Each software project share different challenges related to technology, people and timelines. If every project is unique, how project manager can estimate project in a consistent way by applying his past experience. One of the major challenges faced by the project manager is to identify the key software metrics to control and monitor the project execution. Each software development project may be unique but share some common metric that can be used to control and monitor the project execution. These metrics are software size, effort, project duration and productivity. These metrics tells project manager about what to deliver (size), how it was delivered in past (productivity) and how long will it take to deliver with current team capability (time and effort). In this paper, we explain the relationship among these key metrics and how they statistically impact each other. These relationships have been derived based on the data published in book “Practical Software Estimation” by International Software Benchmarking Group. This paper also explains how these metrics can be used in predicting the total number of defects. Study suggests that out of the four key software metrics software size significantly impact the other three metrics (project effort, duration and productivity). Productivity does not significantly depend on the software size but it represents the nonlinear relationship with software size and maximum team size, hence, it is recommended not to have a very big team size as it might impact the overall productivity. Total project duration only depends on the software size and it does not depend on the maximum team size. It implies that we cannot reduce project duration by increasing the team size. This fact is contrary to the perception that we can reduce the project duration by increasing the project team size. We can conclude that software size is the important metrics and a significant effort must be put during project initiation phases to estimate the project size. As software size will help in estimating the project duration and project efforts so error in estimating the software size will have significant impact on the accuracy of project duration and effort. Conventionally diesel engines are controlled in open loop with maps based on engine speed and throttle position wherein fuel quantity is indirectly fixed using the rail pressure and injection duration maps with engine speed and throttle position as the independent variables which are measured by the respective sensors. In this work an engine control unit (ECU) software architecture where fuel quantity is directly specified in relation to the driver demand was implemented by modifying the control logic of a throttle position based framework. A desired fuel quantity for a given engine speed and throttle position was mapped from base line experiments on the reference engine. Injection durations and rail pressure required for this quantity was mapped on a fuel injector calibration test bench. The final calculation of injection duration in the new architecture is calculated using the fuel injector model. This enables determination of fuel quantity injected at any moment which directly indicates the torque produced by the engine at a given speed enabling smoke limited fuelling calculations and easing the implementation of control functions like all-speed governing.

For software organizations that rely on Open Source Software (OSS) to develop customer solutions and products, it is essential to accurately estimate how long it will take to deliver the expected functionalities. While OSS is supported by government policies around the world, most of the research on software project estimation has focused on conventional projects with commercial licenses. OSS effort estimation is challenging since OSS participants do not record effort data in OSS repositories. However, OSS data repositories contain dates of the participants’ contributions and these can be used for duration estimation. This study analyses historical data on WordPress and Swift projects to estimate OSS project duration using either commits or lines of code (LOC) as the independent variable. This study proposes first an improved classification of contributors based on the number of active days for each contributor in the development period of a release. For the WordPress and Swift OSS projects environments the results indicate that duration estimation models using the number of commits as the independent variable perform better than those using LOC. The estimation model for full-time contributors gives an estimate of the total duration, while the models with part-time and occasional contributors lead to better estimates of projects duration with both for the commits data and the lines of data.

