZnO evenly dispersed were observed in composite matrix. Compared with pure polyacrylate, polyacrylate/flower-like ZnO composites exhibited the superior stability. Meanwhile, its water vapor permeability and water resistancewere increased by 52.91% and 53.13%, severally. The reason for this is that ZnO with rough structure can increase voids in polyacrylate film and thus improving hygienic property of polyacrylate film. Additionally, the hydrophilic groups on surface of ZnO can product the crosslinking with polyacrylate chains, which contributed to the enhancement of water resistance. Thus, a promising coating with hygienic property and water resistance for leather finishing agent was approved. Take-Away: 1. Polyacrylate/flower-like ZnO composites exhibited excellent hygienic property. 2. This composite coating achieves simultaneous enhancement in water vapor permeability and water resistance. 3. The morphology of ZnO can effect the properties of polyacrylate.

Allopolyploids are formed by interspecific hybridization and whole genome duplication, with the resulting organism contains multiple distinct subgenomes in one nucleus. Subgenomic interactions result in massive genetic and epigenetic reconstruction, contributing to variable phenotypic traits noted in newly formed allopolyploids. To better understand these mechanisms in the context of molecular biology, evolution, and plant breeding, plant biologists study the model organism Brassica napus (farmed as canola or oilseed rape). With white-flowering and yellow-flowering progenitors, flower color phenotype of B. napus presents an opportunity to examine subgenomic interactions. CAROTENOID CLEAVAGE DIOXYGENASE 4 (CCD4) is known to play a major role in determining flower color phenotype of carotenoid-synthesizing angiosperms. Here, we investigate the genetic and epigenetic role of CCD4 orthologs and their role in flower color phenotype of B. napus.

Resumo: A proteína FEZ1 foi caracterizada inicialmente como um ortólogo da proteína UNC76 de C. elegans, responsável pelo desenvolvimento e fasciculação neuronal nesse verme. Estudos subsequentes demonstraram sua atuação em processos de desenvolvimento neuronal, polarização celular, mecanismos de transporte associado à kinesinas e transporte de vesículas e mitocôndrias. Outros trabalhos demonstraram que a superexpressão de FEZ1 interfere no ciclo de vida de alguns tipos de vírus como HIV e JCV. FEZ1 é capaz de interagir com mais de 51 proteínas diferentes, e participa em muitos processos celulares. Observamos que FEZ1 apresenta ausência de estrutura molecular rígida, sendo pertencente à classe das natively unfolded proteins, e é capaz de formar dímeros em solução. Essa observação condiz com sua extrema capacidade de interagir com muitas proteínas diferentes. A capacidade de FEZ1 interagir com outras proteínas é influenciada pela fosforilação da sua região C-terminal por diferentes isoformas de PKC. FEZ1 interage e colocaliza com NEK1 e com CLASP2 em células de mamífero, em uma região candidata ao centrossomo. Essas interações são dependentes da região coiled-coil presente na parte C-terminal de FEZ1, e ocorrem em regiões coiled-coil de CLASP2 e NEK1. A interação com CLASP2 é rompida quando FEZ1 é fosforilada por PKC. A superexpressão de FEZ1 causa o fenótipo flower like observado em células de alguns tipos de leucemia. Nós observamos que FEZ1 interage e colocaliza com a e ?-tubulinas e que a formação desse fenótipo em células HEK293 ocorre devido a uma alteração na organização dos microtúbulos causada pelo excesso de FEZ1. A formação do fenótipo flower like é influenciada por ativação das vias de PKC e PI3K. Os dados obtidos durante o nosso trabalho indicam que FEZ1 é uma proteína intrinsecamente desenovelada, que atua em processos celulares associados ao citoesqueleto e centrossomo em conjunto com NEK1 e CLASP2, e que defeitos em sua regulação, possivelmente pelas vias de PKC ou PI3K, causam alteração da organização dos microtúbulos originando núcleos flower like.
Abstract: FEZ1 was identified first as a orthologue of C elegans UNC-76 protein, that plays functions related to neuronal development in this worm. Subsequent studies, shows FEZ1 functions in neuronal development process, cell polarization, transport mechanisms associated to kinesins and vesicular and mitochondrial transports. Other works showed that FEZ1 superexpression interfere in the life cycle of some viral types such as HIV and JCV. FEZ1 is able to interact with more than 51 different proteins and participates in several cellular processes. We observed that FEZ1 has a mobile molecular structure, is a member of the natively unfolded protein class, and can form dimers in solution. This observation is in agreement with its capacity to interact with a large number of different proteins. The capacity of FEZ1 to interact with other proteins is influenced by different PKC isoforms phosphorylation in its C-terminal region. FEZ1 interacts and co-localizes with NEK1 and CLASP2 in a centrossomal candidate region of mammalian cells. These interactions are dependent of a coiled coil inside the C-terminal region of FEZ1, and occur in dependence of coiled coil regions of NEK1 and CLASP2. The interaction between FEZ1 and CLASP2 is abolished after FEZ1 phosphorylation by PKC. The FEZ1 overexpression causes the flower like phenotype observed in cells of some leukemias. We observed that FEZ1 interacts and co-localizes with _ and _-tubulins and that the phenotype formation in HEK293 cells is mediated by an atypical organization of microtubule spindles, caused by overexpression of FEZ1. The flower like phenotype formation is influenced by activation of PKC and PI3K pathways. The data generated by our work indicate that FEZ1 is an intrinsically unfolded protein, that works in cellular processes associated to the cytoskeleton in conjunct with NEK1 and CLASP2, and that defects in its regulation, maybe via the PKC or PI3K pathways, causes alterations in microtubule organization and formation of the "flower like" nuclei.

