Oceanic film bursting is a phenomenon in which a thin liquid film representing the cap of the bubble bursts at the surface of the ocean, producing film drops. The film bursting phenomenon is critical in ocean-atmosphere exchanges, particularly in transferring heat, mass, and momentum between the ocean and the atmosphere. The film bursting phenomenon comprises a series of complex dynamics, such as drainage, puncture, film retraction, and film disintegration into film drops. The hole healing (i.e., when a hole is too small and is closed after its nucleation) is a critical parameter that could impact the film bursting dynamics, particularly the film thickness at bursting and, thus, the liquid budget for the film drop production. The present work investigates the dynamics of holes in free liquid films, presenting a comprehensive understanding of the hole-healing phenomenon while focusing on the film bursting in the oceanic context. This was achieved through a combination of numerical simulations and analytical approaches. The numerical simulations were carried out using Basilisk. This robust and efficient two-phase flow solver is based on a Volume-of-Fluid (VoF) method and written using the C-programming language. The underlying mechanism for the hole-healing phenomenon was studied in detail. The dichotomy simulations for the determination of the healing threshold carried out in this work have used high-resolution mesh refinement. This was possible by using an adaptive mesh scheme provided by Basilisk. The analytical approaches were used to develop hypotheses to predict the healing threshold of a hole on a film, which were tested against numerical results. The critical dynamics of the hole are examined, and distinct power laws were identified for the tip curvature to illustrate the driving mechanism. The variations in the hole healing threshold with other problem parameters were examined. This study was first carried out for a flat film, discovering that the healing threshold is increased by increasing the film Laplace number. This effect was pronounced for values ranging from 1 to 10000, coinciding with the customary range of film Laplace numbers observed for oceanic bursting bubbles. The observed effects were also elaborated upon, along with physical explanations. Since the exact initial shape of the hole was shown to influence the healing threshold, an examination was carried out to study this effect on the consistency of the results from changing the film Laplace number, taken as an example for the other. It was shown that despite variations in the threshold for different shapes, the effect of changing the film Laplace number was independent of the hole shape. Therefore, the dichotomy results were shown to be independent of the arbitrary choice of the hole shape throughout the study. A similar study was carried out for a hole in a bubble cap after a detailed study of the bubble and gas outflow dynamics. It was discovered that the gas outflow undergoes a Venturi effect, where a stronger outflow, resulting from smaller bubble sizes or higher gas Laplace numbers, was shown to increase the healing threshold. A hypothesis was developed to predict the Venturi effect on the healing threshold, resulting in a Venturi correction term that predicted a power law dependency on the bubble diameter, which agreed with the numerical results. The Venturi effect was significant for high values of the gas Laplace number, where the healing threshold was doubled by increasing the film mean curvature from a flat film to a bubble cap with a size 20 times the bubble cap thickness. These findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the hole-healing phenomenon, particularly in oceanic film bursting. The present work also offers a foundation for future studies on the film-bursting phenomenon involving complex dynamics, including hole healing

Train tracks were introduced by W. Thurston to study diffeomorphims of surfaces. In1988 M. Bestvina and M. Handel introduced a combinatorial notion of train tracks for free group of finite rank. In the first part of this thesis we study the R-tree T provided with an action of a finitely generated group G, an automorphism [alpha] € Aut(G) and a homothety H : T → T with stretching factor [lambda] > 1 which is twisted by [alpha]. We define a blow-up of this objet. Under these hypotheses we give a proof of the following result : every group action an a real tree has a singular train track. In the second part, since the blow-up of real trees is in general not cocompact, we study a finite blow-up of minimal real trees. We give a new version of singular train tracks which are cocompact but not H-invariant. The last part is about the H-invariance of finite blow-up. We distinguish two cases : either the action of G is free, or else it is not free. In the first case, we prove the existence of a singular train track which is a finite graph. In the second case we prove the existence of a singular train track which is a graph with finitely many vertices

