Дипломна робота складається зі вступу, 3 розділів, висновків та рекомендацій, додатків. Робота виконана в обсязі 78 сторінок, містить 7 рисунків, 32 таблиці та 5 додатки. Мета роботи полягає у економічному обґрунтуванні напрямів організації ефективної логістичної діяльності ТОВ «Паралель – М, ЛТД». Для аналітичного дослідження та розробки пропозицій в роботі використані логічний метод, графічний метод, методи економіко-математичного моделювання, метод логічного узагальнення та порівняльний. В роботі запропонована оптимізація адміністративних витрат і цінових умов на закупку палива, що дозволить отримати щорічну економію логістичних витрат в сумі 567535 гривень, що становить 12,2 % від чистого доходу компанії. Аналітичні дослідження дозволили розробити рекомендації щодо доцільності використання запропонованих заходів на підприємстві ТОВ «Паралель – М, ЛТД» . Об’єкт дослідження – логістична діяльність підприємства. Предмет дослідження – сукупність теоретичних, методичних і практичних підходів до організації ефективної логістичної діяльності ТОВ «Паралель – М, ЛТД».
Thesis consists of introduction, 3 chapters, conclusions and recommendations, applications. The work is done in volume of 78 pages, contains 7 figures, 32 tables and 4 applications. The purpose of the work is to economically substantiate the directions of organization of effective logistic activity of LLC Parallel - M, LTD. For analytical research and development of proposals in the work logical method, graphical method, methods of economic-mathematical modeling, method of logical generalization and comparative method are used. The paper proposes optimization of administrative costs and price conditions for fuel purchases, which will allow to obtain annual savings in logistics costs in the amount of 567535 hryvnias, which is 12.2% of net income of the company. Analytical studies allowed to elaborate recommendations on the feasibility of using the proposed measures at the enterprise Paralel-M, LTD. The object of the research is the logistic activity of the enterprise. Subject of research - a set of theoretical, methodological and practical approaches to the organization of efficient logistics activities of LLC "Parallel - M, LTD".

Sandvik Rock Tools is operating in a highly competitive market. This requires them to constantly improve the efficiency of their organization, in order for them to maintain their position as market leaders, both in a short-term and a long-term perspective. Sandvik Rock Tools is currently working on developing and further improving their supply chain. The supply chain is a key organizational function and improvements of the supply chain aim to yield benefits like lowered total costs and better utilized inventory levels. The purpose of our work has been to develop the supply chain between Sandvik’s in-market warehouse and their customer site at Dannemora. The main focus of this thesis has been to enable automatic data collection and to lower the stock levels at the customer site in Dannemora. This would be accomplished by improving the information flow between the two entities in the observed supply chain and by enabling real-time inventory information, easily accessible to the warehouse manager. A barcode system was implemented in the warehouse at the Dannemora customer site and was integrated with warehouse management software that was developed by the authors. The implemented barcode system and the warehouse management software were used at the Dannemora customer site for a period of two months. The effects of the implemented barcode system working in combination with the warehouse management software were observed in several operational areas after implementation, and the results were positive and beneficial. Firstly, the barcode system and warehouse management software simplified the warehouse manager’s decision process, by providing easy access to necessary warehouse management information, like realtime inventory information. Secondly, it made the day-to-day work routine of the warehouse manager easier, this being the case because the barcode system that had been implemented had digitalized and automated many tasks that had previously been performed manually by warehouse manager. An excellent example would be the simplified process for order placement and stocktaking. Thirdly, it improved the information flow between the Dannemora customer site and Sandvik’s in-market warehouse in Sandviken, thereby improving the overall effectiveness of the entire supply chain, through shared information. The barcode implementation successfully lowered inventory levels by six percent on average.

Дисертаційна робота присвячена розробці теоретичних та практичних положень управління логістичним потоком на газотранспортних підприємствах. На основі проведеного дослідження розроблено модель логістичної стратегії діяльності газотранспортного підприємства, що забезпечує контроль за використанням газу на етапах постачання, споживання та зберігання в підземних газосховищах при мінімальних витратах. Проведено аналіз логістичних функцій в газотранспортній галузі та розроблено принципи функціонування логістичних систем для розробки ефективної логістичної стратегії газотранспортного підприємства. Розглянуто оптимізаційні моделі управління запасами, на основі яких визначено напрямки та критерії ефективного функціонування логістичної системи. Розроблено моделі прогнозування з врахуванням сезонного характеру функціонування підприємства, що дозволило спрогнозувати величини відбирання обсягів газу з підземних сховищ газу. Запропоновано алгоритм вибору логістичної стратегії газотранспортного підприємства, що передбачає визначення основних взаємозалежностей між результатами управління його логістичними потоками і витратами на їх досягнення.
Диссертационная работа посвящена разработке теоретических и практических положений управления логистическим потоком на газотранспортных предприятиях. На основе проведенного исследования разработана модель логистической стратегии деятельности газотранспортного предприятия, которое обеспечивает оптимальное использование газа на этапах снабжения, потребления и хранения в подземных газоубежищах при минимальных расходах. Для разработки эффективной логистической стратегии газотранспортного предприятия проведен анализ логистических функций в газотранспортной отрасли и разработаны принципы функционирования логистических систем В результате применения методических аспектов управления запасами в логистической системе разработана модель процесса закачивания и отбирания газа из ПСГ, практическая реализация которой позволяет обеспечить контроль за бесперебойностью снабжения газа, максимальным закачиванием газа в подземные газохранилеща с целью обеспечения рентабельной работы газотранспортной системы на полную мощность и минимальный риск предприятия. Рассмотрены оптимизационные модели управления запасами, на основе которых определенно направления и критерии эффективного функционирования логистической системы. Прогнозные оценки развития процесса управления логистическими потоками на газотранспортных предприятиях являются основой принятия управленческих решений при оперативном, тактическом и стратегическом планировании и занимают главную позицию в структуре заданий логистической стратегии. Поэтому, учитывая сезонное потребление газа, в работе использованы прогнозные адитивну и мультипликативные модели, модель Винтерса та модель на основе анализа Фур’е с учетом сезонной компоненты, которые позволили спрогнозировать величины отбирания объемов газа из ПСГ. Разработана модель логистической стратегии управления материальным потоком в газотранспортной системе, дает возможность обеспечить интегрированную взаимосвязь системы планирования внутренней потребности в газовых ресурсах, системы управления запасами товарных ресурсов, системы управления закупкой товарных ресурсов, информационной системы. Кроме того, такая модель предусматривает комплексный подход к управлению логистическим потоком, учитывает динамический баланс внутреннего потенциала предприятия и состояние экономических отношений в отрасли и дает возможность облегчить процесс определения целей предприятия, которое заключается в разработке качественных и количественных показателей, которые являются основными критериями оценки предложенного для их достижения логистического подхода. Внедрение предложенной модели логистической стратегии функционирования предприятия позволит оптимизировать выполнение управленческих функций на всех стадиях экономического процесса, связанных с основным видом деятельности предприятия, - комплексным управлением газовыми потоками, которое обеспечивает контроль за использованием газа на этапах снабжения, потребления и хранения в подземных газоубежищах.
The dissertation work is devoted to the development of theoretical and practical positions of management of a logistic stream on the gas-transport enterprises. On the basis of the conducted research the model of the logistic strategy of activity of the is developed gas-transport enterprise, which provides control after the use of gas on the stages of supply, consumption and storage in the underground gas-shelters at minimum charges. The analysis of the logistic functions is conducted in gas-transport industry and the principles of functioning of the logistic systems are developed for the development of fhe effective logistic strategy of the gas-transport enterprise. The optimization frames of the case supplies have been studied on the basis of which the directions and criteria of the effective functioning of the logistic system have been determined. The models of prognostication including the seasonal character of functioning of the enterprise are developed which allowed to prognosticate the quantity of the amount of gas extraction from the dug-outs of gas. The algorithm of choice of logistic strategy of gas-transport enterprise has been offered which foresees the determination of basic correlations between the results of management of its logistic streams and charges on their achievement supply.

Purpose: In this study, areas of use of blockchain technology in transportation management will be discussed. The purpose is to contribute with theoretical research of advantages and disadvantages of blockchain technology in transportation management before an implementation at Rhenus Logistics.   Methodology: Through interviews and literature, ways of using blockchain in transportation management is researched. A case study is set up, to further analyze the research topic from the view of an individual third-party logistic company.  Findings: Results showed that for a third-party logistic provider to successfully use blockchain technology within transportation management, it is important to have the entire network onboard in the process. If so, functionalities such as track and trace, digital handling of paperwork and smart contracts could be used. The advantages of using blockchain technology for transportation management at Rhenus Logistics were found to be trust, transparency, traceability, efficiency, cost-saving opportunities and the use of smart contacts. Identified disadvantages for Rhenus Logistics was that blockchain is costly, stakeholders are hesitant to get involved, smart contracts are not considerate of blurry lines in real life practice and there is a challenge in finding an accurate blockchain design for their business model.

