PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the challenges before India for electric vehicle (EV) adoption by 2030. The study further looks into the measures taken by the Government of India (GOI) to promote research and development in EV sector and what is yet to be done.Design/methodology/approachIn the present study, the challenges are identified allied to the commercialization of EVs in India. The data are collected, analyzed and compiled through secondary sources. The secondary data give a concise insight and comprehensive information regarding what is occurring around the globe as well as in the Indian context. Further, the challenges are investigated through a focus group study consisting of 11 participants from industry and academia.FindingsThe findings from the study are the critical roles of sharing economy and public utilities in the promotion of EV adoption, given the high cost of EV, lack of infrastructure and poor purchasing power of Indian customers. The sharing economy perspective provides various opportunities for the government to manage the resources (electric-powered transport system) optimally. Further, the study compares the global perspective in assigning the target figures.Research limitations/implicationsThe study highlights the facilitating role of the shared format in EV technology promotion but ignores the hurdles that can come in its implementations. Also, the focus group study has its limitation as it relies more on participants' perceptions and opinions.Originality/valueThe present study assists GOI and various stakeholders in having a realistic plan rather than daydreaming with overambitious goals. The diffusion of technology as a shared format (especially in the context of EV) has not been academically approached in the past literature.

India's commitment to Electric Vehicles (EV) is a prime program furthering the country's achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 7. However, in spite of the much-needed policy push, EV adoption in India has been slow, both in private ownership and in public mobility. The average Indian commuter still depends heavily on public transport such as public buses, railways and rickshaws. Thus, the success of the EV transition in India lies in the speed with which e-vehicles can be developed and adopted in public transport solutions. This study assesses the feasibility of converting the public transport fleet (buses and 3 wheelers) into e-vehicles for the city of Pune. Pune records high per capita private vehicle ownership, resulting in high traffic congestion, traffic indiscipline issues and high vehicular fatalities. It is thus imperative that not only should public transport usage increase in the city, but it should also be electric, such that sustainability goals are achieved. This study presents a techno-economic analysis of greening Pune's public transport fleet. This paper begins with section 1, which introduces the EV landscape in India. Section 2 details the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) framework, which evaluates financial costs associated with EVs in public transport fleets. Section 3 presents model results from the TCO analysis. Payback calculations are also presented to understand the minimum number of years to realise EV investment payback. Section 4 finally concludes this paper by presenting demand-side and supply-side interventions for a speedy EV transition for public transport fleets in Pune Metro Region.

Abstract: The cost effective and less polluting electric powered vehicle market is progressing in India. Vehicle associations are changing the vehicle business, making creative new variation cars. The EV market is developing quickly and the upcoming models, developments forecasted is to be greater. Pre-existing vehicle producers know about this change and are attempting to uncover new “half and a half” or electric vehicle model. Created nations like the United Kingdom and France have been wanting to disallow diesel and petroleum vehicle deals from 2040. Specialists recommend that Europe's new vehicle deals will probably be all-electric in five years in short order. There is increasing responsibilities and contest among driving vehicle producers and organizations inside the car business. Nations like Norway are meeting fast movement in the market. In Norway's new vehicles deals in 2017 December, practically 30% vehicles dispersed are powered electrically. Energy specialists accept business sectors of China and India will drive vehicle interest and because of less fossil fuel by-product challenges, EV advancement will be high on these nations' political plans. Many organizations are intending to present EV charging focuses as the EV industry development is expanding.