The increase in the number of financial crises during an era of weak inflation has called into question the conventional wisdom according to which price stability promotes financial stability. That has led some economists to wonder about the existence of a possible "paradox of credibility" of the central banks and about the opportunity for introducing the asset’s prices in their reaction function. One can ask if the reduction of inflation supports the emergence of a speculative bubble. To answer this question, it is necessary to introduce a mechanism of financial accelerator into a general equilibrium model, where asset’s prices are determined by their supply and their demand. By influencing the structure of the firm’s balance sheet and their cost of capital, and by determining the composition of the household’s assets portfolio, the monetary policy can destabilize the financial dynamic, if it is too exclusively polarized on the eradication of the inflationary pressures. Indeed, it can induce the firms to favour their external growth instead of their internal development, and to invest in financial markets. This phenomenon can lead to a negative net supply of stocks, which is likely to raise their price above their fundamental value. The simulations which have been carried out show that it is necessary to fight against unemployment as well as inflation to escape the adverse effect of "the financial instability hypothesis" described by Minsky

This thesis aims at the characterisation of quasi two dimensionalvortices stemming from turbulent thermal convection in a half soap bubble heatedfrom below. The power law in time for their mean square displacement is also validfor Earth hurricanes. This law allows simple hurricane trajectory prediction with itstrack forecast cone wich compares very well to already available cones. In this way, track prediction uncertainty and track fluctuations around a mean track are linked. The intensity of the soap bubble vortices is also studied by the mean of particleimages velocimetry and shows that their velocity field profiles are well described by aLamb type model. The Lagrangian tracking of fluid praticles in a bubble vortex allowsus to follow its intensification and decline phases. We propose an intensification lawfor both soap bubble vortices and Earth hurricanes. Rotation influence on the vorticesnumber, on their life-time, on their trajectory and on the power law of their meansquared displacement is also gauged. The statistical properties of the temperaturefield fluctuations also seem to change with rotation. The exponent of the temperaturestructure functions present a scaling transition from n/3 to n/2

This thesis of geopolitics examines the relationship between powers and areas. It shows interest in the situation of the Lebanese state, which can considered as a victim of a process of territorial and societal breakdown, with effects on the local context influenced by the external regional context. It searches for understanding why many conflicts happen endlessly, repeatedly, and multiply on the Lebanese territory. Such conflicts are on various "scales"; Lebanese Vs Lebanese, Lebanese Vs foreign and foreign Vs foreign? This thesis is trying to understand the territories structures and the processes of territorial construction in Lebanon. The problematic is formulated from a number of questions: how are these territories born? What are their logics? By which players?

The object of this thesis is an experimental study of vapor bubble dynamics in sub-cooled nucleate boiling. The test section is locally heated by focusing a laser beam: heat fluxes from 1e4 to 1.5e6 W/m2 and water temperature between 100 and 88°C have been considered. Three boiling regimes have been observed. Under saturated conditions and with low heat fluxes a developed nucleate boiling regime has been observed. Under higher sub-cooling and still with low heat fluxes an equilibrium regime has been observed in which the liquid flowrate evaporating at the bubble base is compensated by the vapor condensing flowrate at bubble top. A third regime have been observed at high heat fluxes for all water conditions: it is characterized by the formation of a large dry spot on the heated surface that keeps the nucleation site dry after bubble detachment. The condensation phase starts after bubble detachment. Bubble equivalent radius at detachment varies between 1 and 2.5 mm. Bubble properties have been measured and non-dimensional groups have been used to characterize bubble dynamics. Capillary waves have been observed on the bubble surface thanks to high-speed images acquisition. Two main phenomena have been proposed to explain capillary waves effects on bubble condensation: increasing of the phases interface area and decreasing of vapor bubble translation velocity, because of the increased drag force on the deformed bubble