Abstract STUDY QUESTION Is it possible to develop an automated annotation tool for human embryo development in time-lapse devices based on image analysis? SUMMARY ANSWER We developed and validated an automated software for the annotation of human embryo morphokinetic parameters, having a good concordance with expert manual annotation on 701 time-lapse videos. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Morphokinetic parameters obtained with time-lapse devices are increasingly used for the assessment of human embryo quality. However, their annotation is time-consuming and can be slightly operator-dependent, highlighting the need to develop fully automated approaches. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This monocentric study was conducted on 701 videos originating from 584 couples undergoing IVF with embryo culture in a time-lapse device. The only selection criterion was that the duration of the video must be over 60 h. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS An automated morphokinetic annotation tool was developed based on gray level coefficient of variation and detection of the thickness of the zona pellucida. The detection of cellular events obtained with the automated tool was compared with those obtained manually by trained experts in clinical settings. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Although some differences were found when embryos were considered individually, we found an overall concordance between automated and manual annotation of human embryo morphokinetics from fertilization to expanded blastocyst stage (r2 = 0.92). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION These results should undergo multicentric external evaluation in order to test the overall performance of the annotation tool. Getting access to the export of 3D videos would enhance the quality of the correlation with the same algorithm and its extension to the 3D regions of interest. A technical limitation of our work lies within the duration of the video. The more embryo stages the video contains, the more information the script has to identify them correctly. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Our system paves the way for high-throughput analysis of multicentric morphokinetic databases, providing new insights into the clinical value of morphokinetics as a predictor of embryo quality and implantation. This paper presents results produced by a domain-independent system development model that enables objective and quantitative calculation of certain development cycle characteristics. The presentation recounts the model’s motivation and includes an outline of the model’s structure. The outline shows that the model is constructive. As such, it provides an explanatory mechanism for the results that it produces, not just a representation of qualitative observations or measured data. The model is a Statistical Agent-based Model of Development and Evaluation (SAbMDE); and it appears to be novel with respect to previous design theory and methodology work. This paper focuses on one development cycle characteristic: resource utilization. The model’s resource estimation capability is compared to Boehm’s long-used software development estimation techniques. His Cone of Uncertainty (COU) captures project estimation accuracy empirically at project start but intuitively over a project’s duration. SAbMDE calculates estimation accuracy at start up and over project duration; and SAbMDE duplicates the COU’s empirical values. Additionally, SAbMDE produces results very similar to the Constructive Cost Model (COCOMO) effort estimation for a wide range of input values.

It is proven by many studies that software project failures are driven by not just from a single reason but multiple factors, combined and somehow closely related to each other. Basically, failure in projects is when the software developed is not delivered within time, within stipulated budget and of poor quality. All these rooted from poor project management and certainly in agreement with findings reported in the literature. Realizing the importance of this aspect in ensuring software project success, this paper presents our efforts in preparing future software practitioners to become readily equipped especially with teamwork essence through gaining real project work experience with the industry. Emphasizing the application of Teamwork Quality (TWQ) constructs, we invited several software houses to be part of our teaching plan and assigned our students in 12 teams from SSE4301 course to the projects initiated by each company. 14 weeks duration of coursework were given to these students to carry out their projects and at week 15 they delivered a presentation of their product in front of the industrial supervisors, lecturers and the rest of the class for assessment. Our premise is ideal teamwork influences the success of a software project. We believe this small effort capable to instill and cultivate ideal teamwork among the students when dealing with real clients and different set of expectations. Apart from that, we hope the implementation of our teaching plan that incorporated the industry involvement directly would be able to transform and elevate the landscape of teaching and learning we have been practicing for all these years.

Analysis of calcium sparks in cardiomyocytes can provide valuable information about functional changes of calcium handling in health and disease. As a part of the calcium sparks analysis, sparks detection and characterization is necessary. Here, we describe a new open-source platform for automatic calcium sparks detection from line scan confocal images. The developed software is tailored for detecting only calcium sparks, allowing us to design a graphical user interface specifically for this task. The software enables detecting sparks automatically as well as adding, removing, or adjusting regions of interest marking each spark. The results of the analysis are stored in an SQL database, allowing simple integration with statistical tools. We have analyzed the performance of the algorithm using a large set of synthetic images with varying spark sizes and noise levels and also compared the analysis results with results obtained by software established in the field. The use of our software is illustrated by an analysis of the effect of isoprenaline (ISO) on spark frequency, amplitude, and spatial and temporal characteristics. For that, cardiomyocytes from C57BL/6 mice were used. We demonstrated an increase in spark frequency, tendency of having larger spark amplitudes, sparks with a longer duration, and occurrence of multiple sparks from the same site in the presence of ISO. We also show that the duration and the width of sparks with the same amplitude were similar in the absence and presence of ISO. The software was released as an open source repository and is available for free use and collaborative development.

