AbstractThe existence of home advantage (HA) has been found in a variety of team sports including football. There is a paucity of research on the relationship between team ability and HA in domestic football leagues and the findings of previous studies are inconclusive. Using longitudinal data from the top four football divisions in England, this study investigates the influence of team ability on the HA of teams. The data collected for this study spans 24 seasons from 1995/96 to 2018/19 and includes 48,864 matches from the English Premier League (n = 9120), the Championship (n = 13,248), League One (n = 13,248) and League Two (n = 13,248). Team ability was interpreted in two ways: (1) the division in which teams play and (2) their league table position within each division. For both the divisional and positional analysis, HA was calculated as the ratio of home points to total points achieved by teams in each season under review. Evidence of a statistically significant HA was found in all four divisions and for teams of all abilities within each division. Small but statistically significant differences in HA were observed between divisions and between high, moderate and low ability teams within divisions.

Potting of bare-root spring divisions is a simplified approach to ornamental grass production. Large and small divisions of eight common ornamental grasses were directly potted into 7-L nursery containers and grown outdoors for 20 weeks to determine an appropriate division size for each grass. Response to division size was dependent on the grass species. Large divisions of Calamagrostis ×cutiflora `Karl Foerster' (Schräd.) produced twice as many inflorescences as small divisions. At harvest, large divisions of Miscanthus oligostachyus `Purpurascens' (Stapf.) had twice as many inflorescences and 1.5 times as many tillers as small divisions. However, new tiller production in large divisions was only 50% of that in small division plants. Large divisions of Miscanthus sinensis (Anderss.) cultivars produced more tillers and greater fresh and dry weights than did small divisions, but again, the differences were not proportional to the size difference between the initial divisions. Large divisions of Panicum virgatum (L.) produced 50 more tillers per plant than did small divisions, but plant weight, size, and number of inflorescences were not affected by division size. Plants from large divisions of Pennisetum alopecuroides (L.) Spreng. were 7 cm shorter than small divisions and produced 24% more inflorescences and 27% more tillers, but appeared nutrient and/or water stressed. For most grasses, smaller division size is recommended for direct spring potting.

Object. The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to present results and provide management guidelines for various types of sciatic injuries. Methods. Over a 24-year period, 380 patients with sciatic nerve injuries were managed. In 230 patients (60%), the injury was at the buttock level, with injection injuries comprising more than half of these cases. Thigh-level sciatic injury was evaluated in 150 cases (40%) and was usually secondary to one of four main causes: 1) gunshot wound; 2) femur fracture; 3) laceration; or 4) contusion. Patients with partial deficits uncomplicated by severe pain or with significant spontaneous recovery or late referral were managed medically. Surgical exploration was not indicated in 23% of injuries at the thigh level and almost 50% of those at the buttock level. Most of these patients achieved partial but good spontaneous recovery, especially in the tibial division distribution. Surgical intervention was required for more complete and persistent deficits in either the tibial or peroneal distribution. Divisions of the sciatic nerve were split apart and evaluated independently. Management was guided by nerve action potential (NAP) recordings, which indicated whether neurolysis or resection of the lesion was required. Repair was then made by using sutures or more frequently by graft placement. In most cases in which neurolysis was performed because a positive NAP was recorded distal to the lesion, useful function was found in the peroneal distribution. Unfortunately, significant recovery occurred in only 36% of patients who received suture or graft repairs of the peroneal division. Good-to-excellent outcome was common for the tibial division, even in cases in which repair was proximal and required lengthy grafts. The relatively favorable recovery of tibial as opposed to peroneal divisions of the sciatic nerve occurred regardless of the level or mechanism of injury. Conclusions. Surgical exploration and, when necessary, repair of sciatic nerve injuries is worthwhile in selected cases.

