The grain quality in rice is extremely important for breeding programs, in order to select lines that meet the standards demanded by the market. The quality attribute is composed by several characteristics, which can make difficult the work for breeder. Thus, the objective in this study was to verify the efficiency of the selection indexes in order to select upland rice lines that meet the grain quality standards. Fourteen lines of the Cultivation and Use Value test (CUV) of the upland rice breeding program of the Federal University of Lavras were evaluated. The experiments were conducted in the municipalities of Lavras-MG and Lambari-MG in the seasons of 2015/2016 and 2016/2017. The experimental was a randomized block design with three replications. The following characteristics were evaluated to compose the indexes: grain yield, minimum cooking time, water absorption index, grain chalkiness, integer grain percentage, grain length and width, apparent amylose content and gelatinization temperature. The following selection indexes were compared: Base index of Willians, Sum of “Ranks” of Mulamb and Mock, and Index Sum of Standardized Variables (Z Index) and also was held direct selection through grain yield. It was observed that the Base index obtained good gains with the selection for grain yield, but it was inefficient for the quality characteristics, results when used direct selection. The Ranks and Z index obtained superior and balanced gains for the characteristics, showing up more efficient in the selection of upland rice lines aiming at the quality of grains.

In this work authors offers the list of the generalized requirements (or criteria) for indexes of assessment. Requirements can be applied during the development and the analysis of assessment indexes for programs and projects of evolution and performance of the Russian Federation regardless of exact subject domain. Based on authors experience in the field of various assessment techniques development, compliance to the listed requirements allows to improve interpretability of assessment indexes which, in turn, increases also their usefulness. Besides, in particular circumstances the concept of "quality of an index of assessment" can be expressed through the fact of compliance to the offered requirements (for example, direct calculation of requirements to which the index conforms) that can be the useful, for example, when choosing one "best" index of assessment from several alternatives. The offered list of requirements, certainly, isn't single valid one, and article pursues rather the purpose to open a topic for discussion, than to answer the question posed exhaustively.

In order to optimize the electric energy quality of HVDC access point, a modular multilevel selective harmonic elimination pulse-width modulation (MSHE-PWM) method is proposed. On the basis of keeping the minimum action frequency of the power device, MSHE-PWM method can meet the requirement for accurately eliminating low-order harmonics in the output PWM waveform. Firstly, establish the basic mathematical model of MMC topology and point out the voltage balance control principle of single modules; then, analyze offline gaining principle and realization way of MSHEPWM switching angle; finally, verify MSHE-PWM control performance on the basis of MMC reactive power compensation experimental prototype. The experimental result shows that the proposed MSHE-PWM method can meet such performance indexes as low switching frequency and no lower-order harmonics, and has verified the feasibility and effectiveness thereof for optimizing the electric energy quality of HVDC access point.

The quality of information from communication media is a topic that has been dealt with by various theorists through the analysis of the final products of information. This research work offers an analysis model of the quality of information of printed news media by the use of three indexes of categories and structured dimensions that will allow for the assessment and evaluation of the quality of information from the media, and the identification of the incidence of political-economic conditions of the journalistic environment’s macro-environment. For this, an experimental test of two Venezuelan media outlets was performed. Their use allowed us to conclude that political polarization and discourse of social confrontation, as well as economic factors such as inflation and pay scales had a proportionally direct effect on the quality of information products.

The stability and convergence time become an essential factor in network availability performance. Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is one of the Virtual Private Network (VPN) technologies that can support the quality of communication media on the high-speed backbone network. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the proper protocol routing in espousing VPN technology based on MPLS supported by direct-link backup to improve network availability in the Data Center. The purpose of this study is comparing the convergence time and Quality of Service (QoS) among the three IGP protocols routing, namely Routing Information Protocol version 2 (RIP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) based on two autonomous system number using Ring topology design between Data Center and DRC. Network scenario is created using the Graphic Network Simulator (GNS3) application to measure convergence time and QoS parameters of the three protocols routing and the use of MPLS-TE and RR in enhancing MPLS backbone performance. The results revealed that QoS in the three protocols routing has a good quality level according to TIPHON’s standard with the number of indexes up to 3.25 (Good). On the other hand, the fastest convergence time when interruption on the main link (VPN) is EIGRP with convergence time for about 15 seconds.

Avian cell culture is widely applied for cytogenetic studies, the improvement of which increasingly allows for the production of high-quality chromosomes, essential to perform both classical and molecular cytogenetic studies. Among these approaches, there are two main types: fibroblast and bone marrow culture. Despite its high cost and complexity, fibroblast culture is considered the superior approach due to the quality of the metaphases produced. Short-term bone marrow cultivation provides more condensed chromosomes but nonetheless is quicker and easier. In the search for a quicker, cheaper way to prepare metaphases without losing quality, the present work developed a novel, widely applicable protocol for avian chromosome preparation. Twenty-one bird embryos from distinct families were sampled: Icteridae, Columbidae, Furnariidae, Estrildidae, Thraupidae, Troglodytidae and Ardeidae. The protocol was based on a combination of modified fibroblast culture and bone marrow cultivation, taking the advantages of both. The results show that all species consistently presented good mitotic indexes and high-quality chromosomes. Overall, the application of this protocol for bird cytogenetics can optimize the time, considering that most fibroblast cultures take at least 3 days and often much longer. However, our protocol can be performed in 3 h with a much-reduced cost of reagents and equipment.

The present inquiry arises as a result of a constant search of problems that affect cities of the country, by the Hotbed of Investigation of Surcolombian Socioeconomic Studies HISSS, of the Surcolombiana University of Neiva (Colombia) -.In this way, we found those factors and actions that contribute to making Bogotá, Medellin, Barranquilla, Neiva, Tunja and Cúcuta, cities that the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development through the urban environmental quality indexes (UEQUI) categorizes, at medium, low and very low levels. A methodology was developed that projects positivist and qualitative investigation, corresponding to a descriptive and explanatory study of the environmental sustainability of the cities is obtained from factors such as: public space; green areas; environmental pollution; mobility, public transport. The results obtained are of a relevant nature because they show old direct effects on the quality of life of the inhabitants, so that from them, alternative solutions are interpreted and proposed

The model for updating marginal cost pricing by overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) indexes as well as P*A*Q under existing market tough competition. Motivation/Background: When production capacity is constant and the AC curve is higher than the MC curve, AC pricing can be employed. Because of market competition, businesses producing in small quantities and low diversity use MC pricing. To reduce the risk to profit, a novel cost pricing mechanism can be adopted by using the unit DC of MC to correspond to the OEE under Areeda-Turner Rule. Method: The correspondence of the OEE with the unit direct cost (DC) is deduced and verified in this paper by calculating the quotient found by dividing the OEE indexes by unit DC as conditional as Bill of Material (BOM) cost. Results: Research findings revealed a positive alert for timely updating pricing between average cost (AC) pricing and marginal cost (MC) pricing. Conclusions: This approach reflects the dynamic game in a timely manner. The OEE comprises the performance, availability, and quality indexes. These three indexes reconcile the unit DC pricing, and using MC in optimization of marginal revenue (MR). In practice, shop floor management measures key indexes of idleness and loss; the objective is to eliminate laggard and static pricing problem. This realizes dynamic examination of cost difference of the BOM cost pool. One case study is employed to explain the MC pricing strategy in industry.

