Scholars continue to respond to Willis's foundational work of the 1960s, and to each other, using a variety of classical and new methodologies to treat questions of unity, coherence, theme, and other aspects of the book of Micah. Sampling works that use literary criticism, text criticism, form criticism, historical criticism, tradition criticism, redaction criticism, rhetorical criticism, feminist and womanist approaches, canonical and intertextual approaches, and inter-disciplinary approaches, as well as innovative combinations of these (both multi-critical and multi-disciplinary), this article follows the progress of methodological trends in Micah scholarship from the 1980s to the present. These trends have generated new questions regarding ideological concepts such as justice; class differences and power; and the book's use in the church.

The context and content of the debate between Archibald Henry Sayce, Professor of Assyriology and Samuel Rolles Driver, Regius Professor of Hebrew, Oxford University, are described. The inter-related backgrounds of both men are discussed. While Sayce’s criticism was focussed on the literary analysis of the Old Testament, Driver criticised Sayce’s aims, which he had misunderstood. The debate revealed that different methodologies were applied by the two men and these reflected the distinct mindsets associated with archaeological research and biblical studies.

“‘Nobody told me’: Chicana Women’s Madness and Mourning in Sandra Cisneros’s Have You Seen Marie?” employs interdisciplinary research to understand Sandra Cisneros’ tale of women’s mental illness in Have You Seen Marie?. Building on Marta Caminero-Santangelo’s critique of the inequitable treatment of mental illness in literary criticism of women’s writing, I argue that Cisneros draws awareness to the distinct challenges that Chicanas face while struggling with mental illness. Contextualizing Cisneros’ representation of the grief a Catholic Chicana woman experiences after losing her mother, I draw on the work of scholars from theology, psychology, sociology, critical race theory, postcolonial theory, and disability studies to further understand the impact of colonization on familial gender roles, the importance of la Virgen de Guadalupe, and representations of mental illness.

Purpose Network analysis is a well consolidated research area in several disciplines. Within management and organizational studies, network scholars consolidated a set of research practices that allowed ease of data collection, high inter case comparability, establishment of nomological laws and commitment to social capital motivation. This paper aims to elicit the criticism it has received and highlight the unsettled lacunae. Design/methodology/approach This paper sheds light on Network Analysis’s breakthroughs, while showing how its scholars innovated by responding to critics, and identifying outstanding debates. Findings The paper identifies and discusses three streams of criticism that are still outstanding: the role of human agency, the meaning of social ties and the treatment of temporality. Originality/value This paper brings to fore current debates within the Network Analysis community, highlighting areas where future studies might contribute.

The major development that the Panel was involved in by invitation from the Inter-American Court was to submit an expert amicus brief in the El Universal case, which was winding its way through the Inter-American Court system, and just before Christmas last year, the Inter-American Court ruled. This was a case that involved the heart of political speech. It was criticism in the form of an opinion by a journalist working for El Universal, of the then president of Ecuador. So it really was the locus classicus of political speech in a democracy.

Objective: To examine and predict the relationship among sociotropy-autonomy, self-criticism and self-esteem in individuals with or without depression. Method: The cross-sectional, case-control study was conducted from November 2021 to July 2022 in various government hospitals and universities in Lahore, Pakistan, and comprised depression patients of either gender aged 20-40 years in group A. Healthy subjects matched for age and gender were enrolled in control group B. Data was collected using a demographic sheet predesigned in Urdu language, and the Urdu versions of Personal Style Inventory, Form of Self-Criticism/Attacking and Self-Reassuring Scale, and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Data was analysed using SPSS 21. Results: Of the 200 subjects, 100(50%) were males, while each of the two groups had 100(50%) subjects. The overall mean age of the sample was 27.93±5.23 years. Sociotropy-autonomy had a significant positive relationship with self-criticism (p<0.01) and a significant negative relationship with self-esteem (p<0.01). Self-criticism was significantly negatively correlated with self-esteem (p<0.01). Sociotropy-autonomy was a significant predictor of self-criticism and self-esteem (p<0.01). Inter-group comparison of the levels of sociotropy-autonomy, self-criticism and self-esteem were significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: Sociotropy-autonomy was a highly significant predictor of self-criticism and self-esteem. People with depression had high sociotropy-autonomy and self-criticism scores, and low scores in self-esteem. Keywords: Sociotropy, Autonomy, Self-criticism, Self-esteem, Depression.

