In this thesis, we have studied the electrical and thermal transport properties of the non-centrosymmetric compound EuPtSi, at low temperatures and under magnetic field. The first part of the results focus on the low-field (H < 5 T) magnetic phases that are observed in EuPtSi below the ordering temperature T = 4.1 K for the three main directions H ∥ [110], H ∥ [111] and H ∥ [100]. From the angular dependence of the resistivity under magnetic field, we confirmed the presence of anomalous phases: for the direction H ∥ [111] the so-called skyrmion lattice A-phase, and for the H ∥ [100] direction the skyrmion-related A’ and B phases. By studying these phases with various transport probes, we have established the magnetic phase diagram with precision. We have also evidenced the presence of additional anomalies at low-temperature related to the skyrmion phases. Our temperature-dependent results for the H ∥ [111] and H ∥ [100] evidence the metastable behavior of the A, A’ and B phases under field cooling. From the peculiar metastable state for the H ∥ [100] direction, further field sweeps show that both the A’ and the B phases are created simultaneously through the same mechanism. From transport measurements as a function of temperature, we also show the existence of a non-Fermi liquid behavior in the conical ordered state. The second part of our results focus on the Fermi surface of EuPtSi, studied with quantum oscillations in the thermoelectric power for high fields (H > 6 T). The temperature dependence of the quantum oscillations recovers the effective mass of the carriers for each Fermi surface branch, with results comparable to the literature. From the field-dependence of the quantum oscillations, we have recovered the Dingle temperature and mean-free path of the carriers using a new analysis framework for the thermoelectric power

Abstract: An index of erosivity rainfall that can stand out and assist in the estimation of soil erosion is highly desirable. The EI30 parameter is the most widely used in the world; however, many national papers have proved the effectiveness of models that involve the runoff. This study was carried out between December 2012 to August/2014, in the Experimental Unit of Aquidauana (MS), State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS), in a Dystrofic Tropustult. A set of 92 individual erosive rainfalls were selected for the calculation of the erosivity models and collected the data of soil losses and runoff from the unit plot. Erosivity parameters from rainfall, runoff and rainfall-runoff were analyzed through simple linear regression, multiple and non-linear, with the purpose of: (a) define the erosivity factor for individual rainfalls in an attempt to evaluate the efficiency between the parameters from rainfall, runoff and rainfall-runoff, aiming to improve the use of the USLE, MUSLE and RUSLE local, and (b) determine the factor erodibility for the soil of unit plot. Therefore, it was concluded that: 1) In the context of USLE, the Wischmeier and Smith EI30 was conveniently suited for predicting soil losses of individual erosive rainfalls local. Thus, Aquidauana erosion can be calculated using the expression: A*=3.7323+3.1171.10-2 .EI30, and erosivity rainfall factor shall be calculated using erosivity index rainfall EI30; 2) By the other hand, in the context of MUSLE and RUSLE, the local ...

ABSTRACT - The integration of methods for calculating soil loss caused by water erosion using a geoprocessing system is important to enable investigations of soil erosion over large areas. GIS-based procedures have been used in soil erosion studies; however in most cases it is difficult to integrate the functionality in a single system tool to compute all soil loss factors. We developed a system able to combine all factors of the Universal Soil Loss Equation with the computer functionality of a GIS. The GISus-M provides tools to compute the topographic factor (LS-factor) and cover and management (Cfactor) from methods using remote sensing data. The calculation of the topographic factor within a geographic information system (GIS) requires not only a great resolution of digital elevation model (DEM), but also a vertical accuracy that ensures the reliability of the cartographic representation of elevation data. This study shows an implementation of vertical accuracy methods, such as National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA) and Brazilian Map Accuracy Standards (BMAS) into a GISbased procedure for automatically calculating soil loss from the Universal Soil Loss Equation (GISus-M). The other factors necessary to use the USLE, including soil erodibility, rainfall erosivity, and conservation practices, are also integrated in this tool. We describe in detail the GISus-M system and show its application in the Ribeirão do Salto sub-basin. From our proposed system it is possible to work with different types of databases, making the GIS-procedure proposed a useful tool to researchers and decision makers to use spatial data and different methods to create future scenarios of soil erosion risk. To assess the vertical accuracy methods implemented into GISus-M we used elevation data of the SRTM X-band (30m), C-band (90m) and NED USGS (10m). The vertical accuracy of three DEMs was assessed using LiDAR points as reference data throughout the study area. The methods presented were applied in Walnut Gulch Experimental Watershed (WGEW), Arizona. The result of a test of the accuracy of 40 checkpoints (z-values) for each land cover in terms of the National Standard for Spatial Data showed that the maximum vertical accuracy of 14.72m and 4.42m for SRTM of 90m and 30m, respectively, is better than the 16 meters given in the SRTM specifications. According to Brazilian Map Accuracy Standards for the scale of 1:25,000, the SRTM (90m) was not classified. However, the SRTM (30m) e NED USGS (10m) were classified to the class A and B, respectively, for the same scale. Our results showed the importance of the application of vertical accuracy methods to identify systematic errors and define the larger scale of mapping for a given DEM.

