In the context of tensor network states, we for the first time reformulate the corner transfer matrix renormalization group (CTMRG) method into a variational bilevel optimization algorithm. The solution of the optimization problem corresponds to the fixed-point environment pursued in the conventional CTMRG method, from which the partition function of a classical statistical model, represented by an infinite tensor network, can be efficiently evaluated. The validity of this variational idea is demonstrated by the high-precision calculation of the residual entropy of the dimer model, and is further verified by investigating several typical phase transitions in classical spin models, where the obtained critical points and critical exponents all agree with the best known results in literature. Its extension to three-dimensional tensor networks or quantum lattice models is straightforward, as also discussed briefly.

Purpose: Chemotherapy mixing errors (CTMRs), although rare, have serious consequences. Illinois CancerCare is a large practice with multiple satellite offices. The goal of this study was to reduce the number of CTMRs using Six Sigma methods. Patients and Methods: A Six Sigma team consisting of five participants (registered nurses and pharmacy technicians [PTs]) was formed. The team had 10 hours of Six Sigma training in the DMAIC (ie, Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) process. Measurement of errors started from the time the CT order was verified by the PT to the time of CT administration by the nurse. Data collection included retrospective error tracking software, system audits, and staff surveys. Results: Root causes of CTMRs included inadequate knowledge of CT mixing protocol, inconsistencies in checking methods, and frequent changes in staffing of clinics. Initial CTMRs (n = 33,259) constituted 0.050%, with 77% of these errors affecting patients. The action plan included checklists, education, and competency testing. The postimplementation error rate (n = 33,376, annualized) over a 3-month period was reduced to 0.019%, with only 15% of errors affecting patients. Initial Sigma was calculated at 4.2; this process resulted in the improvement of Sigma to 5.2, representing a 100-fold reduction. Financial analysis demonstrated a reduction in annualized loss of revenue (administration charges and drug wastage) from $11,537.95 (Medicare Average Sales Price) before the start of the project to $1,262.40. Conclusion: The Six Sigma process is a powerful technique in the reduction of CTMRs.

Objective. In a cohort of 70 patients with childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE): to determine the baseline adherence to medications and visits; to investigate the effects of cellular text messaging reminders (CTMR) on adherence to clinic visits; and to study the influence of CTMR on adherence to use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ).Methods.CTMR were sent to 70 patients prior to clinic visits for 14 months. A subgroup of patients were evaluated for medication adherence to HCQ: 19 patients receiving CTMR prior to each scheduled HCQ dose were compared to 22 patients randomized to standard of care education about HCQ. Visit adherence was measured using administrative databases. Pharmacy refill information, self-report of adherence, and HCQ blood levels were utilized to monitor medication adherence to HCQ. Sufficient adherence to visits or HCQ was defined as estimates > 80%. Disease activity was primarily monitored with the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index.Results.At baseline, 32% of patients were sufficiently adherent to HCQ, and 81% to clinic visits. Visit adherence improved significantly by > 80% among those who were nonadherent to clinic visits at the baseline CTMR (p = 0.01). CTMR did not influence adherence to HCQ over time.Conclusion.Patients with cSLE were only modestly adherent to HCQ and clinic visits. CTMR may be effective for improving visit adherence among adolescents and young adults with cSLE, but it does not improve adherence to HCQ.

The Chinese Tianshan mountainous region (CTMR) is a typical alpine region with high topographic heterogeneity, characterized by a large altitude span, complex topography, and diverse landscapes. A significant increase in air temperature had occurred in the CTMR during the last five decades. However, the detailed, comprehensive, and systematical characteristics of climate warming, such as its temporal and spatial heterogeneity, remain unclear. In this study, the temporal and spatial heterogeneity of climate warming across the CTMR had been comprehensively analyzed based on the 10-day air temperature data gathered during 1961–2020 from 26 meteorological stations. The results revealed local cooling in the context of general warming in the CTMR. The amplitude of variation (AV) varied from −0.57 to 3.64 °C, with the average value of 1.19 °C during the last six decades. The lapse rates of the elevation-dependent warming that existed annually, and in spring, summer, and autumn are −0.5 °C/100 m, −0.5 °C/100 m, −0.7 °C/100 m, and −0.4 °C/100 m, respectively. The warming in the CTMR is characteristic of high temporal heterogeneity, as represented by the amplified warming at 10-d scale for more than half a year, and the values of AV were higher than 1.09 °C of the global warming during 2011–2020 (GWV2011–2020). Meanwhile, the amplitudes of warming differed greatly on a seasonal scale, with the rates in spring, autumn, and winter higher than that in summer. The large spatial heterogeneity of climate warming also occurred across the CTMR. The warming pole existed in the warm part, the Turpan-Hami basin (below 1000 m asl) where the air temperature itself was high. That is, the warm places were warmer across the CTMR. The cooling pole was also found in the Kuqa region (about 1000 m asl). This study could greatly improve the understanding of the spatio-temporal dynamics, patterns, and regional heterogeneity of climate warming across the CTMR and even northwest China.