The study of literary modernism is in the ascendant in the academy. From alternate modernisms, to neomodernisms, to metamodernism and global modernisms, modernism scholarship has evolved through a configuration of modernism into a cross-cultural and inter-generational aesthetic practice. This article critically examines the periodizing logic implicit in this new modernism scholarship, specifically as it pertains to the study of what is loosely called ‘neomodernism’, which we suggest presents a notable development in literary history for accounts of contemporary fiction and postmodern culture. We are principally interested in a recent trend we observe in modernism literary criticism concerning the futurization of the object (literary modernism), and of critical work thereupon. This work, which specifically addresses developments in contemporary Western Anglophone literature, seeks to extend the project of modernism (sometimes called its ‘promise’) into the present, understanding it as the principal agency in literary distinction and merit. We examine this criticism through a series of case studies, and discern three interconnecting strands in neomodernist criticism – three ways of futurizing modernism, and of self-futurizing modernism criticism.

In the article I discuss how deconstruction (Jacques Derrida and other Yale School participants) came to Lithuanian literary criticism and how it changed habits of humanitarian thinking during the three decades after independence. The most unusual and radical deconstruction critique of essentialist metaphysical thinking, new terminology (inter-text, elimination of center, footprint, writing, difference, blinding, labyrinth narrative, guest / enemy, etc.) and new strategies for interpreting texts were very important for Lithuanian humanities liberated from Soviet ideology. Literary critics have noticed and discussed the undoubted connection between postmodernist literature and its deconstructive reading.We can find three tendencies in the deconstructive criticism of Lithuanian literature. The first tendency is the interpretation of general theoretical concepts of deconstruction, second tendency - searching the deconstructive features in literary works and the third tendency of criticism, expanding its own self-criticism and self-irony, is discussing chrestomathic and structuralist interpretations of the literary works or deconstructing icons of Soviet culture. We know very well, that many feminist, postcolonial, historiographic, anthropological, or interdisciplinary researches of literature cannot escape the effects of deconstruction.

This article builds on previous research concerning the need for ethics and communication at the expanding human-animal-environment interface. COVID-19 has shown how humans, animals, and the environment are highly inter-connected. Approximately 60% of human infectious diseases in the 20th century originated in animals, and about 75% of new infectious diseases have spread from animals to humans. Although the One Health approach to medicine clearly recognizes the interconnection between people, animals, and the environment, it is also open to criticism. The One Health approach tends to focus exclusively on zoonosis while ignoring the environmental effects caused by huge capital-based development. This article examines the concept of One Health from an ecological level and discusses its achievements, the criticisms that have been raised against it, and the tasks that remain for research based upon it.

One would hardly expect that anything approaching meaningful analysis might emerge where the work in question was not being artistically understood; nor would reasonable criticism seem to be possible in such circumstances. On the other hand, at least a little may be ‘ruled in’. Were 1 myself, for example, not baffled by Delius, I might not have made the observation upon which the present article rests.

The episodic flow of seaborne refugees from Haiti since 1991 has been a key factor in spurring the inter-American community to oppose Haiti's military rulers. The flotilla of rafts leaving Cuba since early August 1994 has engendered high-profile negotiations on migration between Washington and Havana. The stream of undocumented labor migrants from Mexico to the United States has regained momentum since the late 1980s and is encountering increased public criticism, especially in the western United States.Underlying these instances of political tension is a strong, and only partially-met, demand for migration to the United States from parts of Latin America and the Caribbean on the one hand, and a growing anxiety in the US to “control the nation's borders” on the other.

Marketplaces and e-commerce are at the forefront of changes associated with the development of platform and digital capitalism. Changes in the nature of hiring and the status of workers in platform capitalist companies reflect general employment trends. At the same time, the work of hundreds of thousands of workers in this segment is poorly studied, and explanations of its nature are mainly theoretical. This article is based on an analysis of an array of diary entries by Russian social ethnographer Andrey Starovoitenko, who worked for several months in the distribution center of one of the leading Russian marketplaces. The article is part of a column devoted to the analysis of materials from an ethnographic study of labor in the marketplace. The article draws attention to the role of anonymized marketplace spaces in the desubjectivization of workers who feel like a simple continuation of a complex digitalized socio-technical system. The text talks about the place of digital surveillance and control and the role of special equipment in integrating unskilled personnel into the complex algorithmic system of the marketplace. Separately, the issue of desubjectivization of marketplace workers and the limitations of professional socialization is considered. The conclusion is made about the place of precarious wage labor in e-commerce, taking into account the desire to transfer unskilled labor into the state of digital day laborers deprived of contractual relations with the company. To reveal the main plots, the Amazon research by A. Delfanti, the theoretical resources of Roth's neo-Marxist interpretations of the labor sphere, Z. Bauman's concepts of light capitalism, and selected theses of the actor-network theory are involved. In addition, the article refers to examples of social criticism of labor in the factories of platform capitalism, reflected in modern cinema.

