This study, which is involved in improving the researches about teaching practices, aims at examining to what extent the training of the physics teachers in the Tunisian context and concerning sciences based on investigation, contributes in boosting teachers’ practice. As a theoretical framework we choosed to adopt a double approach didactic and ergonomic (Robert and Rogalski, 2002).Ail the data was gathered from TP papers, lesson’s supervision and samples of interviews. In this paper we represent an analysis for two practices of two teachers of physics. In the first part our analysis is based on cognitive dimension focusing on projects in order to rebuild the cognitive way implemented by the teacher. In the second part our analysis is based on meditative dimension that allows us give instructions about the co-teaching observed by the teachers, the tasks that can be added and the necessary teaching skills. The third part is devoted to personal, institutional and social dimensions in order to trace background the teacher’s practices. After gathering all the data, from different lessons, we noticed that teachers are guided by the logic of activities with relation with the type of the lesson so that teachers’ practices are characterized by certain variabilites and that is due to their training in type approaches investigation

Summary of the thesis this is a phenomenalogical study of the representation of the feminine self in a socio-scholastic environment the summary is as follows : book one specificity of a strategy for a pedagogicla communication book two : based on different kinds of situations in the field of the sciences of education book three : phenomenology in pedagogy book four : communication and education based on interviews with teachers book five : analses and conclusions about the training of a female teacher the purpose of this thesis has been to intentionally direct the discussion to the hidden dimension of the act of teaching because it appears that "what has the most important impact is what is not discussed ans above all what the female teacher has not been trained for that which remains unsaid in this occupation, or the entire subjectivity of practising pedagogy"

The present thesis fits into the field of the exploratory research on the didactical issues of the initial and continuous training of teachers of French as a foreign language in the Saudi context: between institutional objectives and the teachers’ expectations. The study focuses on the initial and ongoing training of future teachers. Based on the data collected from the different tools used for this purpose, namely questionnaires, interviews and the analysis of the models of the initial training curriculum of 3 prominent Saudi universities, the research highlights the gap that exists between the prescriptive and the description of the training. In this work, we, as a French teacher at the university in Saudi Arabia, are interested in learning French in generalas part of the training of French teachers, and in particular the learning difficulties that meet the students of French Language. In a rapidly changing society, such as Saudi Arabia, there has been a change in initial and continuous training in recent years, impacted by the introduction of information technologies by the effect of globalization, which demands continuous updating of skills. Our goal is to analyze the initial training given to female students in the French department at Saudi universities who will soon be future teachers. It is therefore starting from this problematic related to the need to provide training that is both flexible and continuous and the need to adapt continuing education to the needs of students that we conducted our research in a theoretical and exploratory perspective

The hypothesis which I would like to bring about at the beginning of this survey is on the following : It is not the training experience which in itself is the deciding factor, but the training drive. To be more precise, it is not the enrollment in a training program which can alter the course of events but the teacher's formulation or teaching staff's questioning. To emphasize my thesis, I have made up four groups of teachers : the first group (Experimental Group) is which made up of fifteen teaching staff having requested a training session on the usage of the national primary school evaluations for eight year olds, following the next school year with the same group of pupils and the above staff succeeding in obtaining their teacher's training education. The second group is made up of teachers who have requested to be enrolled but have not been accepted. The third group is made up of teachers which have not wished to be trained and having nevertheless been officially enrolled in this training session. The fourth group is made up of teachers who have not asked anything and who will not be enrolled. 564 pupils (around 140 per group) have been evaluated at three successive periods, during one year. This has given me to bring about a comparative analysis, and draw some conclusions on the influential commitment with or without training on pupils' scholastic performance

This research in Sciences of Education focuses on teaching practices. The general hypothesis is that the future teachers hold different practices as they have or not a previous significant amount of work experience. The teaching practices shall be understood in accordance with Bandura’s meaning as the structuring between dimensions pertaining to the person, the behaviour and the background. Therefore, the approach turns out to be comparative between these two populations, but also heuristic as for the practices in all their dimensions. Concerning our data collection, after an exploratory phase, we proposed a questionnaire filled in by future teachers (N=324) who trained in the vocational school ESPE de La Réunion in 2013 and sought to prepare for a career in primary and secondary education. Our study included observations of sessions (N=12) in secondary school. The testing of empiricism offers to validate the general and comparative hypothesis of significant differences on some elements of practices, in particular concerning the socio-cognitive dimensions. From a heuristic perspective, we identified a specificity of the Reunionese environment compared with the mainland France background as far as the behaviour is concerned

