This essay reads George Eliot's Daniel Deronda (1876) in dialogue with mid-Victorian debates on British nationality law, illuminating the larger questions of nationality and community that Eliot considered throughout her career. The 1860s, the decade in which the novel is set, witnessed a transformation in the law of subjecthood that culminated in the Naturalization Act (1870). In the lead up to the act, officials reconsidered the doctrine of “indelible allegiance” and debated whether and how the legal status of a subject should reflect an individual's choice and commitments. In the novel, Eliot approaches these issues by examining nationality as an individual experience in addition to a philosophical issue. For example, although both Sir Hugo Mallinger and Mordecai Cohen are British subjects, Mordecai's identity as a Jew conflicts with his legal status—to his great distress. Eliot uses Mordecai's proposal for a Jewish state to engage with an alternative form of national identity: one in which legal identity aligns with cultural and ethnic indices. In tackling these issues, Eliot exposes the complications and contradictions of national identity, showing how nationality law functions as a battleground for larger conflicts over the fate of nationality, both in Britain and beyond.

La rupture uterine est un problème de sante publique dans les pays en developpement. Lorsquelle est spontanee, elle survient le plus souvent pendant le travail dans un contexte duterus cicatriciel. La rupture uterine pendant la grossesse est une situation rare. Le diagnostic nest pas toujours evident et la morbidite et la mortalite maternelle et fœtale sont encore elevees. Nous rapportons un cas de rupture uterine spontanee en dehors du travail à 30 semaines.

Mitjançant l’estudi de la correspondència tramesa pel govern de Barcelona entre el 1520 i el 1522, confrontada amb algunes altres fonts epistolars, el present article analitza la situació sociopolítica de la ciutat durant l’esclat de la Germania valenciana i el comportament, el discurs i les accions dutes a terme pels dirigents de la capital de Catalunya en aquest context. S’hi observa una ràpida actuació per atallar tota mena de tumults, en col·laboració amb els caps dels gremis i en constant connexió amb les autoritats reials, per tal d’acomplir un objectiu: el de mantenir la ciutat fidel a la Corona.

<p>Les autores de l’article, professionals que han hagut de fer front a una població trencada pel dolor i la ferida dels atemptats i la mort o l’empresonament del grup de joves que els van cometre, reflexionen sobre la seva experiència de treball i els seus aprenentatges. Els atemptats les ha obligades a qüestionar-se tot el que havien estat fent fins aleshores en matèria d’acollida i integració de les persones migrades que viuen a Ripoll. Des del “què ha fallat” inicial, fins al “què podem fer a partir d’ara”. I en aquesta anàlisi els joves hi són especialment presents. Les autores expliquen l’estudi de camp que començar a fer després dels atemptats i al que hi van dedicar dos anys i mig i més de 1.000 entrevistes. Així mateix, presenten la metodologia ICERT ideada per elles mateixes i les accions dutes a terme. Assenyalen els 9 factors de risc que han identificat i les estratègies de treball comunitari que han començat a desenvolupar amb l’objectiu de treballar amb tots els agents de la comunitat i donar espai als diferents discursos, amb una actitud d’escolta oberta i disposició al diàleg.</p>

Obedience was one of the fundamental principles of community life in monas­teries in the first centuries. Based on the analysis of the texts of St. Pachomius’ and St. Basil’s legislation, the article addresses the issue of different correlations taking place within the framework of monastic obedience. The texts of the Rule of St. Pachomius as well as of the Asketikon of St. Basil the Great show that in the ceno­bitical life there was a close relationship between obedience to God, to His word, to the rule of life, to superiors, and, to some extent even to all brothers. Sacred Scripture was considered the primary, or even the only, rule of life for the ceno­bites. Both the Pachomius and Basil in their Rules put a strong accent on obedience to God, which, in practice, was realized in keeping His commandments. The main role of superiors was to lead the brothers to the fullness of salvation. They were to do it with care and responsibility. The analysis of the texts on superiors found that they indicated that the superiors had the obligation to be the first in keeping the God’s commandments as well as in obeying the Rule and the precepts of the elders. Obedience to superiors was understood as being the same as obedience to God, but was dependent according to the way the superiors fulfill their dutes of preaching the word of God and living their lives in agreement to their teaching.