Khovanov homology and Heegaard Floer homology have opened new horizons in knot theory and three-manifold topology, respectively. The two invariants have distinct origins, but the Khovanov homology of a link is related to the Heegaard Floer homology of its branched double cover by a spectral sequence constructed by Ozsváth and Szabó. In this thesis, we construct an equivalent spectral sequence with a much more transparent connection to Khovanov homology. This is the first step towards proving Seed and Szabó's conjecture that Szabó's geometric spectral sequence is isomorphic to Ozsváth and Szabó's spectral sequence. These spectral sequences connect information about contact structures contained in each invariant. We construct a braid conjugacy class invariant κ from Khovanov homology by adapting Floer-theoretic tools. There is a related transverse invariant which we conjecture to be effective. The conjugacy class invariant solves the word problem in the braid group among other applications. We have written a computer program to compute the invariant

What is the connection between people and the landscape that surrounds them? How do changes in that landscape affect social life? This study of a dual-sited village community in southern Manggarai (eastern Indonesia) argues that places and pathways are crucially implicated in the constitution of persons and social relationships. Manggarai life takes place within a complex and contested 'landscape' of kinship and history, in which state policies and religious conversion are leading people to reinterpret traditional notions of growth, fertility and the land. In considering this landscape, the study connects literature on the southeast Asian 'House' with the analysis of transformative journeys, and descriptions of village layout and sacred geography with the ethnography of family intimacy. Rooms are shown to be central to the constitution of households and notions of siblingship, whilst ordinary houses are egalitarian collections of rooms, and sites of ritual remembering. Clan identity is embodied in the drum house, but the significance of this 'House' as a social institution is changing under the influence of state cultural politics. Marriage is conceptualised as creating 'paths' of relatedness, and individual alliance connections are maintained by emotional journeys along these paths. Within origin villages, named fields and sacred, stone platforms are potent signs both in and of history, but their absence in recently settled villages contributes to the ritual 'emptiness' of these sites. History is also revealed in the landscape through topogenies that relate ancestral journeys from place to place, and through the growth of seedling villages. However, recent histories have created new interpretations of this landscape. In particular, people engage with their community's division between a highland site and a lowland, satellite village by 'swinging' between the power of 'the outside', and the authority of the centred, ancestral interior.

Cette dernière décennie a connu un engouement fort pour les microflores complexes particulièrement pour les flores associées symbiotiquement à leur hôte comme les flores du tractus digestif. Les flores digestives ouvrent en effet de nombreuses opportunités tant sur le plan médical que sur les plans industriel et biotechnologique. Dans ce manuscrit, sont présentés divers travaux sur les flores digestives de Galliformes : étude du mode d'action des antibiotiques en tant que facteurs de croissance chez le poulet, recherche de substitutifs aux antibiotiques chez le poulet et recherche d'un putatif pathogène des entérites non spécifiques chez la dinde. Ont également été développés dans cet écrit de nouveaux outils utiles à l'identification bactérienne. Une nouvelle technique de criblage de clones, nommée CSbyDG, basée sur une discrimination de profiles DGGE à trois bandes, a prouvée son efficacité à cribler des banques de clones d'ADNr 16S. Pour permettre le regroupement des profiles obtenus en CSbyDG, un programme informatique codé en Visual Basic Application pour Excel a été développé. Ce programme, nommé ProReg XL Tool, est à même de regrouper des profiles électrophorétiques identiques. Ses domaines d'applications sont donc beaucoup plus larges que le seul regroupement de profiles de CSbyDG. A terme, la CSbyDG devrait permettre, par différents portages, d'identifier une bactérie en quelques heures.