How cells maintain their size has been extensively studied under constant conditions. In the wild, however, cells rarely experience constant environments. Here, we examine how the 24-h circadian clock and environmental cycles modulate cell size control and division timings in the cyanobacteriumSynechococcus elongatususing single-cell time-lapse microscopy. Under constant light, wild-type cells follow an apparent sizer-like principle. Closer inspection reveals that the clock generates two subpopulations, with cells born in the subjective day following different division rules from cells born in subjective night. A stochastic model explains how this behavior emerges from the interaction of cell size control with the clock. We demonstrate that the clock continuously modulates the probability of cell division throughout day and night, rather than solely applying an on−off gate to division, as previously proposed. Iterating between modeling and experiments, we go on to identify an effective coupling of the division rate to time of day through the combined effects of the environment and the clock on cell division. Under naturally graded light−dark cycles, this coupling narrows the time window of cell divisions and shifts divisions away from when light levels are low and cell growth is reduced. Our analysis allows us to disentangle, and predict the effects of, the complex interactions between the environment, clock, and cell size control.

Triticum aestivum L. lines introgressed with alien chromosomes create a new genetic background that changes the gene expression of both wheat and donor chromosomes. The genes involved in meiosis regulation are localized on wheat chromosome 3B. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of wheat chromosome 3B substituted with homoeologous rye chromosome 3R on meiosis regulation in disomically substituted wheat line 3R(3B). Employing immunostaining with antibodies against microtubule protein, α-tubulin, and the centromerespecific histone (CENH3), as well as FISH, we analyzed microtubule cytoskeleton dynamics and wheat and rye 3R chromosomes behavior in 3R(3B) (Triticum aestivum L. variety Saratovskaya 29 × Secale cereale L. variety Onokhoiskaya) meiosis. The results revealed a set of abnormalities in the microtubule dynamics and chromosome behavior in both first and second divisions. A feature of metaphase I in 3R(3B) was a decrease in the chiasmata number compared with variety Saratovskaya 29, 34.9 ± 0.62 and 41.92 ± 0.38, respectively. Rye homologs 3R in 13.18 % of meiocytes did not form bivalents. Chromosomes were characterized by varying degrees of compaction; 53.33 ± 14.62 cells lacked a metaphase plate. Disturbances were found in microtubule nucleation at the bivalent kinetochores and in their convergence at the spindle division poles. An important feature of meiosis was the asynchronous chromosome behavior in the second division and dyads at the telophase II in 8–13 % of meiocytes, depending on the anther studied. Considering the 3R(3B) meiotic phenotype, chromosome 3B contains the genes involved in the regulation of meiotic division, and substituting 3B3B chromosomes with rye 3R3R does not compensate for their absence.

In addition, we had a joint session between Div IV and Div V motivated by the proposal to reformulate the division structure of the IAU and the possible merger of the two divisions into a new Div G. The current report gives an account of the matters discussed during the business session of C42.

This study aimed to analyze and compare the match running performance during official matches across four seasons (2015/2016–2018/2019) in the top two professional leagues of Spanish football. Match running performance data were collected from all matches in the First Spanish Division (Santander; n = 1520) and Second Spanish Division (Smartbank; n = 1848), using the Mediacoach® System. Total distance and distances of 14–21 km·h−1, 21–24 km·h−1, and more than 24 km·h−1, and the number of sprints between 21 and 24 km·h−1 and more than 24 km·h−1 were analyzed. The results showed higher total distances in the First Spanish Division than in the Second Spanish Division (p < 0.001) in all the variables analyzed. Regarding the evolution of both leagues, physical demands decreased more in the First Spanish Division than in the Second Spanish Division. The results showed a decrease in total distance and an increase in the high-intensity distances and number of sprints performed, although a clearer trend is perceived in the First Spanish Division (p < 0.001; p < 0.01, respectively). Knowledge about the evolution of match running performance allows practitioners to manage the training load according to the competition demands to improve players’ performances and reduce the injury rate.

