Fisheries and aquaculture industry, which provides a continuous and high-return market advantage to potential countries, is also one of the priority industries for Turkey. Although Turkey has important advantages with its geographic position and bio-diversity, the industry's contribution to foreign trade is not at an acceptable level. Accordingly, it is important to evaluate the capture fishery and aquaculture products, which provide the best contribution to the foreign trade of Turkey. Thus, the present paper aims to provide foreign trade executives with an intuition about the most appropriate products to invest in and contributing products to Turkish foreign trade within the scope of market strategies. Entropy-WASPAS, which is a hybrid multi-criteria decision-making method, is used for evaluating the contribution of fishery and aquaculture products to Turkish foreign trade. This model includes both criteria (production, import quantity, import value, export quantity, export value) and alternatives (trout, sea bream, sea bass, sprat, atlantic bonito, anchovy, horse mackerel, pilchard, sea snail, prawn, cuttle fish, mussel). Entropy is used to determine the criteria weights, and WASPAS is applied for ranking the fishery and aquaculture products. According to the results, export value is the most important criteria while Sea Bream is found as the most significant product for Turkey’s foreign trade.

Marketing strategies play a significant role in determining farm income. Although direct marketing has been proposed as an innovative way to improve producers’ economic welfare, little is known about producers’ adoption of direct marketing among aquaculture farms. This study examines the adoption of wholesaler markets, individual wholesalers or shippers, and direct marketing among aquaculture farms. In addition, we quantify the effects of the use of different marketing channels on fishery revenues, profits, and production inputs. A sample of 25,180 aquaculture family farms in Taiwan was drawn from the fishery census survey. After estimating the simultaneous equation system model, we find that the use of multiple marketing channels generates the highest fishery revenues, which highlights the importance of marketing channel diversity on selling fishery products. Moreover, we find a positive effect of direct marketing on fishery revenues and profits. We also find that the use of direct marketing can reduce the use of groundwater in aquaculture production. Since the decrease in groundwater use can mitigate the severity of land subsidence, this paper provides evidence that direct marketing can possibly provide a win-win strategy to improve fishery producers’ revenues and environmental quality.

AbstractIn February 2016, the Feasibility Report on options for an EU ecolabel scheme for fishery and aquaculture products was published. The study did not make a strong case for the introduction of a seafood EU Ecolabel and it is unlikely that the European Commission will pursue this policy option. We argue that sustainability information on seafood should not be framed through the EU Ecolabel debate. The more pressing issue concerns self-declared sustainability claims on seafood products. As a possible solution, we propose to address these by re-invigorating the labelling rules on seafood information in the Regulation on the Common Organisation of the Markets in Fishery and Aquaculture Products.

Abstract One of the islands with huge potential for fishery in South Bangka Regency is the Pongok Islands. Most of the people living in the islands depend on marine and fishery resources. This research aimed to figure out fishery potencies located in the surrounding island of Pongok related to capture fishery, fish food processing, and aquaculture. Data were gathered on field observation and interviews conducting on August 2022. Results of the research three main fishery activities in this area are capture fishery, fish product processing, and aquaculture. The capture fishery is taken for pelagic and coral fish. Some economic fish are anchovy, sardine, squids, and mackerel kingfish. Harvesting each commodity is different due to species and season of wind blowing as well as fishing gear. Fish products of the island are marketed in Toboali, Pangkal Pinang, and Belitung, and even transported to Pontianak and Jakarta. Aquaculture activity is only conducted for raising groupers using floating nets. Moreover, environmental aspects of mariculture, two new fishery commodities like seaweeds and pearl oysters, have the potential to be introduced into the islands. Environmental services have still contributed directly and indirectly to the fishery activities on the islands now and then.

Seafood by-products, produced by a range of different organisms, such as fishes, shellfishes, squids, and bivalves, are usually discarded as wastes, despite their possible use for innovative formulations of functional foods. Considering that “wastes” of industrial processing represent up to 75% of the whole organisms, the loss of profit may be coupled with the loss of ecological sustainability, due to the scarce recycling of natural resources. Fish head, viscera, skin, bones, scales, as well as exoskeletons, pens, ink, and clam shells can be considered as useful wastes, in various weight percentages, according to the considered species and taxa. Besides several protein sources, still underexploited, the most interesting applications of fisheries and aquaculture by-products are foreseen in the biotechnological field. In fact, by-products obtained from marine sources may supply bioactive molecules, such as collagen, peptides, polyunsaturated fatty acids, antioxidant compounds, and chitin, as well as catalysts in biodiesel synthesis. In addition, those sources can be processed via chemical procedures, enzymatic and fermentation technologies, and chemical modifications, to obtain compounds with antioxidant, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, and anti-coagulant effects. Here, we review the main discards from fishery and aquaculture practices and analyse several bioactive compounds isolated from seafood by-products. In particular, we focus on the possible valorisation of seafood and their by-products, which represent a source of biomolecules, useful for the sustainable production of high-value nutraceutical compounds in our circular economy era.

