Повний текст джерелаPublic polling and anecdotal evidence suggests that the general public greatly values music education. I argue that this is not because of content, discipline-specific skills like reading music notation or playing the trumpet, but because of the generalizable habits of mind, or broad thinking dispositions, that teachers teach in ensembles. Through analysis of systematic observation and interview data from multiple rehearsals of six band, choir and orchestra ensembles, eight Ensemble Habits of Mind emerged: Evaluate, Express, Imagine, Listen, Notice, Participate in Community, Persist, and Set Goals & Be Prepared. Using methodology similar to that of parallel work identifying Studio Habits of Mind in visual arts education (Hetland et al., 2013), this study shows many similarities between habits of mind in the two disciplines. However, two habits of mind that were specifically sought out in observations because they are frequently reported in advocacy arguments, Use Creativity and Recognize More than One Correct Answer, were not observed even under broad inclusion criteria. Suggestions are given for the practical application of these findings and discussion of how this framework can simultaneously support the good thinking happening in traditional large ensembles while bolstering rationale that informal music learning and other means of student-centered music making should be included in music programs in order to advance students’ creative thinking and tolerance for ambiguity

Habits är ett mindre företag i Göteborg och de vill hjälpa företag, organisation och privatpersoner att minska sin miljöpåverkan på ett lätt och roligt sätt. De har utvecklat ett webbaserat verktyg för detta som kommer lanseras hösten 2020 och webbplatsen som skapas kommer vara deras ”ansikte utåt” för det verktyg som är riktat till privatpersoner. I rapporten gås det igenom vilka steg och verktyg som gjorts och använts för skapandet av denna webbplats. User stories har gjorts för att lära känna användaren och identifiera deras behov, skisser över webbplatsen har gjorts för att enkelt kunna illustrera hur webbplatsen skulle se ut och en sitemap har skapats för att veta vilka sidor projektet skall innehålla. Hur skapandet har gjorts från HTML till Twig och funktionalitet bakom saker som meny, frågor och svar-sektionen, stöd för flera språk mm. Tas upp. Utöver detta har också tester gjorts av både mig och min handledare på Habits. Olika verktyg för att säkerställa att laddningstiden håller sig inom en godkänd ram har gjorts och verktyg som WAVE Evaluation Tool har använts för att säkerställa webbplatsens tillgänglighet. I slutändan finns en färdig produkt som fyller Habits syfte och förhoppningsvis är representativ för deras tjänst och kan dra in användare till deras webbaserade verktyg.

Повний текст джерелаCurrent insights into the South African education crisis suggest that emphasis needs to be placed on developing teachers’ mathematical knowledge for teaching (MKfT) through ongoing professional development. Aiming to provide insight into teacher professional development, this research describes an initiative undertaken by a group of Mathematics teachers who formed a Community of Practice at their school. Through the implementation of Habits of Mind that promotes Relational Understanding, these teachers attempt to improve the teaching and learning of Mathematics at their school, and further their professional development. A qualitative phenomenological design of inquiry was conducted to describe the teachers’ experiences when implementing Habits of Mind in their teaching. Group interviews, individual interviews and documentary sources were used to gain a rich description of the lived experiences of these teachers during the research period. To analyse the data a combination of Giorgi’s phenomenological model and the interconnected model of professional growth was used. Results indicate three insights into teacher professional development: (1) Communities of Practice promote the sharing and development of MKfT though the mechanism of collaboration; (2) Teachers are challenged when implementing intervention strategies as firstly their learners are challenged in their literacy ability which limits their articulation in Mathematics lessons, and secondly they are faced with time constraints imposed by workload demands; (3) The attempt to implement intervention strategies within a Community of Practice, despite being challenging, encourages reflective practice which informs individuals’ professional practice and supports ongoing professional development.

