Purpose The purpose of this paper is to report a study of bullying on online labour markets (OLMs), highlighting how abuse unfolds in digital workplaces and depicting the trajectory of target resilience. Design/methodology/approach Adopting van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenology, targets’ lived experiences of bullying on OLMs was explored. Data gathered from Indian freelancers located on Upwork via conversational telephonic interviews were subjected to sententious and selective thematic analyses. Findings The core theme of “pursuing long-term and holistic well-being” showed how targets tapped into yet augmented their resilience while navigating the features of OLMs as they coped with their experiences of bullying. The interface between targets’ internal and external resources, including platform support, vis-à-vis the concreteness and permanence of the site as targets asserted agency, sought control and realized positive outcomes while preserving their reputation, relationality, success and continuity was captured. It may be noted that bullying in digital workplaces is exclusively virtual in form. Research limitations/implications Alongside theoretical generalizability, statistical generalizability of the findings should be established. Practical implications Recommendations for action for platforms and targets are forwarded. In particular, the critical role of formal workplace support in influencing employee resilience is emphasized. Originality/value The paper makes several pioneering contributions. First, it reports the first empirical inquiry examining bullying in digital workplaces. Moreover, OLM research on abuse and harassment has not been undertaken so far. Second, it furthers theorization of resilience, especially with regard to workplace antecedents. Apart from identifying the new organizational antecedent of formal workplace support, it uncovers the complexities of resilience. Third, it extends knowledge on workplace cyberbullying, positive outcomes of workplace bullying and OLMs in India.

The use of digital technology has become a key part of contemporary debates on how work is changing, the future of work/ers, resistance, and organising. Workerism took up many of these questions in the context of the factory – particularly through the Italian Operaismo – connecting the experience of the workplace with a broader struggle against capitalism. However, there are many differences between those factories and the new digital workplaces in which many workers find themselves today. The methods of workers’ inquiry and the theories of class composition are a useful legacy from Operaismo, providing tools and a framework to make sense of and intervene within workers’ struggles today. However, these require sharpening and updating in a digital context. In this article, we discuss the challenges and opportunities for a “digital workerism”, understood as both a research and organising method. We use the case study of Uber to discuss how technology can be used against workers, as well as repurposed by them in various ways. By developing an analysis of the technical, social, and political re-composition taking place on the platform, we move beyond determinist readings of technology, to place different technologies within the social relations that are emerging. In particular, we draw attention to the new forms through which workers’ struggles can be circulated. Through this, we argue for a “digital workerism” that develops a critical understanding of how the workplace can become a key site for the struggles of digital/communicative socialism.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in employees being exposed to transformational stressors from within and outside the organization. This has created an opportunity for employee mental health solutions. Indeed, there has been a rapid growth in start-ups offering clinical mental health services via a digital health platform. These platforms servicing enterprise employee mental health needs have not been evaluated with respect to their ability to enhance management communication. Hence, the aims of the present study are to explore communication and service attributes across a sample of five operational leading commercial start-up platforms for mental service delivery to employees. We have observed that all platform models focused on providing on-demand mental health consultation services. Existing platforms fail to adequately support management communication for mental health solutions across 80% of platforms reviewed. We recommend that industry start-ups should understand the need for management engagement with digital mental health platforms. Digital mental health platform solutions in the workplace are ideally supported by valuing leadership communication. A culture around mental health will create sustainability in digital mental health solutions for an organization.

This study builds on the emergence of new gifting practices using e-hongbaos which are monetary gifts transferred between individuals made possible by digital communication platforms. This is an exploratory study on the impact of these innovations on intra-organizational relationships. Three types of intra-organizational relationships are considered: the employee's relationship with the organization, with the team, and with the manager. The findings of the study indicate positive impacts of e-hongbao at all organizational levels. The authors also identify the varying effects of e-hongbao on intra-organizational relationship outcomes depending on the occasion of gifting, as well as the mode, direction, and measure. Specifically, ‘group' e-hongbao, a gamified group-gift enabled by the digitalization of gifting, has the strongest influence on intra-organizational relationships. The authors discuss the implications of these findings for theory and practice in the workplace and also offer future research directions.

