The paper focuses on cylinders synchronized control in continuum press for particleboard hot-pressing. An equal-status cross-coupled synchronized controller based on disturbance and synchronizing compensators has been designed and employed to an electro-hydraulic servo system driven by bi-cylinder. The simulations demonstrate that the controller eliminates synchronizing error faster and control two motion-units to move synchronously in a cross-coupled system than the controller with no compensator. And the robust of system has been enhanced.

Abstract Piezoelectric actuators are subject to nonlinear effects when voltage-driven in open-loop control. In particular, hysteresis and creep effects are dominating nonlinearities that significantly deteriorate performance in tracking control scenarios. In this paper, we present an online compensator suitable for piezoelectric actuators that is based on the modified Prandtl-Ishlinskii model and utilizes recursive databases for the compensation of nonlinearities. The compensator scheme is furthermore extended to systems with more than one degree of freedom (DOF) such as Cartesian manipulators by employing a decoupling control design to mitigate inherent cross-coupling disturbances. In order to validate our theoretical derivations, experiments are conducted with coupled trajectories on a commercial 3-DOF micro-positioning unit driven by piezoelectric actuators.

One of the key issues regarding multi-axis contour following tasks in modern high-precision machining applications is how to effectively reduce contour error. Generally, among existing approaches, the Cross-Coupled Control (CCC) structure is widely used in multi-axis contour following tasks to improve contouring accuracy. However, when a servomechanism is operated in reverse or low-speed motions, the inherent friction force and external disturbance effects will degrade the CCC performance. Therefore, to cope with the aforementioned problems, this paper exploits the Karnopp friction model-based compensator and the Virtual Plant Disturbance Compensator (VPDC) to improve tracking performance as well as contouring accuracy. Moreover, an integrated motion control scheme is also developed to further improve contouring performance. The proposed scheme consists of two position loop controllers with velocity command feedforward, a modified CCC, two friction force compensators, and two disturbance compensators. To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, several free-form contour following experiments have been conducted on an X-Y table driven by two linear motors. Experimental results verify that the proposed approach can significantly enhance contouring performance for free-form contour following tasks.

Abstract The paper deals with the numerical simulation of the flow of thermally conductive viscous gaseous combustion products in the flow paths of a power plant. The influence of the shape of the mass supply surface on the gas dynamics and heat exchange near the recessed nozzle of the power plant is investigated. The coupled problem of heat exchange is solved by the method of control volumes. It is shown that the compensator geometry determines the localization of both the topological features of the flow near the recessed nozzle and the position of local maximums of the heat transfer coefficient. It has been revealed that The use of a channel with a star-shaped cross section and a triangular form of compensator rays leads to an intensification of heat exchange processes near a recessed nozzle.

In order to solve the problem that the position synchronous performance of dual permanent magnet synchronous motor servo system is easily affected by parameter perturbation and load disturbance, an anti-disturbance integrated position synchronous control strategy of dual permanent magnet synchronous motor system is proposed. Firstly, the integral mathematical model of a dual permanent magnet synchronous motor system is established. After that, the third-order linear extended state observer is constructed to observe and compensate for disturbance in order to improve the anti-disturbance performance of the position loop. At the same time, a cross-coupled position synchronous compensator is added to improve the synchronous performance of the system, and through the Bode diagram analysis method in the frequency domain, the system stability and anti-disturbance performance are researched. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by experimental research.

The capability of multi-axial machine tool feed drives to follow specified trajectories accurately is an important requirement for precision machining and especially so in applications involving high contouring speeds. In current generation machine tools, contouring is achieved by coordinating the commands to the individual feed drives, and implementing closed position loop control for each axis. The present paper deals with the evaluation of a cross-coupled compensator aimed specifically at improving contouring accuracy in multi-axial feed drives. The controller design is formulated as an optimal control problem. The performance index to be minimized weights the contour error explicitly. The controller is evaluated experimentally on a microcomputer controlled two-axis positioning table. Controller performance is evaluated for straight line, cornering and circular contours at feed rates varying from 2.25 m/min to 5.63 m/min. Measures of the steady state and transient contour errors are considered. The experimental results show that the proposed controllers reduce contouring errors considerably as compared to conventional uncoupled control of the multiple axes. The control action of the optimal controller is compared with that of more conventional uncoupled controllers.

Modeling or predicting aerodynamic loading effects on rotating equipment has been a source of concern to those who wish to examine stability or response of critical components. The rotordynamic model of the system employed for such examination assumes greater importance for active bearings than for passive ones, if only because of the additional potential for instability introduced by the controller. For many systems, aerodynamic loading may vary widely over the range of operation of the bearings, and may depend on extended system variables. Thus, potential controllers for active magnetic bearings require sufficient robustness or adaptation to changes in critical aerodynamic loading parameters, as might be embodied in cross-coupled stiffness terms for compressor impellers. Furthermore, the presence of plant or measurement noise provides additional sources of complication. Here, the previous development of a nonlinear controller for a hypothetical single-stage centrifugal gas compressor is extended by comparing the compensator performance using a multivariable Luenberger observer against that of a stationary Kalman filter, both gain-scheduled for rotational speed. For the postulated system, it was found that the slower poles of the Kalman filter did not observably detract from controller convergence and stability, while predictably smoothing out the simulated sensor noise.