Accreditors and administrators have begun to focus on general education with an eye to improvement. One of the most valued, but difficult to assess, learning outcomes in general education is critical thinking. Critical thinking is thought to play a role in student engagement and positive student learning outcomes. This study examined students' acquisition of critical thinking skills in a required general education great books course at a large, mid-Atlantic, Research I university with a high transfer-in population. Student interviews, class observations and document analysis were employed in the study. Specific attention was paid to dialogic learning, as Vygotsky's theory of social learning and the theory of student engagement underpinned the study. This study found that critical thinking learning goals were not communicated to the students explicitly through the syllabus. Only 20 percent of the students in the class reported acquiring critical thinking skills. All of those students were female transfer students. Many students described the class as outside their primary educational interests. Those who acquired critical thinking skills were more likely to be active participants in the class, value professor-student conferences and have a strong academic support network. Social interaction contributed to students' acquisition of critical thinking skills in this class. Future assessment of critical thinking will depend on a clearer definition of the concept. General education programs and courses that link social interaction and the acquisition of critical thinking skills are worthy of further study.

There are a number of factors that influence an individual's ability to design. Designers vary by characteristics of their designs. Some product designers may be very practical, while others attempt to induce surprise and delight in their target user. Even when selecting what design to move forward with, designers' personalities and their classification as either satisfiers or maximizers greatly impacts their final designs. We surveyed a number of students from MIT class 2.97, Designing for People, in order to gauge their design habits. The data we extracted provided us with information on their design experience and comfort, their attitudes towards surprising designs, and their characterization as satisfiers or maximizers. Due to the relatively small sample size, we did not find any overarching trends, but the results do establish some correlations between self-reported confidence in personal designs and their potential to surprise the user.

The paper identifies e-commerce as a phenomenon that is becoming stronger and that is going to rival the traditional e-commerce. The goal of this paper is to identify consumer’s e-commerce preferences.To solve our issue we will use different methods. Based on our studies, together with our selected methods, we found that consumers prefer sitting at a personal computer with the consumption of a commodity. It is linked to the consumer wants to sit in their homes where they quietly can make their purchase. Another significant factor is that the screen size is too small on the smartphone. Multi-sensory interaction with material is the source of embodied design knowledge in the process of creative design. Through bodily engagement with material in the process of making, the integration of thinking and doing - or mind and hand - results in generating iterative design solutions. While compute raided design (CAD) tools have brought various benefits to the field of design, such as speed and accuracy in modeling, their detachment from physical world eliminates the multi-sensory interaction between designer and material. I argue that in order to overcome the separation of design and making in the context of computer-aided design tools, we need to rethink the interfaces by which designers interact with the digital world. If we aim to bring back material interaction to the computer-aided design process, the material itself should become the interface between designer and computer. I propose Augmented Materials - defined as physical materials embedded with digital and computational capabilities- to fill the gap between physical and digital model making. By embedding functional components such as sensors, actuators and microcontrollers, directly within modules of physical interface, an integrated system emerges that can offer computational capabilities such as speed and precision of modeling, while allowing designers to engage in a hands-on multi-sensory interaction with material. I implement my thesis by introducing NURBSforms, a modular shape-changing interface that lets designers create NURBS-based curves and free-form surfaces in a physical form, just as easily as they do in CAD software. Each module of NURBSforms represents a base curve with variable curvature, with the amount of its curvature being controlled by the designer, and represented through real-time actuation of material. NURBSforms bridges between digital and physical model making by bringing digital capabilities such as such as real-time transformation, programmability, repeatability and reversibility to the physical modality. I implemented two modalities of interaction with NURBSforms, one using direct manipulation, and the other using gestural control. I conclude this work by evaluating NURBSforms interface based on two sets of user studies, and propose potential future developments of the project. My thesis contributes to the fields of Design and Human Computer Interaction by introducing Augmented Materials as a framework for creating computer-aided design interfaces that integrate physical and digital modalities. The NURBSforms interface can be further developed to be used as a pervasive design interface as well as a research and education tool. The software, hardware and fabrication techniques developed during implementation of NURBSforms can be applied to the research projects in the fields of architecture, product design, and HCI.