My research addresses the teaching of writing skills, and the production of pieces of writings in third cycle (CE2, CM1 and CM2) of French primary schools in particular. Through the works of French didacticians on which I relied to understand the teaching of writing, the project of writing is seen as a motivating introduction to teaching that allows students to be active in their writings, while the usual school activity is strongly criticized. For many years, official programs echoed these didactic views. However, the most recent programs, these of 2008, mark a break and use only the term "writings" at the expense of "production of writings." These programs have therefore created a tension / raised a problem. Indeed, there is a break in the terminology used, thus creating a blur between the concepts of teaching writing in the 2008 programs and these of didactics. Because of this, I wonder how teachers are actually teaching writing. On what representation models do they base their representations to make third cycle pupils produce pieces of writing? What term do they use?

When studying the professional knowledge and background of FLE (French as a foreign language) teachers in Greece, we cannot be content with a cognitive approach that questions their knowledge with the only aim of formalizing their teaching into patterns of action. Most high School teachers in Greece are, from the start, disappointed with this one and only cognitive approach as taught by educational counsellors and trainers. This research/training is more concerned with anthropological matters, as it considers linguistic knowledge and speech practice as linked to the construction of the subject' identity. Through the teachers' life story, we can make "reflection" and "sensation" meet to form a heuristic way for research on educational training. The life story is also set in the history of speech forms and pragmatics of communication, hence it creates a sociolinguistic situation for the building of meaning, a meaning co-built in linguistic interactions between the scientist and the practitioners. We hope this study will help opening new perspectives on FLE didactics and educational policies in Greece

This exploratory study presents a portrait of the social representations of the education of pre-university college teachers. It attempts to understand how the values and practices of teachers are linked to one another. To do this, it analyses these social representations in light of three spheres: the social representation of education within society (social sphere), that of the collegiate institution (institutional sphere) and that of rapport between student and teacher (individual sphere). Each of these spheres is described in reference to different dimensions of the social representation (cognitive, affective and behavioral). This study also examines the influence of two variables on the social representations that teachers have on education. It first looks at the influence of ideological orientation induced in the course of teachers’ study (or not) in pedagogy and then at the influence of the very subculture of the program being taught (Humanities or Natural Sciences).

The author tries to seize the processes at work in the intimate link developed by a teacher with his/her academic subject, in the present case musical education in secondary schools. The study is built on a psychoanalytically-oriented approach. Questioning her own link to music, a matter of identity, the author sets the theoretical and conceptual background upon which she develops her research questions by working through counter-tranferential elements. The paper is organized in four parts. In the prologue, between myth and reality, the author presents a clinical reading of a story that launches the questions dealt with in the first part, the cornerstone of the encounter between two types of listening : musical and clinical. The second part is dedicated to musical education as an academic subject from a socio-historical and institutional point of view, highlighting the delicate issues raised by it's teaching. A clinical reading of the national curriculum for music (1997) complements this presentation. In the third part, interviews with four junior high school music teachers' are analyzed. From these it can be infered how teachers, psychically speaking, reconcile their link to music with the didactical link, through a study in object-relation and narcissistic modes. To conclude, the author analyzes a didactical situation she has experienced in her own practice and that has been worked through. This leads her to consider as a necessity to offer to teachers the possibility, on a continuous training basis, of benefiting from clinical support devices for their professional pratice

It is exactly a question of showing the impact of a. Curriculaire reform, with regard to the education (teaching) of the elementarv algebra. On the practices of the teachers in the System of Tunisian secondary education. We turn to good account the existing works to approach this problem by taking two essential dimension and the professional dimension. A fine analysis of the actual practices of three teachers reveals as well evolutions as stability bringing us to distinguish several forms of adaptation to the reform: those " correspondence of surface" and those "in-depth correspondence " to praxeologic organization prescribed by a reform

Through the particular choice of a multicultural context it aims to identify various integration forms within the experiential dimension of teachers' « acting ». Coordinating theory developing approach with a data analysis, it attempts to understand teachers of French as a foreign language's « acting » processes within schools of languages along with our own experiences as a teacher in primary schools. The focus is to comprehend the work practice multiple dimensions while questioning the posture adopted within professional « gestures ». To this end, a biographic and hermeneutics approach will be relied upon in order to access to the professionals career history as well as some of the teachers' transactions. This will highlight their entry into and progressive mastering of the profession. Finally, formalizing of an experiential and congruous teacher's acting will be developed

