ABSTRACT Donald T. Nicolaisen (1944–2019) was an internationalist, a progressive thinker, and a leader of the U.S. accounting profession. This memorial article traces Nicolaisen's early education and career in the Milwaukee office of Price Waterhouse & Co. in the 1960s, his rise to partner and eventual transfer to the firm's national office in New York City in the 1970s, and his appointment and tenure as the Chief Accountant of the Securities and Exchange Commission in the early 2000s. During his time as the Chief Accountant, Nicolaisen laid the groundwork for the lifting of the reconciliation requirement for foreign private issuers traded on American stock exchanges; the implantation of Sarbanes-Oxley's internal control reporting requirements; and the introduction of XBRL for companies' annual filings with the Commission. Through these initiatives, Nicolaisen leaves behind a legacy of improving both the quality of financial reporting and the efficiency of U.S. capital markets. JEL Classifications: M41; M42; M48.

AbstractThe group algebras {kQ_{2^{n}}} of the generalized quaternion groups {Q_{2^{n}}} over fields k which contain {\mathbb{F}_{2^{n-2}}} are deformed to separable {k((t))}-algebras {[kQ_{2^{n}}]_{t}}. The dimensions of the simple components of {\overline{k((t))}\otimes_{k((t))}[kQ_{2^{n}}]_{t}} over the algebraic closure {\overline{k((t))}}, and those of {\mathbb{C}Q_{2^{n}}} over {\mathbb{C}} are the same, yielding strong solutions of the Donald–Flanigan conjecture for the generalized quaternion groups.

This study aims to determine the empirical evidence of differences before and after the announcement of the results of the election of President of the United States 2016 Donald Trump against the average abnormal return, trading volume trading activities, and frequency trading activities of shares in the capital market in Indonesia. This study is an event study with a 15-day window event that begins on October 31 2016 (t-7) to November 18, 2016 (t+7) and the date of the announcement of the 2016 Presidential Election of the United States of America which falls on November 9, 2016 as (t0). The sample used in this research is 24 stock members of LQ-45 index chosen by purposive sampling method. The data used in this study is secondary data sourced from the website of Indonesia Stock Exchange (http://www.idx.co.id/). Expected return in this study using market model. Then the data is analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2010 and SPSS 22 applications. The result of the research shows that based on the result of paired-samples t-test it can be concluded that statistically the average difference of abnormal return variable before and after announcement of election result of President of United States 2016 Donald Trump, then based on result of wilcoxon signed rank test can be concluded that statistically the average difference of trading volume activity volume variables, and the frequency of trading activity of stock before and after the announcement of the result of the election of President of the United States 2016 Donald Trump.

Donald Lynden-Bell's many contributions to astrophysics encompass general relativity, galactic dynamics, telescope design and observational astronomy. In the 1960s, his papers on stellar dynamics led to fundamental insights into the equilibria of elliptical galaxies, the growth of spiral patterns in disc galaxies and the stability of differentially rotating, self-gravitating flows. Donald introduced the ideas of ‘violent relaxation’ and ‘the gravothermal catastrophe’ in pioneering work on the thermodynamics of galaxies and negative heat capacities. He shared the inaugural Kavli Prize in Astrophysics in 2008 for his contributions to our understanding of quasars. His prediction that dead quasars or supermassive black holes may reside in the nuclei of nearby galaxies has been confirmed by multiple pieces of independent evidence. His work on accretion discs led to new insights into their workings, as well as the realization that the infrared excess in T Tauri stars was caused by protostellar discs around these young stars. He introduced the influential idea of monolithic collapse of a gas cloud as a formation mechanism for the Milky Way Galaxy. As this gave way to modern ideas of merging and accretion as drivers of galaxy formation, Donald was the first to realize the importance of tidal streams as measures of the past history and present-day gravity field of the Galaxy. Though primarily a theorist, Donald participated in one of the first observational programmes to measure the large-scale streaming of nearby galaxies. This led to the discovery of the ‘Great Attractor’. The depth and versatility of his contributions mark Donald out as one of the most influential and pre-eminent astronomers of his day.

Robert Donald Bruce (Bruce) Fraser was a biophysicist who gained world-wide distinction for his extensive structural studies of fibrous proteins. Bruce began a part-time BSc degree at Birkbeck College, London, while working as a laboratory assistant. In 1942, aged 18, he interrupted his studies and volunteered for training as a pilot in the Royal Air Force (RAF). He was sent to the Union of South Africa and was selected for instructor training, specialising in teaching pilot navigation. At the end of the war he completed his BSc at King’s College, London, and followed this with a PhD. Bruce studied the structure of biological molecules, including DNA, using infra-red micro-spectroscopy in the Biophysics Unit at King’s led by physicist J. T. Randall FRS. During that time Bruce built a structure for DNA that was close to the Watson-Crick structure that gained them and Maurice Wilkins at Kings College, the Nobel Prize in 1962. In 1952, he immigrated to Australia with his family to a position in the newly formed Wool Textile Research Laboratories at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Here, Bruce established a biophysics group for research on the structure of wool and other fibrous proteins that flourished until his retirement. Over that period he was internationally recognized as the pre-eminent fibrous protein structuralist world-wide. Having been acting chief, Bruce was subsequently appointed chief of the Division of Protein Chemistry and he remained in that role until he took retirement in 1987.

Анотація:

<p><em>This study is an event study that aims to find empirical evidence whether or not the reaction of the Indonesian capital market to one of the events abroad namely Donald Trump Victory Announcement Event as President of the United States 2016, using abnormal return indicator. This research is classified as research event study. The population in this study are all shares listed in LQ45 stock index in 2016. The sampling technique is purposive sampling, so that obtained the sample of 38 companies. Technique of collecting data using documentation method. Data analysis techniques used to answer this research hypothesis is paired-t test (paired sample t-test). The results of research at the level of significance of 5% indicates that there is a difference in average abnormal returns obtained by investors between before and after the events of Donald Trump Victory Announcement as President of the United States 2016. This is evidenced from the results of testing paired sample t test with a significance level of 0.000 Smaller than the specified significance level of 0.05. The results of this study prove that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.</em><em> </em><strong><em>Key Terms:</em></strong><em> Abnormal Return, Trump Effect</em></p>

Анотація:

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya abnormal return setelah peristiwa pengumuman kemenangan Donald Trump, dalam Pemilu Presiden Amerika Serikat 2016 pada saham LQ-45. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan event study, yaitu pendekatan yang digunakan untuk menguji efisiensi pasar bentuk setengah kuat. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah perusahaan yang terdaftar pada indeks LQ-45. Expected return dalam penelitian ini dihitung menggunakan market-adjusted model. Berdasarkan hasil uji-t ditemukan bahwa peristiwa pengumuman kemenangan Donald Trump dalam Pilpres Amerika Serikat 2016 menimbulkan reaksi pasar. Reaksi pasar dapat dilihat dari adanya abnormal return signifikan, yaitu pada H+1, H+3, H+4 dan H+5. Ditemukannya abnormal return signifikan pada H+3, H+4 dan H+5 berarti bahwa pasar tidak efisien karena reaksi terjadi berkepanjangan. Kata Kunci : reaksi pasar, efisiensi pasar bentuk setengah kuat, peristiwa politik.