Pappersbruket Fiskeby Board som är placerat i Norrköping tillverkar kartong av 100% returfibrer. Bruket har tillverkat papper i flera århundranden och är en av Europas äldsta tillverkare av papper och kartong. På pappersbruket finns ett underhålls- och reservdelslager som bistår med artiklar till hela företaget. Målet med studien är att ta fram förslag till hur förrådshanteringsprocessen kan förbättras för att göra den mer effektiv. Studien resulterade i 25 stycken förbättringsförslag, dessa förslag delades upp i två delar, de förbättringsförslag som kunde implementeras direkt och de som behövde vidare undersökningar. Vissa förslag täcker flera möjligheter och problem och andra förslag täcker bara ett. Lika så kan ett problem ha flera möjliga förbättringsförslag för att lösa dem. Även förbättringar i from av nya instruktioner där hela aktiviteter är inkluderade har föreslagits.

Introduction: Improving efficiency through the supply chain has long been strived for by management. Traditional approaches focus on improving efficiency in the supply chain through optimization of a company’s internal activities, where warehouses play an important role. Companies are therefore dealing with the dilemma of how to increase efficiency in their warehouse, yet at the same time reduce operational costs. Current research focuses on strategies to increase efficiency in conventional warehouses by studying design, operations, and planning. Digitalization and lean warehousing are also emerging as important tools for warehouse efficiency. However, alternative warehouse types exist that are less researched. The research aimed therefore to investigate the challenges warehouses with stock point design face.   Methods: A qualitative and deductive case study approach was chosen. A literature review was first conducted to find the variables defining warehouse efficiency. Interviews and observations were then performed at the case company to investigate how the variables affect efficiency at the case company. Lastly, the theoretical framework was compared to the findings to find strategies to overcome the challenges.  Findings: Efficiency problems can be found in many aspects of the case company´s warehouse. Over time the warehouse has lost its structure, where a lot of reliability for warehouse procedures are placed on the employees and their knowledge about the company and all parts. Because of missing routines for reviewing parts data, changes in generations and parts being revised, are hard to keep track of which causes an effect on efficiency. It also increases the risk of deadstock.  Conclusions: In previous research, few studies could be found where researchers tackle the problems that multiple storage building causes on efficiency. By concluding that seven key variables define warehouse efficiency from previous research and applying them to a warehouse with stock point design, the challenges that an alternative warehouse face through the important variables in warehouse efficiency research could be explained.  All the variables affect efficiency, yet warehouse design has the biggest impact. Because of limited abilities with hand scanners and missing routines for reviewing parts data, operations, movement, and planning can also be concluded to have a high influence on efficiency.  To overcome the challenges, strategies for class-based storage assignment should be applied from the perspective of the storage building limitations. Right conditions for batching and good routines for warehouse procedures and reviewing parts data are also suggested as strategies.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka plockningsprocessen hos DSV Solutions i Norrköping och ta fram rekommendationer hur om hur plockningsprocessen kan tidseffektiveras. För att undersöka plockningsprocessen används observationer, tidsstudie, intervju och en workshop. Eftersom det finns effektiviseringspotential i plockningsprocessen är det viktigt att identifiera vilka aktiviteter som är värdeskapande och icke-värdeskapande. Om de icke-värdeskapande aktiviteterna kan minskas och lämna större plats åt de aktiviteter som skapar ett värde kan plockningsprocessen bli effektivare. Resultaten från tidsstudien indikerar på att en stor del av den tid som läggs på att plocka en order går åt till att utföra de icke-värdeskapande aktiviteterna "Transport" och "Övrig plockning". Transporten står för nästan 30 % och den övriga plockningen för cirka 15 % av den totala tiden för en order. Dessa aktiviteter bör tidsreduceras eftersom de inte tillför något värde till tjänsten som DSV erbjuder. De förbättringsförslag som läggs fram i denna studie är att DSV bör förändra plockslingan. Plockslingan bör bli mer sammanhängande och tunga produkter borde placeras tidigt plockslingan.

Lager har en betydelsefull roll i många försörjningskedjor. Att driva ett lager medför stora kostnader och företag strävar därför efter att ha en så effektiv lagerhållning som möjligt. Ett sätt att förbättra sin lagerhållning är att klassificera sina artiklar och placera dem utefter denna klassificering. Effekter företag kan få ut av en fördelaktig artikelplacering är, exempelvis reducering av orderplockningens tid vilket leder till ett effektivare orderplockning. Orderplockning är en av de viktigaste aktiviteterna i ett lager, eftersom den kräver mycket resurser i form av personal och tid. Syftet med studien är att genom artikelklassificeringar föreslå en artikelplacering och strukturera Autoexpertens lager med avsikt att effektivisera orderplockning. För att beskriva den nuvarande artikelplaceringen har en litteraturstudie genomförts och kompletterats med observationer samt intervjuer. Författarna har samlat in historisk data som i sin tur legat till grund för ABC-analyserna. Artikelgruppernas uttagsfrekvens samt vikt valdes som kriterier vid genomförandet av ABC-analysen, då dessa ansågs ha störst påverkan på orderplockningen. Utförandet av den dubbla ABC-analysen, med uttagseffektens %26 vikt som kriterier, blev sedan den ABC-analys som låg till grund för den föreslagna artikelplaceringen. Att uttagsfrekvens och vikt valdes som kriterier för ABC-analysen korrelerar med att dessa två kriterier har en stor påverkan på orderplockningen. Artikelgrupperna har med hänsyn till denna ABC-analys placerats efter uttagsfrekvens %26 vikt i fallande ordning i närhet till upplagsplatsen för att möjliggöra en högre plockeffektivitet. Vid upplagsplatsen påbörjas och avslutas plockprocesserna hos Autoexperten och utgör anledningen till att artiklar placerats i fallande ordning i närhet till den. Utöver utförandet av den dubbla ABC-analysen har två artikelplaceringar utförts på artikelnivå. Från dessa artikelplaceringar har kvantitativa mått på lagerpersonalens förflyttningar tagits fram och presenterats.

This thesis project investigates the state-of-the-art in traffic management "Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory (GLOSA)" for vehicles in a smart city. GLOSA utilizes infrastructure and vehicles communication through using current signal plan settings and updated vehicular information in order to influence the intersection approach speeds. The project involves traffic microscopic simulations for a mixed traffic environment of conventional and automated vehicles (AVs) both connected to the intersection control and guided by a speed advisory traffic management system. Among the project goals is to assess the effects on traffic performance when human drivers comply to the speed advice. The GLOSA management approach is accessed for its potential to improve traffic efficiency in a full market penetration of connected AVs with absolute compliance. The project also aims to determine the possible outcome resulting from enhancing the AVs capabilities such as implementing short time headways between vehicles in the future.  The best traffic performance results achieved by operating GLOSA goes for connected AVs with the lowest simulated time headway (0.3 sec). The waiting time reduction reaches 95% and trip delay lessens to 88 %.

The thesis focuses on evaluating and improving the transport efficiency of two types of logistics operations in the supply chain. One research area is the production of raw material in construction operations, specifically earthmoving operations. Methods and tools are developed to provide decision support in improving the transport efficiency of earthmoving at the vehicle and the systems levels. Using known road topography and a GPS unit, an optimal control problem is formulated and solved (Paper III) to determine the optimal gear shift sequence and timing in order to improve the transport efficiency at the vehicle level. For decision support at the systems level, a Fleet Performance Simulation (FPS) model is designed (Paper IV) to evaluate the transport efficiency for a given mix of construction vehicles in earthmoving. The FPS system is integrated with an optimization algorithm to solve the optimal fleet composition problem for earthmoving operations (Paper V & VI). Construction operations are dynamic and the environment is changing constantly, which bring difficulties in decision-making. Using GPS data from construction vehicles, a map inference framework (Papers I & II) is developed to automatically extract relevant input to decision support at the vehicle and the systems levels, which include the locations of various workstations, driving time distributions and road networks. The second research area is the transport efficiency of urban distribution system, which is in the final phase of the supply chain. An off-peak delivery pilot project in Stockholm is used as the background, designed to evaluate the potential for commercial vehicles to make use of off-peak hours for goods delivery. The thesis (Paper VII) evaluates the transport efficiency impacts of the off-peak pilot. An evaluation framework is defined where transport efficiency is studied in a number of dimensions. GPS data, fleet management data, and logistic information are used to assess the impacts.