Health-related quality of life is frequently included in patient-reported outcomes aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of disease-modifying drugs for multiple sclerosis, but recent data about Italian patients are missing. A multicenter observational and cross-sectional study was performed by students of hospital pharmacy to update existing data on quality of life and to correlate it with the pharmacological and medical history of patients. Quality of life (QoL) was assessed using the MS-QoL54 questionnaire, and the pharmacist collected patients’ characteristics, medical and pharmacological history, and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS). Three hundred and forty-nine patients with multiple sclerosis were recruited from 16 centers between May 2018 and June 2019 (median age = 44.1 years; 68.9% women). The composite indexes of physical and mental well-being showed direct correlation with each other (R = 0.826; p < 0.001), and EDSS disability was an independent negative predictor of both indexes (R2 = 35.08% p < 0.001 and R2 = 15.74% p < 0.001, respectively). A trend of association between Physical Health Composite Score and different classes of oral disease-modifying drugs (DMDs) was observed. Our study found a decrease in QoL correlated with teriflunomide, which deserves further investigation. This experience demonstrates that joint action between scientific society and students association can be successful in conducting a no-profit multicenter observational study in a real-world setting.

To assess the quality of health care, patient outcomes associated with medical providers are routinely monitored in order to identify poor (or excellent) provider performance. To avoid confounding by risk factors, both indirect and direct standardization have been used for comparing outcome rates or prevalence for different providers. There has been an ongoing debate as to which standardization method is more appropriate. To compare the performance of indirect and direct standardization for the purpose of ranking transplant centers, we analyzed post-transplant mortality using the national kidney transplant data. Included in our analysis were 116,601 patients (from 230 transplant centers) who underwent kidney transplantation between January 2006 and December 2012. Multivariate logistic regression model was used to model the 30-day mortality, which were estimates of failures (grant failure or death) in the 30 days after the transplant surgery. Concordance indexes, kappa coefficients and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient were computed. The estimated values from these statistics for the indirect standardized method were similar to the direct standardization. The results suggest that both indirect and direct standardized methods provide similar ability to distinguish center effects.

Fruit maturity stage has direct influence on the post-harvest life and consumer quality. Therefore, the understanding of the maturation process and its quality characteristics for storage are key factors for commercialization. In face of the foregoing, this study aimed to determine shelf life and changes in physical and chemical indexes of cherry tomatoes (Perinha Água Branca (PAB) and Mascot), assessing fruit harvested at four maturity stages and stored at ambient and controlled temperatures. For this, it was used fruit at turning, pink, red and ripe maturity stages, submitted to ambient (25 ± 2 °C) and controlled (12 °C and 90% RH) temperature, and assessed over time the indexes of fresh mass loss, titratable acidity, pH, soluble solids and ascorbic acid. The experimental design was completely randomized design in a factorial scheme of 2×4×7 for ambient temperature and 2×4×8 for controlled temperature. At ambient temperature, a longevity of up to 20 days was observed for PAB and Mascot fruit harvested at turning and pink maturity stages. When harvested at red and ripe stages, the longevity was of 15 days for PAB fruit and of 15 and 11 days, respectively, for Mascot fruit. At controlled temperature, PAB fruit showed longevity of 24 days when harvested at turning and pink stages and of 20 and 7 days, respectively, when harvested at red and ripe stages. A longevity of up to 27 days was observed for Mascot fruit harvested at turning stage and of 24 days for the other stages. The fruit harvested at turning and pink maturity stages, associated with storage under controlled conditions, presented higher longevity and maintenance of physical and chemical indexes of quality.

In the light of rapidly increasing applications of large-eddy simulations (LES), it is deemed necessary to impose some quality assessment measures for such studies. The verification of LES calculations is difficult because of the fact that both the subgrid scale (SGS) model contribution and numerical discretization errors are functions of the grid resolution. In this study, various indexes of quality measures, hereafter referred to as LES̱IQ, are proposed. The recommended LES̱IQ is based on the Richardson extrapolation concept. This method has been applied to various cases and the calculated LES̱IQ results are compared with the relative total experimental and direct numerical simulation (DNS) error, defined as IQ̱EX and IQ̱DNS, respectively. It is postulated that in practical applications of LES, numerical dissipation will always be a significant part of the overall dissipation, and it must be accounted for in any assessment of the quality of LES. It is further suggested that LES̱IQ of 75% to 85% can be considered adequate for most engineering applications that typically occur at high Reynolds numbers; the proposed index is an indicator of good resolution (i.e., verification), but not necessarily a good or accurate model (i.e., validation).

Profilographs have traditionally been the tool of choice for measurement of newly constructed pavement roughness. Although only a modest relationship exists between profilograph output and ride quality, the construction industry has been reluctant to consider other methods of measurement. In part, this is because a well-established method exists for using a profilograph trace to pinpoint locations that require diamond grinding. In contrast, inertial profilers offer a way to obtain measurements with proven relevance to ride quality and overall pavement performance via analysis by ride quality indexes. A major drawback to using a ride quality index, as cited by the construction industry, is the lack of a method for pinpointing hot spots in pavement that should be corrected by a diamond grinder. A method for locating isolated rough spots on new pavement and a basis for prioritizing the use of a grinder to improve new pavement smoothness by using the inertial profiler output are presented. Rough spots are identified by using an adapted version of the roughness profile, called continuous reporting of ride quality. Isolated irregularities are located by reporting a ride quality index on all possible road segments of a given length. The rough spots located by this method provide a direct snapshot of where events that penalize the overall ride quality most occurred on the pavement. This snapshot provides the road builder feedback that can be used to examine the paving process. A diamond grinding simulation is used to ensure that corrective action is implemented only at locations where a grinder would actually improve ride quality.

<p>The purpose of the present study was to offer predictive model of happiness on the basis of positive psychology constructs. It is among correlational studies through applying causal modeling. The statistical population of the study included BA students at the University of Isfahan and Industrial University. A sample of 420 individuals was selected via multi-stage clustered random sampling method. The measurement instruments included Oxford’s happiness questionnaire (Argyle, 1989), psychological well-being (Ryff, 1989), quality of life (Cummins, 1997), Polotzin and Elison’s spiritual Well-Being (1982) and Bar-On’s Emotional Intelligence (2000). The data were analyzed through Amos22 software. Results showed that the model with supposed indexes owned an appropriate goodness of fit. The results implied that the greatest amount of variance of happiness is explained by the direct effect of quality of life and indirect effect of emotional intelligence with mediating of quality of life. The direct effect of emotional intelligence with mediating psychological wellbeing and indirect effect of emotional intelligence on happiness with mediating spiritual wellbeing explains the variable of happiness at medium level. Finally the role of positive psychology constructs especially quality of life and emotional intelligence is confirmed in happiness and the results state the importance of positive psychology constructs in happiness.</p>

Abstract The features of the data distribution can significantly affect the composite characteristics of objects, so composite indexes of objects must necessarily take into account the features of the data. Some types of data are characterized by distributions with a significant anomaly, when the vast majority of observations are concentrated near the boundary values. This type of data cannot always be characterized by an asymmetry coefficient. In addition, if the values of a variable are approximately symmetric with respect to zero or are concentrated near zero, the sample cannot also be characterized by the coefficient of variation. The paper proposes a transformation that allows us to identify the anomalous nature of variables using the signal-to-noise ratio. Variables are evaluated in the standard range, which is shifted to the right relative to zero. If it is necessary to logarithm, such a transformation will avoid the pressure of small values of variables that, after direct logarithm, would have large negative values. The application of logarithmic correction for the detected anomalous variables redistributes the values of the obtained weighting coefficients in the direction of a more correct interpretation and, in particular, solves the problem with the negativity of the weighting coefficients.