AbstractI respond to the five papers of criticism in this issue of Philosophy. I argue that my cognitive dualism, which may be open to the theological objections levelled by Fiona Ellis, is vindicated by its ability to explain both freedom and inter-personal relations. I defend the inter-subjectivity of aesthetic judgment against Simon Blackburn's argument from ‘the acquaintance principle’, and my vision of cultural decline against the sceptical arguments of Samuel Hughes. The crucial role played by subjectivity in my fiction, discussed by Alicja Gescinska, enables me to add to David McPherson's account of existential conservatism, with which I largely concur. I end on a note of puzzlement, as to why such innocent arguments should be the target of such implacable hatred.

Observational rating methods are used frequently in ergonomic job analysis because they are less costly and time consuming than other methods. The ACGIH recently published a threshold limit value (TLV) for repetitive work. This TLV suggests the use of one such observational method developed by Latko et al. (1997) for rating Hand Activity Level (HAL) and peak force. One criticism of Latko's method is the unknown reliability and consistency of the raters during the analysis process. Latko suggests the use of two or more trained observers to increase this consistency. This study analyzed 410 jobs at an automotive assembly plant using 2 observers recording initial and final ratings. A weighted kappa was calculated for the HAL and peak force before and after discussion. Before discussion, HAL reliability was rated as moderate and peak force as fair. After discussion, both HAL and peak force kappa values were rated as good.

Court decisions on bail applications by governors who face prosecution over corruption related crimes have come under sharp criticism from those who believe orders barring the governors from accessing their offices during trial offend the law since they amount to constructive and unprocedural removal from office. One such critic is Duncan O’kubasu who has penned a piece criticizing the decision of Lady Justice Mumbi Ngugi in the Moses Lenolkulal Case. This paper responds to that criticism by highlighting several flaws in the arguments presented by O’kubasu. He starts by understating the threat that corruption poses to the Kenyan society as the basis for undermining the inter-agency collaboration to address the vice, as well as the Judiciary’s own efforts as part of that collaboration. The rest of his arguments are founded on the wrong question, that is, whether the governors facing trial should be removed from office. Beyond these foundational errors, the rest of the paper contains a number of errors that culminate in his flawed conclusion that the decision amounts to ruinous judicial activism. When looked at in the context of the constant blame the Judiciary has faced in recent years when it has been labelled as the weakest link in the fight against corruption as well as the quest of the Kenyan people for ethical leadership, this paper argues that the decision is sound and Judges like Mumbi Ngugi J ought to be celebrated for sticking their necks out in defence of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

In this article, I focus on the increasing interest taken by European political and educational policy makers in inter-worldview education. My article has two parts. The first part consists of a document analysis of pivotal European publications on this and related issues. In the second and more critical part of this article, I make explicit my concerns about these European pleas for inter-worldview education. The main criticism that I present below is that the European policy on inter-worldview dialogue views the problem of intolerance too much as an individual problem that can and must be dealt with pedagogically, without recognizing that intolerance is just as much a structural socio-political problem. Important European policy documents, to be examined in the first part of this article, do not discuss how the way our societies are structured results in a sustenance of inequalities and in the marginalization of certain groups of people. At no point does these documents link inter-worldview education to the need “to examine the ideologies and structures of society critically,” as a consequence the plea for dialogue loses some of its critical and transforming potential.

