“Kao Gong Ji” is a major work of handicraft technology in early ancient China, which recorded in detail the handicraft methods and craft information of the pre-Qin era in China, summarized the industrial production technology and construction system at that time, and embodied the advanced social ideological concepts at that time. It plays an important role in studying the history of science and technology, crafts, and culture in China. The technical concept of “Heaven has time, earth has gas, material has beauty, and work has skill, and when these four are combined, then it can be made into a good one” still provides the basic method for modern craft production. Through digital visualization technology, we can digitally reproduce the craft technology and artistic expressions recorded in the Book of Examination and Records of Work, and understand the principles and characteristics of ancient craft technology more deeply. This can not only provide inspiration and reference for modern craft innovation but also help modern craftsmen better master traditional craft skills and promote the integration and development of traditional crafts with modern technology. The use of this technology is not only the inheritance and promotion of traditional culture but also a powerful impetus to the development of modern crafts.

Another source has been the schools of domestic sciences in which craft research has been a recognized field. In Sweden and Norway, craft research has developed strongly in architectural conservation and cultural heritage with a focus on traditional craftsmanship and the performative elements of intangible cultural heritage. This article offers an overview of the developments and progress of the field of craft sciences in these countries, inluding its methodological approaches, with a focus on Ph.D theses. Through mapping recurrent methodological approaches, the following categories were derived: craft reconstruction, craft interpretations, craft elicitation, craft amplification and craft socialization. The aim of the classification, and the model derived from it, is to help researchers and students understand better how different types of knowledge relate to different research methods and apply them within their own research. The puropse of the research is to create a common infrastructure for research and education in order to connect and strengthen the dispersed academic communities of craft research and to establish craft science as a formally recognized discipline within the academic system.
The authors of the article have granted permission to have the original research article published in Craft Research Journal 11 (2), CC-BY-NC-ND to be translated from English and published in Estonian. This article concerns knowledge transfer within traditional crafts. Setting out from documented encounters with craftspeople, enterprises and craft communities, the objective is to reveal different notions of traditional craftsmanship and how ways of thinking about crafts affect knowledge transfer. The article focuses on a few general questions derived from surveys and interviews. What is the nature of craftsmanship? What constitutes a tradition? How can this knowledge be documented and passed on in a meaningful way? Particular interest is placed on relations between amateur communities and professional trades, between crafts and the academic knowledge system, and furthermore between crafts and heritage conservation.Mass production and mass consumption have greatly challenged traditional craftsmanship. Trade structures for crafts have been dissolved, and enterprises have been decimated. Still, in this dismal transformation, small craft-based enterprises constitute a large part of the economy. The diagnosis in the Swedish context, underpinned by research, is that craft-based enterprises lose family traditions, and that small or micro-companies resist investing in new apprentices, outside the altruistic structure of family bonds, due to the costs and risks involved in training. Small craft-based enterprises demand already trained and skilled craftspeople. However, such a workforce is difficult to find on the labour market as curriculums of formal vocational education focus mainly on the qualifications demanded by industry. Efforts by public authorities and trade organisations to enhance apprentice training do not sufficiently succeed in attracting the younger generation. Despite high youth unemployment, many of the offered apprenticeships go unfilled.The context of research is provided by the Swedish Craft Laboratory, which is a socially committed craft research centre at the University of Gothenburg. It was established in 2010 in cooperation with heritage organisations, craft enterprises and trade organisations to empower craftspeople in the complex processes of production. The general agenda of the Craft Laboratory is to bring research into practice and to involve craftspeople in processes of enquiry. In 2010 and 2011, the Craft Laboratory and National Property Board conducted a study into the state of traditional crafts. The study comprised a quantitative survey focused on the demand for competence and forms of education and training. Furthermore, 14 dialogue seminars were held in different parts of the country to discuss the state of the art, urgent needs and desires with craftengaged people.The results indicate extensive needs, but a clear and recurrent demand from craftspeople, enterprises and communities is action to support knowledge transfer in fields where craftsmanship has lost influence in design and planning. Traditional crafts involve attitudes and moral frameworks that have a negative impact on recruitment and obstruct development in sustaining crafts in contemporary society. All traditions are not completely good. Learning a traditional craft comes with a commitment, placing a responsibility on the master, the business and the culture. The relationship is intimate, enduring and asymmetrical, where the apprentice has to put trust in and submit to the master’s plan, as there are no formal documents to rely on. Many craft communities are weak and practitioners feel lonely in their efforts to maintain skills and develop their practice. There is no significant guild spirit; on the contrary, many craftspeople and companies demand networks and forums for sharing experiences with others. The main competition consists not of other craft companies but of alternative industrial products and methods. Many craftspeople experience a gap between the scope of their competence (what they possess the knowledge and skills to do) and the scope of their practice (what they are expected and commissioned to do). To bridge this gap, the craftspeople need to add interactive tools to their toolbox and craft new skills to interact and communicate.The conclusion is that craftspeople have to make their tradition transparent and to place on a communication level their ways of anchoring judgments and actions in the past. As traditional craft fields migrate to amateur communities, academies and the field of heritage conservation, craft practitioners have to become involved in the negotiation processes of why and for whom things are produced and preserved, and to consider the different values of traditional crafts for different groups of people. Adhocism, academisation and heritagisation may sustain traditional crafts in contemporary society.

