Original descriptions and illustrations of the first instar larva of Megalostomis (Heterostomis) lacordairei Lacordaire and of Coscinoptera argentina Burmeister (Clytrini: Megalostomina) are provided. Based on the available information on first instar larvae, the tribe Clytrini is diagnosed. Unique of the larvae of clytrini is the antennal sensorium dome-like. Characters in common between Clytrini, Cryptocephalini, and Chlamisini (Cryptocephalinae) are highlighted, like the body J-shaped (in association with case-bearer habits); frons, clypeus, and labrum fused; spiracles with reticulate peritreme; egg-bursters present on mesoand metathorax, each situated anterior to a very long seta and a short seta ventral to these.

The comparative morphology of the prothorax and procoxae of New World Cryptocephalini was studied based on representatives of 11 of the 13 genera of the tribe. This study revealed a set of characters of obvious diagnostic and possible phylogenetic value supporting the currently accepted generic classification and two subtribes instead of the three currently recognized. Two general typesof prothoracies were found, the first occurring in Cryptocephalina and Monachulina and the second in Pachybrachina. Previously undescribed for Polyphaga, a monocondylic joint between the coxa and trochantin, was found in all the genera studied. Possible movement of the trochanter, including the transfer of advance movement into rotation, is described and illustrated.

This study revised the subgenus Burlinius Lopatin, 1965, of the genus Cryptocephalus Geoffroy, 1762 (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Cryptocephalinae, Cryptocephalini), and describes four new species, namely, Cryptocephalus (Burlinius) longchiensis sp. nov., C. (Burlinius) baowenzhengi sp. nov., C. (Burlinius) tomurensis sp. nov., and C. (Burlinius) glabrelegantulus sp. nov. The species C. (Burlinius) turpis Chen, 1942, and C. (Burlinius) yangweii Chen, 1942, were revalidated and treated as distinct species. Another four species were transferred into this subgenus from the subgenus Cryptocephalus, namely, C. (Burlinius) flavolimbatus Pic, 1920 (stat. nov.), C. (Burlinius) pusus Schöller, 2009 (stat. nov.), C. (Burlinius) scutemaculatus Tan, 1992 (stat. nov.), and C. (Burlinius) shaowuanus Gressitt & Kimoto, 1961 (stat. nov.). Two species (including one more subspecies) were removed out of this subgenus, namely, C. (Burlinius) nigrolimbatus Jacoby, 1890, C. (Burlinius) pallidipes Pic, 1927, and C. (Burlinius) pallidipes nakatae Gressitt & Kimoto, 1961; they were transferred into the subgenus Cryptocephalus. Thus, the subgenus Burlinius Lopatin includes now a total of 26 species in China according to our revision. A key to all the Chinese species of this subgenus is provided as well as color illustrations and line drawings for the general habitus and genital structures.

Three new species of Chrysomelidae with extraordinary extensions of the male mandibles are described: Scaphodius drehu sp. nov. and S. ferox sp. nov. (Cryptocephalinae), from New Caledonia, and Chaloenus gajah sp. nov. (Galerucinae), from Borneo. Designation of the type species of Chaloenus Westwood, 1861, is clarified. Synonymy of Scaphodius Chapuis, 1874, with Nyetra Baly, 1877, is supported. Four species of Ditropidus Erichson, 1842, described from New Caledonia, but hitherto regarded as nomina nuda, are shown to be available and are placed in Scaphodius: S. aeneus (Fauvel, 1907), comb. nov., S. nitidus (Fauvel, 1907) comb. nov., S. striolatus (Fauvel, 1907) comb. nov., S. sulcatus (Fauvel, 1907) comb. nov. Ditropidus opacicollis Fauvel, 1907, is also transferred to Scaphodius, as S. opacicollis (Fauvel) comb. nov. The genus Ditropidus does not occur onNew Caledonia. Male mandible enlargment in the Chrysomelidae is reviewed: it is common in Cryptocephalinae, but otherwise restricted to a few species of Chrysomelinae, Eumolpinae and Galerucinae. Possible reasons for its distribution in the Chrysomelidae are discussed.