There have been a significant number of publications about digital workplace transformation. This is due to technological developments in the last decades as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is no adequate overall definition of the term. This leads to misunderstandings and confused interpretation of the digital workplace, sometimes even narrowing it down to a set of tools or a platform. Given the complexity of digital workplace transformation, there is a need to have an integrated prospective and analyze it not just from a technological perspective, but from an organizational and processes point of view as well. Therefore, this paper is an attempt to review the concept and offer a comprehensive definition of the digital workplace. This includes all the important aspects of the transformation including tools and platforms as well as personal issues, organization, processes and management. The paper provides a systematic literature review of the publications in leading bibliographic and citation bases, starting from Web of Science and Scopus to SpringerLink, IEEE Xplore and Association for Information Systems eLibrary. The review includes not only journal papers, but also leading proceedings, books and other referent publications. It addresses the authors' approaches, perspectives, terminologies, focusses and understanding of workplace transformation over the last decade by a comprehensive review of the state of art of the literature in the field of digital workplace. Finally, a set of recommendations are made to further research in increasingly important subject of digital workplace transformation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to offer HR leaders ideas and solutions for connecting their increasingly divided workforces through technology and automation. Design/methodology/approach The paper examines major changes occurring in the workplace and how a digital workplace can solve those challenges, divided into several points. Findings The dynamics of work are changing, but the way we connect our workers has not kept pace. As a result, various factors of the changing workplace, from widening generational employee gaps to lower retention rates, present serious challenges to employee productivity and engagement. The digital workplace is the antidote. It improves productivity by unifying employees’ favorite tools in a single, user-friendly space. Digital workplace platforms have emerged as a mission-critical tool to band people, technologies, processes and information together. And when everyone’s in it together, everyone. Originality/value HR leaders are flooded with technology solutions. This paper offers insight into the benefits of a digital workplace so they can make an informed decision.

Working on digital platforms is a new form of work that, in Portugal, has not yet defined a regulated model of labour relations. This article analyses the worker profiles of various digital work platforms and their collective representation in Portugal. The diversity found in the case studies of worker profiles from each platform explains, in part, the lack of interest of labour movements in representing them. The type of tasks and the workplace contributes to the lack of interest in the search for collective representatives and demonstrates the (mis)alignments that occurred between workers and possible representatives. There is also potential for other alignments between the interests of different workers, trade union movements and associations of alternative representation

This essay presents the main trends of changes in the labor market in connection with the digitalization of the world economy. The interrelated problems of increasing labor productivity, reducing workplaces, and ensuring effective demand are considered. The authors propose considering digitalization as a way of promoting creativity in workplaces, albeit having a delayed effect due to the lag in time for the establishment of a world new economic order, during which services are becoming the main product, and digital platforms and ecosystems are the main actors in the global economy. “Creativization” is a new term suggested by the authors, which means a workplace that is being transformed by digitalization, whereby monotonous work processes are replaced by intellectually intensive operations, art elements, and unique high-performance activities.

Digital communication technologies led to a revolution in how people interact at work: relying on computer-mediated communication technologies is now a must, rather than an alternative. This empirical study investigates how colleagues in a virtual team use synchronous online communication platform in the workplace. Inspired by the conceptualisation of web-based communication platforms as tool, place or context of social construction, we explore the discursive strategies that contribute to the construction of the team’s shared sense of purpose and identity, a collegial atmosphere and consequently lead to effective collaboration. The close analyses of real-life data from a multinational workplace provide insights into the everyday communication practices of virtual team members. Our findings supplement organisational literature based on etic observations of the effectiveness of virtual work and provide a basis for further theorisations about how communication technologies affect the ecology of and discourse practices in computer-mediated communication at work.

Background: The wave of digital disruption has been experienced across different industries in the fourth industrial revolution, altering processes and procedures as well strategies of many industries. Purpose-As businesses strive to attain supremacy in their respective industries, reliance on technology has become an inevitable tool for sustainability and competitive advantage. Firms are employing novel business strategies and streamlining their operations by adapting to technology in order to transform digitally. Based on the theory of structural empowerment, we assess, from employees' perspective, the efficacy of key employee-centric digital transformation initiatives, namely, digital skills training and access to digital platforms on employees' performance through the mediating role of employee digital empowerment. Design/methodology/approach-Survey data was collected from a sample 214 employees and their 89 direct supervisors across four banking institutions in China for the purpose of this study. Correlation and regression analysis were conducted to test the hypotheses. Findings-The result of the study showed support for the positive impact of both digital skills training and employees' access to digital platforms at the workplace on job performance and also for the mediating role of employee digital empowerment. This study contributes to the empowerment literature by identifying key structural empowerment initiatives in an organization that enhance employee digital empowerment and performance at the workplace as firms transform digitally. Practical implications-The results of the study suggest that firms should view digital transformation as an employee empowerment tool which, when implemented properly, could help enhance employees' performance and the overall organizational goal achievement potentials. Hence, organizations should align their digital transformation strategy with the needs of its human resource in order to ensure overall success of such transformations. Limitations/future research-The study focuses on the banking sector only. Further research could focus on other industries that are equally affected by the waves of digital disruptions.

