Changes in the information landscape suggest that it is necessary to acquire an information culture, i.e. technical and practical knowledge of digital tools and awareness of the issues and impacts of information to be retained, disseminated or avoided. However, universities do not systematically integrate training programmes that take this aspect into account. Our research work is situated in the context of a major school, INSA Lyon, which aims to train 'Humanist Engineers'. It questions the possibility for a university library, on the example of the Marie Curie library, to mobilise the necessary resources to encourage the setting up of a training course for information literacy. By crossing the concept of 'competence', its theoretical and practical implications for the construction of competence in the learner, with the concepts of 'information literacy' and 'information culture', we propose a model for the design of teaching-learning aimed at the construction of information literacy. This model becomes our grid for reading and analysing the documents and statements collected. All our data collection, qualitative analysis of documents, interviews with teachers and department heads, and students after the quantitative analysis of a questionnaire survey, contribute to our understanding of our research object, which is presented in this thesis. Despite the limits of this work, inherent to our posture involved in our research field, our global vision of teaching-learning aiming at the construction of information literacy shows the relevance of a training framework, but reveals the blocking points, with in particular the absence of a common vision of the information literacy necessary for engineers. As a result, students' consideration of the components of information literacy remains very heterogeneous. The blockages also lie outside the vision of information literacy and concern training for competences: conception of teaching still impregnated with the epistemic model of transmitted knowledge, collaborations often in a disciplinary or multidisciplinary mode, student rankings that prioritise disciplines, projects sometimes oriented by solutions for a client. Training for informational competence at INSA Lyon would require, before defining complex situations conducive to the mobilisation of skills, a consensus around the 'humanist engineer'. His technical and scientific culture would be recognised; he would be able to assert himself as an engineer particularly suited to relational work, not denying his role and his political responsibility in society, anxious to rely on collective intelligence and the sharing of reliable information within the company. Its training would require an epistemic framework of socio-constructed knowledge, interdisciplinarity, reflection on information and the construction of knowledge with projects put into perspective beyond the current needs of the company. The shared vision of the engineer's output profile, to be constructed according to the programme approach, would allow teacher-librarians to work on new proposals, around information concepts and tools. Our study calls for further work on the pedagogical transformation of higher education and opens up prospects for collaborative research between information and communication sciences, education and training sciences and other disciplines to re-problematise and re-contextualise information literacy in order to develop training for 21st century information literacy

This study is about the evolution of third-year undergraduate psychology students' information practices. We look at the changes the digital world has brought about in students' information culture. We defend the idea that the web transforms values, representations, and practices within academic culture. We discuss this hypothesis through consideration of the document as a material form and through analysis of the editorial dimension of the document. This work confronts data obtained from interviews, with students and university professors as well as contributions to the Moodle learning Platform, and semiotic analyses of documents and websites. This research explores the notions of circulation and hybridation as applied to information practice

The aim of this work is to increase knowledge of Information Science, its basic concepts and its acceptance as a branch of university education, based on the example of the Universities of Applied Science in Geneva, recently created as a result of the Confederation's political decisions. Our research makes use of the concept of "disciplinarisation" such as it is frequently used in Social Sciences. The analysis of the institutional, professional and disciplinary fields, allows us to circumscribe both the conditions of emergence of a scientific field which wishes to strengthen its status, and the way the disciplinary field is strongly influenced by political decisions, outside the disciplinary field, but whose consequences can play a capital role on the visibility of the discipline. We also take into account the opinion of students, as they will soon be the main actors in the professional field of reference. These ideas lead us to consider teaching Library and Information Science and to propose guidelines, that will lay down the theoretical foundations of a professional university education

