Анотація:

Radiotelephony English is taught in college for the learners whose future professions are mainly pilots and air traffic controllers. The present study is to analyse the radiotelephony English test design in a university to see the extent of which it evaluates learners’ communicative competence in aviation scope. Theoretical frameworks on communicative competence, modern test theory and ICAO language proficiency requirements for the learners of radiotelephony communication are presented. The study reveals that learners’ communicative competence which includes both radiotelephony and everyday communication skills are important components in radiotelephony test design. The study points out that the application of modern test theory in designing radiotelephony test in college is vital in meeting the validity and reliability of the test and the students’ individual needs in English language learning for future career needs to be reflected in the test design.

Анотація:

This study is aimed at researching learning plans of Senior High School English textbooks based on the big concept, promoting the overall English teaching design of Senior High School, and encouraging students to carry out deep study. It mainly uses discourse analysis method for English unit teaching designs, arranges the content of unit teaching reasonably, and promotes the quality of English teaching in high schools through a complete unit theme teaching. This study, by sorting out the connotation, characteristics and relevant literature of big concept, takes Unit 4, Compulsory 1 of New Yilin Senior High School English textbooks as an example to explore the overall teaching design of units pointing to deep study. Findings of the research include: learning plans of Senior High School English textbooks based on the big concept makes English teaching from scattered to interrelated, promoting students’ deep study, and implementing core English literacy; learning plans based on the big concept are quite beneficial to the development of both teachers and students.

The objectives of this study are to describe how indicators, learning objectives and teaching materials are stated in English lesson plans for Elementary School Students based on the criteria of instructional designs using School-Based Curriculum. Five English lesson plans available online are analyzed in this study using content analysis design. The results show that statements of indicators and learning objectives are not matched with the criteria of good instructional design. In addition, learning objectives do not indicate actual teaching materials and action verbs to indicate measurable teaching-learning outcomes do not match to each other.

College English teaching is in urgent need of a platform which may improve stu-dents' initiative in English learning, raise learning interest and enhance English teaching management, in order to improve students' English level and facilitate the teacher's English teaching management. The popularity of campus network facili-ties in various universities provides hardware support for the establishment of a personalized English teaching platform based on campus network. The study is aimed at designing a personalized English teaching platform based on campus network, which takes VBSCRIPT as programming language and SQL Server as database software of the platform, completing the interactive processing of the da-ta based on the data structure of client computer/server (B/S). First, the paper in-troduces the relevant teaching and education theories, laying theoretical and tech-nical basis for the design of personalized English teaching platform in combina-tion with the computer technology used in the design of the platform. The combi-nation of questionnaire and analytic study is used in the design of the system from various aspects, and makes the design of the platform come true. At last, the testing of the system verifies that the system meets the relevant functional re-quirement. The platform would provide an open environment for English learning and stimulating the guidance of teachers and is of great significance to improve the level of college English teaching.

This study aimed at investigating the English Language Teachers' perspectives toward design thinking and to examine the effect of experience, gender, and qualification factors on their perspectives. The study sample consisted of 135 teachers (64 females, 33 male) from Amman 1 Educational Directorate. The researcher developed a design thinking scale, its validity and reliability were approved. The results indicated that English Language teachers had a high degree of knowledge and practice about design thinking (mean= 4.10, S. D= 0.37) and there were no statistically significant differences in the design thinking means attributed to gender, teachers’ experience, or qualification. The study recommends conducting more research on design thinking, including different samples of teachers from disciplines other than English, and conducting qualitative research to observe the degree to which teachers apply design thinking strategies.