Forecast and estimation on transmission line losses is a vital task in the daily operation and planning of the Swedish power system. The aim with this thesis is to design a new line loss prediction model at Svenska kraftnät (Svk), which provides a hourly forecast of the transmission line losses the next day for the Swedish bidding areas (SE1-SE4). The final goal is to reduce the additional cost related to inaccurate predictions. The developed model is based on regression analysis on historical line losses and estimated exchange flows between the adjacent bidding areas computed by linear programming. Simulation results for 2015 show that it is, with rather simple estimates and assumptions, possible to increase the prediction accuracy with up to 27% compared with the existing method and to reduce the related costs in a similar way. The study also shows that future modelling has potential to increase the precision even further and recommends a Neural Network approach as the next step.
Prognoser och estimering av stamnätsförluster är en central del i den dagliga driften av det svenska kraftsystemet. Den här uppsatsen har därför syftat till att utveckla en simuleringsmodell som ger en timvisprognos över morgondagens förluster i varje elområde (SE1-SE4). Detta verktyg är senare tänkt att precisera den dagliga upphandlingen av förluster och därmed minska kostnaden kopplad till osäkra prognoser. Den utvecklade modellen bygger på en regressionsanalys av tidigare uppmätta förluster och uppskattade transmissionsflöden mellan de närliggande elområdena beräknad med linjär programmering. Simulerignar för 2015 visar att, det med föhrhållandesvis enkla antaganden och uppskattningar av indata, går att precisera förlusterna med uppemot 27% jämfört med dagens prognos och därmed minska kostnaderna i liknande omfattning. Studien visar också att förbättringspotentialen är stor och rekommende-rar fortsatta studier utifrån en Neurala Nätverk modell.

Este trabalho aborda o problema de programação da produção em um flexible flow line com tempos de setup. De acordo com a literatura, este ambiente pode ser considerado como um caso especial do Flow Shop com múltiplas máquinas, onde as tarefas podem saltar estágios. Neste estudo, foram analisados dois problemas: o primeiro, com tempos de setup independentes da sequência, e o segundo, com setup dependente da sequência de tarefas. Além disso, o setup das máquinas para as tarefas pode ser antecipado ou não. No primeiro caso, as máquinas de um estágio podem ser preparadas para o processamento de uma tarefa antes do seu término no estágio anterior. Se o setup não pode ser antecipado, a tarefa deve esperar o seu término no estágio de produção anterior. Este ambiente produtivo pode ser encontrado em um vasto número de indústrias tais como química, eletrônica, automotiva e têxtil. A medida de desempenho dos problemas é a duração total da programação (makespan). Este é um critério apropriado para sistemas de produção com grandes cargas de trabalho e em que a utilização dos recursos produtivos em longo prazo deve ser otimizada. O exame da literatura mostrou que há poucos estudos abordando a programação em flexible flow line. Considerando este aspecto, este trabalho apresenta heurísticas construtivas originais para a obtenção de programações apropriadas ao problema mencionado. Uma extensiva experimentação computacional foi executada para avaliar o desempenho relativo das heurísticas. Os resultados experimentais foram analisados e discutidos.
This work addresses the job scheduling on a flexible flow line with separate setup times. According to the literature, this scheduling problem can be considered as a special case of the Flow Shop with multiple machines, where the jobs may skip stages. Two modeled problems have been studied. In the first scheduling problem the setup times are sequence independent, and in the second one these times are sequence dependent. Moreover, the machine setup task can be either anticipatory or non-anticipatory. In the first case, a k-stage machine may be prepared for a job processing before its completion on the k-1 production stage. Otherwise, the setup task must wait for the job completion on the former production stage. This production environment can be found in a number of industries such as chemicals, electronics, automotive, and textiles. The performance measure of the production schedules is the makespan, that is, the total time to complete the schedule. This is an appropriate performance criterion for production systems with large workloads, and where the utilization of productive resources in the long term should be optimized. The literature examination has shown that there is a small number of studies dealing with flexible flow line scheduling. Having this in mind, this work introduces original constructive heuristics in order to obtain suitable schedules for the aforementioned scheduling problem. An extensive computational experience has been carried out in order to evaluate the relative performance of the heuristics. Experimental results are discussed.

