The main objective of this research was to determine the frequency of the occurrence of moral dissonance in the workplace, and its possible consequences for employees’ psycho-physical health. External ethical dissonance at work is defined as a condition stemming from a discrepancy between the employee action and ethical standards in place in the organization, and is primarily caused by the unethical pressure of the management. A sample of 311 employees of both genders, employed both in the private and public sector, with different educational levels and of different ages and seniority, have applied measures of psycho-physical health, measures of frequency of ethical dissonance at work, and the Demographic Characteristics Questionnaire. Results show that out of 311 respondents, 72% of them report that they have been in a state of external ethical dissonance at least once in the past year, so we conducted further analyses on data gathered from these 224 employees. Factor analysis of the SUED2R questionnaire has revealed that measures of external ethical dissonance are classified into three indicators, according to the type of unethical pressure: lying for the benefit of the organization, harassing others, and supporting wrong people in the organization. We have found that the incidence of such ethical dissonance is significantly higher in the private than in the public sector, that the increased incidence of all three forms of work dissonance is associated with an increased incidence of symptoms of health disorders. It is concluded that the pressure to act unethically (corrupt behavior) probably contributes to the deterioration of employees’ health. The significance of these findings is that, for the first time, they clearly demonstrate a systematic link between pressuring employees into corrupt behavior, and their psycho-physical health.

Qualitative researchers often face unpredictable ethical issues during fieldwork. These may be regarded as ethical dilemmas that need to be ‘solved’, but Guillemin and Gillam’s concept of ‘ethically important moments’ provides an alternative framing. Using examples, their concept is developed to suggest that ethical issues in the conduct of research can illuminate and supplement other fieldwork data. Far from being problematic, the dissonance between the procedural ethics of research ethics committees and real-world research can provide opportunities for a more subtle and nuanced understanding of the field.

This paper explores the quality and usefulness of ethical guidance for humanitarian aid workers and their agencies. We focus specifically on public health emergencies, such as COVID-19. The authors undertook a literature review and gathered empirical data through semi-structured focus group discussions amongst front-line workers from health clinics in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh and in the Abyei Special Administrative Area, South Sudan. The purpose of the project was to identify how front-line workers respond to ethical challenges, including any informal or local decision-making processes, support networks, or habits of response. The research findings highlighted a dissonance between ethical guidance and the experiences of front-line humanitarian health workers. They suggest the possibility: (1) that few problems confronting front-line workers are conceived, described, or resolved as ethical problems; and (2) of significant dissonance between available, allegedly practically oriented guidance (often produced by academics in North America and Europe), and the immediate issues confronting front-line workers. The literature review and focus group data suggest a real possibility that there is, at best, a significant epistemic gulf between those who produce ethical guidelines and those engaged in real-time problem solving at the point of contact with people. At worst they suggest a form of epistemic control—an imposition of cognitive shapes that shoehorn the round peg of theoretical preoccupations and the disciplinary boundaries of western academies into the square hole of front-line humanitarian practice.

The initial finding of the study, which served as the basis for the exploration of cognitive dissonance between religious and secular behavioral norms, was revealed in a tendency of the majority of religious students to accept behavioral norms, attitudes and believes (concerning interpersonal relationships and reproduction-related ethical issues) which are not supported by Orthodox Christian Church viewpoint and teachings. However, certain cognitive and value system consistency appeared to exist: the intensity of religiousness was related to lower degrees of secular norms approval. It has been found that religious and nonreligious subjects differ significantly in their preference of the strategy used to maintain balance between dissonant religious and secular attitudes- in 3 out of 4 issues considered in the study. Religious subjects most frequently chose relativism strategy, claiming that some specific exceptions from a general rule or standpoint do not necessarily depreciate it, while nonreligious subjects most frequently chose dualistic viewpoint that principally separated and restricted domains of reasoning on spiritual and worldly issues, making them psychologically irrelevant to one another.

This paper joins a discussion about the representational dissonance and commemorative ethics of two self-referential works that engage with Susan Sontag’s 2004 death from Myelodysplastic Syndrome: Annie Leibovitz’s A Photographer’s Life1990–2005 (2006) and David Rieff’s Swimming in a Sea of Death: A Son’s Memoir (2008). Instead of approaching these two texts as testimonial accounts measured by standards of reliability and grace, this paper considers how the temporal dissonance produced by an incurable cancer diagnosis thwarts questions of personhood and ethical intention in Leibovitz’s photography and Rieff ’s prose. By contextualizing these works as the caregivers’ experience of Sontag’s illness, this paper reads them as attempts at gauging two distinct temporal perspectives that confound identification—those of living through and of remembering terminal time.

