From Hainan Province, southern China, a new genus of Carventinae: Caiaptera n. gen with the species C. picea n. sp. and a new genus of Mezirinae: Hainanmezira n. gen with the species H. latiscutellata n. sp. as well as Notoplocaptera hainanensis n. sp., are described and illustrated. Additional records are given, and a list of species recorded to date from this province is presented.

Abstract On September 12, 1949, the liberal politician Theodor Heuss, party leader of the „Freie Demokratische Partei“ (FDP), was elected by the Bundesversammlung (Federal Convention) as the first Bundespräsident, i. e. head of state, of the newly founded Bundesrepublik Deutschland. As a young man Heuss had been a close friend and political ally of Friedrich Naumann, the protestant pastor and left wing liberal politician, supported by Ernst Troeltsch. Heuss then working as a political journalist for liberal newspapers and Naumann’s weekly journal Die Hilfe, was an admirer of Troeltsch, and since 1910 they often met in Heidelberg, at Villa Fallenstein, Ziegelhäuser Landstraße 17, where Max and Marianne Weber as well als the Troeltschs lived; Heuss frequently visited Max Weber’s Sunday jour fixe. When in 1915 Troeltsch became a professor at the Philosophical Faculty of Berlin University Heuss regularly kept in contact with him especially through Hans Delbrück’s „Mittwochabend“, a weekly gathering of liberal intellectuals, professors, politicians and journalists discussing political reforms and the ongoing war. Both Troeltsch and Heuss, 19 years younger, demanded the democratization of the Deutsches Reich, and after the end of the war and the revolution of 1918/19 they became members of the newly founded left wing liberal party „Deutsche Demokratische Partei“ (DDP). After Troeltsch’s sudden death on February 1st, 1923, Heuss wrote an obituary, and, together with his wife Elly Heuss-Knapp, attended the funeral service conducted by Adolf von Harnack. Heuss was a member of the „Demokratischer Klub Berlin“, founded in 1919 by liberal politicians, bankers and academics to regularly discuss the political situation of the new democratic state, the Weimar Republic. Unknown until now, seven weeks after Troeltsch’s death the „Demokratische Klub“ invited its members (the club only had male mebers!) to a memorial act for Troeltsch. On this occasion Heuss delivered a speech „Zu Ernst Troeltschs Gedächtnis“ („To the Memory of Ernst Troeltsch“) which is published here for the first time.

The news that Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's painting “Berliner Strassenszene“ (Berlin Street Scene) will be up for sale in New York on November 8, 2006 has stirred up the international art scene for the past two months. The sale was announced shortly after the Berlin state senate had returned the painting to the heirs of its original owners, Jewish art collectors Alfred and Tekla Hess. For the past 26 years the piece had been hanging in the Brücke Museum in Berlin and formed a cornerstone of the museum's expressionist collection. Bought, from public funds, in 1980, for a little over $ 1 Million US, the painting is expected to sell this fall for $ 18 Million to $ 25 Million US.

Le souvenir de la résistance contre Hitler a beaucoup évolué : faisant d’abord l’objet dans les années quarante d’un franc rejet, il fut finalement reconnu digne, avec beaucoup de précaution, d’entrer dans la tradition allemande. Des recherches scientifiques sûres manquant encore, une importance particulière doit être accordée à la condamnation d’Otto Ernst Remer à Brunswick en 1952 et au discours du Président fédéral Theodor Heuss à Berlin en 1954 ; les deux événements eurent comme conséquence un renversement tangible de l’attitude de larges secteurs de la population. La jeune armée joua un rôle pionnier dans le développement d’une position positive à l’égard de la résistance national-conservative. Mais même dans les nouvelles forces armées de la République ouest-allemande, la position vis-à-vis du «20 juillet» n’était cependant pas sans équivoque.