Specialization on insect and animal pollinators is thought to be the driving force for the evolution of floral traits. Specifically in the New World (NW), the oil-bee pollination syndrome has led to the convergence of floral characters in two distantly related families of core eudicots, Malpighiaceae and Krameriaceae. Both families display a flag-like structure that establishes a zygomorphic flower and floral oil rewards in epithelial elaiophores. These traits work concomitantly to attract and reward female oil-bees that help fertilize these flowers and in return receive oils. The underlying genetics of floral zygomorphy were studied in several clades of core eudicots, which implicated CYCLOIDEA2-(CYC2-)like genes of the TCP gene family to play a role in the establishment and maintenance of this trait. In Malpighiaceae, previous work demonstrated that two CYC2-like genes, CYC2A and CYC2B, are expressed during development correlated with establishing zygomorphy in flowers of NW Malpighiaceae. In this thesis work, I investigated the underlying developmental and genetic basis for the establishment of non-homologous and yet functionally similar traits in the oil-bee pollinated flowers of Malpighiaceae and Krameriaceae. In Chapter 1, I investigated the modification of a conserved CYC2 genetic program in the Old World (OW) acridocarpoids of Malpighiaceae following a major biogeographic disjunction. And in Chapter 2, I studied the floral ontogeny and genetic basis of floral zygomorphy development in Krameria lanceolata Torrey of Krameriaceae. This thesis work sheds light on the significance of the interdisciplinary study of floral symmetry evolution through comparative pollination ecology, development, and genetics.

Typical building sanitary lines are sloped at a minimum of 1/8” to utilize gravity and prevent liquid separation from solid waste. The purpose of this research is to analyze how a lesser amount of water from a 1.6 gallon per flush water closet affects drainage in a four inch diameter pipe at 1/4" slope. Low flow water closet manufacturers ensure that waste clears the bowl, but there is no significant research following the flushed water further down the pipe line. This research utilizes a 1.6 gallon per flush floor-mounted water closet connected to 30 feet of sloped four inch PVC Drain Waste Vent piping. Data presented from 25 flush trials indicates that further research needs to be conducted at a smaller pipe diameter. Four-inch piping is too large, causing the 1.6 gallons of water to quickly lose the required force over the course of 30 feet, resulting in pipe line clogs. An average of four additional water-only flushes are necessary to completely clear the test media and toilet paper from the pipe. This research references previously published research and focuses on test results presented by the Plumbing Efficiency Research Coalition. Two case studies of city wide replacements of old water closets are presented to discuss the viability of city wide mandates in relation to water conservation.

Le sujet de cette thèse est l’interprétation de documents structurés, tels que les partitions musicales, les schémas électriques, etc. , dessinés à l’aide d’un crayon sur une surface sensitive. Nous nous basons sur une interprétation à la volée des tracés manuscrits, c’est-à-dire au fur et à mesure de leur ajout au document, et affichons un retour visuel correspondant à l’utilisateur. Nous présentons la méthode DALI. Son premier concept est une nouvelle classe de grammaires visuelles, qui permet la modélisation de documents structurés et du positionnement relatif des symboles qui le constituent. Son second concept est l’analyseur de tracés manuscrits associé à ces grammaires. Il exploite la connaissance formalisée ainsi que l’interaction avec l’utilisateur pour prendre la décision la plus cohérente. Les résultats de cette thèse ont permis la conception du logiciel Script&Go "Schémas Electriques", aujourd’hui commercialisé et utilisé quotidiennement par une centaine de techniciens
The subject of this PhD thesis is the interpretation of structured documents, such as musical scores, electrical sketches, etc. , drawn with a pen on a sensitive surface. We exploit on-the-fly interpretation of hand-drawn strokes, i. E. Progressively, as they are added to the document, and provide a visual feedback to the user. We present the DALI method. Its first concept is a new class of visual grammars: its permits to model structured documents and the relative positioning of the symbols it contains. Le second concept is the hand-drawn stroke parser associated to these grammars. It exploits the formalized knowledge and the interaction with the user to make the most sensible decision. The result of these works have been used to design the Script&Go “Electrical Sketches” application which is already commercialized and used daily by a hundred of technicians

Void fraction is an essential parameter for understanding the interfacial structure, and heat and mass transfer mechanisms in various gas-liquid flow systems. It becomes critically important to accurately measure void fraction as advanced high fidelity two-phase flow models require high-quality validation data. However, void fraction measurement remains a challenging task to date due to the complexity and rapid-changing characteristic of the gas-liquid boundary flow structure. This study aims to develop an advanced void fraction measurement system based on x-ray and fast line detector technologies. The dissertation has covered the major components necessary to develop a complete measurement system. Spectral analysis of x-ray attenuation in two-phase flow has been performed, and a new void fraction model is developed based on the analysis. The newly developed pixel-to-radial conversion algorithm is capable of converting measured void fraction along with the detector array to the radial distribution in a circular pipe for a wide range of void fraction conditions. The x-ray system attains the radial distributions of key measurable factors such as void fraction and gas velocity. The data are compared with the double-sensor conductivity probe and gas flowmeter for various flow conditions. The results show reasonable agreements between the x-ray and the other measurement techniques. Finally, various 2-D tomography algorithms are implemented for the non-axisymmetric two-phase flow reconstruction. A comprehensive summary of classical absorption tomography for the two-phase flow study is provided. An in-depth sensitivity study is carried out using synthetic bubbles, aiming to investigate the effect of various uncertainty factors such as background noise, off-center shift, void profile effect, etc. The sensitivity study provides a general guideline for the performance of existing 2-D reconstruction algorithms.