Learning a foreign language is by excellence the occasion to meet with the Other’s culture. And the knowledge appropriation relating to this foreign culture permits, beyond the mere learning of a language, the acquisition of communication competency in a language foreign to one’s own. Such dual and reciprocal process, enabling one to set up relationships on a reciprocal basis with people belonging to a foreign community, allows to open one’s mind to a different world; a world within which the Foreigner is naturally fully immerged. The very processes of teaching/learning in a foreign langue/culture happens in a given educational context which naturally shapes and frames the conceptions and practices, in which the teacher and the learners are engaged in a language course, where the primary language/culture and the target langue/culture are confronted, the teacher with his didactic convictions and the learners with their own representations. The research theme of the thesis focuses on the complex relationships between the situational variables and the teaching practices. This research is focused on the teaching of french culture, as organized and practiced within the framework of the university education in Korea, with the objective to find ways to adapt the didactic choices to educational conditions subjected to the internal and external constraints, of a specific institutional space. To meet its objectives, the thesis describes first the fundamental characteristics of the Korean system in terms of socio-educational, linguistic, cultural and didactic factors. The educational concepts, the relationship with foreigners and the various semi-traditional and semi-evolutive modes of knowledge transfer/acquisition are being presented. Starting form the description and analysis of online data and surveys, a study is conducted on the influence, contextual variables may have upon the very concept of teaching/learning of a foreign culture/language and on its actual practice. Then, are highlighted the fundamental issues related to the actual implementation of the teaching of the French culture within the university framework. This is tackled under different angles including socio-institutional change factors, curriculum settings and the methodological practices. The thesis describes the institutional modifications brought by political decisions, answering to the increasing interest for cultural studies within the framework of French teaching, the didactic orientations of those, in its remarkable evolution and the prospects for teaching/learning adopted in the teaching practices. Consideration is also given to, following the description and analysis of data collected through direct surveys, interviews with key-players involved in the higher education, documentations related to teaching programs and questionnaires, some research themes and suggestions related to the formalization of the teaching of the French culture within the Korean university context

Image literacy is part of the school curriculum; it is shared teaching with no official instructions, no referent teacher and no recognition of a specific culture which would allow the pupils to acquire skills and become enlightened actors of our society where image is pervasive. So there is a need to define and build this culture of the image by rooting it in a more recognized information culture attached to a specific school subject and its scientific input. To meet this need, I studied in-depth the official instructions of the Ministry of Education, led surveys and interviews with pupils and teachers to grasp their representations and practices. The concept of image is a broad one, so I focused on the photographic image which is paradoxical: it is extensively used by the pupils in their sociability (eg.selfies) and in the media (magazines, the internet), but at the same time it is very little used by the teachers to build knowledge and even often as mere illustrations in the school books. The consequence is the inability of the pupils to decode and decipher a photograph. At this stage I called upon a third partner - professional photographers. Only they can properly explain the three layers of a photography: its technicity, its aesthetics and its significance. The product of this research work: a collection of existing resources, new pedagogical tools (a lexicon, and a corpus of images chosen for their potential to educate), methods using games, which I was able to experiment with a group of Terminales. The final outcome is a list of the skills to develop throughout the educational path and a whole new triangular mediation: documentary, photographic, and inside the school framework

The object of this study is to show that the evolution of the Didactics of Cultures-Languages is tightly linked to that of the concept of culture. Only e few decades were indeed necessary for the discipline to include a cross-cultural dimension. Thus, the present analysis is an illustration that the discipline evolves in accordance with the latest transformations of the concept of culture itself. These ideological changes have deeply altered the language, the culture, the methodology, the epistemology and affected the teachers and the learners. A mere historical description of the phenomenon is not what the present study will limit itself to ; the purpose is to question the future to propose, in the wake of today's news trends in the culture, ways and means which tend to reject the ideology of progress in favor of a humanist approach, not deprived of a good sense of reality, in order to serve first and foremost those who are the primary subjects of the discipline's teaching

Can the scientific and technical information auxiliary of the historical science builds up, in itself, an historical study ? as an informational product and exclusive activity of a specialized professional corpus, scientific and technical information (ist) - such as books, newspapers or any mode of representation - is an established cultural fact. By this right, it can be the object of a cultural historical study. Studies in the humanities and latin-american society which are considered through ist, constitute the instrumental framework of this demonstration. The institutions in question are displayed in the introductory chapter consecrated to the french apparatus' evolutions and stakes in research and higher education between 1945 and 1990. Four parts which intersect the diachronic and thematic dimensions, are then set to work. The first, french documentary sources specialized in latin america allows one to recognize the characteristic features of documentary material. The second, latin americanism in france : genesis and evolution of the specialized research focuses on ist's producers and users. The intersecting study of different representative data banks is the third part's main object : data banks and the humanities and social sciences : the national center of scientific research and the singular role of the data bank "latin america". The broadening of the cooperative space, set up for the scientific community in the last decade of the century, is examined in the fourth and last part : scientific and technical information confronted with the technological transformations of the 1990's it is clear that in the light of this work, retracing the history of a scientific field makes us understand its transmission modalities. The analysis of ist helps to have a more precise vision of its producers and users