AbstractThis paper challenges criticism of Romania's new child protection and adoption legislation, passed in 2004 and implemented in January 2005. It responds to the argument that Romania's indefinite moratorium on inter-country adoption (except in cases of family adoption) embodied in the new legislation, is a breach of international obligations. It is argued that pressure on Romania to lift the moratorium is based on a misunderstanding of the problems Romania has faced and of the substantive content of the new laws. Institutionalisation of young children is prohibited and, for older children, clear priorities are created for re-integration in the natural family or, failing that, foster care or family-type accommodation before accommodation in an institution can be considered. It is further argued that there has been an unhealthy preoccupation in the West with the single issue of inter-country adoption to the neglect of these other positive reforms to the Romanian child protection system and the programme of de-institutionalisation. The view is taken that criticism of Romanian reforms relies on a distorted notion of what constitutes 'abandonment' and the status of 'orphan'. The author concludes that Romania should robustly resist political pressure to lift the moratorium, largely originating from the pro-adoption lobby in the United States and, most recently, apparently endorsed by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Conflicts in the family and between families that often lead to divorce often occur among ethnic marriages in the Tapal Kuda areas. This study intends to explore and describe the communication strategies used in inter-ethnic communication as an effort to anticipate and resolve intra and inter-family conflict perpetrators of interethnic marriages. The ethnographic approach to communication with the focus on sociolinguistic study is used to achieve the research objectives. Research informants are inter-ethnic marriages, parents, religious leaders, and KUA officers who are often involved in overcoming issues related to marriage and divorce. Data were collected through participant observation, interviews, and recording. The collected data were transfered in written data and analyzed qualitatively and descriptively with sociolinguistic, ethnographic communication, and pragmatic theories. This research results found that there are three factors that often trigger the failure of communication in inter-ethnic marriages so that they can often also be obstacles to the achievement of speech objectives. These three things are language skills, interaction skills, and cultural knowledge. However, the most dominant thing that occurs and often invites criticism from other cultures is the knowledge and understanding of the culture of other speech communities.

This article explores the Congolese remembering of the experienced colonial violence through the medium of literature. Although criticism of colonialism is not a favourite topic of Congolese writers, there exists an important corpus of texts, especially when the literary production of Congo Kinshasa and Congo Brazzaville with their politically distinct though sometimes similar experiences is taken into account. Three main strategies of writing about the topic can be distinguished: a documentary mode, an allegorical mode and a fragmented mode, which often appear in combination. Intertextuality with the colonial archive as well as oral African narrations is a recurrent feature of these texts. The short stories of Lomami Tchibamba, of the first generation of Congolese authors writing in French, are analysed as examples for a dominantly allegorical narration. Mythical creatures taken from the context of oral literature become symbols for the process of alterity and power relations during colonialism, while the construction of a heroic figure of African resistance provides a counter-narrative to colonial texts of conquest. Thomas Mpoyi-Buatu’s novel La reproduction (1986) provides an example of fragmented writing that reflects the traumatic experience of violence in both Congolese memory of colonialism and Congolese suffering of the present violent dictatorial regime. The body of the protagonist and narrator becomes the literal site of remembering.

The activity of Branko Popović is primarily defined in historiography through valorizations of his artistic oeuvre and his role as an art critic, one that he continuously undertook during the first half of the 20th century. Given that Popović's contributions to architectural criticism and the interpretation of contemporary architectural phenomena and problems have often lain outside the main scope of particular research endeavours, instead often being presented in summarial form within monographs and anthologies, there is an acute need for elaboration of this area of his outputs. Popović primarily received his higher education at the Technical Faculty in Belgrade, where he later held the role of professor of history of art and architecture, and during the Second World War he held the position of Dean. The aim of this work is to present, through the review and analysis of articles published in pre-war and inter-war periodicals, another aspect of Popović's interpretations and criticisms, based on perceptions of and participations in contemporary events in the field of architecture, which would complete his contribution to the shaping of artistic thought.

No taking or avoiding of chances, but utilising all chances! A sociorhetorical appreciation of Ecclesiastes 11:1-6. The book of Vemon K Robbins, Exploring the texture of texts: A guide to sodo-rhetorical interpretation (Valley Forge: Trinity Press, 1996), is used to analyse the short, but complicated text, Ecclesiastes 11:1-6. Sodorhetorical criticism provides for a sophisticated grasp on the complex phenomenon, "text". The analysis of the different textures of a text (inner, inter-, sodal and cultural, ideological and sacred) creates a rich environment of meaning, within which interpretation can take place. The conclusion reached on Ecclesiastes 11:1-6 is that it adheres to the values of protest wisdom, but mnrkedly cynical and pessimistic. It advocates a "carpe diem" lifestyle, however, without escaping uncertainty. No interpretation is value-free and neither is this one. Hopefully it is sound within the created environment of meaning.

