Повний текст джерелаUsage of cellular networks for data services is growing rapidly worldwide as more consumers browse the Internet, check emails, and watch videos on smartphones and tablets. To ensure that sufficient capacity is available on cellular and wireless networks, current utilization of the radio spectrum, an encumbered and finite resource, needs to be evaluated. Spectrum is usually made available by governmental regulatory bodies through auctions. From a policy and regulatory perspective, auctions of spectrum try to ensure the efficient use of spectrum by allocating it to the entities that value it the most. Auctions also generate revenues for governments. Cellular operators worldwide have been asking for allocation of more spectrum for cellular networks to support the growing demand of mobile data services. Perception of radio spectrum scarcity has been linked, sometimes linearly, to the higher demand of mobile data services and the greater market penetration of mobile broadband devices. To validate the "spectrum scarcity" notion, various elements of the wireless ecosystem, including network infrastructure, spectral efficiency of mobile technologies, and data offloading via unlicensed spectrum need to be appraised; and their effects on "spectrum utilization" need to be understood. Research presented here takes a system dynamics approach to study dynamic behavior among these elements and their effects on usage of spectrum through computer-based simulation. System dynamics provides a powerful means to model a complex system comprised of dependent and independent variables. With the help of the Causal Loop Diagram, we explain the research framework and formulate the hypotheses. A stock-and-flow model-based simulation is employed for hypotheses testing to justify the need for more spectrum. Dynamic behavior among different variables of the wireless ecosystem is also analyzed through this simulation. The study conducted here also explains why system dynamics appears to be a comprehensive approach to address the wireless industry's spectrum scarcity and utilization problem. Simulation results show that mobile data demand can exceed the current capacity of cellular networks causing a spectrum deficit if apt planning of spectrum policies and appropriate infrastructure investment are delayed.

The knowledge was implemented in use with the ZigBee modules from the two manufacturers ITN and Chipcon along with ZigBee Software Stack. Measuring methods were developed and software in ZigBee software Stack was developed to use in the ZigBee modules for the measurements. Developing measurement methods and performing measurements was an iterative process for the different measurements. The aim was to characterize the ZigBee modules in the most important areas during the extent of this master thesis work.

Повний текст джерелаHfq is a pleiotropic bacterial protein that determines several phenotypic characteristics. Its main function is to facilitate responses to stresses that bacteria may encounter during environmental changes, mainly by using post-transcriptional genetic control. The protein, by its capacity to interact with RNA, in particular small non-coding RNA, enables a rapid regulation of gene expression. In addition, the protein also interacts with DNA and compacts it. From a structural point of view, the protein adopts an Sm-like fold, characterized by a toroidal oligomer formed by a continuous 30-stranded β-sheet. Besides its conserved N-terminal Sm domain, Hfq also possesses a C-terminal region (CTR) that can vary in size and sequence between bacteria. My PhD work focused on the analysis of this CTR region in Escherichia coli bacteria. Indeed, this region has the capacity to form an amyloid structure. This structural dynamic is related to the formation of self-assembled structures in vivo, in the proximity of the inner membrane and in the nucleoid.Using various physicochemical techniques (molecular microscopy, spectroscopy and infrared microscopy, circular dichroism and small angle X-ray scattering), my work consisted in characterizing the assembly of this region of Hfq, as well as the factors influencing its assembly (in particular, the presence of nucleic acids). A part of my work consisted in setting up an innovative correlative–imaging method to analyze the chemical and morphological signature of a single amyloid fibre. Finally, my work focused on the analysis of the effect of compounds that inhibit the aggregation of the amyloid structure, which could constitute a new way to develop a novel class of antibiotics