This article describes how predicting change-prone classes is essential for effective development of software. Evaluating changes from one release of software to the next can enhance software quality. This article proposes an efficient novel-based approach for predicting changes early in the object-oriented software. Earlier researchers have calculated change prone classes using static characteristics such as source line of code e.g. added, deleted and modified. This research work proposes to use dynamic metrics such as execution duration, run time information, regularity, class dependency and popularity for predicting change prone classes. Execution duration and run time information are evaluated directly from the software. Class dependency is obtained from UML2.0 class and sequence diagrams. Regularity and popularity is acquired from frequent item set mining algorithms and an ABC algorithm. For classifying the class as change-prone or non-change-prone class an Interactive Dichotomizer version 3 (ID3) algorithm is used. Further validation of the results is done using two open source software, OpenClinic and OpenHospital.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify a typology of procurement contracts in the context of software development projects that allows firms to align design flexibility with design uncertainty at the project level. The theoretical lenses of contract theory and software engineering are used to explain why the five archetypes in the proposed typology provide gradually increasing levels of design flexibility and to develop hypotheses about the associations between design flexibility and a set of project cost dimensions. Design/methodology/approach The hypotheses are tested with objective contractual data from 270 software development contracts entered into by a leading international bank over a period of three years. Findings Data analysis confirms the existence of the proposed typology and shows that design flexibility is negatively associated with control and positively associated with coordination, trust, duration and price. Research limitations/implications Although the findings are based on the contracting practices of a single, albeit sophisticated, organization, they shed light on the ability of firms to align flexibility with uncertainty at the onset of new projects by taking advantage of nuanced contractual mechanisms to produce a broader set of contractual archetypes. Originality/value This paper is the first in the outsourcing literature to analyze a nuanced contractual typology in software development projects through the perspectives of both contract theory and software engineering.

Functional complexity is one of the most fundamental properties of software because almost all other software attributes and properties such as functional size, development effort, costs, quality, and project duration are highly dependent on it. The functional complexity of software is a macro-scope problem concerning the semantic properties of software and human cognitive complexity towards a given software system; while the computational complexity is a micro-scope problem concerning algorithmic analyses towards machine throughput and time/space efficiency. This paper presents an empirical study on the functional complexity of software known as cognitive complexity based on large-scale samples using a Software Cognitive Complexity Analysis Tool (SCCAT). Empirical data are obtained with SCCAT on 7,531 programs and five formally specified software systems. The theoretical foundation of software functional complexity is introduced and the metric of software cognitive complexity is formally modeled. The functional complexities of a large-scale software system and the air traffic control systems (ATCS) are rigorously analyzed. A novel approach to represent software functional complexities and their distributions in software systems is developed. The nature of functional complexity of software in software engineering is rigorously explained. The relationship between the symbolic and functional complexities of software is quantitatively analyzed.

The main types of subsea production system constructions were analyzed and a number of factors, which affect the development of offshore oil and gas fields, were proposed. An algorithm for the software product was created which allows after geo-logical exploration and the discovery of industrial oil and gas recourses to optimize the planning process and to save time and material costs for the company at the preliminary stages of planning. The software product algo-rithm based on such factors asdepth and size of the field, duration of ice season of the region, remoteness of the field from the coast, the level of development of transport infrastructure and the complexity of geological structure.

The object of research is to parallelize the learning process of artificial neural networks to automate the procedure of medical image analysis using the Python programming language, PyTorch framework and Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) technology. The operation of this framework is based on the Define-by-Run model. The analysis of the available cloud technologies for realization of the task and the analysis of algorithms of learning of artificial neural networks is carried out. A modified U-Net architecture from the MedicalTorch library was used. The purpose of its application was the need for a network that can effectively learn with small data sets, as in the field of medicine one of the most problematic places is the availability of large datasets, due to the requirements for data confidentiality of this nature. The resulting information system is able to implement the tasks set before it, contains the most user-friendly interface and all the necessary tools to simplify and automate the process of visualization and analysis of data. The efficiency of neural network learning with the help of the central processor (CPU) and with the help of the graphic processor (GPU) with the use of CUDA technologies is compared. Cloud technology was used in the study. Google Colab and Microsoft Azure were considered among cloud services. Colab was first used to build a prototype. Therefore, the Azure service was used to effectively teach the finished architecture of the artificial neural network. Measurements were performed using cloud technologies in both services. The Adam optimizer was used to learn the model. CPU duration measurements were also measured to assess the acceleration of CUDA technology. An estimate of the acceleration obtained through the use of GPU computing and cloud technologies was implemented. CPU duration measurements were also measured to assess the acceleration of CUDA technology. The model developed during the research showed satisfactory results according to the metrics of Jaccard and Dyce in solving the problem. A key factor in the success of this study was cloud computing services.