The « intercultural » is rarely defined by researchers or media as it is perceived as transparent while its interpretations and applications vary in many ways. This leads to misunderstandings and ambiguous positioning. In parallel, several critics and reorientation propositions arise. I intend to define the scope of the concept and its integration in educational contexts. This study is based on the analysis of six focus groups involving lecturers (-researchers) specialised in intercultural communication in higher education in Finland. It reviews the different perceptions of "the intercultural" that can be found through their discourses. I use discourse analysis from French authors, more particularly the theories of enunciation (Kerbrat-Orecchioni, 2009 ; Marnette, 2005) and an approach to dialogism inspired by Bakhtin (1977) who stated that all discourses include the voice of the Other (Rabatel, 2008; Vion, 2005). Mapping the presence of voices in the discourses of lecturers helped me demonstrate how these voices participate in the co-construction of their identity and what their impact on the teacher's conceptualization of interculturality is. The analysis revealed that a) discourses about "the intercultural" are shared in spite of its polysemic definitions and approaches and b) the different representations of the concept can vary in the speech of the same teacher, showing contradictions that can be a problem when teaching a savoir-être (life skills) to learners. This study also aimed at finding the place of a renewed interculturality in Finnish higher education and intended to dissociate the image of the intercultural as it is promoted in the country from what is actually taught in practice: the latest and ongoing changes seem to have very little impact on the way these practitioners talk about the "intercultural". I conclude asking the question of how the Finnish government can promote a coherent Intercultural Education without offering its teachers/researchers a training that could help them recognize the diverse diversities implied by a renewed interculturality

If some obstacles exist as far as French learning in Madagascar is concerned, they definitely do not originate from the opacity of the signifier since the French language was introduced in Madagascar more than one century ago. Thus, the problem of most Malagasy-speaking pupils and students does not only apply to linguistic system even though the competence in this level is often seen as an obvious gap. However, it could as well be related with culture which results from a complicated system of elements in interaction. This research is based on a survey conducted on the students in Faculté des Lettres et Sciences Humaines at the University of Antananarivo. The survey revealed, among other things, that the complex rapport which the learner has with school, with knowledge, with the present languages, with the set of values in societies, with the others, with the world in general, could, in the case, present itself as a factor which blocks or – on the contrary – as a factor which favours learning

Among the technical and scientific studies, the evolution of the computer sciences draws attention. From the 1980s, more and more men have chosen this field but in the same time, the number of women has remained the same. To explain this masculinisation, we have considered several hypotheses. First, we have observed computer science inherited representations from both mathematics and technology, especially at school. Then, we have narrated a psycho-history of computers to bring to light the power phantasms of computer's founding fathers. We have seen how computers open a window on a virtual world of rules where computer scientists play God. Thereafter, this computer fantasy reached computer scientists through science-fiction and micro-computers. By studying computer scientists' discourses and questionnaires completed by first-year science students, we observe the computer scientists' image has changed in the past 30 years. Before the micro-computer, ICT jobs were service industry scientific jobs. They were quite attractive to female scientists. Then, the representation of the computer scientist sticks on a man solely enthralled by his computer. However, computer scientists have many motivations and interests which have led them to choose this career. Unfortunately, women have difficulty in finding their place because of the stereotype pregnance. Moreover, in opposition to men, female students often choose this career thanks to their representation of their future job which is in touch with the reality of the workplace. It appears to be crucial to communicate about the ICT jobs at each step of school counseling

This thesis questions the place of ICT in music conservatories in France. Where a ‘digital revolution’ is supposed to affect the worlds of education, our analyses show that, on the contrary, few of the changes announced can be observed in both teaching and learning, in production and distribution of educational ICT. From an original methodological approach combining discourse analysis, fieldwork and socio-economic analysis of cultural and educational industries, our analyses let us elaborate three sets of observations. First, the collection of (rhetorical) topoï about digital educational media shows consistent elements of a 'major project' of digitization of education. The hopes and promises that characterize this project affect the main aspects of its organization. Secondly, this project is based on the belief that ICT (educational or presented as such) could work as tools of re-mediation, in a world suffering from a lack of mediations: institutions that fail to keep their public interested, isolated teachers, publishers or readers without users. Thirdly, the existence of the an ICT economic sector is a major aspect of the ‘communicational’ project presented above. However, our analyses show that the conditions for a structured market are not met, although experiments can be observed at different levels