Повний текст джерелаThe substitution of electrical energy for gasoline as a transportation fuel is an initiative both with a long history, and one made both pressing and important in today's policy discussion by renewed interest in plug-in vehicles. The research presented in this dissertation attempts to inform the policy discussion for governments, for electric utilities, for the makers of electric cars, and for the industries developing and planning charging infrastructure. To that end, the impacts of variations to several possible system design parameters, on several metrics of evaluation, are assessed. The analysis is based on a dataset of vehicle trips collected by Georgia Institute of Technology, tracking almost 500 vehicles that commute to, from or within the Atlanta city center, comprising Atlanta `commuter-shed'. By assuming that this dataset of trips defines the desired travel behavior of urban and suburban American populations, the effects of travel electrification in personal vehicles can be assessed.
Several significant and novel findings have emerged from this research. These include the conclusion that at-work charging is not necessarily the logical next step beyond home-charging, as it will in general add little to the substitutability of electric vehicles. In contrast, high power en-route charging, combined with modest power home charging is shown to be surprisingly effective, potentially requiring of EV drivers a total time spent at en-route recharging stations similar to that for liquid fueled cars. From the vehicle marketing perspective, a quantification of the hybrid household effect, wherein multi-vehicle households own one EV, showed that about a quarter of all households could adopt a vehicle with 80 miles of range with no changes to travel patterns. Of interest to grid management, this research showed an apparent maximum fleet-wide load from unregulated charging of about 1 kW per vehicle, regardless of EVSE power or EV battery size. This contrasts with a potential late night load spike an order of magnitude higher under certain time-of-use charging algorithm implementations. Finally, an EVSE and EV power capacity of 10-12 kW was shown to be a likely optimum if grid services from modulated charging are being considered.

Kontanter fortsätter dock att vara en viktig del avbetalningsekosystemet, men det finns begränsade studier och data om preferensenför att hålla kontanter. Tidigare studier har visat att användningen av kontanterminskat i dagligvaru- och sällanköpshandeln och att det finns beteendeskillnadermellan kulturer och sociodemografiska grupper med avseende på egenskaper ochpreferenser för betalningsmetoder. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka deinformativa attribut som driver preferensen för att hålla pengar genom att studeratvå extrema fall, Sverige som är en pionjär gällande det kontantlösa samhället ochTyskland som är ett av de mest konservativa kontantanvändande länderna ivästvärlden. Kvantitativa data härleddes från standardiserade frågeformulärutfärdade i de båda länderna av Loomis AB; data beskrevs och analyserades medtillämpliga statistiska förfaranden, mer specifikt en multivariantanalys som gjordespå ett visst segment av de insamlade uppgifterna, där de svarande blev ombedda attbedöma kontantanvändningen genom associerade uttalanden baserat på derasöverensstämmelse med dem. Dessa segment undersöktes sedan genom enhuvudkomponentanalys för att bestämma de underliggande dimensionerna gällandepreferenser för kontanter. Våra resultat tyder på att tyskar tar ut pengar merfrekvent, från ett bredare spektrum av valörer och bär i större utsträckning merkontanter än svenskar. Svenskar har en begränsad uttagsfrekvens, främst av småvalörer samt att de föredrar att bära kontanter i en liten utsträckning. Fortsatt visarResultaten att det fanns skillnader i perception och preferenser för kontanter mellansociodemografiska grupper, exempelvis är äldre åldersgrupper vana vidkontantanvändning och att de yngre åldersgrupperna använder kontanter på grundav "status quo bias". De viktigaste slutsatserna är att de informativa attribut somsäkerhet, anonymitet, användarvänlighet och betalningsinfrastruktur är de viktigastedrivkrafterna gällande preferensen att hålla kontanter.