This essay examines George Moore's autobiographical writing, prose fiction, and criticism for new ways of understanding shared tensions between narrative and theatre conventions in the 1880s and 1890s. Defiantly experimenting with speculative and fictionalised reminiscence, inter-arts comparisons, and consideration of an artist's care for their own reputation, Moore offers a rich field for explorations of the longevity and obsolescence of textual forms. Moore's reminiscences of British and French Impressionist painters focus more intently on the emergence of their reputations than their actual technical innovations, extending a habit developed in his novels of the 1880s of treating artistic production as small cells of a much wider network of affiliated entertainment industries. Likewise, his alternately gossipy and prescient art and theatre criticism maps surprising relations between the reception of Japanese prints, naturalism in England, changing theatrical conventions, and the influence of print journalism in ways that defy the usual periodising histories of Victorian and Edwardian fiction.

Examining ways in which gender is marked in the press coverage of self-produced, folk-rock artist and record label owner Ani DiFranco, this paper explores how language employed in rock criticism frequently functions to devalue and marginalise women artists' musicianship, influence on fans, and contribution to the rock canon. Investigating how the readerships of different publications may influence the ways in which journalists mark gender in rock criticism, this study utilises a corpus of 100 articles on Ani DiFranco published between 1993 and 2003 from print and online magazines and newspapers in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Focusing on the use of inter- and intra-gender artist comparisons, adjectival gender markers and ‘metaphorical gender’ markers in artist background information, lyrical and musical analyses and descriptions of fans, this analysis maps the discursive conventions that music critics and theorists continue to rely on in reviews and profiles of women artists.

This essay examines the concept of the inner being in Christian and Hindu religio-philosophical discourse. The terms Atman in Hinduism and soul in Christianity both pertain to the immaterial aspect or essence that is believed to exist within a living being. While these terms are used interchangeably within the cultural context of India, it is essential to recognize that they carry distinct meanings and connotations. Using mimetic literary criticism basedon a comparative analysis of Andrew Marvell’s A Dialogue between the Soul and the Body and Adi Shankara’s Tattvabodha, this essay uncovers the similarities and differences between the seide as. The study shows that the concept of soul is different from that of Atman, and that using these terms interchangeably can lead to misinterpretations and distortions of both traditions. The essay highlights the importance of employing accurate terminology to correctly convey philosophical and theological concepts, and stresses the importance of cultural sensitivity and mutual respect in inter-faith discussions.

SynopsisHigh expressed emotion in relatives has been shown to predict a poorer outcome in a range of disorders and cultures. However, variation in predictive power is considerable, and this could partly be due to low inter-rater reliability. Sixty-nine relatives of 47 acutely admitted schizophrenic patients were interviewed using the Camberwell Family Interview. Audiotapes were assessed by pairs of raters drawn from a group of seven approved raters. Inter-rater reliability was good for criticism, hostility, emotional over-involvement (as a six level scale) and expressed emotion index (EOI cut-off score 2–3); and it was fair, but unsatisfactory, for emotional over-involvement (binary scales), warmth, positive remarks and expressed emotion (EOI cut-off score 3–4). These findings suggest that the warmth scale and the dichotomized versions of the EOI scale should be used with caution. The influence of warmth on the outcome in schizophrenia may have been underestimated because of low reliability.

As multimodal text, Internet memes encompassing verbal and visual elements have a significant function in producing meaning both independently and inherently. In addition, they are not only used to entertain the reader through humorous messages, but also used to convey moral message. This research investigated the ideational meaning and the critical message in the internet memes related to the interaction between teacher and students in teaching and learning activities. It was conducted to reveal experiential and representational meaning; inter-semiotic logical relations; the portrayed events; and the implied problems as criticism to both teachers and students contained in these Internet memes. They were obtained from Instagram account of @9gag. Focusing on the ideational meaning, it applied three theories, namely, transitivity system, representational component of visual grammar, and inter-semiotic logical relations. It also applied the theory of relevance to reveal the critical message behind these internet memes. Several studies, related to the internet memes both in multimodal discourse analysis and pragmatic study, have been conducted. Nevertheless, this present study is the development of those studies using different approach. Specifically, this study focused on internet memes concerning teachers and students interaction which have never investigated before. The results revealed five kinds of verbal processes; five kinds of visual processes; six logical relations between caption and image; five portrayed students’ behaviours; nine problems implied in student figure; and six problems implied in teacher figure. Through this study, the readers are expected to understand both wisdom and un-wisdom messages of criticism in the Internet memes.

