The case histories of five men who met DSM-lll criteria for bulimia and details of their physical characteristics are given. Various eating disorder questionnaires were administered and the results indicated that most of these instruments would not have identified the men as suffering from an eating disorder. The necessity of caution in asserting the prevalence of bulimia using these measures is emphasised.

Field observations on 449 debris flows in the Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia, are summarized. Movement of debris is classified according to seven characteristic types designated for the purposes of the study. Data on the physical characteristics of the events are presented. An analysis of the data is made with reference to event initiation, yield, and deposition using both mechanistic and morphological criteria. For those events which initiate on an open slope, the infinite slope model is used to establish a relationship between field drainage class and slope angle, for assumed frictional and cohesive soil strength parameters. The field drainage classes are directly related to the postulated location of the groundwater surface within the depth of the rupture plane. Deposition of channelized events is found to be influenced by the ratio of channel width to channel gradient, with the onset of deposition expected when the ratio exceeds unity. Five classes of depositional area are proposed. The magnitude of debris material deposited by an event is described by a channel debris yield rate which shows considerable variation with each event type. The conclusions of this study are based on postevent field measurements of deposited and eroded debris material. A limitation of the study arises from the difficulty of accurately describing an event some years after it has taken place. The features of morphofunctional characteristics and their influence on sports selection in aerobics are analyzed in the article. Practical experience shows that the rapid training of athletes who specialize in aerobics depends on a certain type of physique. Therefore, today, there is a set of pedagogical and medical-biological criteria that determine the rapid training of athletes engaged in aerobics. In the course of numerous researches in the field of physical education and sports the morphological and functional indicators characterizing the fast-trained athletes specializing in aerobics have been revealed. The peculiarities of the human constitution attract the attention of researchers in studying the factors of success of activity in sports of higher achievements. Among the large number of constitutional indicators, the morphofunctional features of the athlete's body are of the greatest interest. They affect the manifestation of strength, flexibility, speed, endurance, performance and adaptation of the organism to different environmental conditions, the speed of recovery after physical and mental stress. Practical experience shows that the rapid training of athletes who specialize in aerobics depends on a certain type of physique. Therefore, today, there is a set of pedagogical and medical-biological criteria that determine the rapid training of athletes engaged in aerobics. At our time, the good is the sound of the health of people with social and economic development, science and technology progress and their access. On an economically and socially disadvantaged march, the flow of information, lower activity, and the greater loss of psychological and emotional strength are greater, which is more burdensome and weaker health. Pedagogical criteria for sports selection allow you to divide athletes who specialize in aerobics into fast and slow training, with significant differences in morphological performance.

The article analyzes the current state of professional training of future physical education teachers in higher education institutions of Ukraine for local lore on the basis of a competent approach. The criteria, indicators and levels of readiness of future physical education teachers for local lore in the course of their professional training are highlighted. A number of different approaches to the evaluation of the criteria for the formation of readiness of future specialists have been investigated. The correspondence of each criterion of readiness of future teachers of physical culture to local lore activity is established by the indicators reflecting qualitative and quantitative characteristics of its competences. On the basis of the analysis of the psychological and pedagogical literature, the indicators of the readiness of future teachers of physical culture for local lore are determined, namely: motivational, cognitive and activity. The boundaries of the level of preparedness of future physical education teachers for local lore are clearly defined on the basis of the competence approach: insufficient, sufficient and high. The criterion of formation of future physical education teachers' readiness for local lore is an objective characteristic that reflects its essential features and by means of which they make comparative assessment of the effectiveness of its formation in traditional and isolated pedagogical conditions. The structure of future physical education teachers' readiness for local history activities included a motivational component, a cognitive component, and an activity component. The level of readiness for local lore activity of future physical education teachers has been determined: insufficient level (low, reproductive), sufficient level (average, productive), high level (creative). The readiness of physical culture teachers for local lore is determined by the functions: cognitive, communicative, developmental, adaptive, informative, reflexive.

One of the most efficient methods of improving the durability of a product is applying different coatings to the working surface. The quality of decorative and protective coatings is determined by the quality of workpiece surface (roughness, texture, etc.), preparation of workpiece surface (contamination, presence of oxide films, degree of surface activation by ion etching), and the production methods. The article presents the results of a series of experiments in creating multi-component ion-plasma coatings by vacuum deposition on Ti-Al basis. A series of experiments aimed at obtaining single-layer coatings have been carried out using a certain pattern of sputtering in argon and nitrogen environment. The obtained coatings can have a wide variety of colors. Different properties of the created coatings including spectral characteristics, reflection coefficient at different angles of incidence of light as well as chemical composition have been studied. The energy-dispersive electron microprobe analysis revealed the dependence of coating reflection coefficient and spectral characteristics on the chemical composition.

This study aimed to present a standard and normal distribution of Taekwondo athletes’ physical characteristics and physical fitness profiles using a systematic review. A systematic search was conducted using four Korean databases (Research Information Sharing Service, National Digital Science Library, DBpia, and Korean Studies Information Service System). From 2010 to 2020, we reviewed 838 papers on Taekwondo athletes’ physical characteristics and physical fitness factors (e.g., body composition, muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, cardiorespiratory fitness, power, agility, balance, speed, and reaction time). Of them, 24 papers were selected and analyzed. The criteria for selecting the physical characteristics and physical fitness factors for data extraction were set to have a total sample size of more than 30 individuals and included two or more studies. The sample size and average and standard deviation of physical characteristics and physical fitness factors were extracted from each selected study. In this study, the estimation error of all variables, except for the eyes-closed single-leg stance (15.71%), was less than 8%. Therefore, it was confirmed that there was no problem with the validity of the estimated values. These results could be used as an essential objective basis for evaluating the physical characteristics and physical fitness profiles of Taekwondo athletes in most countries worldwide and setting training goals.

