This paper describes a method to generate ontologies from glossaries of terms. The proposed method presupposes an evolutionary life cycle based on successive transformations of the original glossary that lead to products of intermediate knowledge representation (dictionary, taxonomy, and thesaurus). These products are characterized by an increase in semantic expressiveness in comparison to the product obtained in the previous transformation, with the ontology as the end product. Although this method has been applied to produce an ontology from the “IEEE Standard Glossary of Software Engineering Terminology,” it could be applied to any glossary of any knowledge domain to generate an ontology that may be used to index or search for information resources and documents stored in libraries or on the Semantic Web.

Literature on the history of ‘paranoia’ (as a clinical concept) is large and confusing. This is partly explained by the fact that over the centuries the word ‘paranoia’ has been made to participate in several convergences (clinical constructs), and hence it has named different forms of behaviour and been linked to different explanatory concepts. The Classic Text that follows provides information on the internal clinical evolution of the last convergence in which ‘paranoia’ was made to participate. August Wimmer maps the historical changes of ‘ Verrücktheit’ as it happened within the main European psychiatric traditions since the early 19th century. After World War II, that clinical profile was to become reified and renamed as ‘delusional disorder’.

AbstractThe purpose of this article is to contextualize Bruno Leoni’s political theory within the Digital Information Society, a new dimension of public participation in the political arena and a sign of the democratic transition through new forms of involvement by public opinion. In particular, the evolution of the Information Society will be briefly examined starting from the studies of Fritz Machlup, considered its progenitor, to pass to the examination of the Leonian concept of law and politics in the technological society, with reference to Norbert Wiener and Karl Deutsch’s cybernetic theory. This paper will attempt to describe the evolutive process of political participation in democratic society by reinterpreting the thought of Bruno Leoni concerning Democracy, the State and the homo telematicus in the digital social order.

Chemistry has developed from molecular chemistry, mastering the combination and recombination of atoms into increasingly complex molecules, to supramolecular chemistry, harnessing intermolecular forces for the generation of informed supramolecular systems and processes through the implementation of molecular information carried by electromagnetic interactions. Supramolecular chemistry is actively exploring systems undergoing self-organization, i.e. systems capable of spontaneously generating well-defined functional supramolecular architectures by self-assembly from their components, on the basis of the molecular information stored in the covalent framework of the components and read out at the supramolecular level through specific molecular recognition interactional algorithms, thus behaving as programmed chemical systems. Supramolecular entities as well as molecules containing reversible bonds are able to undergo a continuous change in constitution by reorganization and exchange of building blocks. This capability defines a Constitutional Dynamic Chemistry (CDC) on both the molecular and supramolecular levels. CDC introduces a paradigm shift with respect to constitutionally static chemistry. It takes advantage of dynamic constitutional diversity to allow variation and selection and thus adaptation. The merging of the features of supramolecular systems – information and programmability; dynamics and reversibility; constitution and structural diversity – points towards the emergence of adaptive chemistry. A further development will concern the inclusion of the arrow of time, i.e. of non-equilibrium, irreversible processes and the exploration of the frontiers of chemical evolution towards the establishment of evolutive chemistry, where the features acquired by adaptation are conserved and transmitted. In combination with the corresponding fields of physics and biology, chemistry thus plays a major role in the progressive elaboration of a science of informed, organized, evolutive matter, a science of complex matter.

To understand current situation in specific scenarios, valuable knowledge should be mined from both historical data and emerging new data. However, most existing algorithms take the historical data and the emerging data as a whole and periodically repeat to analyze all of them, which results in heavy computation overhead. It is also challenging to accurately discover new knowledge in time, because the emerging data are usually small compared to the historical data. To address these challenges, we propose a novel knowledge discovery algorithm based on double evolving frequent pattern trees that can trace the dynamically evolving data by an incremental sliding window. One tree is used to record frequent patterns from the historical data, and the other one records incremental frequent items. The structures of the double frequent pattern trees and their relationships are updated periodically according to the emerging data and a sliding window. New frequent patterns are mined from the incremental data and new knowledge can be obtained from pattern changes. Evaluations show that this algorithm can discover new knowledge from evolving data with good performance and high accuracy.

Background: The C2V3C3 region of gp 120, encoded by the HIV-1 envelope gene (env), is an important antigenic target, a key determinant for viral evolution and essential for determining epitopes for vaccines. Methods: The relationships among genetic sequence diversity, selective pressure, constraints on HIV-1 envelope protein were explored and also correlated this analysis with information entropy; hypermutation; HIV tropism; CD4+ T cell counts or HIV viral load. A total of 179 HIV-1 C2V3C3 sequences derived from cell-free plasma were used, determined from serial samples, in four epidemiologically linked individuals (one infected blood donor, two transfusion recipients and a sexual partner infected by one of the recipients) over a maximum period of 8 years. This study is important because it considers the analysis of patterns in genomic sequences, without drugs and over time. Results: A temporal relationship among information entropy, hypermutation, tropism switch, viral load, and CD4+ T cell count was determined. Changes in information entropy were time-dependent, and an increase in entropy was observed in the C2V3C3 region at amino acids G313 and F317-I320 (related to the GPGR-motif and coreceptor tropism), and at amino acids A281 in C2 and A346 in C3, related to immune escape. Conclusion: The increase of information entropy over time was correlated with hypermutation and the emergence of nonR5- strains, which are both associated with more variable genomes.