This PhD thesis, situated at the crossroads of two domains – language and culture learning and teaching and learning sciences – deals with the way Beninese primary school teachers appropriated the IFADEM programme - « Initiative Francophone pour la Formation à Distance des Maîtres » (Francophone Initiative for Distance Education of Teachers), as a lifelong education environment in the teaching and learning of « French as Foreign/Second Language Learning ». Our purpose is to suggest new avenues aimed at improving the appropriation of this education environment. Our approach is based on a theoretical model of appropriation informed by a transdisciplinary theoretical stance and by the specifics of the context under study, but also on a triangulation method mixing questionnaire surveys, semi-directive interviews, self-confrontation interviews and observations of actual practises (situating). We try to identify the « indicators » of appropriation as well as the « effects » of the education environment on the « actual pedagogical practises » of teachers. Holistic theories of language learning – and more specifically bilingual education, translanguaging and the theories on oral skills development have given a foundation to the analysis and the comprehension of the research situation. The stability of our analyses, made possible by the choice of a triangulation methodology, confirms that the appropriation paths are determined by interdependency relations between factors of situational (contextualisation), relational (relationships with peers) and individual (self-system, reflexivity, epistemological distancing) natures. It also allows us to reach the following conclusions : the teachers who benefitted from the IFADEM training use it instrumentally and more specifically use the tasks they were proposed to improve the teaching of oral skills in and of French, in order to tackle the question of plurilingualism. These teachers are faced with several scale variations which engender constraints and tensions in their pedagogical activities, thus hindering the appropriation of the education environment. The analysis of the appropriation process in the light of emergentism and of complex systems of activity leads to the conclusion that the tensions generated by the implementation of the IFADEM progamm are part and parcel of its process of transformation. The absence of institutionalised and sustained feedback is the real hindrance to the appropriation of the education environment. In order to reduce these discrepancies in a positive way and to guarantee appropriation, turning to mediation and a task-based approach would constitute a middle way. In particular, it would allow the IFADEM environment to come within the scope of a co-evolutive approach, which is essential to the balance of systems. Taking into account all these analyses and adjustments helps this research to reach the elaboration of a model of appropriation

Since the end of the 1980s, laïcité has been placed at the center of the values transmitted at school, and so become a fundamental issue in the training of students. However, alarming findings on school and infrigements of laïcité in some of them are still reported during political debates and in the media. Political injunctions aimed at defending laïcité do not seem to ease tensions. The school of the Republic would always be in difficulty in the face of the "threat of communitarianism" and "attacks on laïcité". How to understand the reality of teaching work in this context? What can be the tensions, the difficulties, in the implementation of prescriptions? To answer these questions, an ethnographic survey was conducted during one school year in three different public middle schools. The results of this survey make it possible to argue that teachers' strategies for overcoming the hardships associated with laïcité lead to justified actions, with reference to a variety of justification models that are characteristic of teaching work today. Injunctions are reconfigured according to local and individual logic, with the goal of maintaining school peace and student success. Scholar laïcité in a situation is therefore ahybrid form, strongly inscribed in a local and situational conception of school justice, and, in reference to different principles of justice. This makes it possible to defend the thesis of a hybridization based on the principles of justice, resources for solving difficulties but also sources of instability when renormalization is not based on a professional debate allowing at least temporary stabilization of the common rules of action

The thesis focuses on the training of teachers of FLE (Francais Langue Étrangère) who work in secondary schools in Yemen. Our idea is to demonstrate the importance of specialized training of teaching foreign languages, namely French – a training that does not exist in Yemen. Our research questions are based on three main axes: the first one investigates the sociocultural, sociolinguistic, educational and institutional contexts in Yemen. The second axis explores the concepts and notions which deal with the issue of teacher training of FLE. Finally, the third axis revolves around the development of a training curriculum.Concerning the practical part, we carried out the fieldwork in Yemen. We administered two questionnaires for university students of the fourth year and teachers of French in secondary schools. We also made observations of French classes in some secondary schools in Taiz. Our thesis has resulted in the design of a teacher training curriculum of FLF, taking into account all the components and all the variables of the domain in which we conducted our study