Повний текст джерелаFysisk aktivitet och dess betydelse för hälsan har länge fått stor uppmärksamhet. På senare tid har även stillasittande och dess hälsokonsekvenser blivit upplyft. Stillasittande har på senare tid ökat bland människor över hela världen, som en konsekvens av ändrat beteende på grund av ökande tillgång till digitala enheter och nya transportmedel. Stillasittande beteende har likaså letat sig ner i åldrarna och blivit ett växande problem även hos barn. I Sverige rör sig barn allt mindre och antalet aktiva barn inom föreningsidrotten minskar. Denna studie utfördes på Telia Company i samarbete med ett team som heter xLABS. Målet med studien var att explorera innovationsmöjligheter utifrån en undersökning av beteendeförändringstekniker för att minska stillasittande beteende bland barn. Målgruppen var familjer med barn i åldrarna 6-11 år i Sverige. Utifrån en litteraturstudie, en enkätundersökning med föräldrar och intervjuer med föräldrar till barn i det bestämda åldersspannet har två koncept, Active och Parental Network, tagits fram som på olika sätt har potential att minska stillasittande beteende bland barn. Active riktar sig till hela familjen med ett fokus på att aktivera barnen fysiskt under dagen, medan Parental Network riktar sig till föräldrar och har ett fokus på regler och aktiviteter. De två koncepten togs fram utifrån funna kundkrav och har relaterats till litteratur inom vanor och tekniker för beteendeförändring. Utöver koncepten har slutsatser dragits gällande vad som krävs för att motivera och engagera barn, vad föräldrar använder för tekniker och vilka beteendeförändringstekniker som skulle kunna vara fördelaktigt att inkludera i en tjänst för att minska stillasittande. För att motivera och engagera barnen bör appen möjliggöra gemensamma mål för familjen så att föräldrar kan leda genom exempel, belöning vid uppnådda mål och en spelfunktion för att det ska bli en roligare upplevelse.

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis is about the use of E-books in higher education, specifically at Malmö University. The purpose of this study is to investigate attitudes students have towards the use of E-books for scholarly purposes in higher education versus their printed counterparts. This study looks at student preferences in the use of E-books compared to printed books, along with the effects these media have on students reading habits. By discovering in which situations E-books or printed books are most beneficial, students can make informed decisions about which medium will benefit them the most. An online survey and recorded interviews were used as methods for collecting data, whichwas then compared to previously published studies related to this subject. Students were found to prefer the printed book for studying purposes, and it still remains as the main source for reading and analyzing longer passages of text. E-books, on the other hand, were found to be most advantageous when preparing research reports. This means that both media still have their place inhigher education, which is likely to continue in the foreseeable future.

Повний текст джерелаPasswords are an important part of information security and works as a primary authentication method to protect user accounts. The purpose of this study is to investigate how an organisation’s employees follow the password policy and investigate if the password management is executed in an acceptable fashion from a security perspective and according to ISO standards. The method consisted of a survey, interviews of which the results has been compared to ISO standards guidelines and the organisation’s password policy, a risk analysis and a development of a tool to memorize passwords. The result showed insufficiency in the password management of the employees. Thru the analysis several actions have been found to constitute, restore and improve the password management and also preventing actions to keep the password management that is already sufficient. The conclusions are that there is a need for improvement of the password management and from these needs proposals for actions have been extracted.

s description of the paradox of the human condition. I claim that in order to understand how a Bergsonian philosophy of life through Bergson&rsquo
s conception of time would arise we need to understand the paradox of the human condition. The reason for this is that there are a lot of dualities in Bergson&rsquo
s philosophy all of which, I claim, are based on this fundamental duality concerning the human condition. I believe that when this paradox and its possible resolution are restated in Bergsonian notions, a Bergsonian philosophy of life that consists of a life sub specie durationis, that is a life under the aspect of duration, would arise. Hadot considered the paradox within the context of phenomenology alone. This made me proceed by searching for other approaches to the paradox within Bergson&rsquo
s philosophy. I realized that the attempts in finding out possible solutions to this problem cannot be found in the context of phenomenology alone and that the vitalist and the existentialist aspects have to be considered in order to remain faithful to Bergson&rsquo
s philosophy as well as in order to construct a Bergsonian philosophy of life. The phenomenological aspect of the paradox arises around Bergson&rsquo
s notion of displacement of attention and when the notion of duré

elle is considered with consciousness in the light of the notion of intensity. The vitalist aspect enters into our discussion when we analyze Bergson&rsquo

lan vital around the consideration of true evolution. I believe that the existentialist aspect of the paradox of the human condition comes from Bergson&rsquo
s notion of freedom around the discussion of the superficial and the fundamental self. It emerges if the individual asks himself how to deal with this paradox that in turn defines his struggle to transform the tension the paradox involves and that tells him to bring his own attitude towards it.