Abstract Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) in young patients represents a real public health problem, with a concerning increase in its prevalence. Aim of the study: To observe and to document relevant information regarding the particularities and the evolutive clinical patterns of MDD in young patients (18–50 years). Material and methods: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study on 68 patients diagnosed with MDD, aged 18–50 years, admitted to the First Department of Psychiatry of the Clinical County Hospital of Târgu Mureș, Romania between January 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020. Data regarding the patients’ psychiatric evaluation (primary and secondary diagnosis, relapses, associated personality disorders, autolytic attempts, treatment options, evolution, comorbidities) and psychological evaluation (HAM-D, HAM-A, GAF) were analyzed. Results: The highest prevalence of MDD was found in the 41–50 years age group (66%), followed by the 31–40 years age group (24%). Regarding the GAF and HAM-D scales, 90% of patients had scores in the range of 41–50 and >20 respectively. We found a high prevalence of personality disorders (75%), the most common being borderline personality disorder (27%). Younger patients (18–35 years) tended to recover quicker, with an average of 8.15 hospitalization days compared to older patients (36–50 years) who had an average of 12 days. Relapses were present in 55% of cases, being more frequent in women, and there was a 50% rate of relapse in subjects with no social support network. Autolytic attempts were present in 25% of cases and insomnia in 92%. Conclusions: MDD has a major impact on the patients’ global functionality and their quality of life. In our study, women were more vulnerable to develop MDD, while younger adults were less prone to develop MDD and they recovered more quickly.

We are presenting a feature based mapping procedure applied on data reduction to the relevant information used for autonomous navigation. The proceeding is based on the evaluation of the environment using a SICK LD laser scanner. We assume that laser scanners have the advantage of producing reliable data with well understood characteristics for map generation. By implementing evolutive algorithms we process data into lines representing edges of the surrounding objects and create a simplified representation of the environment (feature based). Because of the dynamic generation and evolution of the map, during the movement of the autonomous vehicle we are considering of merging and fitting the data by applying a shape correlation. The goal of our project defines the capability of a fully autonomous vehicle to safely drive through the environment until reaching the standard parking lots and complete autonomous parking procedures.

AbstractThe investigation of post-AGB objects (proto-planetary nebulae) is very important from the standpoint of physical and chemical changes occurring during the late stages of stellar evolution. The Toruń catalogue of Galactic post-AGB and related objects is an evolutive catalogue containing astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic data as well as HST images for all known post-AGB objects and candidates in our Galaxy. This free-access catalogue can serve as an ideal tool to study different groups of post-AGB objects, especially due to the fact that all information is gathered in one place. The second release of our catalogue introduces a simple classification scheme of post-AGB objects and includes a significant number of new objects, photometric data, spectra and images. Here, using objects from the catalogue we consider the problem of the termination of the AGB phase.

The classification of multivariate time-varying data finds application in several fields, such as economics, finance, marketing research, psychometrics, bioinformatics, medicine, signal processing, pattern recognition, etc. In this paper, by considering an exploratory formalization, we propose different unsupervised clustering models for multivariate data time arrays (objects×quantitative variables×times). These models can be classified in two different approaches: the cross sectional and the longitudinal approach. In the first case, after the objects, observed at each time, have been classified, comparison among the classifications made in different time instants will be done. In the second approach, we cluster the time trajectories of the objects; then, we obtain only one classification by comparing the instantaneous and evolutive features of the trajectories of the objects. In particular, in this work, the second approach is analyzed in detail, with reference to the so-called single and double step procedures. Geometric, correlative, instantaneous, evolutive and trend characteristics of the multivariate time arrays are taken into account in the different proposed clustering models. Furthermore, the fuzzy approach, that is particularly suitable in the dynamic classification problem, has been considered. Extensions of a cluster-validity criterion for the proposed fuzzy dynamic clustering models are also suggested. A socio-economic example concludes the paper.

The incidence of colon, rectal, and colorectal cancer is very high, and diagnosis is often made in the advanced stages of the disease. In cases where peritoneal carcinomatosis is limited, patients can benefit from newer treatment options if the disease is promptly identified, and they are referred to specialized centers. Therefore, an essential diagnostic benefit would be identifying those factors that could lead to early diagnosis. A retrospective study was performed using patient data gathered from 2010 to 2020. The collected data were represented by routine blood tests subjected to stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria. In order to determine the presence or absence of peritoneal carcinomatosis in colorectal cancer patients, three types of machine learning approaches were applied: a neuro-evolutive methodology based on artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machines (SVM), and random forests (RF), all combined with differential evolution (DE). The optimizer (DE in our case) determined the internal and structural parameters that defined the ANN, SVM, and RF in their optimal form. The RF strategy obtained the best accuracy in the testing phase (0.75). Using this RF model, a sensitivity analysis was applied to determine the influence of each parameter on the presence or absence of peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Since bladder tumours are showing an increasing incidence in the adult population, even in our region, and considering the radical therapy that they often require, the reason becomes clear why it is so important to understand as much as possible about the actual evolutive properties of every single tumour in every single patient. Endoscopic and morphologic features of a tumour are often insufficient to predict its biological behaviour, and it can often be successfully treated conservatively. Flow cytometry (FCM) gives a rapid and objective analysis of tumoral cell ploidy and proliferative activity. Many of the reports found in Literature indicate how FCM may give accurate interesting information concerning the biological characterisation and the clinical evolution of bladder tumours. For the XXXIII meeting of the Associazione Triveneta di Urologia, “Flow cytometry in bladder tumours” has been chosen as the main topic, because of the interesting role it might play in the knowledge of the biology of these tumours.