The contour error is one of the most important specifications of a machine that has synchronous motion of multiple axes. To improve the tracking error of each axis is a sufficient way to reduce the contour error. The small tracking error, however, is usually done by high gain that is not practically. For reducing contour error of synchronous motion, the match of the dynamic characteristics, including nonlinear properties such as friction and backlash, of all axes is the essential issue. In this study, the plant to be controlled is a X-Y table, powered by servomotors, and the MRAC is used firstly to match the linear portion of dynamic characteristics of two axes. Moreover, the cross-coupled control scheme is utilized for further improvement of contour error. The computer simulations and experiments are presented to verify the usefulness of the algorithm. The results of experiments show that the contour error is reduced.

ABSTRACT Genetic algorithm is used as a tool to find the optimal gains for contour control of biaxial CNC machine tools in this work. In the past, this was usually done by trial and error, which became difficult and inefficient when the system became large and complicated. The addressed contour control schemes for CNC machine tools include conventional tracking system (Uncoupled system, US) , Cross-coupled biaxial control (CCS), and Cross-coupled pre-compensation control (CCPM ). The successful implementation of genetic algorithm in sequential determination of system gains for the addressed control schemes showed that the genetic algorithm is applicable to the dynamic system in a manner of system gains configuration.

Abstract Commercialization of printed electronics products requires uniform line width and thickness of the print pattern, which can be accomplished only by uniformization of the contact pressure in the roll-to-roll processs [1]. The conventional contact pressure control system has limitations in compensation, because the indirect measurement of the contact pressure performed by using the load cell generates time-delay error and magnitude error. In this study, a transfer function between the load cell signals and the actual contact pressure is derived to calculate the measurement time-delay, and the error was compensated by using a time-delay predictor. In addition, individual drive cross-coupled control system with time-delay compensator is designed in consideration of the effect that two servo motors have on the pressure on the other side of the impression roll to perform contact pressure uniformization.

Cross Coupled Iterative Learning Control (CCILC) has previously been applied to contour tracking problems with planar robots in which both axes can be characterized as similar systems; having similar dynamics and identical hardware. However, there are many repetitive applications in which dissimilar systems cooperate to pursue a primary performance objective. This paper introduces a novel framework to couple dissimilar systems while applying Iterative Learning Control (ILC), showing the ability to noncausally compensate for a slow system with a fast system. In this framework, performance requirements for a primary objective can more readily be achieved by emphasizing an underutilized fast system instead of straining a less-capable slow system. The controller is applied in simulation and experimentally to a micro-Robotic Deposition (μRD) manufacturing system to coordinate a slow extrusion system axis and a fast positioning system axis to pursue the primary performance objective, dimensional accuracy of a fabricated part. Experimental results show a 30% improvement in fabrication dimensional accuracy with only marginal changes in actuator effort in the slow system, as compared to independently controlled axes.

An analytical, numerical and experimental investigation of the dynamic behavior of a passive balancing system is presented. Due to the system constraints and dynamic characteristics, this system is capable of combined static and dynamic mass balancing. This work is an extension of previous studies in which ball-balancing systems were used to reduce harmful vibration caused by radial perturbation in the principal axis of inertia. In the present research, the imbalance compensation problem is divided into axial and radial components. A spherical suspension was applied at the rotational axis that allows the rotating disk to tilt, thus eliminating coupled dynamic centrifugal forces caused by the axial mass imbalance. In a fashion similar to earlier ball balancing systems, in this study the balancing balls were replaced by two single pendulums suspended in the geometrical axis of a disk in order to compensate for radial unbalance. The governing equations are developed, which results in a set of cross-coupled nonlinear differential equations, which are analyzed in detail. An experimental study is also conducted to validate and test the conclusions of the analysis and simulation work.

Tasks of parametric curved contour following can be widely seen in computer-numerical-control (CNC) machining of parts with complex geometric features. Due to the existence of the contouring error in contour-following tasks, the machining precision of CNC machine tools will be seriously degraded. To reduce this error, methods such as cross-coupled control are extensively researched. However, these methods focus on compensation of the already happened contouring error, based on approximation of the error value according to the online measured actual motion positions. This paper presents an adaptive real-time pre-compensation approach, so as to control the contouring error before it really occurs. First, actual motion positions of the feed axes at the next sampling period are predicted, according to the z-domain model of each feed-drive system. To improve the adaptive capacity of the actual position prediction, the feed-drive models are identified online using the least-square method. After that, an accurate contouring-error calculation method, based on tangential-error backstepping using a moving frame, is proposed. Finally, the adaptive estimated contouring error at the next sampling period is compensated at the current period, thus beforehand improving the contour accuracy. Simulation and experimental tests are conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the presented methods. From the testing results, it can be seen that the presented error-estimation method can precisely compute the contouring error, and the pre-compensation approach improves the contour-tracking accuracy dramatically, which is of great significance for improving the machining precision of the CNC machine tools.

Under high pressure, the elastic deformation of floating ring seals has a significant influence on the seal leakage flowrate and rotordynamic coefficients. The present study establishes a coupled model of the clearance flow and elastic structure of floating rings with bulk flow model and finite element method. The results show that the structural deformation reduces the clearance thickness and decreases the leakage flowrate. On the other hand, the elastic deformation reduces the direct stiffness, and increases the cross-coupled damping and inertia coefficients. In addition, the deformation induces the cross-coupled stiffness and direct damping to increase rapidly with increasing eccentricity ratio. Generally, the structural deformation deteriorates the rotordynamic characteristics of floating ring seals. In order to alleviate the adverse influences, a deformation compensation method is presented and proved to be effective.