Gas-liquid flow phenomenon exists in an extensive range of natural and engineering systems, for example, hydraulic pipelines in a nuclear reactor, heat exchanger, pump cavitation, and boilers in the gas-fired power stations. Accurate measurement of the void fraction is essential to understand the behaviors of the two-phase flow phenomenon. However, measuring void fraction distribution in two-phase flow is a difficult task due to its complex and fast-changing interfacial structure. This study developed a comprehensive suite of the non-intrusive x-ray measurement techniques, and a pixel-to-radial conversion algorithm to process the line- and time-averaged void fraction information. The newly developed algorithm, called the Area-based Onion-Peeling (ABOP) method, can convert the pixel measurement to the radial void fraction distribution, which is more useful for studying and modeling axisymmetric flows. Various flow conditions are measured and evaluated for the benchmarking of the algorithm. Finally, classical 2-D reconstruction algorithms are investigated for the void fraction measurement in non-axisymmetric flows. A comprehensive summary of the performance of these algorithms for a two-phase flow study is provided. An in-depth sensitivity study using synthetic bubbles has been performed to examine the effect of uncertainty factors and to benchmark the algorithms for the non-axisymmetric flows.

Just like any other traditional paintings in Chinese, the form of meticulous Detailed flower and bird painting is changing by the influence of western art. Form objective to subjective, individualism dominants its’ format, topic, skill and materials. The drawings and the colors of traditional bird paintings can actually be changed. The author, except for inheriting the tradition and pursuing the real world under the bird paintings, which are his motivation of researching and creating, he is also finding an innovative way of express. As for traditional bird paintings, they record the reality based on the observation of mother nature, and transform the natural objects to lifelike images. To search for an anti-traditional form, the author has captured the flowers’ images, looking for the color changes of plants in the environmental changes. He also analyzed the contour and colors between similar, representative works of past dynasties, and then tried to draw with Chinese brush, which can create arbitrary lines. There are five chapters in this thesis. The first chapter, the introduction, describes the motivation, purpose, content and methods of the study. Chinese bird paintings originates from humans trying to draw the natural beings in the aboriginal environment based on their impression. After civilization, people have come to paint flowers and birds on the processed household utensils, which are the beginning of bird paintings. During Tang and Song Dynasties, the invention of brushes and papers, coming along with better pigment and processing skills, bird paintings gradually became a sizable and systematic art. It had even been specifically introduced in the theory of paintings, inheriting the different ways, forms and skills from past to present. In this chapter, the author also picked 4 kinds of brushes, along with other non-writing instruments, to analyze the discrepancy when they are being drawn on different papers. In chapter two, the author, before he started to create work, was studying the drawing method of bird paintings through different Chinese dynasties. He found that there are relation and commonality between the bird paintings and the eighteen-drawing methods, concluded in Ming Dynasty, used in the portraits of Han and Tang Dynasties. That is, the eighteen-drawing methods can be used in both portrait and bird painting, but the manipulation of brushstroke, traditionally, is limited in the center and the side of the brush. The author was also trying to break the tradition while searching a new way of line drawing. Looking back the theory of coloring in different Chinese Dynasties, the author found that Chinese artists tend to paint depending on the species, and this way also become the coloring foundation in thousands of years. But, in the reality, the color of plants will change relying on various factors, such as time, place, temperature, and soil. The author also spent lots of time discovering the true color of different plants in Taiwan, and proved the fact, which is the essence of gene, that the color of some plants will be changed by the environment. At the end, he quoted the saying of European impressionists of 19th century, hoping to create work with a brand new coloring perspective. In chapter three, the works of famous Chinese bird painters were introduced. To make readers easily compare and observe the difference of techniques, such as brushstroke, molding, coloring, in past dynasties, all related works were partially enlarged. Furthermore, the author also emphasized on the changes of bird paintings after contemporary Chinese artists being influenced by western art, and partially enlarged these changes in the pictures. After the comparison between modern and tradition, the author then analyzed the line drawing of objects to apply on his creation. Chapter four describes about the ideas and explanation of creation. After studying Buddhism for years, the author noticed that the status of plants and flowers are usually being ignored by humans, who focus on animals more. But, as a Buddhism saying goes, “Having emotion or not, all creatures are equal.” Plants, which are also living creatures, change their appearance by seasons. For thousands of years, flowers growing in wilderness gradually convert to food and the decoration of household goods, making our lives become more colorful and interesting. To illustrate the outward changes of flowers, including the inward meaning of their lives, the author reduced his creation to four parts. The first part is life, depicting the beginning and the end of flowers. The second part, discoloring, expressing the emotions of flowers. The third part, wearing, is another way of expression by applying flower images on women accessories. The forth part, surrealism, redistributing the position of objects to make the pictures more like a story or a fable. Chapter five, epilogue, reviewing the process of painting and writing to scheme the future guidelines of creation.