ABSTRACT. Objective. To study the prevalence of smoking among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), as well as to establish the relationship between intensity, duration of smoking and serum levels of manganese and nickel. Materials and methods. A questionnaire survey was performed in two groups of women: the control group (I) included 38 healthy women, and the second group included 52 women with PCOS. In both groups, serum levels of manganese and were determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Statistical processing of the results of the survey was conducted using Statistika 8 software program. The U-Mann-Whitney test was used to assess the statistical significance of the obtained results. Comparison of the prevalence of smoking in both groups was performed using the parameter of statistical significance of differences for two relative values. Spearman coefficient was used for correlation analysis. Results. In women with PCOS, significantly higher manganese (p = 0.0012) and nickel (p = 0.0000) serum levels were found. In group I, 3 women reported smoking, in group II — 13 women. Among women with PCOS, the prevalence of smoking was significantly higher (p = 0.0000). Both groups differ neither in duration (p = 0.9463) nor in intensity of smoking (p = 0.7366). Duration and intensity of smoking were not associated with serum manganese. The intensity of smoking also did not affect serum levels of nickel. A positive correlation was found between serum nickel and the duration of smoking. Authors believe that during smoking manganese directly penetrates cerebral structures via olfactory rout. Only its small portion penetrates the bloodstream. This explains the high toxicity of manganese. Conclusion. Among women with PCOS smoking is much more common, however, the intensity and duration of smoking do not differ from the control group. Serum manganese levels are associated neither with duration nor with the intensity of smoking. Serum nickel levels are affected by the duration of smoking, rather than by the intensity of smoking. Subject. digital technologies used by the service of examination of temporary disability associated with a dental disease and their adoption in dental medical organizations of the Republic of Tatarstan. The aim — to develop a computer simulation program for predicting the duration of temporary disability associated with a dental disease. Results. Odontogenic inflammatory processes, which were identified in 66.1% of the cases, represented the largest proportion of causes of temporary disability in patients of dental medical organizations. Maxillofacial traumas took the second place with a proportion of 13.9% of all the causes. Diseases related to loss of teeth due to extraction were identified in 384 patients, or in 7.4% of cases, and took the third place. The authors of the study determined the duration of temporary disability for each category of dental disease in the Republic of Tatarstan, the average duration of which was 8.48 ± 0.04 days. Based on clinical statistical analysis, a matrix was created for predicting the duration of dental diseases leading to temporary disability represented by a computer software for dental medical organizations. Conclusions. Dental diseases in patients are related to the cases where treatment and rehabilitation are provided by several medical organizations; the authors created software for dentists, which predicts the duration of cases, their statistical analysis, eliminates errors in the issue of sick leave certificates, draws standard reporting statistical documents in order to provide reliable information on the state of the economically active population, to plan preventive activities, appropriate comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation of patients.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose an in-depth analysis of online communities of practice that support the innovative development of web applications. The analysis is aimed at understanding the preeminent characteristics of communities of practice that can favour the process of innovation (conceptualisation and realization of a web application) and if these characteristics differ in the diverse phases of a software development project (requirement specification, design, implementation and verification). Design/methodology/approach The authors adopted a multiple case study research design, selected 29 communities of practice related to the development of web applications and classified them recognizing the different practices that refer to the different phases of the innovation process of web-applications software development. Finally, the authors focussed on seven communities comparing five important dimensions for each one. Findings The results of the empirical analysis show that the best practices are different, considering the different phases of the project, and that these practices can be strategies directed at members to attract them and also, strategies directed at the community to permit collaboration. Originality/value The paper proposes an important and new insight into the management of virtual communities of practice (VCoP). The authors supposed that the ways to manage a VCoP could depend on project phases. In particular, the management practices of community should differ according to the different project phases, i.e. requirements specification, design, implementation and verification of the software. Literature in this sense presented only research focussed on the different effects of virtualness on teams depending on the length of team duration and on communication efforts.