The purpose of the study was to assess how well fashion companies were able to sustain themselves throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by leveraging internet platforms. In spite of the numerous disruptions the fashion industry has experienced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic's effects on the workplace and the shift in consumer behaviour towards digital platforms, industry stakeholders think that digital platforms offer potential for the industry's revival because many fashion businesses were forced to close during the pandemic. The paper examines and summarises the extent to which digital platforms have been effective in fostering the long-term expansion of fashion companies and their influence on livelihoods in the COVID-19 pandemic, using a narrative literature approach. Based on productive interactions and transactions, digital platforms provide a 21st-century, cost-effective way for businesses to promote themselves. Prior to the pandemic, fashion companies were able to market their goods and services, track live events, keep an eye on trends and projections, and boost their online presence, all of which contributed to increased revenue. Notwithstanding the fact that they continue to face major obstacles that negatively impact the livelihoods of their employees, the study shows how digital platforms have been incredibly effective in helping fashion businesses, especially those in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia, to endure and flourish during COVID-19. Although African customers have become accustomed to online shopping and e-commerce, digital platforms have not been especially popular throughout the continent, as fashion designers and businesses have not properly utilised them. In order to promote fashion businesses and designers, governments and policymakers should support the development of digital infrastructure and digital literacy initiatives. Additionally, fashion brands and businesses in the supply chain should improve their knowledge and understanding of how consumers and potential clients communicate and transact in their online networks. Finally, fashion businesses and designers should invest in social media sentiment analysis tools to facilitate effective online visibility, seamless interactions, and transactions with consumers.

Abstract Enterprise social media (ESM) have largely gone ignored in discussions of the datafication practices of social media platforms. This article presents an initial step towards filling this research gap. My research question in this article regards how employees of companies using the ESM Workplace from Facebook feel that the implementation of this particular platform relates to their potential struggles for digital privacy and work–life segmentation. Methodologically, I explore this through a qualitative interview study of 21 Danish knowledge workers in different organisations using the ESM. The central analytical proposal of the article is that the interviewees express a “digital resignation” towards the implementation of the ESM. In contrast to previous discussions, this resignation cannot only be thought of as “corporately cultivated” by third parties, but must also be considered as “organisationally cultivated” by the organisations people work for. The study suggests that datafication-oriented media studies should consider organisational contexts.

With the rise of remote working due to the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, organisations today increasingly adopt mobile collaborative technologies such as instant messaging platforms, enterprise social media, and project management software to facilitate a variety of work and communication practices. While previous studies on workplace digital transformation have surfaced the wide-ranging implications of digital technologies for organisational functioning, the complicated process of integrating new technologies into an organisation’s workflow, especially in Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) settings, is hitherto understudied. Given the pressing need of digitalisation and the myriad challenges faced by SMEs, it is imperative to uncover the complexity of collective decision-making, interaction, and negotiation during the process of implementing digital technologies in the workplace environment of SMEs. As an effort to shed light on this missing link, we conducted an in-depth ethnographic case study on the dynamic process of implementing a self-developed mobile management software in a construction SME in Singapore. Drawing on technology domestication theory, a five-stage workplace technology domestication framework was developed in which various stakeholders, including the company’s CEO, office staff, shop floor workers, and the developer team, engaged in ongoing and multifaceted negotiations revolving around the application of the new technology and the changes it heralded. During the domestication process, the functionality and meanings of the software as well as employee acceptance and user experiences were continuously reconfigured by a constellation of technological, individual, organisational, and sociocultural conditions. This study uncovers the iterative and participatory nature of technology design and implementation in the workplace, thereby opening up a promising approach for SMEs to maximise benefits from digital transformation with limited resources available.

Using a case study at Universitas PGRI Wiranegara (UNIWARA), this study tries to find out the function of digital immigrant instructors in virtual communication. According to Marc Prensky's theory, this study uses a qualitative descriptive method with lecturer informants born before 1980 and involves students as source triangulation. Snowball sampling was the method used in this study, and data literacy and interviews were used for data collection. According to the study's findings, Zoom and WhatsApp are the most commonly used virtual communication platforms among digital immigrant professors. By raising courses that are relevant to the professional background of the participants, reviewing case studies of problems in the workplace related to communication science theory, and evaluating the effectiveness of communication by examining the results of assignments or students' reactions to the content and discussions in online lectures, lecturers can attract students to participate.

Virtual newsrooms have enormous potential: enabling journalists around the world to pool their knowledge, skills and perspectives within joint projects, such as the Panama Papers. These virtual newsrooms are supported by Online Collaborative Software (OCS), the most popular of which is Slack. But although many of the world’s top news organisations now use Slack, there is no empirical research examining its impact on workplace processes or culture. This article presents the results of a year-long ethnographic study of a global digital news outlet, whose remote journalists collaborate, almost exclusively, via Slack. We found that the platform deepened relationships and enabled new creative practices across geographic regions. However, it also contributed to the erasure of the line between private and professional spheres for workers, and introduced new opportunities for management to shape newsroom culture. We argue that the concept of ‘space’ as developed by Harvey can helpfully frame the analysis of these new, important digital platforms.