Previously seed coat color in flax has been used as a phenotypic marker for specialty quality traits and currently there is an increasing demand to use seed coat color in flax to market flax for human and animal nutrition uses. Seed coat color was studied to 1) understand the inheritance of seed coat color conditioned by the b1 locus, to 2) understand the relationship of other important flax traits with seed coat color as well as to 3) identify markers that are linked to seed coat color for future marker assisted selection of seed coat color. Spearman’s rank correlation and an allelism test was used to show the inheritance of the alleles at the b1 locus. Bulked segregant analysis (BSA) was used to identify putatively linked markers with the b1 locus, these were then screened on the CDC Bethune x M96006 recombinant inbred line population. Furthermore, the CDC Bethune x M96006 and CDC Bethune x USDA-ARS Crystal recombinant inbred line populations were used to identify any important flax traits that had a significant relationship with seed coat color. It was shown that seed coat color conditioned by the b1 locus was stably inherited and that b1vg and b1 are allelic to one another. The results of the BSA showed that there were 17 candidates for linkage but when these markers were screened on the population only the Lu456 from linkage group (LG) six was identified to have linkage (χ²=3.90; P<0.05) with the b1 locus. Additionally, it was shown that the b1 seed coat color allele of the b1 locus had a pleiotropic effect on flower color and flower shape and that seed coat color was associated with linolenic fatty acid content. None of the traits examined were found to be associated with the b1vg allele of this locus. These results show that the b1 locus is likely present on linkage group six, more marker coverage on linkage group six of markers that are polymorphic between the two seed coat color parents would increase the accuracy of detection. Lastly, this study showed that plant breeders should consider using the b1vg allele that conditions the variegated seed coat color to mark unique lines with important combinations of traits because it sorted independently for seed quality traits. Whereas, the yellow seed coat color conditioned by the b1 allele was found to be associated with higher linolenic fatty acid content and the semi-lethality of this allele would make it not suitable for use in parental lines.

This writing record of “Flower of Life " dance drama creation concept is presented in the form of modern dance creation and theater performance. The whole performance is based on the "Taiwan Land Birth" as the main axis of development. Eight unique poems of Taiwanese contemporary poetry are used to dance, showing that this land of Taiwan nourishes female poets. Distinctive and delicate emotions, and interpret the reflections of life in different generations. The dance is about the encounter of "Poetry-Dance- Song". It emphasizes the cross-border cooperation of the three "mutually the main body". Through the dance carrier, it reveals its real world of more yuan, and the dance method of the micro-ends. Like the distribution on the veins, like the distribution of body muscles, it is expected to cause more feminine cultural vibrations. The first chapter is written through the origin of the Creation “Flower of Life " and combs the process and evolution of Choreographer’s creation all the way. The second chapter discusses the creative concept of the whole dance drama of “Flower of Life ". The third chapter is to explore the concept and presentation of choreography in each piece of work. The fourth chapter is about how the stage aesthetics constructed by the Choreographer can be realized through cooperation with artists in various fields. The fifth chapter is the conclusion. Through the creative process and Performance production implementation of two major aspects of the review and reflection, hoping that the dance for the future will have the possibility of re-development, and hope to the Hakka art and culture to make a modest contribution.

I had lived in Hakka village for 20 years. The characteristics of Hakka folk life and cultural rituals, I think the most pleasing is Hakka dish flower, it is a daily present. It has been doing this decades for many years, Hakka people still followed it .And we called "dish flower" .There are flowers everywhere and are easily available for decoration by Hakka. Year by year, dish flower, becomes not only a hobby or custom, but the symbol of diligent people and their elegant living. In this study, I use fieldwork and interviews to explore Liudui located in Hakka customs and also records of photographing real things in Liudui. Traditional dish flower imply a great deal of cultural concepts and ideas, where the cultural origins inherit traditional Chinese philosophy , its cultural connotations a concept of expressions in the pursuit of harmony and unity between man and nature, promotion throughout Confucian ethics and a pray for the residence and peace of family and home.