Background. A preference-based quality-of-life index for non–small cell lung cancer was developed with a subset of Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT)–General (G) and FACT–Lung (L) items, based on clinician input and the literature. Design. A total of 236 non–small cell lung carcinoma patients contributed their preferences, randomly allocated among three survey groups to decrease burden. The FACT-L Utility Index (FACT-LUI) was constructed with two methods: 1) multiattribute utility theory (MAUT), where a visual analog scale (VAS)–based index was transformed to standard gamble (SG); and 2) an unweighted index, where items were summed, normalized to a 0 to 1.0 scale, and the result transformed to a scale length equivalent to the VAS or SG MAUT-based model on a Dead to Full Health scale. Agreement between patients’ direct utility and the indexes for current health was assessed. Results. The agreement of the unweighted index with direct SG was superior to the MAUT-based index (intraclass correlation for absolute agreement: 0.60 v. 0.35; mean difference: 0.03 v. 0.19; and mean absolute difference 0.09 v. 0.21, respectively). Mountain plots showed substantial differences, with the unweighted index demonstrating a median bias of 0.02 versus the MAUT model at 0.2. There was a significant difference ( P = 0.0002) between early (I-II) and late stage (III-IV) patients, the mean difference for both indexes being greater than distribution-based estimates of minimal important difference. Limitations. The population was limited to non–small cell lung cancer patients. However, most quality-of-life literature consulted and the FACT instruments do not differentiate between lung cancer cell types. Minorities were also limited in this sample. Conclusions. The FACT-LUI shows early evidence of validity for informing economic analysis of lung cancer treatments.

The importance of efficient logistics for trade growth is widely acknowledged. Literature has shown that better logistics performance is strongly associated with trade expansion, export diversification, ability to attract foreign direct investments, and economic growth. On the other hand, international trade represents a challenge to logistic operations in transporting and storing products. High logistic costs and low quality of services may be considered obstacles to international trade. This research aims to assess Brazil’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) in relation to its major competitors in international trade. The international trade data was collected from SECEX and COMTRADE, while the LPI was provided by the World Bank. Statistical techniques such as cluster analysis and multiple comparison tests of means have been applied to analyze the data. After using LPI index for the 39 competitors, it has been observed that Brazil occupies the 26th position in the rank of performers, behind South Africa, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The top performers are in general the leading exporters and importers worldwide (Germany, U.S.A., Japan and the Netherlands). Furthermore, they are the strongest competitors of Brazil in international trade. Thus, the competitiveness of Brazilian domestic firms depends crucially on a dynamic and competitive internal logistic environment in order to stand up to these countries. The results also indicate the bureaucracy as a major obstacle to the logistic performance of the country. The dimension Timeliness of Brazil is very close to the High Logistics Performance Group (HLPG) while Customs is very close to the Low Logistics Performance Group (LLPG). Although Brazil has failed in its customs operations, there seems to be more credibility in Brazilian dealings. The main contribution of this paper is to reveal logistical aspects in which Brazil has shown large inefficiencies. The difference among the logistic performance indexs also appears to be relevant to governments to address their new public policies and also to highlight the logistic obstacles of the Brazilian international trade.

The indexes and tendencies of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University on the key ratings and their influence on the quality of education are researched. Discovered mutual performance rating among themselves, including ranking on indicators of performance in Scopus on indicators of Openness and Excellence of Webometrics rating and the rating «Bibliometric of Ukrainian science»; Direct effect of Transparent ranking: Top Universities by Google Scholar Citations on the Webometrics rating. The article describes the ways of influencing on the main indicators of the University's activities in order to increase the positions in international and native ratings and, accordingly, the competitiveness of the University in the educational space.

The optimization of the Benchmark Simulation Model 1 (BSM1) through a multi objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is studied in this paper. First, the optimization of the set points of the two Proportional Integral (PI) controllers proposed in BSM1 is performed. Then, a new controller layout composed of three PI controllers is proposed and the set points are also optimized. Among all performance indexes proposed in BSM1, only the effluent quality and the energy consumption for pumping and aeration were taken into account in both optimization problems. Since these two objectives are conflicting, the use of the MOGA allows in both cases a direct visualization of the possible trade-offs through a Pareto curve. These two case studies showed the feasibility of such optimizations even when dealing with computing intensive model like the full scale waste water treatment plant (WWTP) model.

Abundant of bauxite in China couldn’t be used to process alumina with Bayer process due to it is contain the high silicon. Many of low-grade bauxite have not been fully utilized, and caused many waste of resources. So the bauxite flotation to desilicication of low-grade bauxite will have a very important significance for China's aluminum industry. This paper reports an innovative development: the separation of silicon from bauxite with two stages by the stage grinding and stage flotation via the direct flotation, and obtained the high quality bauxite concentrate, the flotation index is favorable. The raw ore contains Al2O3 60.78%, SiO2 20.84%, the Al2O3 to SiO2 mass ratio (A/S) is 2.92, the main gangue minerals are kaolinite, quartz, pyrophyllites etc. Through the first flotation by the coarse grinding and separation a part of the silicon, then the rough concentrate for the secondary flotation after the regrinding and separation other part of the silicon, obtained the qualified concentrate. The rough concentrate via the five times clean flotation after regrinding. The closed-circuit test obtained the indexes with the concentrate contains Al2O3 70.23%, SiO2 8.65%, the A/S is 8.12, the recovery of Al2O3 is 72.49%. This process can reduce the pollution of gangue minerals to bauxite at the condition of fine grinding, prevent over crush of bauxite, and reduce the impact of experiment of flotation by slime.