Повний текст джерелаSocial media is widely used every day but the question is what strategies can be found behind Facebook and Instagram. Through a qualitative method research of underlying strategies on how individuals act on their social media have been made. The population is women age 18-35 and the purpose is to see how they structure their identity and personal brand on social media. The study was realized by interviews and a visual material shaped as images. The visual material is based on the Brand Mind Space model. The theory also relates to the models A Brand Personality and Communication Privacy Management (CPM).The result shows that Instagram is the channel used to the greatest extent. It also appears that trends in strategies for individuals in the population can be read out. It is important how private information is communicated, what is conveyed through the profile and what pictures that are published really represents.The study shows that the most important thing is to be honest and for the digital identity to reflect who the person is. It is also important to control the spread of information being shared and to not stand out or be perceived as annoying.

The objective of this research harnesses to the results obtained in the Master's Dissertation defended in September 2008 in Postgraduate Studies Program in Mathematics Education at PUC - SP. In this same essay, issues related to teaching and learning of linear algebra sought to answer and find new ways of targeting and perspectives of students in a graduate in Electrical Engineering, asking Why and How should it be taught the discipline of linear algebra on a course with this profile? Among the results, we identified that the interdisciplinarity inherent to the topics of Linear Algebra and specific content of engineering or applied constituted an essential factor for the recognition of mathematical disciplines as theoretical and conceptual basis. Interdisciplinarity reflected in specific mathematical objects of linear algebra and practical situations of engineering materials for the formation of conceptual and general engineer seeking the theoretical foundation and basic justification for the technological improvement of its area. Based on a scenario and results envisioned in the dissertation we propose to investigate the cognitive structures involved in the construction of mathematical object eigenvalue and eigenvector in the initial and final student education phases in Engineering courses, showing the cognitive schemes in their mathematical minds. For this, the following issues are highlighted: ( 1 ) What conceptions (action - process -object- schema ) are evidenced in students after studying the mathematical object eigenvalue and eigenvector in the initial and final phases of their academic training courses in Engineering? and ( 2 ) these same phases, which concept image and concept definition are highlighted in the study of eigenvalue and eigenvector mathematical object? Substantiated by the theoretical contributions of Dubinsky (1991), on the APOS Theory and Vinner (1991), about the concept image and concept definition, we consider the cognitive processes involved in the construction of mathematical object, identifying the nature of their cognitive entities portrayed in mathematical mind. The discussion focuses on mathematical mind both the mathematical structure that is designed and shared by the community as the design in which each mental biological framework handles such ideas. To do so, we consider the relationship between the ideas which constitute the APOS theory, concepts image and definition and some aspects of Cognitive Neuroscience. Characterized as multiple case studies, data collection covered the speech of students in engineering courses in various training contexts, established by the institutions. The analysis of the specific mathematical concept called genetic decomposition led to this concept, which was proposed by System Dynamic Discrete problem, described by the difference equation K K x A.x 1 = + , (K = 0,1,2 , ... ) . Based on the ideas of Stewart (2008) and Trigueros et al. (2012) it was possible to us to identify some characteristics of showing the different conceptions of the students. Moreover, we consider some ideas that characterize the concept image and concept definition according Vinner (1991) and Domingos (2003). As a result of our investigation, we identified that the students of the first case study, at different stages of training, present the design process and the concept image on an instrumental level mathematical object eigenvalue and eigenvector. Have students in the second case, particularly, all of the first phase, and two of the second, showed signs of action and concept image incipient level. As a student of the second phase, have also highlighted the design process and the concept image on an instrumental level as the subject of the first case study. Therefore, we find no significant evolution between the inherent APOS Theory concepts and the concepts image of the object of study. We show that all students presented their speeches in relations between the Linear Algebra course and other courses in the program, such as Numerical Calculation, Electrical Circuits , Computer Graphics and Control Systems, with lesser or greater degree of depth and knowledge. We realize that students attach importance to mathematical disciplines in its formations and seek for a new approach to teaching that address the relationships between them and the disciplines of Engineering