The article is devoted to the study of the application of digital tools for online business. Due to the COVID-2019 pandemic, a large number of entrepreneurs have been forced to digitally transform their businesses in various areas of activity. Consequently, such conditions have given impetus to the creation of e-business and virtual store, which are relevant today. The number of internet users is growing every minute, as the facts show. According to the data, there are about 30 million internet users worldwide. Therefore, the number of online sales is growing and will continue to grow. This article reviewed the online platforms through which online commerce is conducted and the marketing solutions that are effective for these online platforms. The paper also analyzed online orders of goods/services that were in demand in 2020-2021 by customers. The authors found that shoppers were not spending much more on goods/services, but simply resorted to a different form of shopping, finding a place where it was easy and convenient to go shopping online. The study has gained importance in tools to improve the state of online business using digital solutions. Among these was the creation of a virtual store, using which there is no need to go to a physical store, but buy and order goods/services through gadgets. The convenience of using such an innovative idea is reflected in the demand of customers who do not want to waste their time going to the store, but agree to buy goods online without even touching them. Based on the research, the authors created the algorithm to build the stages of successful operation of a virtual store, which makes it possible to obtain the most positive effect. Among the stages of this algorithm the authors predicted to empower staff through the creation of a digital workplace. They also identified the benefits of the digital workplace. According to the results of the analysis, it was found that the digital workplace satisfies the work requirements of both the management and the employee. The basics of the application of digital tools are shown on the example of a foreign company eBay, which founded this and created a virtual store. These digital innovations have a positive impact on the growth of the national and information economy and their further development.

The article analyses the process of decision-making to regulate platform work in the European Union. The author underlines that the EU strived to introduce legal certainty and improve the working conditions of platform workers. Despite the fact that many platform workers are classified as self-employed, their status remains unclear, since it is often difficult to distinguish between real and bogus self-employment, which the employer uses to evade social payments. There are two key principles of the new directive: it allows to determine correctly the status of people working on digital platforms, and sets rules for the use of algorithmic systems in the workplace. At the same time, the conclusion is drawn that the difference in approaches among member states, political groups of the European Parliament, and EU institutions turns the regulation of platform employment into the most controversial EU files, resulting in the adoption of compromise legislation on minimum standards.

The rapid development of digitalisation has tremendously changed the way business operates. In recent years, the on-demand economy or gig economy model has received positive acceptance worldwide due to its convenience and flexibility, both to business owners and consumers. More importantly, the on-demand economy offers a variety of job prospects to workers via digital platforms. These workers are known as 'virtual workers' or 'crowd workers’ are classified as 'self-employed' or 'independent contractors'. This new employment model has received much attention from the legal and human rights perspectives. The classical employer-employee relationship that is not transparent in the on-demand economy has resulted in the exclusion of liability and responsibility of platform companies to respect fundamental human rights protections of the workers. Digital platform companies are criticised for taking advantage of the weakened labour standards and protections, such as lack of collective bargaining power, inadequate social security protection, unlimited working hours, and inadequate safety and health policies at the workplace. In addition, the workers at these platforms reportedly experienced irregular payment schemes. This led to vertical inequality and discrimination between these two groups of workers. Hence, this paper seeks to explore and examine human rights protection concerning workers in the on-demand economy. Additionally, this paper will present a specific discussion on vertical inequality between the two groups of workers and thereafter recommend the need for determination of employment status for the platform workers and also the need to ensure essential human rights protections for all workers irrespective of their employment status.

The article discusses the impact of digital technologies (digital platforms, online services, digital products, etc.) on the enterprises business processes. Practice shows that in order to maintain its competitive position in markets, innovative agile companies include in their strategies digital transformation as a key direction of development. All these changes create a high level of uncertainty for employees of organizations trying to adapt to these new conditions (for example, automating operations that were previously performed manually, no need to attach an employee to an office workplace, etc.), and require the development of new competencies and skills in them. In this regard, along with digitalization, an equally important task for organizations is the task of developing their employees. So the article provides an overview of the digital changes impact on the employees work in organizations, identifies the problems that arise when introducing digital technologies into the business processes of enterprises, and proposes an algorithm for the digital transformation of enterprises in the SME sector.

Background: eHealth makes use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to improve health. In the digital age, the use of eHealth applications and other health-related applications has gained popularity, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the pandemic, many uncertainties have arisen, causing stress and affecting the mental health of many skilled workers in the digital industry, particularly in the ICT, computing, and creative media industries. eHealth applications have the potential to benefit people's health. As a prerequisite for effective implementation of eHealth for mental wellness (EHMW), this paper examines the acceptance of EHMW among digital workers in Malaysia. The objectives of this research are two-fold: 1) To explore the acceptance of EHMW among digital workers in a local Premier Digital Tech Institution (PDTI), and 2) To explore how these talents' demographic profiles, mental health literacy and workplace wellness influence their acceptance of EHMW. Methods: This research surveyed 41 digital workers who played vital roles in providing digital skills at a tertiary education level. Results: Most respondents agreed that eHealth was appropriate for managing mental wellness. Among the three eHealth domains for managing mental wellness, the acceptance level is the highest for the application domain of "interacting for health", with male respondents more likely to accept the use of EHMW. Conclusions: This small-scale survey could not fully examine the acceptance of eHealth and its usage patterns for mental wellness among digital workers in Malaysia. Future research will target more digital workers in Malaysia. This research addresses the research gap on the eHealth perspectives of digital workers on their acceptance, and the potential influence of demographic profiles, mental health literacy, and workplace wellness on EHMW's acceptance of digital health tools/platforms to promote their mental wellness.