If the long distance training programs have evolved and benefited from information technologies in order to help the relationship between the learner and the knowledge, the systems that are in place have not been very successful. The reasons why people are reluctant to use such systems are probably due to the many obstacles that one must overcome in order to design, set up and carry out these training programs. In fact, before generalizing their use, it seemed useful to us to think about the obstacles that still needed to be removed. This way, our goals would have a chance to be achieved. Our first task was to try to identify the parameters that would help or hinder these new teaching practices. Thus, we could try to imagine and create favourable conditions that would enable us to overcome these difficulties. These conditions would mainly be actions to improve the efficiency of the training programs. These are called assumptions of action or “the assumptions that establish a link between a goal to obtain and an action to be set up. ”(Berthon 2000) In addition, we pose as an assumption that these devices are complex systems. In order for the actions undertaken by the designers to be relevant and effective, they must be induced by an analysis of the teaching institution, using a systematic approach. Regarding this assumption, the systematic approach of Engestrom, which skilfully combines these concepts into an organized whole, seemed to us, to be a useful resource, making it possible for us to induce the actions to be undertaken in this particular context of long-distance training through technologies. These actions were subsequently observed and studied, using this same framework( a framework which had already been used) for the designing of the system. Thus, our objective was to propose an approach which would enable us to conceive a relevant scenario of long distance training and to popularize it through the information technologies. Next, we could study the effects and the validity of the actions that this suggested

This research focuses on teaching literature at a university-level French language department. It questions the concept of literary culture through the concepts of “literary canon”, “minor” literature, following G. Deleuze’s terminology, and their contextualization on the one hand, and on the other, through the implementation of teaching practices aiming at transmitting / building it. This research, rooted in human sciences because of its fields of study – literature and didactics – and as a consequence, being relatively subjective, is focused on a specific case, the one where our questions first emerged from: the French department at Birzeit University in Palestine. This approach allows us to enhance the specificities of this context while drawing at the same time some features that could be generalized, or at least that could open some opportunities for transferable reflections on other contexts. In conducting this study an inductive and comprehensive approach has been favored. A mixed-method approach or triangulation was used, allowing us to cross-compare data in order to get a more global view of the situation in terms of practice, potential and limits. The results obtained in this context then open new horizons to think adapted French as a foreign language didactics to literary teaching/learning in an academic context

Reforms concerned not just recruitment, management and civil service organization, but also the training of officials in order to improve their skills. The introduction of the Master of Public Administration (MPA) in 1999 enhanced the scientific character of administrative knowledge while pre‑existing selective mechanisms were retained. The MPA supports the country’s modernization by enabling the State‑Party to undertake continuous reform of public administration. It allows as well the emergence of a new ethos and a community of vision among the new generation of civil servants, whose competences are adjustable to several possible political scenarios

The present research deals with cultural psychology. It aims to show how culture can influence the cognitive skills of underachieving students. Before cultural psychology emerged, social constructivism best represented by Piaget and Vygotski, and later in the twentieth century by Jérôme Bruner or Bertrand Troadec underlined the importance of culture in children’s mental dispositions.Their research on influence of culture in children’s cognitive dispositions are used as guiding principle.Over the years, it has been noticed that quite a large number of Martinican secondary school students from ages 11 to 12 had writing problems. In reality, national assessments have always confirmed this fact. Obviously papers about children’s writing problems have been written by many specialists. But it is interesting to consider this issue in relation to cultural psychology. In addition, this perspective shows the subject in his own singularity in interaction with his social background. It appears that stories, presented as social background’s products, are considered as systems which make sense for students who are in cognitive distress. Skills in writting will thus become for us a kind of mirror to assess the quality of thinking

Thus, the situation of ESP education is highlighted in the Tunisian context through interviews and questionnaires conducted in the field. The surveys were conducted with the collaboration of local deans, teachers and students of universities with different specialities such as health (medicine and pharmacy), science and technology, law and commerce. These institutions are selected from different geographical areas of the country to be as representative as possible. This work helps to update and analyze, by the means of methods of qualitative and quantitative survey, a diverse set of data (related essentially to deans, language teachers and students). The present dissertation allows us also to analyze the pedagogical and political stakes related to English language training and emphasize the importance of ESP teachers’training. Finally, the analysis of the situation of ESP education in Tunisia allows us to identify the obstacles that need to be overcome. In this respect, recommendations are made