As a first shot, one might say that environmental ethics is concerned distinctively with the moral relations that exist between, on the one hand, human beings and, on the other, the non-human natural environment. But this really is only a first shot. For example, one might be inclined to think that at least some components of the non-human natural environment (non-human animals, plants, species, forests, rivers, ecosystems, or whatever) have independent moral status, that is, are morally considerable in their own right, rather than being of moral interest only to the extent that they contribute to human well-being. If so, then one might be moved to claim that ethical matters involving the environment are best cashed out in terms of the dutes and responsibilities that human beings have to such components. If, however, one is inclined to deny independent moral status to the non-human natural environment or to any of its components, then one might be moved to claim that the ethical matters in question are exhaustively delineated by those moral relations existing between individual human beings, or between groups of human beings, in which the non-human natural environment figures. One key task for the environmental ethicist is to sort out which, if either, of these perspectives is the right one to adopt—as a general position or within particular contexts. I guess I don't need to tell you that things get pretty complicated pretty quickly.

Al context espanyol conviuen diferents models teòrics i pràctics que es disputen una definició d’assistència sexual i dels seus potencials beneficiaris i oferents. Aquest article els analitza críticament, manifestant les fantasies que les sustenten i els fantasmes que projecten l’objectiu de situar les controvèrsies que graviten al voltant del tema. Amb aquest objectiu, es parteix de dues etnografies dutes a terme entre els anys 2012-2015, a partir de l’observació participant desenvolupada en diferents projectes d’assistència sexual, i de 15 entrevistes en profunditat de caràcter semi-estructurat realitzades als principals actors implicats. Per l’anàlisi, organitzem el contingut al voltant de tres perspectives sobre l’assistència sexual: la primera es refereix a la visió de les prostitutes que es consideren assistents sexuals, i les altres dues – que hem anomenat model de “connexió eròtica” i model d’”auto-eròtica” – agrupen als projectes que presenten una proposta específica d’assistència sexual. Aquest arti cle no pretén aportar una definició conceptual de la mateixa sinó analitzar-la com a categoria etnogràfica, posant en diàleg les significacions socials que els actors implicats li atorguen. Per aquesta raó, els models definits responen a categories analítiques construïdes a partir de la recurrència d’elements natius. Els resultats obtinguts permeten situar els eixos vertebradors del debat sobre l’assistència sexual i les controvèrsies que se’n deriven. La pertinència d’aquesta reflexió es basa en què no només aporta claus sobre la concepció i la organització social de la vida afectiva-sexual de les persones amb diversitat funcional, sinó també sobre la nostra construcció cultural al voltant del cos, el desig i la sexualitat.