A study of the initiation and propagation of cell divisions in the epidermis of flax hypocotyl segments cultured in vitro was made using surface observations (light and scanning electron microscopes) as well as transverse and longitudinal sections. Epidermal cells were of two types: long, narrow cells and short, wide cells. The latter, less numerous, rarely participated in cell division. Nuclear activation and the first mitoses appeared very early (after 4–8 h of culture). Cell division began in isolated cells and spread progressively to surrounding cells arranged transversely. At 24 h, approximately 50 cells in division or newly divided were observed on an epidermal strip of 10 × 2 mm composed of about 8000 original cells. At 48 h, about 110 cells had divided forming 22 division centers; 26 prophase, 10 metaphase, and 7 telophase figures were observed. The mean number of original cells which participated in the formation of a cell division center was three at 12 h, five at 72 h, with no increase thereafter. The percentage of cells in mitosis or already divided remained low (1.9%) in relation to the total number of epidermal cells. For 22 division centers, only 7 would participate in vegetative bud formation.

An Arabidopsis sterol mutant, smt2 smt3, defective in sterolmethyltransferase2 (SMT2), exhibits severe growth abnormalities. The loss of C-24 ethyl sterols, maintaining the biosynthesis of C-24 methyl sterols and brassinosteroids, suggests specific roles of C-24 ethyl sterols. We characterized the subcellular localizations of fluorescent protein-fused sterol biosynthetic enzymes, such as SMT2-GFP, and found these enzymes in the endoplasmic reticulum during interphase and identified their movement to the division plane during cytokinesis. The mobilization of endoplasmic reticulum-localized SMT2-GFP was independent of the polarized transport of cytokinetic vesicles to the division plane. In smt2 smt3, SMT2-GFP moved to the abnormal division plane, and unclear cell plate ends were surrounded by hazy structures from SMT2-GFP fluorescent signals and unincorporated cellulose debris. Unusual cortical microtubule organization and impaired cytoskeletal function accompanied the failure to determine the cortical division site and division plane formation. These results indicated that both endoplasmic reticulum membrane remodeling and cytokinetic vesicle transport during cytokinesis were impaired, resulting in the defects of cell wall generation. The cell wall integrity was compromised in the daughter cells, preventing the correct determination of the subsequent cell division site. We discuss the possible roles of C-24 ethyl sterols in the interaction between the cytoskeletal network and the plasma membrane.

Implementation of operational risk management on the object property is very important in order to improve the quality of service so that the tenants more comfortable so that they continue to rent the premises. There are four divisions that are in direct contact with the occupants of the building that affect the quality of service that is division Tenant Relations, Engineering, Housekeeping and Security, therefore researchers interested in conducting research with the aim of knowing the operational risks of the building on the division Tenant Relations, Engineering, housekeeping and security and want to know the relationship of the four divisions with the quality of service. This research was conducted in PT.UOB PROPERTY with UOB Plaza building in Jakarta with population of 35 tenants and taken sample 25 respondents by using direct study in field and literature study, while to know the relationship of the four divisions with Spss 24 by using sample random sampling technique with 25 respondents. From the analysis results, there are operational risks with risk classification and low, medium and high impact in the TR (x1), Engineering (x2), Housekeeping (x3) and Security (x4) divisions.The results of the data using Spss 24 generated regression model Y = 0.353x1 + 0.585x2 + 0.567x3 - 0.040x4 - 3.621 and based on F test results that variable div.TR, Eng, HK, and div. Security variables simultaneously affect the variable the quality of the service, or by looking at the computation of F arithmetic with F table, from table F obtained data F table of 2.759, while F arithmetic of 43,070 thus F table (2.759) <F count (43.070) or F count (43.070)> F table (2.759) so that it can be concluded independent variable (X) div TR, Engineering, Housekeeping and Security simultaneously together affect the quality of service (Y), while based on test results t only engineering division (x2) , while for division Tenant relation, Housekeeping and security have no relation with service of quality.

