Повний текст джерелаOn the global market the competition between firms is increasing. This require established firms to be flexible and innovative. There are different ways of achieving flexibility without critically changing a firm’s capabilities, out of which one is interfirm collaboration. A way to also avoid competition and gain new perspectives is to engage in cross-industry collaboration. With this in mind, the purpose of this thesis has been to explore how firms engage in cross-industry collaborations to boost their innovation capability.Considering that cross-industry collaborations is a relatively unexplored area within current research, an explorative approach is used in this thesis. The frame of reference that was conducted deals with innovation in general, interfirm collaboration and cross-industry collaboration specifics. In this thesis 17 respondents, with experience in cross-industry collaborations, belonging to 15 firms have been interviewed. The interviews were semi-structured and intended to capture examples of cross-industry collaborations and the respondent firm’s general attitude towards collaboration. The results reflect that firms use cross-industry collaborations in different ways. Out of all the respondents some engage in them to access technologies, some do it to explore potential values, and some do it to gain access to new markets. These results, and more, are then discussed in comparison with current literature, which makes the basis for the conclusions later drawn. The conclusions show that firms in Sweden can and should develop cross-industry collaboration strategies, to be able to maximise the effects on the firms’ innovation capabilities.
Zhang, Xiaoyan. "Cross-industry digital innovation in asset maintenance : a phenomenon-based exploratory case study." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Ecully, Ecole centrale de Lyon, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023ECDL0051.
Повний текст джерелаA phenomenon-based exploratory case study Abstract This thesis captures, describes, documents, and conceptualize an unexplored yet significant phenomenon, cross-industry digital innovation, by cross-fertilizing the asset maintenance in aviation and rail freight industries. Rail is the most energy-efficient and low-emitting freight transport mode. However, the status quo of rail freight wagon maintenance in Europe presents a state of inefficiency and lack of intelligence. With the rapid development of digital technologies, condition-based and predictive maintenance represent an excellent opportunity to yield a big efficiency leap in wagon maintenance, thus potentially making rail freight transport competitive and sustainable. This thesis argues that how to leverage digital technologies to benefit rail freight wagon maintenance is not only a technical problem of how to make good use of digital technology to improve maintenance efficiency, but also a strategic problem of how to innovate business model to generate value growth for rail freight industry. When solving such complex practical problems, sometimes the best ideas come from outside your industry. As initiated by the Aero-Ferro Benchmark project, learning the best practice from aviation will contribute to rail freight success. Thus, this thesis aims to theoretically conceptualize how to carry out cross-industry digital innovation in asset maintenance, and to practically solve the problem of what rail freight can learn from the aviation industry. In this respect, this thesis reviews relevant theories in the field of innovation and strategy aiming to find theoretical support. However, based on the knowledge gaining from literature, it is found that cross-industry digital innovation is such an infant field that no well-established and well-fitting theory could directly help define, analyze and address this complex issue. This motivates us to conceptualize a new theoretical framework to explain this emerging phenomenon. To achieve this purpose, this thesis conducts an exploratory case study on digital innovation in asset maintenance in aviation and rail freight industries. We start from determining a preliminary asset maintenance system framework from two sub-system (technical system and business system) to guide the phenomenon-based theorizing. Then, an abductive reasoning and system combing approach is followed, together with literature review and case study as the main research methods. Findings from case study on the technical system argue that the maintenance strategy of rail freight wagons will undergo an imperative paradigm shift from preventive to predictive, especially in terms of utilizing digital technology and data management. Thus, a technical architecture of condition monitoring based predictive maintenance for rail freight wagons is proposed in this thesis. For the business system, this thesis analyzes the changing roles of main actors in this emerging digital maintenance landscape and the evolution of their business models in wagon maintenance ecosystem, forecasting the potential business model innovation of rolling stock(wagon) OEMs, cargo rail operators and wagon keepers. In doing so, this thesis offers insightful theoretical and practical contributions. First, this thesis contributes to advancing the theory building in cross-industry digital innovation. A phenomenon-based cross-industry digital innovation strategy framework is developed. Second, this thesis contributes to guiding the problem-solving strategy of digital innovation in wagon maintenance in rail freight industry

Повний текст джерелаThis study examined the relationship between innovation strategy, as represented by assignee patents, and the financial performance of firms traded on stock exchanges in the United States. Building upon previous industry-specific research, this study broadens these investigations to relationships across multiple industries with respect to innovation and value creation. As a basis for examining the aforementioned relationships, this study was based on a framework shaped by Schumpeter's (1934) economic value of innovation theory. This study seeks to answer three research questions: (a) To what degree does innovation and a company's financial performance correlate across different industries, (b) To what degree does innovation strategy for publicly traded mid-capitalized firms and a company's financial performance correlate across different industries, and (c) To what degree does innovation strategy for publicly traded large-capitalized firms and a company's financial performance correlate across different industries? In addressing these questions, the study analyzed secondary data from the United States Patent and Trade Office and company financial data from the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) online system. Regression analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship between company financial data and innovation as a function of patent awards. While no significant relationship was found to exist across a range of financial measures, significance was found for selected measures of mid-capitalized firms over a seven-year period. Recommendations for future research was provided in the conclusions to the study.