Quantitative and qualitative running gait analysis allows the early identification and the longitudinal monitoring of gait abnormalities linked to running-related injuries. A promising calibration- and marker-less video sensor-based technology (i.e., Graal), recently validated for walking gait, may also offer a time- and cost-efficient alternative to the gold-standard methods for running. This study aim was to ascertain the validity of an improved version of Graal for quantitative and qualitative analysis of running. In 33 healthy recreational runners (mean age 41 years), treadmill running at self-selected submaximal speed was simultaneously evaluated by a validated photosensor system (i.e., Optogait—the reference methodology) and by the video analysis of a posterior 30-fps video of the runner through the optimized version of Graal. Graal is video analysis software that provides a spectral analysis of the brightness over time for each pixel of the video, in order to identify its frequency contents. The two main frequencies of variation of the pixel’s brightness (i.e., F1 and F2) correspond to the two most important frequencies of gait (i.e., stride frequency and cadence). The Optogait system recorded step length, cadence, and its variability (vCAD, a traditional index of gait quality). Graal provided a direct measurement of F2 (reflecting cadence), an indirect measure of step length, and two indexes of global gait quality (harmony and synchrony index). The correspondence between quantitative indexes (Cadence vs. F2 and step length vs. Graal step length) was tested via paired t-test, correlations, and Bland–Altman plots. The relationship between qualitative indexes (vCAD vs. Harmony and Synchrony Index) was investigated by correlation analysis. Cadence and step length were, respectively, not significantly different from and highly correlated with F2 (1.41 Hz ± 0.09 Hz vs. 1.42 Hz ± 0.08 Hz, p = 0.25, r2 = 0.81) and Graal step length (104.70 cm ± 013.27 cm vs. 107.56 cm ± 13.67 cm, p = 0.55, r2 = 0.98). Bland–Altman tests confirmed a non-significant bias and small imprecision between methods for both parameters. The vCAD was 1.84% ± 0.66%, and it was significantly correlated with neither the Harmony nor the Synchrony Index (0.21 ± 0.03, p = 0.92, r2 = 0.00038; 0.21 ± 0.96, p = 0.87, r2 = 0.00122). These findings confirm the validity of the optimized version of Graal for the measurement of quantitative indexes of gait. Hence, Graal constitutes an extremely time- and cost-efficient tool suitable for quantitative analysis of running. However, its validity for qualitative running gait analysis remains inconclusive and will require further evaluation in a wider range of absolute and relative running intensities in different individuals.

Efficient air-cooling systems for hot climatic conditions, such as Southern Europe, are required in the context of nearly Zero Energy Buildings, nZEB. Innovative air-cooling systems such as regenerative indirect evaporative coolers, RIEC and desiccant regenerative indirect evaporative coolers, DRIEC, can be considered an interesting alternative to direct expansion air-cooling systems, DX. The main aim of the present work was to evaluate the seasonal performance of three air-cooling systems in terms of air quality, thermal comfort and energy consumption in a standard classroom. Several annual energy simulations were carried out to evaluate these indexes for four different climate zones in the Mediterranean area. The simulations were carried out with empirically validated models. The results showed that DRIEC and DX improved by 29.8% and 14.6% over RIEC regarding thermal comfort, for the warmest climatic conditions, Lampedusa and Seville. However, DX showed an energy consumption three and four times higher than DRIEC for these climatic conditions, respectively. RIEC provided the highest percentage of hours with favorable indoor air quality for all climate zones, between 46.3% and 67.5%. Therefore, the air-cooling systems DRIEC and RIEC have a significant potential to reduce energy consumption, achieving the user’s thermal comfort and improving indoor air quality.

The paper presents the results of experimental and theoretical studies of the optical and energy properties of thin CdSe films obtained by the closed space sublimation. The synthesis method, the results of structural and optical studies of thin CdSe films deposited on the surface of a quartz substrate are presented. The quality of the films was analyzed by x-ray diffraction, energy dispersive analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Within the framework of the pseudopotential method, the dynamics of changes in the parameters of the CdSe films electronic subsystem is theoretically studied. The direct-gap nature of the forbidden gap of the film is established. Based on the density of states, the genesis of the conduction band and the valence band is established. Using the Kramers – Kronig relation, we obtained spectra of optical dielectric functions, optical reflection, refractive and extinction indexes, which satisfactorily correlate with the obtained experimental data.

Miscanthus x giganteus (Mxg) is a promising second-generation biofuel crop with high production of energetic biomass. Our aim was to determine the level of plant stress of Mxg grown in poor quality soils using non-invasive physiological parameters and to test whether the stress could be reduced by application of plant growth regulators (PGRs). Plant fitness was quantified by measuring of leaf fluorescence using 24 indexes to select the most suitable fluorescence indicators for quantification of this type of abiotic stress. Simultaneously, visible stress signs were observed on stems and leaves and differences in variants were revealed also by microscopy of leaf sections. Leaf fluorescence analysis, visual observation and changes of leaf anatomy revealed significant stress in all studied subjects compared to those cultivated in good quality soil. Besides commonly used Fv/Fm (potential photosynthetic efficiency) and P.I. (performance index), which showed very low sensitivity, we suggest other fluorescence parameters (like dissipation, DIo/RC) for revealing finer differences. We can conclude that measurement of leaf fluorescence is a suitable method for revealing stress affecting Mxg in poor soils. However, none of investigated parameters proved significant positive effect of PGRs on stress reduction. Therefore, direct improvement of soil quality by fertilization should be considered for stress reduction and improving the biomass quality in this type of soils.

249 Background: Relationship between BMI and HR-QoL has been extensively studied in CRC survivors. Increasing BMI has been recently associated with improved survival in mCRC pts, however data on the relationship between BMI and common HR-QoL measures in mCRC are scarce Methods: The EORTC QLC C30 and the NCCN distress thermometer (DT) and problem list (PL) questionnaires were administered to consecutive mCRC pts candidate for firstline chemotherapy. The effect of BMI on HR-QoL were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. The interaction between BMI and other variables of interest (such as inflammatory indexes) for the effect on HR-QoL was also analysed using a logistic regression analysis Results: Of 135 screened pts, 119 completed the questionnaires. A direct association was observed between BMI and GH score, with the score gradually improving from BMI 14 to 21, then plateauing between 21 and 41. A significantly lower GH was observed for BMI < 21 vs > 21 (GH 50 vs 67, p 0.014). DT and BMI were not correlated. BMI was inversely associated with practical problems (mean number of reported problems 0.7 vs 0.4 for BMI < 24 vs > 24, p0.012). The other components inversely associated with BMI were appetite loss, pain and fatigue (which were higher for BMI < 21 , p values 0.033, 0.015 and 0.007, respectively). A direct association with BMI was also observed for social and physical functioning (p values 0.002 and 0.05, respectively). Median BMI in pts with GH score < 25 vs > 25 was 19 vs 25, p 0.05. Percentage of pts with very low BMI (BMI < 21) was 38% vs 2% for pts with GH < 25 vs > 25, respectively, Odds Ratio 32.4, p 0.0007. Among 15 common clinical and biochemical analysed variables, the inflammatory index neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) demonstrated a significant interaction with BMI for the effect on GH, with the direct association between BMI and GH only retained in pts with low NLR and a deteriorated GH in pts with high NLR regardless of BMI, test for interaction p 0.013 Conclusions: Low BMI is associated with deteriorated HR-QoL in mCRC pts with low NLR approaching a first-line treatment. Adequate nutritional support and anti-inflammatory approaches would improve HR-QoL in these pts.

