Em Sergipe, as Escolas Isoladas eram instituições escolares onde a maioria dos sertanejos sergipanos cursava a educação primária. A professora Isabel Doraci Cardoso (86 anos), representando bem a tradição interiorana, fez o seu curso primário entre o final dos anos de 1930 e meados de 1940 nesse tipo de escola. Este trabalho – com base no conceito de experiência de Edward Palmer Thompson (1981), na noção de cultura escolar de Dominique Julia (2001) e a partir de uma abordagem da história vista de baixo, de Jim Sharpe (1992) – propõe-se tratar sobre o processo de formação escolar da referida professora, estabelecendo as fronteiras entre as condições materiais e educacionais experienciadas e reveladas por sua narrativa, que se constituiu fonte e objeto de análise. Os dados revelam, em termos conclusivos, que esse tipo de narrativa contribui para o entendimento de uma pluralidade de circunstâncias que configuram e colaboram com a escrita da história.Palavras-chave: Educação primária. This work – based on the concept of experience of Edward Palmer Thompson (1981), in the notion of school culture of Dominique Julia (2001) and from an approach of history seen from below, of Jim Sharpe (1992) – proposes to deal with the educational process of the said teacher, establishing the boundaries between the material and educational conditions experienced and revealed by her narrative, which was the source and object of analysis. The data reveal, in conclusive terms, that this type of narrative contributes to the understanding of a plurality of circumstances that shape and collaborate with the writing of history.Keywords: Elementary education. ResumenEn Sergipe, las Escuelas Aisladas eran instituciones escolares donde la mayoría de los campesinos de Sergipe cursaban la educación primaria. La profesora Isabel Doraci Cardoso (86 años), representando bien la tradición interiorana, hizo su curso primario entre el final de los años 1930 y mediados de 1940 en ese tipo de escuela. Este trabajo – basado en el concepto de experiencia de Edward Palmer Thompson (1981), en la noción de cultura escolar de Dominique Julia (2001) ya partir de un abordaje de la historia vista desde abajo, de Jim Sharpe (1992) – propone tratar sobre el proceso de formación escolar de dicha profesora, estableciendo las fronteras entre las condiciones materiales y educativas experimentadas y reveladas por su narrativa, que se constituyó fuente y objeto de análisis. Neste trabalho efetua-se uma caracterização dos discursos da pedagogia e da psicologia sobre os problemas de rendimento escolar. A análise incide sobre o período de estruturação do sistema público de ensino e de difusão dos princípios da Escola Nova. São analisados artigos da Revista de Educação, também denominada Educação e Escola Nova, e manuais de psicologia educacional destinados à formação docente, publicados nas décadas de 1930 e 1940. A análise baseia-se em textos de Michel Foucault e Dominique Maingueneau sobre o discurso. O exame dos enunciados da psicologia e da educação indica que a melhoria do rendimento escolar era relacionada à possibilidade de produzir conhecimentos científicos sobre o aluno e controlar, rigorosamente, a organização do trabalho escolar, em especial as atividades docentes.

Dans les années 1930, le gouvernement du Québec ouvre des territoires à la colonisation pour favoriser l’établissement de familles touchées par la grande crise économique. Pour accompagner ces familles, le gouvernement crée des dispensaires qu’il confie à des « infirmières de colonie » pour faire les accouchements et fournir un service médical de première ligne, comme la vaccination et même de petites chirurgies. 174 postes furent ainsi créés dans la plupart des régions du Québec. Juliette Jourdain-Dumont fut l’une de ces infirmières qui exerça le métier à la dure dans le village de Saint-Dominique-du-Rosaire, près d’Amos, en Abitibi. De 1949 à 1952, elle y a fait 295 accouchements, sans en rater aucun. Elle raconte ici sa vie qui fut, à l’entendre et à la lire, une suite de joies que les inévitables difficultés aidaient simplement à préparer.

In March 1898 Abbé Jules Dominique (1838–1902; Bureau, 1903; Fig. 1) published an account of the bees collected by Constant Bar (1817–1884; Oberthür, 1888) and his family in French Guiana (Dominique, 1898). Jean M. Pérez (1833– 1914) had identified both the new and known species reported by Dominique and provided Dominique with manuscript names for the new species. While Pérez never published any of the proposed new species (Anonymous, 1917), Dominique in his account of the collection included both the manuscript names and a brief description in his own words for several of these species. Michener (1987) pointed out the taxonomic implications of this publication, in particular the potential instability to nomenclature when rediscovering names which have not been used for more than a century. While Michener considered several of Dominique’s new names valid, Moure (1967) had incorrectly regarded all of Dominique’s species of Euglossa and Eulaema as nomina nuda.