Abstract This article leverages the Nuit Debout social movement in France and contemporary French science fiction to explore the links between information technologies and economic precarity. To accomplish this, it foregrounds a short story born of the movement, Ketty Steward's “ALIVE,” which follows three contingent workers as they act on, for, and through the megacorporation ALIVE's proprietary platform. Employees access this amalgamation of ratings-based social network and Amazon-like marketplace by way of digital interfaces that the author formally reproduces with modifications to typeface and page layout. The result is much more than a literary portrayal of the so-called Uberization of work; instead, readers of “ALIVE” confront a dystopian tangle of code that, when unraveled, points to how workers can be compelled to manage themselves. Further, the story charts certain historical processes that would usher France into the neoliberal era through a series of intertexts, two of which the article takes as a starting point for establishing Nuit Debout as an inheritor of Mai 68 and for grasping the rise of self-management as a strategy for disciplining labor. These arguments serve as a foundation for a reading of the narrative platform of “ALIVE” that registers the increasingly prominent role played by algorithmic management in the distribution of workplace control today. The article concludes that Steward's tale not only anticipated the informatic enactment of the aforementioned strategy but, more incisively, reveals how it maintains “floating” surplus populations by facilitating the regulation of those workers’ hope.

This In today's digital era, individuals are seamlessly connected across various digital platforms, from social media giants like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to knowledge-sharing hubs like StackOverflow and Quora. The relentless advancement of digital technologies has ushered in a wave of unprecedented accessibility and connectivity. While this transformation has brought tremendous benefits to society, organizations face new and intricate challenges in adapting to evolving task preferences, performance expectations, and operational requirements. In response to this dynamic landscape, this paper proposes an innovative paradigm shift aimed at enhancing quality, efficiency, and time-to-completion for critical tasks. Central to this transformation is the concept of digitizing manual processes, which offers a transformative approach capable of significantly reducing task durations while ensuring heightened efficiency and minimizing associated risks. One illustrative example involves the automation of employee attendance tracking within a company, seamlessly integrating data into a centralized database. This digitized process not only expedites task completion but also facilitates the generation of detailed reports presented graphically, allowing human resource managers to make informed decisions swiftly. This is just one instance where digitalization outperforms traditional manual methods, leading us to conclude that digitalization is a pivotal strategy for boosting organizational productivity. Moreover, traditional practices in managing meetings, characterized by manual participant notifications, have presented substantial inefficiencies. Secretaries often bear the brunt of coordinating meeting schedules, making phone calls, and sending emails to ensure all involved parties possess accurate information. This paper embarks on a comprehensive investigation to ameliorate this situation by injecting a digitalization approach into the existing meeting management system.

There have been many levels of digital transformation from the First, Second and Third Industrial Revolutions. The most advanced level of technology, known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), is currently being encountered. The 4IR introduces technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, robotics, etc. These 4IR transformational technologies also brought the emergence of the gig economy, which enjoyed enhancement by technologies of the 4IR such as big data, that improved the lives of both digital platform workers and consumers worldwide. The gig economy relies on two key role players, namely the consumer, and the digital platform worker. This is evident as there is outsourcing of work done through Internet-based platforms such as Uber Eats, Mr Delivery, Bolt and Airbnb. The Covid-19 outbreak significantly impacted the growth of the digital economy and increased the number of digital platform workers. However, digital platform workers are not protected by labour and social security laws in South Africa. This is because these workers do not qualify to be regarded as ‘employees’ within the labour law framework. For example, s 213 of the Labour Relations Act of 1995 and s 1 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act of 1997 provide for a definition of an employee to the exclusion of independent contractors and, unfortunately, digital platform workers are categorised as independent contractors. This article notes that this exclusionary definition does not accord with the intent and purposes of s 23 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. The article further notes that the limited definition of an employee exposes digital platform workers to challenges such as unfair labour practices and unconducive working conditions, which are also unsafe and unhealthy sometimes. Owing to digital platform workers not being regarded as employees, they also do not enjoy social protection and can therefore not receive social security benefits such as unemployment benefits when they lose their jobs. As it stands, digital platform workers are independent contractors. The introduction of 4IR and the Covid-19 outbreak have made the world dependent on the gig economy and therefore this article argues that this frequent use of the gig economy necessitates the extension of the definition of ‘employee’ to include digital platform workers. This will ensure a definition that encapsulates the changing times in the workplace as a result of technology.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has emerged as a crucial component of education, equipping students with essential skills for personal and interpersonal success. This synthesis explores the interplay between digital tools and learning, with a focus on interactivity, emotional literacy, and the evolving nature of education. The integration of technology reshapes traditional educational paradigms by emphasizing performative and collaborative dimensions of learning. Theoretical frameworks such as social constructivism highlight the role of digital tools in fostering collective meaning-making and situated learning. Meanwhile, the transformative potential of technology in early childhood education underscores its dual role as both a challenge and a resource. Digital tools offer significant advantages in promoting SEL by providing interactive, accessible, and personalized learning experiences. The integration of AI and other advanced technologies further enhances the efficacy of these tools. Despite concerns about diminishing face-to-face interactions, intentional applications of digital tools can bolster socialemotional skills, from empathy to collaboration. Examples include interactive platforms fostering peer review, storytelling techniques, and role-play activities tailored for both graduate students and preschoolers. These innovations align with future workplace needs, emphasizing emotional intelligence, teamwork, and adaptability. This discussion advocates for a balanced integration of technology, ensuring that the human elements of education-collaboration, creativity, and social connectionremain central amidst technological advancements. This paper also explores the intersection of SEL and technology, examining how digital platforms, applications, and resources contribute to the development of emotional and social competencies.