This thesis is concerned with a land speculation phenomenon which happened in the japanese metropolis during the second part of the eighteens. The first chapter is a general description of the urban land structure, regulation (urban planning rules, building regulation, land tax system, land information and registration, transaction control. . . ), as well as the main actors involved in the land markets. In the second chapter, we try to explain how the land price increase did happen, the way it spread to the suburbs and how it affected the hole japanese economy. The theorical aspects of speculation particularly "growing bubbles") are also taken into consideration. The third chapter focuses on the land policy of the public authorities. The stress is put on the fact that the japanese government has given the preference tho the preservation of the macroeconomic equilibrium instead of trying to cope with the urban environment and housing problem

The history of perversions tends to move from a catalogue of disparate psychiatric behaviors towards a single psychoanalytic structure in fetishism, which is best exemplified by male homosexuality. The reuniting of ail perversions under fetishism is alleged to constitute progress in both psychoanalytic theory and practice. This dissertation proposes to reverse the direction of this movement, arguing that contrary to what many believe, perversions never constituted a unique paradigm in the Freudian corpus. The work begins at the end of the 19 century, with the invention of perversion as a unitary disorder by French psychiatrists, amongst whom was Freud's own mentor J. M. Charcot. Moving away from the unitary paradigm, it then discusses the psychoanalytic notions of ego-splitting, fragmentation of the subject, and ego-modification. What is shown is that Freud deconstructed a pre-existing paradigm of perversion; he didn't invent one. Homosexuality occupies a central role in the construction and deconstruction of the perverse structure. Paradoxically, same sex desire is at once the primary example and counterexample of the paradigm it is purported to define. This work situates homosexuality at the point where the effort to define a single paradigm of perversion culminates and fails. Examination of this failure reveals the ideological and moral collusions that have unified the psychopathological categories and prevented their transformation. The failure to derive a "single general solution" to all cases of perversion introduces a fragmentary conception of the subject, while creating a space for invention, becoming the driving force of a subjectivating process

The model of a single bubble moving in a capillary tube is written as a contribution to the modeling of Pulsating Heat Pipes. A constant heat load is considered at the wall, and the reference temperature of the problem is defined to be the outside medium temperature, which is closer to reality, and thus allowing the saturation temperature of the vapor phase to vary. Using domain perturbation techniques, a step-by-step resolution ofthe model is implemented, allowing minor physical effects to be taken into consideration, for example the inertial effect on the receding meniscus. A new correlation is proposed on the thickness of the liquid film deposited by the receding meniscus, by means of the capillary number and an evaporation number representing the thermal condition. The velocity and temperature fields in the liquid plug ahead of the meniscus can also be obtained. The resolution of the problem associated with the rear-end of the bubble, where the rear meniscus advances on either a micrometric liquid film or an adsorbed film left by the dry-out of the capillary wall, shows a corrugating liquid-vapor interface. The magnitude of these corrugations is strongly dependent on the value of the heat load applied at the wall. In the case of wall rewetting, the interface corrugations at the triple line are due to its displacement, and not to the thermal boundary condition. Because the evaporative mass flux through the liquid-vapor interface modifies the vapor bubble mass, a complete transient thermodynamical model of the bubble is implemented. In this case, the important parameters controlling the kinematics, dynamics and thermodynamics of the bubble were identified