The article embarks on an investigative journey into the complex legal and ethical landscape shaped by the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The research problem centres on the urgent need to understand and address the gap between evolving AI technologies and the existing legal and ethical frameworks. This gap poses significant challenges to societal norms, legal systems, and ethical principles, warranting a comprehensive multidisciplinary analysis. The research objectives are twofold: firstly, to dissect the legal implications AI poses to existing regulatory structures, and secondly, to explore the ethical dilemmas emanating from AI's pervasive influence across various societal sectors. The study employs an eclectic research method, integrating doctrinal analysis with a qualitative examination of case studies and existing literature across disciplines like law, ethics, technology, and sociology. This approach facilitates a holistic understanding of the AI era's legal and ethical intricacies. The key findings of this research underscore a dissonance between rapid technological advancements in AI and the slower evolution of legal and ethical norms. This disjunction leads to legal loopholes and ethical ambiguities in AI governance, privacy, accountability, and human rights. Furthermore, the study identifies a pressing need for adaptive legal frameworks and ethical guidelines that can keep pace with AI's transformative impact. Implications of these findings are profound for both theory and practice. Theoretically, the article contributes to an enriched understanding of the intersection between law, ethics, and technology. Practically, it offers actionable insights for policymakers, technologists, and ethicists to collaboratively formulate responsive legal and ethical strategies. These strategies are essential for safeguarding societal values while embracing technological progress, ensuring AI's development is both legally sound and ethically responsible.

Knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) on healthcare professional's (HCP) ethical practice have been studied extensively in countries with developed economies. On the other hand studies in lower and middle-income countries (LMIC), especially in Sub-Saharan (SSA) countries are relatively sparse. The survey outlined in this article which was conducted in an SSA country tertiary care health facility in Ghana, was undertaken to explore the primary ethical knowledge and intuition, in a cohort of SSA HCP. The aim was to determine their baseline ethical knowledge and sensitivity, deficits if any, in basic ethical concepts, and determine gaps in ethical knowledge. The information obtained from the study was to inform the possible future direction of ethics education, which currently has a relatively low uptake in SSA settings. The results indicated the respondents thought of ethical issues in the course of their work. However, if one is to go by reports of unethical behaviour among some HCP available in the public domain in Ghana, then there appears to be an issue of cognitive dissonance between HCP knowledge of ethics, and their actual everyday practice as HCP.

This study applies a qualitative approach to examine the moderating effects of national culture on budgeting processes and practices among Ghanaian Multinational Companies. Interview responses from twenty Ghanaian respondents from ten companies were analyzed. Applying logical inferences, the evidence suggests that budgeting processes and practices are affected by the concept of ‘self’, the acceptance of logical contradictions, abstractness in language, high priority for non-verbal communication, the cultural need for receivers of information to be good perspective takers, polychromic, and the prioritization of in-groups among others. This study also describes how Ghanaian respondents weave through ethical dilemmas and form an ethical perspective especially when there are conflicts within and between cultural values and beliefs by prioritizing certain cultural values over others, espousing dissonance and rationalization.

In the context of health care system complexity, nurses need responsive leadership and organizational support to maintain intrinsic motivation, moral sensitivity and a caring stance in the delivery of patient care. The current complexity of nurses’ work environment promotes decreases in work motivation and moral satisfaction, thus creating motivational and ethical dissonance in practice. These and other work-related factors increase emotional stress and burnout for nurses, prompting both new and seasoned nurse professionals to leave their current position, or even the profession. This article presents a theoretical conceptual model for professional nurses to review and make sense of the ethical reasoning skills needed to maintain a caring stance in relation to the competing values that must coexist among nurses, health care administrators, patients and families in the context of the complex health care work environments in which nurses are expected to practice. A model, Nurses’ Ethical Reasoning Skills, is presented as a framework for nurses’ thinking through and problem solving ethical issues in clinical practice in the context of complexity in health care.

This study asks whether translation might be a valid mode of (literary) criticism. It approaches a hortatory biblical text (1 Timothy 2.8-14 [3.1a]), somewhat notoriously and rigidly applied in some quarters of the church as containing timeless ethical instruction concerning women in the church, from the standpoint of its intertextual network, listening for resonance and dissonance as the relevant intertexts and precursor texts are explored. It is ultimately diagnosed as a text that is eschatologically obsolescent, and translated/rewritten, on the basis of its intertextual composition, to reflect the openness inscribed by the authorial Other.