Quantification is no longer a practice of natural science only but has become part of human sciences and everyday life as well. As a direct measurement, which fits the axiomatic of the representational theory of measurement, is mostly infeasible in the social sciences, indicators are used and frequently aggregated to indexes. The index scores can be used to construct a ranking of the units (HDI, PISA). Measurement level and meaning of the data remain often unknown (pseudo-metrical scaling). Furthermore many variables in the field of education are not quantifiable. In the course of globalization and international competition, an indicator system for educational quality measurement (PISA, TIMMS) and goal achievement (Education for All, Millenium Development Goals, Sustainable Development Goals), was established and exerts an increasing impact on national educational systems.The main concerns of indicator-based steering are its methodological limitations and the transformation from a descriptive information base to a normative control system.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To provide an empirical test of the applicability of Locker's conceptual model of oral health for malocclusion patients, and to suggest alternative models of the effect of malocclusion on well-being. Materials and Methods: Data from a survey of 323 adolescents attending for orthodontic treatment were analyzed to develop a new oral health model for malocclusion patients. Oral health–related quality of life (OHRQoL) was measured using the 14-item Oral Health Impact Profile; malocclusion was measured using the Dental Health Component (DHC) of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN). Using structural equation modeling, the relationship between conceptual domains in Locker's model was explored and three models of their interrelationship tested for goodness of fit. Results: Fit indexes for Locker's model indicated that it did not fit the data well. Therefore, a modified model was developed to incorporate additional paths between other levels to better fit the data. The best fit was provided by a model in which the direct effects of malocclusion on pain, discomfort, and handicapping—and the direct effect of pain on disability—were removed. A direct effect of functional limitation on disability was allowed. The modified Oral Health Impact Profile model proved to be a good fit to the data (root mean square error of approximation = 0.069). Conclusion: The pathways identified in Locker's (1988) conceptual model of oral health may not be appropriate for describing the relationships between OHRQoL constructs in individuals with malocclusion. An alternative model is proposed.

In order to improve the seeding quality of paddy planter, some parts of rice seed-metering, such as sufficient regulator and delivery tube, were optimally designed, and field experiment was completed to optimize the structural and working parameters. Central composite design was employed to as design the experimental plan by means of the Design-Expert software (Version 7.0). The parameters of travel speed (A), sufficient regulator’s angle (B) and length of delivery tube (C) were selected as influence factors, and seeding quality rate(y1), damage ratio of seeding(y2) and ratio of seeding holes(y3) were chosen as objective indexes. Regression models were established and analyzed based on Design-Expert and SAS software. The experiment results indicated that sufficient regulator improved quality of seeding and ratio of seeding holes especially with a few rice seeds in seed room. Under experimental conditions, the importance of each variable on y1, y2 and y3 was A>C>B, C>B>A and C>B>A and effects of the interaction of A and C on y1, the interaction of B and C on y2 and the interaction of A and C on y3 were significant by response surface analysis. By multiple objective programming, the optimal parameters were obtained as follow: travel speed of 2.8km/h, angle of sufficient regulator of 72°and delivery tube’s length of 0.25m. This study has important significant to well improvement seeding quality of rice direct-seeding.

The reform and opening up of the Chinese economy over the last 40 years has led to rapid economic development. However, with the rapid expansion of the economy, increasingly serious air pollution is apparent. In order to control urban air pollution effectively, Chinese governments at all levels have invested large sums every year. However, it has become a difficult issue which influences public government decisions with respect to how and according to what standard to distribute financial funds so as to improve air quality while saving money at the same time. Taking Beijing as an example, this paper investigates the ten-year change in the annual daily mean of inhalable particulate matter (PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from the year of 2006 to 2015, researches the invested funds in environmental protection in Beijing, and establishes a relationship between the atmospheric indexes of the above three parameters and government-invested funds in environmental protection. According to model analysis, government financial input has an obvious influence on the improvement of air quality. However, during the long period of financial input, the degree of air quality improvement will reduce gradually as time goes by. There exists a direct link between the effectiveness of government financial input to promote air quality and the air quality index, which means when the pollutant standards index is poor (i.e., the corresponding pollutant concentration is higher), the effectiveness will be more apparent. On the contrary, when the index is at a good level, the effectiveness of government financial input is very small. To achieve the best air quality conditions, the government should set the detailed financial input at or over the first-grade standard according to urban air quality standards.

Purpose The effects of customer satisfaction on loyalty have been widely discussed by the academic community. Although the results of the studies reported in the literature are often contradictory, the existence of a relationship between satisfaction and loyalty is acknowledged, despite the influence of moderators and constraints of various kinds. The purpose of this paper is to discuss this relationship in the specific context of the retail sector, since this sector presents major challenges in terms of competition, and efforts placed on customer satisfaction and loyalty are more evident. Design/methodology/approach A survey based on the European Customer Satisfaction Index (ECSI) model was applied to a retail store in Portugal. This model has its roots in Switzerland, where in 1989, Claes Fornell developed a new complementary method for measuring the overall quality of companies’ output, through the calculation of an aggregated customer satisfaction index. The proposed model is based on a set of causal relationships established between a set of constructs. The ultimate goal is to calculate both satisfaction and loyalty indexes as well as to estimate the relationship between both constructs. Structural equation modelling, based on a partial least squares (PLS) estimation methodology, is the statistical technique used to estimate the model parameters, as well as to compare the aggregated indexes. PLS is based on the principles of linear regression and combines multiple regression aspects with factor analysis, in order to estimate a series of interrelated relationships. Findings The results confirm a positive influence of satisfaction on customers’ loyalty to the retail store. The study also shows the importance of the image construct, due to its strong direct effects on satisfaction, which makes it essential for influencing the loyalty index, both directly and indirectly. The impact of the image construct is also evident on the expectations, as the latter has shown a considerable direct effect on perceived quality. Research limitations/implications The study is based on a single case study of a Portuguese sports retail store. In future it would be interesting to study a representative sample of the whole retail sector. Practical implications The study is useful for the specific retail store where it was undertaken to help it devise better customer service, in order to increase satisfaction and loyalty. It is also useful for the entire network of stores for that retailer and other retail chains. Social implications The systematic application of customer surveys to whole sectors of the economy would improve competition, customer service and, ultimately, contribute to development and economic growth. Originality/value The ECSI has been applied to various industry sectors in different countries, including Portugal. It has never been used in the context of the Portuguese retail sector and it adds to the discussion on the relationship between satisfaction and loyalty, which is a pertinent topic of interest for researchers in quality management.

Dysphagia is one of the most common symptoms in patients after stroke onset, which has multiple unfavorable effects on quality of life and functional recovery. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation that is widely used to improve deglutition function. Recently, some studies have confirmed that tDCS enhances deglutition function after stroke. However, the number of evaluation indexes used in those studies was small, and the number of trials included was limited. Most importantly, the optimal stimulation protocol is still uncertain and the safety of tDCS has not been reviewed. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to address these shortcomings. Methods: Seven databases were searched entirely, including Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed), Wan-fang database, and the Chinese Scientific Journals Database (VIP) from inception to 31 December 2021. Two reviewers independently evaluated the eligibility of retrieved data according to the selection criteria and assessed the methodological quality of the studies using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Outcomes, measures, and indicators used in this study included the dysphagia outcome and severity scale (DOSS), modified Mann assessment of swallowing ability (MMASA), functional oral intake scale (FOIS), functional dysphagia scale (FDS), and Kubota’s water-drinking test (KWDT). Sensitivity and subgroup analyses were performed to evaluate the intervention effect more specifically. Results: Fifteen trials with a total of 787 participants (394 subjects in the tDCS groups were treated with true tDCS, and 393 subjects in the control groups were wait-listed or treated with sham tDCS) involving tDCS for dysphagia after stroke and were included in the meta-analysis. Results of this meta-analysis confirmed that tDCS had a positive effect on post-stroke dysphagia. Subgroup analyses revealed that bilateral and high-intensity stimulation with tDCS had a more significant impact on post-stroke dysphagia. Furthermore, no adverse events occurred during the application of tDCS for post-stroke dysphagia. Conclusion: tDCS can promote the recovery of deglutition function in patients with dysphagia after stroke. In addition, bilateral stimulation and high-intensity stimulation may have better effects. However, the safety evidence for tDCS and post-stroke dysphagia is insufficient.