Resum: Les investigacions dutes a terme durant les últimes dècades han posat en relleu la singularitat i la rellevància de la documentació andorrana relativa al fenomen històric conegut com a «cacera de bruixes», tot destacant l’elevat nombre de processos per bruixeria conservats per als segles XV-XVII. Aquesta realitat documental ha motivat un projecte de recerca finançat pel Govern d’Andorra i basat en la recopilació i estudi del total de processos per bruixeria conservats al fons «Tribunal de Corts» de l’Arxiu Nacional d’Andorra. Els resultats d’aquest projecte han estat recollits en un espai web articulat al voltant d’un atles interactiu de les valls i d’una base de dades formada per desenes de fitxes individuals dotades d’un sistema d’etiquetes i enllaços, fet que converteix aquesta plataforma en una potent eina de recerca per als especialistes i, alhora, en una experiència innovadora de cara a la difusió i posada en valor de la recerca entre el gran públic. Paraules clau: processos, bruixeria, Andorra, Humanitats Digitals Abstract: The research carried out during the last decades has pointed up the relevance and uniqueness of the Andorran sources concerning the historical phenomenon of witch-hunts, by highlighting the large number of witchcraft trials preserved for the 15th-17th centuries. This archival reality has motivated the development of a research project financed by the Andorran Government and devoted to the collection and study of the totallity of witchcraft trials preserved in the series «Tribunal de Corts» of the Arxiu Nacional d’Andorra. The project’s results have been displayed in a web page containing an interactive atlas and a database composed of dozens of individual files enriched with a system of tags and hyperlinks. The platform therefore becomes a powerful tool for researchers as well as an innovative experience regarding the dissemination and valorisation of research among the general public. Article describes types of word–image relationships in Polish literary education and is based on interdisciplinary methodology. The reform of the education system in 1999 was a clear turning point in the history of Polish research on this issue. Use of iconic material in Polish language education, referring to intersemiotic relationships between the word and the image and resulting from tasks performed by the student during Polish language lessons, has been an important topic of discussionamong educationalists for many years. In terms of complementary reading texts that will further develop text interpretation, the authors consider equal treatment of literary and iconic texts. Cultivating interpretation skills open up new horizons to the contemporary young audience of the world in culture, literature, and art. As the next generation the quest for new meaning, initiating mechanisms of new vision and new sensitivity to the reception of arts will also allow a redefinition of the concepts of interpretation, meaning, and significance. Key words: literary reading in the classroom, visual reading, history of art, intersemiotic approach, intertextuality, literary responses Resumen El artículo describe tipos de relaciones entre palabras e imágenes en la educación literaria polaca y está basado en una metodología interdisciplinar. La reforma del sistema educativo en 1999 fue un claro punto de inflexión en la historia de la investigación sobre este asunto en Polonia. El uso del material icónico en la educación lingüística polaca, referida a las relaciones intersemióticas entre la palabra y la imagen, y los resultados de tareas llevadas a cabo por estudiantes durante las clases de polaco, han sido durante muchos años un importante tema de discusión entre educadores. Respecto a las lecturas complementarias que más adelante desarrollarán la interpretación del texto, las autoras consideran igualmente el tratamiento de los textos literarios y los icónicos. Cultivar destrezas interpretativas abre nuevos horizontes a la joven audiencia contemporánea al mundo de la cultura, la literatura y el arte. Para las nuevas generaciones, la búsqueda de nuevos significados, iniciando mecanismos para una nueva visualización y una nueva sensibilidad hacia la recepción de las artes, conllevará también una redefinición de los conceptos de interpretación, significado y sentido. Resum L’article descriu tipus de relacions entre paraules i imatges en l’educació literària polonesa i està basat en una metodologia interdisciplinària. La reforma del sistema educatiu el 1999 va ser un clar punt d’inflexió en la història de la recerca sobre aquest assumpte a Polònia. L’ús del material icònic en l’educació lingüística polonesa, referida a les relacions intersemiòtiques entre la paraula i la imatge, i els resultats de tasques dutes a terme per estudiants durant les classes de polonès, han sigut durant molts anys un important tema de discussió entre educadors. Quant a les lectures complementàries que després desenvoluparan la interpretació del text, les autores consideren en igualtat de condicions el tractament dels textos literaris idels icònics. Conrear destreses interpretatives obri nous horitzons a la jove audiència contemporània al món de la cultura, la literatura i l’art. Per a la nova generació, la cerca de nous significats, tot iniciant mecanismes per a una nova visualització i una nova sensibilitat cap a la recepció de les arts, comportarà també una redefinició dels conceptes d’interpretació, significat i sentit. Paraules clau: lectura literària a l’aula, lectura visual, història de l’art, enfocament intersemiòtic, intertextualitat, resposta literària.

Purpose: To determine the clinical characteristics of the chronic dacryocystitis and the success rate of external dacryocystorhinostomy. Methods: The retrospective, interventional study without comparing on 27 patients (32 eyes) of chronic dacryocystitis who underwent dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) from 2010 to 2011. Results were evaluated with standards: epiphora, purelence, lacrimal duct irrigation. Results: Over period of 6 months, 27 patients including 25 (92.59%) female, 2 (7.41%) male. The mean age was 49.8 years (range, 22-79 years). All patients demonstrated epiphera (range, 3 months – 11 years). Dacryocystorhinostomy was performed unilaterally in 81.48%, bilateral 18.52%. Successrate was 90.06% overall. Conclusions: Although techniques in dacryocystorhinostomy of DUPUY-DUTEMPS is old, its result is mainstay of treatment for chronic dacryocystitis in Vietnam. Using phone interviewsof 22 HSLs from across Canada, through this researchI show that beyond saving healthcare practitionerstime, HSLs are creative practitioners who anticipatethe research and practice needs of their users.Les bibliothécaires en sciences de la santé (BSS)assurent un soutien aux praticiens de la santé par uncertain nombre de services, y compris des services derecherche de documentation. Au moyen d’entrevuestéléphoniques avec 22 BSS partout au Canada, jemontre dans cette recherche qu’en plus de sauver dutemps aux praticiens de la santé, les BSS sont desprofessionnels créatifs qui savent anticiper lesbesoins en recherche et en pratique de leursutilisateurs.