This paper presents a study called collaborative-adversarial pair (CAP) programming which is an alternative to pair programming (PP). Its objective is to exploit the advantages of pair programming while at the same time downplaying its disadvantages. Unlike traditional pairs, where two people work together in all the phases of software development, CAPs start by designing together; splitting into independent test construction and code implementation roles; then joining again for testing. An empirical study was conducted in fall 2008 and in spring 2009 with twenty-six computer science and software engineering senior and graduate students at Auburn University. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups (CAP/experimental group and PP/control group). The subjects used Eclipse and JUnit to perform three programming tasks with different degrees of complexity. The results of this experiment point in favor of CAP development methodology and do not support the claim that pair programming in general reduces the software development duration, overall software development cost or increases the program quality or correctness.

Rainfall Intensity-Duration-Frequency curves and equations present the exceedance probability of a given rainfall intensity and storm duration expected to occur at a particular location, for the design of storm water drainage systems and hydraulic structures. The aim of this study was to develop IDF curves/equations aim for Oleh, a municipality situated in the low-lying and flood prone region of Nigeria. The study was conducted using annual maxima rainfall series (ARMS) of 28 years obtained from Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet). The AMRS were extracted into 15 Nos. storm durations between 10minutes and 600 minutes. The AMRS of each duration was fitted to Gumbel (EV1), LN2 and Normal (N) distributions using the K-S and A-D goodness-of-fit module of Easyfit software, Version 5.6. The graphical plots, development of IDF models and computations of performance measures of R2 NSE and RSR, were executed in Microsoft Excel, 2010. The results of GOF tests show that for K-S tests, Gumbel (EVI) is best-fit distribution in four durations, LN2 was best –fit in Nine out of fifteen durations, and Normal distribution durations scored 2. Similarly, for A-D GOF test, Gumbel (EVI) scored three (3), LN2 scored eleven (11), while Normal distribution scored one (1). Consequently, LN2 is the best-fit distribution, seconded by Gumbel (EVI). Accordingly, LN2 and Gumbel (EVI) distributions have been adopted in the development of the IDF models for Oleh municipality, while the performances of the IDF models may be presented the inequality; 0.984 ? R2 ? 0.998; 0.990 ? NSE ? 0.998 and 0.045 ? RSR ? 0.096. The graphical plots, IDF curves and models exhibited the peculiar attributes of IDF curves/equations reported in literature. The performance measures show that the equations are robust for practical application in the design of storm water drainage systems and hydraulic structures.

Software project scheduling is essentially a kind of project scheduling problem with limited human resources. During the development process of a software product, reworking the completed projects, reassessing the workload, and changing the number of employees or their skills are the frequently occurring dynamic issues having direct influences on designing a scheduling scheme. Taking the development cost and duration, the robustness, and the stability of the scheduling schemes as the objective functions, software project scheduling is modeled as a dynamic four-objective optimization problem. The various programming habits among the employees form the specific constraints for the reworking tasks, and the skills of the employees vary due to the effects of learning and forgetting. To solve this problem, an improved multiobjective firework algorithm with a novel explosion operator and reservation strategy is incorporated with rescheduling methods to fully guide the evolution by using the historical evolutionary knowledge. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method has better scheduling performance, and the optimal scheduling schemes have better robustness and stability.

The pilot research presented here explores the classroom use of Emerging Literacy in Mathematics (ELM) software, a research-based bilingual interactive multimedia instructional tool, and its potential to develop emerging numeracy skills. At the time of the study, a central theme of early mathematics curricula, Number Concept, was fully developed. It was broken down into five mathematical concepts including counting, comparing, adding, subtracting and decomposing. Each of these was further subdivided yielding 22 online activities, each building in a level of complexity and abstraction. In total, 234 grade one students from 12 classes participated in the two-group post-test study that lasted about seven weeks and for which students in the experimental group used ELM for about 30 minutes weekly. The results for the final sample of 186 students showed that ELM students scored higher on the standardized math test (Canadian Achievement Test, 2008) and reported less boredom and lower anxiety as measured on the Academic Emotions Questionnaire than their peers in the control group. This short duration pilot study of one ELM theme holds great promise for ELM’s continued development.