This study focuses on how relationships among constructs representing (1) consumer trust in market-related institutions (CTMRI), (2) distrust for individuals (DFI), and (3) subjective quality of life (QOL) differ across groups separated by the poverty line in a developing country (Turkey). A comparison of models across the two groups using multisample confirmatory factor analysis indicates that there is a correlation only between CTMRI and QOL for consumers below the poverty line (r = .43); there are no correlations between any of the three constructs for consumers above the poverty line. Accordingly, there is a unique relationship between QOL and CTMRI among financially constrained consumers in a developing country. Below the poverty line, consumers with lower trust in market-related institutions tend to report lower QOL, while those with higher trust in market-related institutions tend to report higher QOL.

In order to study the physiology of perception of saline stress in ‘Common Sunki’ mandarin hybrids, an experiment was realized in a greenhouse at the CCTA - UFCG, Pombal, PB, Brazil, using using a randomized block design with a 2x4 factorial , with two levels of salinity (0.3 and 4.0 dS m-1) and four ‘Common Sunki’ mandarin hybrids (1 - TSKC x CTARG–019; 2 - TSKC x CTSW–028; 3 - TSKC x CTSW–033 and 4 - TSKC x CTSW-041), with three replications and four plants per plot. The plants were grown hydroponically and 90 days after sowing, a saline water solution was applied on rootstocks and evaluations of gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence were carried out 24 and 48 hours after saline stress. Changes on physiologic conditions were observed in the hybrids TSKC x CTSW - 028, TSKC x CTSW - 033 and TSKC x CTSW - 041 during the first 24 hours of saline stress. Fot the hybrid TSKC x CTARG – 019, changes were observed after 48 hours od salinity stress. According to salinity tolerance, the hybrids could be classified as follows: TSKC x CTARG - 019 > TSKC x CTSW - 028 = TSKC x CTSW – 041 > TSKC x CTSW - 033.

Background: Connective tissue manipulation (CTM) has therapeutic effects on diseases with autonomic imbalance, yet its mechanisms of action are not clearly identified. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate acute autonomic responses to CTM in healthy young women with various physical activity levels. Method: The study was designed as a nonrandomized, controlled single-center study. Healthy women aged between 18 and 25 years were assigned to a connective tissue manipulation group (CTMG) (n = 150) or a control group (CG) (n = 60). CTM was applied to the CTMG while the CG did not receive any intervention. Respiratory rate (RR), heart rate, systolic/diastolic blood pressures (SP/DP), oxygen saturation (OS) and body temperature were measured. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire short form was used to determine physical activity levels. Results: Analysis revealed significant reduction in SP and DP and an increment in RR in the CTMG (p < 0.05). RR increased and SP decreased among inactive, SP decreased among moderately active, and SP and OS decreased among highly active participants in the CTMG (p < 0.05). There were no significant alterations in the CG (p > 0.05). Conclusions: CTM has an immediate reducing effect on sympathetic activity in healthy young women independently from the physical activity level. Future studies are needed to clarify long-term effects of CTM on autonomic functions in healthy individuals.