This thesis explores the idea of integrating a cross-cultural approach into the teaching-learning process of legal French. Focused on the foreign student public who are studying Law in France, this work constitutes a contribution to French for Academic Purposes. The didactic questions raised here are backed up by a thorough “putting into perspective” of sociolinguistic, historic and epistemic factors : clarifying the manner in which “Linguistics” and “Law” are articulated to each other allows to better understand the relative difficulty of setting up a cross-cultural teaching program of legal French. In order to (re)introduce this cross-cultural dimension, it would seem appropriate to start with certain formerly-established hermeneutic propositions in Law and Language Sciences. The cross-cultural hermeneutics developed in this work aims at improving the preparation and accompaniment of foreign students’ integration, by proposing a truly relationist perspective

This dissertation highlights the didactics of languages-cultures. It is based on a constitutive problem of our socio-historical moment: living together with an Other a lot closer to Oneself, and recognizing this Other as an Equal. This research work is not but an approach in a specific time and place: it is located in Brazil; it has as a backcloth a society very diversified in all senses, and it has as a scope the process of teaching-learning French as a Foreign Language related to college students in a public university in Minas Gerais state. Among the various vectors that the learner deploys in order to build representations of foreign countries and other cultures, we have chosen to verify the role of the textbooks used in the classroom as basic material to acquire knowledge of the foreign language and recognition of the francophone culture. The research questions we have posed in this regard were the following: - Do the textbooks of French as a Foreign Language go in the direction of building multicultural competence? - Does the French reality exposed in the contents of these textbooks depict France as a country open to other cultures? - Since the space represented is, most of the time, just the Hexagon, what about the francophone countries, where the language is used for historical, cultural or economic reasons? We propose an analysis of the role the actors play in the process of teaching-learning a foreign language. We thus present the textbooks highlighted for this work, notably regarding the cultural contents they encompass, divided into two categories: the diversity of spaces and places, and the social diversity. To render this study feasible, we have conducted surveys using questionnaires, so that we could reveal the content of the representations of the learners using the chosen textbooks

The development of a didactic plan for the teaching of French as a Foreign Language (FLE), and especially in French literature at universities in Taiwan, has taken the characteristics of local learners into consideration. It shows that they have experienced an identity confusion related to the socio-historical context, and thus have expressed an interest in socio-cultural knowledge in order to enrich themselves personally and socially. Under the circumstances, the didactic challenge of the characters’ reading and writing is located on examining the socio-cultural significance of the literary texts for the learners’ reflection on identity issues, narrative strategies associated with constructing the fictional world, and characters’ authenticity encouraging the readers’ identification.A survey on the relationship between the local students and French literature particularly on their characters’ conception, has been carried out for this project in the form of a questionnaire. The collation of the data collected providing the development of didactic sequences is underpinned by a literary corpus correlated to femininity of the 1920s. Their implementation in a FLE class in 2015 consists of studying the contributions of the cultural referents in the creation of the characters’ system as well as in the articulation of the sequential actions of narrative. This narrative function of the reference acts is coupled to its pragmatic function on programming narrative tensions corresponding to various modes of the characters’ identification. Finally, the study of reference acts in the making of a fictional world renders it possible to identify the internal logic of the represented society, and the explanations of social phenomena from the situation defined in time and space

Observed that skills to master by users are still obscured in conventional formations proposed in academic libraries that are necessary to produce a better reception of documentary and informational knowledge to interact a consumerist confinement of information. Based on a methodology with exploratory talks to a questionnaire with information, communication and documentation professionals, our study shows that this is in digital convergence that a change may occur among students. This convergence is part of formations that are moving towards digital cultures combining both education media declining the critical spirit, centered learning and technical culture which must take into account both the knowledge of the tools, but also the training tools. It is this vision of the ecology of the training that foreshadowed in our analysis and looming for academic libraries as a strong axis of anchoring in higher education around a dynamic oriented towards a digital documentary convergence. These recommendations are considered in the context of collective action within the University with real mediation between the different actors of education and training, and a central place for the University Library as the place of training for digital transversalities