This book explored by modern ink painting of flowers and birds, line-oriented structure and other spiritual value of life. Finally, in the practical process of creation and mind exploration, my personally value and significance of the existence of life are presented in ink and other media. The symbolism and metaphor stories are interpreted to construct my individual thinking and a deep personal manifestations spiritual meaning via language of painting. Related research framework consists of six chapters, hereby described as follows: The first chapter, indicating my creative motivation and objectives, methods and scope of the term structure of interpretation and history. Chapter theoretical foundation, from existentialism, the meaning and value of life to explore ink image "Life figure." Chapter manifestations to survey, analyze line structure from the Eastern and Western paintings, to understand the emotional vocabulary. Chapter by personal life experiences and emotional expression, media and techniques to explore the use of ink flowers "micro" and "transform" process of creation. Chapter interpretation works for description and analysis work. Chapter VI Conclusions through review, to establish the meaning and value of contributions, as well as future works of creation. Finally, the author through continuous reflection and construction process, identify the unique appearance of their own creation, as well as the existence of life to explore the value of the final answer.

The reason that I decided to use “floral presentations” as the common theme for my artwork was that I started to develop a disease when I was 29 years old. For some reason, I could not straighten my knees, and my legs felt weak and shaky. Slowly I lost my mobility and have had difficulty getting about since then. The concept of my art creation is associated with “Odes to Chrysanthemums”, a series of poems in Dream of the Red Chamber (a classic Chinese novel). In these poems, chrysanthemums reflect a poet’s specific emotions in life. The varied colors, shapes, and contours of these flowers are fascinating in the eyes of a poet, although they are also symbolic of melancholy. In literati paintings, flowers serve as a metaphor for a person’s character. In modern life, flowers are used as a medium to express one’s wishes and blessings. Each flower has a symbol of its own in literary works, which is known as the flower meaning. When engaged in creating art, I have been deeply influenced by two female artists. Frida Kahlo,1907-1954 impressed me with her determination to fight against illness and pain via paintings about her life story, whereas Georgia Totto O’Keeffe,1887-1986 taught me how to express my thoughts and emotions through paintings. Moreover, I tried to adopt a viewpoint based on Carl Gustav Juug,1875-1961 dream interpretation, so as to see the outer self from the inner mind. In other words, I have examined myself and faced the most genuine “self” through my own art creation. Furthermore, I hope to incorporate my own life experience into these therapeutic inner journeys by creating a series of “hands” monotype art prints, after the floral monotype art prints, since there are so many warm hands that have reached out to support and help me in my life’s journey. The series of “hands” monotype art prints would express my innermost gratitude toward life and the world.

Abstract Nanomaterials hold great potential to be photovoltaic, electronic, magnetic, and biosensing materials because their unique electric, magnetic, and optical properties. This thesis demonstrated several synthetic strategies for the preparation of rod-, flower-, and cube-like nanomaterials, including Au-Ag and Au-Ag-Hg nanorods (NRs), Au and Ag nanoflowers (NFs), Fe3O4/Au composite nanomaterials, and Cu2O nanocubes. The preparations of Au-Ag and Au-Ag-Hg NRs were based on the deposition of Au, Ag, and Hg atoms that are reduced by ascorbate on the surface of gold NRs under alkaline conditions. Au and Ag NFs were synthesized through the use of a wet chemical method in aqueous solution. Initially the Au or Ag atoms are deposited on Au or Ag nanoparticles (NPs) to form single petals, upon which other petals are formed subsequently at their termini as a result of deposition of Au or Ag atoms. This process repeats until the flower-like nanostructures. Fe3O4/Au composite nanomaterials are grew through deposition of Au atoms on the Fe3O4 NPs (51.5 ± 10.5 nm) under similar conditions for preparation of Au NFs. Cu2O nanocubes with a band gap ~ 2.42 eV were prepared from cupric nitrate in alkaline aqueous solutions containing fructose and ascorbic acid at room temperature. Au-Ag and Au-Ag-Hg NRs having aspect ratios 1.90-4.10 and 2.89-4.10, respectively, possess high extinction coefficients (5.02 × 109 ~ 4.73 × 1010 M-1cm-1) in the UV-vis region. Au and Ag NFs have strong absorptions in the UV-vis and near-IR region and high electronic conductivities (1.97