My doctoral thesis entitled Comics in Midi-Pyrénées: the local "Bubble" from 1970 to 2008 is divided into three parts. The first part is about French comic strips at the beginning of the 1970's, when Haga fanzine (a short name coming from Haute-Garonne) has been created by the Friends of Comic Strips' Association. That fanzine, edited by Jean-Claude Faur and Jean-Paul Tibéri, has been at the root of the Toulouse National Comics Convention, which took place between 1973 and 1981. The Toulouse Convention started a year before the first Angouleme International Comics Convention, which took place in 1974. The latter welcame the most famous authors at that time: Tardi, Mœbius, Gotlib, Saint-Organ, Fred, as well as all the new local authors scriptwriters about to become famous too. The second part shows an overview of the Colomiers Convention, which is the second meeting around comics after the one in Toulouse. In order to do that, I refer to its history, its net of partners and speakers, and the exhibitions organized by the Colomiers Comics Department. Pedagogical and school initiatives around comics and new authors' works lead to an overview of local fanzines about comics from 1970 to nowadays. The third part focuses on the commercial sides: the different contributors of the economic sector of comics and the spreading of the 9th Art. Then there is a list of comics' editors, galleries and specialized bookshops in that area. The final chapter deals with some meetings with the main protagonists, drawers, scriptwriters and their work, as well as an overview of the local culture regarding comics and the production of comic books referring to a local, geographical and patrimonial history

The spin-orbit interaction is essential for the reproduction of magic numbers N=28 and 50 in theoretical nuclear models. Over the past few decades, the experimental study of exotic nuclei has highlighted an evolution of magic numbers far from stability. One can then wonder about the evolution of nuclear potentials themselves, and in particular the one of spin-orbit interaction. Historically, this interaction was included « by hand » in mean field models, whereas it naturally arises in relativistic mean field models. The description of the spin-orbit interaction happens to be very similar in those two kinds of models, but there remains a disagreement regarding its isospin dependance. Indeed, Hartree-Fock models exhibit a spin-orbit potential which strongly depends on isospin, contrary to relativistic mean field models. In 2009, a proton bubble was predicted in ³⁴Si by means of several different nuclear models. This effect consists in a central proton central density depletion. ³⁴Si would exhibit a quite exotic proton density, and very different from its neutron density. This nucleus would then constitute an ideal probe to test the behaviour of the spin-orbit potential in systems with strong proton-neutron asymmetry. The appearance of such an effect would originate from the depletion of proton 2s½ orbitals, as s orbitals are the only ones contributing to the central density. An experiment which was performed in September 2012 at NSCL (MSU, United States) highlighted for the first time a proton bubble in ³⁴Si. The spectroscopic strengths of states populated in the knockout reactions ³⁴Si(-1p)³³Al and ³⁴Si(-1n)³³Si reveal that the neutron structure of ³⁴Si is close to the one of a system without beyond-mean-field correlations, whereas its proton orbital is only weakly occupied : n(2s½) = 0,16(4).The reactions ³⁶S(-1p)³⁵P and ³⁶S(-1n)³⁵S were studied in similar experimental conditions. The change in occupancy n(2s½) measured between ³⁶S and ³⁴Si, as well as the variation in the neutron spin-orbit splitting 2p½-2p^3/2 measured in an earlier experiment, suggest that non-relativistic models exhibit the right isospin dependance. The theoretical part of this thesis showed however that the difference in behaviour of the spin-orbit interaction between relativistic and non-relativistic model is actually an artefact caused by the omission of the exchange term in relativistic mean field calculations. Indeed, including the Fock term in relativistic models enables to restore the isospin dependance observed in the non-relativistic case

This thesis is on the edge of two domains: foam rheology and microfluidics. We present how to create a foam in a microfluidic channel system with a typical smallest dimension for the bubbles of 100 μm and we study its flow. After recalling the state of the art in two-phase microfluidics and 2D foam flows, we present the ensemble of experimental techniques that allow to produce the channel system and image the resulting flow. Then, we investigate microfluidic foam generation using the flow focusing technique. We measure the dependence of the foam properties (liquid fraction, topology) on the input parameters and geometry. We show that the rheology of the foam flow is very non-linear. The pressure-flow rate relation notably presents a threshold, a power law, and discontinuities related to topology transitions. We bring into evidence a retroactive effect of the flow in the channel on foam formation, that leads to a rich dynamical behaviour. We notably find an oscillation between different topologies that we relate to an instability that can either be advected, stationary or absolute. We eventually investigate a method to apply forces on the two-phase flow by ultrasound, to manipulate the foam externally