The objective of this research is to evaluate the integration of ICT in Palestinian universities for foreign language teaching: the case of RUFO and QIF projects. By adopting a constructivist theoretical approach, this study is conducted on three levels: micro (teachers and students), meso (on line courses) and macro (policy of the university and the Ministry of Education). The research is based on a qualitative and comprehensive methodology. A content analysis was applied to the triple collected data (interviews, excerpts from on line courses, official excerpts) The findings show that current teaching practices have not evolved as a result of the integration of ICT; the use of this new modality has amplified the existing traditional and directive practices; sometimes it has moved them backward. The main conclusion is that it is not possible to innovate without changing the educational paradigm and shifting from a teaching-centered model to a learning- centered one. Development of higher education requires the implementation of: a complex and cooperative educative engineering, a bidirectional and transversal management process of the innovation, and a training-coaching at all levels
Brantley, Mary Katherine. "Re-framing the Specificity Debate in the Lansod Sector around Pragmatics : an Action Research Project Exploring the Development of Flexible Pragmatic Skills instead of “General English” for Second-year Students in Culture and Media." Thesis, Lille 3, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020LIL3H020.
This action research-based doctoral thesis concerns course content and language-learning objectives in the sector of L2 teaching in France for students in higher education who are not specializing in that language, a sector known as Languages for Specialists of Other Disciplines (LANSOD). Discussions about LANSOD course content often refer to the appropriate degree of specificity for these classes in line with a Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP) perspective. However, in this work, we will question the utility of a specificity continuum ranging from “general” to specific” language teaching, particularly due to the ambiguity of the concept of “general language.” Instead, we will suggest that the development of flexible pragmatic skills is a more pertinent objective than “general language skills” for groups of students with undetermined or varied language needs. In order to explore this argument, we selected a classroom of second-year undergraduate students in the field of Culture and Media at the University of Lille because of the students’ varied needs and implemented a series of pedagogical initiatives based on genre-based text analysis and description to develop the students’ flexible pragmatic competence in English. Results show that our approach elicited a variety of interesting pragmatic insights from students even though the notions of genre and context proved more difficult to deal with than we had foreseen. Since the field of pragmatics is producing increasingly sophisticated approaches to the study of communication and context, we conclude that this field offers promising insights for LANSOD course content specification, particularly with regards to the lens that it offers on specificity

This thesis proposes to study the use of authentic documents in the teaching/learning of F.L.E. (French as a foreign language) to Chinese students in an intercultural perspective. We first tried to understand the emergence and imposition of an intercultural approach in the didactic of F.L.E. today. We also studied the roles of authentic documents in the teaching of foreign languages in order to develop intercultural communication competence. We then tried to justify our study from an empirical research based firstly on a presentation-analysis of the current situation of the teaching of F.L.E. in China (the university) and secondly on a survey of learners and teachers. Finally, we discussed the impact of authentic materials as teaching tool for an intercultural approach to teaching/learning of French through a teaching experience conducted in a Chinese university for one academic semester

What is the role and meaning of the French Foreign Language in Afghanistan today? During the two wars the country has known since the late 1970s, the population forced into exile by a whole wave in nearby countries. We chose to interview young Afghan refugees, men and women, in Peshawar (Pakistan) in 1992, to determine (among the strategies in place to confront the situation) the importance of education and learning, especially the FLE, during but also after the exile. The changes and challenges related to the context do not prevent - the very opposite - a strong motivation of young people (helped by their family and the entire Afghan community) to learn French. But does this confrontation with a foreign language-culture favour learning of otherness, in contrast to a world where difference is still too summarily equivalent to conflict? The desire to open up to the world (through foreign language) of the younger generation is not without some friction at times with the culture of belonging, but they appear to be assumed. We see, after an analysis as precise as possible of collected interviews, that the mixed classes given way, at the same time, a first open, critical, nuanced, that the more rigid standards of the host country are somehow comfort: signs that the opening in the early twentieth century of Afghanistan to modern education and the diplomatic framework and institutional set up patiently before the Soviet invasion and the reign of the taliban continue, despite the ups and downs of recent history, to bear fruit