Toxoplasmosis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by T. gondii, an obligate intracellular apcomplexan zoonotic parasite that is geographically worldwide in distribution. The parasite infects humans and all warm-blooded animals and is highly prevalent in various geographical regions of the world, including Pakistan. The current study addressee prevalence of Toxoplasma infection in women in various geographical regions, mapping of endemic division and t district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province through geographical information system (GIS) in order to locate endemic regions, monitor seasonal and annual increase in prevalence of infection in women patients. Setting: Tertiary hospitals and basic health care centers located in 7 divisions and 24 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province of Pakistan. During the current study, 3586 women patients from 7 divisions and 24 districts were clinically examined and screened for prevalence of T. gondii infection. Participants were screened for Toxoplasma infection using ICT and latex agglutination test (LAT) as initial screening assay, while iELISA (IgM, IgG) was used as confirmatory assay. Mapping of the studied region was developed by using ArcGIS 10.5. Spatial analyst tools were applied by using Kriging/Co-kriging techniques, followed by IDW (Inverse Distance Weight) techniques. Overall prevalence of T. gondii infection was found in 881 (24.56%) patients. A significant (<0.05) variation was found in prevalence of infection in different divisions and districts of the province. Prevalence of infection was significantly (<0.05) high 129 (30.07%) in Kohat Division, followed by 177 (29.06%), 80 (27.87%), 287 (26.72%), 81 (21.21%), 47 (21.07%), and 80 (13.71%) cases in Hazara Division, D.I Khan Division, Malakand Division, Mardan Division, Bannu Division, and Peshawar Division. Among various districts, a significant variation (<0.05) was found in prevalence of infection. Prevalence of infection was significantly (<0.05) high 49 (44.95%) in district Karak, while low (16 (10.81%) in district Nowshera. No significant (>0.05) seasonal and annual variation was found in prevalence of Toxoplasma infection. LAT, ICT and ELISA assays were evaluated for prevalence of infection, which significantly (<0.05) detected T. gondii antibodies. LAT, ICT and ELISA assays significantly (<0.05) detected infection, while no significant (>0.05) difference was found between positivity of LAT and ICT assays. A significant difference (<0.05) was found in positivity of Toxoplasma-specific (IgM), (IgG) and (IgM, IgG) immunoglobulin by ICT and ELISA assay. The current study provides comprehensive information about geographical distribution, seasonal and annual variation of Toxoplasmosis infection in various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Infection of T. gondii in women shows an alarming situation of disease transmission from infected animals in the studied region, which is not only a serious and potential threat for adverse pregnancy outcomes, but also cause socioeconomic burden and challenges for various public and animal health organizations in Pakistan and across the country.

Introduction. Mentoring relationships have been shown to support academicians in areas of research, work/life balance, and promotion.Methods. General pediatric division chiefs accessed an electronic survey asking about mentorship relationships, their ability to create a mentorship program, and resources needed.Results. Dyadic mentorship programs were available at 53% of divisions. Peer mentorship programs were available at 27% of divisions. Overall, 84% of chiefs believed that dyadic mentorship would benefit their faculty. 91% of chiefs believed that peer mentorship would benefit their faculty. Chiefs were interested in starting peer (57%) or dyadic (55%) mentorship programs. Few divisions had a peer mentorship program available, whereas 24% already had a dyadic program. 43% of chiefs felt that they had the tools to start a program. Many tools are needed to create a program.Discussion. General pediatric division chiefs acknowledge the benefits of mentoring relationships, and some have programs in place. Many need tools to create them. Pediatric societies could facilitate this critical area of professional development.

Background: Thiodiacetic acid (TDAA) is the main metabolite of vinyl chloride (VC) and 1,2-dichloroethane (EDC) and its urinary level is correlated with the level of exposure to these chemicals. Objective: To study dynamics of the excretion of TDAA into urine of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) production workers. Methods: The study sample consisted of 65 workers of VC and PVC divisions with various time intervals following exposure to the chemicals, 10 shift workers from PVC division, and 34 workers not exposed to the chemicals (control group). Analysis of urinary TDAA was carried out with gas chromatography with mass-selective detector. Results: The concentrations of TDAA in the urine of workers of the VC division and in group of primary occupations who had a high level of exposure to the chemicals, were significantly (p<0.05) higher than that of workers of the PVC production division and group of auxiliary professions. The highest levels of TDAA in the urine of workers were found at the beginning of the next shift and during a long break, 24–48 hours after the cessation of the exposure. Conclusion: When conducting biomonitoring studies in PVC production workers, the optimal time for collecting urine samples is at the beginning of the next shift or during a long rest, 24–48 hours after the exposure.