Apart from being a tourist destination,Ranu Klakah, is also used as a fishing business location for capture and aquaculture. Local people use it as a place for fish farming using the floating net cage (KJA) method which has quite a large potential. Currently problems faced by floating net cage fish farmers in Ranu Klakah is the unavailability of adequate fishery facilities and infrastructure, both fisheries and aquaculture, the low application of fishery technology in the field of aquaculture and marketing of fishery products and the low quality of human resources for fisheries sector business. The Doctoral Community Service Program (Doktor Mengabdi/DM) Universitas Brawijaya offers several programs to help solve some of the problems encountered by fish farmers. These solutions, aimed to improve community knowledge about best management practice of aquaculture using floating net-cage system, increasing community knowledge about digital product marketing and improving the quality and quantity of fish production in floating net cage systems in Ranu Klakah to attract consumers with wider coverage area and high time flexibility

The article represents the study of the development of the basic principles of the regulation in the market of fish and organic aquaculture products in the world and the adaptation of the principles, methods, and tools of state regulation in order to develop proposals for the effective functioning of this market in Ukraine. The fact that there is a demand for organic fish has been proven, which, in the long run, encourages the development of effective strategies to meet the needs of consumers. Organic aquaculture has significantly impacted economic aspects such as niche food production, ecology, environment, and rural development. The transition from conventional to organic aquaculture production in Ukraine takes time. However, it can bring significant benefits, including improving the quality of fish and fish products, preserving the environment, increasing consumer awareness, rural development, and industry competitiveness. It is proposed to consider the needs of target markets and consumer demand for the further development of organic aquaculture in Ukraine and the world. Organic aquaculture can be an essential direction for developing fish farming providing high-quality and environmentally friendly organic aquaculture products. For this, it is necessary to improve the mechanisms and methods of state industry regulation while creating conditions for fish producers through regulatory measures to meet the needs of consumers in organic aquaculture products. The dynamics of the formation of the system of EU regulations and UN FAO documents in organic production are given. It was concluded that the further improvement of the normative and legal regulation method is a priority task for ensuring the quality of manufactured organic products and the stability of the functioning of the fishery. Organic production has its characteristics and requirements, which lead to the provision of control, supervision of certification, and labeling of products, which encourage further research in conditions of extraordinary challenges. Topicality. Modern transformations associated with radical changes in the system of international and national security, including those caused by the growing shortage of food products and the threat of famine, determine the growing need for a new understanding of food security problems both at the international and national levels. This problem is becoming more and more relevant for Ukraine as well, which was mostly exacerbated as a result of russia's military aggression. One of the important assets of Ukraine in terms of solving food security problems is its fishing potential. Aim and tasks. This work aims to consider some basic theoretical, methodological and applied aspects of mobilization of natural resource potential and economic assets of the fishery sector of the economic system of Ukraine. At the same time, the main task of solving the specified target problems in the work is the system generalization and program-target organization of driving forces that can really be mobilized in the direction of the revival of fisheries and the development of aquaculture in Ukraine. Materials and methods. This study used primarily national regulatory and legal materials that determine state policy in the field of development of the agro-industrial complex, fisheries and aquaculture, in particular, the Law of Ukraine "On Aquaculture", as well as foreign materials reflecting modern food security problems. In terms of methodological support of the research, the author paid attention to the possibilities of using modern apparatus for the study of complex developing systems in conditions of crisis transformation, as well as modern ideologues of such scientific areas as conflictology, riskology, theory of nonlinear systems. Research results. The work presents the results of theoretical and methodological discussions and applied aspects of the formation of a new fishery complex of Ukraine. The long-term prospects of its revival are associated with the mobilization model of the development of continental aquaculture and marine culture of reproduction (mariculture). Particular attention is paid to the driving forces of the revival of the national fishery and aquaculture. In the work, driving forces are defined as an integrated set of two basic components: the needs and interests of society in the production of fishery products; availability and possibilities of effective implementation of state resources and assets. Conclusion. The theoretical and methodological approaches discussed in the work to the activation of the driving forces of aquaculture development should be considered as an important scientific and applied basis for the revival of fisheries and aquaculture in Ukraine in the context of growing socio-economic and ecological conflict, including those associated with military aggression of russia, attention is drawn to the fact that Ukraine has a very large and favorable natural resource potential both for the production of agricultural products and products of the fishery sector of the economy. As an outpost of the revival and development of the Ukrainian fishery and its promising key sector - aquaculture an mariculture − the sea coastal zone is consi ere in relation to the water management potential of the coastal regions of Ukraine.