Given global proliferation of healthcare robots in hospital and home settings, guidance for shared nurse–robot practice is essential if nurses are to be influential participants in the design, implementation, and evaluation of this new practice partnership. Van Wyneberghe's Care-Centered, Value-Sensitive Design-approach, grounded in ethical theory and healthcare robotics, was identified as a likely fit with the grand nursing theory of Nursing as Caring. Following analysis of congruence and dissonance, a model for a new middle range theory was developed. The Dance of Living Caring has the potential to maintain caring as nursing's central value as robotic technology advances.

For the Life of the World represents a landmark discussion of social ethics within the Orthodox academy in the West. This article begins by looking at the document's self-understanding as an exploratory rather than a definitive text that seeks to provoke rather than curtail discussion. The overarching matter of how even the possibility of a viable social ethos is debated in modern Orthodoxy is briefly dealt with through the lens of ethical apophaticism and cataphaticism. The document itself, a cataphatic contribution in this regard, is then examined in terms of its ethical priorities, its tone in addressing these priorities, as well as its overall theological coherence. Potential ambiguities and dissonance in the document are highlighted. A concluding appeal is made for more work on clarifying the Orthodox theological presuppositions that go into crafting Orthodox social ethics, and a positive proposal is offered, centred on an Orthodox ethos of repentance.

PurposeThis study aims to explore the motivation as well as barriers for ethical food consumption behaviour by focussing on the food consumption pattern of young adults in the North East of Scotland. Considering the recent involvement of young adults in environmental activism, consumption behaviour of young adults in the North East of Scotland, an oil-based community, presents essential research interest to understand whether young adults often contemplate the consequences of their lifestyle.Design/methodology/approachThe authors explored the perceptions of ten purposive recruited young adults using semi-structured interviews to understand factors underpinning consumer's decision-making towards ethical food products.FindingsThe study reveals three key factors influencing ethical food consumption behaviour among young adults. The findings show that personal health and well-being are the main reasons why consumers engage in ethical food consumption. Also, it is observed that information facilitates decision-making by raising awareness regarding the social, environmental and health consequences of food production and consumption. Further, the findings show that situational attributes, such as product price and product availability, are creating dissonance when engaging in ethical food consumption.Originality/valueThis study contributes to sustainability research and the ongoing debate on consumerism by exploring ethical food consumption behaviour and highlights the need to address situational challenges, such as product price and availability. The study suggests that interventions to address current consumption patterns should also emphasise the social and personal benefits of food consumption rather than the environmental benefits that have been the focus of prior research.

In the field of ethical consumption, research in recent years has attempted to explain the gap between principles and actual behaviour. Three experimental studies show that when the contradiction between what individuals say and what they do is made salient in the field of environmental protection, that is to say in a situation of induced hypocrisy, they indirectly reduce the resulting cognitive dissonance by being more altruistic towards associations that act for the environment but not towards humanitarian associations. This effect of induced hypocrisy fades as individuals become less vulnerable to the threat to the self by affirming values that are important to them.

Background: Complex and expensive treatment options have increased the frequency and emphasis of ethical decision-making in healthcare. In order to meet these challenges effectively, we need to identify how nurses contribute the resolution of these dilemmas. Aims: To identify the values, beliefs and contextual influences that inform decision-making. To identify the contribution made by nurses in achieving the resolution of ethical dilemmas in practice. Design: An interpretive exploratory study was undertaken, 11 registered acute care nurses working in a district general hospital in England were interviewed, using semi-structured interviews. In-depth content analysis of the data was undertaken via NVivo coding and thematic identification. Participants and context: Participants were interviewed about their contribution to the resolution of ethical dilemmas within the context of working in an acute hospital ward. Participants were recruited from all settings working with patients of any age and any diagnosis. Ethical considerations: Ethical approval was obtained from the local National Research Ethics Committee. Findings: Four major themes emerged: ‘best for the patient’, ‘accountability’, ‘collaboration and conflict’ and ‘concern for others’. Moral distress was also evident in the literature and findings, with moral dissonance recognised and articulated by more experienced nurses. The relatively small, single-site sample may not account for the effects of organisational culture on the results; the findings suggested that professional relationships were key to resolving ethical dilemmas. Discussion: Nurses use their moral reasoning based on their beliefs and values when faced with ethical dilemmas. Subsequent actions are mediated though ethical decision-making frames of reference including deontology, consequentialism, the ethics of care and virtue ethics. Nurses use these in contributing to the resolution of these dilemmas. Nurses require the skills to develop and maintain professional relationships for addressing ethical dilemmas and to engage with political and organisational macro- and micro-decision-making. Conclusion: Nurses’ professional relationships are central to nurses’ contributions to the resolution of ethical dilemmas.