At present, the teaching, training, and assessment programs of English speaking courses in schools are basically carried out by the teaching method of face-to-face teaching by teachers, especially in the English speaking assessment; students and teachers communicate with each other to answer questions, while the students’ performance is subjectively judged by the school English teachers. This model not only consumes the teaching resources of school English teachers but also cannot ensure the uniformity of grading standards. To this end, this paper designs and proposes an English speaking test system with the aim of building an intelligent speaking test system by designing a speech recognition deepening frequency processing function through SSM framework combined with JSP technology and deep learning theory. The English speaking test system designed in this paper integrates several open source frameworks, adopts modular design, and divides it into two subsystems, student-side module system and teacher-side module system for system framework design, and finally, this system is tested for functionality. The system was designed and implemented through the framework description, functional description, and functional testing of this system, and finally, the English speaking test system was designed and implemented. The system is designed and implemented to change the traditional one-to-one mode of school teaching, save teachers’ manpower, strengthen the content of intensive training for students’ English proficiency and improve the frequency of exams, facilitate school administrators and English teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching implementation, and develop corresponding effective individualized teaching and guidance strategies for schools to provide convenience, which can greatly reduce the recognized labor intensity of English teachers and provide a correct evaluation of students, a correct evaluation of the level, and other roles.

English is essential for children because it is an international language that is al-ways used in various fields, both in the world of work, education, economics, and social. One method of learning for children is by playing while learning. Gamification in the field of education is an educational approach to motivate stu-dents to enjoy learning by applying the game design. The purpose of this study is to approach the learning of English, specifically for children in kindergarten schools so that children will be more interested and feel happy to continue learning. The gamification method uses a mobile phone-based application with video games. Gamification in question is an English language recognition game for children with games. The introduction of English includes three categories, namely numbers, pictures, and spelling. The result is a mobile-based application that can be used by children to play the introduction of English with the concept of gamification. With the existence of gamification, the conception of children who were initially afraid to learn English became brave and more confident. The contribution given through this paper is to motivate children's willingness to learn English through other learning methods, namely gamification. Make children feel comfortable and not afraid to learn new things, especially English.

Abstract : Curriculum is designed to be the guidelines for lecturers to provide clearer, achievable, and measurable teaching goals. Instructions in a good curriculum should be effective. Students require a suitable curriculum for what they need to learn and for characteristics they have. This research applies qualitative methods with descriptive case study as its framework, to analyze the syllabus of an English Course in Politeknik LP3I Bandung called English for Specific Purposes One: English for Job Seekers. The theories adapted from Hunkins and Allan (2009), Posner (1992), Johnson (1989), Nunan (1988), and McGrath (2002) and Richard (2001). The data were gained from document analysis and interview. The result of the analysis showed that the syllabus of the course has partially met all required aspects expected to meet students’ characteristics and to fulfill the characteristic of quality syllabuses that would enable students to achieve maximum learning achievement. This situation indicates that the syllabus in need of further improvement.

English language learning is not a new thing in Indonesia, many people want to learn English for various purposes. However, not all students can easily achieve their goals and follow the learning process. One of the factors is language learning strategy. This research aimed to investigate the students’ English language learning strategies and its correlation with the English academic achievement. Descriptive and correlational design, quantitative and qualitative methods were applied in this research. The students’ English scores on their study report (KHS) and SILL were used as the instrument. The samples of this research were fifty third year students majoring in English at IAIN Samarinda. Moreover, three students were chosen to participate in the semi structured interview. The data of the research were analyzed using descriptive and Pearson Product Moment correlation. The result showed that the most preferred strategy used by the students was social strategy There was a significant correlation between students’ English language learning strategies and English academic achievement (r=.436, p=.001<.05).

ESP teaching is a market-driven, communicative English teaching model which is based on the overall principle of significantly improving learners' professional English social skills, learnercentered, and meets the needs of society and individuals. In this study, researcher’s attempt is to integrate ESP reading model into the design and manufacturing English teaching. The study aims to explores the effect of ESP reading in mechanical design and manufacturing English teaching from the following three points, preclass reading task detection, while-reading teaching and post-reading teaching. And the author finds that ESP reading model not only make students have a strong interest in English learning and reading, improve their English reading ability and application ability of professional knowledge, but also enhance their innovative thinking ability.

Cognitive load is commonly defined as the amount of mental effort that performing a specific task imposes on a learner’s cognitive system. For EFL learners, with their limited English proficiency and cultural immersion, always find it overwhelming to comprehend a content lesson delivered in English. Cognitive load theory draws on an understanding of human cognitive architecture to provide explanations for why certain designs of multimedia educational materials are effective and why some are not. This study evaluated the split-attention and redundancy principles in an Intensive Reading lesson for non-English majored students and their potential to decrease mental effort and increase learning.