The increasing volume of consumption of probiotics and functional food products requires determination of standardized criteria for cultures and their exometabolites used in functional products manufacturing. The study was aimed at developing criteria for the estimation and standardization of exometabolites and the colony-forming ability of probiotic strains for functional food production. The work included such microbiological and physicochemical methods as GC-MS, GPC, UV, and FT-IR-spectroscopy. Based on the results of the study, the comparative analysis of the microbiological properties of probiotic Bifidobacterium strains was provided, the fatty acid composition of the cell wall was described, and the physical and chemical study of the exopolymers produced by them was carried out. According to the data of FT-IR- spectroscopy, the characteristic features of the components of the cell wall of Bifidobacterium strains were established. Bifidobacteria form the unique composition of organophosphorus structures of lipoteichoic acids, which determines the adhesive ability of strains. The authors studied the molecular weight distribution of the samples of exometabolites isolated from the nutrient medium after the cultivation of bifidobacteria, under conditions of gel-permeation chromatography. The spectral (UV, FT-IR) characteristics of the produced metabolites and their chromatographic fractions were compared. The fatty acids of the Bifidobacterium cell membrane were analyzed using the GC/MS method. The fatty acids were extracted from bacterial cells with different hydrophobicity with a mixture of chloroform and hexane. It has been established that the hydrophobicity is determined by different contents of unsaturated and branched fatty acids in the bacterial membrane. Hydrophobic bifidobacteria are the only that contain the isopentadecane (isoC15:0) and methyl-tetradecanoic (13Me-C14:0) acids. With the mean hydrophobicity, a high content of the isopalmitic (isoC16:0) and stearic (C18:0) acids was established. Low-hydrophobic strains are characterized by a low content of monounsaturated fatty acids.

AbstractThe geophysical and dynamical criteria introduced in the “Definition of a Planet in the Solar System” adopted by the International Astronomical Union are reviewed. The classification scheme approved by the IAU reflects dynamical and geophysical differences among planets, “dwarf planets” and “small Solar System bodies”. We present, in the form of a decision tree, the set of questions to be considered in order to classify an object as an icy “dwarf planet” (a plutoid). We find that there are 15 very probable plutoids; plus possibly 9 more, which require a reliable estimate of their sizes. Finally, the most relevant physical and dynamical characteristics of the set of icy “dwarf planets” have been reviewed; e.g. the albedo, the lightcurve amplitude, the location in the different dynamical populations, the size distributions, and the discovery rate.

The article is devoted to the pressing problem of managing the reliability and durability of transport constructions. Modern scientific approaches to assessing the technical condition of transport facilities based on an analysis of element degradation during the life cycle of operation considered. The article presents the advantages and disadvantages of the most common prediction models of the technical condition of building structures. Each model uses a characteristic criterion for degradation of building structures: load and unload cycles, rejection number of chlorides, intensity coefficient, a geometric parameter (parameters) of the crack in the material, reliability, etc. The problem of choosing the control parameter of the lifecycle model of the bridge elements is analyzed. The theoretical basis for the Markov phenomenological model of damage accumulation and the model of degradation based on the physical and mechanical characteristics of the material formulated. Depending on the stage of the life cycle, it is proposed to select the type of prediction model.

Abstract Utilization of rapidly growing trees, such as eucalypts, for high-yield mechanical pulps is limited by low brightness owing to high contents of alkali and neutral extractives. Wood supply problems have developed in many areas of the world and new sources of high-yield pulp are needed. Ten Eucalyptus globulus trees were selected from two plantation sites to evaluate suitability as raw material for high-quality and high-yield pulp. Chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP) was prepared from tree chips pretreated with sodium sulfite prior to refining. Characteristics of the CTMP were correlated with chemical and physical properties of the wood. There was a linear relationship between the content of alcohol-benzene extractives in wood and CTMP brightness. Klason lignin content in wood was inversely correlated with pulp sheet density, which is an important characteristic affecting the physical properties of pulp. The content of alkali extractives were inversely correlated with pulp yields. Color reversion was tested by exposing CTMP sheets to heat and light. Heat-induced yellowing of CTMP was of a low level and satisfied requirements for printing paper. The rate of yellowing was inversely associated with extractives and can be reduced by antioxidants.

Introduction. The development of Ukraine cannot be achieved without the powerful educational potential of the nation, namely, not high-quality training of specialists in all sectors. The realization of this goal is impossible without one of the most important components of the educational process - physical education. Physical education helps students in the formation of professional skills, brings up the basics of a healthy lifestyle, improves their health, and increases the level of physical and functional fitness. Therefore, the issues of improving the content, forms and methods of physical education of schoolchildren in secondary schools remain relevant. The article considers and analyzes the importance of independent physical education classes. An innovative technology is proposed to increase the interest of schoolchildren in independent physical education classes with the aim of increasing physical fitness indicators, as well as maintaining and strengthening health. Hypothesis of the study is that independent physical education will improve the physical fitness of high school students. Research purpose to determine the impact of different types of independent physical education on the physical fitness of high school students. Research methods and materials. The proposed innovative technology contains the following components: purpose, objectives, directions, organizational and pedagogical conditions, stages of implementation and performance criteria, which in turn are related to each other and in the complex solve the problem of involving high school students in independent physical education. Methods: analysis and theoretical generalization of scientific and methodological literature, pedagogical observation, pedagogical experiment, pedagogical testing, methods of mathematical statistics. The study involved 74 high school seniors who belong to a major medical group and have no health disabilities. Results. The data of the experimental study of the impact of the developed innovative technology on the indicators of physical fitness of older school-age children are presented and its effectiveness is proved. Conclusions. In order to improve the performance of older school-age students, innovative technology was proposed that included the use of information technology and control systems. After the introduction of innovative technology, qualitative characteristics of physical fitness showed that the majority of students EG1, EG2, EG3 and EG4 after the experiment have a sufficient level of physical fitness (p <0,05). The aim: Of article reveals the essence of the matter of scientific substantiation of theoretical concepts of pedagogical characteristic of natural-science competence of physical therapy specialist to be and stages of its formation. Materials and methods: To achieve an object of the research a complex of research methods was used, in particular, theoretical ones: analysis and synthesis of scientific andmethodic literature, methodic and normative documents ; synthesis and systematization of research data; synthesis of scientific theories, approaches and conceptions to define the conditions of education of physical therapy specialist to be; empirical methods: observation and questioning. Conclusions: In process of the research were defined: step-by-step specific features of natural-science education process, functions , typical activity tasks and types of skills of physical therapy specialist to be which made it possible to define the criteria of the formation of natural-science competence and formulate their competence characteristics. The developed criteria and indicators made it possible to substantiate the development of phased substance of natural-science education of physical therapy specialist to be at higher educational institution.