Appear by now some social, political, informational uncertainties that structure the dynamic of the controversies in the social space. Within classroom, the teaching of socially acute questions (as nuclear energy, GMOs, animal welfare, etc) provides the opportunity to work on these uncertainties. How do the uncertainties encountered by science teachers reconfigure their relation to the knowledge involved in the controversy and the representation they have about science teaching? I investigated in two educational systems, general education (biology teachers) and agricultural education (teachers from different disciplines) around the acute question of agroecological transition. Overall, socially acute questions expose the teachers to epistemic insecurity. Intrinsically, these questions lead them to construct their point of view on the subject during the course preparation or potentially during the teaching activity. It implies a reconfiguration of their professional posture that some of them accept, mourning epistemic completeness, and that others don’t accept, looking for strengthening their position concerning knowledge mastering. My observation of professional training situations – around mapping controversies or developing a pedagogical scenario – shows that some devices of socio-scientific inquiry allow an exploration of the question’s complexity. However, efficient tools have still to be thought or adapted, as scenarios of the future, in complement with a real epistemological and informational training of science teachers. These are the living conditions of an uncertainty education that would give to the citizens resources for a reappropriation of their futures and, finally, create opportunities whose socio-political relevance is the proper horizon
Nunez, Moscoso Javier. "Travail enseignant et formation : la culture des enseignants des spécialités agricoles au Chili." Thesis, Toulouse 2, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013TOU20141/document.
Повний текст джерелаThis research has the dual purpose of analyzing the work of teachers in vocational agricultural education in Chile (especiallytheir professional problems) and making proposals for their training. For this, it mobilizes an abduction procedure (Peirce, 1965) based on an epistemology of discovery extended by an hermeneutic approach that gets hypotheses to emerge later on.Teachers’ work is viewed as a system of professional practices (Marcel , 2004) and studied from the points of view of activity, status and experience (Tardif & Lessard, 1999). This framework structures a methodological set of tools that enhances the production of a consistent and varied empirical corpus. The interpretation of these elements allows to uncover the symbolic nature of teachers' work and support the general assumption of a cultural side to this work. This hypothesis comes in two parts. First teachers have a role as cultural mediators between the agricultural professional world and the school system and, secondly, that professional difficulty is normalized in daily work. One can therefore describe a "cultural mediation area" for teachers in agriculture. To get these contributions to benefit training, an engineering approach to training is deployed, which "translates" elements of the "cultural mediation area" into terms of professional knowledge. This knowledge is integrated into a proposal of training scenarios, not as a prescription, but as an assistance to policy decision-making

In Brazil, mass education has led to a growing demand for teachers who are, today, largely recruited in the lower class. Most of them constitute the first generation benefiting from education in their families. This research focuses on how teachers appropriate the written culture in order to mediate it. To this purpose, a corpus of language data has been constituted: interviews, class observations, texts written in both professional and training contexts. Analysis of interviews indicates that their discursive modes may differ according to their working out and uses of language. Analysis of texts shows that the insertion of the teachers-to-be in full literacy is sometimes of formal order as their writing practices turn out to be of a restricted use. From observations, it appears that the construction of a schooling frame as a context of integration into literacy can be made either on a full mode or a restricted mode of literacy. Practices are potentially unequal as regards their democratizing potential. Putting together these different corpuses confirms the idea that some teachers are hardly literate at all and that it has consequences when it comes to initiate pupils in school literacy

So they are in a permanent tension, which is the main characteristic of the teachers' condition. That definites ontologically teacher's being. This tension may have negative effects when one of both terms is forgotten. That appears in corporative discourses from traditionnal school defenders. The production of positive effects comes through great efforts in order to rationalize, as if teachers needed excuses to be generous in teaching. It also comes through a great deal of universitary references, as if they allways needed remembrance of their legitimacy origines. When a teacher cannot manage the contradiction between university knowledge and school knowledge, he must accept the idea that knowledge is composite ; pupils become partners in the knowledge production instead of being teacher's knowledge receivers. Teacher's stress at holding both terms is nearly impossible to bear. To find a new balance, one should have a personal reflexion which needs a new vocabulary. Instead of transmission, one should speak about knowledge sharing