Det finns olika sätt att öka kapaciteten hos en flygledare. En av de är att göra samordningar mer effektiva. Samordningar sker idag via datalänk eller verbalt, då genom telefonsamordning eller face-to-face. Det finns även icke verbala samordningar där bara kroppsspråk står för en del av kommunikationen. På en kontrollcentral utförs många samordningar och informationsdelningar mellan flygledare. Detta görs för att kunna hålla en hög säkerhet men ändå arbeta på ett effektivt sätt. Östgöta kontrollcentral, ÖKC, har undersökts för att se om informationsdelningen kan bli effektivare samt om en flygledarassistent kan stötta två flygledare samtidigt. Med hjälp av en teoretisk referensram och litteraturstudie har det visat sig att bland annat Lean production kan appliceras på området för att utvärdera ÖKC. Författarna har observerat den operativa verksamheten på ÖKC och samlat data som i sin tur ligger till grund för de mätningar som gjorts. Därefter har ett alternativt ÖKC tagits fram med förankring i teorin om hur kontrollcentraler bör se ut för en bra social samverkan och teamwork. Utifrån data från observationen är informationssträckan som information inne på ÖKC måste färdas 150,8 meter. Detta mätetal är undersökningens viktigaste mätetal och visar att alternativet har motsvarande 130,5 meter informationssträcka, vilket ger en minskning med 20,3 meter.

This thesis concentrates on implementing an efficient scheduling and planning system for a Third-Party Logistics Company as a 3PL has more restrictions and parameters on how their work gets carried out on daily basis. The problems associated with the case company is that the company has poor scheduling and planning system which is leading to decrease in productivity and increase in backlog of work. Due to lag in information flow between the stakeholders, planner is unable to predict the different situation. In this technological era, it is important to enhance planning and scheduling which directly reflects on productivity. On understanding the present problem based on interview with the traffic department, questionnaires to the shopfloor employees and observations made, authors selected particular framework by referring different journal articles which led to find the solution for the problem. This report gives the solution for enhanced scheduling system by integration of digitalization. Digitalization helps in reaching the updated information faster which is required for planning and scheduling process. An efficient scheduling and Planning system always help in a smooth functioning of any production facility. It keeps the work to be done on track and helps the employee in finishing the task for the day in the best possible way. This thesis is carried out and conclusion is achieved by solving the existing problem for the case company. This system may further enhance by incorporating RFID system which updates the information faster with more data required for planning and scheduling system.

Toyota Material Handling Europe, TMHE, is one of the worlds leading forklift manufacturers, who produces both warehouse and counterbalanced forklifts at three production sites across Europe. At each of the three production sites, there are three central warehouses, CWs, which stores spare parts to the forklifts. These CWs are managed by Toyota Material Handling Europe Logistics, TMHEL. TMHEL are responsible for all CWs and regional warehouses, RWs of spare parts, so that spare parts is available to service technicians in Europe within 24 hours. The current distribution structure of the spare parts is that the items from the suppliers are first transported to one of the three CWs before they are distributed further to the RWs. The identified problem with this distribution structure is the few CWs, which sometimes leads to longer transportation routes. For example, a RW in Germany can not order items directly from a supplier in Germany. It means that the goods first needs to be transported to a CW, before it can be transported to the RW in Germany. TMHEL thereby wants to investigate if the total cost could be reduced, if the supplier could deliver directly to either a CW or a RW. This means that the possible inbound delivery points from the supplier increases from three warehouses to six. The purpose of the thesis was thereby formulated as: ”The purpose of the thesis is to investigate if a change in inbound delivery point from three suppliers of spare parts can reduce the total cost.” The current total cost and the total cost for the five alternative inbound delivery points were thereby calculated and compared. The total cost were calculated based on a general total cost model by Oskarsson et al. (2013), which includes transportation cost, inventory carrying costs, warehousing costs, administration costs and other costs. After the total costs were calculated, a sensitivity analysis was made regarding changes in the input data, to see how changes would affect the total cost and which warehouse that would be the most cost efficient inbound delivery point. The results in this thesis showed that all three investigated suppliers should keep the existing inbound delivery point in Mjölby, since it gives the lowest total cost. The results also showed that the transportation cost was the largest cost parameter, which also affected the results the most. The current inbound delivery point gave the lowest total cost mainly due to the low transportation cost when transporting together with the production site, and the large demand at the current inbound delivery point. However, the sensitivity analysis showed that the most cost efficient inbound delivery point would change, for all investigated suppliers, if the input parameters changed. For one supplier, only small changes in the input data was required until another warehouse was more cost efficient to use as the inbound delivery point. For the two other investigated suppliers, large changes in the input data were required until another inbound delivery point was more cost efficient.

Within manufacturing organizations, the material flow is a promoted part of the supply chain to evaluate, since it often stands for a significant part of the costs. The evaluation refers to the analysis and optimization of the material flow that arise during manufacturing of products. It can focus on very different levels, such as the material flow in a region or within a company’s internal processes. However, the material flow is concerned with the transportations, operations and storages of materials. A well-organized material flow enables organizations to cutting costs and increase competitiveness, via increased effectiveness and efficiency of operating practices. Scania operates in the automotive industry and they are constantly striving to improve their supply chain in terms of productivity and lower costs, to meet the needs of the market and gain increased competitiveness. Today, Scania engine assembly in Södertälje has operations in two main buildings, approximately one km in-between. One building is the material warehouse, and the other building is the actual assembly. In the future, the two building will be joint together. Consequently, the project logistics department of Scania engine assembly has recognized a possibility to re-organize and improve the material flows. The upcoming merge between the two buildings enables a possibility to investigate how the current material flows could be more efficient, before they are applied in the future state. The purpose of this research is to investigate and improve a material flow, box flow, within an automotive environment. A box flow is concerned with smaller components that use plastic boxes as packaging material. The objective is to derive a more efficient process for the flow of supplying boxes to the assembly building. By efficiency, it is defined as shorter total lead time, higher capacity, lower time/cost per box delivered, and a maintained or improved ergonomics during manual handling operations within the box flow. To fulfil the purpose of this research interviews, observations and data collections have been used to gain an understanding of how the current situation is managed at Scania engine assembly. Conducted benchmarking and literature research have been used to gain an understanding of how other companies in the industry, as well as departments at Scania, are managing their box flows. The findings have been analysed, where the different flow of boxes have been compared with the theoretical frame of reference as well as against each other. The conclusions of the analysis are different key factors, for better logistics efficiency, when managing a box flow. These key factors are providing an increased theoretical understanding, when the aim is to make a material flow of boxes more efficient, in an assembly environment. In this research, they are utilized as guidelines, to derive a more efficient process for the flow of supplying boxes. That is, implementing the findings theoretically into a practical context. To derive a more efficient process, a Business Case have been conducted. Its outcome provides a concept of how the process of boxes should be organized. That is, how the different material handling operations and equipment should be utilized to achieve an overall increased efficiency. How the box flow should be organized are presented as recommendations, which works as guidelines and insights for Scania engine assembly. They are jointly fulfilling the purpose of this research, together with the other achieved research questions.
Inom tillverkningsorganisationer är materialflödet en prioriterad del av försörjningskedjan att utvärdera, eftersom den ofta står för en betydande del av kostnaderna. Utvärderingen avser analys och optimering av materialflödet som uppstår vid tillverkning av produkter. Den kan fokusera på många olika nivåer, som materialflödet i en region eller inom ett företags interna processer. Materialflödet berör emellertid transporten, operationerna och materiallager. Ett välorganiserat materialflöde gör det möjligt för organisationer att sänka kostnaderna och öka konkurrenskraften, genom ökad inre- och yttre effektivitet av utföranden inom företaget. Scania verkar inom bilindustrin och strävar ständigt efter att förbättra sin försörjningskedja när det gäller produktivitet och lägre kostnader, för att möta marknadens behov och öka konkurrenskraften. Idag har Scanias motormontering i Södertälje verksamheter i två huvudbyggnader, med ca en kilometer mellan varandra. Den ena byggnaden är materiallagret, och den andra byggnaden är den faktiska monteringen. I framtiden kommer de två byggnaderna att bli integrerade. Följaktligen har projektlogistikavdelningen vid Scanias motormontering bedömt en möjlighet att organisera och förbättra deras materialflöden. Den kommande integrationen mellan de två byggnaderna gör det möjligt att undersöka hur de aktuella materialflödena kan bli effektivare, innan de appliceras i det framtida tillståndet. Syftet med denna forskning är att undersöka och förbättra ett materialflöde, boxflöde, i en monteringsmiljö. Ett boxflöde behandlar mindre komponenter som använder plastlådor som förpackningsmaterial. Målet är att klarlägga en effektivare process för flödet av boxar till monteringsbyggnaden. Effektivitet definieras som ett flöde som har kortare total ledtid, högre kapacitet, lägre tid / kostnad per box levererad och en bibehållen eller förbättrad ergonomi under manuella hanteringar. För att uppfylla syftet med forskningen har olika typer av intervjuer, observationer och datasamlingar använts, för att skapa en djupare förståelse över den nuvarande situationen hos Scanias motormontering. Genomförd benchmarking och litteraturforskning har använts för att förstå hur andra företag inom branschen, även andra avdelningar på Scania, hanterar sina boxflöden. Den insamlade empirin har använts i en analys där de olika flödena av boxar har jämförts både med den teoretiska referensramen samt varandra. Konklusionerna från analysen är presenterade som nyckelfaktorer för att öka effektiviteten vid hantering av boxföden. Dessa nyckelfaktorer ger en ökad teoretisk förståelse, när syftet är att skapa ett effektivare materialflöde i form av boxar, i en monteringsmiljö. I denna forskning används nyckelfaktorerna som riktlinjer för att skapa en effektivare process för flödet av boxar. Det vill säga, att implementera nyckelfaktorerna teoretiskt i ett praktiskt sammanhang. För att ta fram en effektivare process har ett Business Case realiserats, som presenterar hur samtliga processer inom boxflödet borde organiseras på fallföretaget. Det vill säga, hur olika materialhanteringsoperationer och utrustningar borde användas för att uppnå en ökad effektivitet som helhet. Hur boxflödet ska organiseras presenteras som rekommendationer. Dessa bidrar med insikter och riktlinjer för hur Scanias motormontering borde organiseras, gällande deras interna materialflöde. Tillsammans med resterande forskningsfrågor uppfyller rekommendationerna syftet med forskningen.