In 1930 to 1931, the British Museum expedition to Nineveh included among its activities there a stratigraphical sounding which resulted in the establishment of a sequence of prehistoric and early historic remains in northern Mesopotamia over a considerable chronological period (on the deep sounding of Nineveh see now Gut 1995; Gut 2002, esp. pp. 17–22, and also Gut 1999). This sequence, comprising five broadly defined phases, extends from the Neolithic (Ninevite 1) to the early third millennium BC (Ninevite 5).In 1989 I had the opportunity to study archaeological materials deposited in the British Museum in London. I was interested in the earliest Mesopotamian sealings — those of Tell Arpachiyah and Nineveh — and was provided not only with Ninevite 2–3 sealings which I had requested, but also with those of Ninevite 5, so I documented the latter as well. After publishing the Ninevite 2–3 items (Charvát 1994), I had no opportunity to publish the remainder.However, in 2001 Dominique Collon published an analysis of the seal impressions found in the Ninevite 5 archaeological strata documented by the Thompson and Mallowan expedition (Collon 2001; see also Collon 2003). When “Nineveh” was announced as the theme of the 49e Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale, I decided to present a paper on the detailed information I had recorded for a number of the backs of the sealings studied by Collon. My work builds upon Collon's art-historical analysis of the obverse of the sealings, but here I am concentrating on the “hidden faces” of the seal impressions in order to extend my study of the character of socially engineered exchange practices in the protohistorical period of early Mesopotamia.

Neste artigo, investigamos acerca do ensino de Desenho na década de 1920, especificamente nos valemos de exemplares da “Revista de Educação-Orgam da Escola Normal de Caetité”, periódico que foi catalogado pelo Grupo de Estudos em Educação Matemática (GEEM)[1]. Analisamos as publicações veiculadas em 1927 e 1928, em particular dos meses de fevereiro, junho e agosto. Este artigo apresenta sustentação teórica na História das Disciplinas Escolares, Chervel (1990) e na Cultura Escolar, Dominique Julia (2001). A investigação nos revelou vestígios de como transcorreu o ensino de Desenho no contexto educacional da Bahia na década de 1920 e a sua provável relação com a Ambidextria, Anatomia humana e Saberes Elementares Matemáticos. En el presente trabajo se estudia el empleo de imágenes y fotografías en cinco antologías sobre la Generación del 27: Poesía española. Antología 1915-1931 de Gerardo Diego (1932), las dos ediciones de Antología del grupo poético de 1927 de Vicente Gaos (1965, 1975), Antología de los poetas del 27 de José Luis Cano (1982) y Poesía de la generación del 27. Antología crítica comentada de Víctor de Lama (1997). También se plantea que los recursos visuales en ellas obedecen a unas reglas de combinación establecidas por el repertorio antológico sobre esta agrupación literaria para establecer imágenes de autor de tres maneras distintas: para figurar a los poetas antologados a partir de retratos de cada uno; al antólogo como creador del libro; y a la presentación grupal a partir de la fotografía del Centenario de Góngora en Sevilla en 1927. Para demostrar lo anterior se recurre a entender la antología como un libro coherente según las reflexiones de José Francisco Ruiz Casanova y su inserción en el sistema literario según Itamar Even-Zohar. Asimismo, para analizar la importancia de las imágenes, se emplean los conceptos de configuración y figuración que establece Dominique Maingueneau. La importancia de esto radica en entender las antologías poéticas sobre la Generación del 27 como parte de un repertorio en donde existen elementos y reglas de combinación para establecer modelos no sólo en la selección poética, sino también en los recursos visuales que utilizan.