Nowadays teenagers use Bahasa Indonesia slang adopted by English words, phrase, and terms. This looks at the society, especially teenagers and the transition from adolescence to adulthood (12 to 23 years). This phenomenon is actually very unique which they use some English words or phrases as their Alay slang language to communicate. It is such a case that should be researched by researcher and many people caring about Bahasa Indonesia and the way English insert in that slang. The cause and the use of it is the main case of that is actually the focus of research.This study uses a qualitative approach design; ethnography research. A qualitative approach design using data derivedfrom documents. While the form of data collecting technique is content analysis of secondary text or visual material where the researcher analyzes the content of the documents grabbed, describe, interprete, determine the settings, last is report reflexively. The data is taken from documents; screenshot of conversations of subjects in Blackberry Messenger with several themes where the English-language Alay language is usually used ie the problem of romance and vacation.

The present study investigates how academic coursework and formal learning of instructional technology and materials design help pre-service English language teachers' development of critical knowledge of CALL materials. The participants are 111 pre-service English language teachers enrolled in a TEFL programme at a Turkish University. Throughout a 14-week semester, these participants learn to design a variety of CALL materials including online teaching tools and a set of Web 2.0 tools. The article explores the skills and knowledge of pre-service teachers on the design and development of audio-visual web-based activities, through qualitative content analysis of their written reflections. The analyses of reflections on practice have revealed that these teachers demonstrate strong and critical understanding of CALL in enriching authenticity, enhancing motivation, facilitating language learning, and providing multimodal resources. They also display great awareness of instructional knowledge, in particular, in the design and interface of technology to facilitate learning.

In order to simulate students’ enthusiasm in English listening and to improve teachers’ teaching efficiency, application of computer multimedia technology in English listening teaching has been wildly used. The purpose of this paper is to study the practical application of multimedia technology in English listening teaching. This study also also aims to improve the cognition of multimedia-assisted technology by exploring actual teaching cases. It will eliminate existing misunderstanding of assisting English listening teaching and improve the teach-ing effect of English listening. In this study we first elaborated the theoretical ba-sis of computer-assisted English listening teaching, and then clarified the teaching requirements of multimedia-assisted English listening teaching through question-naires. Finally, the effect of computer-assisted multimedia was evaluated through teaching comparative experiments. This study has important guiding significance in promoting diversified development of college English listening teaching and in developing students’ English listening ability and improving teachers’ teaching skills.

Basic English Writing (BEW) courses have been part of English learning curricula in many universities. Some research has been conducted to investigate various class designs for English language courses. However, class designs for English writing are not yet abundantly developed to provide more experimental results. The purpose of this study was to experiment with a class design in accordance with a student-orient textbook. It explored the learning effect of beginning writers who participated in an experiment of the student-oriented class design and textbook. Participants included native Chinese seniors, taking Basic English Writing (BEW) classes. They were intermediate level students in terms of English proficiency. The study was conducted with two groups and it lasted 18 weeks. The two groups were evaluated by a final writing test. The final writing test was analyzed with four variables included in text analysis and an untried variable included in grammar. The results indicated that the class design helped the participants learn basic writing skills and apply them more frequently in their compositions at the end of the experiment. This design and textbook may be an easier and more systematic teaching strategy for BEW teachers.

Flipped classroom has become a topic of interest in education. The question of whether high school English writing instruction can be integrated with flipped classroom is of utmost concern. In consideration of the characteristics of both elements based on the constructivist theory, and the integration of language knowledge, background knowledge, as well as discourse knowledge into English writing instruction, this study designs a high school English writing instruction model based on flipped classroom. Both the flipped classroom and English writing instruction focus on constructing meaning in learning, thus providing a flipped classroom model for English writing instruction in high schools.