Life of ceramic utterance and flower fragrances- Creation study and fulfillment of ceramic flower containers of Chen Hsiu-Jung Abstract       This research aims to create ceramic flower containers fit for modern living space. First it introduces ceramic flower containers through literary review, then it goes into art creation and work analysis. The ceramic flower containers are designed according to minimalism and to emphasize surface textures. Thus, after combining the works with plants together can concisely demonstrate art and nature in surroundings. In the hope that through the aesthetic managing and the company of art, the discomfort and anxiety of life can be transformed and eased, and can also energize our bodies, souls and spirits to achieve health maintenance function.   This art creation plans to integrate minimalism with texture in ceramic flower containers. From the works, it shows that single color glazing could better display textures of the works than the mixed color glazing. Furthermore, thick glazing is not recommended as this technique could blur the work surface and cover the surface textures. It is also not recommended to show too many textures in the same surface as to distract our attentions. The goal of this design is to use Minimalism to simplify the works to unity that can make even better display of surface textures. This creation research is designed under minimalism with texture and then arrange the creation works and plants to be exhibited as a whole. The ceramic flower containers are designed to embody the main concepts of modern Minimalism , simplification and merging. It enables viewers to appreciate the clear beauty of the ceramic flower containers and plants. The viewers can enjoy the peaceful and quiet atmosphere within. Profoundly painting comes from the thing I familiar with. A vivid drawing relies on the topic I have been touched. Flower painting, which is different from speaking language, is the way I decided to express my inner self and value system. Through calligraphy of traditional Chinese painting and instructor guidance, I am able to turn the nature spirit into my inspiration of my creative work. During the time of painting material understanding and practicing: spot, segment, surface and color, I have learned the practical skill to express my drawing concept. Flower it seems, as my topic, depicts the vicissitudes of life. As same as the lesson learning from life that always follow the unforgettable experience, flowers in each season have their own characters of blooming. Therefore the assortment of flowers is well considered in order to respond the “Life is short and time is swift”. On the other hand, flower painting also gives unique result when using different material or paper. In this graduation work, I focus on inks and basic color. This graduation work, Flower it seems, is aim to demonstrate the metaphor and projection of flower painting. This graduation work consists six chapters. The Chapter one of this work mainly describes the motivation of creative work, proposal and practical method. Chapter two starts with the connection between flower painting and my personality. The resource of painting inspiration is also described in this chapter. Chapter three will discuss the process of painting work accomplishment, including professor’s instruction, calligraphy of traditional Chinese painting, and sketch in the outfield as well. And the next chapter follows with the concept beside with practical painting experience and method verification. Chapter five is to review my paining work collection within the first two years in the art institute. The last chapter will be my work conclusion.

This dissertation aimed to develop the flower-like phosphorus-doped nickel oxide (P-NiO) as the electrocatalyst utilized in the two energy fields, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The dissertation is divided into two part: the material characterizations of P-NiO (Chapter 3) and the energy applications of P-NiO, which are separated two section: the counter electrode (CE) for DSSCs (Chapter 4) and the cathode for water splitting (Chapter 5). In the case of the material characterizations of P-NiO, the chemical composition was proved via XPS analysis. The flower-like nanosheets morphology was observed from SEM images. The P-NiO was shattered to irregular particles and porous nanosheets after annealing process in the higher precursor concentrations (P-NiO-1 and P-NiO-0.75), while the P-NiO-0.5, P-NiO-0.25 and P-NiO-0.1 formed a complete flower-like morphology. The flower-like structure of P-NiO shrank sequential diameters according to the precursor concentrations. Furthermore, P-NiO dropped in the different substrates, carbon cloth (CC) and nickel foam (NF), also led to the variety of appearance. P-NiO-CC and P-NiO-NF easily clustered small units together because of their curved structures. In the case of P-NiO was designed for CEs in the DSSCs, the flower-like nickel oxide essentially serves as the matrix for the CE, which is expected to promote 2-dimensional electron transport pathway. The phosphorus is intended to improve the catalytic ability by creating more active sites in the NiO for the catalysis of triiodide ions (I3-) to iodide ions (I-) on the surface of the CE. The P-NiO was controlled by a sequencing of precursor concentration, which made the P-NiO possess different features. The debris aggregation occurred in the P-NiO-1, while it led to the incomplete flower-like nanosheets of the P-NiO-0.75. The complete flower-like morphology could be observed in the P-NiO-0.5, P-NiO-0.25 and P-NiO-0.1 catalytic electrodes. The DSSCs with P-NiO-0.5 CE has exhibited a power conversion efficiency (η) of 9.05%, which is better than that of the DSSC using a Pt CE (η = 8.51%); it also performs better than that with the Pt CE, even under rear illumination and dim light conditions. The results indicate the promising potential of P-NiO CE to replace the expensive Pt CE. In the case of P-NiO electrode of HER in water splitting, the lowest overpotential (η) all under the P-NiO loading of 0.3 mg cm-2 in the FTO, CC and NF substrates. The electrocatalytic ability of NF is the best among these substrates; thus, P-NiO-NF electrode obtains the smallest η of 230 mV (vs. RHE) and the smallest Tafel slope of 85 mV dec-1. In addition, the photoelectrochemical water splitting built with previous work (DSSC) obtained a good solar-to-hydrogen (ηSTH) of 5.42%. The low-cost P-NiO-NF electrode of HER is an attractive replacement for water splitting.