Arid and semiarid regions are vulnerable to water deficits and salinity. Citrus plants are sensitive to saline stress and require the use of tolerant scion-rootstock combinations. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate and classify citrus scion-rootstock combinations with respect to their tolerance to salinity during seedling formation in a protected environment. An experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with a 5 x 12 x 2 factorial scheme corresponding to five levels of water salinity (0.8, 1.6, 2.4, 3.2, and 4.0 dS m-1) applied in 12 citrus rootstocks grafted with two scion varieties: ‘Tahiti’ acid lime and ‘Star Ruby’ grapefruit. The scion-rootstock combinations were evaluated for accumulated dry matter and survival index at 330 days after sowing the rootstocks. Salinity exerted different effects on the dry matter formation of scion-rootstock combinations. ‘Star Ruby’ was less sensitive to salinity, particularly when the rootstocks were the hybrids from ‘Sunki of Florida’ mandarin (TSKFL) with ‘Troyer’ citrange (CTTR) – 013 (TSKFL x CTTR – 013), common ‘Sunki’ mandarin (TSKC) with ‘Argentina’ citrange (CTARG) – 019 (TSKC x CTARG – 019), TSKC with ‘Swingle’ citrumelo (CTSW) – 031 (TSKC x CTSW – 031), and the trifoliate hybrid (HTR) - 069, as well as the varieties Volkamer lemon and Santa Cruz Rangpur lime. When grafted with ‘Tahiti’ acid lime, the rootstocks displaying the less sensitive to salinity were TSKFL x CTTR - 013 and TSKC x CTARG - 019.

It is expected that nano-scale devices and interconnections will introduce unprecedented level of defects in the substrates, and architectural designs need to accommodate the uncertainty inherent at such scales. This consideration motivates the search for new architectural paradigms based on redundancy based defect-tolerant designs. However, redundancy is not always a solution to the reliability problem, and often too much or too little redundancy may cause degradation in reliability. The key challenge is in determining the granularity at which defect tolerance is designed, and the level of redundancy to achieve a specific level of reliability. Analytical probabilistic models to evaluate such reliability-redundancy trade-offs are error prone and cumbersome, and do not scalewell for complex networks of gates. In this thesiswe develop different tools and techniques that can evaluate the reliability measures of combinational circuits, and can be used to analyze reliability-redundancy trade-offs for different defect-tolerant architectural configurations. In particular, we have developed two tools, one of which is based on probabilistic model checking and is named NANOPRISM, and another MATLAB based tool called NANOLAB. We also illustrate the effectiveness of our reliability analysis tools by pointing out certain anomalies which are counter-intuitive but can be easily discovered by these tools, thereby providing better insight into defecttolerant design decisions. We believe that these tools will help furthering research and pedagogical interests in this area, expedite the reliability analysis process and enhance the accuracy of establishing reliability-redundancy trade-off points.

In this thesis, we study the critical behaviour of the two-dimensional Ising model on the regular lattices. Using the numerical solution of the model on the square, triangular and honeycomb lattices we compute the universal scaling function, which turns out to be identical on each of the lattices, in addition to being identical to the scaling function of the Ising Field Theory, computed previously by Fonseca and Zamolodchikov. To cope with the lattice contributions we carefully examined series expansions of the lattice free energy derivatives. We included the non-scaling regular part of the free energy as well as non-linear Aharony-Fisher scaling elds, which all have non-universal expansions. Using as many of the previously known exact results as possible, we were able to t the unknown coe cients of the scaling function expansion and obtain some non-universal coe cients. In contrast to the IFT approach of Fonseca and Zamolodchikov, all coe cients were obtained independently from separate datasets, without using dispersion relations. These results show that the Scaling and Universality hypotheses, with the help of the Aharony-Fisher corrections, hold on the lattice to very high precision and so there should be no doubt of their validity. For all numerical computations we used the Corner Transfer Matrix Renormalisation Group (CTMRG) algorithm, introduced by Nishino and Okunishi. The algorithm combines Baxter's variational approach (which gives Corner Transfer Matrix (CTM) equations), and White's Density Matrix Renormalisation Group (DMRG) method to solve the CTM equations e ciently. It was shown that given su cient distance from the critical point, the algorithmic precision is exceptionally good and is unlikely to be exceeded with any other general algorithm using the same amount of numerical computations. While performing tests we also con rmed several critical parameters of the three-state Ising and Blume-Capel models, although no extra precision was gained, compared to previous results from other methods. In addition to the results presented here, we produced an efficient and reusable implementation of the CTMRG algorithm, which after minor modifications could be used for a variety of lattice models, such as the Kashiwara-Miwa and the chiral Potts models.