<span>The world of software engineering is constantly discovering new ways that lead to an increase in team performance in the production of software products and, at the same time, brings the customer's further satisfaction. With the advent of agile methodologies in software development, these objectives have been considered more seriously by software teams and companies. Due to their very nature, agile methodologies have the potential to be integrated with other methodologies or specific managerial approaches defined in line with agility objectives. One of the cases is Six Sigma, which is used in organizations by focusing on organizational change and process improvement. In the present study, attempts were made to present the hybrid software development approach, including Scrum, as the most common agile and Six Sigma methodology. This approach was practically used in a case study, and the obtained results were analyzed. The results of this evaluation showed that this hybrid method could lead to the increased team performance and customer satisfaction. However, besides these two achievements, an increase in the number of re-works, number of defects discovered, and the duration of the project implementation were also observed. These cases are in line with the main objectives of Scrum and Six Sigma and are justifiable and acceptable due to achieving those objectives.</span>

Artificial activation is an important step for successful somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). In order to clone animals, diverse methods of activation have been studied to increase the developmental efficiency of cloned embryos. Here, we investigated the pronucleus formation and in vivo development of canine cloned embryos produced by different durations of 1.9 mM 6-dimethylaminopurine (DMAP) treatment. For canine SCNT, in vivo-matured oocytes were enucleated, microinjected into the perivitelline space with donor cells, and fused by electrical stimulation. For activation, the fused couplets were cultured for 4 min in 10 μM calcium ionophore, and then they were divided into 2 groups: (1) the 2DMAP group was cultured for 2 h in DMAP; (2) the 4DMAP group was cultured for 4 h in DMAP. Activated cloned embryos were subjected to 2 analyses: (1) observing the pronuclear formation by bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) incorporation at 2 h, 4 h and 8 h post-activation (hpa), and (2) following fetus formation and pregnancy efficiency after embryo transfer into naturally synchronous recipients. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed by ultrasonography on Day 26 of embryo transfer. Data were analysed using Graph Prism software (GraphPad Software Inc., San Diego, CA, USA). All cloned embryos of the 2DMAP group showed BrdU incorporation at 2 hpa, whereas 4DMAP embryos showed 77.7% BrdU incorporation at 2 hpa (P < 0.05). Incorporation of BrdU was detected in all cloned embryos of both experimental groups after 4 hpa and 8 hpa. A total of 370 cloned embryos were transferred to 24 surrogate mothers (182 cloned embryos into 12 recipients in 2DMAP group and 188 cloned embryos into 12 recipients in 4DMAP group). There was no significant difference in pregnancy rate (2DMAP; 41.6% v. 4DMAP; 33.3%) or implantation rates (2DMAP; 4.9% v. 4DMAP; 3.7%) between the 2 groups. In conclusion, DMAP exposure for 2 h in activation completed pronucleus development of canine reconstructed embryos. However, none of the applied tested treatments resulted in increased implantation rates. Results: In this paper, pharmacophore of 4 novel anti-colon cancer compounds hasbeen identified and validated for the first time. Using LigandScout the pharmacophore featureswere predicted and 3D pharmacophore have been extracted via VMD software. A training setdata was collected from literature and the proposed model was applied to the training setwhereby validating and verifying their similar activity as that of the most active compounds.Conclusions: The pharmacophore model is a very handy tool for new lead compoundsdiscovery and development. In this study pharmacophore models were built for novel drugs ofcolorectal cancer and they could be recommended for further studies

This paper describes the development of a computer model used to analyze the heat flow during pulsed Nd:YAG laser spot welding of dissimilar metals; stainless steel AISI 302 to low carbon steel AISI 1008. The model is built using ANSYS FLUENT 6.3 software where almost all the environments simulated to be similar to the experimental environments. A simulation analysis was implemented, based on conduction heat transfer, out of the key hole where no melting occurs. The effect of laser power and pulse duration was studied. Four peak powers 5, 5.5, 6.5 and 7 kW were varied during pulsed laser spot welding (keeping the energy constant), also the effect of four pulse durations 5, 6, 6.5 and 7 ms (with constant peak power), on the transient temperature distribution and weld pool dimensions was predicted ,using the present simulation. It was found that the present simulation model can give an indication for choosing the suitable laser parameters (i.e. pulse duration, peak power) during pulsed laser spot welding of dissimilar metals.