This thesis is in the field of teaching foreign language and culture. It represents a research on teaching ‘‘everyday Persian’’ based on short story as a place of intercultural exchanges. Applying the diglossia hypothesis to Persian, this dissertation demonstrates that this concept cannot overlook different sociocultural parameters which determine the use of two linguistic varieties: ‘‘everyday Persian’’ and ‘‘formal Persian’’. The diglossia, the mutual relation between language and culture and the study of Persian textbooks corpus have convinced us that teaching ‘‘spoken everyday Persian’’ and the presentation of cultural diversity in Iran need to be revised. This research examines the impact of using short stories on teaching ‘‘spoken everyday Persian’’ and also its efficacy to stimulate intercultural verbal interactions. The thesis raises if a concrete element or a well chosen theme in a short story can lead learners to speak. This role requires the seizable cultural elements in this very text. This educational choice is associated with an iconographical study of some selected illustrations intended to attract learners’ attention to the content of the short story and the cultural aspects it conveys. Another purpose of this research is to figure out whether the teacher’s posture, communication behaviours and the teacher/learner interpersonal relationships are interdependent and if they have any impact on the learner’s desire to learn and communicate in the context of teaching Persian. To verify these hypotheses, an educational project for the second year-students of Persian language and civilization at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations was implemented. Analysis of recorded data can show how our concepts and proposals were applied. It is indicative of the emergence of a conversational and intercultural dynamics in the classroom and confirms our hypotheses regarding the use of Persian short stories in teaching Persian as a foreign language

This work intends to contribute to an improvement in the quality of pedagogical supervision through the use of digital resources in teaching and learning of Arabic at university. The objective isto high light the added value that these resources bring in the framework of the teaching of Arabic grammar. One of the proposed strategies to achieve the objective of our research is based on an interactive method. The goal of this approach is, on the one hand, to encourage interaction (teacher / student and student / student) and on the other hand, to improve the quality of the pedagogical environment. The research is based on three axes :The first relates to two investigations conducted in both universities Lyon II and Lyon III in 2013/2014, which raised concerns regarding the teaching of Arabicgrammar at the university. The results of these investigations high lightedalack of educational tools likely to motivate students to work, and the lack of opportunity to improve student / teacher interaction. The second concerns the design of digital resources for the teaching and learning of Arabic grammar (foreign language) :˗ A didactic web site consisting of 70 activities grammatical computerized, 360 exercises, 360 texts, 293 photos and 70 videos.˗ A Facebook page of « The Easy Arabic Grammar » which contains 29 grammatical activities, 74 publications, 7 videos and 22 photos. The third axis covered an analysis of the data collected after the use of these resources during the second semester of TD at Lyon III University in 2017. The analysis of the data shows how the use of digital resources, has increased the quality of students performances and how the online interaction (teacher / student) and (student / student) motivates the students and gives very positive results. At the end of our research, we hope that universities in France will take into account the need to integrate digital resources into the teaching of Arabic at the university, and especially in the teaching of Arabic grammar, which would to increase the quality of education and, consequently, the level of students

In line with discussions highlighting the cultural dimension of translators' language training, this study is based on an observation: the constant failure of many applicants to pass the entrance exams to Europe's leading translation schools and offers to seek solutions to the problem. Several professional trainers identified the lack of awareness of cultural mediation during the language training for the candidates, as the key reason for the issue, however they did not indicate how to introduce the cultural mediation in the teaching of foreign languages and translation. It was therefore necessary to conduct a series of empirical studies in order to provide answers to the question. This study defends the idea that the development of the performance of cultural mediation, now required of future translators, is inconceivable without taking into account a specific treatment of the foreign ethno-socio-cultural imaginary. It presents a typology of the various ways in which this imaginary spontaneously and silently invites itself into different kinds of speeches and analyses the way in which this imaginary is addressed from a cultural mediation perspective in translation studies and didactics. A survey of 418 academics (teachers and students alike) identified elements that hindered successful training of translators as cultural mediators, and as a result, a number of suggestions were made to support this officially announced goal in Saudi universities, bearing in mind that these suggestions assign different conclusions to the ethno-socio-cultural approach, depending on whether the intended approach is aimed at a pedagogical or a professional training of translators

During the interwar years, foreign music students trained in Paris are expected from teachers and public authorities to become « the most useful propagators of French culture », according to director of Conservatoire, Henri Rabaud’s words : through moving abroad, those traveler musicians shall spread musical techniques and French aesthetical bias all over the world. We are confronting this cultural transfer to its fulfilment. First, the correspondence between institutions and public authorities emphasizes issues caused by these students coming to France. Then, the partly unpublished archives of music schools form a prosopographic data base identifying foreign young musicians. Musical press and life stories finally attest that these young artists are integrated in parisian as well as international musical life, and allow also to estimate the effect of measures in favour of foreign students