Abstract The purpose of this research was to design ICT competences-integrated Language Awareness (English Phonetics and Phonology, English Morphology and Syntax, and English Socio-pragmatic) assessment instruments for English Language Education Study Program (ELESP). The Design and Development Research (DDR) acommodatesthis research to produce the models and principles guided by the design, development, and evaluation processes. The data of this research are final test of assessment instruments from five Universities existing assessment instruments of English Language Education Study Program, UNESCO document, European Profiling Grid (EPG) document, and Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The reseacher conducts three phases: need analysis, where the writeranalyses the existing assessment instruments of five universities and compare them to ICT competences of EPG, information gathering, and prototypical design. The findings shows the ICT competences of five universities on Technology Literacy of UNESCO. The research results are the procedures to design Table of Specification (ToS), the design ICT competences-integrated in Table of Specification, and design ICT competences-integrated in test and non-test of Language Awareness assessment instruments. This study expects to solve the network delay in college English online teaching, prevent disrupting the normal teaching order of college English classroom caused by network problems, increase college students’ interest in learning English, and improve the time spent by college students in English learning. First, the study investigates and analyzes the current needs and situation of college English online learning and puts forward the improvement standards for college English online classroom. Second, the study applies edge computing (EC) technology to improve online teaching system and designs an online learning system for college specific English based on EC. Finally, the improvement effect is tested, and it is concluded that the effect of using EC to improve the online classroom system for college English is better than that of the unmodified online teaching system. The results reveal that the online classroom system for college English based on EC designed can effectively reduce the network delay of the traditional teaching system, ensure a high reliability, and increase the time for students to learn English, so it is helpful to improve the teaching quality. The results provide a new direction for applying emerging computer technology in online teaching in colleges and universities, a guarantee for improving college students’ English level, and set an example for the relevant research in the future.

This research aimed to design the English syllabus for first semester students of the Islamic Education Study Program at IAIN Palopo. Based on the observation in June 2019, the researcher found several problems from the previous syllabus, such as the syllabus used general English, not specific English; the syllabus served a little portion of the discussion on topics of students’ needs and interests of Islamic Education. The research design used in this research was Research and Development (R&D) utilized the 4D model. It consists of defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. The procedures included analyzing English materials needed by the students of the Islamic Education study program then design the syllabus. The designed English syllabus for students of the Islamic Education study program at IAIN Palopo includes learning goals, learning material, learning methodology, learning indicators, and learning media. The product was tried out to the second semester of students of the Islamic Education study program at IAIN Palopo. The instruments were used in this research were questionnaires for need analysis and observation sheets for three expert validators and students’ perception. In this research, three experts were involved in order to validate the product. There were five systematic aspects that they validate of the product: Format Syllabus, Syllabus Content, Language and Writing, and Time allocation. This research aimed to find out English teaching materials need of Fine Art study program students in learning English. The quantitative method was conducted in this research. In collecting the data, the researchers applied questionnaires for the students as the instrument of the research. There were 16 students of Fine Arts study program in the 2021-2022 academic year as the participants in this research. The results of this research revealed that in learning English students of Fine Arts study program need all language skills and the mostly needed language skill is speaking. They need speaking because will support their future career as artisan art working in English. Regarding language components, mainly required by the students is vocabulary. In addition, teaching materials related to fine arts are needed by the students, as well the teaching materials are taken from internet. Furthermore, pertaining to the objective of learning English that is to be able to communicate in English, the students need discussion before beginning to learn English course. This method can support students’ need in speaking skill. These students’ needs can be used as the basis to design English teaching materials..

Objectives The purpose of this study is to present a teaching plan using a metaverse that allows elementary school learners to immerse themselves in learning with interest and interest as a task-oriented activity that can provide learners with opportunities to directly use English. Accordingly, a plan for elementary English speaking class was presented using Gather.town, one of the metaverse platforms. Methods For this purpose, this study first investigated current task-based instruction models and reformulated a task performance model for elementary English classes. For the task-based class design, the task-based instruction model of Willis (1996) and Skehan (1996) was modified to fit the purpose of this study, and according to the class development, it consisted of the pre-task stage (task introduction), task performance stage (speaking practice), and post-task stage (presentation). As a task-based activity for each stage, a lesson design method using Gather.town was introduced. Results The functions of Gather.town that can be utilized in each stage were introduced, and the class development and activity methods using the functions were presented. The metaverse-using class design model presented in this study can be used in whole or in part as a class operation plan according to the judgment of the teacher, considering elementary school students' cognitive development ability, task performance, proficiency, and English level. Conclusions Through realistic speaking tasks using metaverse, learners' immersion in the task situation can be increased, and it is expected to bring positive effects in terms of learners' interest in class and usefulness in learning to speak. In addition, the educational use of metaverse is expected to provide an opportunity to increase interest in English and improve the listening and speaking skills of English, which is a target language, by practicing English in an elementary English class environment where there are few opportunities to use English directly.