To optimize grassland management, it is important to evaluate seasonal changes in quality and production according to the characteristics of the environment, allowing planning and rational use of resources. With the objective of finding estimators that fit the actual production of aerial biomass in natural pastures, it was proposed to estimate biomass with the average height of the pasture and by double sampling, by determination by direct weight estimation and by estimation with index assignment. For this purpose, a natural grassland located in the area of influence of the final section of the Chucul River Basin (La Felipa Natural Reserve) was surveyed. Periodically from April 2013 to March 2016, in ten samples taken with 0.25 m2 quadrants, the biomass was cut and weighed, and the height of the present species was measured. In the area surrounding each quadrant, 50 uncorrected visual observations were made by assigning indexes from 1 to 5 and values of estimated weight according to the amount of forage available. Then a correlation analysis was performed and linear regressions were determined between the parameters studied. Real biomass (BR) showed a significant correlation with biomass estimated by Weight (BEP) and biomass estimated by Index (BEI) (p≤0.05).

Lichen planus refers to a common chronic inflammatory diseases of the skin. From lichen planus suffers 0.1% to 2.4% of the population. In most patients, the process has a tendency to relapsing course, and the methods of relief of exacerbations mainly include the use of corticosteroids, which have side effects. In recent years there have been few studies of the effectiveness of narrowband ultraviolet therapy, polychromatic polarized light, however, the problem of therapy of patients with lichen planus remains relevant. Under our observation there were 62 patients in age from 20 to 54 years with different clinical forms of lichen planus. Patients of the main group additionally received pulsed polarized light therapy and a topical inhibitor of calcineurin, patients of comparison groups received pulsed polarized light therapy or a topical inhibitor of calcineurin. Evaluation of effectiveness was based on clinical (dermatological indexes) and special methods (biochemical, immunological). The use of the combined method in patients with lichen planus caused high therapeutic and preventive effects, as evidenced by the improvement indices dermatologicaly status and improving the quality of life, positive dynamics of the content of histamine, expression of Toll-receptors according to the direct and remote observations.

Owing to its environment-friendly, economically available, and sustainable property, the palm fiber was attempted to improve the quality of Shanghai clayey soil together with lime. The direct shear tests (DST), ultrasonic pulse velocity tests (UPV), and the unconfined compressive tests (UCT) have been carried out on soils mixed with palm fiber and lime under 3 curing conditions of immersion in water, cyclic wetting-drying, and air curing at a series of contents of additives. The corresponding indexes of shear strength (τ), cohesion (c), internal friction angle (φ), initial shear modulus (G0), and unconfined compressive strength (qu) were obtained and analyzed. Results show that immersed-in-water environment is optimum for the formation of shear strength, initial shear modulus, cohesion, and unconfined compressive strength (UCS), while the air curing condition is the worst for admixture treated soil. Lime can increase G0, but palm fiber can slightly reduce G0. Lime has significant effect on increase of internal friction angle; on the contrary, palm fiber has only limited effect. c/G0 for any type of sample remains almost constant under different curing conditions. It demonstrates that c and G0 possess the comparative development trend under different curing environment.

Purpose of this research is studying on effect of undesirable service experience and other effective factors on customer complaint behaviour. The present research in respect of goal is applied and in respect of nature and research methodology is descriptive survey, and the tool for gathering data is questionnaire. Statistical society of research are customers of Eghtesad Novin Bank, Tehran West District Branch that questionnaires were distributed to 385 available customers in the said district. For evaluating validity of questionnaire, the content validity and structures validity were used and also composite reliability (CR) indexes and Cronbach's alpha were used for studying on its reliability. For illative analysis of data, the confirmatory factor analysis and structural equations modelling method were used by using Smart PLS software. Results of research shows that personnel, service facilities quality, attitude towards complaints, information level, experience level, satisfaction level and importance of situation have positive and direct effect on customer complaint behaviour. Effect of facilities and appearance of branch and probability of succession in complaints are nonsense.Findings of this research may be beneficial for managers of banks and all customer-oriented service companies who want to be successful in competitive market.

• Background Delayed transfers of patients between nursing units and lack of available beds are significant problems that increase costs and decrease quality of care and satisfaction among patients and staff.• Objective To test whether use of acuity-adaptable rooms helps solve problems with transfers of patients, satisfaction levels, and medical errors.• Methods A pre-post method was used to compare the effects of environmental design on various clinical and financial measures. Twelve outcome-based questions were formulated as the basis for inquiry. Two years of baseline data were collected before the unit moved and were compared with 3 years of data collected after the move.• Results Significant improvements in quality and operational cost occurred after the move, including a large reduction in clinician handoffs and transfers; reductions in medication error and patient fall indexes; improvements in predictive indicators of patients’ satisfaction; decrease in budgeted nursing hours per patient day and increased available nursing time for direct care without added cost; increase in patient days per bed, with a smaller bed base (number of beds per patient days). Some staff turnover occurred during the first year; turnover stabilized thereafter.• Conclusions Data in 5 key areas (flow of patients and hospital capacity, patients’ dissatisfaction, sentinel events, mean length of stay, and allocation of nursing productivity) appear to be sufficient to test the business case for future investment in partial or complete replication of this model with appropriate populations of patients.

This paper presents comparative studies of preanalytical quality indices of vacuum gel systems (VGS) from four manufacturers, i.e., GL 795 (China), Vacuette (Austria), BD Vacutainer SST (USA) and Zdravmedtech (Russia). The analysis of the number of qualitative defects of the preanalytic phase of blood collection in vacuum gel tubes at the inpatient departments and in Department of Clinical Chemistry (preanalytic laboratory), in accordance with adopted criteria based on Russian industry standards, which are implemented with European indices of pre-analytic stage. The obtained results allowed us to identify a number of qualitative defects at pre-analytic stage for the vacuum gel systems from each manufacturer, including to summarize the data on number of these defects. Based on these results, the most common defects in each of the VGS presented by manufacturers are formulated. The results obtained can be used by manufacturers to improve the quality (structures) of the mentioned vacuum gel tubes.The results of the comparative characteristics of VGS of different manufacturers were evaluated by their influence on the indexes of hemolysis (IH), ictericity, lipemia. The resulting indices of ictericity and lipemia do not allow to use them as criteria for assessing quality of the gel systems. The frequency of IH occurrence in serum at > 50 conventional units in VGS of different manufacturers was studied. It was revealed, that IH in the range from 10 to 50 conventional units and more, can be used as a criterion of VGS quality.Comparison of routine biochemical parameters in VGS of different manufacturers, i.e., alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, direct bilirubin, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), serum K+, was also carried out. It was found that the largest deviations from the average value were obtained for aspartate aminotransferase indices of more than 12.47% in Russian test tubes, and for direct bilirubin of more than 12.25% in Chinese test tubes and more than 9.15% in Russian test tubes. The study showed influence of IH upon quantitative values of lactate dehydrogenase for VGS from different manufacturers. It is proposed to use lactate dehydrogenase as an analyte. On this basis, it is possible to recommend a comparative quality assessment of vacuum gel systems, with IH cutoff level of more than 19 conventional units. It remains relevant to search for other analytes that can be used to assess the quality of VGS from different manufacturers. Some areas of research in biochemical testing are outlined. Preliminary data are obtained on usage of vacuum systems from different manufacturers for quality assessment, as well as conditions for performing these tests, along with the level of the hemolysis index of more than 10 conventional units.