Purpose. The role of aquaculture products in imports of Ukraine given the importance of imports in providing demand of the population on seafood and fish products and prospects are assessed, opportunities for import substitution of the main species of imported fish originating from aquaculture. Findings. Food security of any country is formed by the balance of its own production, exports and imports. In most European countries, the leading role in satisfaction of demand of the consumers for fish and seafood as of today is played by the import of fish and seafood (HS groups of commodoties 03, 1604, 1605 and 230120), and not their production in the country. Imports play a very important role in saturating the Ukrainian fish and seafood market. Due to the growing role of fish farming (aquaculture) in the world, the role of aquaculture products in Ukrainian imports for the period from 1996 to 2019 includes has been analyzed. The leading role of aquaculture products in the import of fresh and chilled products and relatively small in the subgroup of frozen products is noted. The higher prices of aquaculture products compared to catch fishery products has been confirmed. Assumptions are made about the possible replacement of import of the leading categories of imported products originating from aquaculture and about probably the most advanced technologies of fish farming and species of aquaculture in Ukraine with the current structure and traffic of commodities in global aquaculture and current expenditures of Ukraine on R & D in aquaculture. Practical value. The data obtained can be useful and used by scientists, practitioners, students, specialists, whose areas of interest include aquaculture and imports, exports of fish products. Aquatic products are important sources of protein and food consumption, which are pivotal to solving the problem of food shortage. As the world’s largest producer of aquatic products, China’s aquaculture has developed rapidly. However, a large quantity of pollutants has also been generated in the fish farming process, which is detrimental to the sustainable development of China’s aquaculture. Therefore, under double constraints with regard to resources and the environment, fishery development must achieve cleaner production. Measuring green total factor productivity in aquaculture is fundamental to improving aquaculture production efficiency and reducing pollution emissions. This paper investigated the green total factor productivity in China using the SBM-ML method and analyzed the dynamic evolution of fish farming, measuring its change characteristics with regard to time and spatial differences. The results indicated that the total factor productivity indexes of mariculture and freshwater aquaculture in China are 1.050 and 1.060, respectively. Regionally, mariculture in the East China Sea region has the highest green total factor productivity of 1.072, followed by the South China Sea region with 1.056, and the green total factor productivity in the Yellow Sea region is the lowest—only 1.030. The results of the freshwater aquaculture calculations showed the opposite geographical distribution characteristics in China, with the highest in the western region (1.098), followed by the central region (1.046), with the lowest being in the eastern region (1.038). Evidently, both mariculture and freshwater aquaculture have noticeable spatiotemporal heterogeneity. Relevant policy recommendations are provided to improve the green production efficiency of fishery.

The objective of this paper is to present the issues of fish consumption in the ECOWAS region and Mauritania in the context of overexploitation of fishery resources, significant population growth, and increasing food and nutritional insecurity. The method involved compiling data on production (fishing and aquaculture), foreign trade in fishery products, and population to define net supply and apparent consumption. Numerical assumptions were made to project consumption trends up to 2030. The assumptions were based on the identification of past and recent fish consumption trends, incorporating political, ecological, and economic events that could impact the standard of living of West African populations. The results indicate that the production of fishery and aquaculture products in the ECOWAS region and Mauritania increased from 2.1 million to 3.6 million between 2008 and 2022, driven by significant catches in Mauritania and the burgeoning aquaculture industries in Nigeria and Ghana. The reliance on imports to compensate for the production deficit has grown increasingly important. Imports now exceed exports by a factor of three, with an average of 1.9 million tonnes imported compared to 0.6 million exported between 2009 and 2022. Despite a notable increase in fishery product exports from Senegal and Mauritania, this rise has not been sufficient to offset the negative trade balance of the region, exacerbated by substantial growth in imports from Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Nigeria. Even with the significant imports, per capita consumption within ECOWAS and Mauritania has decreased from 14 kg to 11 kg between 2008 and 2022. This decline in consumption is projected to continue in the coming decade, dropping to less than 9 kg by 2030. The current state of overexploitation of fish stocks, ecosystem degradation, climate change, and significant population growth do not favor an improvement in fish consumption over the next decade. However, meeting the ever-increasing demand for fishery products in West Africa is possible if radical changes are implemented at the forefront of decision-making processes.

Global marine fish harvests have reached a plateau over the last decade, and efforts to increase aquaculture tend to face limitations in terms of water resources and contamination problems. Of the current fish harvest, at least 50% is discarded as waste. The current situation requires efforts to process, preserve, and utilize the fish capture to minimize waste. Chemical and microbiological contamination limit the utilization of harvested fish. There is a need to improve fish preservation to minimize spoilage and to process them into more appealing products. Instead of resorting to individual food-processing methods, the efficiency of processing could best be increased by a combination of conventional and modern processing methods or by combinations of modern processing methods. Fish waste is a rich source of oils containing essential fatty acids, polypeptides, and amino polysaccharides that could be utilized through the upscaling of current scientifically proven methods to new processing technologies. The separation of collagens, gelatins, bioactive peptides, edible fish oils, and chitosan form the primary stages in the utilization of fish waste. The products need purification to meet food quality and safety standards and to have desirable industrial characteristics. The diversity of information and products generated through new methods require advanced data handling and prediction systems, such as artificial intelligence, to address food safety and to derive the best out of fish processing and utilization.