<p class="0abstract">Due to the rise of the digital era, various industries demand employees with a proficient communicative English skills, but many are still not up to par with the demands. One solution for this is to provide communicative English trainings for employees, especially support staffs, yet face-to-face trainings have many limitations, which can be overcome through mobile learning. Due to the fact that mobile learning can be accessed anytime and anywhere by anyone, the Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) is one of the platforms that can be used to curb the issue. This paper aimed to identify the perceptions of support staffs towards using ‘ìSPEAK: English for the Workplace’ in MOOC. A total of 30 respondents were selected through purposive sampling and a survey through a 4-point Likert scale questionnaire was given out. The main findings showed that overall, the support staffs have a positive attitude towards using ìSPEAK. Nevertheless, half of them were unsure of the reliability of the sources available in the course. However, the findings of this study implied that ìSPEAK could be one of the training alternatives for support staffs to improve and increase their communicative ability. Future research can look into designing and developing various modules of communicative English in various mobile learning platforms, which could cater to different levels of proficiency of learners.</p>

The overwhelming use of information and communications technologies (ICT) that is being implemented in organizations makes it necessary to analyze the effects of teleworking on employees. The objective of this review was to analyze the scientific literature published on the relationship between teleworking and work-related technostress in the post-COVID-19 context. The method used had a qualitative approach, carrying out a systematic review that respected the PRISMA guidelines. 20 empirical investigations found in Scopus and Google Scholar were analyzed, published between 2019 and 2023. The results categorically indicate that there is a close relationship between teleworking and work-related technostress. The factors are social isolation, complex software, conflict between work and the personal environment, the absence of interpersonal relationships, and technological uncertainty. Therefore, it is suggested that organizations promote work autonomy and effective self-leadership, in addition to considering measures such as training in the use of digital platforms, the implementation of high-quality software that allows better interaction, and the organization of periodic face-to-face activities.

AimsEngagement with members is an important issue for the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) and an area for ongoing development. This is an issue that extends to Psychiatry trainees and the Psychiatric Trainees’ Committee (PTC) has adopted increasing engagement as one of its key aims. Divisional representatives in different areas of the UK had noted that trainees had limited knowledge of the PTC or its roles and projects both within the College and local areas. To improve this it was decided to pilot a project that established a social media platform for trainees to improve communication between the PTC, it's representatives and trainees. It was decided that Workplace (a professional version of Facebook) would be used. This had already been established in the Severn Deanery.MethodNorthern Ireland (NI) and the East of England (EoE) deaneries were selected as pilot areas for the project. Preparation for the project included collaboration with trainees from the Severn deanery and meeting with the RCPsych Digital team. A scoping questionnaire was circulated to trainees in each deanery.Following this, two closed groups were initiated on Workplace in August 2019 for Northern Ireland and East of England trainees.ResultResults from the survey sent prior to the social media pages being established indicated there was appetite among trainees for the project. The pages were established in July 2019. The pilot project was promoted by representatives. In the initial phases, approximately 40% of trainees signed up. Information regarding college and local events, committee meeting updates and training opportunities was disseminated on the platform. There was evidence of early use by trainees outside of the representative group. This however was not sustained and gradually use of the platform reduced over the pilot period, both in postings and membership. A further questionnaire circulated in July 2020 highlighted trainees’ concerns relating to the platform, including concerns around data protection and a high number of notifications associated with the Workplace medium. The ultimate impact on engagement was also felt to be minimal.ConclusionFollowing feedback and increasing usage costs by Workplace, it was decided not to continue with a nationwide role out of the project. COVID-19 has seen the successful use of platforms such as Microsoft Teams and these may be considered in the future, given their integration with existing trust systems.