The microstructure, optical absorption properties and luminescence function of GaN thin films grown on the sapphire substrate with the buffer layer of GaN by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) have been studied by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), infrared transmission spectrum, ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrum and photoluminescence. XRD results show that the crystal structure of GaN is hexagonal wurtzite structure. The thin films have preferred orientation in c axis with very high quality. TEM images of the cross-sectional specimen show that the thickness of every layer in the superlattice are uniform with the average period of 13.3 nm, but there are high-density dislocations in the superlattices region. From related optical experimental data, it is found that optical absorption edge is at about 370 nm. The theory calculation indicates that the five samples are direct transition semiconductor and band-gaps are about 3.4 eV. The refractive indexes of the samples increase with photon energy enhancing and decrease with the wavelength increasing. The results show that the extinction coefficients reach the lowest point at 370 nm. Photoluminescence test results show that superlattice has preferable luminescence property. In addition, the yellow luminescence is found in all samples.

Interlaboratory comparisons are a basic part of the regular quality controls of laboratories to warranty the adequate performance of test and measurements. The exercise presented in this article is the comparison of indoor radon gas measurements under field conditions performed with passive detectors and active monitors carried out in the Laboratory of Natural Radiation (LNR). The aim is to provide a direct comparison between different methodologies and to identify physical reasons for possible inconsistencies, particularly related to sampling and measurement techniques. The variation of radon concentration during the comparison showed a big range of values, with levels from approximately 0.5 to 30 kBq/m3. The reference values for the two exposure periods have been derived from a weighted average of participants’ results applying an iterative algorithm. The indexes used to analyze the participants’ results were the relative percentage difference D(%), the Zeta score ( ζ ), and the z-score ( z ). Over 80% of the results for radon in air exposure are within the interval defined by the reference value and 20% and 10% for the first and the second exposure, respectively. Most deviations were detected with the overestimating of the exposure using passive detectors due to the related degassing time of detector holder materials.

Chip morphology is one of the evaluation indexes of cutting performance of cutting tools, and chip forming process has a direct and important influence on chip morphology. High-strength steel 40CrMnMo is one of typical oil country tubular goods (OCTG) and difficult-to-cut materials, and its chip morphology represents the machining quality of OCTG. The chip forming process of a new independent-developed microgroove turning tool for turning oil country tubular goods 40CrMnMo is researched, combining machining experiments with theoretical analysis. Research results show that with the increase of cutting speed, the initial radius of curvature of the chip fluctuates slightly, but the overall trend is upward. However, the ultimate radius of curvature decreases and the chip’s radius ratio also decreases. The relative ideal chip can be obtained if the proper cutting velocity and feed rate are given. Chip morphology results from the comprehensive effect of the two processes: The fracture and separation process of the workpiece during passing through the shear deformation zone and the process of curling and breaking away of the chip after passing through the rake face of the tool. The research results have a certain guiding significance for controlling the cutting process of machining the other material with similar performance.

Due to data unavailability of nematodes associated with citrus, a detailed survey was conducted in the main citrus-growing regions of Morocco during 2020–2021 to assess the occurrence, distribution, and diversity of PPNs associated with rhizospheres of citrus trees. In addition, some soil properties have also been assessed for their impact on soil properties. Plant-parasitic nematode diversity was calculated using two ecological indexes, the Shannon diversity index (H′) and the Evenness index (E). The collected soil and root samples were analyzed, and eleven genera and ten species of plant-parasitic nematodes were identified. The results show that the most predominant PPN species were Tylenchulus semipenetrans (88%), Helicotylenchus spp. (75%), Pratylenchus spp. (47%), Tylenchus spp. (51%), and Xiphinema spp. (31%). The results showed that PPN distributions were correlated with soil physicochemical properties such as soil texture, pH levels, and mineral content. Based on the obtained result, it was concluded that besides the direct effects of the host plant, physicochemical factors of the soil could greatly affect PPN communities in citrus growing orchards.

Sugar, particularly as free sugars or sugar-sweetened beverages, significantly contributes to total energy intake, and, possibly, to increased body weight. Excessive consumption may be considered as a proxy of poor diet quality. However, no previous studies evaluated the association between the habit of adding sugars to “healthy” foods, such as plain milk and fresh fruit, and indicators of adiposity and/or dietary quality in children. To answer to these research questions, we Panalysed the European cohort of children participating in the IDEFICS study. Anthropometric variables, frequency of consumption of sugars added to milk and fruit (SAMF), and scores of adherence to healthy dietary pattern (HDAS) were assessed at baseline in 9829 children stratified according to age and sex. From this cohort, 6929 children were investigated again after two years follow-up. At baseline, a direct association between SAMF categories and adiposity indexes was observed only in children aged 6–<10 years, while the lower frequency of SAMF consumption was significantly associated with a higher HDAS. At the two year follow-up, children with higher baseline SAMF consumption showed significantly higher increases in all the anthropometric variables measured, with the exception of girls 6–<10 years old. The inverse association between SAMF categories and HDAS was still present at the two years follow-up in all age and sex groups. Our results suggest that the habit to adding sugars to foods that are commonly perceived as healthy may impact the adherence to healthy dietary guidelines and increase in adiposity risk as well.

In a modern economy, good governance is considered a prominent factor for economic growth (Liu, Tang, Zhou, & Liang, 2018). However, Sub-Saharan Africa has a poor track record of good governance and economic growth (Fayissa & Nsiah, 2013). Therefore, this study is aimed to investigate the impact of governance on economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa. Panel data that covers a period from 2005 to 2019 for 34 countries and the principal component analysis (PCA) method are employed to achieve the stated objective of the study. The selected fixed- and random-effect estimations showed that among the six-governance quality indicators control of corruption, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, and rule of law positively affect real GDP per capita (economic growth) while political stability and absence of violence and voice and accountability are statistically insignificant to affect real GDP per capita. The estimations result of composite governance indicators confirmed that except for the political dimension of governance both the economic and institutional dimensions of governance, as well as overall composite governance indexes, positively affect the economic growth of the region. Besides, foreign direct investment, the government fixed capital formation and gross domestic product growth affect real GDP per capita positively in all models while government consumption expenditure and age dependency ratio negatively affect real GDP per capita. Therefore, in addition to the existing support in the improvement of the political activities in Sub-Saharan Africa, concerned bodies should also focus to enhance the economic and institutional dimensions of governance in the region