Context: Research suggests that women do not pursue leadership positions in athletic training due to a variety of reasons, including family challenges, organizational constraints, and reluctance to hold the position. The literature has been focused on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I setting, limiting our full understanding. Objective: To examine factors that help women as they worked toward the position of head athletic trainer. Design: Qualitative study. Setting: Divisions II and III. Patients or Other Participants: Seventy-seven women who were employed as head athletic trainers at the Division II or III level participated in our study. Participants were 38 ± 9 (range = 24−57) years old and had an average of 14 ± 8 (range = 1−33) years of athletic training experience. Data Collection and Analysis: We conducted online interviews. Participants journaled their reflections to a series of open-ended questions pertaining to their experiences as head athletic trainers. Data were analyzed using a general inductive approach. Credibility was secured by peer review and researcher triangulation. Results: Three organizational facilitators emerged from the data, workplace atmosphere, mentors, and past work experiences. These organizational factors were directly tied to aspects within the athletic trainer's employment setting that allowed her to enter the role. One individual-level facilitator was found: personal attributes that were described as helpful for women in transitioning to the role of the head athletic trainer. Participants discussed being leaders and persisting toward their career goals. Conclusions: Women working in Divisions II and III experience similar facilitators to assuming the role of head athletic trainer as those working in the Division I setting. Divisions II and III were viewed as more favorable for women seeking the role of head athletic trainer, but like those in the role in the Division I setting, women must have leadership skills.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues heavy rainfall warning for a meteorological sub-division when the expected 24 hours rainfall over any rain gauge station in that sub-division is likely to be 64.5 mm or more. Though these warnings have been provided since the inception of IMD, a few attempts have been made for quantitative evaluation of these warnings. Hence, a study is undertaken to verify the heavy rainfall warnings over 36 meteorological sub-divisions of India during monsoon months (June-September) and season as a whole. For this purpose, data of recent 5 years (2002-2006) has been taken into consideration. In this connection, the day when heavy rainfall is recorded over at least one station in a sub-division, has been considered as a heavy rainfall day for that sub-division. There is a large spatial and temporal variability in skill scores of heavy rainfall warnings over India during summer monsoon season. Considering the monsoon season as a whole, the Heidke Skill Score (HSS) is relatively less (<0.20) over the regions with less frequent heavy rainfall like Lakshadweep, southeast peninsula, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura (NMMT). It is higher (> 0.50) over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat region. There has been improvement in the forecast skill with gradual increase in the critical success index and Heidke skill score over the years mainly due to the Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models' guidance available to the forecasters. However, the false alarm rate and missing rate are still very high (> 0.50), especially over many sub-divisions of northwest India, southeast peninsula and NMMT.

Circadian oscillators are known to regulate the timing of cell division in many organisms. In the case of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, however, this conclusion has been challenged by several investigators. We have reexamined this issue and find that the division behavior of Chlamydomonas meets all the criteria for circadian rhythmicity: persistence of a cell division rhythm (a) with a period of approximately 24 h under free-running conditions, (b) that is temperature compensated, and (c) which can entrain to light/dark signals. In addition, a mutation that lengthens the circadian period of the phototactic rhythm similarly affects the cell division rhythm. We conclude that a circadian mechanism determines the timing of cell division in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

Tujuan dalam penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Student Teams Achievement Division terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam materi macam-macam sumber energi di SD Negeri 88 Palembang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu penelitian kuantitatif. Hasil dari pelaksanaan penelitian ini diperoleh dari siswa kelas IV SD Negeri 88 Palembang dengan jumlah siswa 48 siswa, pada kelas eksperimen sebanyak 24 siswa dan pada kelas kontrol sebanyak 24 siswa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan memberi perlakuan menerapkan model pembelajaran Student Teams Achievement Division lebih baik dibandingkan pembelajaran yang diberi perlakuan dengan model pembelajaran konvensional. Berdasarkan hasil observasi aktivitas siswa pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol terdapat perbedaan, dimana kelas eksperimen dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Student Team Achievement Division lebih aktif dengan hasil observasi sebesar 90,4% kategori sangat aktif dibandingkan pada kelas kontrol yang menggunakan model pembelajaran konvensional dengan hasil observasi sebesar 46,1% kategori kurang aktif.