This study assessed the physical development, physical fitness (muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, agility, power, balance), and basal metabolic rate (BMR) in a total of 4410 children aged six (73–84 months) residing in Korea. Their physical fitness was visually classified according to the physical fitness factor and—considering that children showed great variations in the physical fitness criteria depending on their physique and body composition—the study aimed to assess characteristics such as physique and BMR, the precursor for fat-free mass, based on the physical health clusters selected through a multivariate approach. As a result, the physical health clusters could be subdivided into four clusters: balance (1), muscular strength (2), low agility (3), and low physical fitness (3) cluster. Cluster 1 showed a high ratio of slim and slightly slim children, while cluster 2 had a high proportion of children that were obese, tall, or heavy, and had the highest BMR. We consider such results as important primary data for constituting physical fitness management programs customized to each cluster. It seems that it is necessary to have a multidirectional approach toward physical fitness evaluation and analysis methodologies that involve various physical fitness factors of children.

As complex man-made systems that are home to the majority of the world population, cities have always faced a wide range of risks such as earthquakes. As the backbone of urban systems, physical components, including buildings, transportation networks, communication networks, and open and green spaces, are also vulnerable to disasters. To enhance the capacity to deal with disaster risks, enhancing urban resilience has recently become an essential priority for cities. This study aims to develop and pilot test a framework to evaluate urban physical resilience based on resilience characteristics and associated physical indicators. Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) was used to determine the relationships between physical indicators, and Multi-Criteria Decision-Making methods were applied to determine the relative importance of the characteristics. The results showed that the ‘Robustness of Building’, ‘Building Density’, ‘Aspect Ratio’, and ‘Street Width’ are the most important among the twenty physical indicators considered in the proposed framework. Subsequently, the proposed framework was applied to one of the districts of Kerman, a major city located in the southwest, earthquake-prone part of Iran. Overall results indicate low levels of physical resilience. The findings of this study can provide urban planners and decision-makers with more transparent and practical insights into the physical resilience of cities. Results can also be used to design and implement policies and programs to improve the current conditions.

In the context of landfilling dewatered wastewater sludge in Hong Kong, with landfills up to 140 m high, one of the most significant properties of sludge is its physical nature with regard to moisture characteristics and associated geotechnical stability. Commonly, lower limits are set on total solids content, but no geotechnical stability criteria are applied with the exception of Germany where a minimum requirement for vane shear strength is set at 25 kN/m2. The purpose of this study was to determine and evaluate dewatered wastewater sludge from three Hong Kong municipal wastewater treatment plants with regard to the following physical and geotechnical properties: (i) vane shear strength; (ii) consolidation characteristics such as compression index, compressibility factor, coefficient of consolidation and compressibility coefficient; and (iii) hydraulic characteristics such as permeability and intrinsic resistance. Although dewatered sludge exhibits quite different characteristics as compared to soils, predictive logarithmic relationships may be established between various properties which are consistent with the critical state model for soils, conventional filtration and consolidation theory. Such representation provides a valuable basis for understanding the sludge characteristics and behaviour to landfill design.

The subject of research – dew honey is highly valued in the food industry, and the authentication of its origin, in particular the differentiation from blossom honey, the assessment of its safety and quality requires the use of adequate parameters. In this context, sensorial indicators are the primary attributes available for use by ordinary consumers. The said indicators, together with melissopalynological analysis, are the indicators of the botanical and geographical origin of honey. Physical and chemical parameters supplement the information on the characteristics of the localization of the samples, as well as assess their safety and quality. The purpose of the study was to determine the differences between the pollen spectrum, sensorial, physical and chemical parameters of Ukrainian dew honey of different regional origin. Methodology. To achieve this goal, the sensorial, physical and chemical characteristics, as well as pollen profile of 8 samples of dew honey were analyzed. The results of the study. For most of the criteria for assessing the physical and chemical parameters obtained during the study, the data can be considered as being within the ranges of parameters values established within the national regulatory framework for safety and quality of honey – DSTU 4497:2005 ‘Natural honey. Specifications’ and the Order of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine of June 19, 2019 № 330. However, all samples did not meet national criteria for the electrical conductivity and more than a half of all samples did not meet national criteria for the mass fraction of glucose, fructose, and sucrose. The spectrum of pollen showed the presence of high content of spores of fungi, yeast, and green algae, the content and ratio of those differed due to the geographical origin of honey samples. The sensorial evaluation was performed for color, taste, aroma, consistency and crystallization, the presence of fermentation signs. The tendency to crystallize was detected in half of the honey samples, all samples were characterized by a brown range of different tinges, the smell and taste of each sample had a unique bouquet determined by the origin of honey. In one sample of honey with the high yeast content, the initial stages of fermentation were observed, which were accompanied by the presence of vinegar odor. The results obtained in this study indicate satisfactory quality, acceptable freshness, as well as the authenticity of each individual sample of honey. The special characteristics of dew honey differ from those of flower honey, therefore, it may be appropriate to revise the national regulatory framework to adjust the requirements for assessing honey safety and quality. Scope of research results is to apply the obtained results for further authentication of dew honeys for further study of their properties and wide application in the field of nutrition.