At present, traditional 3D modeling programs consist of a set of tools that reflect conventional means of mechanical manufacturing and have limitations in relation with the current manufacturing capacities. On the other hand, organic and morphing 3D modeling programs are designed to transform a model from one known shape to another also known shape. Generative design helps the designers to detach themselves during the design process and can provide them with completely unexpected geometrical solutions. In this paper, starting from 3D morphing techniques and genetic algorithms, a new methodology of product shape definition is developed, capable of imitating processes that occur in nature and aimed at creating new and different product designs. This methodology enables to overcome the limitations imposed by design fixation and allows better exploitation of the great possibilities granted by the new manufacturing techniques, most notably additive manufacturing. The initial process of research and information gathering gives this work a solid basis to develop the new methodology. The results of this initial process are briefly resumed in this paper in order to explain the main motivation for developing this work. The workflow of this methodology is presented as a theoretical process, since its implementation has not been, at least for the moment, put into practice. Before presenting the conclusion for this proposal, several examples have been formulated in order to help the reader to catch the point of the entire process.

Background: In the last years, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) have been integrated to support the pursuit of sustainability in the built environment. However, the integration of environmental information with different specificity and reliability requirements on distinct Levels of Development (LOD) of BIM objects was not yet exploited considering several environmental impact categories. Objective: The objective of this paper is to discuss the complexity and depth of LCA information needed for BIM objects, considering different LOD, and to propose a parametrisation of environmental information be included in BIM objects according to their LODs. Methods: A literature review on LCA methodology, sources of LCA information, integration of LCA in BIM, and LOD of BIM objects was initially performed, followed by a detailed characterisation of the different types of sources of LCA information to include in BIM models. These steps contributed to the development of the proposed parametrisation of environmental data. Results: A parametrisation of environmental information to be included in BIM objects was developed. This parametrisation considered the degree at which the element’s information has been specified (LOD) and the respective detail and reliability of the environmental information to include. Conclusion: A new approach is proposed that allows an evolutive integration of environmental information in BIM objects according to their growing LODs.

In the edge intelligence environment, multiple sensing devices perceive and recognize the current scene in real time to provide specific user services. However, the generalizability of the fixed recognition model will gradually weaken due to the time-varying perception scene. To ensure the stability of the perception and recognition service, each edge model/agent needs to continuously learn from the new perception data unassisted to adapt to the perception environment changes and jointly build the online evolutive learning (OEL) system. The generalization degradation problem can be addressed by deploying the semi-supervised learning (SSL) method on multi-view agents and continuously tuning each discriminative model by collaborative perception. This paper proposes a multi-view agent’s collaborative perception (MACP) semi-supervised online evolutive learning method. First, each view model will be initialized based on self-supervised learning methods, and each initialized model can learn differentiated feature-extraction patterns with certain discriminative independence. Then, through the discriminative information fusion of multi-view model predictions on the unlabeled perceptual data, reliable pseudo-labels are obtained for the consistency regularization process of SSL. Moreover, we introduce additional critical parameter constraints to continuously improve the discriminative independence of each view model during training. We compare our method with multiple representative multi-model and single-model SSL methods on various benchmarks. Experimental results show the superiority of the MACP in terms of convergence efficiency and performance. Meanwhile, we construct an ideal multi-view experiment to demonstrate the application potential of MACP in practical perception scenarios.

The purpose of this article is to analyze, based on the gathering of articles and bibliographies of the area, the evolutive aspects and the role of communication in marketing with the emergence of new media. Concepts such as Marketing, Marketing Mix, promotion/ communication, mass media and new media were studied, as well as the impact caused by technology. The analysis of this information allowed to chart a general framework with the main characteristics of both categories of media and the factors that contributed to this evolution, besides evaluating the challenges for communication in Marketing. The new media required a change in the role and thinking of Marketing, since impersonal communication gave way to interactivity. And it should be noted here that the Marketing area is striving to keep up with these changes.

Abstract In the standard four-dimensional variational data assimilation (4D-Var) algorithm the background error covariance matrix remains static over time. It may therefore be unable to correctly take into account the information accumulated by a system into which data are gradually being assimilated. A possible method for remedying this flaw is presented and tested in this paper. A hybrid variational-smoothing algorithm is based on a reduced-rank incremental 4D-Var. Its consistent coupling to a singular evolutive extended Kalman (SEEK) smoother ensures the evolution of the matrix. In the analysis step, a low-dimensional error covariance matrix is updated so as to take into account the increased confidence level in the state vector it describes, once the observations have been introduced into the system. In the forecast step, the basis spanning the corresponding control subspace is propagated via the tangent linear model. The hybrid method is implemented and tested in twin experiments employing a shallow-water model. The background error covariance matrix is initialized using an EOF decomposition of a sample of model states. The quality of the analyses and the information content in the bases spanning control subspaces are also assessed. Several numerical experiments are conducted that differ with regard to the initialization of the matrix. The feasibility of the method is illustrated. Since improvement due to the hybrid method is not universal, configurations that benefit from employing it instead of the standard 4D-Var are described and an explanation of the possible reasons for this is proposed.