Inoculation by bacterial infiltration of germinating wheat seeds with 106–108 colony-forming units of the beneficial rhizosphere bacteria, Azospirillum brasilense Cd, significantly increased cell division in root tips during germination. The phenomenon occurred mainly in the second wave, i.e., 24 h after inoculation, of cell division in the meristem. Seed inoculation significantly enlarged the elongation zone of their roots. These inoculation effects suggest that the larger root system, which is usually observed in inoculated plants, may originate in part from the enhancement of cell division and the intensive growth of the elongation zone of seminal roots. Key words: Azospirillium, beneficial bacteria, bacteria–root interaction, cell division, rhizosphere bacteria, root growth.

Introduction: PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero) is a state-owned company in the shipping industry. For running the production cycle, PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero) has several divisions. One of them is the Maintenance and Repair Division. This division involves workers with positions as technicians and managers who have different tasks and functions. These differences will result in unequal physical workloads. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in the physical workload of technicians and managers of the Maintenance and Repair Division of PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero). Methods: This study used an analytic observational method with a cross sectional design. The independent variable used in this research was the position of workers consisting of managers and technician staff. Meanwhile, the dependent variable was a physical workload. The research respondents were 24 technicians and 6 managers. Data were obtained through questionnaires and calorimeters to measure calorie needs. Results: The technicians were aged 20 - 33 years old (62.5%), and the managers were aged 48 - 61 years (83.3%). Technicians' nutritional status was categorized as normal, as many as 21 people and the nutritional status of managers was overweight, as many as 4 people. The physical workload of technicians was in the medium category, as many as 22 people and 5 managers had a moderate physical workload. Conclusion: There was no difference in the physical workload of technicians and managers of the Maintenance and Repair Division. This is because PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero) has implemented cooperation in job completion.

Seaweeds (macroalgae) are a marine biological resource that have an important role in aquatic ecosystems and for society. The aim of this research was to determine community of seaweeds in Cemara Beach, East Lombok Regency.Data were collected at four observation points using a method of combinationof the line transect and quadrat. Seaweeds community data were analyzed using density parameters, important values, species diversity index, and species evenness index. The similarity percentage between transects was determined based on the Bray-Curtis cluster analysis using biodiversity program-version 2. In Cemara Beach there were 24 species of macroalgae which memberof 3 divisions, 11 orders and 15 families. Chlorophyta was a division with highest number of species. The number of species for Chlorophyta was 14 species, Rhodophyta division was 7 species, and Phaeophyta division 3 species. The species with highest density is Enteromorpha sp.,25.1 clumps/m2. Ulva lactuca is the species with the highest important value (72.69%). Diversity and evenness index in Cemara Beach seaweed species were 1,868 (medium category) and 0,699 (almost evenly distributed).The results of cluster analysis based on environmental parameters, species similarity and number of clumps of seaweed species, diversity index, and species evenness index indicate that seaweed in Cemara Beach can generally be divided into 2 groups.