Milkfish is the leading fishery commodity in Indonesia, so there are many people who clear land for milkfish cultivation. Milkfish has a specialty because of its high nutritional and nutritional content. In the national fishery sector, aquaculture plays an important role with the average national milkfish consumption level of 1.40 kg/capita with market absorption at the household level of 352,718 tons. In milkfish cultivation, various preparations and good considerations are needed. SWOT analysis is the right method to see the development of aquaculture trade in Indonesia. through SWOT analysis is able to provide the concept of strategic planning on the results of the analysis of the company's strategic factors (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats). With the strategy, the trade system will facilitate mobilization activities to facilitate channels and can provide more satisfaction to consumers. However, in marketing fishery products, various specific problems are faced because they are caused by the characteristics of fishery commodities. Therefore, a sustainable marketing strategy is needed to improve the economy and welfare for them.

Management and processing of marine and fishery products are one of the ways to improve the welfare and socio-economy of the community. The province of East Nusa Tenggara is one of the regions in Indonesia that has enormous marine fishery potential. The potential for fisheries comes from capture fisheries and aquaculture reaching 72 thousand tons with a production value of 1.8 trillion Rupiah, and the second-largest seaweed producer after South Sulawesi with seaweed production of 2.9 trillion Rupiah. This potential needs to be developed to support economic growth and improve the welfare of people who have jobs in the fisheries sector, such as the development of value-added fishery products through fishery industrial activities. This activity aims to examine the added value of marine and fishery products on a home scale industry and its implications for society. This community service activity is carried out on Oesapa Beach by targeting coastal communities. Activities are carried out by providing training and presentation of material regarding the use of fish grinding machines and cold storage to properly and safely support small-scale economic activities. This activity was well appreciated by the community and had a positive impact in efforts to increase the selling power of marine and fishery products.

The fisheries sector, both capture fisheries, and aquaculture, needs to be developed in Southeast Sulawesi Province, considering that most of its territory is water. One of the indicators to measure the success of the development of the fisheries sector is the increase in production and added value of fishery commodities. On the other hand, Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) can be used as an indicator of the success of economic development in a region. As one of the GRDP elements, the value of fisheries production can be used to measure the performance of the fisheries sector. By knowing the magnitude of the value contribution of fishery products to GRDP, it can be seen the role of the fisheries sector in the formation of GRDP. This study aims to analyze the trend of fishery production value contribution to GRDP; and the relationship between the value contribution of fishery production and GRDP in Southeast Sulawesi. The data used in this study is time series data consisting of capture and aquaculture production values and GRDP for 17 years (2006-2022). Data analysis is descriptive quantitative and simple correlation analyses (Pearson correlation). The study results show that the value contribution of capture and aquaculture production to Southeast Sulawesi’s GRDP tends to decrease. The role of the fisheries sector in forming the GRDP of Southeast Sulawesi Province is not significant.

Recently, it has become important to find a way to combine modern information technology with the traditional fishery industry. For this, understanding the current situation of the smart fishery is important to promote its development. Promoting the transformation and upgrading of the traditional fishery industry can speed up the process of fishery modernization. Applying modern science and technology to the whole process of the fishery leads to the development of the fishery industry. Therefore, we tried to create a related knowledge map to present the status and important topics of China's smart fishery using the CNKI database from 2000 to 2022. CiteSpace software was used for the literature analysis, and Excel was used for statistical analysis and chart drawing of relevant data. The result shows the following. (1) Smart fishery is a new research field, and the number of related publications is on the rise. However, the total amount of literature is relatively small, and more research is needed. (2) Only a limited number of research groups and researchers have close cooperation, and most of them have little communication with each other. The map shows that "part of the network is concentrated, the whole point is scattered". (3) Major research topics are mainly focused on "aquaculture", "the Internet of Things", "marine fishery", "satellite remote sensing", "Internet" and "fishery production". (4) Future research topics and trends are likely to be in "modern fisheries", "big data", "aquatic products", "aquaculture", "marine ranching" and "recreational fisheries". Such a result provides a reference for decision-making and promoting the sustainable development of smart fisheries.

The research paper proposes to review concept traceability systems in fishery value chain with main focus upon the survey traceability system in fishery value chain. For increasing a trust of consumers and also reducing a risk related with food utilization, basically a Food Traceability System is come with, which provides pertinent information regarding the supply from the source to destination. Utilization of fish is increasing over time. Now a day’s 50% fish use up by humans coming from aquaculture domain. When we are comparing sea food the traceability of fish products is not as good as it is for other food products. most crucial when we are comparing sea food with other food products, this paper gives review regarding different traceability forms and also discusses a new approach of fishery supply chain which overcomes the other issues related with building a trust while purchasing a product.