The definition of Early Cholecystectomy (EC) is still debatable. This paper aims to find whether the timing of EC affects outcomes. The article reports a multicentric prospective observational study including patients with acute calculous cholecystitis (ACC) who had cholecystectomy within ten days from the onset of symptoms. Kruskall-Wallis test, Fisher’s Exact test, and Spearman rank correlation were used for statistical analysis. The patients were divided into three groups depending on the timing of the operation: 0–3 days, 4–7 days, or 8–10 days from the onset of symptoms. 1117 patients were studied over a year. The time from the onset of symptoms to EC did not affect the post-operative complications and mortality, the conversion, and the reintervention rate. The time represented a significant risk factor for intraoperative complications (0–3 days, 2.8%; 4–7 days, 5.6%; 8–10 days, 7.9%; p = 0.01) and subtotal cholecystectomies (0–3 days, 2.7%; 4–7 days, 5.6%; 8–10 days, 10.9%; p < 0.001). ACC is an evolutive inflammatory process and, as the days go by, the local and systemic inflammation increases, making surgery more complex and difficult with a higher risk of intraoperative complications. We recommend performing EC for ACC as soon as possible, within the first ten days of the onset of symptoms.

The Ipubi Formation of the Araripe Basin is an important gypsum reserve whose environment had resulted in the deposition of evaporites with narrow black shale lenses. The objective of the present work was to present the first occurrence of caridean for the dark shale levels of the Ipubi Formation. The specimen collected in the field and analyzed in the laboratory, although not achieving a detailed taxonomic determination, is a very important one because it is the first decapod crustacean found in this formation. We believe the specimen LPU-0918/A and B, is a caridean because of its second abdominal somite having a strongly rounded pleura in the base and it overlaps the first and the third. The knowledge about fossil shrimps is still sparse, and the information presented here can be valuable to the understanding of the evolutive history of the carideans.

INTRODUCTION: Epileptic manifestations of Neurocysticercosis (NC) appear to depend on number and localization of the cysts. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between CT findings, number of parasites and the evolutive stage of the cysts, and the prognosis of epilepsy in children with NC. METHOD: We studied 28 patients with the parenchymal form of NC, considering: epilepsy duration; seizure frequency before and after AED treatment; seizure control; number of AED and recurrence after AED withdrawal. Clinical information was crossed with the number of lesions and disease activity in univariate comparison. RESULTS: The analysis of the clinical data in relation to the number of lesions and disease activity showed no statistical difference among the variables (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: We conclude that the course of epilepsy due to NC in childhood cannot be based exclusively on the number or stage of the parasites.

Accounting has been evolving to follow the latest economic, political, social, and technological developments. Therefore, there is a need for researchers to also include in their research agenda the emerging topics in the accounting area. This exploratory paper selects technological matters in accounting as its research object, proposing a literature review that uses archival research as a method and content analysis as a technique. Using different tools for the assessment of qualitative data, this content analysis provides a summary of those papers, such as their main topics, most frequent words, and cluster analysis. A top journal was used as the source of information, namely The International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, given its scope, which links accounting and technological matters. Data from 2000 to 2022 was selected to provide an evolutive analysis since the beginning of this century, with a particular focus on the latest period. The findings indicate that the recent discussions and trending topics in accounting, including matters such as international regulation, the sustainable perspective in accounting, as well as new methods, channels, and processes for improving the entities’ auditing and reporting, have increased their relevance and influence, enriching the debate and future perspectives in combination with the use of new technologies. Therefore, this seems to be a path to follow as an avenue for future research. Notwithstanding, emerging technologies as a research topic seem to be slower or less evident than their apparent development in the accounting area. The findings from this paper are limited to a single journal and, therefore, this limitation must be considered in the context of those conclusions. Notwithstanding, its proposed analysis may contribute to the profession, academia, and the scientific community overall, enabling the identification of the state of the art of literature in the technological area of accounting.

There is little information available on the evolutive pattern of patients with movement disorders in developing countries. We analyzed 579 consecutive adults with movement disorders and prospectively evaluated them at our institution (Department of Neurological Sciences, Kennedy Clinic, Guayaquil, Ecuador) from 1990 to 2009. Mean age was 62.9±17.5 years, and 50.8% were men. Patients presented with tremor/rigidity (55%), involuntary movements (23.5%) and abnormalities of stance and gait (21.5%). Overall, 45% of our patients had degenerative disorders of the nervous system. We found significant increases in the relative prevalence of tremor/rigidity and abnormalities of stance and gait, and this reflected an increase in the number of patients with degenerative diseases over the study years. We found a dynamic pattern of movement disorders over the years. Today, causes and relative prevalence of these conditions in our population is more similar to that reported from the developed world than it was 20 years ago.

Condition monitoring is a fundamental part of machining, as well as other manufacturing processes where, generally, there are parts that wear out and have to be replaced. Devising proper condition monitoring has been a concern of many researchers, but there is still a lack of robustness and efficiency, most often hindered by the system’s complexity or otherwise limited by the inherent noisy signals, a characteristic of industrial processes. The vast majority of condition monitoring approaches do not take into account the temporal sequence when modelling and hence lose an intrinsic part of the context of an actual time-dependent process, fundamental to processes such as cutting. The proposed system uses a multisensory approach to gather information from the cutting process, which is then modelled by a recurrent neural network, capturing the evolutive pattern of wear over time. The system was tested with realistic cutting conditions, and the results show great effectiveness and accuracy with just a few cutting tests. The use of recurrent neural networks demonstrates the potential of such an approach for other time-dependent industrial processes under noisy conditions.