Text-critical research of the past two decades suggests, however, that this equation may be a short circuit. The term “Old Testament" refers to a theological concept, not a text, and “the Old Testament” is something different from “the Hebrew Bible”. Therefore, a great deal of rethinking is called for in Old Testament studies.

In the advertisement prefacing Charles O’Conor’s Dissertations on the antient history of Ireland (1753), the editor challenged an unnamed gentleman who had, apparently, smeared the good name of the author. The editor, Michael Reily (who went under the cognomen ‘Civicus’) was intricately involved in this dispute from its early stages and did not spare any criticism for the individual he deemed responsible, Dr John Fergus, the erstwhile friend and associate of both Reily and O’Conor. ‘A Gentleman of great Reputation’ alleged Reily, had branded O’Conor with ‘the meanest Species of Immorality’. The dispute did not centre on some esoteric point of Irish mythology or any disagreement over issues of interpretation. It was not even, at least not in any direct way, a rift over political issues regarding the penal laws and the status of papists in the Irish polity, a tendency quite prevalent among the fissiparous Catholic organisations and pugilistic personalities of this period. Rather, it was wholly concerned with those most pertinent aspects of existence for an eighteenth century gentlemen – credit and honour. The disagreement was about Newton’s Chronology and its application to the Irish annalistic corpus as a means of validating the latter – not about the principle of its applicability, nor regarding the minutiae of dates or similar arcana, but to who should gain the credit for appropriating Newton’s prestige to such a particularly Irish topic.

Based on a brief source analysis of an Arabic-language work of a prominent Dagestan Sufi sheikh Hasan-Hilmi al-Kakhi “Durra al-bayda’ fi raddi-l-bada’ wa-l-ahwa” (A shining pearl for the refutation of innovations and whims), the article reveals the essence of an inter-Sufi dispute between the followers of different Sufi brotherhoods, which took place in Dagestan at the end of the 19th – early 20th centuries. This dispute was expressed in mutual criticism and accusations of some Sufi figures of being “false sheikhs”. The polemics were mainly initiated by the representatives of the Mahmudiyya branch of the Naqshbandi brotherhood; their opponents were the representatives of the Khalidiyya branch, which at that time amounted to the largest number of followers. One of the most active participants in the inter-Sufi polemics was the Naqshbandi sheikh Hasan-Hilmi al-Kakhi. In his work “Durra al-bayda’ fi raddi-l-bada’ wa-l-ahwa” al-Kakhi strongly criticizes some Dagestani Sufis, who, in his opinion, illegally engage in mentoring activity without the appropriate investiture, and thereby discredit the Sufi teaching. In the same work, al-Kakhi first attempted to classify the “Dagestani false sheikhs.” He devoted several more of his later works to this issue, in which he generalized and supplemented his ideas, while his positions on some issues and the rhetoric itself changed greatly. Al-Kakhi’s criticism provoked a backlash from his opponents. This problem was also reflected in the Arabic-language polemical works of other Dagestan Sufi contemporaries. The study of this issue is an important part in revealing the history of the spread and development of Sufism in Dagestan.

The study in the first topic dealt with the meaning of translation in language and terminology, as well as the types of translation. and the meanings of the Qur'an into English through the ages .The second topic came to talk about examples of translations of the meanings of the Qur'an in satellite channels, and to show how close or after these translations about the meaning contained in the books of interpretation. The study concluded that some translations were different from the correct meaning, which had to be corrected.

AbstractThis paper will analyse instances and threats of withdrawal from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) in order to assess whether those cases can be qualified as backlash. Backlash often serves as an umbrella term for any form of disagreement, hence we differentiate ‘backlash’ from closely connected concepts such as ‘contestation’ and ‘resistance’. In the empirical part of this paper, we examine four cases of withdrawal from the IACtHR or threats thereof, namely Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Peru and Venezuela. The case-studies revealed that the criticism against the IACtHR is fuelled by a combination of three conditions, namely costs of membership, the domestic political system and the domestic impact of the judgments. Ultimately, the specific framework of the IACtHR allows innovative starting points to manage state discontent, in particular the two-tiered structure, the alliance with civil society and the presence of compliance partners within the state.

The notion and crucial principles of the economics of sustainable development are also discussed. The proposed new paradigm in economics is strong sustainability. The theory put forward is strictly related to the idea of sustainable development and the rules of inter- and intragenerational justice and responsibility in the meaning of environmental ethics.