The ‘City Logistics’ activities are contributing to traffic congestion and accumulating to environmental challenges, such situation has prompted the creation of urban consolidation centre (UCC), as a multimodal logistics park facility in the outskirts. The relocation of business from a city to the outskirts requires the evaluation and assessment of the key factors in order to make the better decisions. However, no relocation decisions evaluation model has been found, neither its application on the case company to find the effects of relocation on the logistics firms. This study is aimed at developing general business relocation model, that can be used by logistics firms, to evaluate the effects of their relocation.  The model is a decision making tool.   Application of the model before the relocation, help’s in decision making. Therefore, this research study focuses on developing a general model involving selected important factors that can be considered by logistics firms to evaluate the effects of relocation. The results for this research were analysed using the qualitative method, predominantly literature review, factors were applied on the case company. The DHL’s relocation scenario from Gävle city centre (Näringen) to the proposed Tolvfors Logistics Park (outskirts), relocation led to transport cost and drive-time reductions, along with efficiency improvements. The evaluation model has been developed, have likewise presented the drivers of relocation, and factors that logistics firms can consider for relocation’s possible outcome.

Holmen Paper Braviken använder sig av ett så kallat preliminärt utlastningsdatum i sin planeringsprocess av produktion och transport. Det preliminära utlastningsdatumet bestäms i dagsläget endast utifrån det datum som kunden önskar att få sin order levererad samt transporttid till kunden. Eftersom det preliminära utlastningsdatumet i dagsläget bestäms utan att ta hänsyn till produktionen eller kundorderns egenskaper kan det i vissa fall leda till att kundordrar blir försenade eller produceras i förtid. Effekterna av detta blir ökade kostnader för förseningar samt lagring. Studien syftar till att förbättra planeringsprocessen genom att ta fram en metod för att beräkna ett preliminärt utlastningsdatum som minimerar lagrings- och förseningskostnader. Syftet besvarades genom analys av insamlade data från historiska data, intervjuer samt litteraturstudier. Utifrån Holmens nuvarande planeringsprocess bör Holmen inkludera en tidsmarginal på två dagar i beräkningen av preliminära utlastningsdatum. Tidsmarginalen beräknas genom att först beräkna en säkerhetstid utifrån den önskade servicenivån. Därefter beräknas kostnaderna för olika tidsmarginaler inom den beräknade säkerhetstiden. Avslutningsvis väljs den tidsmarginal som genererar lägst kostnad ut. Utifrån studien rekommenderas Holmen Paper Braviken att se  över sin planeringsprocess och överväga om det är lönsamt att ändra på processen utifrån ett kostnadsperspektiv. För att förbättra leveransprecision och minimera kostnader kopplade till förseningar och kapitalbindning, bör Holmen själva föreslå ett leveransdatum till kund utifrån ett preliminärt utlastningsdatum som beräknas med avseende på kapacitetsbegränsningar och resurser. Holmen bör även se över att eventuellt kombinera lager- och kundorderstyrd produktion. Genom att applicera de föreslagna åtgärderna kan precisionen öka, antal dagar i lager och förseningskostnader minska och på så sätt kan processerna effektiviseras ur ett kostnadsperspektiv.

Optimizing city logistics is a topic of great importance for big cities today. Even though the environmental- and economical consequences of the increasing goods transportation fleet has been present for quite some time, actions from affected stakeholders has not been taken until just recently.  In this brief 9 week project the aim has been to,  from a design point-of-view, in this complex topic, give a suggestion and raise a discussion onto how goods transportation in cities can be made in the future.  The basic idea is to get the consignments as close to the consignees and their travel patterns as possible. Public transportation networks are an existing grid where people are moving around and can potentially be used for combined transport of goods and people. The outcome of this concept is focusing on light parcel delivery towards private consignees, due to the increasing e-commerce trend. By using small transporter vehicles connected to buses, light parcels can be distributed throughout a city and easily accessible for consignees at the bus stops.  The transporter vehicle developed through this project aims to conceptualize connectivity and integration between mobility and parcel delivery services, to ease the every day life of urban citizens as well as decrease the environmental- and economical impacts which the distribution vehicle-fleet of today entails.  The design of the transporter vehicle is an interpretation of how a autonomous distribution vehicle can look like in a future city environment where the integration of public-utility-vehicles is of greater importance.