International tourism is one of the major vehicles of economic development in industrializing countries in the twenty-first century. Countries with tourism-based economies keep developing strategies and approaches for employing their comparative advantages to remain competitive. However, rapid globalization has increased the competitiveness in the tourist industry even more complex, including hotel industry. The industry players not only have to compete locally or nationally, but globally. Reduction of operations cost no longer the core competence that contributes to a firm’s performance. Other strategies such as organizational effectiveness, increase of market share, improvement of customer retention and service innovation has become key capabilities that provide better benefits to the firms. Therefore, this research employs a cross-national, survey-based methodology to find out the model that suitable to help a hotel to understand its’ internal and external factors that may contributes in delivering better performance. This study proposes a hotel’s technology-organization-environment (TOE) context is significant to service innovation management which leads to achieving sustainable competitive advantage. A total of 204 hotels from Taiwan and Malaysia is used to test the conceptual model and hypotheses. The findings lead to several key findings: (1) Technological context and organizational context are positively affects service innovation management. (2) The service innovation management in the hotel is related to its’ sustainable competitive advantage significantly. (3) Overall, the model is comparatively better in explaining the practices in Taiwan. However, the technological context is comparatively more significant for Malaysian hotel operators; and the organizational context is rather more important in Taiwan. The insights from this study can help the hotel managers from both Taiwan and Malaysia to have a better understanding of the current phenomenon in the industry and manage their service innovation more efficiently in gaining sustainable competitive advantage. The researcher suggested developing other factors, i.e. flexibility and safety to be included into TOE framework as it facilitates creativity, innovation and speed that able to contribute to sustainable competitive advantage.

The purpose of this research is to analyze impacts of innovation policy on global IC (Integrated circuit) industry. Countries analyzed are United States, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, and People''s Republic of China. Based on Rothwell and Zegveld''s model of "Industrial Innovation Policy", this research develops a cross-national comparative analysis of innovation policy, and focuses on three topics: the preference of innovation policy, the extent of influence of innovation policy on industrial innovation requirements (IIRs), and the competitive advantages (CAs) derived from IIRs in these four countries. The results show that all these countries prefer to use the two types of innovation policy tools, namely, "Scientific & Technical" and "Legal & Regulatory". Whereas United States prefers to use "Procurement", Republic of Korea prefers to "Financial" and "Taxation", and Taiwan prefers to "Political" policy. In terms of effectiveness of industrial innovation policies on IIRs, "R&D", "R&D Environment", "Technical Knowledge", and "Human Resource" exert the strongest impacts on their respective IIRs. For the IC industry of all countries, United States has all CAs in terms of IIRs, but none was evidenced for P.R.C. except for "Domestic Market Demand". Republic of Korea has only few CAs compared to People''s Republic of China, while Taiwan not only has many CAs relative to People''s Republic of China, but also relative to Republic of Korea in "Management Skill", "Human Resource", and "Financial Resource". Compared to the United States, Taiwan has competitive disadvantages in "R&D", "R&D Environment", "Market Information" and "Domestic Market Demand". This work generates several suggestions for Taiwan''s IC industry: the government should emphasize the policies in "Scientific & Technical" and "Taxation" to provide better R&D environment, build a complete information system to encourage knowledge diffusion and accumulation, and adopt "Procurement" policy to extend domestic market demand.