Abstract The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the Deutsche Hochschule für Politik (DHfP, German Political Studies Institute) in Berlin both emerged extramurally. LSE was founded in 1895 by Fabian socialists Sidney and Beatrice Webb; DHfP was established in 1920 by liberal-national publicists Ernst Jäckh and Theodor Heuss. However, superficial resemblances ended there, as shown in the paper’s first part. The founders’ aims differed markedly; incorporation into London and Berlin universities occurred at different times and in different ways. The chair of political science set up at LSE in 1914 was held, until 1950, by two reform-minded Fabians, Graham Wallas and Harold Laski. DHfP, which did not win academic recognition during the 1920s, split into nationalist, “functionalist”, and democratic “schools”. Against this backdrop, the paper’s second part discusses Harold Laski’s magnum opus (1925) A Grammar of Politics as an attempt at offering a vision of the “good society”, and Theodor Heuss’ 1932 study Hitler’s Course as an example of the divided Hochschule’s inability to provide adequate analytical assessments of the Nazi movement and of the gradual infringement, by established elites, of the Weimar constitution. Laski’s work and intellectual legacy reinforced the tendency towards the predominance, in British political science, of normative political theory. West German political science, initially pursued “from a Weimar perspective”, was also conceived as a highly normative enterprise emphasising classical political theory, the institutions and processes of representative government, and the problematic ideological and institutional predispositions peculiar to German political history. Against this background, the paper’s third part looks, on the one hand, at the contribution to “New Left” thinking (1961 ff.) by Ralph Miliband, who studied under Laski and taught at LSE until 1972, and at Paul Hirst’s 1990s theory of associative democracy, which builds on Laski’s pluralism. On the other hand, the paper considers Karl Dietrich Bracher’s seminal work The Failure of the Weimar Republic (1955) and Ernst Fraenkel’s 1964 collection Germany and the Western Democracies, which originated, respectively, from the (Research) Institute for Political Science – added to Berlin’s Free University in 1950 – and DHfP, re-launched in the same year. In a brief concluding fourth part, the paper touches on the reception, both in Great Britain and West Germany, of the approaches of “modern” American political science since the mid-1960s.

Zusammenfassung. Shared Decision-Making (SDM) ist besonders dort hilfreich, wo Entscheidungen Präferenz-sensitiv sind, das heisst wo die Präferenzen und Werte eines Patienten für das weitere Vorgehen entscheidend sind. Typischerweise sind dies Situationen, in denen der potenzielle Nutzen und der potenzielle Schaden nahe beieinander liegen. Präventive Aktivitäten zeichnen sich dadurch aus, dass der gegenwärtige Leidensdruck fehlt und der Benefit erst weit in der Zukunft liegt – ob sich also der gegenwärtige Aufwand wirklich lohnt, ist Präferenz-sensitiv. Der Ablauf von SDM im (präventiven) Beratungsgespräch kann in die drei Schritte «Team Talk», «Option Talk» und «Decision Talk» unterteilt werden. Für jeden Schritt zeige ich Beispiele, wie das Gespräch geführt werden kann. Nach einem Überblick zur Evidenzlage präsentiere ich vier konkrete Anwendungsbeispiele für SDM in der Prävention: Rauchstoppberatung, Lebensstil-Coaching, Impfberatung und Krebsscreening. Schliesslich thematisiere ich die Rolle von aktivierten Patienten bei SDM und weise auf die Gelegenheit für SDM bei Check-up-Untersuchungen hin. Für all diese Anwendungsbeispiele werden nützliche Instrumente und Links vorgestellt. Fazit: Wichtige SDM-Elemente wie Patientenzentriertheit, das Klären von Bedürfnissen/Zielen und gemeinsam getragene Verantwortung sind nicht nur in der Prävention, sondern auch für das gesamte Versorgungsspektrum von Patienten unverzichtbar.