Uma gestão eficaz da cadeia de negócio do gás natural com logística de transporte por gasodutos, considerando os principais agentes, como Carregador, Produtor, Transportador e Distribuidor, requer a utilização de tecnologia de informação e sistemas de suporte à decisão. Este trabalho apresenta um Sistema de Gestão de Logística de Transporte de Gás Natural por Gasodutos - SGLT, composto de módulos ou subsistemas integrados que propiciam maximizar a comercialização do gás natural e mitigar a ocorrência de perdas de receitas e multas contratuais devido a contingências que podem gerar falha de entrega do gás natural ao Distribuidor. Permite também avaliar o nível ótimo econômico de confiabilidade que deve ser mantido pelo Transportador, através da implantação de redundâncias, para mitigar sua exposição aos riscos de perdas de receitas e multas contratuais por parte dos agentes envolvidos na cadeia do negócio de gás natural. O sistema proposto é fundamentado na simulação Monte Carlo de falhas de equipamentos da malha de gasodutos de transporte e de restrições de oferta e demanda de gás natural, bem como os fechamentos acidentais de válvulas de bloqueio de gasodutos e de falhas nos pontos de entrega de gás natural de modo a quantificar seus impactos na Cadeia do Negócio do Gás Natural. O sistema proposto é constituído de (i) um Sistema de Informação Geográfico - SIG, (ii) um modelo de dados de gasodutos (Arc Pipeline Data Model - APDM), (iii) um simulador termo-hidráulico de escoamento de gás por dutos em regime permanente e transiente - Pipeline Studio 3.0, (iv) uma base de dados dos resultados das simulações termohidráulicas, (v) um modelo de simulação Monte Carlo para avaliação da confiabilidade do sistema de transporte utilizando o software @Risk 4.5, (vi) um modelo econômico com simulação Monte Carlo utilizando o software @Risk 4.5 e (vii) um otimizador, baseado em programação linear, para maximização da comercialização de gás e para minimização de perdas de receitas e multas contratuais devido a cortes de fornecimento de gás decorrentes de situações contingenciais. Este trabalho permitiu identificar, quantificar e justificar economicamente a implantação de unidades compressoras reservas nas estações de compressão do Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil, e aumentar a disponibilidade do sistema de compressão, reduzindo acentuadamente a exposição do Transportador a perdas de receita e penalidades contratuais por redução de capacidade de transporte decorrentes da entrada em manutenção de unidades compressoras e de falhas não-programadas de tais equipamentos. Foram também identificadas e quantificadas as falhas de válvulas de bloqueio de gasoduto e das estações de entrega de gás, não cabendo, nestes casos, a implantação de redundância.
An efficient management of the natural gas business chain, based on pipeline transmission network and taking into consideration the interaction between the main players such as Shippers, Suppliers, Transmission Companies and Local Distribution Companies, requires the use of information technology and decision-making support systems. This work presents a Natural Gas Logistic Transportation Management System, composed of integrated modules or subsystems that allow maximizing natural gas commercialization and allow mitigating revenue losses and contractual penalties due to contingencies that may cause failures in gas delivery to Local Distribution Companies. The proposed system also allow evaluating the optimum economic level of availability to be maintained by the Transmission Company by using stand-by equipment to mitigate its risk exposures to revenue losses and contractual penalties from the agents of the natural gas chain. The proposed system is based on Monte Carlo simulation of equipment failures of the gas transmission network, on the supply/delivery unexpected shortfalls, unexpected block valves closing and failures on the city-gates in order to quantify their impact on the natural gas business chain. The proposed system is made of (i) a geographic information system - GIS, (ii) a pipeline data model (Arc Pipeline Data Model - APDM), (iii) a gas pipeline thermo-hydraulic simulation for steady and transient states - Pipeline Studio 3.0, (iv) a data base of thermohydraulic simulation results and (v) a Monte Carlo simulation model to evaluate the reliability of the transmission system by using @Risk 4.5 and (vi) an economic model with Monte Carlo simulation using @Risk 4.5 and (vii) an optimizer, based on linear programming, for gas commercialization maximization and minimization of revenue losses and contractual penalties for not delivering the gas volumes at the contracted level. This work has identified, quantified and proved feasible the installation of stand-by compressor units at the Bolivia-Brail Gas Pipeline compressor stations and therefore improved the transmission system availability. As a direct benefit has reduced the Transmission Company risk exposure to revenue losses and contractual penalties due to reduction of pipeline transmission capacity as consequence of compressor units scheduled and nonscheduled outages. Failures of pipeline block valves and city-gates have also been identified and quantified but redundancy improvements were not required.

PLAS is a cloud-based software used for planning and scheduling fleets of vehicles for material transport. PLAS consists of two components; the Logistic Flow Solver (LFS) and the Material Transport Scheduler (MTS). Based on transportation requests, the LFS generates a set of logistic flows. The MTS then transforms the logistic flows into tasks that are assigned to the vehicles. The LFS is implemented with Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP). Currently, the LFS and the MTS are decoupled from each other and there is information that is not considered in the LFS. Thus, the choice of logistic flows generated with the current formulation may negatively impact the final transport plan. The objective of this thesis is to investigate how the generation of logistic flows can be improved. Two alternative mathematical models for the LFS were developed using MILP formulation. Compared to the current model, more information is taken into account in the two new models. Three different objective functions were considered. Scheduling of the vehicles were modelled as pickup and delivery problems, where pickup and delivery pairs correspond to the generated logistic flows. The models were implemented using Google OR-Tools, an open-source software suite for optimization. The different mathematical formulations were evaluated based on their performance for test problems with different fleet compositions. The results show that problem characteristics influence the performance of the models and that there is no model that gives the best result for every type of problem. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse problem characteristics in order to choose a suitable model for generation of logistic flows.
PLAS är en molnbaserad mjukvara som används för planering och schemaläggning av fordonsflottor för materialtransport. PLAS består av två komponenter; Logistic Flow Solver (LFS) and Material Transport Scheduler (MTS). Baserat på transportbehov genererar LFS ett antal logistikflöden. MTS omvandlar sedan logistikflödena till uppdrag som är tilldelade till fordonen. LFS är implementerad med blandad heltalsprogrammering. För närvarande är LFS och MTS frikopplade från varandra och det finns information som inte tas hänsyn till i LFS. Därför kan valet av logistikflöden genererade med den nuvarande formuleringen negativt påverka den slutliga transportplanen. Målet med detta examensarbete är att undersöka hur genereringen av logistikflöden kan förbättras. Två alternativa matematiska modeller utvecklades med MILP-formulering. Jämfört med den nuvarande modellen, tar de två nya modellerna hänsyn till mer information. Tre olika målfunktioner beaktades. Modellerna implementerades med Google OR-Tools, en öppen programvara för optimering. De matematiska formuleringarna utvärderades baserat på deras prestation på testproblem med olika kompositioner av fordonsflottor. Resultaten visar att problemegenskaper påverkar modellernas prestationer och att det inte finns någon modell som ger bäst resultat för varje problemtyp. Därför är det nödvändigt att analysera problemegenskaper för att kunna välja en lämplig modell för generering av logistikflöden.

[ES] En la actualidad, uno de los principales desafíos a los que se enfrentan las grandes áreas metropolitanas es la congestión provocada por el tráfico, la cual se ha convertido en un problema importante al que se enfrentan las autoridades de cada ciudad. Para abordar este problema es necesario implementar una solución eficiente para controlar el tráfico que genere beneficios para los ciudadanos, como reducir los tiempos de viaje de los vehículos y, en consecuencia, el consumo de combustible, el ruido, y la contaminación ambiental. De hecho, al analizar adecuadamente la demanda de tráfico, es posible predecir las condiciones futuras del tráfico, y utilizar esa información para la optimización de las rutas tomadas por los vehículos. Este enfoque puede ser especialmente efectivo si se aplica en el contexto de los vehículos autónomos, que tienen un comportamiento más predecible, lo cual permite a los administradores de la ciudad mitigar los efectos de la congestión, como es la contaminación, al mejorar el flujo de tráfico de manera totalmente centralizada. La validación de este enfoque generalmente requiere el uso de simulaciones que deberían ser lo más realistas posible. Sin embargo, lograr altos grados de realismo puede ser complejo cuando los patrones de tráfico reales, definidos a través de una matriz de Origen/Destino (O-D) para los vehículos en una ciudad, son desconocidos, como ocurre la mayoría de las veces. Por lo tanto, la primera contribución de esta tesis es desarrollar una heurística iterativa para mejorar el modelado de la congestión de tráfico; a partir de las mediciones de bucle de inducción reales hechas por el Ayuntamiento de Valencia (España), pudimos generar una matriz O-D para la simulación de tráfico que se asemeja a la distribución de tráfico real. Si fuera posible caracterizar el estado del tráfico prediciendo las condiciones futuras del tráfico para optimizar la ruta de los vehículos automatizados, y si se pudieran tomar estas medidas para mitigar de manera preventiva los efectos de la congestión con sus problemas relacionados, se podría mejorar el flujo de tráfico en general. Por lo tanto, la segunda contribución de esta tesis es desarrollar una Ecuación de Predicción de Tráfico para caracterizar el comportamiento en las diferentes calles de la ciudad en términos de tiempo de viaje con respecto al volumen de tráfico, y aplicar una regresión logística a esos datos para predecir las condiciones futuras del tráfico. La tercera y última contribución de esta tesis apunta directamente al nuevo paradigma de gestión de tráfico previsto, tratándose de un servidor de rutas capaz de manejar todo el tráfico en una ciudad, y equilibrar los flujos de tráfico teniendo en cuenta las condiciones de congestión del tráfico presentes y futuras. Por lo tanto, realizamos un estudio de simulación con datos reales de congestión de tráfico en la ciudad de Valencia (España), para demostrar cómo se puede mejorar el flujo de tráfico en un día típico mediante la solución propuesta. Los resultados experimentales muestran que nuestra solución, combinada con una actualización frecuente de las condiciones del tráfico en el servidor de rutas, es capaz de lograr mejoras sustanciales en términos de velocidad promedio y tiempo de trayecto, ambos indicadores de un menor grado de congestión y de una mejor fluidez del tráfico.