AbstractCornelis van Vollenhoven (1874-1933), Professor des Rechts der (damaligen) niederländischen Kolonien an der Leidener Universität (1901-1933), hat in einer Mitteilung an die Königliche Niederländische Akademie der Wissenschaften über 'Nationales Staatsrechtsstudium' (1930) historische Untersuchungen angestellt nach der Pflege der Staatsrechtswissenschaft in den Niederlanden. Offensichtlich verfolgte Van Vollenhoven das rechtstheoretische Ziel festzustellen, was 'eigentlich' Staatsrechtswissenschaft ist, d.h. was Staatsrechtswissenschaft sein soll. Die Aanteekening op de Grondwet ('Kommentar zum Grundgesetz', 1. Aufl. 1839, 2e Aufl. 1841-1843) des berühmten Leidener Professors und späteren Staatsmannes Johan Rudolf Thorbecke (1798-1872) war in Van Vollenhovens Augen offenbar zwar nicht das Alpha und Omega in dieser Materie, sondern schon ein Modell der Staatsrechtswissenschaft. Für Van Vollenhoven ist Staatsrechtswissenschaft Studium des positiven Rechts, und ist Staatslehre keine Staatsrechtswissenschaft. Van Vollenhoven war kein Verehrer 'aristotelischer Allgemeinplätzen' in der Staatsrechtswissenschaft und er wehrte sich gegen das sogenannte 'antirevolutionaire Staatsrecht' des Guillaume Groen van Prinsterer (1801-1876 ; Groen war in seiner Staatslehre beeinflußt von C.L. von Haller, und später von F.J. Stahl) und seinen Nachfolgern (beispielsweise: A.F. de Savornin Lohman (1837-1924)). Diese 'kirchliche', d.h. 'unwissenschaftliche' Richtung in der Staatsrechtswissenschaft seiner Zeit betrachtete er als ein typisch niederländisches Phänomen. Van Vollenhovens anachronistischer Denkansatz hat m.E. zu einer völlig falschen Betrachtungsweise der Geschichte der niederländischen Staatsrechtswissenschaft geführt. Außerdem ging Van Vollenhoven außerordentlich schlampig um mit den historischen Quellen. Er war der Meinung, daß der Franeker Professor Ulrik Huber (1636-1694) der erste Jurist in den Niederlanden, und vielleicht mit Ph.R. Vitriarius (1647-1720) in ganz Europa, gewesen sei, der sich mit Staatsrechtswissenschaft beschäftigt hat (er hatte offenbar nie einen Blick in die Schriften von Männern wie Dominicus Arumeus (1579-1637) und Johannes Limnaeus (1593-1663) geworfen). Huber hat sich aber - anders als Van Vollenhoven behauptete - nie mit dem positiven Staatsrecht als eigenständiger juristischer Disziplin auseinandergesetzt. Van Vollenhovens Ausführungen sind deshalb völlig unhaltbar: der berühmte Leidener Gelehrte war Opfer seiner Nachlässigkeit und einer bornierten liberalen Wissenschaftsauffassung.

El objetivo de este artículo es proponer un análisis de las «poéticas» compuestas por escritoras españolas e incluidas en antologías poéticas publicadas en el siglo xx. Estos paratextos, en los que las autoras exponen sus ideas sobre la creación poética, constituyen un fragmento fundamental para la construcción del sentido de la antología en tanto que libro y un documento de gran relevancia a la hora de estudiar los procesos de autorrepresentación llevados a cabo por las poetas. Para ello, se recurre a las recientes investigaciones que se han desarrollado en torno a la figura del autor desde el ámbito francófono de la mano de especialistas como José-Luis Diaz, Dominique Maingueneau o Jérôme Meizoz, y a la teoría literaria feminista que, desde hace décadas, se ha ocupado de las relaciones entre género y autoría. This article demonstrates the social and cultural significance of eighteenth and nineteenth century Dutch penny prints – one of the first mass media in European history. By using a combination of media and cultural historical approaches (Henry Jenkins, John Fiske) and an anthropological perspective (Eric Hobsbawm) it asserts that, contrary to common notion, penny prints were not just part of a commercialized, conformist mass culture, but existed as a form of social resistance and protest as well. This new insight is based on the analysis of the adaption and publication history of the eighteenth-century French criminal hero Louis Dominique de Cartouche, the equivalent of the English highwayman. Give the multiple, multilingual representations of this narrative – in pamphlets, songs, biographies, prints, paintings and movies – the pervasiveness of Cartouche can be regarded as a remarkable cultural phenomenon. This interdisciplinary and long-term analysis also demonstrates that popularization processes were more dynamic and multifaceted than often perceived. In the case of penny prints about Cartouche more conformist periods alternated with more rebellious periods.