The article analyzes the gymnasium poem Voyna gimnazistov s chertyami za osvobozhdenie K[esslera] iz ada (“The war of school students with devils for the liberation of K[essler] from hell”) by Konstantin A. Ivanov (1958–1919). It was preserved in two manuscripts in the personal archives of Il’ya A. Shlyapkin (RNL) and Vasiliy G. Druzhinin (RGALI), who were classmates of Ivanov. They were graduates of the Third St. Petersburg Classical Gymnasium. Konstantin Ivanov became a famous teacher, he also taught history and geography to the children of Emperor Nicholas II. He was an author of gymnasium textbooks, tutorial and essays on Russian and medieval foreign history. Another undoubted talent of Konstantin A. Ivanov is his poetic talent. The translation of Goethe’s Faust, published only in 2005 through the efforts of his heirs was the peak of his talent. The gymnasium poem was dedicated to the teacher of the Latin language of the 3rd St. Petersburg gymnasium Ernest E. Kessler. It was distributed in the lists, had a great success among students and teachers of the gymnasium. On the one hand, it is presented as a literary intellectual game based on imitations of 18th - 19th century Russian poetry, world classics, allusions to works of ancient literature and ancient myths, and on the other hand, as a playful work reflecting the everyday life of boarding-school pupils. The Sculpture Collection in the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest has been enriched in recent years with twenty-one marble portrait reliefs carved by Giovanni Bonazza (1654–1736) and his workshop. Fifteen reliefs were transferred within the institution and six were purchased from a private collection, but the identical creator and size, the uniform plaster framing and the themes of seventeen pieces – portraits of Italian rulers in the period of great migrations and the early Middle Ages – made it perfectly clear that they are pieces of a relief series scattered at an unknown date. The four “character heads” without caption, which deviate in theme from the series, are typical items of Venetian baroque sculpture.The search for the provenance of the reliefs led the author to the collector and art patron Miklós Jankovich (1773–1846), who possessed sixty-two marble reliefs (or sixty-four in later sources) which represented – to quote the collection inventories ‘Hunnish, Goth, Longobard kings and their successors who reigned in Italy after the Roman emperors’ from Alaric to emperor Saint Henry. Jankovich probably bought the series from the heirs of István Marczibányi after his death in 1810. In 1836 it passed into the National Museum as part of the first Jankovich collection. The inventorying of the paintings and sculptures in the Jankovich collection was interrupted by the great flood of Pest in spring 1838, and that must be the cause why the relief series was not included in the stock of the museum and its provenance got gradually forgotten. In 1924 the reliefs kept in the repository of the Collection of Antiquities as “insignificant items for the museum” not belonging to its collecting profile began to be sorted out. Thirty items were auctioned off in the Ernst Museum, twenty pieces were exchanged with László Mautner, an antiquities dealer in Budapest for an array of archaeological and historical objects. In the National Museum eleven portraits of kings and four character heads remained, delivered as “remnant” of the Historical Collection to the Museum of Fine Arts in 1943, from where they were transferred to the Hungarian National Gallery in 1957. The relief series from Giovanni Bonazza’s workshop once in the Jankovich collection must have been the only complete series of kings (though only known from second-hand information) which was carved after the book of engravings by the historian Emanuele Tesauro of Turin, Del regno d’Italia sotto I barbari, published in Turin in 1664. Its dispersion is an irretrievable loss.