Moreover, the need to increase the life cycle is characterized by two factors: external and internal. The internal factor arises due to the obsolescence of the program. In this case, it does not meet the new conditions, for example, a new operating system. The external factor arises from external influences in the form of interference or purposeful actions, such as computer viruses. The problem of creating the structure of software components of computing systems and information systems that ensure the duration of the life cycle in the presence of external influences is topical. The study of this problem contributes to the improvement of the technological base of computing systems and information systems that solve applied problems. The article presents a new life cycle model based on two models of growth and degradation. The article recommends a resource-based approach for life cycle assessment. As an analytical solution, it is proposed to use a logistic equation, which describes the mechanisms of the life cycle formation process quite well. The article discusses three types of resource in calculations: physical, technological and communicative. A general redundancy solution is proposed to create a network with the inclusion of a multigraph model.

<p class="Abstract">The development of a controller which can be used for engines used in armoured fighting vehicles is discussed. This involved choosing a state of the art reference common rail automotive Diesel engine and setting-up of a transient engine testing facility. The dynamometer through special real-time software was controlled to vary the engine speed and throttle position. The reference engine was first tested with its stock ECU and its bounds of operation were identified. Several software modules were developed in-house in stages and evaluated on special test benches before being integrated and tested on the reference engine. Complete engine control software was thus developed in Simulink and flashed on to an open engine controller which was then interfaced with the engine. The developed control software includes strategies for closed loop control of fuel rail pressure, boost pressure, idle speed, coolant temperature based engine de-rating, control of fuel injection timing, duration and number of injections per cycle based on engine speed and driver input. The developed control algorithms also facilitated online calibration of engine maps and manual over-ride and control of engine parameters whenever required. The software was further tuned under transient conditions on the actual engine for close control of various parameters including rail pressure, idling speed and boost pressure. Finally, the developed control strategies were successfully demonstrated and validated on the reference engine being loaded on customised transient cycles on the transient engine testing facility with inputs based on military driving conditions. The developed controller can be scaled up for armoured fighting vehicle engines.</p>

Abstract The article presents a technology for developing a terminal device for a multiplexed serial interface for data exchange to FPGA. The development was carried out using the System Verilog hardware description language. To meet demanding requirements. presented to this interface in terms of transmission speed, as well as the duration of transmitted and received bits of information, the device includes a built-in signal duration analyzer, which can also be used to exclude the influence of a part of the impulse noise that “leaked” through the input high-pass filter. The presented device has passed the verification of the main operating modes in the ModelSim-Altera software environment.

There is a buffet of agile methodologies comes under the umbrella of ASD, out of which Scrum got the highest popularity and acceptability index. Agile based software development is the need of immediate environment. There is an increasing demand for significant changes to software systems to meet ever-changing user requirements and specifications. As Agile is volatile, so effort estimation is challenging and still striving for perfection to decide size, effort, cost, duration and schedule of projects with minimum error. This cause sensitizes potential researchers all across the globe to start working on addressing the issue of inaccurate predication of efforts. The gap between estimated and actual effort is because of limited or no inclusion of various estimation factors like people and project related factors, inappropriate use of size metric and cost drivers, ignorance of testing effort, team member’s inability to understand user story size and complexity etc. This paper attempts to bridge the gap of estimated and actual effort by the use of soft computing techniques thus taking the research to advance frontier area in terms ofestimation. This article considers Function Point Analysis (FPA) as a tool for price substantiation and specification of liabilities for development of digital project, since each new project in the company is analyzed. Information acquired during the analysis forms basis for adoption of critical decisions regarding complexity, resources, frames, terms, expenses, etc. Even strictly defined projects may fall out at later stages without accurate analytical method. Reducing risks of software projects is the most important issue. In general, this starts from definition of exact measures regarding scale, productivity, duration, quality, and other key performances of project efficiency. Advanced methods of analysis, such as FPA, provide clear presentation of each of these metrics related mainly with the amount of project, personnel, expenses and time, which supports management, control, adjustment of software development at early stages of planning.