Получить полноценную характеристику производственной культуры Древней Руси невозможно без изучения роли сельского ремесла. Многофакторный анализ археометаллографических данных позволил сделать вывод о том, что сельское ремесленное производство представляло гораздо более сложное явление, чем виделось ранее. Древнерусское село не только служило поставщиком сырья в городские ремесленные центры и производило простую в технологическом отношении продукцию, но и воспринимало технологические инновации. Сельские мастера сами могли производить качественные кузнечные изделия и снабжали ими ближайшую округу. It is not possible to obtain full characteristics of the Medieval Russia production culture without examining the role of rural crafts. Multivariate analysis of archaeometallographic data made it possible to conclude that rural crafts were a much more sophisticated phenomenon than previously thought. A village in Medieval Russia not only supplied raw materials to craft centers and manufactured technologically simple products but also adopted technological innovations. Rural craftsmen were able to produce high-quality blacksmith products and supplied them to the nearby population.

Peminat kerajinan dan pengrajin seni ukir masih banyak yang belum memahami kriteria kayu sesuai kebutuhan yang diinginkan. Ketidakpahaman dalam pemilihan kayu yang tepat sangat mempengaruhi kualitas dan kepuasan peminat kerajinan. Jenis kerajinan ukir sendiri dapat dibedakan menjadi 2 yaitu untuk indoor dan outdoor. Kerajinan ukir indoor adalah kerajinan yang diletakkan di dalam ruangan seperti ruang tamu, ruang keluarga, atau di dalam ruangan lainya sedangkan untuk kerajinan outdoor adalah kerajinan ukir yang biasa diletakan di luar ruangan seperti gazebo, joglo, taman, di pantai, teras bagian luar dan lainya. Untuk membantu pengrajin kayu dalam pemilihan kayu untuk kerajinan ukir yang diinginkan maka di butuhkan sebuah sistem atau perhitungan matematis diharapkan memudahkan pengrajin dalam menentukan kayu sesuai kebutuhan peminat kerajinan dan memberi kemudahan dan kepuasan pada peminat kerajinan itu sendiri. Untuk itu, penelitian ini menggunakan metode Technique For Order Preference By Similarity To Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). Tahapan yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisa dan pengumpulan data, penerapan metode, implementasi, dan pengujian. Menentukan kriteria seperti jenis kayu, sifat fisik kayu, kekuatan kayu, harga, berapa lama kayu bertahan, dan juga beberapa alternatif. Dalam penelitian ini, menghasilkan beberapa hasil rekomendasi kayu yang paling mendekati sesuai keinginan peminat kerajinanThere are still many craft enthusiasts and carving craftsmen who do not understand the criteria for wood according to the desired needs. Misunderstanding In choosing the right wood, it can affect the quality and satisfaction of craft enthusiasts. Types of carving crafts themselves can be divided into 2, namely for indoor and outdoor. Indoor carving crafts are crafts that are placed in rooms such as living rooms, family rooms, or in other rooms while outdoor crafts are carving crafts that are usually placed outside such as gazebos, joglos, gardens, on the beach, outside terraces and others. To help craft enthusiasts and wood craftsmen in selecting wood for the desired carving craft, a mathematical system or calculation is needed, which can make it easier for craftsmen to determine wood according to the needs of craft enthusiasts and provide convenience and satisfaction to the craft enthusiasts themselves. This research uses a method Technique For Order Preference By Similarity To Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The stages in this research are data analysis and collection, method application, implementation, and testing. Determine criteria such as wood type, physical properties of wood, wood strength, price, how long the wood lasts, and also several alternatives. In this study, produced several recommendations for wood that are closest to the wishes of craft enthusiasts.