Recalling the bleak landscape of German higher education in the aftermath of World War I, Peter Gay described the “republican political scientists” of the Deutsche Hochschule für Politik, a school for political studies established in Berlin in October 1920, as “directly, deliberately—I am tempted to say defiantly—involved in the political life of the Republic…”1 Karl Dietrich Bracher was no less emphatic in pointing to the Hochschule für Politik as the only institution of its day to appreciate the significance of the multi-party system as the driving force in modern political life.2 Led for nearly thirteen years by its founder and only president, the liberal political publicist, Ernst Jäckh, the Hochschule launched innovative programs in civic education and public service training designed to meet the educational needs of an emerging democracy. The Hochschule was radical in its mode of operation, holding evening classes for men and women from all vocations and educational backgrounds, including those lacking the Abitur typically required for admission to graduate and professional schools. Jäckh and his three directors of studies, Theodor Heuss (1920-1925), Hans Simons (1925-1930), and Arnold Wolfers (1930-1933), recruited what Gay described as a “first rate” standing faculty; developed a graduated, state-certified diploma program, and established specialized schools and seminars for economists, social workers, diplomat trainees, trade union officials, journalists, and teachers.3 They also established the Hochschule as a major center for international intellectual exchange, attracting the attention of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, which came to view the school as a partner in the Endowment's efforts to promote European rapprochement, and of the Rockefeller Foundation, which recruited Hochschule faculty to contribute dozens of articles to the first (1934) edition of the Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences and supported the school's research and publication efforts in political science, a field not then recognized as a distinct academic discipline at any German university.4 For Peter Gay, the contribution of the Hochschule to the spirit of Weimar lay primarily in the public engagement of its leadership and faculty. Their determination to “participate in the shaping of policy” “through deliberately cultivated ties to high government officials[,]” set the Hochschule apart from the Institute for Social Research (“a group of powerful intellects,” but perhaps not “a group of powerful intellectuals”).5 Their orientation was decidedly cosmopolitan—committed to the promotion of German recovery through international intellectual cooperation and the development of a scientifically based program of political studies.

Zwanzig Jahre nachdem am Psychoanalytischen Seminar Zürich ein Vortragszyklus mit dem Titel Vom Umgang mit der Homosexualität abgehalten wurde, freuen wir uns, Ihnen ein Heft zum Thema Heterosexualität und Homosexualität revisited zu präsentieren. Es scheint uns reizvoll, die damalige Vortragsreihe mit dem Inhalt unserer vorliegenden Nummer zu vergleichen. Schaut man sich die Liste der Vortragenden der damaligen Reihe im Wintersemester 1996/97 an, so stellt man fest, dass keine(r) zu den Schreibenden unseres aktuellen Heftes gehört. Sie haben nicht zuletzt einer jüngeren Generation Platz gemacht, was nicht heisst, dass sie nicht mehr rezipiert werden. So gehören Martin Dannecker, Eva Poluda-Korte, Udo Rauchfleisch, die damals alle in Zürich auftraten, zu den meist zitierten AutorInnen unseres Heftes – und von Mechtild Zeul ist im Beitrag von Rudolf-Petersen ein sehr schönes Fallbeispiel nachzulesen. Die damaligen OrganisatorInnen hatten bei der Titelgebung der Reihe bewusst den Akzent auf den Umgang (der Gesellschaft und insbesondere natürlich der Psychoanalyse) mit der Homosexualität setzen wollen und nicht auf die Gründe, die zu dieser oder jener Ausformung von Sexualität führen können. In der vorliegenden Sammlung machen nun zwei AutorInnen explizit dies zum Thema: Monika Gsell schreibt über das posthum erschienene Buch Grund zur Homosexualität von Judith Le Soldat und fragt, inwiefern die Autorin mit diesem Titel tatsächlich beansprucht hatte, den Grund für Homosexualität gefunden zu haben (s. dazu auch die Buchbesprechung