Per a abordar aquest problema és necessari implementar una solució eficient per a controlar el trànsit que genere beneficis per als ciutadans, com reduir els temps de viatge dels vehicles i, en conseqüència, el consum de combustible, el soroll, i la contaminació ambiental. De fet, en analitzar adequadament la demanda de trànsit, és possible predir les condicions futures del trànsit, i utilitzar aqueixa informació per a l'optimització de les rutes preses pels vehicles. Aquest enfocament pot ser especialment efectiu si s'aplica en el context dels vehicles autònoms, que tenen un comportament més predictible, i això permet als administradors de la ciutat mitigar els efectes de la congestió, com és la contaminació, en millorar el flux de trànsit de manera totalment centralitzada. La validació d'aquest enfocament generalment requereix l'ús de simulacions que haurien de ser el més realistes possible. No obstant això, aconseguir alts graus de realisme pot ser complex quan els patrons de trànsit reals, definits a través d'una matriu d'Origen/Destinació (O-D) per als vehicles en una ciutat, són desconeguts, com ocorre la majoria de les vegades. Per tant, la primera contribució d'aquesta tesi és desenvolupar una heurística iterativa per a millorar el modelatge de la congestió de trànsit; a partir dels mesuraments de bucle d'inducció reals fetes per l'Ajuntament de València (Espanya), vam poder generar una matriu O-D per a la simulació de trànsit que s'assembla a la distribució de trànsit real. Si fóra possible caracteritzar l'estat del trànsit predient les condicions futures del trànsit per a optimitzar la ruta dels vehicles automatitzats, i si es pogueren prendre aquestes mesures per a mitigar de manera preventiva els efectes de la congestió amb els seus problemes relacionats, es podria millorar el flux de trànsit en general. Per tant, la segona contribució d'aquesta tesi és desenvolupar una Equació de Predicció de Trànsit per a caracteritzar el comportament en els diferents carrers de la ciutat en termes de temps de viatge respecte al volum de trànsit, i aplicar una regressió logística a aqueixes dades per a predir les condicions futures del trànsit. La tercera i última contribució d'aquesta tesi apunta directament al nou paradigma de gestió de trànsit previst. Es tracta d'un servidor de rutes capaç de manejar tot el trànsit en una ciutat, i equilibrar els fluxos de trànsit tenint en compte les condicions de congestió del trànsit presents i futures. Per tant, realitzem un estudi de simulació amb dades reals de congestió de trànsit a la ciutat de València (Espanya), per a demostrar com es pot millorar el flux de trànsit en un dia típic mitjançant la solució proposada. Els resultats experimentals mostren que la nostra solució, combinada amb una actualització freqüent de les condicions del trànsit en el servidor de rutes, és capaç d'aconseguir millores substancials en termes de velocitat faig una mitjana i de temps de trajecte, tots dos indicadors d'un grau menor de congestió i d'una fluïdesa millor del trànsit.
[EN] Currently, one of the main challenges that large metropolitan areas have to face is traffic congestion, which has become an important problem faced by city authorities. To address this problem, it becomes necessary to implement an efficient solution to control traffic that generates benefits for citizens, such as reducing vehicle journey times and, consequently, use of fuel, noise and environmental pollution. In fact, by properly analyzing traffic demand, it becomes possible to predict future traffic conditions, and to use that information for the optimization of the routes taken by vehicles. Such an approach becomes especially effective if applied in the context of autonomous vehicles, which have a more predictable behavior, thus enabling city management entities to mitigate the effects of traffic congestion and pollution by improving the traffic flow in a city in a fully centralized manner. Validating this approach typically requires the use of simulations, which should be as realistic as possible. However, achieving high degrees of realism can be complex when the actual traffic patterns, defined through an Origin/Destination (O-D) matrix for the vehicles in a city, are unknown, as occurs most of the times. Thus, the first contribution of this thesis is to develop an iterative heuristic for improving traffic congestion modeling; starting from real induction loop measurements made available by the City Hall of Valencia, Spain, we were able to generate an O-D matrix for traffic simulation that resembles the real traffic distribution. If it were possible to characterize the state of traffic by predicting future traffic conditions for optimizing the route of automated vehicles, and if these measures could be taken to preventively mitigate the effects of congestion with its related problems, the overall traffic flow could be improved. Thereby, the second contribution of this thesis was to develop a Traffic Prediction Equation to characterize the different streets of a city in terms of travel time with respect to the vehicle load, and applying logistic regression to those data to predict future traffic conditions. The third and last contribution of this thesis towards our envisioned traffic management paradigm was a route server capable of handling all the traffic in a city, and balancing traffic flows by accounting for present and future traffic congestion conditions. Thus, we perform a simulation study using real data of traffic congestion in the city of Valencia, Spain, to demonstrate how the traffic flow in a typical day can be improved using our proposed solution. Experimental results show that our proposed solution, combined with frequent updating of traffic conditions on the route server, is able to achieve substantial improvements in terms of average travel speeds and travel times, both indicators of lower degrees of congestion and improved traffic fluidity.

The growing empirical literature testing informational efficiency of real estate markets uses data from various contexts and at different levels of aggregation. The results of these studies are mixed. We use a distinctive meta-analysis to examine whether some of these study characteristics and contexts lead to a significantly higher chance for identification of an efficient real estate market. The results generated through meta-regression suggest that use of stock market data and individual level data, rather than aggregate data, significantly improves the probability of a study concluding efficiency. Additionally, the findings neither provide support for the suspicion that the view of market efficiency has significantly changed over the years nor do they indicate a publication bias resulting from such a view. The statistical insignificance of other study characteristics suggests that the outcome concerning efficiency is a context-specific random manifestation for the most part. (authors' abstract)

This degree project has been made in cooperation with engineers working for GM Engineering/Saab Automobile AB in Trollhättan. The given name by Saab for the project is “Fuel efficiency improvements in All Wheel Drive(AWD)-system”. The main tasks of this thesis work were to investigate the size of the power losses in different parts on the propeller shaft, to design a computer program that calculates

coordinates and angles on a propeller shaft and to investigate the possibilities to put together a simplified formula that calculates the natural frequencies on a propeller shaft.

The main parts of this report are a compilation of the theory about AWD and mostly about the parts on the propeller shaft, and also a description of the developed computer program called Propeller Shaft Calculator. This report doesn’t concern power losses in the different joints because there were no such general equations to be found. The most common way to calculate the power losses inside a joint is to do tests were the power loss is measured at different angles, torque and speed and then use that data to put together an approximated equation.

Most of the work on this project has been on theory studies and on programming. The main result of the project is the program Propeller Shaft Calculator.

Propeller Shaft Calculator is a program that is designed in Microsoft Excel. All the menus are programmed in the visual basic editor in Excel. The program is supposed to be used as a help while designing new propeller shafts.

Propeller Shaft Calculator can calculate all the coordinates, lengths, angles and directions on a propeller shaft. It also calculates natural frequencies, plunge, estimated power loss on the second shaft and angles in the joints. In the program you can choose to do calculations on four different configurations of propeller shafts but can quite

easy upgrade the program with more choices.

Basically the program works like this:

First you choose the right propeller shaft in the main menu. Then you fill out the indata sheet with coordinates, lengths, material data and so on. As you type in the input data the output data will appear in the out-data sheet next to the in-data. Every propeller shaft has also a calculations sheet were more detailed calculations can be

found.

The program also has a built in help function and a warning function that lights a warning sign next to the values if they are outside the limits.

The results of this work show that the cost efficiency of tendered bus services is similar across all Swedish counties, except for the more high-density counties where efficiency is lower. Considerably lower efficiency is also found for contracts with services run in-house by the Public Transport Authority (PTA), compared to when the same service is run by a private actor. With respect to the competitive environment, it was found that many contract design factors have little or no effect on the number of bids that the PTA sees in their tenders. No measure that could be imposed by a single PTA was found to increase the total number of bidders by more than 0.5 bidders. However, the results suggest that PTAs as a collective could try to avoid tendering too many contracts at the same time because this was shown to reduce participation by up to about two bidders. In addition, these studies show that the local competitive environment is important for the PTAs to consider. The way in which contract areas are defined will also affect the participation rate as operators were found to participate in tenders to a lower extent the farther their workplaces are from the contract area. While larger operators appear to be less sensitive with respect to such distances, the fact that smaller operators are, and that they often bid as one unit as members of cooperation companies, makes the competitive environment important. The results suggest that depots could be included in the contract to stimulate participation, but this is by no means the only nor an easy solution. This thesis has also analyzed the entry made in 2015 by MTR Express (MTR) on the Stockholm-Gothenburg railway line. The overall conclusion is that customers are indeed facing lower prices one and a half years after the entry. MTR's prices are on average 100 SEK lower than the incumbent SJ's prices. Furthermore, the analysis shows that the incumbent’s prices have also gone down, by almost 13 percent, following the entry.