Повний текст джерелаThe strong coupling between electronic transport in a single-level quantum dot and a capacitively coupled nano-mechanical oscillator may lead to a transition towards a mechanically-bistable and blocked-current state. Its observation is at reach in carbonnanotube state-of-art experiments. Therefore, we investigate the mechanical response of the system, namely the displacement spectral function, the linear response to a driving, and the ring-down behavior, and the electric response, namely the electric current and current spectral function. We show that a close relation between electric and mechanical quantities exists. We find that, by increasing the lectromechanical coupling, the peak in both spectral functions broadens and shifts at low frequencies while the oscillator dephasing time shortens. These effects are maximum at the transition where nonlinearities dominate the dynamics, and are robust towards the effect of external uctuations and dissipation. These strong signatures open the way to detect the blockade transition in devices currently studied by several groups

Повний текст джерелаRandom vibrations are the most representative excitations that can be found in the real environment. They are often encountered in the automotive, aeronautical, space, railway and other operating environments. The special feature of the random vibrations is their important role in damage fatigue analysis. The spectral methods allow to estimate efficiently and economically the mean of the damage using the statistical properties of the random signals. A numerical study on an embedded electronic system with experimental tests was set up in this thesis to present a complete spectral analysis of random vibrations methodology. A finite element model was performed as well as submodelling technique in spectral analysis of random vibrations with associated equations was proposed in this work. A numerical application has shown the validity of the proposed technique by applying the fatigue damage study using the time-domain approach and the spectral approach. The numerical results of this application lead to the estimation of a crack initiation time very close to the failure time observed in the experimental tests. This technique shows the performance and efficiency of spectral methods in the estimation of random fatigue damage. The optimization of a system subjected to random excitations has been developed in this work. The objective of this study is to retrieve the optimal design of the system subjected to random vibrations with limitations on the resulting damage. This damage estimated by Dirlik and Single Moment spectral methods must not exceed defined target damage in order to insure the reliability of the studied system

Повний текст джерелаECLAIRs, the hard X-ray imager of the Chinese-French SVOM mission, is dedicated to the detection and localization in near real-time of cosmic transient sources in the energy range from 4 to 150 keV. This instrument is a wide field camera, equipped with a detection plane paved with 6400 CdTe Schottky detectors, which allows to create hard X-ray images of the sky thanks to a localization system called "coded mask". The work presented in this manuscript details the design, the realization and the measurement of the performances of hybrid modules of 32 detectors read by an ASIC (called XRDPIX modules), which constitute the basic bricks of the detection plan, and which make it possible to reach unequalled performances for this type of instrument with a threshold in energy equal to 4 keV. After having posed the problem of detection of transient cosmic sources in X-rays, based on the astrophysical context of the SVOM mission, and then detailed its main instrument, I present, in this thesis, my work on the realization of large pixelated detection plans for gamma-ray astronomy, with in particular my contribution to the study and the realization of the XRDPIX module. The development of the XRDPIX modules, calls for both a low noise design and the use of innovative technologies. The CdTe detectors are biased down to -450V and regulated at low temperature (nominally 20°C) in order to minimize the leakage current and to limit the polarization effects. The low energy threshold required for the space mission is reached thanks to a thorough characterization of the elements constituting the 200 flight XRDPIX, which form the ECLAIRs camera. I present in detail the physical and technological characteristics of these modules, the various stages of their development, justifying the solutions and technical compromises that have marked their manufacture. Then, based on an abundant statistical sample, obtained during the numerous tests and qualifications carried out on several hundreds of modules and sub-modules, I present the results of measurements which demonstrate the excellent performances of the XRDPIX module, in terms of spectral resolution, low energy threshold, gain and counting. Additional studies are also shown, in order to complete the validation of the XRDPIX by analyzing the influence of various physical parameters on the performances, such as temperature. In conclusion, thanks to these abundant data analyses, and to models of the total equivalent noise, I propose optimal settings for two key configuration parameters: the bias value for the high voltage and the peaking time, which allow to obtain the 4 keV energy threshold required by the SVOM mission, with a good uniformity on the whole detection plane. Finally, I present this feedback, coupled with the study of the key parameters that determine the sensitivity of a wide field imager in the hard X-ray domain (detection area, energy range, field of view, ...), which leads me to propose avenues for the realization of ambitious instruments with significant gains in sensitivity in the future