This article seeks to develop a framework model for a business intelligence system mapping West Java's exports of creative crafts. The fundamental issue is that the craft industry's exports are underperforming due to a lack of responsiveness in capturing export opportunities. In addition, the lack of a business intelligence system in the craft industry to evaluate export mapping on the global market emphasizes the importance of this research. This body of literature employs the research methods of data gathering and consolidation, determining information needs, and developing a framework for business intelligence. This study investigates primary data regarding the export of handicrafts from West Java, including exporter data, export commodity data (HS code), export trade transactions, export destination country data, and the overall export value and volume. The proposed model is a framework for mapping the export of craft creative industries and the stages of business intelligence (BI) deployment. Based on the results and discussion, the proposed BI framework can serve as a basis for developing a business intelligence system to evaluate the export mapping of handcraft products in West Java.

The household is the most basic and flexible component of human social organization. It is through the household that we can understand the Chaco phenomenon from the point of view of agriculture and craft production. Households strive for autonomy and self-sufficiency and they spread themselves thin to meet basic subsistence requirements. As a result, scheduling of agricultural and craft activities is critical to the success of the household. Craft technologies must be complementary with agricultural activities; for example, pottery may be made during the heat of the day when agricultural tasks are at a lull. The concept of intersecting technologies suggests that technical knowledge, resources, and labor may be shared among crafts and other activities. Chacoan households probably specialized in the production of different crafts including pottery, jewelry, basketry, and other woven goods. Within the context of the Chaco regional system the mobilization of labor would have been through obligatory work assignments that complemented domestic autonomy in agricultural production and, as a result, would have been organized seasonally.

The control system is one of the important components of the hydrofoil craft. By adjusting the navigation attitude of the craft, the hydrofoil craft can navigate stably and safely in the turbulent environment. Aiming at the problem that existing control algorithms have poor stability in the longitudinal motion control of hydrofoil craft, the longitudinal motion reduction is limited, and there are excessive requirements for accurate disturbance wave data. Based on the fully submerged hydrofoil craft model, this article proposes a joint control method LQRY-SMC combining linear-quadratic optimal control with output regulation (LQRY) and sliding-mode control (SMC), and adds genetic algorithm to optimize the weighting matrix parameters, get better control-feedback gain, improve the global optimal-control stability, thus improving the comfort of the crew, and prevent the attack of the hull, deck wetness and damage to instruments. The simulation results show that compared with the existing methods, the heave displacement and pitch angle obtained by LQRY-SMC under the turbulent flow of different significant wave heights are reduced by about 50%, and the influence of longitudinal motion on hydrofoil crafts is avoided to a large extent, which proves the effectiveness and superiority of the method proposed.

It is scarce to find a village where most of its citizens are engaged in traditional wayang crafts, especially if the most residents are Muslims. Moreover, the number of puppets needed to fulfill shadow puppet shows is limited throughout the world. However, the fact shows that Butuh Hamlet has a majority of residents who work as wayang artisans and still exist today, a model for the continuation of traditional arts in facing tough challenges and is an example of the sustainability of traditional arts in facing tough challenges, both externally and internally. This sustainability can be seen in the number of residents who still pursuing the crafting profession, which craft are still the main source of income for residents. Butuh Hamlet has received the title of Kampung Berseri (a beautiful and clean village). Apart from that, they also continue to work on strengthening the wayang craft with the Among System: caring for, fostering, and sharpening each other in developing the wayang craft. The sustainability of wayang as a means of livelihood and a medium for preaching (da'wah) has made the lives of artisans better.

Tribal Art and Craft, the pluralism of our nation that results from its diverse cultures. Every region possesses a unique artistic aesthetic. Most regions feature tribal arts and crafts in rural and indigenous areas. Chattisgarh is distinguished among the states due to its distinct folk and tribal cultures. Folk and tribal art and craft are manifestations of the pastoral way of life, religious convictions, and unpretentiousness of the people. Baster as a region of Chhattisgarh is characterized by its diverse communities, cultures, and artistic expressions. An area inhabited by numerous tribes that is remote from the progression of human civilization. Tribal lifestyle, caste system, and social rituals are all distinguishing characteristics that set these communities apart from others. Dhokraas an indigenous art form originated as part of the tribal life, and culture and uniquely reflects their community, rituals, and beliefs. The purpose of this paper is to present an overview on original form of craft, changes over time, and how the craft is being used in the design. The craft originated as part of the life of the tribal culture and reflects their community, rituals, and beliefs, and maintains a unique character. Over time the craft had gone through changes because of various influencing factors e.g., new requirements within their community, source of livelihood, artists and designers became interested in the craft, reach to the market, and support received from the Govt. The changes in the craft can be seen from various perspectives, from form, size, material, subject matter, and technique. The intention is to highlight progressive visual imagery, product design, and impact on the art form.