Questo progetto di tesi, svolto in collaborazione con l’azienda “Sitma Machinery” di Spilamberto e sviluppato all’interno del laboratorio industriale di ricerca “LIAM LAB”, ha come obiettivo lo sviluppo di un modello di simulazione tramite l’utilizzo di software basato su un motore ad eventi discreti. In particolare sono stati studiati due software: “Plant Simulation” ed un toolbox di “Matlab” chiamato “SimEvents”. E’ stato sviluppato un primo semplice progetto in entrambi gli ambienti di simulazione per valutare e confrontare le caratteristiche e le performance di entrambi i software. Fin da subito Plant Simulation si è rivelato più adatto per il tipo di studio necessario ed inoltre fornisce una maggiore flessibilità nella programmazione. Successivamente è stato studiato e modellato un grande impianto per lo smistamento di pacchi in Plant Simulation. Questo secondo progetto consiste in un case study messo a disposizione da Sitma. L’utilizzo di un modello di simulazione durante le fasi di design dell’impianto è stato un aiuto di fondamentale importanza per l’azienda poiché è stato possibile dimensionare correttamente il layout e verificare se erano presenti eventuali errori di progettazione. Inoltre, grazie al supporto grafico che fornisce un modello di simulazione 3D, è stato possibile verificare il corretto funzionamento del sistema. In questa tesi verrà introdotto il tema del Virtual Commissioning centrato sulle simulazioni ad eventi discreti. Successivamente verranno analizzate e descritte le specifiche di due progetti di simulazione condotti durante il lavoro di tesi e i successivi risultati ottenuti. Per il secondo progetto di simulazione, non è possibile mostrare l’intero layout dell’impianto visto che si tratta di un progetto reale coperto da vincoli di riservatezza.

Forecasts of short term volcanic activity are generated using an event tree process that is driven by a set of empirical statistical models derived through logistic regression. Each of the logistic models are constructed from a sparse and geographically diverse dataset that was assembled from a collection of historic volcanic unrest episodes. The dataset consists of monitoring measurements (e.g. seismic), source modeling results, and historic eruption information. Incorporating this data into a single set of models provides a simple mechanism for simultaneously accounting for the geophysical changes occurring within the volcano and the historic behavior of analog volcanoes. A bootstrapping analysis of the training dataset allowed for the estimation of robust logistic model coefficients. Probabilities generated from the logistic models increase with positive modeling results, escalating seismicity, and high eruption frequency. The cross validation process produced a series of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves with areas ranging between 0.78 - 0.81, which indicate the algorithm has good predictive capabilities. In addition, ROC curves also allowed for the determination of a false positive rate and optimum detection threshold for each stage of the algorithm. The results demonstrate the logistic models are highly transportable and can compete with, and in some cases outperform, non-transportable empirical models trained with site specific information. The incorporation of source modeling results into the event tree's decision making process has begun the transition of volcano monitoring applications from simple mechanized pattern recognition algorithms to a physical model based forecasting system.

Esta dissertação tem como objetivo contribuir ao ensino da logística, através da construção de ferramentas computacionais didáticas e gratuitas, adicionadas a um software do tipo SIG – Sistema de Informação Geográfica, com distribuição livre, permitindo a execução prática de diversos procedimentos importantes para a solução de problemas logísticos por parte de estudantes, técnicos e demais interessados na área de logística de forma gratuita. O conhecimento necessário para a construção de soluções de problemas de gestão logística ou da gestão de uma cadeia de suprimentos são interdisciplinares, envolvendo diferentes áreas como; geografia, informática, matemática, administração, entre outras. Assim, o processo de construção do conhecimento pelos aprendizes em logística torna-se um grande desafio, pois exige diferentes habilidades do aluno que primeiramente, precisa entender os assuntos de cada área de forma separada para poder integrá-los e iniciar a construção do conhecimento. Além do fator da interdisciplinaridade que complica o processo de aprendizado, os recentes avanços na área de computação e de algoritmos para solução de problemas em logística, tem causado um distanciamento dos profissionais entre as soluções disponíveis e a sua implementação prática. Nesse sentido, esta dissertação irá apresentar a implementação de soluções para problemas logísticos através da construção de ferramentas computacionais com fins didáticos desenvolvidas através da linguagem de programação Java que serão adicionadas como plugin ao software OpenJUMP.
The objective of this dissertation is to contribute to the teaching of logistics, through the construction of educational and free computational tools, added to a software like GIS - Geographic Information System, with free distribution, allowing the practical implementation of several important procedures for solving logistical problems by students, technicians and others interested in the logistics area for free. The knowledge required for the construction of solutions of problems of logistics management or the management of a supply chain , are interdisciplinary , involving different areas such as ; geography, computer science, mathematics, business administration, among others. Thus, the process of knowledge building by learners in logistics becomes a challenge because it requires different skills that the student first needs to understand the subjects of each area separately to be able to integrate them and begin construction of knowledge. Besides the factor of interdisciplinarity which becomes the learning process more complicate, recent advances in computing and algorithms to solve problems in logistics has caused a distancing of professionals from the available solutions and their practical implementation. In this sense, this dissertation will present the implementation of solutions to logistics problems through the construction of computational tools for didactic purposes developed through the Java programming language that will be added as plugin software to OpenJUMP.

Background: AA Logistics Sweden is having logistic efficiency problems, and at this point they do not have performance measurement in terms of KPI´s. Due to constant development and demand on their products, there have not been enough resources available to perform these measurements.

Purpose: Our purpose is, on the basis of service level and turnover speed, to measure efficiency in terms of KPI’s at AA. It is also to design record sheets that can assist AA to increase the efficiency over time.

Methodology: Interviews with managers and employees, in order to have a solid foundation for what to look for and analyse in the ERP system. The empirical material that was received was analysed on the basis of different theories.

Result, conclusions: We have developed values for each KPI and also suggested SMART goals that in the long run will contribute to increasing the logistic efficiency.

The aim of this thesis is to provide to the governmental decision-maker/user, an instrument that can assist him/her in improving the infrastructure investment decision in the economical, environmental and sustainable aspects. This means that, the Return on Investment (ROI) of the concerned transport infrastructure, satisfying environmental and sustainable constraints must be positive, and corresponding to an optimal investment cost. The decision support system can be applied in two dimensions. One dimension is where the real negotiation process is occurring between private and public stakeholders, called “real time negotiation process”. The second dimension is where the negotiation process is impelled by the user (public part) without private stakeholders interaction (but with interaction through simulation), called “virtual negotiation process”. The simulation and local optimization techniques, in phase with agent technology, used in the “virtual negotiation process” enable us to achieve a certain amount of alternative decisions to the primary/suggested decision to be evaluated. The CommonKADS methodology with mathematical modeling, and agent technology have been the support respectively for extracting and implementing the knowledge in the domain, monitoring, automating and updating the decision process. The principle of “Joint logistic” [1] in my effort concerns by the means of sharing financial and information resources; This leads to the empowerment of the supply chain feedbacks (roles), involved in the earlier stages of public transport decision making-process. It appears that within the decision-making process, the government is often dealing with the conflicting objectives, while interacting with the business stakeholders. For instance, the estimated investment cost of a specific transport infrastructure can exceed the income generated by this infrastructure, thus the ROI of the concerned transport infrastructure (TI) will be negative. From this perspective the government faces three choices: a) increase the rate of the taxes applied on that transport infrastructure or any other taxes, in order to make ROI positive, this can be matter of discussion/disagreement for the business community b) reduce the investment cost which means suggest a different TI with a lower quality standard compared to the previous; this can also be a matter of disagreement between the two concerned stakeholders. c) delay of the investment in the specific transport infrastructure. In fact in the most situations the government uses the first approach, which effects might be consequently unpredictable and disastrous in the economical and environmental sense for the government. From this point of view my attempt is to propose an intelligent decision support system for governments or project groups (e.g. East West project group), involving conceptually as components web portal, database, simulator and knowledge base, that bases on an approach, that enables this negotiation/information exchange at the earlier steps of decision-making situation. This is concretized by gathering in real time accurate and relevant information from the private sector; furthermore the knowledgebase of the designed system is conceived via the experience and historical knowledge of the concerned experts in the domain.

With the advancement of Internet technology and the popularity of Taiwan, the Internet shops and mobile phones have significant growth in recent years. Due to this reason, the logistics industry has also benefited from this situation. Today in Taiwan, almost everyone has a smart phone at least. Among almost all smart phone users will shop in e-shops, and the e-shops also provide door-to-door services. Convenience and efficiency in recent years cause the biggest reason to make e-shops grow rapidly. Because of this, the efficiency and accuracy of delivery of cargo logistics industry plays an important role. Among logistics industry, courier is also crucial. Among the delivery of goods, each courier must be carrying a PDA. And it has a little bit bulky and inconvenient. Due to the above reasons, the present study can expect delivery processes and service users, transplanted to the smart phone and use some techniques to achieve more efficient and reduce the cost of a system.