The success of the teaching and learning of foreign language skills including English is determined by several factors such as students, teachers, teaching methods, techniques, and instructional Multimedia. English teaching Multimedia is very important for the teacher to help students acquire a new concept of the skills and language competencies. This study made use of the qualitative method. The researcher used Educational Research and Development cycle from Borg and Gall (2007) which is adjusted into five steps, namely (1) research and information gathering, (2) planning, (3) preliminary product development, (4) preliminary field testing, and (5) primary product revision. There are still many fascinating discussions that might be interesting to find out the real situation in the implementation of Multimedia in English language teaching, especially in storytelling. This study which was conducted by the students of SMK Mitra Karya Mandiri Ketanggungan-Brebes is intended to figure out how the use of Multimedia in English language teaching to the first levels. The study employed a case study research design. The researcher collected the literature review, distributed questionnaires to the students, and interviewed one of the English teachers. After collecting the literature review, the researcher first distributed the questionnaires to the students. The respondents to the questionnaires were 30 students. The result of the research shows that digital storytelling can be built up to teach narrative. The purpose of the medium must be communicative and attractive to the students. Equally, for the students, they are interested in using digital storytelling to learn about narrative. Hence, digital storytelling is designed to help students in all competencies, such as reading, speaking, listening, writing, and the vocabulary teaching-learning process.

The English online learning instructional model became contingent upon organised and guided learning practices by competent English lecturers as instructors in the online situation. There are a few concepts applied to the English instructional online pedagogy for Higher Education and Universities. The purposes of the examinations are to classify the relevance of online instructional learning to conform to English learning and present current or unexpected instructional design into the English online environment. The study employed a convergent parallel design method. This method of choice had depth-analysing and performing parallel analyses, which are considered alternative evidence for discussing the components of the online instructional model. The examination consisted of 52 English lecturers from various Higher Education and Universities. The survey questionnaires were addressed to participants, and interview strategies were identified to collect a distinctive angle and dept-involvement on the English online instructional. Findings of the study have revealed that English lecturers considered learner-centered intended course as very important for their teaching concept while emphasising real-world performance as important for the online environment material. Collaborative approach and concentrate on reliably and validly assessed outcomes become the second phase importance in the online instructional model. Interview protocols thematic analysis exposed that English lecturers should support and organise their particular English online instructional online environment. The general characterised adapted to engage in English online instructional online-based. The condition is because of English lecturers empathising with the appropriate material, approach to the learners’ flexibility, and individual accomplishment in every topic.

The English Proficiency Test (EPrT) is a prediction test for English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), which is a prerequisite for graduation at XYZ University. The Language Center provides a course for EPrT preparation. The course posttest data shows that only 74% of students met the graduation prerequisites. This study aims to develop an English course design based on the students’ English skill cluster. This study uses the K-Means clustering approach to classify the students based on English skills. The respondents are 397 students who joined the EPrT preparation course in October and November 2018. The 397 students are distributed into 3 clusters, which are 174 students in cluster 1, 116 students in cluster 2, and 107 students in cluster 3. Cluster 1 consists of students with the score below average. Cluster 2 consists of students with the total score above average, but the components score is below average. Cluster 3 consists of students with pre-test total score below average, but the post-test score are above average. Therefore, the EPrT preparation course is suggested to have different levels, instead of one level as now. The course materials are designed to be suitable for students’ initial English skills at each level.