The automobile sector is a promising avenue for enhancing energy security, economic opportunity, and air quality in India. Before penetrating a large number of electric vehicles (EV) into the power grid, a thorough investigation and assessment of significant parameters are required, as additional nonlinear and EV loads are linked to the decentralized market. Many automobile companies have already invested in electric vehicle research; hence, a detailed analysis on range anxiety and grid connectivity concerns are the important factors affecting the future of the electric vehicle industry. In this paper, the initial review is about the decentralized market in India and sustainable aspects of electric mobility based on the Indian context, as it is a developing nation with an enormous resource and scope for EV markets. With recent literature from the last three years, the substantial constraints observed in benefits and challenges are reviewed. The financial stability aspects and the incentives to overcome the barriers to EV adoption are briefly discussed. From the review, it has come to the limelight that infrastructure availability, technology, load demand, and consumer behaviour are all major obstacles in the electric vehicle ecosystem. For the overall design and study of the vehicle to grid (V2G) infrastructure, this paper also provides insight into the representation of electric vehicles in different energy-efficient models and their categorization while connecting to the grid. The methodology adopted for energy-efficient models includes lifecycle emissions, economy, smart charging, real-time optimization, aggregated EV resource modelling, and a support vector machine (SVM)-based method. This paper gives a positive impact on EV fleet integration and electric mobility in general, as it critically reviews the influential parameters and challenges. This classification depends on crucial parameters that are at the frontline of EV grid integration research. This review is a solution to enhance grid stability in regard to new EV models. With the advanced electric motors development and renewed battery technology models, longer-distance automobiles are now available on the market. This paper investigates the constraints of EV grid integration and analyzes different EV models to ease the grid stability for a decentralized market.

With current research, dwindling fossil fuels supplies and rising prices, an alternative source of energy to power motor vehicle is urgently required. Auto industry sectors are leading the charge in the field of electrical vehicles, which they see as a long-term answer for both the auto industry & the environment in India. EV presence in on Indian roadways is quite minimal in the current market context, despite the fact that the Indian government is enacting EV laws. The main rationale for the Indian government’s support for the EV policy is that electrical vehicles reduce reliance on oil, reduce greenhouse gas emission, and improve air quality. The biggest contaminant has been identified as coming from metropolitan areas. As a result, it is critical that residents of these cities recognise the importance of doing their part to minimise the consumption of life-threatening gases and pollutants. The goal of this study was to look at “Consumer perception of Electrical Vehicles in India.” Despite the fact that research in this subject is progressively gathering up steam, it remains one of India’s most overlooked segments.

In recent years, electric vehicles have been gaining momentum globally with advances being made in policies, technology and infrastructure. While the world may be rapidly moving towards quick adoption of electric cars, the world’s largest growing market presently, India has a different take on it. In Indian context, the first wave of EV penetration will start in two-wheeler and three-wheeler industry, as they constitute around 80 percent of the vehicles. In this thesis, we analyze the electric two-wheeler industry in India, perform strategic analysis on one of the leading electric two-wheeler OEMs (Hero Electric) and highlight the opportunities for Taiwan businesses entering Indian EV industry. Furthermore, a primary survey is conducted about consumer perception and purchase intention of electric scooters. Based on the primary survey results and the secondary research, detailed recommendations are presented to the key players & startups of electric two-wheeler industry in India.

It has been observed that AQI of different regions in India is increasing, which is further degrading the environment. Internal combustion engines are major contributors in these phenomena. Electric Vehicles could be one of the solutions to limit this problem. This project is about sustainability of Electric Vehicles in India. In this project, I have tried to cover different perspectives for sustainability of Electric Vehicles in India. Those perspectives covered are environmental sustainability, economic sustainability, and social sustainability and consumer preferences for EV adoption in India. Along with literature review, domain expert interviews have been conducted to understand the challenges and solutions with respect to environmental, economical and social sustainability. A Google form was generated to understand consumer preferences, which have been analyzed through SPSS and PowerBI dashboard. The sampling techniques being used are simple random sampling and snowball sampling for over 112 participants. All the responses have been taken on 7 pointer likert scale, covering both positive and negative view points. Statistical techniques being incorporated are descriptive analysis, mean comparison and factor analysis. On the dashboard, different gauges have been used to understand strength of different factors with respect to different segments. It has been observed that there is high sustainability of electric vehicles in India, if following challenges can be minimized:  High cost of Electric vehicles  Cell voltage balancing of EV batteries  Lack of charging infrastructure  High electricity demand  Lack of awareness  Mismatch between customer demands and EV offering with respect to different segments of Indian consumers.