The curriculum reform that Burundi has initiated in basic and secondary schools calls for teaching practices to which some teachers were not initially trained. In our study, we are interested in teaching mathematics in the 4th cycle of the fundamental school. To help teachers caracterized by a variety of initial training profiles to implement this curriculum change, in-service teacher training for all teachers is provided during the school holidays. Our goal is to explore how teachers are using theirknowledge to implement the expected mathematics curriculum, and to analyze the needs related to their practices in order to improve the professionalization of initial and continuing education of teachers who teach in that cycle. The results obtained by performing a qualitative content analysis of data from the interviews conducted with 20 teachers and a statistical treatment with the SPSS software of data from the written questionnaire, sent to 105 teachers, are consistent. Teachers tend to follow thecurriculum prescriptions in the teacher's guide, which is considered as well constructed but is not likely to favor the reflexive work of teachers. Teachers who have been trained in mathematics teaching, rely on didactic and pedagogical knowledge acquired in initial training while the others exploit their experience in teaching. Continuing training do not match the expectations of teachers because of the short duration, the non-mathematical content and the disciplinary incompetence of the trainers. In order to improve the professionalization of training courses, initial teacher training institutions should refer to the subject-specific teaching, teaching and teaching skills needed to implement the current teaching curriculum. A reflection must be undertaken on the professional knowledge that should be the subject of initial training and on how to teach it. Continuing education should be organized on the basis of a prior analysis of the real needs of teachers. These continuing education and training which should be longer than usual should focus on the specific content and practices provided for in the curriculum, and provided by trainers chosen for their skills

In the light of this, a teacher's performance should not be viewed as a model to be imitated but rather a set of behavioural patterns which may be brought into play in a class of foreing language instruction

The research consists in an investigation into and analysis of what the experience of going into the job involves for primary school teachers, as beginners. Favouring a comprehensive approach, we have watched the course of eight school teachers from the taking up of their post to the end of their second year of teaching. Comparing the subject matter of the study to Pineau’s 1989 three-lined theory of self-training, this thesis aims at making the ways and means through which the teachers’s professionality is progressively structuring and strenghtening intelligible

Our thesis focuses on teacher training in an education system that prioritizes access to quality education for all. In what way does distance training lead to the professionalization of contract teachers ? Taking into account both the pratice of the distance training and the exercise of the teachers in the analysis of their professionalization, this research draws on the theoretical framework based on the activity theory and professional didactics. This research, studying the distance training from the point of views of users, privilegdes an approach of the land centered on the work of teachers in training. It mobilizes classroom videos followed by self-recall and semi-directive interviews of education officers and trainees. The results obtained highlight, on the one hand, the main element of description of the system of distance training and, one the other hand, the dimension professionalizing it. They confirmed that distance learning improves professionalization of contract teachers by reinforcing their professional skills. This professionalization is done through two different but complimentary methods : professionalization by training and professionalization which relies on experience. Taking into consideration these two ways of professionalizing contract teachers renders their overall professionalization meaningful

After the 25th April Revolution in 1974, which turned Portugal into a democratic country, the Portuguese educational system had be reorganized to adapt itself to a new reality. In the present thesis we aim at clarifying a question related to a new system of In-service Teacher Training implemented in Portugal in 1992. This system of In-service Teacher Training is closely connected to the progression in the teachers’ career. It means that the teachers need to gather a certain number of certified hours of training to obtain the corresponding number of credits to progress in the career. The implementation of this system was negotiated with the Teachers’ Trade Unions and at the same time it answered past demands of the class. The Teachers’ Trade Unions welcomed those new measures and assumed an important role in the process that led to the new law. After the ‘mise en place’, the teachers reacted negatively, not to the training, but to the system of credits. The Teachers’ Trade Unions soon joined this movement and conducted a process to demand the end of the system of credits. The research we have done aimed at understanding the roles of the different people involved in the process and the reasons of the Teachers’ Trade Unions to contest the system of credits. The methodology chosen was qualitative and the main documents used were interviews and printed materials

This research has been conducted within the current context of the initial training of teachers of english in france. It aims to provide some elements for a rationale in the didactics of teacher-training, according to the constituent parts of subject-matter knowledge as defined by social expectations and epistemological selection. The presentation of the system of activity in which supervisory conferencing takes place indicates the relationship between the identity crisis that the two partners experience and the sociocultural representations of teaching and teacher-training in the french culture : these representations are sustained by the lack of institutional acknowlegement of the need for professional training in education. An explicit contract is required to underpin teacher education. Linguistic analysis of several teaching episodes carried out in class by student-teachers at the beginning of their teaching practice shows a variety of needs in terms of substantive and syntactic knowledge in the fields of linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and socio-cultural anthropology. Analysis of a supervisory conference revealed some evidence of the mental operations which constitute didactic thinking and has demonstrated how the reflective approach can help student-teachers of english to build their professional competence and shape their identity. The conceptual change which generates didactic thinking takes place in interactive situations. This complex process can only evolve within personal cognitive time. Considering what is at stake in education, the state, as employer, must take the recruitment and training of teachers seriously. The painful state of professional deprivation of our student-teachers on the morrow of their success in the capes, cannot be pre-ordained. A radical reform of the recruiting procedures seems necessary if we are to meet the didactic, economic and ethical requirements of the profession