Objective. To study age-related interrelations between cytokine concentrations and parameters of physical development in children with inflammatory diseases of the oropharynx. Materials and methods. 50 children aged 3 to 14 years were examined. Serological tests were performed to determine cytokine concentrations in oronasopharyngeal secretion, their interrelationships, as well as physical development of children with assessment of anthropometric parameters using the centile method. Results. As was found, interleukin-1β concentrations in oral and nasopharyngeal secretions in the group of schoolchildren exceed more than twice this parameter in the group of preschool children. At the same time, the cytokine interferon-g in schoolchildren decreases as compared with preschool children. According to the results of our study, the deviations of the average group anthropometric parameters (body weight and length) in children with inflammatory diseases of the oronasopharynx from the normative values are determined by the dynamic of individual adaptive variability with the predominant restriction of weight parameters. Disharmonious physical development, increasing with age in children with limited adaptive variability, predominantly of weight characteristics, correlates with lower values of the similar characteristic of their local immune response. Conclusion. The results of adaptive immune response and interconnections between cytokine concentrations in oronasopharyngeal mucosa and the anthropometric parameters of children of varied age might serve as the diagnostic markers of local immune response and prognostic criteria for the course of inflammatory diseases of the oronasopharynx in this cohort of children. (ii) Your being conscious in the primary ordinary sense, to sum up a wide figurative database, is initially clarified as something's being actual – clarified as actual consciousness. (iii) Philosophical method like the scientific method includes transition from the figurative to literal theory or analysis. (iv) A new theory will also satisfy various criteria not satisfied by many existing theories. (v) The objective physical world has specifiable general characteristics including spatiality, lawfulness, being in science, connections with perception, and so on. (vi) Actualism, the literal theory or analysis of actual consciousness, deriving mainly from the figurative database, is that actual consciousness has counterpart but partly different general characteristics. Actual consciousness is thus subjectively physical. So physicality in general consists in objective and also subjective physicality. (vii) Consciousness in the case of perception is only the dependent existence of a subjective external physical world out there, often a room. (viii) But cognitive and affective consciousness, various kinds of thinking and wanting, differently subjectively physical, is internal – subjectively physical representations-with-attitude, representations that also are actual. They differ from the representations that are lines of type, sounds etc. by being actual. (ix) Thus they involve a subjectivity or individuality that is a lawful unity. (x) Actualism, both an externalism and an internalism, does not impose on consciousness a flat uniformuity, and it uniquely satisfies the various criteria for an adequate theory, including naturalism. (xi) Actual consciousness is a right subject and is a necessary part of any inquiry whatever into consciousness. (xii) All of it is a subject for more science, a workplace. (xiii) There is no unique barrier or impediment whatever to science, as often said, no want of understanding of the mind-consciousness connection (Nagel), no known unique hard problem of consciousness (Chalmers), no insuperable difficulty having to do with physicality and the history of science (Chomsky), no arguable ground at all of mysterianism (McGinn).

IntroductionAlthough the criteria for physical frailty and depression partly overlap, both represent unique, but reciprocally related constructs. The association between inflammation and frailty has been reported consistently, in contrast to the association between inflammation and late-life depression (LLD).Aim and objectivesTo determine whether physical frailty is associated with low-grade inflammation in LLD.MethodsThe physical frailty phenotype, defined as three out of five criteria (weight loss, weakness, exhaustion, slowness, low physical activity level), and three inflammatory markers [C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and neutrophil gelatinase–associated lipocalin (NGAL)] were assessed in a sample of individuals aged 60 and older with depression according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, criteria (n = 366).ResultsThe physical frailty phenotype was not associated with inflammatory markers in linear regression models adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle characteristics, and somatic morbidity. Of the individual criteria, handgrip strength was associated with CRP and IL-6, and gait speed was associated with NGAL. Principal component analysis identified two dimensions within the physical frailty phenotype: performance-based physical frailty (encompassing gait speed, handgrip strength, and low physical activity) and vitality-based physical frailty (encompassing weight loss and exhaustion). Only performance-based physical frailty was associated with higher levels of inflammatory markers.ConclusionThe physical frailty phenotype is not a unidimensional construct in individuals with depression. The article considers the possibility of using the analysis of digital images for a comprehensive assessment of the physical characteristics of grain: vitreous and linear dimensions.Results. A comparative characteristic of instrumental and organoleptic methods for determining these indicators by the following criteria is given: stability of results, speed of measurements and data processing. An algorithm has been developed that combines the ability to programmatically determine glassiness and linear dimensions of wheat grains based on their digital images. A relationship was found between an increase in the vitreous nature of the sample and an increase in the stability of the results.

BackgroundTo evaluate the characteristics of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) in primary and tertiary care.MethodA comparison of subjects fulfilling criteria for CFS seen in primary care and in a hospital unit specialising in CFS. Subjects were 33 adults fulfilling criteria for CFS, identified as part of a prospective cohort study in primary care, compared to 79 adults fulfilling the same criteria referred for treatment to a specialist CFS clinic.ResultsHospital cases were more likely to belong to upper socio-economic groups, and to have physical illness attributions. They had higher levels of fatigue and more somatic symptoms, and were more impaired functionally, but had less overt psychological morbidity. Women were over-represented in both primary care and hospital groups. Nearly half of those referred to a specialist clinic did not fulfil operational criteria for CFS.ConclusionThe high rates of psychiatric morbidity and female excess that characterise CFS in specialist settings are not due to selection bias. On the other hand higher social class and physical illness attributions may be the result of selection bias and not intrinsic to CFS.

Although there are only a few wastewater stabilization lagoon plants in Portugal, this treatment system is particularly attractive because of the low energy requirements and because its operation is simple and the operating costs are small. Furthermore, the climatic factors are also favourable. In this context, the main objective of the study, which was undertaken in the Frielas experimental complex, on the outskirts of Lisbon, was the development of an appropriate stabilization lagoon design procedure for application in Portugal, regarding the raw wastewater characteristics and the climatic factors. The results obtained include the physical, chemical and biological characteristics and the flow rates of the influent and effluent wastewaters from the lagoons. The following main conclusions were reached:–the lagoons are normally over-designed, in particular the anaerobic and the facultative lagoons;–the soluble BOD concentration in the effluent, in general, meets the discharge requirements;–due to the presence of algae in the effluent, the TSS concentration is higher than the corresponding concentration in a secondary effluent.