With the implementation of Health China strategy, rehabilitation medicine, as an important branch of medicine, plays an increasingly important role in China’s health. Objective: This paper aims to inquire into the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS) plus early rehabilitation therapy on cerebral cognitive function, hemodynamics and quality of life (QOL) in patients with cerebral infarction (CI). Methods: One hundred and eight Clpatients treated in our hospital were randomized into the observation group (OG; n=63) for TDCS plus early rehabilitation therapy and the control group (CG; n=45) for early rehabilitation therapy alone. The changes of hemodynamic index before and after treatment were observed. The eurological deficit [neurological deficit score (NDS)] and cognitive impairment [mini-mental state examination (MMSE)], as well as activity of daily living (ADL; Barthel score) and motor function [Fugl Meyer assessment (FMA)] were compared between the two series. The assessment of neurological function recovery of patients in the two cohors was performed by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). The therapeutic effect of the two groups was compared, as well as the post-treatment QOL referring to the questionnaire of QOL of patients with acute CI. Results: The post-treatment hemodynamic indexes increased in both OG and CG, and the increase was more profound in OG (p<0.05). After treatment, the NDS score in OG was lower while the MMSE score was higher as compared to CG (p<0.05). The Barthel score and the FMA score increased in both groups after treatment, with higher scores in OG (p<0.05). The NIHSS score of both groups decreased post treatment, and the score was lower in OG (p<0.05). OG presented with notably higher total effective rate (p=0.028) and superior QOL than CG (p<0.05). Conclusions: TDCS plus early rehabilitation therapy is effective for patients with early CI, which can enormously improve the neurological function, hemodynamics, activity ability and QOL of patients.

Hydrogeochemical characterization and statistical methods were used to investigate the groundwater quality and the origin of constituents (anthropic or natural) in groundwater of the Coreca area (Calabria, South Italy). Coreca is characterized by an articulated geological setting where the three main geological complexes that distinguish the Northern Calabria Peloritan Orogen (CPO) outcrop. This complex asset affects the quality of groundwater mainly exploited for irrigation use. In particular, the presence of ultramafic rocks (e.g., serpentinite and metabasite) promotes the release of harmful elements such as Cr and Ni. In the studied area, two groups of waters were identified: Ca-HCO3 waters strongly controlled by the interaction with Ca-rich phases (e.g., limestone), and Mg-HCO3 waters related to the interaction of meteoric water with the metamorphic units. Statistical elaboration allowed to detect, in the Mg-HCO3 group, a good correlation between Cr and Ni (not observed in Ca waters) and a negative correlation between Cr, Ca and Al, in agreement with direct interaction with ultramafic rocks characterized by low concentrations of CaO and Al2O3. The concentration of major and trace elements has been compared with the Italian law limit values and the drinking water guidelines provided by the World Health Organization (WHO). Only three samples showed Mn and Ni concentration higher than the Italian law threshold. Furthermore, the assessment of groundwater quality was carried out using salinity and metal indexes. The groundwater quality assessment for irrigation allowed to classify the resource as “excellent to good” and “good to permissible”; nevertheless, a salinity problem and a magnesium hazard were found. Lastly, a metal index (MI) calculation revealed values <1 for almost all samples, pointing to good overall quality. Only a few samples showed a value extremely higher than 1, attributable to prolonged interaction with ultramafic rocks and/or localized anthropogenic pollution. From a general point of view, groundwater showed a generally good quality except for limited areas (and limited to the set of constituents analyzed) and a mild exceedance of the maximum salinity thresholds that must be monitored over time. Through a multidisciplinary approach, it was possible to ascertain the main anomalies attributable to the interaction with the hosting rocks and not (with few exceptions) to anthropic processes.

Context. The article proposes a latent-semantic technology for extracting information from Internet resources, which allows processing information in natural language, as well as a multi-agent search algorithm based on it. The relevance of this approach to the search for subject-oriented information determined by the fact that currently a direct lexical comparison of queries with document indexes does not fully satisfy the developer. The object of the study is a multi-agent latent-semantic algorithm for searching for subject-oriented information. Objective. The work is to increase the efficiency of forming a knowledge model that is adequate for this subject area. Method. A latent semantic technology based on the weighted descriptor method developed by the authors is proposed. The main difference from the existing methods is that the analysis of words occurring in the text both in frequency and taking into account semantics carried out by selecting the appropriate descriptors, which improves the quality of the information found. Results. The developed latent-semantic technology of information search tested in the task of constructing a knowledge model of automated decision support systems for operational and dispatching control of urban engineering networks. The conducted modeling of the search for subject-oriented information in this subject area showed the effectiveness of the developed approach. Conclusions. Improving the efficiency of search and semantic content of subject-oriented information of the knowledge model of this subject area achieved by using the weighted descriptor method based on Zipf’s laws in this technology. The prospects for further research are to build evolutionary models of knowledge and improve the quality of updated information.

Changes in microclimates in urbanized areas are due to direct human interference, such as the replacement of wooded areas by paving and construction in inadequate locations. For the study of environments, climatic variables interpreted in isolation have little informative content because its exist in set. Considering the expansion of urban areas over the rural environment, the characterization of anthropized environments has been an important tool for feeding urban projects that, in order to be sustainable, have used comfort indexes in your evaluations. Another resource currently used are decision support systems, such as those that use fuzzy logic, as they assist in the observation of conflicting situations such as those involving environmental issues. Thus, in this research, the human discomfort index (HDI) was used to assess 6 different microclimates and to verify the degree of interference of rural anthropization in human thermal comfort and with the observed information build a mathematical model based on fuzzy logic, relating climatic variables and microenvironments, in which the response variable were levels of human well-being. In the end, it was possible to conclude that the urbanization process in rural areas influences the microclimate and quality of the environments, reflecting human thermal comfort. In addition, the Fuzzy model constructed estimated the observed scenarios in a coherent manner, serving to assist in the management of agricultural environments and decision making.

A negative psychical background is the imprint of smell ofpowder, hampering social and professional adaptation, and also interpersonal relations ofparticipants of battle actions. The study of level of socially-psychological adaptation of invalids and participants of battle actions showed that their considerable part (about 58%) has signs of zero adaptability, and in 12% of cases from this category the signs of complete social disadaptation are pronounced with the expressed negative reaction on situations, by irreconcilable attitude toward all surrounding, by the expressed protest reactions. The low level of adaptation of this category of persons is caused by the array of factors of both objective and subjective character. To the objective factors it is possible to refer socio-economic indexes, characterizing quality of the life of this contingent, state of health, weight of disability. However it is not always succeeded to observe the direct dependence between these indices and state of adaptation. It is explained by subjective psychological descriptions. The psychological consequences of traumatic stress determine the special requirement of contingent of private traders of battle actions in a socially-psychological rehabilitation. In cases of expressed posttraumatic stress disorders, socio-psychological disadaptation of persons from a number the veterans of battle actions, individual work is required after a vocational orientation and further employment taking into account compensatory-adaptive possibilities of organism and features ofpsychical reactions for the servicemen injured as a result of armed conflict.