Trade marks that are not inherently distinctive or that are descriptive or generic may nevertheless be registered if they have, as a result of the use that has been made of them, acquired distinctiveness, or what is called in US American trade mark law, ‘secondary meaning’. The legal basis for this basis for registration is found in Article 3(3) of the Directive and in Article 7(3) CTMR.

"interests are adversely affected by the claim of the CTM to the UK mark’s seniority must be able to contest the UK registration. Where the UK mark is still registered, this is not difficult. But where the UK mark has been relinquished voluntarily, the registry will have to establish whether it could have been revoked or invalidated if it were still on the register. This is the situation to which the regulations to be made under s 52(2)(b) is directed. Third, there have to be provisions concerning the conversion of a CTM or an application for one into a national application. This is because the CTMR provides for the applicant for, or owner of, a CTM to request that the application or registration be converted if it is refused or withdrawn, or ceases to have effect (wholly or partially). This situation is likely to arise where a CTM application conflicts with an earlier trademark registered in one or more Member States. The CTMR provides then that the applicant can request that the application be converted into national applications in Member States where there is no conflict. The request has to be filed with the CTMO, which passes it on to the national intellectual property offices of the Member States concerned. A national application arising in this way is treated no differently from an application filed in the normal way at the national registry at the date of filing of the original CTM application. Fourth, the regulation requires that the Member States designate courts to be Community trademark courts. Proceedings for infringement will be able to be brought in one such court: its decision will have Community-wide effect. The regulation sets out the rules for determining which Member State’s courts have jurisdiction: this depends on the domicile or place of business of the defendant or plaintiff, or on where the infringement has taken place. If the latter route is chosen, however, the judgment will have effect only in that Member State. The government proposes to designate those courts which presently have jurisdiction to hear trademark infringement cases: the High Court in England and Wales and in Northern Ireland and the Court of Session in Scotland. Fifth, certain provisions of the Act will be applied to Community trademarks too, and these require statutory instruments. They are: -Groundless threats; -Seizure by Customs and Excise of infringing matter; -Fraudulent use of a trademark. All instruments which may be made under these powers will be subject to the negative resolution procedure." In Sourcebook on Intellectual Property Law, 666. "The Community Trademark Regulation will establish a system whereby a Community trademark can be obtained by registration at the Community Trademarks Office, which the regulation establishes. The mark is a unitary right, which has effect throughout the EC, and the proprietor will be able to proceed against infringements taking place in several Member States through a single action in a designated court in a single Member State. The Commission’s original proposal for a regulation was published in 1980. The European Council decided on 29 October 1993 that the office should be located in Spain (and that the proposed Community Designs Office should be there too) and that the languages of the office should be English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. The regulation, which had been stalled over these matters for many years, was then adopted. The Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market, which will run the Community trademark system, started operations on 1 April 1996. It had been accepting applications since the start of the year, but they will not be examined before April and will be accorded a filing date of 1 April. The Act makes provision for the necessary regulations to be made in the UK. However, the provisions which deal with this matter will have no effect until the Community trademark is up and running. Section 52 is the provision which enables the government to make regulations required for the introduction of the Community Trademark Regulation. It empowers the Secretary of State to make the necessary provisions by regulation. The Community Trademark Regulation will, like other EC regulations, be directly effective in the UK (and in all other Member States). However, there are consequential matters which do require domestic legislation. First, applications for Community trademarks may be made through the national intellectual property offices of the Member States. In the UK, this means that an application for a CTM may be made to the Patent Office, in the same way as an application under the 1994 Act. Applications filed in this way will not be examined by the Patent Office, but simply passed within the two weeks prescribed in the CTMR to the CTMO in Alicante: a receipt will be issued and a handling charge made. Second, there have to be provisions to enable the UK registry to determine a posteriori the validity or liability to revocation of a registration of a trademark from which a Community trademark claims seniority. This is not only a consequence of the regulation but a requirement of the directive (Article 14). The problem is that a CTM may claim priority from an earlier UK trademark: the CTM then stands in the shoes of the UK registration if a dispute arises between it and another trademark. This will continue to be the case even if the UK mark is surrendered or lapses, but not if it is revoked or invalidated. This means that anyone whose."