This thesis argues the operation of cross-national technology learning innovation network on the knowledge diffusion among US, Japan and Taiwan''s high-tech industry. Cross-national technology learning processes are influenced by many factors; they occur in interaction among technological, institutional, cultural, social network structural elements, which together is called “cross-national technology learning innovation network”. In these complicated learning processes, the countries with weak technological bases introduce cutting edge of technology from other advanced industrial country, learn new technological knowledge and integrate new knowledge in their existing knowledge, advance to the innovation stage. In order to conduct comparative analyses between Taiwan''s IC and LCD industry''s cross-national learning innovation network, I provide two stages of knowledge diffusion network mechanisms, one is the open network structure between knowledge receiver and brokerage, and the other is the closed network in the organization of knowledge receiver. Based on the cross-national field research the analysis reveals that the differences of social network structure among US, Japan and Taiwan have a profound influence on the introduction of foreign technical knowledge and know-how in Taiwanese IC and LCD industry. Open social network structure strengthens open knowledge diffusion network structure; closed social network structure has a positive effect on closed knowledge diffusion network structure. More specifically, closed network structure in Japanese industry strengthens the trust relationships among technical personnel in corporate organization, however, strong ties not infrequently impedes the knowledge diffusion and the mobility of human resources, brings out the problem of knowledge redundancy and the rigidity of organization. By contrast, in the open network structure of Taiwanese industry, there is a possibility of opportunism and leakage of advanced technology, however, extremely frequent knowledge diffusion and the mobility of human resources accelerate the assimilation of diversified knowledge, and it is unlikely to cause the rigidity of organization. In addition to this, Taiwanese government established several industrial clusters in Taiwan, technological knowledge and technical personnel flow freely in these industrial clusters. Technological knowledge diffuses across the boundary of each corporate organization along with the mobility of human resources, however, technological knowledge and know-how accumulated in the certain industrial cluster, turn into knowledge property in the entire industry.

Innovation in every company occupies a very important position, especially in the informational rapid change environment. In the past, many researches only discuss the exploitative innovation and explorative innovative, in recent years, a little research discusses two of the innovation ability at a same time called ambidexterity innovation. And in the past, ambidexterity innovation only used transformational leadership and transactional leadership to discuss it, only a few researches used empowering leadership to discuss. In addition, in the past to discuss innovation, most researches only used internal influence to discuss, there are few researches used external influence to discuss, so this study add the cross-team cooperation as external influence to discuss the relationship with innovation. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of team internal influences include transformational leadership and empowering leadership and the external influences include cross-team cooperation on ambidexterity innovation and innovation performance. This study is conducted with data collected from top 1000 Taiwanese manufacturers and top 600 Taiwanese service industries issued by Commonwealth magazine of Taiwan in 2014 and the company published by China Software Association website. The procedure uses the macro view to explore the digital game industry and improve the innovative environment. Now, there are many problems in the digital game industry, includes less supports of government, reduplicate allocation of resource and the scantiness of integration between the companies. In domestic studies, the researches on digital game industry focus on the analysis about companies and lack for integrated analysis on nation, industry and business. The “National Innovation Systems” represents the national integrated status of science and technology. In this study, we utilize three dimensions in theoretical model of “National Innovation Systems” to explore the digital game industry. The first part is main body of innovative activities, includes government and innovative policy, private business, funds, the supports of enterprising development and education. The second part is the interaction between the main bodies of innovative activities, includes the integration of technologic development, technologic extension and informal interaction. The third part is the demand of industry that means the development of technology and market in the future. We use the methods of literature review and professionals’opinions to suggest how to improve the innovative environment of digital game industry in Taiwan. The results reveal that the improvements in the national innovation systems of digital game industry are as follows: 1.Government and innovative policy Government must establish the short, medium and long term policy, strengthen the protected rules for industry, and support the RD of business. The feedback mechanism between industry and government can keep the steady development of business. 2.Private business Business must publish the games that are designed by themselves. And the star business in the industry can promote the development of the whole industry. 3.Supports of enterprising development and informal interaction Building the patent and valuation policy can apply the interactive bridge between the formations of “National Innovation System”. 4.Education Government must strengthen the education of human equipment. The game courses could become formal education. 5.Integration of technologic development Using outsourcing strengthens the mechanism of strategic alliance. 6.Technologic extension Government must build the permanently technologic team to research the foundation that is needed in designing the games and to reduce the business cost. 7.The development of industry in the future The industrial network is the trend in the future.