After more than five hundred years the political ideas of Sir John Fortescue (c. 1394–c. 1476) retain the potency which has ensured that they have seldom suffered total neglect, even if much of the interest they have aroused has been ideological in character. It was perhaps only in the 1930s that Fortescue first received appropriate attention in the context of the history of political thought; and the varied consideration devoted to him by scholars over the past quarter of a century suggests that the process of appraisal is by no means complete. Despite much discussion of Fortescue's basic political categories, it will be argued here, important dimensions of his thought have been fore-shortened – notably in regard to origins, basis, and character of political society as such. Again, some of the perspectives in which the fundamental concept of dominium has been presented may be misleading if they are applied to Fortescue's use of that concept without full recognition of his specific political purposes.

A Escola Caetano de Campos assumiu preponderante papel na renovação do ensino pré-escolar e primário paulistano nos anos iniciais da República. Tendo em vista os objetos pedagógicos introduzidos como fundamentais para a modernidade da época, o objetivo deste artigo é compreender as inovações na organização e composição da cultura material escolar que caracterizou essa instituição. Busca-se refletir sobre as finalidades e sentidos que a provisão material adquiriu na organização desse estabelecimento percebendo o modo como os objetos deram materialidade aos projetos de renovação educacional no Estado de São Paulo. Privilegia-se como procedimentos, além de revisão bibliográfica, a análise de impressos pedagógicos destinados ao professorado paulista, como as revistas “Jardim de Infância” (1896-1897), “Ensino” (1912) e “Eschola Pública” (1893) e os documentos oficiais da Escola Caetano de Campos encontrados no acervo do APESP – (Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo) e no CRE – (Centro de Referência em Educação Mário Covas), em especial, o Catálogo de Instrumentos para Ciências Naturais da Maison Emile Deyrolle (1931). Em termos teóricos, utiliza-se como aporte para o exercício analítico dessas fontes, as referências de Agustín Escolano Benito (2010, 2017), Dominique Julia (2001) e da historiografia brasileira especializada no tema da cultura material escolar, Castro (2013); Panizzolo (2011, 2013); Petry (2013) e Souza (2007, 2021). Conclui-se que os artefatos presentes nessa instituição tiveram por objetivo prover, além de modos de produção da vida material escolar, a produção/reprodução de valores para se atingir ideais de modernidade e cientificidade contribuindo para disseminar uma determinada concepção de ensino.

O ensino da infância no Brasil passa pelos Grupos Escolares, inseridos como modelos de organização do cenário educacional no período da República brasileira. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi construir uma história do ensino da Aritmética de três Grupos Escolares de Jequié, Poções e Vitória da Conquista – Bahia (1936–1980). Justifica-se o recorte temporal pela inauguração do primeiro Grupo Escolar instituído em Vitória da Conquista no ano de 1936, o Barão de Macaúbas, e abarca a década de 1980 pela catalogação de fontes do Grupo Escolar Pedro Alves Cunha, em Poções. Os documentos encontrados em arquivos escolares e arquivos pessoais como: documentos oficiais, leis, normas; livros didáticos e avaliações do período, bem como fontes orais, obtidas por intermédio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com ex-diretores, ex-professores e ex-alunos, permitiram-nos a realização da pesquisa, servindo como fontes para análises. No que concerne aos pressupostos teórico-metodológicos, fundamentou-se em: “História das Disciplinas Escolares”, de André Chervel (1990); “A cultura escolar como objeto histórico”, de Dominique Julia (2001); e o conceito de apropriação segundo a História Cultural, de Roger Chartier (1990). Uma história do ensino da Aritmética, inerente à dimensão cultural, se constituiu demarcada por conteúdos que perpassaram décadas, com interpretações de seus personagens (ex-diretores, ex-professores e ex-alunos). E assim, inferimos que operações fundamentais (Adição, Subtração, Multiplicação e Divisão), tabuada, prova real, prova dos noves-fora, livros de Antônio Trajano, Matemática Moderna, conjuntos, prova oral, correções com caneta vermelha, provas envolvendo conceitos, constituíram a Aritmética de Grupos Escolares baianos.