The research of 800 scientific articles and 1045 popular media evidenced dissonance between the scientific community’s approach to self-care, which has a relatively more clinical focus and an individual and physical nature, and the popular notions of physical and mental self-care that focus on self-awareness and well-being. The pandemic has influenced the application of self-care with the intensification of clinical analyses and reports and containment measures in international studies. The dialogical, deliberative, and regulatory nature of bioethics underlies the importance of the educational process in shaping citizens who understand self-care as a biological and ethical principle. We conclude that the pandemic opens a new chapter in the history as it impels individuals to look at themselves and others mutually, thus revealing self-care as an ethical principle, which demands a decision-making from a critical, autonomous, and proactive awareness that aims to promote global health.

INTRODUCTION: Medical students often encounter ethical dilemmas in obstetrics and gynecology clinical training, yet receive limited directed education to help them interpret and process these situations. We sought to explore students’ described experience with clinical ethical complexities to identify sources of conflict and inform training improvements. METHODS: From 2019 to 2022, medical students who submitted an essay assignment to describe an ethical dilemma encountered during their obstetrics and gynecology clerkship were invited to share their work with the study team. We performed thematic analysis of these essays. RESULTS: Thirty-nine essays were available for analysis. Prominent themes included patient autonomy, informed consent, approaches to counseling, power differentials, professionalism, and the learning environment and its effect on patient care. The following are sample quotes: “Each time a patient requested that a medical student not be involved in their care they often occupied positions of privilege by title, socioeconomic status, or race.”; “This was a difficult, uncomfortable experience. It is challenging to knowingly cause discomfort.”; “I wondered, and still wonder—should I have intervened? [...] I did not have the courage to speak up, but I wish I did.” CONCLUSION: Students bear witness to and learn from ethical conflicts during obstetrics and gynecology training, which can prompt both self-reflection and cognitive dissonance. Topics such as informed consent and patient autonomy are commonly taught in medical schools; in practice, students also identified dilemmas related to their roles as learners navigating team-based health care. Medical students may need additional ethical training or support in processing the hierarchies of academic medicine.

This study investigated the drivers of domestic violence against men in Kirinyaga County, Kenya. It utilised a qualitative research design, and 30 victimised men were interviewed between March and May 2018. Supplementary data were gathered from key informants and secondary sources. The study was guided by the social learning theory and field data were subjected to thematic and content analysis. Ethical considerations were adhered to throughout the study. Findings revealed that perpetrator-related and victim-related characteristics were the main triggers of domestic violence against men. These included the desire of women to dominate; emotional dissonance; peer influence; men’s infidelity, drunkenness, and failure to shoulder family responsibilities. The study suggests an urgent need to increase awareness and develop innovative strategies to prevent and respond to domestic violence.

The article’s analysis focuses on the ontological aspects of social existence harmonious. Ethical principles of good are the main de-confliction mechanisms, factors that are reproduced and responsible for solving the problem of social and individual order. Universal ethical values - freedom, love, responsibility, creativity is a preexisting knowledge that produces, translates and reproduces the coherence practices of co-existence at both individual and social levels. It is revealed that the functionality of the latter is reproduced in the space of productive communication experience, which acquires personality in the social interaction context. The "threat" to ethical knowledge, which is the ontological basis of the social being organization, is the problem of ethics relativity. This problem arises and spreads as a result of the ethical knowledge objectification, its transformation into a thing. In other words, it is the transformation of universal values, the goals of ethics as spiritual phenomena, into the means of achieving individual desire, personal well-being, the tools of satisfying my selfish desires, that transforms a person into a conformal consumer. From ancient hedonism to modern versions of transhumanism, ethical relativism theories continue to actively raise questions about the relevance of the ethical absolutism principles. It is noted that the dissonance that arises in connection with the actualization of the ethics relativism question indicates an aggravation of the formalization problem of spiritual knowledge. Consequently, ethical conformity is required to conform to the ontology of social being. This correspondence is based on the absoluteness of ethics as a condition for the functioning of harmonious social relations - on the one hand, and human development - on the other. Thus, the analysis of the consolidation mechanisms of human being, its integrity, harmony, should focus on the actualization of the ethical absolutism issue, which is particularly acute in today's conflict world. It is this perspective that explores the problems of integrating social and individual order and provides tools and solutions.