Purpose All internal logistics systems contribute to the overall success of healthcare service delivery; laundry management (as a closed loop logistics system) is a critical system which facilitates patient recovery and rehabilitation. Studies indicate that applying efficiency measures/improvement tools in such systems, can deliver financial savings and strengthening of in-house competencies (Banerjea-Brodeur et al. 1998; Golden et al. 2008). This study focuses on the review and improvement of laundry management systems in a Thailand Hospital and the organizational culture underpinning this. This hospital was awarded the highest level of hospital accreditation (high level of quality and environmental compliance within this site). Despite this, problems existed at a very basic level with the laundry management, which can undermine patient dignity and respect and increase risk infection and health complications. This study contributes to the Thai healthcare agenda, a core mission of which is to “Develop efficient and equitable integrated health service system for both normal situation and emergency with emphasis on basic rights, specialized service and emergency medicine, surveillance system, disease prevention and control and health threats” (MOPH 2003). Research Approach The key research methods employed include literature review, in-depth interview, observation, documentation and content analysis. A mixed methods methodology was considered appropriate for this study for a number of reasons including a lack of previous insight into this system and the number of actors involved. To this end a triangulated view of the laundry management system was realized. Findings and Originality Delays in the provision of linen and patient clothing (1-4 days bottleneck) were adversely affected by unstructured laundry operations, insufficient personnel, poor job design and worn-out equipment. As a result of this analysis several solutions were steadily implemented which led to: (i) linen shortage was reduced by 12.12% - 28.48%, and (ii) the total cleaning time per cycle was reduced by 130 minutes (45.12%). The impact of the improvement practices in place were perceived to be undermined by cultural factors such as very high internal conflict, the new hospital Director with relatively low power, and limited budget allocated to purchasing linen. Research Impacts Very few studies have explored a closed-loop supply chain of hospital laundry management systems, fewer collected data from key users using a mixed methods methodology. Reverse Exchanges (RE), a new theoretical framework, was adopted to examine the laundry processes. This study attempts to this study fill these gaps. Although this research studied one district hospital; the practices can be greatly generalized; and the diagram of laundry operations and this research design can be replicated. Practical Impacts Improvement measures have been identified which directly impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of this operation. Whilst this is once case study site analysis, this can offer a positive contribution to the healthcare agenda within this country.

The AT-3 aircrafts were manufactured by Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) since 1984. The life-span of original design is 7500 hours or 15 years. Now the Air Force has used this type of aircraft for over 20 years. Although the flight time of each AT-3 is still within the design value, making it probably safe to use further. But due to the Air Force didn’t apply fleet management during the early days. So the recording data is limited to individual aircraft, and possible deviation may result in the process of life-span or overhaul assessments. According to the newest national defense program, the service time of AT-3 aircrafts must be prolonged by 15 years. But the safety problem becomes more and more serious and need to be solved. So the periodically structure analysis of each AT-3 and some useful methods to achieve fleet management will be the groundwork of the prolonging program. The present study applied the Integrated Logistic Support Analysis (ILSA) and fleet management methods to analyze the structures and functions of individual aircraft. And the Logistic Information Management System (LIMS) was used to perform the benefit assessment of ILSA, the reliability, maintainability, usability and supportability of the power plant and accessory parts, to insure the optimal life-span cost and well-arrangement of AT-3 aircrafts, and accomplish the mission requirements. On the other hand, the degree of satisfaction of the LIMS operation, statistical analysis, collection and decision-making support of the system information was investigated by poll test. The present results show that the reliability of the new configuration is increased significantly, especially for the TaiCon/radio/IFF part. And the maintainability or maintaining hours reduce obviously, especially for the hydraulic system. The total reliability is increased by 74.44%. But according to the poll test, the collection of system information is the most unsatisfied item. The analytic methods proposed in the present study can be applied to the assessments of AT-3 prolonging program and the promotion of LIMS. Furthermore, the management operations of other aircrafts are also suitable to use the same methods.

In the business of aviation, the real indicator to aviation operation is the availability of aircraft operation. The high availability of aircraft operation depends on the efficient logistics management. This thesis focuses on three management aspects of aircrafts on mission and aviation logistics, which are, dispatch, maintenance, and supplies. Further discussion will be provided to make a revised and more integral logistics management database according to the interdependence and relations of these three aspects. And after the setup of the unification between the database and the applied program, the aircraft logistic management information system can be built to anticipate the arrangement of dispatch, maintenance schedule and supply management. We expect that this system could provide a brand-new management concept in the area of aviation logistics, and achieve the goal of high availability on aviation missions.

This thesis discusses an infrastructure of integral logistics support system for avionics system in logistics support and management organization. The expectation focuses on the economic effect and cost control toward high availability of aircraft operation. To the most important factors in logistics management, this thesis proposes an integration of operation assignment, maintenance logistics and component support. A cross relationship among these three factors are studied to formulate an efficient database structure with decision-making procedures. The proposed system combines aviation application with mission assignment to establish a maintenance scheduling then generates logistics support requirements in all major steps. In database construction, this thesis considers aircraft overall availability to integrate databases from all subdivisions with their linkages and identities. The auxiliary application system follows the decision-making rule with three key factors, and arranges aircraft assignment plan for different phases. The aircraft maintenance schedules, manpower supports and material demands are generated accordingly.

Abstract The world is getting smaller and smaller as the globalization prevails and the information and communication technologies advance remarkably. It becomes clear that quick response approach is the basic requirement for enterprises to survive in this competitive market. Under such changing environments, the demands for a variety of electronic and information products grow rapidly. On the other hand, huge enterprises utilize lots of information tools to enhance their core competency. For the integrated circuit (IC) assembly and test industry, it is no exception that speed and efficiency are the two main key factors to develop the competitive ability. Also, the life cycle for most IC products is relative short. Therefore, the entire supply chain system within the IC assembly and test industry demands fast and efficiency information flows for their end customers so as to well control and monitor the production flow and goods delivery schedule. In this study, we focus on the manufacture logistics problems arising from IC assembly and test industry. There are at least two problems we desire to tackle. One is the mistakes or losses that are caused by operators during the wafer receiving process. The other is lower electronic process of material transactions in warehousing. The systems integration approach is applied to resolve these problems using the electronic commerce, automatic identification, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) to reengineer the process flow. In addition, based on the ERP database and application tools, the Oracle Application Implementation Methodology (AIM), we build up logistics models and strength the functions of ERP inventory management systems by customizing the graphical user interface (GUI) and reports. The developed systems integration approach is implemented in a local IC assemble and test company. Results from this study suggest that it can eliminate most of the manual operations and improve the correctness and accuracy for the database information, which in turn can benefit the performance of the ERP system.

Objectives of this work, which have already done was explored the features of the formation of financial results of transport and logistics companies, considered the economic activities of the transport and logistics company, suggested measures to increase the competitiveness of the transport and logistics company, considered the impact of changes in the cost structure of the transport logistics company on financial results, developed a methodology for the formation and reflection of the results of the activities of a transport and logistics company in a specialized program. The provisions of the scientific novelty of this study the factors promoting increase of competitiveness in the market of transport-logistical services and expansion of client base, in particular, due to participation in tenders are determined the influence of creation of large transport and logistics complexes on the cost structure of companies in the sphere of small business was revealed, the methodology for accounting and forming an internal report on financial results in a specialized program of transport and logistics companies was developed, which makes it possible to increase the information content of reporting for the adoption of managerial decisions.

В данной работе были изучены особенности формирования финансовых результатов транспортных и логистических компаний, рассмотрена экономическая деятельность транспортно-логистической компании, предложены меры по повышению конкурентоспособности транспортно-логистической компании, рассмотрено влияние изменений в структуре затрат транспортной логистической компании на финансовые результаты, разработана методология формирования и отражения результатов деятельности транспортно-логистической компании в специализированной программе. Положения научной новинки этого исследования являются факторами, способствующими повышению конкурентоспособности на рынке транспортно-логистических услуг и расширением клиентской базы, в частности, за счет участия в тендерах, определяются влияние создания крупных транспортных и логистических комплексов на структуру затрат компаний в сфере малого бизнеса, разработана методология учета и формирования внутреннего отчета о финансовых результатах в специализированной программе транспортно-логистических компаний, что позволяет увеличить информативность отчетности для принятия управленческих решений.