Decision-making Support Systems (DMSSs) have been traditionally designed and built by using mainly the Waterfall method, Prototyping-Evolutive, or Adaptive approach in the last three decades. In this paper, the authors argue that while such approaches have guided to DMSS developers, they have been also demanded for adding ad-hoc, non-standardized activities and extra techniques based on their own expertise due to the scarcity of open-access available information of them. Additionally, from a Software Systems Engineering (SSE) viewpoint, such approaches cannot be considered as well-defined methodologies. This article contributes to the research stream of SSE-based DMSS development methodologies by reporting an initial empirical evaluation of IDSSE-M, a free-access methodology for designing and building Intelligent Decision Support Systems. IDSSE-M extends and adapts Turban and Aronson’s DSS Building Paradigm (open access), and Saxena’s Decision Support Engineering Methodology (proprietary). IDSSE-M offers DMSS developers at least a moderate level of usefulness, compatibility, and results demonstrability, which leads to a positive, good and beneficial attitude of using the methodology.

Autism spectrum disorder is characterized by the presence of particularities over neural networks of the information flexible transmission, which affects the perceptual-cognitive and socio-behavioural levels of the disorder. This research appoints a longitudinal Single Case Study performed throughout 32 years, structured in five intervals-evolutionary phases (0–4.5; 4.6–9: 9.1–12; 12.1–16.5; 16.6–32 years-old), that confirms the importance of the influence of neural networks variable on criteria that had enclosed to disorder symptomatic group. The successive differential changes through the five phases of analysis, in relation to the variables “perceptive”, “social” and “behaviour” of the analysis found highly significant, which have been found through the Friedman comparative test; while the “nodes” variable has remained constant, with high evolutive development level. Likewise, it has been shown by Pearson correlation analysis, the variables relationship is significantly related at .1 critical level. The conclusions confirm that variable related to nodal relationships "nodes" decisively influences the evolutionary improvement to other variables investigated, that has been progressively modified the symptomatic group of the disorder to this Case Study. The fundamental conclusion has been suggested that neuropsychological variables of processing, especially related to the functional ability to relational networks of information processing must be exhaustively complemented to the socio-behavioural criteria along the disorder evaluation process to avoid possible initial errors in the diagnostic conclusions.

Background: Since its outbreak in 2019, Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)/Severe Acu-te Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was a serious medical threat and was declared Global Pandemic, triggering fear, panic and uncertainty for people around the Globe. Among those individuals, there is a specific category of patients – the ones with immune-mediated rheumatic diseases (IMIDs) – whose mantra from the diagnosis was to avoid infections at all costs because of the additional negative impact on the immune sys-tem and overall reactivity. Objective: Considering the aforementioned, our objective is to understand the in-depth relation of the immune system of patients with IMIDs in the set-ting of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and the real bur-den of the disease and vaccination against COVID-19. Materials and Methods: In this res-pect, we have conducted a thoroughly systematic literature review according to the “Prefer-red Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA)” concept. Following its five-steps algorithm, we first selected 745 articles that were published in re-putable international medical databases, ISI-indexed, for the period 1 January, 2021–31 December, 2022. After consequent elimination of duplicates, of articles that were not En-glish-written and “open access” and then applying PEDro classification/scoring-inspired, only 58 articles were selected for in-depth full qualitative reading. In the last stage,20 arti-cles were “excluded with reasons”, because they didn’t offer significant information. The-refore, in our systematic literature review, 38 articles were included. Results: In the data gathered in this review we described the molecular pathways of activation of the immune system triggered by COVID-19, with significance on the clinical and paraclinical aspects of IMID patients infected with the new Coronavirus. Patients with IMIDs are at higher risk for hospitalization if diagnosed with SARS-CoV2 and more prone to severe outcomes and death. Risk factors associated with severe outcomes and death are: age, comorbidities, un-derlying disease activity, therapies used (“the good” being anti-tumor necrosis factor α, “the bad” – Methotrexate, Sulfasalazine, Azathioprine and “the ugly” – anti CD20 mono-clonal antibodies). There were several reports of flares and new-onset of IMIDs after CO-VID-19 and after vaccination against this disease, but data from larger studies and registri-es do not confirm higher incidence of flare-ups or new-onset IMIDs. Regarding vaccination, of mounting importance is the timing between immunomodulatory and immunosuppres-sive agents and the administration of the vaccine. And last but not the least, we discussed about Long COVID and the role of artificial intelligence in the pandemic and related-drug development. Discussion and Conclusion: The data in our systematic literature review is consistent with the expertise from our clinical practice. This article is the first part of the doctoral study that is centralized on the same topics, with the current objective of deepe-ning the knowledge about the intersection of COVID-19/SARS-CoV2 and immune-mediated rheumatic diseases and a future objective: to compare information we have synthetized here with our database of almost 170 Romanian patients with a IMID and COVID-19/SARS-CoV2. Background Changing health behaviors, such as smoking, unhealthy eating, inactivity, and alcohol abuse, may have a greater impact on population health than any curative strategy. One of the suggested strategies is the use of behavioral intervention technologies (BITs). They open up new opportunities in the area of prevention and therapy and have begun to show benefits in the durable change of health behaviors in patients or those at risk. A consensual and international paradigm was adopted by health authorities for drugs 50 years ago. It guides their development from research units to their authorization and surveillance. BITs’ generalization brings into question their upstream evaluation before being placed on the market and their downstream monitoring once on the market; this is especially the case in view of the marketing information provided by manufacturers and the scarcity and methodological limits of scientific studies on these tools. Objective This study aims to identify and categorize the frameworks for the validation and monitoring of BITs proposed in the literature. Methods We conducted a narrative literature review using MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and Web of Science. The review items included the following: name, publication year, name of the creator (ie, first author), country, funding organization, health focus, target group, and design (ie, linear, iterative, evolutive, and/or concurrent). The frameworks were then categorized based on (1) translational research thanks to a continuum of steps and (2) the three paradigms that may have inspired the frameworks: biomedical, engineering, and/or behavioral. Results We identified 46 frameworks besides the classic US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) five-phase drug development model. A total of 57% (26/46) of frameworks were created in the 2010s and 61% (28/46) involved the final user in an early and systematic way. A total of 4% (2/46) of frameworks had a linear-only sequence of their phases, 37% (17/46) had a linear and iterative structure, 33% (15/46) added an evolutive structure, and 24% (11/46) were associated with a parallel process. Only 12 out of 46 (26%) frameworks covered the continuum of steps and 12 (26%) relied on the three paradigms. Conclusions To date, 46 frameworks of BIT validation and surveillance coexist, besides the classic FDA five-phase drug development model, without the predominance of one of them or convergence in a consensual model. Their number has increased exponentially in the last three decades. Three dangerous scenarios are possible: (1) anarchic continuous development of BITs that depend on companies amalgamating health benefits and usability (ie, user experience, data security, and ergonomics) and limiting implementation to several countries; (2) the movement toward the type of framework for drug evaluation centered on establishing its effectiveness before marketing authorization to guarantee its safety for users, which is heavy and costly; and (3) the implementation of a framework reliant on big data analysis based on a posteriori research and an autoregulation of a market, but that does not address the safety risk for the health user, as the market will not regulate safety or efficacy issues. This paper recommends convergence toward an international validation and surveillance framework based on the specificities of BITs, not equivalent to medical devices, to guarantee their effectiveness and safety for users.