AimsWithin psychiatry, relationships between doctors and patients with psychosis are significant determinants of attitudes, adherence, and therapeutic outcomes. Current research focuses on communication within psychiatrist-patient interactions with limited evaluation of the patient's perspective. Understanding the components underpinning the patient's relationship with their doctor could help improve outcomes for individuals with psychosis.MethodsEight participants, recruited through advocacy programmes, were interviewed. All had a diagnosis of psychosis or its subtypes. Interviews lasted between forty and eighty minutes. Thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews allowed exploration of important themes within doctor-patient relationships. Ethical procedures were implemented in accordance with British Psychological Society guidelines.ResultsParticipants’ narratives identified three salient themes perceived to influence doctor-patient relationships. Participants explored ‘Interactions with Medical Professionals’, focusing on communication and discussion styles. Doctors were not perceived as empathic, open listeners, reducing trust and limiting conversation during interactions. Participants described reduced engagement due to perceived misunderstanding and highlighted the impact of time constraints, guidelines, and limited medical training on relationships.Secondly, participants discussed the ‘Diagnostic Process’, suggesting it had a negative influence on the relationship due to delivery methods. Finally, participants explored ‘Treatment’, highlighting an overwhelming reliance on medication, lack of explanations, and lack of psychological therapies, which contradicted with patients’ preferences.ConclusionThe narratives describe a relationship in which patients feel misunderstood, furthering patient disengagement and resulting in a vicious cycle of dissonance that limits health outcomes. Findings suggest a need to incorporate psychological therapies into doctor-patient interactions to allow increased communication and understanding.

This essay is a critical perspective of the applicability of behavioral ethics in business and policy interventions. I summarize a series of proposed interventions to increase people’s honesty, inspired by ethical dissonance theory, such as increasing salience of moral norms, visibility, and self-engagement. Although I agree that behavioral ethics could offer simple, low-cost interventions with the potential of reducing unethical behavior (not only) in organizations, there are several risks and methodological limitations not sufficiently discussed. The interventions thus could eventually lead to weaker positive impacts or even long-term negative consequences. I suggest several alternative approaches to decrease dishonesty such as making the moral choice easier, implementing salient accountability, and removing dishonesty temptations and dishonest employees. The article concludes with a warning that unrealistic expectations may damage the credibility of behavioral ethics.

This research paper presents an attempt to explore the phenomenon of a consistent disconnection between the online and offline personality traits of Internet users. The research delves deeper into this notion, explores the possible drivers and stimulants, and then puts special emphasis on its implications and repercussions on various business aspects, such as online advertising and e-marketing techniques. The research uses a variety of instruments and tools, including structured observations, face-to-face interviews, online surveys, and mock computer User Interfaces designed specifically for the purpose of the experiments conducted as part of the primary data collection for the research. The paper then proceeds to analyze the primary data and presents an attempt to understand the phenomenon and its underlying stimulants. Finally, the paper presents a set of conclusions, again with more focus on marketing and business-related issues. The research, through its primary data analysis and rationalization, concludes that there is strong evidence that most internet users exhibit different facets of behavioral dissonance between their online and offline traits. The research also concludes that such dissonance may be induced by the social internet ecosystem and dynamics, rather than intrinsic tendencies in the users’ actual characters. The research also relates these findings with common business practices of successful online businesses and sheds the light on potential ethical dilemmas pertaining to internet businesses exploiting these phenomena (albeit sometimes unknowingly) to lure their users into buying products or to generate more traffic.

Loyalty has long been associated with being moral and upstanding, but recent research has begun documenting how loyalty can lead people to do unethical things. Here we offer an integrative perspective on loyalty and its outcomes. We suggest that a variety of bottom-up and top-down psychological processes lead individuals to be loyal to people and organizations they have obligations to, and that these processes operate in ways that reduce the cognitive dissonance experienced when loyalties conflict with each other or with other moral principles. In this article, we articulate what loyalty is, describe the typical objects of loyalty, explain the mental processes involved in navigating loyalty dilemmas, and end by offering an integrative perspective that illuminates why loyalty leads to both ethical and unethical outcomes and when each type of outcome is likely to occur.