This allowed the opportunity to improve the quality of software by generating the relevant requirements of the criteria for quality evaluation. It is also possible to make the improvement of the metric analysis of models of its quality and its quantitative measurement methods in all phases of a software project. It was revealed that the driving force behind the success of software projects is the desire of their leaders to develop such software, which would have a certain value. It should be important for certain tasks or to achieve tactical and strategic objectives. The value of the software can be expressed in the form of its value, or in some other form. The customer usually has their own idea of ​​the maximum cost of investing in the development of software. These funds profit it expects to achieve in the case of the main goals of using the software. It can also have a vision of the functionality of software and certain expectations of its quality. The features of the use of the metric analysis for determining the quality of the software, revealed the lack of uniform standards for the metric. Therefore, each supplier of its measurement system offers its own methods of evaluating the quality of software and associated metrics. Also it is challenging the interpretation of metric values, since for the majority of users of its software metrics and their values ​​are not absolutely clear and informative. It was found that the main parameters of the choice of an embodiment of the software is its cost, the duration of the development process and the reputation of the designer of the company. But the decisions taken on the basis of these parameters, not always guarantee proper quality of the software.

To support that, the writer will use technology to create a learning media, named 3D short animated films. This kind of film turned out to attract the publics' attention, ranging from children to adolescents. The animated film will be designed with the theme of the first Islamic kingdom in Indonesia, named the Samudra Pasai kingdom with a duration of approximately 3 minutes. this animated film was made by Blender software version 2.79. The design of this animation aims to increase knowledge as well as learning media for students about the history of the Indonesian people, especially the history of Samudra Pasai kingdom.

Resource constrained software development projects are likely to exceed the planned duration as well as the originally planned budget. As variances arise, the revision of team-task-assignments and a resource reallocation might be advisable to avoid a project escalation. In doing so, the development management has to consider the impact on team expertise and possible productivity losses if team members are shifted to other work packages than originally planned. This paper proposes the use of a modified Earned Value Analysis based on new resource-based performance measures, which provides information on the performance effects of adjustment alternatives. Furthermore, it will be demonstrated how these figures can support the decision which human resources should be shifted if a delay exists in one work package that belongs to the critical chain. In this regard, the idea of the knapsack problem is transformed into the challenging task of shifting resources to find the work package that should release the resources to minimize an overall performance decrease. A case study clarifies the implementation.

Unnecessary repeated codes, also known as code clones, have not been well documented and are difficult to maintain. Code clones may become an important problem in the software development cycle, since any detected error must be fixed in all occurrences. This condition significantly increases software maintenance costs and requires effort/duration for understanding the code. This research introduces a novel methodology to minimize or prevent the code cloning problem in software projects. In particular, this manuscript is focused on the detection of structural code clones, which are defined as similarity in software structure such as design patterns. Our proposed methodology provides a solution to the class-level structural code clone detection problem. We introduce a novel software architecture that provides unification of different software quality analysis tools that take measurements for software metrics for structural code clone detection. We present an empirical evaluation of our approach and investigate its practical usefulness. We conduct a user study using human judges to detect structural code clones in three different open-source software projects. We apply our methodology to the same projects and compare results. The results show that our proposed solution is able to show high consistency compared with the results reached by the human judges. The outcome of this study also indicates that a uniform structural code clone detection system can be built on top of different software quality tools, where each tool takes measurements of different object-oriented software metrics.

The paper analyzes the performance of various composite materials in the lead-free apron for radiation shielding in biomedical applications. The challenging task is to extend the duration of wearing an apron, reduce the weight, and increase the comfort level for physicians. The lead-free composite materials used an alternative to lead in an apron due to their excellent properties, such as mass attenuation coefficients, effectiveness against gamma radiation, flexibility and light weight, and absorption. The present study discusses different simulation software used to assess the properties of the shielding material against the radiation effects. At the end of the paper, the promising directions are presented for future research.