Fishmeal is the main source of dietary protein for most commercially farmed fish species. However, fishmeal prices have been raised even further because of competition with domestic animals, shortage in world fishmeal supply, and increased demand. Increased fishmeal prices have contributed to the quest for alternatives necessary to replace fishmeal as a global research priority. A literature search was conducted using these terms on Google Scholar and EBSCOhost; fishmeal replacement in fish feeds, fishmeal alternatives in fish feeds, animal protein sources in aquaculture, insects in fish feeds, terrestrial by-products, and fishery by-products. To calculate the variation between experiments, a random effect model was used. Results indicated that different fish species, sizes, and inclusion levels were used in the various studies and showed that the use of insects, terrestrial by-products, and fishery by-products has some limitations. Despite these drawbacks, the use of animal protein sources as a replacement for fishmeal in fish diets has had a positive impact on the feed conversion ratio, variable growth rate, final weight, and survival rate of different types of fish species of different size groups. Findings also showed that some animal by-products had not been assessed as a protein source in aquaculture or animal feeds, and future studies are recommended.

Pangandaran has potential for developing multisectoral fisheries and marine science, such as marine tourism, aquaculture, marine culture, fishing, and fishery processing. The increase of fishery potential is followed by the development of the fishery product technology which is spread ini every sub district both on a large scale or houshold scale in the form of micro, small, and medium enterprises. The development of fishery based products has the potential to be implemented in Pangandaran. The development of fishery processing activities also indicates an increase in the potential for solid or liquid waste production. In order for fishery processing activities in Pangandaran always sustainable with zero waste principle, structured information is needed. There are three Poklahsar in Parigi District that produce salted fish, nuget, and jambal salted fish. The average total volume of waste is less than 20 kg/ month.

The fishery sector is an important source of income, employment and food supply in Vietnam. In 2014, Vietnam was ranked the world's fourth largest exporter and the third largest producer of farmed food fish. Vietnam seafood export has attained the value of over US$6.0 billion since 2011 and reached a peak of US$7.9 billion in 2014. However, many problems and diseases confront sustainable development of the fishery sector and overuse of antibiotics is considered a major challenge. Antibiotics are used in aquaculture for both therapeutic and prophylactic reasons. Various antimicrobials used in human medicine are also used for food animals even for non-therapeutic use. The use of antibiotics in health management of aquaculture farming is of great concern due to possible residues in aquatic products and in the development of antibiotic resistance. In 2005 the Vietnamese government first promulgated a list of medicines, chemicals and antibiotics that are banned or limited for use in aquaculture and this is regularly updated and amended to tackle the growing problem of antibiotic resistance.

PurposeThis paper examines the prices of fishery products (an important source of protein for the poor) and drivers of their inter-regional variations in India, where fishery is a critical sector. By explaining regional price differences, we make an attempt to derive policy implications as to how fish price inflation can be controlled.Design/methodology/approachThe paper is primarily based on secondary data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. In the absence of data on inter-regional trade, appropriate indicators are constructed using the gravity model to capture supply side factors that may influence regional price differences. Pooled regressions are carried out for a representative marine and an aquaculture fish variety separately for the period 2011 to 2017.FindingsAfter controlling for income levels, it is found that marine fish prices can be reduced by improving intra-state transport infrastructure. For reducing the price of aquacultures, it is shown that it is imperative to reduce the distance between producers and consumers.Research limitations/implicationsThe study is limited by the availability of data on interstate trade and consumption of fish and has only used prices of representative fish varieties instead of average marine and aquaculture fish prices.Originality/valueThis paper considers trade and value chain based business theories to explain regional price differences. It analyzes the drivers of relative price differences and suggests measures to control them using a gravity model of trade.

As the fastest-growing food producer in the world, aquaculture plays a crucial role in ensuring global food and nutritional security. Nearly 70% of the aquaculture production is represented by fed aquaculture, in which the provision of nutritionally balanced formulated aquafeed is compulsory. Fish meal and fish oil derived from wild-captured small-pelagic fish are major components of aquafeed. Unsustainability in wild-captured fish, escalating market demand, uncertainties in future supply and prices are forcing fish nutritionists to evaluate and utilize alternative novel ingredients for aquafeed. By-products of fishery and aquaculture, insect meals, food waste, macroalgae, and a variety of single-cell organisms have been identified as potential ingredients in future aquafeed and it will ensure the sustainability of fed aquaculture. This editorial note discusses the utilization of alternative novel protein ingredients in aquafeed to ensure an economically and environmentally sound future for the aquaculture industry.