Ambiguity of Plato's criticism is equally visible in the poetical quality of his own text and in the constant identification of the intra-textual voices with poets. This essay is trying to enlighten some of that ambiguity's aspects and implications.

AbstractUsing conversational data, frequency counts, and prosodic evidence drawn from corpora of 70 television drama series and 142 audio-recorded natural conversations, I demonstrate that the Korean connective construction hakonun ‘after having done,’ which comprises ha ‘do’, ko ‘and’ and the topic marker nun and indicates a temporal sequence, has developed into a final particle that encodes a speaker’s stance of criticism and complaint. I show that the source, hakonun, has routinely been used in expressing concessive relations between two sequential events that go against the speaker’s expectation (‘counter-expectation’), and thus, is frequently used to challenge a hearer (e.g., ‘after having done many evil deeds, how can you ask for my help?’). Through this use, the speaker’s negative affect and stance of disapproval have become semanticized with hakonun. Drawing on the theoretical frameworks of (inter)subjectification and insubordination, I propose that hakonun and Japanese shi ‘and’ constitute another case of crosslinguistically similar development of connectives becoming final particles. McGloin and Konishi (2010) argue that through its frequent use in the context of counter-expectation, shi ‘and’ has recently developed into a final particle expressing a speaker’s negative stance such as criticism and complaint.

The Cognitive Therapy Scale is a well-established tool for assessing skills in delivering cognitive therapy, but has been subject to criticism. It has recently been updated by two groups, producing the Revised version or CTS-R (Blackburn, James, Milne and Reichelt, 2000) and a version designed for therapy of psychosis, the CTS-Psy (Haddock et al., 2001). The present study made a direct comparison of these scales to evaluate their inter-rater reliability, the extent to which they measure the same therapist qualities, and their utility for assessment of skills in trainee therapists working with different client-types. Twenty-six trainees submitted tapes of therapy with clients suffering either personality disorder or psychosis. Each tape was rated by two independent assessors on each of the two scales. Results suggest the scales are both fairly easy to use and produce highly similar estimates of student competence. Client diagnosis has no significant influence on the scores obtained by the therapist. However, inter-rater reliability is relatively low. It is concluded that safeguards are needed where these scales are used as a training outcome measure.

The objective of this article is to reconstruct the political policies of the New Order government regarding inter-religious relations in Indonesia, particularly in chiming with the relationship between religious communities and the government during 1966-1998. The method applied in this research is the historical method with research steps, namely, source collection (heuristic), source analysis (criticism), interpretation and historiography). The results of the study reveal that in general the New Order government in the period 1966-1998 took a two-way policy towards the religious community, namely on the one hand developing religious life in rituals and avoiding the religious community from political discourse. From this policy, the term “Tri Kerukunan” (Tri Harmony) emerges. which indicates a tripartite relationship between religious adherents, internal religious communities, people, and the government which is more dominated by a discourse on the relationship between Muslims and the government or the state. At the level of ideological-political policies related to inter-religious relations, the government develops exclusive and centralistic policies. Meanwhile, at the socio-religious level, since the beginning, the government has developed quite pluralist policies. This pluralist tendency can be seen from the participation of extra-state elements in policy formulation. Thus the format of government policies regarding inter-religious relations is not merely religious but is framed with macro policies, especially in the fields of politics and ideology.

Some rehabilitation and social reinsertion measures have been discussed or addressed, such as socio-educational measures and even technical careers that help the social reinsertion of persons deprived of liberty. The penitentiary system has been under the eye of the hurricane and criticism, since it did not comply with the minimum standards required by national and international organizations such as the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and Human Rights Watch. International treaties that according to the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador have a parallel hierarchy to it and therefore are binding for our internal legal system.

It will be interdisciplinary and conducted by way of philology, sexuality studies, feminist studies, cross-cultural criticism, and inter-religious dialogue. Topics include the relationship between religion and sexuality, concubinage in late Ming China, the Jesuits’ attitude towards concubinage, and the case study of the Confucian Catholic Wang Zheng’s struggle. A cross-cultural study of the Six Commandment not only illustrates the complex interaction between religion, sexuality, and gender but also presents early encounters of the Chinese and Christian cultures and the dialogues between them.