Graduate Algerian economic sciences students, who will be future university teachers or workplace managers, are urged to use the English language. However, most of them reveal that they are unable to use the English language appropriately. The main aim in this paper is to depict students’ difficulties and help them improve their academic language performance. This paper describes the teaching and learning situations of English for Business and Economics (EBE) in the Department of Economic Sciences at the University of Tlemcen. The investigator used a questionnaire and two structured interviews. The sampling included EBE learners and English for specific purposes teachers as well as workplace managers (former EBE students). The main findings in this investigation confirmed that students had poor target language proficiency. Results revealed that the content of the actual EBE course was inappropriate to learners’ needs. The investigator wants to integrate new technologies as the government supplies digital platforms to the Algerian universities. Keywords: Algerian, tertiary education, English, Economics, business students.

Objective: today, a significant part of professional tasks are performed in the digital environment, on digital platforms, in virtual and other meetings. This necessitates a critical reflection of traditional views on the problem of accessible environment and digital accessibility, taking into account the basic universal needs of persons with disabilities. Methods: a gap between the traditional legal perspective on special working conditions for persons with disabilities and the urgent need of a digital workplace (digital environment) clearly shows lacunas in the understanding of accessibility, which are identified and explored with formal-legal and doctrinal methods. The multifaceted aspects of digital inclusion are revealed based on an informative approach to legislation. It leads, among other things, to searching for recommendations which would fill this gap and contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and responsible legal, social and technological environment. Results: the research has led to a conclusion that the existing legal, social and technological paradigms need to be re-evaluated. This reevaluation should aim to develop a more inclusive and benevolent concept of accessible environment that takes into account the diversity of human experience and needs, and a wide range of behavioral and cognitive characteristics. Creating special conditions in the workplace for those with overt and covert health problems should become an integral part of the employer's focus, along with improving management efficiency.Scientific novelty: covert (hidden) health problems have traditionally been understudied, although they include a range of mental and physical impairments, which, like explicit health problems, vary in their origin, intensity, and permanent or episodic character. This study fills a gap in the issues of disability and its legal protection, taking into account the trend of digital inclusion, the dynamic labor activity of today, and the wide range of human abilities and needs.Practical significance: the aspects of hidden or latent disability considered in the study provide a different perspective at employment, focusing on the workplace conditions that could be created. Employers may be unaware of the need to create special working conditions for those with hidden health problems. This results in negative effects on unemployment, increased sick leave, limited opportunities in the workplace, and more. Employees are often reluctant to disclose their non-obvious health problems to employers; hence, employers should facilitate disclosure of such information by creating relevant conditions. Such an approach will contribute to the legal protection of this category of employees and to further development of the existing legislative regulation, since the latter does not fully comply with today's needs and changed reality.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the structure, the peculiarities of functioning and the socio-economic and political effects of the «platform capitalism». The basis of this model is the network effects produced by the integrated information and communication infrastructure, which contribute to the monopolization and the constant expansion of platform companies into new areas. The principle of functioning of this infrastructure is the continuous collection and further monetization of data extracted from the interactions of individuals among themselves or with one of the elements of a digitalized economy or government structures. Such an infrastructure — forms a potential threat of strengthening state and corporate control over citizens. In addition, the activities of platform companies produce negative effects on the labor market, reinforcing the process of precarization of employment. The integrated information and communication infrastructure of platform companies form a system of a kind of «digital Taylorism», which deprives the employee of autonomy and privacy in the workplace. The influence of digitalization, subjected to the technocratic logic of the neoliberal model of governance in democratic countries, strengthens the de-politicization of relations between the citizen and the state and further changes the balance of power between labor and capital in favor of the latter. Large-scale protests of the last years against the companies of “capitalism of platforms” demonstrated the structural contradictions of this model and formed new forms of organization and actions of grassroots workers of the “digital economy”.

As demand for rapid grocery delivery surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, Australia’s supermarket duopoly set about transforming relations of labour, technology and logistics to secure dominance in the growing sector. I consider the rise of ‘dark jobs’ of the supermarket and what this means for affected workers. My research encompasses in-depth interviews with 17 supermarket workers, including personal shoppers and dark store workers. I also draw upon corporate documents and media statements released during the pandemic, as well as insights gleaned through my work within Australia’s union movement. I argue that the transformations underway result in three major developments. First, the intensification of supermarket work to adhere to the temporal logics of the on-demand economy, enabled by the increasing use of digital devices. Second, the absorption of precarious workers via digital labour platforms into the traditional firm which may undermine existing job security. Third, a blurring distinction between retail and logistical spaces with consequences for union representation that may erode workplace conditions. Taken together, the supermarket becomes a powerful testing ground in which the logics of on-demand platforms are transforming conventional employment settings and practices.