AbstractSemelvillea gen.n. is described from eastern Australia, with nine species, all of which are new: acaciae, bunyae, eungellae, hirsuta, nothofagi, parva, punctata, tasmaniae and waraganji. The genus is related to Arnomus Sharp in Cryptocephalinae and a partial phylogeny of the species of Semelvillea is proposed using Arnomus as an outgroup. The host-plants include Acacia, Eucalyptus and Nothofagus, and the implications of the species phylogeny for host-plant relationships and biogeography are briefly considered.

This is a study on the leaf beetle subgenus Cryptocephalus Geoffroy, 1762 from China, with the particular emphasis upon the species-group classification of the subgenus and the taxonomy of the Cryptocephalus heraldicus species group. A new key is compiled to all the species groups found in China. Four new species are described from China: Cryptocephalus (Cryptocephalus) biordopunctatus sp. nov. from Yunnan, C. hani sp. nov. from Shanxi, Hubei, Shaanxi and Gansu, C. incisodentatus sp. nov. from Sichuan and Yunnan, and C. nigroflavusiventerus sp. nov. from Yunnan. Three species are found for the first time in China: C. lacosus Pic, 1922, C. nigriceps Allard, 1891 and C. rajah Jacoby, 1908. The species C. nigrolimbatus Jacoby, 1890 is transferred from the subgenus Burlinius Lopatin to this subgenus and assigned to the Cryptocephalus heraldicus group. The species number of this group is now 30 in total according to our result of taxonomic review. A key to all the mainland China species of this species group is provided as well as high quality color images and line drawings of adult habitus, aedeagus, and other important structures. All the types of the new species are deposited in the collection of Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IZ-CAS).

AbstractThis communication is a general review of Eumolpinae, a subfamily of Chrysomelidae. The subfamily includes more than 7000 species. It is specially numerous and much diversified in the tropics, with both the attributes declining northward. It has several distinctive features, and is clearly related to Clytrinae, Cryptocephalinae, Chlamisinae, Lamprosomatinae, Hispinae, and Cassidinae. Megascelidines, though generally treated as a subfamily, they should be taken as a part of Eumolpinae. Through some larval features, Eumolpinae seem related also to Galerucinae-Chrysomelinae. Separation from Eumolpinae of the primitive eumolpines, the Tribe Spilopyrini, and inclusion of Syneta among Eumolpinae have been contradicted.

Metallactus canescens sp. nov., Metallactus aemulus sp. nov., Metallactus diaguita sp. nov., Metallactus nugator sp. nov. are described from Northern and Central Argentina. The new species are very similar to one another regarding their external look but can be distinguished above all on the basis of internal characters, in particular the morphology of the aedeagal median lobe. Besides, some traits of their external features, i. e. the thick dorsal setosity and the weak metallic hue, look quite uncommon within the genus Metallactus Suffrian, 1866 and remind of some species of genus Coscinoptera Lacordaire, 1848 (in particular C. tibialis Harold, 1875) and other undescribed species belonging to the genus Griburius Haldeman, 1849. This might be due to some kind of adaptive convergent evolution.

Анотація:
In this study, the mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of two walnut leaf insect pests, Gastrolina depressa depressa and G. depressa thoracica, were sequenced by Sanger sequencing technology. The mitogenome of G. depressa thoracica was complete at 16,109 bp in length, while the mitogenome of G. depressa depressa (14,277 bp) was partial. The genomic analyses indicated that both mitogenomes have the typical gene content and arrangement. The formerly identified elements, ‘TAGTA’ between trnSer(UCN) and nad2, and ‘ATGATAA’ between atp8 and atp6, were more conserved than that between nad4L and nad4, which was ‘ATGTTAA’ in Coleoptera excluding Polyphaga. Phylogenetic analyses of the 13 protein-coding genes from 36 coleopteran species well supported a close affinity between the subfamily Chrysomelinae including G. depressa thoracica and G. depressa depressa and Galerucinae, as well as a sister relationship of ((Eumolpinae + Cryptocephalinae) + Cassidinae) within Chrysomelidae.