Among the natural resources that man needs to survive, the soil is included in the list of the most important, since without it the agricultural production, in order to supply the populations, becomes unfeasible. However, researchers around the world have warned that due to improper exploitation, the world's soils tend to change by force of water and wind, which will lead to the formation of uninhabitable deserts. Thus, in order to contribute to studies that seek the preservation and conservation of soils for agricultural purposes, this research aims to collaborate with the improvement of the predictive model of erosion (EUPS), aiming at a better approximation between the data of estimation of soil losses obtained with the model and the data registered in the field. In order to reach the proposed objectives and to evaluate the hypotheses formulated, the Universal Soil Loss Equation (EUPS) was applied in the Alam Grei river basin, in the scale of 1: 10,000, using three different techniques to obtain the values referring to the topographic factor of the EUPS. These results were compared with the data obtained in two selected slopes of this basin in the detail scale of 1: 1,000, in order to verify how the scale interferes in the results obtained with said model. The results showed that the scale of detail favors the obtaining of data of better quality, in order to present final values of more real EPS, since it allows obtaining data less generalized. In addition, the soil loss estimation values acquired with the EUPS model were compared with two experimental plots, erosion pins and Gerlach gutters, indicating very discrepant values of the actual soil loss data. In this way, it is understood that the variety of data found in the present study demonstrates the need to concentrate efforts in the search for obtaining more satisfactory values of the parameters that make up the EUPS, so that the model mentioned, widely used worldwide, can be an instrument that provides subsidies in order to plan and make feasible land use and occupation actions and conservation practices aimed at mitigating the triggering of erosion processes in agricultural areas.

The results showed that the scale of detail favors the obtaining of data of better quality, in order to present final values of more real EPS, since it allows obtaining data less generalized. In addition, the soil loss e... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) has been used within geographical information systems targeting the development of means of producing basic planning information. Remote sensing data have been used to map the most dynamic side of erosion: land use and management. Overestimations of erosion and Natural Erosion Potential have been regularly obtained, though, in bidimensional models. Due to the newness of these studies there is not enough data trying to explain why these overestimations occur. This present work developed two hypotheses: first, that the derivation of the land use factor (factor C)based either on aerophotography or orbital imagery takes to similar final results, in terms of soil loss prediction, and that the topographic factor is the main cause of out-of-scope values when using USLE for slopes longer than 300m. TM-Landsat imagery and erial photography produced different results in terms of punctual erosion, but much coherent in a synoptic view of the geographical distribution of erosion on the catchment. Higher values concentrated, for both products, around natural drainage, which reflects the strong influence of the topographic factor, mainly the slope-length fraction. The results show the necessity of a more accurate regression equation for slope length if USLE is to be used to predict erosion in small catchments. This model shall support the presence of values as high as those found in nature. A bidimensional model for slope length must also consider the presence of roads and terracing, as well as other structures that might alter run-off direction. Finally, it was demonstrated that it is possible to conduct all the modeling steps, including out-put, within one geographic information system alone, avoiding time consumption through software migration, the only limitation being the correct choice of the system to be used.

Erosion is a natural phenomenon in the modeled the surface removal process and sediment deposition, but human activities, such as deforestation, exceed natural levels of soil loss. To estimate the annual soil loss in arable land, there are models of prediction, which relate to physical elements of the landscape with anthropogenic activities. On this subject, the aim of this study is to evaluate the loss of soils in the watershed of Córrego Baguaçu, located in the west of the State of São Paulo, considered a region of intense accelerated erosion, result of soils from sandy and sandy-clay materials of easy erosion, that ally to the pressures of agricultural use. The USLE (Universal Soil loss Equation) was the prediction model used to estimate the loss of surface soils in this basin. The USLE allows you to evaluate the outcome of rainfall erosion index, soil erodibility, topographic factor, coverage of land use, management and conservation practices. Using the Geographical Information System (GIS), it was possible to estimate spatially the areas of greatest vulnerability to erosion, as well as linear features map changes and point out what is most responsible for heavy losses from soils. The results showed that much of the soil loss in the concentrates on lower classes (0 to 3 t/ha/yr), with predominance of the occupied areas with pasture and sugar cane.

The erosive process ocurrs naturally, however it is being accelerated by anthropic action causing changes in the natural characteristics of soil, reduction of crop productivity, rivers silting and several environmental problems. The implementation of sustainable studies models in watershed, aims preservation, utilization and dinamic of the environment, having an important role as environmental resources management tool. This study aims to establish estimation of soil loss to upper course of Chopim River watershed through aplication of Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE), applying Qgis 3.0 software. The study area is located in the south of Paraná State. Were considered pluviosity rainfall data from 1985 to 2015 to calculate annual average erosivity and was obtained a variation from 9752 Mj/ha.mm/year to 8180Mj/ha.mm/year, constituting an moderate to strong erosivity. The present soils in the study area have an average erosivity of 0,02030, 0,02092, 0,02410 and 0,02681 Mg.ha.h.ha-1.MJ-1.mm-1 for Nitosol, Latosol, Cambisol, Neosol, respectively. The declivity degree associated with ramp length results in topographic factor, which indicated the study area with flat and smooth wavy relief. The factors of use, management and conservation practices of soil, were estimated according to soil use classification and literature review, alternating from 0 to 0,143. The types of use soil classes were differentiated by Pine, Forest, Open Fields, Conventional Cultivation and Exposed Soil, Urban Area. The annual average soil loss was estimated in 39,36 ton/ha.year what can be considered as moderated soil loss. In the maps analysis were not possible to identificate only one factor that individualizes as soil losses. However, was observed that the association of the erosivity factor and the topographic factor, indicates the high values of soil loss. Nevertheless, the soil loss estimation map in the upper course of the watershed of Chopim River provides enough data to the analysis and environmental planning of study area.