The global workforce has witnessed a transformative shift towards remote work arrangements, accelerated by advancements in digital technology and the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This paradigm shift has necessitated a reevaluation of traditional workplace dynamics and a greater emphasis on leveraging digital tools to facilitate remote work. With the traditional office setting no longer the norm, organizations are increasingly turning to virtual collaboration platforms, communication tools, and digital solutions to enable remote work. The rise of remote work presents both opportunities and challenges for organizations. On one hand, it offers employees greater flexibility, reduces overhead costs associated with maintaining physical office spaces, and enables access to a wider talent pool. On the other hand, remote work can lead to feelings of isolation, communication barriers, and challenges in maintaining employee engagement and productivity. Employee engagement is not just about satisfaction with the job; it's about fostering a deep connection at the emotional between employees and their work and the organization they belong to. It encompasses enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment towards organizational goals, reflecting a sense of purpose and belonging within the company. As the modern workplace undergoes a seismic shift towards remote work arrangements, maintaining and nurturing this emotional connection poses a significant challenge. Remote work offers undeniable benefits, including flexibility and cost advantages, yet it also introduces unique hurdles to sustaining employee engagement. One such challenge is the preservation of a strong team spirit across geographically dispersed members. Without the physical proximity of a traditional office, communication can become fragmented, hindering team cohesion and leaving individuals feeling isolated and uninformed. Moreover, the absence of face-to-face interactions can obscure recognition of accomplishments, leading to diminished morale and motivation among remote workers. However, the digital landscape provides an array of tools to address these challenges and cultivate a thriving remote team environment. Communication platforms, such as chat features, video conferencing, and instant messaging, bridge the geographical divide, facilitating seamless interaction and information sharing among team members. Collaboration tools, including project management software and shared documents, foster transparency and teamwork, enabling remote employees to collaborate effectively despite physical separation.

Problem and goal. Within the framework of the study, based on the data of the Workplace Learning Report study, specialists from the USA, Canada and other countries, the transformation of corporate training over the past decades was analyzed, the main problems and challenges of companies/enterprises in the process of additional professional training of employees and ways to solve them were identified. The main problems of corporate training at the present time, as in the past, include budget deficit and search for free intervals in the schedules of employees for educational sessions. And the solution was the growth of online training, the use of online platforms, which made it easier to find time in the sche- dule of employees for training, create opportunities for flexible editing of educational content, and for managers it was easier to evaluate additional professional training thanks to the control tools built into online platforms. Methodology. However, it turned out that not all age categories of employees are ready to expand online training: older age workers prefer traditional or mixed training, as opposed to young people. Results. The study found that the degree of digitalization correlates with the size of the company: the comparative effectiveness of digital tools for additional professional education increases with the scale of the system in which they are applied: a deployed digital educational platform requires very few resources to expand to new branches and employees, rather than classical educational formats that require personal participation of teaching staff. Conclusion. The main trends in the development of corporate training in the coming years are described.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world; the educational system has altered too. The pandemic instantaneously transformed the traditional form of organizing and implementing education. The previously existing approaches to distance learning which involved using article-based learning resources have been replaced with a digital format. This shift required all participants involved in learning activity to have both appropriate digital competencies and specialized communication platforms in conjunction with libraries of digital resources. For the first time in history, education was delivered completely outside educational institutions, which required considerable effort on the part of educational organizations, parents, and students themselves to organize a remote workplace. For the first time in history, students and teachers were stratified in terms of their digital competencies levels and the feasibility of carrying out learning activity remotely. At the end of the pandemic, it is obvious that using only distance learning in any educational stage in impossible. This is due to not only a complete absence of approaches to regulation and requirements for a remote workplace, but also a lack of funding sources for its creation and functioning. Under these conditions, educational institutions have realized that the learning environment is not exclusively confined to their walls. Moreover, students and their places of study, stay, and residence are its cornerstones. All these factors require modern education to make fundamentally different efforts to ensure the operation of the system and going beyond its framework. First and foremost, the focus ought to be on a particular student’s needs and capabilities.

The essay aims to study how the European and national legislation has regulated the risk of opacity of algorithmic technologies used in the workplace and to verify if the transparency tools adopted are sufficient and well-conceived. The author, after a general overview on the signifi cance of the algorithmic transparency value in the workplace, examines the most relevant regulatory instruments, focusing on the novelties introduced in the Italian system by the d.lgs. n. 104/2022. According to the author, the EU Commission proposal to improve the working conditions of people working through digital platforms and the provisions of the d.lgs. n. 104/2022 will contribute to rebalance information asymmetries in the employment relationship and to correct the lack of transparency of the automated decisions making systems used in the workplace.