zu Le Soldat von Schon und Stakelbeck in diesem Heft). Ebenfalls mit diesem Thema befasst sich Ralf Binswanger, der dabei aber eine ganz andere Perspektive wählt, wie schon der Titel seines Beitrags bekundet: (K)ein Grund zur Homosexualität. Ein Plädoyer zum Verzicht auf psychogenetische Erklärungsversuche von homosexuellen, heterosexuellen und anderen Orientierungen heisst sein Beitrag, in welchem der Autor auch eine Revision des Perversionsbegriffs vorschlägt. Im damaligen Eröffnungsvortrag referierte Erhard Künzler aus München über seine schwierigen Erfahrungen in der psychoanalytischen Gesellschaft als ein schwuler Psychoanalytiker, der sein Coming-out erst nach seiner Ausbildung, als bereits erfahrener und geachteter Psychoanalytiker machte. Im vorliegenden Heft berichten nun zwei KollegInnen, Angela Hennig (im Beitrag von Julia Braun) und Lothar Schon über ihre Erfahrungen in der Institution als KandidatInnen, die ihre Homosexualität nicht mehr verheimlichen wollten: Erschütternd sind die Erinnerungen Hennigs in Brauns Beitrag, und eindrücklich zeigen Schons Ausführungen, wie viel sich doch in nicht einmal zwanzig Jahren verändert hat – zum Guten, wie wir feststellen können, wenngleich Irritationen bleiben und uns wohl noch eine Zeitlang beschäftigen werden. Darauf weist auch Victoria Preis hin, die eine Beschäftigung mit dem «homophoben Erbe» fordert und der Rolle der Fantasien über Homosexualität und Homosexuelle nachgeht – der Fantasien der Psychoanalytiker wohlgemerkt – und deren Bedeutung für den psychoanalytischen Zugang zum homosexuellen Patienten. Der Untertitel ihres Beitrages lautet Zum Umgang der Psychoanalyse mit Homosexualität, also fast wörtlich so, wie der Titel unseres Zyklus von 1995/96. Am Schluss ihres Beitrags wirft Preis die provokante Frage auf, ob es nicht zuletzt auch ökonomische Überlegungen sein könnten, die die Institutionen zum Umdenken bringen. Verschiedene AutorInnen (Barron, Burgermeister und Garcia, Hutfless) setzen sich mit der Queer Theory auseinander, die in den letzten zwanzig Jahren vor allem in den USA entwickelt wurde und die sich für eine Entpathologisierung nicht nur der Homosexualität, sondern u. a. auch der Transsexualität einsetzt. Wir Europäer können dabei erstaunt zur Kenntnis nehmen, dass in den USA bereits die ersten Transsexuellen zur psychoanalytischen Ausbildung zugelassen wurden. Interessant scheint uns auch die Tatsache, dass sich die Vertreter dieser Queer Theory in Vielem auf Lacan beziehen. Ohne die Queer Theory zu nennen, zielt Heenen-Wolffs Beitrag in eine ähnliche Richtung, plädiert sie doch für eine «Dekonstruktion eines normativen psychoanalytischen Konzepts» und dabei für eine Aufwertung des Polymorph- Sexuellen. Könnte dieser in vielen Beiträgen zum Ausdruck kommende Hang zur Dekonstruktion und zur Aufwertung des Polymorph-Sexuellen, ja des Triebhaften (und damit der Triebtheorie) eine allgemeine Entwicklung der heutigen Psychoanalyse anzeigen? Mit Rudolf-Petersens Beitrag kehren wir gleichsam an den Anfang zurück: Sie stellt zwei Konzepte vor, von denen das eine (von Poluda-Korte) eine lesbische Entwicklungslinie, eine Weichenstellung postuliert, also eine Art «Grund zur Homosexualität», während das andere (von Ermann) die (männliche) Homosexualität als gegeben annimmt und sich auf die Auseinandersetzung (den Umgang!) des Individuums mit eben seiner Sexualität konzentriert. Die Autorin spricht sich weder für das eine noch das andere Konzept aus, sondern benutzt beide und zeigt anhand eines Fallbeispiels (von Mechtild Zeul), dass es bei der Behandlung vor allem darum geht, als Analytikerin möglichst offen und flexibel zu bleiben und sich nicht von einer starren Theorie (in die Irre) leiten zu lassen. Noch etwas zu Grammatik und Geschlechterfrage: Sie werden feststellen, dass diesbezüglich in diesem Heft die Schreibweise uneinheitlich ist. Die AutorInnen benutzen verschiedene Formen. Wir haben beschlossen, auf eine Vereinheitlichung zu verzichten und jeder Autorin, jedem Autor die Entscheidung zu überlassen. Einerseits ist zur Zeit in dieser Sache nichts entschieden, ja alles im Fluss, und anderseits legt damit das Schriftbild Zeugnis ab von einer Vielfalt, für die dieses Heft in Sachen Sexualität stehen soll. Wir hoffen, Sie verzeihen uns diese Zumutung – und wünschen Ihnen bei der Lektüre viel Vergnügen!