Abstract OBJECTIVE With the use of data from 3 Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) publications, various parameters for buttock/thigh-level sciatic nerve and tibial and common peroneal divisions/nerve injuries were summarized, and outcomes were compared. METHODS Data from 806 buttock/thigh-level sciatic nerve and tibial and common peroneal division/nerve injury repairs were summarized. Lesion types, repair techniques, and outcomes were compared. RESULTS Acute lacerations undergoing suture repair were best for the thigh-then-buttock-level tibial (93%/73%) and then same-level common peroneal divisions (69%/30%); at the knee level, tibial outcomes (100%) were better than those for the common peroneal nerve (CPN) (84%). Secondary graft repairs for lacerations had good outcomes for the thigh-then-buttock-level tibial (80%/62%), followed by common peroneal divisions at the same levels (45%/24%). The knee/leg-level tibial nerve (94%) did better than the CPN (40%) here. In-continuity lesions with positive intraoperative nerve action potentials underwent neurolysis with better results for the thigh-then-buttock-level tibial division (95%/86%) than for same-level CPN (78%/69%). The knee/leg-level tibial nerve did better than the CPN (95%/93%). CONCLUSION Better recovery of buttock- and thigh-level tibial division/nerve occurs because: 1) the CPN is lateral and thus vulnerable to a more severe injury; 2) the tibial nerve is more elastic at impact owing to its singular-fixation site (the CPN has a dual fixation); 3) the tibial nerve has a better blood supply and regeneration; 4) the tibial nerve has a higher force-absorbing fascicle/connective tissue count than the CPN; and 5) the tibial nerve-innervated gastrocnemius soleus requires less reinnervation for functional contraction than deep peroneal branches, which innervate long, thin extensor muscles at multiple sites and require coordinated nerve input for effective contraction.

Abstract Maintaining T cell function after ex vivo manipulation remains a major challenge in adoptive immunotherapy. We previously showed that murine T cells activated ex vivo with anti-CD3 and anti-CD28 antibody-coated magnetic beads (CD3/CD28 beads) retain greater GVHD-inducing potential than cells activated with either soluble anti-CD3 antibody alone or plate bound anti-CD3 and anti-CD28 antibodies after allogeneic BMT. However, CD3/CD28 bead activated T cells still exhibit reduced GVHD-inducing potential compared to naïve T cells. In this study, we used CFSE and congenic mice to monitor the proliferative kinetics of naïve and CD3/CD28 bead activated, transduced, and selected T cells in the same mouse after allogeneic and syngeneic BMT. High efficiency (>50%) gene transfer of our chimeric suicide gene, CD34/TK, into C57BL/6 (B6) murine T cells was achieved 24 h after CD3/CD28 bead activation and gene-modified cells were purified to >98% by CD34 immunomagnetic selection 48 h later. CD34/TK+ T cells were then rested for 3 days in medium containing 10 U/mL IL-2. Purified CD34/TK+ (CD45.1+) and naïve (CD45.2+) T cells from B6 mice were then labeled with CFSE, mixed 1/1 (3e6 total T cells), and injected, along with T cell depleted B6 (CD45.1+) BM, into lethally irradiated allogeneic (BALB/c, CD45.2+) or syngeneic (B6, CD45.2+) recipients. Mice were sacrificed daily up to 6 days after BMT to assess donor T cell engraftment, division, and phenotype by five color flow cytometry. The CD34/TK+ donor T cells (both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells) underwent 1–2 rounds of division within 24 h after infusion. In contrast, <5% of the naïve T cells divided during the first 24 h after infusion. Thereafter, the CD34/TK+ and naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells exhibited similar division kinetics between days 1 and 4 after BMT. At 3 days after BMT, both CD34/TK+ and naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells were detected in the 8 cell divisions discernible by CFSE, with approximately equal percentages (5%–15%) of cells in each division cycle. However, virtually all of the CD34/TK+ and naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells had divided more than 7 times by day 4 after allogeneic BMT. In contrast, <10% of the CD34/TK+ or naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells had undergone more than 7 cell divisions in the syngeneic recipients. Interestingly, the CD34/TK+ T cells exhibited a dramatic decrease in expansion compared with the naïve T cells between days 4 and 6 after allogeneic BMT. Although ~ equal percentages of CD34/TK+ and naïve T cells were observed 4 days after infusion, >6-fold and 10-fold more naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, respectively, were detected in the allogeneic recipients at day 6 after BMT. This effect was specific to the allogeneic response, because we observed no difference in expansion between the CD34/TK+ and naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in the syngeneic recipients. Phenotypically, both the CD34/TK+ and naïve CD4+ and CD8+ cells upregulated CD25 expression after 4 divisions, upregulated CD69 and CD44 expression after 1 to 2 divisions, and downregulated CD62L expression. In summary, CD3/CD28 bead activated, transduced, and selected T cells exhibit decreased expansion compared to naïve T cells after injection into allogeneic recipients. Ongoing studies are evaluating whether this decrease in expansion is caused by activation induced cell death, altered trafficking, or a decrease in the proliferative capacity of the ex vivo manipulated cells.