O objetivo desta pesquisa atrela-se aos resultados obtidos na Dissertação de Mestrado defendida em setembro de 2008 no Programa de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Educação Matemática da PUC-SP. Nesta mesma dissertação, questões relacionadas ao ensino e aprendizagem de Álgebra Linear buscaram responder e encontrar novas formas de direcionamento e perspectivas de ensino em uma graduação em Engenharia Elétrica, indagando Por que e Como deve ser lecionada a disciplina de Álgebra Linear em um curso com este perfil? Dentre os resultados obtidos, identificou-se que a interdisciplinaridade inerente aos tópicos de Álgebra Linear e conteúdos específicos ou aplicados da Engenharia constituiu-se de fatores imprescindíveis para ao reconhecimento das disciplinas matemáticas, como base teórica e conceitual. A interdisciplinaridade refletida em objetos matemáticos específicos da Álgebra Linear e situações práticas da Engenharia prima pela formação do engenheiro conceitual e generalista que busca na fundamentação teórica e básica a justificativa para o aprimoramento tecnológico de sua área. Com base no cenário e resultados vislumbrados na defesa da dissertação, propusemonos investigar as estruturas cognitivas envolvidas na construção do objeto matemático autovalor e autovetor nas fases inicial e final de formação do aluno dos cursos de Engenharia, evidenciando os esquemas cognitivos e a mente matemática dos estudantes, sujeitos de nossa investigação. Para tanto, as seguintes questões são destacadas: (1) Quais concepções (ação-processo-objeto-esquema) são evidenciadas nos alunos, após o estudo do objeto matemático autovalor e autovetor nas fases inicial e final de sua formação acadêmica em cursos de Engenharia?; e (2) Nessas mesmas fases, quais conceitos imagem e definição são evidenciados no estudo do objeto matemático autovalor e autovetor? Fundamentados pelos aportes teóricos de Dubinsky (1991), sobre a Teoria APOS, e Vinner (1991) nos conceitos imagem e definição, foram considerados os processos cognitivos envolvidos na construção do objeto matemático, identificando a natureza de suas entidades cognitivas retratadas na mente matemática. A discussão sobre mente matemática foca-se tanto na estrutura matemática que é concebida e compartilhada pela comunidade como no delineamento em que cada estrutura biológica mental trata essas mesmas ideias. Para tanto, considerou-se a relação entre as ideias que constituem a Teoria APOS, os conceitos imagem e definição e alguns aspectos da Neurociência Cognitiva. A pesquisa caracterizada como estudos de caso múltiplos, identificou os dados a partir do discurso dos estudantes dos cursos de Engenharia em contextos diversos de formação, estabelecidos pelas instituições de ensino. A análise do conceito matemático específico levou à chamada decomposição genética desse conceito, que foi proposto pelo problema de Sistema Dinâmico Discreto, descrito pela equação de diferença K K x A.x 1 = + (K=0,1,2,...). Com base nas ideias de Stewart (2008) e Trigueros et al. (2012), foi possível identificar algumas características que evidenciassem as diferentes concepções dos estudantes. Além disso, foram consideradas algumas ideias que caracterizam o conceito imagem e definição de acordo com Vinner (1991) e Domingos (2003). Como resultado desta investigação, identificou-se que os alunos do primeiro estudo de caso, em fases distintas de formação, apresentam a concepção processo e o conceito imagem em nível instrumental do objeto matemático autovalor e autovetor. Já os alunos do segundo de caso, particularmente, todos os da primeira fase, e dois da segunda apresentaram indícios da concepção ação e conceito imagem em nível incipiente. Apenas um aluno da segunda fase também evidenciou ter a concepção processo e o conceito imagem em nível instrumental, como os sujeitos do primeiro estudo de caso. Portanto, constatou-se que não houve evolução significativa entre as concepções inerentes à Teoria APOS e os conceitos imagem do objeto de estudo. Evidenciou-se que todos os alunos apresentaram em seus discursos relações existentes entre a disciplina Álgebra Linear e demais disciplinas do curso, como Cálculo Numérico, Circuitos Elétricos, Computação Gráfica e Sistemas de Controle, com menor ou maior grau de profundidade e conhecimento. Percebe-se que os alunos atribuem relevância às disciplinas matemáticas em suas formações e buscam por um novo enfoque de ensino que contemple as relações entre as mesmas e as disciplinas da Engenharia