In this study, we performed a diagnostic and evolutive analysis of the bioclimatology of the Canary Islands, an Atlantic archipelago where the climate itself is a main feature promoting tourism. Among all the tourist-climate indices described in the literature, we evaluated the most widely used, which is the Tourism Climate Index (TCI) proposed by Mieczkowski (1985). Monthly mean TCI time series were calculated using meteorological data from the Spanish State Meteorological Agency database and the European Climate Assessment and Dataset. Our results show TCI values greater than 50 during almost every month in the period 1950–2018, with mean values over the entire time series between 70 and 80. According to the TCI classification scheme, these values correspond to a very good thermal comfort along all of the period. Our results also point to spring as the season with the best TCI, with maximum values around 80 for this index in April—excellent according to the TCI classification. However, we did not find a correlation between inbound arrivals and the TCI index, which might point to a lack of information available to tourists. This opens an opportunity for policymakers and tour operators to better publicize the best seasons for holidays in the islands.

The ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) is widely used for sequential data assimilation. It operates as a succession of forecast and analysis steps. In realistic large-scale applications, EnKFs are implemented with small ensembles and poorly known model error statistics. This limits their representativeness of the background error covariances and, thus, their performance. This work explores the efficiency of the one-step-ahead (OSA) smoothing formulation of the Bayesian filtering problem to enhance the data assimilation performance of EnKFs. Filtering with OSA smoothing introduces an updated step with future observations, conditioning the ensemble sampling with more information. This should provide an improved background ensemble in the analysis step, which may help to mitigate the suboptimal character of EnKF-based methods. Here, the authors demonstrate the efficiency of a stochastic EnKF with OSA smoothing for state estimation. They then introduce a deterministic-like EnKF-OSA based on the singular evolutive interpolated ensemble Kalman (SEIK) filter. The authors show that the proposed SEIK-OSA outperforms both SEIK, as it efficiently exploits the data twice, and the stochastic EnKF-OSA, as it avoids observational error undersampling. They present extensive assimilation results from numerical experiments conducted with the Lorenz-96 model to demonstrate SEIK-OSA’s capabilities.

Maria Montessori's educational proposal had a revolutionary significance since its origins. It freed childhood from the raising social marginalization to a "golden age". In a period marked by widespread national-popular illiteracy, a "New Education" originated exactly among the poorest social classes, represented a valuable tool for the literacy and regimentation of the masses to the rising fascist ideology. Montessori avoided it, paying with obstructionism and discredit. However, even today, Montessorian theory keeps on gaining credit as a "pedagogy of resistance" to the technical and technological revolution of information and communication. She is not even adverse to the use of technology in daily life or in education. Far from stopping the technical progress and the social technological literacy, it is a question of stemming the educational deprivation of the young people experience, rediscovering an active, direct and participative learning, with a specific attention to the early childhood. Experience offers a good and attractive alternative to the standstill caused by the overuse of the mass communication means. Preserving the 0-3 years children from the early abuse of technology, provides a "dilating education" of childhood's fields of experience and evolutive possibilities. In this way the child is ready to approach the technologies, in order to enjoy without suffering their growing capacities.