Objective: University study is often accompanied by a decline in physical activity (PA) levels but can offer the opportunity to promote a lifelong active lifestyle. This review aims to summarize controlled trials of interventions promoting PA among university students, describing the quality of the evidence, effective strategies, and deficiencies in the interventions employed, to provide directions for future research and for practical implementations. Data Source: PubMed, PsychINFO, Cochrane Library, Education Source, and SPORTDiscus. Study Inclusion Criteria: Randomized or nonrandomized controlled trial, describing an intervention to promote PA in university students, where PA was one of the outcomes and results were published in English. Data Extraction: Country, study design, participants’ inclusion criteria, participation rate and characteristics, randomization, blinding, theoretical framework, intervention characteristics, participant retention rate and withdrawal reasons, measures employed, data analysis, PA results, and findings regarding PA correlates. Data Synthesis: Data were synthetized considering study characteristics, strategies used, and outcomes. Results: Two thousand five hundred eighty-five articles were identified. Twenty-seven studies met the inclusion criteria. Sixteen studies reported an increase in PA levels. Conclusion: Physical Activity promotion interventions should address a range of behavioral determinants. Personalized approaches and PA sessions should be considered in future studies. The high risk of bias of many studies (mainly due to attrition and poor reporting) and missing information about intervention components limit the strength of conclusions about the most effective strategies and the evidence of effectiveness, highlighting the need for further high-quality studies.

Background: People aged 50 years and older are regularly identified as the most sedentary group in the population. However, even within this group, there are considerable interindividual variations in physical activity (PA) levels. They have been the subject of many studies. Based on single studies, no clear picture as to which characteristics are important has emerged. Objective: The goal of our contribution was to identify which individual characteristics are consistently linked to high PA levels in older adults. Methods: We conducted a systematic review of the literature considering demographic characteristics (gender, education, marital status, employment), health (subjective, health problems), and psychological factors (motivation, self-efficacy, locus of control). A systematic search of abstracts in the database Web of Science and a thorough screening process according to a priori specified criteria yielded 63 studies for inclusion in this review. Results: Two psychological factors - motivation and self-efficacy - and the perception of one's health seem to be consistently linked to higher PA levels in older adults. Selected demographic variables - gender and education - may be important for some types of PA. Conclusion: Our review suggests that differentiation of PA by domains is important for identifying and understanding which individual characteristics are associated with PA levels and how. Pinpointing what reliably distinguishes older adults who are active from those who are not is essential for designing effective interventions to promote PA in later life.

Marination is one of the methods that are often used in beef processing in an attempt to obtain high quality of beef. Cashew apple extract marinade (CAM) improves the microbiological characteristics of meat by inhibiting the growth of meat bacteria. The effect of CAM on other aspects such as physical (microbiological, tenderness, cooking loss, water holding capacity and pH) and chemical (moisture, fat and protein content) characteristics of meat have not been evaluated, which would be beneficial for the utilisation of agroindustry waste in the meat industry. In this study, the effect of CAM on the physical and chemical characteristics of beef, including microbiological characteristics, tenderness, cooking loss and water holding capacity, was evaluated. CAM (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%) was used during beef processing for 4 h at refrigeration temperature. Significant effects of CAM were observed on the physical and chemical characteristics of beef. CAM increased beef tenderness and reduced total bacteria, cooking loss, moisture, fat, and protein content. The optimum concentration of CAM for which significant changes were observed in the physical and chemical characteristics of beef was 20%. Thus, cashew apple can be utilised as a promising marinade agent in beef processing with the criteria of food for specific health use. This approach will help reduce cashew apple waste and is an eco-friendly approach.

In this study, dynamic characteristics are determined based on the impulse response method, the correction of discretization errors and the identification of equivalent physical parameters, as found in the vibration model having one degree of freedom. In the experiments, the test tool is cylindrical bar shaped and made from solid tungsten carbide, and four toolholders with chucking mechanisms, including the shrinkfit type, collet type, hydraulic type, and press-fit type, are used. Since it had been previously confirmed that one of the tool preparation jigs had dynamic characteristics similar to those of an actual machine tool’s spindle, the dynamic characteristics of the jig could be measured the way the spindle system is measured in this study. From the experimental examinations, the following were clarified. (1) Chucking of the tooling system enhances the first mode vibration of the spindle system markedly. (2) The type of tool chuck used changes the dynamic characteristics of the spindle system. The trend in the dynamic stiffness corresponds well with that in the equivalent damping coefficient but is opposite to that in the equivalent stiffness. (3) The magnitude order of the dynamic characteristic parameters of the spindle system corresponds well with the inherent values of the dynamic characteristic parameters of the toolholders themselves; that is, the inherent dynamic characteristics of the tooling system can be used as the criteria to estimate the effect on the dynamic characteristics of the spindle system.

An oven drying method was used to dry traditional Indonesian crackers, popularly known as kerupuk, applying drying temperatures of 50, 60 and 70°C and three different flavours, i.e., garlic, chili and seaweed. Newton, Page, Two terms, Midilli, Logarithmic and Henderson &amp; Pabis mathematical models were used to fit the best model while the standard error of estimate (SSE), root mean square error (RMSE) and coefficient of correlation (r) were chosen as the criteria to determine the equation of the best fit drying model. The Midilli model was the best fit for all the kerupuk flavours. The effective moisture diffusivity was in the range of 1.0413 × 10<sup>–10</sup>–1.6363 × 10<sup>–10</sup> m<sup>2</sup>·s<sup>–1</sup> for the garlic flavour, 1.0007 × 10<sup>–10</sup>–1.5619 × 10<sup>–10</sup> m<sup>2</sup>·s<sup>–1</sup> for the chili flavour and from 1.0000 × 10<sup>–10</sup> to <br /> 1.6228 × 10<sup>–10</sup> m<sup>2</sup>·s<sup>–1</sup> for the seaweed flavour. The activation energy of the garlic flavour, chili flavour and seaweed flavour kerupuk are 20.64, 20.64 and 22.57 kJ·mol<sup>–1</sup>, respectively. Furthermore, in the present study, the physical properties, i.e., the colour and hardness of the kerupuk crackers after the drying process was investigated.