From this, John Locke tried to bring up the theory and concept of justice to achieve a prosperous society, but John Locke's theory and concept of justice ended in social capitalism and the behavior of prejudicial others that comes with critics from the Westerns. So, the purpose of writing this paper is to criticize John Locke's theories and concepts of justice with several theories of justice from other scientists, reveal the positive and negative sides of the whole, then only take the positive side. The writing of this paper uses the analytical-descriptive method to describe the theory of justice by John Locke and several other scientists, then analyze it to reach criticism and the positive and negative sides. So then by writing this paper will contribute to the integration of John Locke's concept of justice with including Islamic values. The result of integrating the concept of justice is that John Locke plays a role in expressing that there is a lack of wishful thinking about John Locke's concept of justice and the Islamic concept that can gain prohibition demonstrating that the Islamic law concept can support any tone without compromising any side.

The paper aims to show the possibilities and perspectives of improving Serbian-Albanian relations through the establishment of the "Open Balkans" project. Confrontation policies enabled the creation of inter-ethnic intolerance and provided support to political elites, leading these societies in the direction of conflicts and rejection of mutual cooperation. In the era when Serbia and Albania are trying to become part of the European Union, there are numerous obstacles and a lack of support from European countries on this path. Accordingly, these countries initiated regional political and economic integration. "Open Balkans" was designed as an initiative of the countries of the Western Balkans with the aim of advancing these countries on the European path. Part of the criticism of this project is reflected in the expectation of help from the countries of the European Union, which was absent in the original processes of European integration. This initiative represents a mini-precedent in the European history of integration and is the way to restore friendly Serbian-Albanian relations. "Open Balkans" should open a new economic space for cooperation between Serbian and Albanian economies, help overcome inter-ethnic prejudices and create preconditions for faster adoption of European values.

Despite the universal status of the Ferrara-Florentine Cathedral, the union of the Orthodox and Catholic Churches approved by him provoked ambiguous, but often very negative reactions. This is especially true of the Orthodox East, where the idea of inter-church unification ages in a row was subjected to devastating criticism, and in cases of real attempts to introduce the union, there was a strong resistance from the individual zealots of the Byzantine Orthodoxy and their supporters. An exception to this rule was not the Orthodox Russia, the spiritual leader of which and the believer, and subsequently the researchers of various fields of humanitarian knowledge, did not reach a common view on the canonicality of the Ferrara-Florence Union, and thus the legal basis for its introduction.

Purpose The authors aimed to examine the presence and character of inter- and intra-approaches to replication studies published in five leading marketing journals (Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Marketing Science, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science) across four decade intervals (i.e. 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010/2011). The research sought answers to three research questions. Design/methodology/approach Content analysis of a randomly selected sample of 2,717 articles found 128 replicative studies in the journal issues. Comparisons of the replication approaches of the studies address two issues: the criticism that intra-study replication is not true replication as it is inconsistent with the criterion of researcher independence and the reported outcomes of the replicative studies relative to those of the original studies. Findings Overall, the presence of replications increased over time; however, the increase was attributable primarily to the number of intra-study replications published in two decades, the 2000s and 2010/2011 intervals. Conflicting findings infrequently appeared in the replication studies regardless of approach, indicating the possible existence of confirmation bias in the marketing literature. Originality/value Replication in marketing is either improving or stagnant depending on the accepted definition of replication. Of special importance, given the questioning of the intra-study approach as true replicative research, more replicated findings produced by independent researchers are needed to establish theoretical validity of marketing knowledge for use by both marketing academicians and decision makers.

This study describes the history of the company in the field of PT. NPM transportation. This type of research includes qualitative research using historical research methods. In historical research there are several steps namely heuristics (collecting data), source criticism (making criticism of existing sources), interpretation (making interpretations related to historical facts) and historiography (writing history). The results of this study explain the development of PT.NPM Padang Panjang as a family company still survives until the third generation. PT. NPM Padang Panjang was established in 1937 by Bahauddin Sutan Barbanso Nan Kuniang. In 1997 the company experienced a setback caused by several factors, namely; (1) the monetary crisis caused capital and spare parts costs to be expensive, so that it affected the increase in transportation prices, (2) the strategy of low-cost aircraft fares since 2002, (3) the existence of travel and minibuses resulted in passengers leaving large buses as a result PT. NPM stopped the AKDP (Inter-City Within Province) route in mid 2008. In the third Angga Vircansa Chairul (2009) PT. NPM experienced a heyday after formalizing tourism transportation in 2012 under the name Vircansa Tour Bous. End of 2018 a fresh breeze for transportation companies after the government implemented an increase in aircraft fares. Until 2019 PT. NPM serves regular transportation and tourism with the latest online ticket and route purchase system to Riau province.