Food production through aquaculture is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. World aquaculture production is dominated by low-income food-deficit countries, which account for the majority of production. There is a great deal of expectation that aquaculture will contribute to the world's aquatic food production, and there is also hope that aquaculture will continue to grow in the future as a result of stagnant yields from many capture fisheries and increasing demand for fish and fishery products. In contrast, aquaculture is widely recognized as encompassing a wide range of different types of aquatic farming practices, such as seaweed farming, mollusk farming, crustacean farming, fish farming, and other aquatic species. Using different resource use patterns, there is a wide range of options for diversification, such as seaweed farming, mollusk farming, crustacean farming, and fish farming. Currently, aquaculture produces nearly a third of the world's edible fish supplies, and its contribution to marine food sources will only grow. As a sustainable alternative to catch fisheries, aquaculture has the potential to feed the world's rising population. Globally, aquaculture is the fastest-growing sector of the food industry, growing at a rate of more than 10% per year and accounting for more than 30% of all fish consumed. In regards to long-term sustainability, aquaculture faces the same issues as all other food production methods.

Water quality is emphasized by the aquaculture sector as it affects the health and growth performance of aquaculture species. However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia, various sectors including aquaculture sector, have been instructed to shut down as a lockdown alternative to control the spread of the disease. The total lockdown has made impossible to give proper management to the aquaculture ponds and indirectly led to the high mortality of aquaculture organisms. High mortality has led to rapid microbial growth, which affected the water quality and the balance in the aquaculture system. The objective of this project was to examine the water quality of selected ponds at Semenggok Inland Fishery Centre via physiochemical and microbial analysis. This project also aimed to determine and identify the bacteria population in examined water samples. Lastly, this project sought to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of identified isolates. In this study, the characteristics of aquaculture environmental samples were determined. Water and soil samples were collected from three randomly selected ponds in the Semenggok Inland Fishery Centre, Kuching, Sarawak and the physiochemical and biological parameters were analysed. Bacteria were isolated from both water and soil samples and then characterised. Boiling-centrifugation method with modifications were used for DNA extraction of the bacteria [1,2]. (GTG)5-PCR was utilized to screen for clonal diversity among the isolates. A dendrogram was constructed using GelJ 1.0 software from the banding profile of (GTG)5-PCR products [3]. Out of all the isolates analysed, 11 representative isolates were selected for 16S rRNA sequencing based on the grouping from the dendrogram. The 11 isolates were identified as Brevundimonas sp., Staphylococcus sp., Pseudomonas sp., Escherichia sp., Ralstonia sp., and Exiguobacterium sp. (Table 1). The isolates were tested for antibiotic resistance using the disc diffusion method. Most of the isolates tested were resistant to ampicillin (10 μg), penicillin (10 μg), and streptomycin (10 μg). The MAR index of isolates were calculated, ranged from 0.143 to 0.714, indicating high possibility of culturing fish in the contaminated water. This study revealed the risk of presence of multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) bacteria in the fishery centre. Therefore, the fishery centre should improve the aquaculture system by constantly monitoring and also provide a proper management to the wastewater to minimise the distribution of MAR bacteria

The vast majority of the world’s fishery by-products are utilized in the fish farming industry. However, due to the high cost and unsustainability of these by-products, alternative sources must be found. Marine diatoms produce important amounts of fatty acids, sterols, proteins and carbohydrates. In this work, we assessed the nutritional value of Halamphora coffeaeformis at the exponential growth phase, to determine its suitability for aquafeed. The strain was grown in a photobioreactor at 20 °C for 6 days. The production of proteins, lipids and carbohydrates was determined, and essential fatty acid, sterol and amino acid composition was assessed. The highest values of triacylglycerides (TAG), free and esterified sterols, proteins and carbohydrates were found after 6 days of growth in the photobioreactor. Fatty acid analysis by gas chromatography showed the presence of eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and arachidonic (ARA) in amounts similar to those for fish oils. In terms of sterols, a predominance of stigmasterol was observed, followed by cholesterol. The amino acid composition revealed 50% of them to be among those essential for fish and other aquatic animals. Finally, a suitable amount of carbohydrates was found in H. coffeaeformis cultures. Together, these findings support the use of H. coffeaeformis as an alternative and sustainable source for aquafeed to partially replace the use of fishery by-products.

As a land-locked country in Southern Africa, Zambia is rich in natural resources suitable for fish production. However, aquaculture is still in its infancy with enormous potential as most of Zambia’s fish now comes from capture fisheries. The aim of this study was to review the recent progress, status, challenges, and opportunities in Zambia’s aquaculture industry while drawing some lessons from China’s aquaculture experience, focusing on policy instruments, external support, quality seeds, and the investment environment for possible adaptation. To achieve this, we reviewed the existing literature about aquaculture in Zambia. This paper starts by reviewing the overall fishery sector’s developments based on the analysis of relevant statistics over decades before narrowing down to the aquaculture sub-sector. The review shows that aquaculture production has continued to expand significantly and will soon play a leading role in food and nutrition security in Zambia. However, the industry still faces major challenges relating to investments, science and technology, fish seed and feed, and an underdeveloped value chain besides the increasing demand for fish products. Nevertheless, great potential still exists to further develop the aquaculture sub-sector and meet the ever-growing demand for fish products caused mainly by the rapid population increase.