Summative assessment of interpretation is widely conducted in interpreting courses/programs to inform high-stakes decision making, such as the selection, certification, and conferral of academic degrees. Yet there has been very limited empirical research to investigate the score dependability of summative interpretation assessment. The present study therefore sets out to explore the optimal measurement design(s) for a locally created summative assessment of English/Chinese consecutive interpretation, based on multiple fully crossed generalizability studies. Major findings include the following: (a) overall the raters behaved more consistently by using the information completeness (InfoCom) scale rather than the fluency of delivery (FluDel) or target language quality (TLQual) scales; (b) the raters displayed greater variability in evaluating the Chinese-to-English interpretation rather than the English-to-Chinese interpretation; (c) although adding tasks worked more effectively in raising score dependability than using additional raters for the InfoCom ratings in the English-to-Chinese interpretation, the pattern was reversed for the other observations; and (d) two potentially optimal designs were identified for the English-to-Chinese direction, and one design for the other direction. These results are discussed, highlighting the complex nature of relationships among the assessment criterion, the interpreting directionality, the raters’ dominant language and score dependability, together with the need to ensure score dependability for summative interpretation assessment.

Based on Mulyanah's research 2018, there were 70% of English teachers were found by non-linear based on their previous study and based on TOEFL scores the teacher's lack of competence of English skill and they need interesting teaching media to improve their skill by using English instructions book to maintain the initial motivation, maintain the curiosity and interest of the teachers to develop a desire to learn languages, especially in English easily and quickly. In this research, the descriptive quantitative approach is selected by the researcher with a quasi-experimental design and non-equivalent design control group using pre-test and post-test, experimental and control group to find out the results after treatment given. The sample are 20 English teachers of Primary school in Tangerang, Indonesia. The research is divided into several of processes, pretest, 6 times for the treatments and the last posttest. The results of the research are 1) Increased teacher motivation in learning English, 2) Increased confidence using English both inside and outside the classroom. 3) 0.6% increased teacher competence in their English skills.

In this study, which utilized survey as the research design, it was aimed to find out the teachers’ perceptions of the middle school English language curriculum which was developed in 2012 and revised in 2016. Target population of this study included all teachers working in Turkish public middle schools in Ankara, while the sample was composed of 349 teachers selected through clustered sampling method. A questionnaire developed by the researchers was used as data collection instrument. Findings revealed that many problems with respect to the components of the curriculum developed in 2012 have been solved, while only a few but most crucial problems still exist. It was concluded that this curriculum cannot develop students’ autonomy, communicative competence, and their writing, listening, and speaking skills. More research was suggested to be conducted to find out whether this failure resulted from the design itself or implementation process.

This study designs and implements a digital English instructional resource management recommendation system based on collaborative filtering technology based on CF research and the construction of digital English instructional resources. This study designs the system with B/S structure combined with hierarchical design architecture, plans the overall design goal, architecture design, compilation structure, and key technologies, and designs and implements the system’s core modules on the basis of fully analysing the functional and nonfunctional requirements of personalized educational resource recommendation system. Furthermore, the traditional CF has been improved to address scalability, data sparseness, and user cold start in the recommendation process. The evaluation results show that this algorithm has a recall rate of 96.37% and a system resource recommendation accuracy rate of 95.31%, both of which are higher than the traditional method’s 6.37%. This algorithm can overcome the drawbacks of traditional algorithms, improve recommendation accuracy, and efficiently provide high-quality English teaching resources. Educators and students will be more likely to find high-quality digital English instructional resources if they use the instructional resource system proposed in this study.

The study explores the effect of using new instructional design models in online English literature courses in higher education and explores the effect of their use on students’ performance. This is to assure sustainability in higher education. The study shows the effect of using ADDIE instructional design model along with universal design for learning on students’ performance in online English literature courses in higher education. The study also highlights the major challenges that university professors face when applying the two designs together in online learning. A quantitative approach is applied by distributing a five-part questionnaire to 47 English literature professors from different universities in Jordan who are asked to use both models when planning their online courses. In the last part of the questionnaire, these professors are asked to state the main challenges that they face and are exposed to when applying the two designs together in online learning process. The results of the study reveal that students’ performance increased. There are a few studies that have been conducted to explore new instructional design models to be used in planning online English literature courses in higher education and their effect on students’ performance to assure education sustainability.

This study aims to create a RPG game that can help learning English. The method used for this study is ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implement, Evaluate) method and the software required for this study are Unity and Visual Studio 2019. ADDIE method is a learning model that instructional designers and training developers have used to create methods of learning effectiveness learning, this learning model is an acronym for a five-step process which are: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and evaluation. And therefore the software used to develop the game are Unity. The result of this research is a RPG game that can be used for learning English. With this RPG game, it is hoped that the game can help with students who struggle learning English.