AbstractThis paper examines Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma (2006) and Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (2007), and argues that pastoral and narrative elements of these texts obscure an uncomfortable dissonance between their locavore claims to environmental sustainability and “sustainable meat” production. Much recent literature from within the frameworks of ecocriticism and ethics has been critical of the ethical/ sustainable meat movement for using simplistic and inaccurate models of sustainability, and for failing to reposition nonhuman animals outside the framework of capitalist commodification. Inadequately considered by these self-fulfilling stories are empirical data that indicate a global lack of resources to deploy “sustainable meat” production, as well as the implications of continuing the ideology of dominion over nonhumans. This paper calls for a new sustainable food story that encourages radical ways of thinking about farming and nonhumans, and that incorporates a landscape both urban and rural.

Researchers in the area of health and social care (both in Australia and internationally) are encouraged to involve consumers throughout the research process, often on ethical, political and methodological grounds, or simply as ‘good practice’. This article presents findings from a qualitative study in the UK of researchers’ experiences and views of consumer involvement in health research. Two main themes are presented. First, we explore the ‘know—do gap’ which relates to the tensions between researchers’ perceptions of the potential benefits of, and their actual practices in relation to, consumer involvement. Second, we focus on one of the reasons for this ‘know—do gap’, namely epistemological dissonance. Findings are linked to issues around consumerism in research, lay/professional knowledges, the (re)production of professional and consumer identities and the maintenance of boundaries between consumers and researchers.

Since the beginning of the millennium, there has been a remarkable change in how people access and share information. Much of this information is user-generated content found on social media sites. As digital technologies and social media continue to expand, health care providers must adapt their professional communication to meet the expectations and needs of consumers. This adaptation may include communication on social media sites. However, many health care providers express concerns that professional social media use, particularly interactions with patients, is ethically problematic. Social media engagement does not create ethical dissonance if best practices are observed and online communication adheres to terms of service, professional standards, and organizational policy. A well-executed social media presence provides health care providers, including physical therapists, the opportunity—and perhaps a professional obligation—to use social media sites to share or create credible health care information, filling a consumer void for high-quality online information on fitness, wellness, and rehabilitation. This perspective article provides a broad review of the emergence of social media in society and health care, explores policy implications of organizational adoption of health care social media, and proposes individual opportunities and guidelines for social media use by the physical therapy professional.

The curiosity of how the built environment, implicitly and explicitly, affects how citizens and users make choices in their everyday life related to climate change is on the rise. If there is a nicely designed bike lane, the choice to bike to work is much more easily taken than if the only option is a densely trafficked road. But which responsibility does the built environment have for citizens to be as climate neutral as possible and, in extension, who should it burden? Is it the individual user, the designer, the planner, the policymaker or global politics? Media is playing an important and complicated role here; it works both as a source of information and as a trigger, instigating both feelings of guilt, fear, and shame in order to set change in motion. In this article, I will discuss everyday climate-related decision-making fuelled by shame and guilt, drawing on Judith Butler’s writings on ethical obligations and narrating it with findings from a mapping study of daily transportation routes that I conducted in a middle-class suburb outside of Lund, in Sweden. There appears to be a dissonance between the relatively high knowledge about one’s responsibility concerning climate change and the limited space to manoeuvre in everyday life. Even though shame and guilt may be driving forces to make decisions, the possibility to imagine and to change needs to be expanded.

The article describes massive changes in the brain function of mass-media recipients. It is written within the relevant neuro social state of the Ukrainian mass media society in the conditions of undeclared military censorship and counter-propaganda. The material for analysis was two groups of data: content analysis of news media and a sociological survey of citizens for the presence of cognitive dissonance and lies that can violate neuroethics, namely, forming a distorted picture of the world, creating long-term deprivation and inadequate neural connections. The purpose of such research was to find out the regular influence of affective and defamatory infospace on the brains of people whose countries are at war. We clarified the nature of the newest manipulations in the media and around ethical issues, the state of research on the neuroethics of manipulations, comparing the nature of war journalistic manipulations in Russian and Ukrainian media and the objectification and explanation of neuroethical violations in Ukrainian media through the techniques of lying, silencing, avoidance, analysis, self-counting, etc. The authors used methods of theoretical, statistical, comparative and systemic analysis, content analysis, sociological methods of collecting background data and neuro interpretive methods for the received input data. The result of the article was a systematization of the manipulation of the brain in a state of permanent tension; in particular, we identified ways of institutional avoidance or deception and diagnosis of specific neuroethical threats and consequences among the population (emotional dependency, deprivation, emotional-cognitive dissonance, lack of entitlement to accurate truth, the difference between the content of the national and local media, etc.)