Our Indian army forces like Indian army, Indian navy will have greater use of this project. For example coming to our local areas just recently happened these situation is in Hyderabad we got floods so many people lose their houses, property.so many people were injuired. There is no such reliable system to rescue there. In that one senior citizen was died due to the helpless situation these type of situation makes so hurting to us. In that cases these type of devices may save their lives. In this system we have Bluetooth, Arduino UNO, propellers, two navigation motors which can give right and forward moving directions. Considering the price, simple implementations this project proses a less cost compare to fire brigade. With the help of Bluetooth in distance we can operate the system. With driving manually we can operate. Due to this one person can be saved. Instead of a driver one extra person can save. By using Bluetooth Arduino control app we can send command to the Arduino. When we give command we can operate, navigate the device with the help of down propeller air fills in cushion with the help of back propeller it will move towards forward direction with this we can control the device navigation for this we have 12volt 3.5Amps Battery power supply. Amplified current version battery to drive the motors.

The craft design industry refers to tangible and intangible industries and contents that create economic added value by embodying cultural and artistic elements. It has been developed based on the traditional culture of the country and region. This study aims to suggest ways to create cultural values and revitalize local communities by utilizing these craft design activities. Currently, local communities have undergone rapid industrialization and urbanization due to rapid economic development and rapid growth, and these are expressed as urban environmental problems such as changes in social structure, reduction of exchange, and absence of community activities. In particular, after COVID-19, the concept of community has declined, and life centered on social relations is changing. Therefore, this study analyzes prior research on the operating system of the Crafts Center, which operates craft design programs, and presents a systematic activation plan focusing on the support direction and operation program. This is significant in contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of isolated or unstable local members while playing a role in raising awareness of the cultural industry through craft design and expanding the network of local communities.

In this case, MSMEs players still have problems with the development of business and sales strategies. Through the use of digital marketing, it is hoped that it will be able to help Ecoprint Craft MSMEs actors, as one of the promotional media for developing a business. The method used in this research is to use a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. As well as using the mentoring method by carrying out several stages, namely, observation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of each step taken. In the data collection stage on ecoprint craft MSMEs by using direct interviews with ecoprint craft MSMEs owners. Purpose This study aims to explore student craft teachers’ conceptions of sustainable craft. This is an important issue because the Finnish National Curriculum of Basic Education emphasises sustainability, especially in craft education, and teachers play a vital role in preparing pupils to meet the future challenges. Because the concept of sustainable craft is open-ended, there is a need to rethink pedagogy in craft education and higher education. Design/methodology/approach The data were collected in the form of essays from future craft teachers (N41) studying craft science in the Finnish higher education system. The essays concerned both general conceptions of sustainable craft and reflections on the student teachers’ craft practices. The data were analysed using grounded theory to gain a deep understanding of how student craft teachers conceptualise sustainable craft. The data were quantified and statistically assessed for dependencies between variables and transferability of results. Findings The study revealed that sustainable craft is conceptualised as a system and that student teachers approach sustainability from different orientations: practice, product, immaterial and holistic. Originality/value The emerging theory offers a new concrete tool for understanding the abstract concept of sustainability in higher education and suggests that sustainability can be addressed through tangible methods of craft. This theory proposes craft as a tool to conceptualise of sustainability for broader use in education for sustainability (ESD) and as a concrete tool for developing pedagogy for ESD.

Based on the description of the problems obtained, it is necessary to improve services in the information sector, designing a manual craft shop location search information system which will be developed into a technology-based digital information system using the Android Studio application and MySQL database. With the Location Service (LBS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods, with this system, users will be given location information and routes to their destination points easily to craft shop locations in Tasikmalaya City. All of these systems provide convenience in conveying information on searching for the location of craft shops in the city of Tasikmalaya.

This paper documents the traditional pottery art of the Sirajicommunity living in the inner Siraj Valley of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh. The uniqueness of the art is wheels are not used for making different pots as in other parts of the country. Paper also documents the procedures involved in making the pots and its current status. Study revealed that this traditional craft system will not survive if some urgent measures are not be taken in near future.

High speed craft has become prominent in maritime industry. Sophisticated electronic navigation equipment on bridge increases mental demands of high speed craft navigator. In the present study, mental workload of high speed craft navigators has been assessed in terms of bridge navigation operations. For this purpose, the pairwise comparison of the effects of Electronic Chart Display and Information System, Automatic Radar Plotting Aid, Automatic Identification System and autopilot on mental workload and Revised NASA Task Load Index questionnaires were carried out. High speed craft navigators sorted berthing, unberthing, navigation in coastal waters, navigation in restricted waters, and navigation on open sea operations according to their mental workload levels. In addition, they indicated the factors mostly affecting mental workload and the remarkable suggestions to keep the optimum level of mental workload. As result of these findings, considerations have been made for increasing the safety of high speed craft navigation.