Aims: We examine the characteristics of participants entering Norwegian Healthy Life Centres, their reasons for attending and whether socio-economic status, motivation, self-efficacy and social support relate to physical activity and sedentary behaviour. Methods: This cross-sectional study is part of a randomised controlled trial. Inclusion criteria are that participants should be ≥ 18 years old and able to take part in a physical activity group intervention. Exclusion criteria are severe mental illness and general learning disability. We analysed data using simple and multiple linear regression analyses. Results: We recruited 118 participants from eight Norwegian municipalities between June 2014 and September 2015. Of these, 77% were female, mean (standard deviation) age 48.6 (13.4) years, body mass index 34.0 (5.8) kg/m2 and mean gross family income €61,000. The proportion of participants with upper-secondary school or less as their highest level of education was 55%. The most frequent reasons given for attendance at Healthy Life Centres were being overweight, increasing physical activity, improving diet and having musculoskeletal health challenges. Participants had high levels of autonomous motivation and 79% achieved national recommendations for physical activity. Respect and appreciation in childhood, self-esteem and self-rated health were associated with self-efficacy and social support for physical activity. Conclusions: Participants were predominantly obese, physically active, female and motivated for change. A high proportion had low educational attainment and low incomes. The trial will reveal whether interventions succeed in increasing physical activity further, or in decreasing sedentary behaviour, and whether health inequalities narrow or widen across groups.

Abstract. Field investigations of the properties of heavily melted “rotten” Arctic sea ice were carried out on shorefast and drifting ice off the coast of Utqiaġvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska, during the melt season. While no formal criteria exist to qualify when ice becomes rotten, the objective of this study was to sample melting ice at the point at which its structural and optical properties are sufficiently advanced beyond the peak of the summer season. Baseline data on the physical (temperature, salinity, density, microstructure) and optical (light scattering) properties of shorefast ice were recorded in May and June 2015. In July of both 2015 and 2017, small boats were used to access drifting rotten ice within ∼32 km of Utqiaġvik. Measurements showed that pore space increased as ice temperature increased (−8 to 0 ∘C), ice salinity decreased (10 to 0 ppt), and bulk density decreased (0.9 to 0.6 g cm−3). Changes in pore space were characterized with thin-section microphotography and X-ray micro-computed tomography in the laboratory. These analyses yielded changes in average brine inclusion number density (which decreased from 32 to 0.01 mm−3), mean pore size (which increased from 80 µm to 3 mm), and total porosity (increased from 0 % to > 45 %) and structural anisotropy (variable, with values of generally less than 0.7). Additionally, light-scattering coefficients of the ice increased from approximately 0.06 to > 0.35 cm−1 as the ice melt progressed. Together, these findings indicate that the properties of Arctic sea ice at the end of melt season are significantly distinct from those of often-studied summertime ice. If such rotten ice were to become more prevalent in a warmer Arctic with longer melt seasons, this could have implications for the exchange of fluid and heat at the ocean surface.

Анотація:
The purpose of this study was to quantitatively combine and examine the results of studies pertaining to physical activity and cognition in children. Studies meeting the inclusion criteria were coded based on design and descriptive characteristics, subject characteristics, activity characteristics, and cognitive assessment method. Effect sizes (ESs) were calculated for each study and an overall ES and average ESs relative to moderator variables were then calculated. ESs (n = 125) from 44 studies were included in the analysis. The overall ES was 0.32 (SD = 0.27), which was significantly different from zero. Significant moderator variables included publication status, subject age, and type of cognitive assessment. As a result of this statistical review of the literature, it is concluded that there is a significant positive relationship between physical activity and cognitive functioning in children.

The geomembrane market for waterproofing ground ponds used to isolate olive mill wastewaters offers a wide choice both in terms of the material used and liner thickness and size. With regard to the physical and mechanical properties of the material forming the geomembrane, this paper proposes a method for the assessment and design of the waterproofing system. This method foresees the calculation and analysis of geomembrane stress caused by the most stressful conditions, also taking into consideration the physical characteristics of the material within the pond, the elastic and elastic-plastic behaviour of the geomembrane and the physical characteristics of the soil. Criteria and graphs for the rapid dimensioning of the waterproofing system are also proposed. In addition to the environmental and climatic characteristics of the site, the results presented also take into consideration the dimensional characteristics of the ponds and the physical properties of the olive mill wastewaters. &nbsp;

Currently, 1 in 3 Canadian seniors meet the criteria for successful aging, which include low probability of disease and disability, high cognitive and physical ability and active engagement in life. The sociodemographic characteristic of living alone can identify high-risk seniors, due to its association with lower social support and interactions, thus increasing susceptibility to negative health outcomes in older age. However, limited data exists on the living arrangements of Canadian seniors. In this analysis, we present sociodemographic characteristics and measures of health and social well-being of seniors by living arrangement. This information should be used to identify and support vulnerable seniors and increase the prevalence of healthy aging among Canadians.

To improve the naturalness of synthesized voices, the relations between the physical characteristics of the synthesized voices and the psychological effects should be established. The authors performed a psychological evaluation using natural voices of men and women as stimuli. The method of principal component analysis was applied to intercorrelations, the numerical racings of the evaluation, and principal components were extracted which represented aspects ordinary people use to evaluate natural voices. Pitches of the voices used in the evaluation were analyzed as samples of physical voice parameters, and the relations between the pitches and the principal components were examined. Four principal components were extracted, representing aspects to which most people were observed to pay most attention when listening to voices. A significant relation was also found between physical pitches which were standardized by sex and the perceived pitches which were introduced from the principal component scores. This finding suggests that different criteria are used for perceptions of pitches of men and women.