Artificial intelligence (AI) and embodied intelligence are combined in cognitive robotics, which marks a paradigm change in highly developed problem-solving skills. This study offers a comprehensive review of the theoretical underpinnings, practical difficulties, practical applications, and moral implications of cognitive robots. The study explores machine learning methods, natural language processing tools, and computer vision technologies after introducing the fundamental concepts. It clarifies embodied intelligence further by emphasizing the important roles that sensory data fusion, robotic actuation, and adaptive behaviours play in the cognitive capabilities of robots. The study then moves on to discuss cognitive robotics' integration difficulties, including issues in sensory data fusion, cognitive dissonance in AI-driven robotics, and human-robot interaction. Applications in autonomous cars, healthcare, manufacturing, and assistive technologies demonstrate how cognitive robotics is transforming many different industries. The ethical obligations involved in the creation and use of cognitive robotic systems are highlighted, along with ethical issues relating to employment, privacy, and ethical AI practises. In-depth analysis is done of the present and foreseeable difficulties in cognitive robotics. Along with cognitive difficulties like contextual comprehension and moral conundrums, technical obstacles linked to sensor limits and processing restrictions are also studied. The study highlights cutting-edge research projects and multidisciplinary partnerships that provide answers to these problems, paving the path for the development of cognitive robots in the future. The article envisions a future where cognitive robots would play a part in space exploration, disaster response, and personalised robotics. It also surveys integration possibilities with cutting-edge technologies like augmented reality and the Internet of Things. The study summarises the key findings and presents the implications for future research, and emphasises the important part cognitive robotics plays in resolving difficult issues. To ensure that cognitive robots continue to have an impact on a future that is smarter, more connected, and understanding, ethical issues, multidisciplinary collaboration, and responsible development practises are necessary.

Similar to many other countries, Lesotho has experienced growing concerns regarding moral decay among youth in recent years. This concern could be attributed to various factors, such as rapid socio-economic changes, advancements in technology, and shifting societal norms. Consequently, negative consequences have arisen, including drug abuse, disrespect for constituted authority, and disengagement from academics among learners. The study therefore intents to explore the efficacy of religious studies in addressing moral erosion and developing ethical behaviour to ensure its effective implementation and impact. This study adopts the Cognitive Dissonance Theory as a framework to investigate the potential of religious studies in secondary schools as a means to develop ethical behaviour and address the increase in moral decay among learners. Through purposive sampling, six teachers from six member schools of the religious studies association in the northern region of Lesotho were selected to participate in semi-structured interviews. The findings of the study indicate that moral decay among learners is primarily influenced by factors such as poverty, lack of parental guidance, limited access to education, and dysfunctional family structures. Furthermore, the study reveals that religious studies content and various teaching approaches have the potential to cultivate moral values and counteract moral decadence among learners. The study recommends that teachers receive continuous professional development and support to enhance their pedagogical skills in effectively delivering moral education through religious studies. Moral instruction curriculum rather than religious studies curriculum should be introduced. The curriculum should accommodate all religions’ moral precepts.

This paper looks at the development of a teaching module intended to enhance students’ understanding of ethics in a community service-learning (CSL) class. This module, created to meet academic (western) learning outcomes for CSL, is based upon Indigenous pedagogy and methods, and offers a non-western framing of specific community service goals, particularly reciprocity and transformative dissonance. The paper proposes that moving toward Indigenous or other ways of knowing offers students and instructors an entry point into decolonizing practices and into alternate ways of experiencing service, transformative learning, and power dynamics. The paper also includes a discussion of the theory behind the teaching module and focuses on the intertwining of ethical research protocols (from Tri-Council policy, OCAP® principles, and elsewhere), service-learning goals, and Indigenous methods within the context of settler colonial practices and policies. Alongside other traditional service-learning outcomes, the primary goal of the module is to encourage students to become critical thinkers reflecting on the mechanics of power and social inequity as they experience social justice founded upon the ideals of relationship building.