The time between WW I and II was a period of intensive development of church architecture in Germany. In the new situation after the defeat in WW I on the wave of Christian renewal movements, the concept of the church as a building corresponding to its functions, as an object expressing the character of religion and the vision of a congregation as a community in modern society was re -formulated. The dynamically developing church architecture was an area of intense experiments (especially in the 1920s.), creating new forms, as well as devising new iconography by Rudolf Schwartz, Otto Bartning, or Dominikus Böhm. The paper draws attention to a certain community of the main antagonized Christian and Protestant denominations on the example of two buildings erected on the eastern periphery of the then Germany (from 1945 constituting the western part of Poland): the Catholic Church of St Anthony in Schneidemühl (now: Piła, Hans Herkommer, 1928–1930) and the Protestant Cross-Church in Stettin (now: Szczecin, Adolf Thesmacher, 1929–1931). The first was built in a small town as a representative seat of the Prelature, a branch of the Catholic Church in the Protestant region, near the then border with (revived again) Poland. The building is a continuation of an innovative and conservative concept realized by Herkommer at the Frauenfriedenskirche in Frankfurt am Main (1927–1929), and is a testimony to the search for forms expressing the rationalist aspirations for the renewal of the Catholic Church, however without abandoning the main principles of the Tradition. For this purpose, Herkommer applies ‘industrial’ forms used in the Bauhaus circle, creating a clearly avant-garde building: not only in the local context of a small border town of eastern Germany, but also in the Catholic tradition of sacred architecture. Hiring an avant-garde architect and using modernist forms was the decision of one man: Monsignor Maximilian Kaller, the leader of the Prelature. The Church of the Cross in Szczecin was raised in a luxurious district of a great Protestant city, so it was the parish church of the Protestant elite. Although built of brick and clearly referring to the tradition of the Gothic architecture of this region, the Church of the Cross also reveals its striving for the maximum reduction of forms and the use of the language of abstraction. When building a Protestant church, Thesmacher resorted to forms applied primarily in Catholic architecture, especially to the forms used by Herkommer. Thesmacher created a facility expressing attachment to the local tradition and manifesting the modernity of the Evangelical church in Pomerania. As a result, both churches are a testimony to functionalist aspirations, although, of course, the functions differed from those on which, for example, the founders of the Bauhaus were focused.

Viberg, 2001), esti artículu trata de rastrexar la diacronía léxica del verbu llatín sentiō y la so continuación (constante o anovadora) nel lexema asturianu sentir. N’efeutu, los verbos que signifiquen «sentir», como’l llatín sentiō, los sos continuadores romances (gallegu, portugués sentir; asturianu sentir; castellanu sentir; catalán sentir; francés sentir; italianu pandialectal sentire; friulianu sintî, romanche sentir, santir; rumanu simți) y otres unidaes léxiques análogues (inglés feel, neerlandés voel, rusu чувствовать [chuvstvovat’] por exemplu), representen un casu de «multimodalidá» o polisemia (Delmas, 2006; Jansegers, Enghels & Cruz-Domínguez, 2016; Fernández-Jaén, 2016), típicamente estudiáu ente los verbos cognitivos del llinguaxe. El nuestru trabayu parte de los datos lexicográficos del ThLL (1900-), el DELLA (2018-2022) y otros diccionarios del llatín y del asturianu, asina como de trabayos propios, de corpus y encuestes feches a falantes de l’Asturies de güei, col oxetivu de presentar una triple carauterización del verbu dende estremaos puntos de vista: sincrónicamente, como continuador del llatín (diacrónicamente) y nel conxuntu de la Romania (comparativamente), y, en tou casu, considerando fechos que correspuenden a estremaos niveles d’analís llingüísticu. ROMAN LAW AS A PART OF THE ENGLISH DOCTRINE AND PRACTICE OF THE INTERNATIONAL LAWSummary This paper presents views on the role played by Roman Law as a factor in creating the roots of international law which developed within the English legal doctrine from the 16,h to the 19th century. In addition, it exemplifies applications of the institutions of Roman law in international legal practice. The general theory discounts the influence of Roman law on the British system of law. This, however, should be reviewed, as the evidence shows that Roman law has always played a vital role in the English legal system (e. g. Courts of Chancery, Admiralty, Constable and Marshall, Ecclesiastical Courts, Doctors’ Commons organisation). The Roman influences on the doctrine of English international law (Gentilis, Zouche, Duck, Wiseman, Westlake, Maine, Phillimore) indicate a positive, or even enthusiastic attitude towards the use of Roman law as a source of international law. One of the public branches where English practitioners and theorists of civil law could always find employment was in HM Foreign Service, which had a strong need for lawyers qualified in Roman law who were often educated and trained at English universities.One of the earliest authors describing the use of the theory and practice of Roman law in international law was Alberigo Gentili. Although he was Italian, his professional life and career was bound to England as both a Regius Professor at Oxford University and as a legal counsellor for the Privy Council. He gained much prominence and his works on international law, De Jure Belli, De Legationibus and Advocationis Hispanicae have become frequently quoted in the theory of international law. Another Oxford Regius Professor, and a judge in the Admiralty Court, Sir Richard Zouche, together with Gentili and Grotius, is regarded as the father of international law. Among his many works, Jus inter Gentes and Juris et Judicii Fecialis illustrate the influences of Roman law on the developing theory (and practice) of international law. The Roman ideas are particularly visible in Jus Inter Gentes, where Zouche had used the Roman systematic of status, dominium., delictum and judicium to classify and explain international law theory. Another 17th century civil lawyer, Sir Robert Wiseman, in The Excellency o f the Civil Law above all other Human Law glorifies the Roman law as universal law for all nations, applicable to many international debates. One of the most famous British civilians and international law experts, Sir Henry Maine considered the Roman law as an important resource and element of the 19th century doctrine of international law. According to Sir Robert Phillimore, the Roman law could be used in the controversies between independent States. As an example he described the cases between the USA and Spain concerning navigation in the Mississipi River, boundary disputes and arbitration. He proposed application of the Roman law to numerous cases concerning overseas properties.Apart from theory, hundreds of international cases bear traces of successful application of the Roman law to resolve situations when there was no actual law institution to bridge the legal divide. This paper presents five international cases in which an important role was played by Roman law. Arbitration of the Behring Sea dispute in 1893, where the UK and the USA argued about the UK’s right to hunt seals outside the three miles boundary area of the Pribilof s Isles. Both sides used arguments based on Roman law. The Americans view was that seals born on the isles would always return to the shore, not losing animus revertendi of Roman law, thus not becoming res nullius and not subject to „occupation” by the UK fishermen. The British delegates claimed that the seals were born ferae naturae (another Roman law category), and so everyone should be entitled to hunt them.The Alaskan Boundary Tribunal proceedings of 1903 declared that Roman law rules, as a source of international law, should take precedence over the rules of common law.During the Venezuelan arbitration before the Hague Tribunal in 1903, the opponents dealt with many Roman law institutes (like pignus> hypotheca, cessio bonorum, negotiorum gestio and others), trying to adjust them to their actual position.In 1910 the Arbitration Tribunal concerning fishing on the North Atlantic coast allowed the Roman definition of servitude and attempted to treat a state’s territory as a Roman property.The last case dealt with in the paper is the famous Indian Oil Corp. Ltd v. Greenstone Shipping dispute of 1987. The British judge applied the Roman law of confusioy declaring that no previous common law precedent was applicable to this case in which crude oil had been accidentally mixed on board the tanker.Taking into consideration these examples, one may draw the conclusion that Roman law has been an inspiration for European lawyers, as well as English common lawyers, in both the theory and practice of international law.