Electric Vehicles are nothing new and we all have heard about how it is the future in recent past but are all these speculations hold enough weight, is the electric Vehicles infrastructure going to be in the scheme of things of our current governments or future governments. In this particular report, I will try to explain what is Electric Vehicle, how did it arrive and what the future hold for EVs in India. The objective of this research paper is to gain a better understanding and evaluate the current scenario of Electronic Vehicles manufacturer in adopting future regulatory measures which would be provided by the government, what are the problems that the Electric Vehicles manufacturer will face, how the government would try to help firms in this direction, such as policies that might be beneficial to the average consumer in buying an EV compared to a traditional gas vehicle. And the policies which might encourage new firms in India as well as International firms to try to create manufacturing plants and other investment in Electric Vehicles in Indian Market. This research paper will also discuss the various problems that the country might face in the transition from traditional vehicles to Electric Vehicles, how the mindset of Indian people is transitioning into becoming more open minded and how it might help them for the adoption of Electric Vehicles in the Future. I conducted a small survey to better understand the various perceptions and attitudes of the possibilities for new technologies in automobiles, especially electric vehicles. It was difficult to forecast future demand for EVs because it demanded assessing consumer preferences for a product that they had never seen before. As a result, we concentrated on evaluating respondents' familiarity with EV technologies, as well as their views on price, model, choice, fueling, connectivity, and maintenance expenses, as well as the consumer's perceived fit of an Electric vehicle in his or her lifestyle depending on a wide number of demographic parameters.

The existing research advocating entrepreneurship as an important way to increase the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) in developing countries and EV charging business is also playing a crucial role in increasing the adoption of EVs. EV charging is important for EV adoption, and entrepreneurship is also important for EV adoption; therefore, it is important that we must understand what mobilizes or prevents EV charging entrepreneurship. This chapter aimed at explaining drivers of EV charging entrepreneurship. A survey of 121 potential entrepreneurs shows that personal attitude, self-confidence, and opportunity perceptions shape the decision to engage in EV charging entrepreneurship. Policy measures to boost EV charging entrepreneurship have been suggested.

Abstract When one looks back at the year that went by and what it meant for EVs in India, it largely epitomized chaos and confusion on the policy front. It was a time when fence-sitters were still wondering if it is the right time to get into the EV business. However, some of the old diehards like Sun Mobility. Hero Electric and Mahindra & Mahindra continued to fiercely pursue their passion as if they had already factored policy indecisiveness into their strategies! It was also a year when start-ups such as Ather, Zoomcar, Vogo, and Lithium Balance aggressively ventured into the development of differentiated products as well as into smart connectivity, bike sharing/rental, bike taxis, and deliveries. New and big names from unrelated businesses right from the Essel group and Modis to the Mittals and Kalyanis also brushed the fringes of the EV arena with their foot-in-the-door strategies.

An attempt has been made in the paper to present the control strategies and operation of large interconnected power systems having automatic generation control (AGC). Power systems such as industrial-plants have certain uncertainties and load deviations due to the multi variable operating conditions. The prevailing situation of the power sector in India is also reviewed with regard to the transmission systems, operational process, automation of the interconnected power systems and control systems. This work reviews the AGC strategy employed at different levels in the generating units employing wind power, energy storage systems using batteries and the micro grids. Different intelligent techniques such as simulated annealing (SA), fuzzy logic-based optimization (FL), particle swarm optimization (PSO), genetic algorithm (GA), ant-colony optimization (ACO), artificial neural networks (ANN) based optimization have been considered for application. AGC application in PV power station and its operation with EV has also been examined. The findings of the study reveals that a level of communication should essentially be established among the various subsystem and AGC for optimally establishing the distributed and allocated control of interconnected power system and for the achievement of better control performance.

The growing concern about fossil energy exhaustion, air pollution, and ecological deprivation has made electric vehicles (EVs) a practical option in contrast to combustion engine-driven vehicles. In any case, driving extent uneasiness is one of the innate inadequacies related with EVs. Massive integration of EV charging load into the power system may be a threat to the distribution network. Spontaneous situation of charging stations in the distribution system and uncoordinated charging will augment the load demand thereby resulting in voltage instability, deterioration of reliability indices, harmonic distortions, and escalated power losses. This chapter will concentrate on breaking down the effect of EV chargers on the working parameters, for example, voltage dependability, unwavering quality, and force misfortune. The examination will be completed on standard test systems. The discoveries of the proposed part will evaluate the effect of EV charging load on the working parameters of the distribution system and help in proposing a framework for charging station planning.