ABSTRACT An Operational Audit Innovation Study of Cross-Functional Team on Subsidiary Companies, Using Electronic Industry as an Example by Hsieh, Yen-Hua June 2008 ADVISOR(S): Dr. Goo, Yeong-Jia DEPARTMENT: DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION MAJOR:BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEGREE:MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION To respond to the corporation scale increasing into a worldwide company, the quantity and amount of the investment (for subsidiaries) have been increasing sharply, too. Such situations may raise the operation risk to the corporation. To efficiently manage the risk, it is important to set up a series management system to the subsidiary especially in internal audit system. But most of the IPO companies in Taiwan the manpower of audit units are insufficient. When parent companies have to audit their subsidiaries, due to the limit of resources (manpower, professional skills) they can only select the items that are familiar to the individuals in auditing. In such case, the activities of auditing are not based on the results of risk evaluation and will decline the values of such audit activities. Since the concept of cross-functional team brought up, the cross-functional team is widely applied to the development of new products, quality control, R&D, management and sales teams. Nevertheless, whether the cross-functional team can also be adapted to the internal auditing or not, there are few studies being discussed, that motivated me to do the research. The twelve samples of this research we apply all in electronic companies which pay-in capitals are over NTD 200M, the survey adopts deeply interview to analyze the following sectors: 1. What are the difficulties and solutions when they audit subsidiaries? 2. What should be the best practice when adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries? 3. What are the advantages and disadvantages when adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries? 4. What are the key successful factors when adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries? 5. What will it affect the functions of internal auditing when adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries? 6. What will it affect the performance of internal auditing when adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries? Conclusions: 1. The most difficult problem the sampled companies suffer when auditing the subsidiary is lack of manpower, 60% of the sampled companies think the application of Multi-Function-Team will resolve this difficulty. 2. When adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries, the best practice is: in first to have mutual consciousness with high-level management, select the qualify auditors, communicate auditing targets and points, and review previous auditing reports, when in the spot auditing it is important in team communications and discoveries confirmed, and it is necessary to reconfirm the discoveries when the audit report (draft) is presented. In the end the auditors present findings and suggestions and have high-level management of the audited units join the close meeting to get the improving commitments of all the discrepancies presented in the conclusion meeting from audited subsidiaries. 3. When adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries the advantages might be:(1) to expand the depth and width of profession technology, (2) to increase the efficiency of internal auditing, (3) to mend the insufficient manpower of internal audit units, and the disadvantages should be:(1) it is hard to manage such a team, the special training should be given to team leaders, (2) multi-background is the cause of mutual-conflict in the expectation and necessity which will decrease the productivity and the quality of decision, (3)multi-management against the leading law that is unique employee report to unique manager may cause the conflict in organization. 4. When adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries the first four successful factors are:the supports of high-level managers, offer the cross-functional team a clarified and uniform goal , the abilities of leading and the communicating of the team leaders and the qualify members to be recruited ( with adapted skills) 5. When adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries will raise the functions of internal auditing in several ways, (such as extremely independent, professional skills, human relationship and communication and the support and deem of the high-level managements) which will be positive and significant. 6. When adopting the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries will raise the efficiency of internal auditing in several ways, (such as the satisfaction of management, the satisfaction of the audited units, the suggestions which are presented by the auditing units incur the cost saving and organization risks decreased) which will be positive and significant. Discovery: Therefore the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries is workable and will increase the values of internal auditing. This paper suggests to adopt the cross-functional team in operating audit on subsidiaries to all the enterprises for nowadays circumstances with restricted resources and deem risk management a big project. Key-word:internal auditing, cross-functional team

Complicated and competitive business marketing environment is the both the result and cause of globalization and advancing technology. For limited resources, small to medium-sized companies, being continuously innovative in technology is one of the best strategies to stay competitive in the business. The goal of this research is trying to find out how the business organization, with the “inherent factor”— personality specialty and “external factor”— organization culture, influences personnel innovativeness. Totally 569 valid questionnaires are collected, analyzed and used to conclude this study. In which, 275 questionnaires are collected from Taiwan and 294 from mainland China. Most survey candidates are electronics engineers from the information technology industry. With statistical analysis on each variant, this study advises that both properly adapting the organization culture to the business environment and as well as hiring individuals with organization culture senses in mind are the most effective way for the business to strengthen staffing engineers’ innovativeness.

Under the trend of global competition, the enterprise has to keep creating its own value through innovation to increase the benefit and build organizational competences. The traditional sources of value innovations are from technical advances and customer service, but nowadays increasing the brand equity is the key factor to improve the business performance and exalt enterprise value. The structure of the whole society has emerged into a 'M-shape' distribution. Both the emergence of the 'M-shape society' and the global financial crisis seriously hit the global market, and all the enterprises have suffered much pressure and loss. In this thesis we propose a strategy to Taiwan’s high-tech industry, and expect it can break through the difficult position by building brand. Brand management is well recognized as an important topic of the enterprise. To gain competitive advantage and create enterprise value, Taiwan’s high-tech industry should put more emphasis on building brand. Through good brand image, the enterprise could deliver its value to the customers to breeds loyalty. Comparing all the industries, we find that the fashion industry has the best financial performance. The value the fashion brand creates from approximately 1 billion US dollars to 10 billion US dollars. Therefore, in this thesis, we take fashion industry as brand-building lead user to Taiwan’s high-tech industry. We analyzed the lead user process and the power of analogy to set up the cross-industry lead user model to show that the different industries can be inspired by each other's innovative experience and improve the enterprise value.