Questions of the construction of dispersed structures of polymer composite materials using a generalized model of dispersed filled polymer composite materials (DFPCM) are studied. Using the parameter of maximum proportion of filler (φm) allows you to take into account the size, shape, and distribution of part of the dispersed filler at the same time. The transition to generalized and specified parameters when describing the structure of the DFPCM leads to the possibility of highlighting the optimal criteria for obtaining systems with the highest strength characteristics. The transition to generalized and reduced parameters when describing the structure of DFPCM leads to the possibility of selecting optimal criteria that ensure obtaining systems with the necessary level of rheological, electrochemical, physico-mechanical and other characteristics.

The distribution of costs for electricity and heat production is accomplished by a number of fairly conditional methods. Cost analysis and allocation must be carried out on the basis of objective technical and economic criteria. The application of a method is determined by the introduced regulatory frameworks, energy markets and the prices of energy products. There are two fundamental methods – "physical" and "exergy". The physical method is based on the distribution of costs, and the exergy on the second law of thermodynamics. The article reviews and analyzes the tariff policy of the Thermal power plant. Objective criteria have been identified to serve as a means of forecasting and controlling fuel consumption. The thermal efficiency of a Thermal power plant has been evaluated. A comparison was made with similar Thermal power plants. A fundamentally new approach is proposed to determine the main technical and economic criteria of the plant. The proposed method allows determining indicators that uniquely characterize the thermal and economic efficiency of the plant without the need for diversification of fuel costs

Based on the core, thin section, scanning electron microscopy, well logging and the physical properties of reservoir, according to the research on the volcanic reservoirs characteristics of the E2-3S3 Formation in Oulituozi area, obtaining the following points: Basalt, trachyte and tuff are mainly lithology, overflow facies are main lithofacies, secondly explosive facies and volcanic sedimentary facies; Secondary reservoir spaces are often superimposed on the original reservoir spaces, and pore, hole and slit together form the effective reservoir spaces; The reservoir property show that the trachyte are the best, secondly the basalt and tuff; Reservoir lithology, lithofacies, thickness, fracture development, physical and electrical properties and other reservoir parameters are the main evaluation criteria to conduct the reservoir comprehensive evaluation.

Post-intensive care unit (ICU) sequelae, including physical and mental health problems, are relatively unexplored. Characteristics commonly used to predict outcome lack prognostic value when it comes to long-term physical recovery. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the incidence of non-recovery in long-stay ICU-patients. In this single-centre study, retrospective data of adults with an ICU stay >48 hours who visited the specialized post-ICU clinic, and completed the Dutch RAND 36-item Short Form questionnaire at 3 and 12 months post-ICU, were retrieved from electronic patient records. In cases where physical functioning scores at 12 months were below reference values, patients were allocated to the physical non-recovery (NR) group. Significantly different baseline and (post-)ICU-characteristics were assessed for correlations with physical recovery at 12 months post-ICU. Of 250 patients, 110 (44%) fulfilled the criteria for the NR-group. Neither the severity of illness, type of admission, nor presence of sepsis did not differ between groups. However, NR-patients had a higher age, were more often female, and had a higher incidence of co-morbidities. Shorter LOS ICU, lower incidence of medical comorbidities, and better physical performance at 3 months were significantly correlated with 1-year physical recovery. Comorbidities and reduced physical functioning at 3 months were identified as independent risk-factors for long-term physical non-recovery. In conclusion, a substantial proportion of long-stay ICU-patients who visited the standard care post-ICU clinic did not fulfil the criteria for full physical recovery at 12 months post-ICU. Commonly used ICU-characteristics, such as severity of illness, do not have sufficient prognostic value when it comes to long-term recovery of health-related quality of life.

We tested health criteria cutoff points from physical fitness variables proposed by the Fitnessgram program for detecting metabolic syndrome ( MetS) in a representative sample of 1,035 Brazilian adolescents (565 girls and 470 boys) aged 12-20 years. We studied five fitness tests: (a) back-saver sit and reach, (b) trunk lift, (c) curl-up, (d) push-up, and (e) progressive aerobic cardiovascular endurance run ( PACER), and we defined MetS through the criteria of the International Diabetes Federation. We described the predictive performance of each fitness test in terms of sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve ( AUC) estimates of the receiver operating characteristic method. The AUCs for four tests ( back-saver sit and reach, trunk lift, curl-up, and push-up) revealed low accuracy for identifying MetS in both sexes (0.50 ≥ AUC ≤ 0.60), but AUCs for the PACER test demonstrated good accuracy values between 0.72 (0.68–0.76) and 0.83 (0.78–0.89). Thus, cutoff points proposed in the Fitnessgram program for the PACER test offer an effective means of screening adolescents at higher cardiometabolic risk, which, for the age-group used in this study, should be from 40.3-44.3 ml/kg/min for boys and 38.6-40.1 ml/kg/min for girls.

The present study aimed to clarify the difference in physical activity (PA) due to sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults with long-term care insurance (LTCI). This was a cross-sectional study that investigated data of 97 consecutive community-dwelling older Japanese adults with LTCI who underwent rehabilitation at one day care center in Japan from November 2018 to May 2019. Sarcopenia was determined according to criteria of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. Unpaired t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, chi-square test and analysis of covariance were used to compare participant characteristics and clinical parameters between the older adults with and without sarcopenia. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was constructed to determine the cut-off value of PA for sarcopenia. The sarcopenia group (n = 20) had significantly lower body mass index (BMI), skeletal muscle mass index, gait speed, and PA than those in the no sarcopenia group (n = 28) (p < 0.05). After adjustment for BMI and sex, the sarcopenia group showed significantly lower PA than the no sarcopenia group. Findings showed that the cut-off value of PA indicating sarcopenia by ROC curve analysis was 1494.4 steps/day (p < 0.05); this value may aid in identifying sarcopenia in older adults with LTCI.