Hacia fines del siglo xix, los conocimientos científicos que orientaron la investigación y la enseñanza médica en la Universidad de Buenos Aires trazaron un estrecho vínculo con el saber letrado. De la mano de médicos como José Ramos Mejía (1849-1914) o José Ingenieros (1877-1925), la referencia a distintas obras literarias irrumpió en géneros como lecciones, artículos y discursos catedráticos, y estimuló una formación integral del estudiante, que no se limitara a los intereses meramente clínicos. Asimismo, los cuadros patológicos de célebres personajes de ficción se constituyeron como un recurso didáctico para ejemplificar las explicaciones de enfermedades o degeneraciones estudiadas, principalmente, en las áreas de psiquiatría y criminología. Enmarcado en el estudio del discurso médico argentino del período 1890-1910, este artículo se propone analizar la conformación de un ethos culto y letrado, y los modos en que tal imagen fue proyectada para ser reproducida por el auditorio académico. El trabajo se inscribe en las tendencias francesas del Análisis del Discurso y apela a las referencias teórico-metodológicas de Ruth Amossy (Images de soi dans le discours…, L´argumentation dans le discours, “Nueva retórica y lingüística del discurso”) y de Dominique Maingueneau (“Problèmes d´ethos”, Doze conceitos em análise do discurso), concernientes a las categorías de ethos (discursivo y prediscursivo) y auditorio. El corpus de análisis está constituido por algunos enunciados producidos por Ramos Mejía e Ingenieros (tesis, lecciones, artículos médicos). Además, se consideran específicas publicaciones de la Revista del Centro de Estudiantes de Medicina (1901-1909) y de los Archivos de Psiquiatría y Criminología (1902-1914), dos revistas fundantes de la medicina argentina durante esta etapa.