The evolution of the teaching technics is the result of the fast spreading of the scientific strides. Therefore education appears as a variable connected with modern technology, so that is imperious to adjust both teachers and programs of professional training. Teaching, today, is an essential part of the evolution and of the creation of skills. This job can't be carried out without a strong training, specially for the trainers, the teachers in other words. This is a study of the libyan situation. Libya is a developing country which needs highly trained teachers. This country bears the heritage of a past promoting ignorance and illiterate people. Now it is time have skilled school-teachers by offering them the necessary training. Giving them higher standard of training seems to be the paramount step to increase the level of the teacher's ability. This survey shows the teacher's opinions about their inadequate initial training and the sub-qualification on the school-teachers. Then a solution to the teaching problem in libya is proposed. Following what is done in many developed countries, this solution leads to increase the pedagogical skills of the school-teachers

In an educational situation, a correlation is formed between social and cultural background and pedagogy. The educational system hasn't weakened the social theory which affirm the correspondance between social origin and school results. The best explanation for scholastic failure, for teachers, is the concept of social and cultural "handicap". This notion, presenting the "handicap" as the child's individual deficiency, preservs the educational system from all responsability as to pupils scholastic failure. A "handicap" is conditioned by a situation always compared with an idealized "no-handicap" situation. We are all, in one way or another, "handicaped" and "handicapers". The teacher. Wether a responsable actor or a passive actor of the institution, transmits that of which the individual is bearer: he teaches not only what he knows but also what he is and he cannot guarantee systematically a normative institutional neutrality. A gap exists between the teacher's and the individual's background references, between the teacher-person's background and the school's culture, between the school's culture and the multicultural (or pluricultural) national tendency. These gaps, in the event of school failure, are strategical places which have consequencies on the efficiency of pedagogical exercise and which determine the teacher's, the educational system's and policy's pedagogical "handicap"

This research questions the meaning of professionalization policy as it is led by the french department of education, especially through preservice teacher education. This process is described as a specific way of structuring an instrumental approach with a "communicational" approach. The hypothesis is made that this process leads to the building up of a defined space fro professional autonomy, the condition for teachers social status increase. This research then analyses the traditional teaching professionalities, in order to put in light shared standards of practise and the knowledges they are based on. It examines how the changes that took place in the conditions and contexts of the educational practice have made the traditional forms of teaching practices inadequate. This researche lastly challenges the strength of the "teacher-as-a-professional" model and examines the set up of the new preservice education through official publications and training programs in different "IUFM". It brings out the fact that the major stack of the professionalization process consists of redefining teaching skills and identities, and also changing the usual references of professionality

Teachers affect strongly what their students learn. Results from value added studies are unequivocial about it. As we now know how important are the teachers to promote student achievement, we have to offer them the best preparation possible. But how to make sure that teachers are prepared the best way? What would be the elements to incorporate into a teacher preparation programs to assure its effectiveness ? In order to answer this question, we adopted the conceptual frame offered by Medley (1977). This frame aims to assess the preparation of teachers with two loops, namely validation loop and assessment loop. Our two literature reviews allowed us to link these two loops and to answer this question: The competencies aimed at in validation loop, namely practices that help students learn, are there those aimed at in the teacher preparation programs? In other words, is the preparation of tomorrow’s teachers intended to prepare them to use practices identified by research to be the most effective to help students improve their academic performance? Pedagogical practices derived from research on teacher effectiveness, proven to promote student academic performance, are not present in teacher education programs. Structured and explicit teaching, found to be the most effective by research, is disregarded in teacher education programs in benefit of constructivist teaching, identified by research to be less effective to help students learn, but perceived favourably by faculty members. Therefore, we conclude that the elements to take into account in the elaboration of an effective teacher education program would be those linked to practices identified by research to promote student learning, namely structured and explicit teaching.