Context. The Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2) was used to select a sample of 211 central stars of planetary nebulae (CSPNe) with good-quality astrometric measurements, which we refer to as Golden Astrometry Planetary Nebulae (GAPN). Gaia astrometric and photometric measurements allowed us to derive accurate distances and radii and to calculate luminosities with the addition of self-consistent literature values. Such information was used to plot the position of these stars in a Hertzsprung-Russel diagram and to study their evolutionary status in comparison with the evolutionary tracks of CSPNe. Aims. The extremely precise measurement of parallaxes and proper motions in Gaia DR2 has allowed us to search for wide binary companions in a region close to each of the central stars in the GAPN sample. We are interested in establishing the presence of binary companions at large separations which could allow to contribute additional information on the influence of binarity on the formation and evolution of planetary nebulae. We aim to study the evolutive properties of the binary pairs to check the consistency of spectral types and masses in order to better constrain the ages and evolutionary stage of the CSPNe. Methods. We limited our search to a region around 20 000 AU of each CSPN to minimise accidental detections. We only considered stars with reasonably good parallax and proper motions data, that is, with errors below 30% in DR2. We determined that the hypothetical binary pairs should show a statistically significant agreement for the three astrometric quantities, that is, parallax and both components of the proper motions. Results. We found eight wide binary systems among our GAPN sample, including one in a triple system. We compiled the astrometric and photometric measurements of these binary systems and discussed them in relation to previously published searches for binaries in PNe. By analysing the position in the HR diagram of the companion stars using Gaia photometry, we are able to estimate their temperatures, luminosities, masses and, for one star, the evolutionary age. The derived quantities yield a consistent scenario when compared with the corresponding values as obtained for the central stars using stellar evolutionary models in the postAGB phase.

The main aim of this work is to depict the interconnection of the most relvantformal concepts of modal logic and category theory, i.e., bisimulation andduality, arising from the mathematical analysis of physical processes and toshow their relevance with respect to some foundational issues related to the actual ontological debates. Current foundamental physics concerns the non-linear thermodynamics of the quantum eld, whose range is made of far from equilibrium systems and whose basic mechanism of symmetries (patterns) formation supposes the spontaneous breaking of symmetries (SBS). SBS implies that such systems reach unpredictable states. Thus, evolutive and/or far from equilibrium systems are to be conceived primarily as processes and just in a secondary way as objects, for the information they display is always incomplete with respect to their evolution. Formally, this is due to their non-linear mathematical behaviour. This make a question about the ontology of such systems, given thatthe actual most widespread ontologies conceive existent entities just as objects(actualist ontologies). It is claimed that the fundamental dierence and advantage of category theoretic approach to foundation is that, instead of considering objects and operations for what they 'are', as it is in set theory, in and through category theory we are considering them for what they 'do'. This, of course, would constitute a signicative shifting in mathematical philosophy and in foundationof mathematical physics: from a Platonic to an Aristotelian ontology ofmathematics (and, then, of physics). Actually, providing a contribution to thisvery shift is what this paper want to be focused on. In fact, the implicit pointthe present investigation is concerned with is how to treat the potential innite:the modalization of the existence of each object of the domain of quanticationmeans a potentially innite variation of the domain of quantication. The Aristotelian notion of potentiality diers with the usual one (employed by Platonism and/or formalism and/or conceptualism) inasmuch it does not presupposes any actuality. For instance, it is well known that the Platonic presupposition of set theory consists in the fact "that each potential innite, if it is rigorously applicable mathematically, presupposes an actual innite" [Hallett (1984, p. 25)]. In turn, the formalist notion of (absolute) completeness derives directly from that, if only for the actuality of the information a formal system was intended to dispaly.

In fish, the larval stage constitutes the most vulnerable phase in the life cycle and reveals important ecological and evolutive information of fish and fundamental data to manage marine ecosystems. However, their identity is one of the biggest gaps in knowledge, particularly for the Microgobius genus, where only three of 15 species have been described. In this study, the larval development of Microgobius tabogensis was described based on 116 specimens (2.75-14.20 mm standard length) from Ensenada de La Paz, Mexico. The typical gobiid body shape characterized larvae, a well-developed dorsally pigmented gas bladder, a curve at the hindgut, and 27 myomeres. The pigmentation pattern in M. tabogensis consisted of a series of melanophores along the ventral postanal midline, increasing from three to seven during the preflexion stage and up to 16 in the postflexion stage. It had three to five melanophores on the ventral preanal midline, one at the jaw angle and one on the dorsal postanal midline. Through all stages, one of the ventral melanophores was normally stellate, bigger than the others, and extended between the myomeres. A dorsal melanophore was located near the end of the intestine in the preflexion stage but disappeared with growth. Notochord flexion started at approximately 4.3 mm and ended at 5.1 mm. Anal fin development started at the beginning of the flexion stage, followed by the dorsal fin. All elements of the fins were formed by the late postflexion stage (14.2 mm).

Abstract By using our natural resources, and through inefficient use of energy, we produce much waste that can be recycled as a useful resource, which further contributes to climate change. This study aims to address energy effective bioclimatic architecture principles, by which we can achieve a potential energy savings, estimated at thirty-three per cent, mainly through environmentally affordable reconstruction, resulting in low negative impact on the environment. The study presented in this paper investigated the Ulpiana neighbourhood of Prishtina City, focusing on urban design challenges, energy efficiency and air pollution issues. The research methods consist of empirical observations through the urban spatial area using a comparative method, in order to receive clearer data and information research is conducted within Ulpiana’s urban blocks, shapes of architectural structures, with the objective focusing on bioclimatic features in terms of the morphology and microclimate of Ulpiana. Energy supply plays a key role in the economic development of any country, hence, bioclimatic design principles for sustainable architecture and energy efficiency, present an evolutive integrated strategy for achieving efficiency and healthier conditions for Kosovar communities. Conceptual findings indicate that with the integrated design strategy: energy efficiency, and passive bioclimatic principles will result in a bond of complex interrelation between nature, architecture, and community. The aim of this study is to promote structured organized actions to be taken in Prishtina, and Kosovo, which will result in improved energy efficiency in all sectors, and particularly in the residential housing sector.