Анотація:

The bryophyte component of the meadow phytocoenoses of the Romensko-Poltava geobotanical district is characterized in this study. The research revealed that the meadow phytocoenoses of Ukraine consist of 39 species of mosses, belonging to two divisions, three classes, six orders, 14 families, and 26 genera. The division Marchantiophyta is represented by one class, one order, two families, and two genera. The division Bryophyta is represented by two classes, five orders, 12 families, 24 genera, and 36 species. The richest families in terms of species diversity are Amblystegiaceae and Pottiaceae (each containing six species), and Plagiomniaceae (with five species). The genera in the bryoflora spectrum are predominantly monospecific or bispecific. Only two genera, Brachythecium and Plagiomnium, are represented by five species each. The meadow bryoflora is characterized by the prevalence of species with life forms such as low cushions, tall cushions, and mats. The ecological-biological structure of the bryoflora is characterized by the dominance of shade-tolerant mosses and heliophytes. Among hygromorphs, hygromesophytes and mesophytes prevail, while among trophomorphs, mesotrophs, mesoeutrophs, and eutrophs are dominant.

Object. This is a retrospective analysis of 353 surgically treated sciatic nerve lesions in which injury mechanisms, location, time to surgical repair, surgical techniques, and functional outcomes are reported. Results are presented to provide guidelines for management of these injuries. Methods. One hundred seventy-five patients with buttock-level and 178 with thigh-level sciatic nerve injury were surgically treated at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center between 1968 and 1999. Buttock-level injury mechanisms included injection in 64 patients, hip fracture/dislocation in 26, contusion in 22, compression in 19, gunshot wound (GSW) in 17, hip arthroplasty in 15, and laceration in 12; at the thigh level, GSW was the cause in 62 patients, femoral fracture in 34, laceration in 32, contusion in 28, compression in 12, and iatrogenic injury in 10. Patients with sciatic nerve divisions in which positive intraoperative nerve action potentials (NAPs) were found underwent neurolysis and attained at least Grade 3 functional outcomes in 108 (87%) of 124 and in 91 (96%) of 95 buttock- and thigh-level tibial divisions, respectively, compared with 84 (71%) of 119 and 75 (79%) of 95, respectively, in the peroneal divisions. For suture repair, recovery to at least Grade 3 occurred in eight (73%) of 11 buttock-level and in 27 (93%) of 29 thigh-level tibial division injuries, and in three (30%) of 10 buttock-level and 20 (69%) of 29 thigh-level peroneal division lesions. For graft repair, good recovery occurred in 21 (62%) of 34 and in 43 (80%) of 54 buttock- and thigh-level tibial divisions, respectively, even in proximal repairs requiring long grafts, and in only nine (24%) of 37 and 22 (45%) of 49 buttock- and thigh-level peroneal division lesions, respectively. Conclusions. Surgical exploration and neurolysis after positive NAP readings, or repair with sutures or grafts after negative NAP results are worthwhile in selected cases.

Анотація:

This prospective study was conducted on 24 North Indian subjects (10 Control and 14 Twin-block) to evaluate the skeletal and dentoalveolar effects of Twin-block appliance in the treatment of Class II division 1 malocclusion. The result of the present study showed that Twin-block is an effective appliance in accelerating mandibular growth. It also helped dramatically in molar correction and overjet reduction in Class II division 1 malocclusion subjects.