The paper focused on the research of talent cultivation for English major in the universities of China, especially in private universities. It is often criticized that the English major makes no difference from public English or English training. The main problems of English major at present in China Universities are in its personnel cultivating program, and course design. These problems are shown in the paper mainly by case studies, literature research from the authors’ teaching experience. To solve these problems, the traditional English major must make some tentative innovation and improvement. For the personnel cultivating, it must make a balance between specialists and generalists. For the major setup, it should make refinement in different fields and aspects to let the students make a choice according to their own interests and characteristics, so the paper proposed the mechanism of general enrollment and stratified cultivating. For the course design, it is necessary to make a change from “learning English” to “learning in English”. Learning English mainly lies with students. The learning process, especially the skill-based learning, mainly lies in the learners themselves, while the task of the teacher plays the role of mentor and supervisor. Learning in English is the main direction of English teachers’ efforts. It is the main mission of the teachers of English major to teach humanities courses in full English, cultivate students’ critical thinking in teaching, and let students actively participate in classroom interaction. With these changes, the English major can strive to achieve its own development by being unique and new.

About the post-video watch activities, they prefer to do a writing rather than a speaking activity. The development and implementation of language teaching programs can be approached in several different ways, each of which has different implications for curriculum design. Indonesian schools have started modernizing their curricula by adopting a backward design that places an emphasis on students' learning outcomes in order to replace the outdated forward paradigm. They must, however, overcome a difficulty in order to achieve a beneficial alignment. This problem spurred a case study examination of the primary curriculum's objectives, syllabus, methodology, and evaluation. The results of the research indicate that the curriculum was created forward, despite claims that it was designed backward, with learning outcomes acting as program goals. In truth, the one that follows it promotes the exchange of knowledge above the development of skills. Since they still relied on information transmission, the program's learning goals were not linked with the three important components of syllabus, methodology, and assessment. The university's innovation of technique including a transfer in emphasis from the lecturer to the students was nonetheless rigidly and mechanically interpreted, and the assessment of student learning was said to be criterion-referenced without more explanation for each syllabus.

There has been exciting and serious progress in the field of computers for teaching English. Identification of the most effective methods is essential to make teaching and learning more efficient. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of using multiple content forms in web-based instruction on students’ English vocabulary learning. The study was conducted at the Compulsory Preparatory Program of a state university located in the Black Sea region of Turkey with 106 students. The factorial research design was used to conduct the study. Thus, the effect of using multiple content forms in web-based instruction on students’ English vocabulary learning was analyzed.The vocabulary level of students was measured with a web-based multiple choice English vocabulary achievement test. The measure of internal consistency of the English vocabulary achievement test was 0.966. The findings of this study indicate that, in vocabulary teaching, providing definitions in an audio format in English is more effective in teaching English vocabulary than providing the same definitions in an audio format in English accompanied with pictures. Mobile devices which eliminate the time and distance limitations can be used in further studies with developmental applications to investigate the effects on students’ English vocabulary learning.

Анотація:

There has been limited research on nursing students’ (NSs) language problems conducted in non-English speaking countries, especially research focusing on college transfer students. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceived needs and challenges of English use by college transfer NSs in a non-English speaking environment. A descriptive study design was adopted. Forty-five college transfer NSs from a university in Hong Kong participated in the study. Sixteen interviews were conducted. A qualitative content analysis was performed. Two main categories were identified: (a) Perceptions about English use (three sub-categories: (i) significance of having a good command of English; (ii) challenges in use of English; and (iii) low motivation and need to learn English), and (b) using English in nursing contexts (two sub-categories: (i) challenges in the use of English in nursing and (ii) improving English proficiency as a second priority in nursing students). In conclusion, college transfer NSs face challenges in general and discipline-specific English use, but their motivation to improve their English proficiency was not strong. Language centers should re-design the language courses to meet NSs’ communication needs, while nursing educators should provide opportunities for students to strengthen their English use in research and clinical situations.