The relevance of this study is due to the need to develop and implement in regional practice effective management decisions that promote the development of fish farms and increase aquaculture pro-duction. Since fish farming (aquaculture) is one of the structural components of the fishery complex, the authors pay attention to both the peculiarities of its development in the conditions of the North and the Arctic, and the specifics of economic activity in the field of aquaculture projects. The article presents the results of a survey of the population of the Arctic territories of the Arkhangelsk Oblast on the consumption of fish and fish products, which allowed establishing various consumer profiles of preferences depending on their age category, as well as to identify the main reasons constraining the consumption of fish and fish products (among which: high price, availability of low-quality products in retail outlets, the lack of ability and desire to cook among the younger generation). Based on the results of expert interviews with producers of fish and fish products, as well as with representatives of the scientific community and authorities of the Arkhangelsk Oblast, a problem matrix was compiled and the necessary activities were identified to address key issues of the development of aquaculture projects in the region.

Based on a generalization of an extensive array of statistical and analytical data, an analysis of the state of the fishery complex of Russia and the Krasnodar Territory was carried out. The industry’s contribution to solving the problem of food security has been determined. A fairly high degree of self-sufficiency of Russians in fish products has been noted. The current state and features of the functioning of the global and Russian fishing industry are determined. Based on the UN FAO Blue Transformation program, a global trend has been identified to increase the production of commercial aquaculture and the prerequisites for its development in Russia. At the same time, it is indicated that the degree of development of aquaculture in Russia does not correspond to the natural capabilities of the country. Based on an analysis of the state of aquaculture in the south of Russia, the reasons for the decline in the level of commercial fish production in freshwater bodies of the southern regions of the country are identified. The prospects for the restoration and development of commercial fish farming in pond farms and lake-type farms have been determined. The reserves for expanding the areas of aquaculture, including mariculture in the coastal part of the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory are outlined. The feasibility of developing commercial aquaculture in RAS installations in small forms of management and the need to modernize the industry are substantiated. Proposals have been formulated on the need to further expand government support measures and search for options for more accelerated development of fish feed production in order to reduce import dependence. It has been proven that in modern conditions aquaculture is the driver of the fishery complex. For further successful development of the industry, a favorable investment climate, financial support from the state, and the development of public-private partnerships in the implementation of relevant projects are necessary. The progressive development of the aquaculture industry will expand the range of fish products, increase their consumption by the country’s population, and increase employment and income levels.

Generation Z or students' interaction with the internet world is very active; since they were little, they have lived and been used to playing with gadgets. On average, students can access 7-10 hours/day. Activities can have positive value if the interaction is directed at positive activities. On the other hand, if it is not directed, the tendency is negative. Glagah District is rich in aquaculture products, capture fisheries, and even processing of fishery products. However, this potential has yet to be optimized as a business opportunity. Few people still sell fishery products online despite the significant business opportunities and broad market access. Its existence is essential to run; the business will remain in place without it—students with all their potential need to be directed to take advantage of these business opportunities. Through internal community empowerment activities at the Muhammadiyah University of Gresik, students will be given meaningful stimulus and education to be empowered when they graduate. This activity is carried out using lecture and practice methods. The result is that students grow in their entrepreneurial spirit, understand the region's potential, understand the characteristics of online buying and selling, and can brand various fishery products online.

This study aims to improve the problems faced by Taiwan's aquaculture industry, such as the increased risk of drug residues caused by excessive use of water and soil resources and high-density farming, and to improve its competitiveness. Improve regional production and marketing operations, increase environmental protection production methods, and increase young people's willingness to return to their hometowns to invest. In order to increase consumers' trust in aquaculture aquatic products, basic safety requirements can be achieved through production and sales history labels, vacuum-sealed packaging, and clear labels, thereby enhancing consumer loyalty. Brand features and product discounts can also enhance loyalty. This study uses the focus group interview method to understand the problems of regional farming and the expected future prospects. Results found that it is possible to integrate regional farmers, establish sales channels for agricultural and fishery products in Chiayi, achieve sustainable development and improve competitiveness, and increase the willingness of young people to return to their hometowns to invest. To sum up, there are the following three propositions: (1) Construct cooperation channels to increase the added value of production and sales. (2) Introduce friendly breeding and increase product differentiation. (3) Establish an intelligent platform to train young people to return hometown. In addition, it is also suggested to combine the promotion of local recreational fishery and the characteristics of e-commerce distribution and sales to establish an operation model of online distribution and sales; and widely publicize Taiwan's seafood and aquatic product certification and inspection system to promote friendly farming methods to improve the existing breeding environment. Protect the sustainable environment and increase production value.