The concept of ‘resilience’ breaks down silos by providing a ‘conceptual umbrella’ under which different disciplines come together to tackle complex problems with more holistic interventions. Acknowledging the complexity of Davoudi’s approach (2012) means to recognize that ‘spatial resilience’ is influenced by many phenomena that are difficult to measure: the adaptation and transformation of a co-evolutive system. This paper introduces a pioneering approach that is propaedeutic to the spatial measure of urban resilience assuming that it is possible to define a system as being intrinsically vulnerable to stress and shocks and minimally resilient, as described by Folke in 2006. In this sense, vulnerability is counterpoised to resilience, even if they act simultaneously: the first includes the exposure to a specific hazard, whereas the second emerges from the characteristics of a complex socio-ecological and technical system. Here we present a Geographic Information System-based vulnerability matrix performed in ESRI ArcGIS 10.6 environment as an output of the spatial interaction between sensitivities, shocks, and linear pressures of the urban system. The vulnerability is the first step of measuring the resilience of the system by a semi-quantitative approach. The spatial interaction of these measures is useful to define the interventions essential to designing and building the adaptation of the built environment by planning governance. Results demonstrate how mapping resilience aids the spatial planning decision-making processes, indicating where and what interventions are necessary to adapt and transform the system.

Abstract The clinical course of CLL is heterogeneous and presence or absence of IgVH somatic mutations has been correlated with stable and evolutive disease respectively. ZAP-70 protein expression was shown to be associated with unmutated IgVH genes in CLL and was proposed as a surrogate for mutational status. Recent studies of large number of cases have shown various percentage of discrepancy with respect to ZAP-70 expression and IgVH mutational status. As aggressive disease is not always associated with unmutated IgVH genes we aimed at better characterize the ZAP-70 discordant cases by determining the other prognostic factors such as cytogenetics, expression of CD38 and proliferation markers (thymidine kinase and sCD23). We investigated 292 patients with previously untreated B-CLL. Although several antiZAP-70 antibodies adapted to flow cytometry (FCM) are commercially available, staining procedure and interpretation of the results still remain controversial. Therefore, ZAP-70 expression was determined in the four participating centers by the same FCM method using the 2F3.2 mAb with indirect staining, and expression of the results was standardized. Moreover, ZAP-70 expression was investigated by RQ-PCR in 62 cases and by Western blot in 61 further cases on isolated B cells. The results obtained with these techniques were correlated with FCM data. ZAP-70 was found expressed in 141 cases, among which 38 cases (27%) exhibited ≥2% somatic mutations. Conversely, among the 151 ZAP-70 negative cases, only 6 cases (4%) were found unmutated (≥ 98% VH homology). We focused on the characteristics of the mutated ZAP-70 positive cases. Only 26/38 were in stage A at diagnosis. Incidence of CD38 expression >10% B cells was low (7/28 cases). Analysis of VH sequences pointed to the frequency of VH3-21 usage in 8/38 cases (21%) as compared to an expected 3% frequency in the French population. FISH analysis identified one case with del11q22.3, one case with del17p and two cases with trisomy 12. Del13q14 was present in half of cases. Proliferation markers were significantly higher in these cases than in ZAP-70 negative mutated cases, even among stage A patients. Follow-up of these patients is still too short for significant event free survival as compared with other groups of patients but the number of evolutive Binet stage A patients and advanced B and C stages was already higher than among the ZAP negative mutated cases. In conclusion, in our hands, ZAP-70 was almost always expressed in unmutated cases (103/109). Among mutated cases, ZAP-70 expression was present in 38/183 cases (21%), and brought prognostic information, independently of CD38 or chromosomal alterations. The correlation between ZAP-70 and proliferation markers suggests that ZAP-70 expression may result in a survival advantage of the malignant cells independently of the mutational status.

From an evolutive perspective, tumor cells endure successive turnover upon stress conditions and pressure to adapt to new environments. These cells use exceptional communication skills to share biological information to “survive upon every metabolic cost”. The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a miscellaneous collection of cells, factors, and extracellular vesicles (EVs). EVs are small lipid bilayer-delimited particles derived from cells with sizes ranging from 100 to 1000 nm. Exosomes (<160 nm) are the minor subtype of EVs, originating from the endosomal pathways. The TME also contains “giant” vesicles, microvesicles (100–1000 nm, MV), originated from membrane blebbing. EVs can act as intercellular communication mediators, contributing to many biological processes, by carrying different biomolecules, such as proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and metabolites. EV secretion can promote either tumor cell survival or manage their stress to death. Tumor-derived EVs transfer adaptative stress signaling to recipient cells, reprograming these cells. Heat shock proteins (HSP) are prominent stress response regulators, specifically carried by exosomes. HSP-loaded EVs reprogram tumor and TME cells to acquire mechanisms contributing to tumor progression and therapy resistance. The intercellular communication mediated by HSP-loaded EVs favors the escape of tumor cells from the endoplasmic reticulum stress, hypoxia, apoptosis, and anticancer therapies. Extracellular HSPs activate and deactivate the immune response, induce cell differentiation, change vascular homeostasis, and help to augment the pre-metastatic niche formation. Here we explore EVs’ mechanisms of HSP transmission among TME cells and the relevance of these intercellular communications in resistance to therapy.