Повний текст джерелаJust like adults, children travel regularly in their everyday life. A major part of children’s travels goes to school, but apart from that children also do leisure travels to club activities and leisure facilities. The everyday travel habits of children affect both their health and independence. For this reason, this thesis will embrace children’s mobility and sustainable everyday travels. The aim is to raise the different travel types of children as well as present a basis for continued work within the topic. The study contains of literature research and questionnaires. One of the surveys was made in collaboration with Järfälla municipality. The two questionnaires, one for the students and one for their parents, investigated the travels habits to school and leisure activities for children in Skälbyskolan. Another questionnaire was sent to municipalities in the network of ResSmart. This survey collected information about if and how the municipalities work with children’s school travels and leisure travels, including also the reason why in some cases nothing was done. The result of the surveys showed that walking and cycling are the most common ways of transport to school. Most of the travels was done alone or with other children. Considering the use of bicycle, the use is dependent on the time of the year, where a large proportion cycle in summer but few in winter. To leisure activities, a great majority of the travels are made by car. Because of this, the independence of children’s leisure travel is generally non-existing. The reason why parents drive their children to leisure activities mainly depends on the distance, but also the time of the day in relation to darkness and the general family life. When driving children to school, the main reasons are lack of time and continued travels by car. When comparing Skälbyskolan with Gustav Vasa skola in the downtown of Stockholm, the result showed that walking is to most popular way of travel for both schools. However, neither cycling nor driving was made regularly to Gustav Vasa skola, even if the reasons when actually driving was the same as in Skälbyskolan. Regarding the municipality planning and actions, it is more common that municipalities work with sustainable school travels than children’s leisure travels. Furthermore, the working methods differ, where only physical arrangements are made within leisure travel routes and the lack of mobility management is a fact. With basis in the literature and survey results, action proposals are presented for a developed work within the area. For school travels, the actions should focus on reaching the parents and affecting their choice of mode, as well as actions for easier and more comfortable cycling during winter season. Considering leisure travels is the proposal to copy actions from the work with school travels, where the work should start off with inventions and travel habits surveys in leisure clubs. Furthermore, mobility management actions should be introduced, but also complex and long-term actions including leisure buses for children as well as compact city planning. Finally, the study mean that further work and surveys are needed for continued and developed work with children’s mobility. The area of children’s leisure travels should be raised both in planning documents and information, but also is media and larger forums.

The purpose of this study is to use content analysis method to analyze the contents of textbooks in Taiwan, China and Singapore. The mainly focus is to explore the types and ratios of habits of mind of Algebra themes in the textbooks for the fifth and sixth grade students from these three countries. Further, after exploring the types and ratios, analyzing every different characteristic of Algebra themes is to provide application to pedagogics. The thesis discusses the findings: 1. Contents of algebra themes developing habits of mind is focus on two abilities of mathematic thinking and abstraction. The total ratio of the two habits of mind is 85%. 2. Taiwan’s course materials focus on observing development and trend of variables in questions and compare the pros and cons of different problem-solving strategies; China’s course materials focus on the general calculating, dexterity to questions and expansion of question situation so that students can solve different types questions efficiently; Singapore’s course materials focus obviously on realizing questions and cultivating students to enhance the ability of understanding the relation of variables. 3. The characteristics of Taiwan’s course materials: (1) Compare different problem-solving strategies for students to enhance realization to problem-solving rules; (2) Observe and summarize the relation of variables to cultivate inferential capacity. The characteristics of China’s course materials: (1) Practice constantly basic questions to improve calculation fluency. (2) Blend in life situation questions to discover mathematic in our life. The characteristics of Singapore’s course materials: (1) Associate calculating questions with algebra questions to supply any deficiency when students learn algebras. (2) Practice constantly basic variable relation to firm the ability of solving algebra questions.

This research aims at the habits of mind and reading motivation of gifted students in elementary school. The subjects were from 9 elementary schools in Taipei City and New Taipei City by purposive sampling.The materials include self-designed “Questionnaire for the Habits of Mind of elementary school student” and “The Elementary Reading Motivation Inventory”. We used questionnaire survey procedure and analyzed collected data through descriptive statistics, and t-test. Summaries of the study are as follows: 1.The habits of mind of the gifted students in elementary school in Taipei area are at the higher-medium level. 2.The motivation of the gifted students in elementary school in Taipei area are at higher level. Based on the findings above, this research offers suggestions for gifted teachers community as reference and future studies.