Sustainability is about meeting the needs of current generations without compromising those of future generations. For fished and aquacultured products, sustainability is often gauged on an individual fishery or farm basis but can be driven by a well-designed and implemented regulatory management system, or set of laws, rules, and policies promulgated by a governmental entity. To achieve global coverage via current assessment approaches requires enormous effort and resources due to the sheer number of individual operating units. System assessments are well established in assuring seafood safety, but much less so in regard to sustainability. This paper presents a tool to measure sustainability based on the prevailing regulatory management system and invites other researchers and practitioners to gauge the applicability of the methodology to new contexts. Evaluating how management systems support sustainable practices is key for assessing current reality and planning change. The methodology presented is based on international criteria for sustainability set forth in United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) guidelines for the ecolabelling of fish and fishery products as well as aquaculture certification. The assessment tools are the distillation of qualitative criteria found within the FAO guidelines into simple propositions called “Topics of Pertinence” that enable a straightforward cross-checking of whether the requirements and provisions of regulatory management systems reflect broadly accepted sustainability criteria in fisheries and aquaculture sectors. Assessments document what management systems aim to do via laws, regulations, and policies, and verify mechanisms within the systems that support implementation and compliance. While other sustainability assessments exist, the methodology described here is unique in that it is the only process that provides a system-based approach targeting higher management levels, which can increase global coverage of sustainability assessment from the current lower-tiered approach of certifying at individual production entities.

The process of having Hungary join the EU raises many difficult tasks in all branches of agriculture, including fish production. One of the main tasks is to develop techniques in quality control. In the near future companies who want to export their products to EU will have to undergo the auditing process of Total Quality Management (TQM). This means analysis of the whole production system from the used materials, animals and feeds relative to current and accepted quality standards. The methods of the analysis of hazards and critical points (HACCP) are used to check the most important abiotic and biotic markers of quality. Special aspects of aquaculture and fishery are discussed relative to environmental management’s quality control. A model is developed for a fish hatchery.

In recent years, smart fisheries, as an emerging model for fishery development, have become a research hotspot in the fishery and aquaculture industries of many countries. Smart fisheries can be thought of as a system that combines techniques for raising, catching, or selling aquatic products to improve production and sustainable development. Smart fisheries are crucial to improving fishery and aquaculture management. In this study, a comprehensive analysis was conducted using bibliometric analysis, the results of which are presented through visual mapping and data charts. This study collected data from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database and compared it with the WoS database. A total of 949 articles were retrieved on topics related to smart fisheries, including 579 articles from WoS and 370 articles from CNKI. The results present the visualization and analysis of annual publications, author collaboration maps, research collaboration institutions, keywords, etc. The development of smart fisheries in China is obviously different from that in foreign countries. China attaches great importance to technology and production, while foreign countries focus on environmental issues. Therefore, this study helps us to understand the current research status, research hotspots, and future development directions of smart fisheries, providing certain references for future management.

The strategy for development of agro-industrial and fishery complexes of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030 focuses the domestic fish industry to increasing the volume of aquaculture products up to 618 thousand tons. With a proportional distribution of the regional load, the volume of seafood production in the Southern and the North Caucasian Federal Districts should be increased to 200 thousand tons by 2030. To achieve this level, the volume must increase by about 9 % annually that is almost 2.5 times higher than the actual gains. The problem can be solved with state support for development of large industrial farms that use warm wastewater from power plants or other industries. Further progressive development of aquaculture in the southern regions of Russia could be facilitated by creation of a state structure that provides practical interaction between enterprises, executive authorities, scientific and educational institutions.

Plastic waste has become an environmental problem of global concern. Since microplastics (MP) are accumulated in all marine compartments due to direct emissions from the fragmentation or technosphere of macroplastic waste, they constitute a potential risk for aquatic organisms that ingest them as well as for humans through the consumption of fishery products. Data on the effects and damages that MP debris may exert on marine biota and marine food supply chains is scarce, hence, the study of microplastics impact in aquaculture has become a universal research hotspot. This review shed light an overview on sources of MP, their deleterious impact on marine environment, their toxicological effects on marine organisms by affecting their survival rate, growth, behavior and reproduction which ultimately will reduce the economic benefits of aquaculture. Moreover, the potential health risks that MP pose to human at multiple levels through aquaculture products consumption are also discussed. Strengthening aquaculture management, ecological interception and purification as well as improving fishing gear and packaging are considered to be effective removal strategies for controlling MP pollution. As practical measures, new remote sensing technology and portable MP monitoring system are two prospects known to be widely applied. Finally, the supervision of MP pollution in aquaculture must be established by enforcing rapid waste management policies and strengthening the construction of laws and regulations.