This thesis discusses the impact of female attractiveness on the female character which is related to the way Spy sees attractive women and what the impacts to them are. There are criteria for female attractiveness that are displayed by the film such as physical attributes and traits. In order to show the criteria of attractive women and the responses that they get, I use stereotyping theory. Women who are physically attractive get better treatment, but in order to get that, they have to dress with a certain style that men favor. For the women who are considered as unattractive, they will be ignored by men. In conclusion, I find out that the appearance and the attitude of the female character still depend on men’s view. Women can also be seen as attractive from their characteristics. Attractiveness also has huge influences on the way women get treated by men.

Background: Frailty is a multidimensional and dynamic state that has adverse physical, psychological, and social outcomes. The Tilburg Frailty Indicator (TFI) has the most robust evidence of reliability and validity for assessing frailty. However, the characteristics of TFI have not been investigated in detail. This study aimed to set a cutoff score for frailty and evaluate frailty-associated factors in community-dwelling older adults.Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed frailty according to both the TFI and Fried criteria. The Geriatric Depression Scale, basic and instrumental activities of daily living, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Anxiety subscale were also implemented.Results: This study included 166 older adults. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.735 (95% confidence interval, 0.648–0.823). A TFI cutoff point of 8, showed a sensitivity of 60% and specificity of 72.5% for the prediction of frailty (p<0.05). Frailty according to the TFI was more associated with the physical and psychological parameters, while frailty according to the Fried score was more closely related to the physical parameters (p<0.05).Conclusion: The results of this study suggested an optimal TFI cutoff score of 8 as a frailty instrument in community-dwelling older adults. Additionally, the TFI included physical, psychological, and social aspects, thereby providing a multidimensional evaluation of frailty.

Considering the diversity of clay raw materials, we can distinguish their numerous varieties using genesis and retention conditions, as well as specific physical, chemical, and thermal properties as criteria of division. Three samples of fine-grained clay materials, collected randomly from the Turów lignite mine tailing piles, were subjected to testing for their grain and chemical composition and specific surface area. The results show that the tested materials are non-porous adsorbents. Additionally, a thermal analysis was carried out with a simultaneous quadrupole mass spectrometry (QMS). In the tested samples, the weight loss associated with the release of water from the clay was observed in two temperature ranges: from 40 to 240 °C (physically bound water) and from 330 to 620 °C (structured water). The weight loss associated with the decomposition of organic matter was registered in the temperature range of 300 to 560 °C. The results of the conducted tests might provide the basis for further analysis of the potential use of these materials as heat stores, components of insulators, or additives of ceramic products.

Cement comprises major proportion in any construction materials and the right selection of cement is equally important for construction companies. The objective of this research is to find the criteria used by the construction companies in cement selection and using the required criteria adopt TOPSIS (Technique of Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) as Multi Criteria Decision Making method for the selection of optimal cement brand among various cement brands for the construction projects in Kathmandu. Another objective is to find the physical characteristics of the selected cement brands in laboratory. For the methodology, non-random sampling was adopted. Data were collected by questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, KII and Lab test. For physical characteristics comparison of cement brands, samples were collected from hardware shop and lab test were conducted in private lab. For the factors in cement selection quality, ex-factory rate, credit-terms, delivery-time, relationship, self-clinker production, production-capacity, technology and financial-conditions were identified and ranked in relevant order. Six factors were chosen for TOPSIS for the six cement brands for Kathmandu valley. From TOPSIS, it was foundSarbottam cement is best suited for projects in Kathmandu valley in terms of physical strength Hongshi had the highest 3 and 7 days of compressive strength where as Sarbottam had highest 28 days strength. Maruti cement had longest setting time whereas United cement had shortest setting time. 28 days strength of all the cement were as per the NS 49whereas except for Maruti and Shivam, all the brands had strength as per IS 8112 criteria.

This study explored relationships among children’s age, individual differences, and sources of physical competence information. Children (N = 183) completed measures of competitive trait anxiety (CTA), perceived physical competence (PC), general self-esteem (SE), and sources of competence information in the sport domain. A cluster analysis revealed four distinct profiles of children. In Cluster 1, children were younger, scored relatively higher in CTA and lower in PC, and indicated strongest preference for pregame anxiety as a source of information. Cluster 2 was characterized by children with lower PC and SE scores who placed lower importance on parental evaluation and pre­ game anxiety sources. In Cluster 3, children scored higher on PC and SE, moderately lower on CTA, and preferred self-referenced and parental evaluation criteria. In Cluster 4, children were older, higher in CTA, lower in PC and SE, and indicated strongest preference for social comparison/evaluation criteria. The criteria children use to evaluate their physical competence are strongly associated with age and psychological characteristics.

Brassica oleracea is an important crop species that at early growth stages may exhibit failure of the apical growing point, an abnormality called “blindness”. The occurrence of blindness is promoted by exposure to low temperatures during imbibition and germination, but the causes of sensitivity to such conditions are unknown. We combined three analytical seed technology instruments to explore seed physical properties that are highly correlated with quality parameters and might be used directly for grading or sorting seed lots into subpopulations varying in potential susceptibility to blindness. For image analysis, we used the VideometerLab instrument, which can scan 19 wavelengths from ultraviolet to infrared and utilize that information in any combination to potentially identify unique criteria related to seed quality. The iXeed CF Analyzer was utilized to obtain chlorophyll fluorescence values for individual seeds. Chlorophyll contents of many seeds can be used as an indicator of seed maturity, a major contributor to seed quality. Finally, oxygen consumption measurements of individual seeds as obtained with the Q2 instrument are highly correlated with their performance under a wide variety of conditions. Six Brassica seed lots differed in their susceptibility to induction of blindness or loss of viability due to 48 h hydrated incubation at 1.5 ∘C. Analysis of physical and respiratory parameters identified some measurements that were highly correlated with the occurrence of blindness. Higher chlorophyll content, as detected by the CF-Mobile and certain wavelengths in the Videometer, was associated with greater occurrence of blindness or death following the induction treatment, suggesting that more immature seeds may be susceptible to blindness. Further research is required, but methods to detect and sort such seeds based on physical characteristics appear to be feasible.