Countries are at various stages of Covid-19 infection, and millions of children in multiple nations are currently affected by school closures due to the pandemic. The covid-19 pandemic has altered the way students are educated globally in a short period of time via the internet. Nowadays, the internet as a source of knowledge become a requirement for learners to acquire learning materials. Given the current situations and opportunities of COVID-19, students have difficulty learning the craft as drastic changes from the physical classroom to online as the classic style to learn needle felting craft is face-to-face. The problem arises when the student does not have the appropriate platform to learn needle felting craft. Needle felting is a craft that transforms wool into 3D shapes by using a special needle to tangle the wool together. Thus, GeeksFelting: Web-based learning for needle felting craft is a learning alternative platform for students. This web-based system provides an on-demand course from basic to expert. Students also can comment on the discussion section to connect with other students, sharing content and ideas as these features can bring the learners to engage although they are not physically present for learning. This system is developed based on an evolutionary prototyping model and the evaluation is conducted through questionnaire instruments, which involve 30 respondents. Evaluation is to test the usability of the system and the findings indicate that the system is efficient and satisfies users to use. The study offers several significant contributions with regard to the practical and the body of knowledge as the interested parties can understand the element of needle felting craft and a web-based application able to assist learners in learning needle felting craft.

This paper discusses the teaching of screenwriting and storytelling in terms of art and craft. It argues that since Romanticism established itself in the 19th century as the dominant Western view on art and culture, it has driven a wedge between people’s notions of art and craft, promoting the former and demoting the latter. This rift has impeded the teaching of screenwriting and storytelling in general. Following this, art historians and sociologists of art have suggested developing a “third system of art,” one that reintegrates the artist and the artisan, the art and craft-based values. This essay develops the basic tenets of a “technical approach” to the teaching of screenwriting. This technical approach sits in-between a Romantically biased “free-wheeling” approach and a mechanistic, “rule-based” approach. It is argued that a technical approach to screenwriting or storytelling could help materialize such a “third system of art” and benefit the practice, teaching, and study of screenwriting and storytelling.

This paper examines the value chain alliance and financing of sikki craft in Nepal. Among other crafts, sikki crafts is the potential handicrafts in rural community in Nepal. Sikki (dhakiya) is the natural fiber made from grass and which is being used among Tharu communities as a gift during marriage ceremony of daughter and high export potential in global market. Sikki is more labor-intensive based production, which involvement of women in whole process as well as 79% costs of raw materials have been used from local resources. Lack of awareness, inadequate design, lack of coordination, networking and structures, inadequate business knowledge and inefficient technology were major constraints hindering the growth of this sikki craft sub-sector in Nepal. It was estimated that a total of 630 enterprises can be developed during the five-year period. The study revealed that, a total of NPR 70.5 million will required to manage their enterprises that can create over 1260 jobs. The loan fund to be required from external financial institutions will be NPR 3.9 million, where Government of Nepal can play a catalytic role to help these entrepreneurs obtain such loans from the formal sources through brokerage system charging fees. The return of investment of this product was 66% and benefit-cost ratio was 1.7. From the points of view of value chain financing of sikki craft, the business seems viable to the rural women in Terai’ community of Nepal from employment generation and promotion of Nepalese handicraft in global niche markets.

Sustainable mobility is one of the most challenging issues for passenger transport inside environmental protected areas and ecologically fragile environments. To reduce the pollutant emissions, the adoption of electric or hybrid-electric solutions for crafts propulsion is a suitable option for green navigation. However, the operation in restricted basin leads also to specific critical issues for the vessel sailing, as dealing with shallow or restricted waters and transit under low air-gap bridges. The combination of these constraints with the adoption of a hybrid-electric propulsion system increases the design difficulties also for a small craft, requiring the use of advanced simulation models to assess the vessel performances. This work presents a simulation model for a small passenger craft that will operate in the Grado Lagoon. The model combines the hydrodynamic issues of manoeuvring and propulsion in restricted water with the simulation of the electric loads and capacity of the energy storage system installed onboard. The simulations performed with the developed simulation system are in accordance with data measured during trials on a prototype of the vessel. The developed model is a powerful tool for designers in order to rapidly assess the green capabilities of new projects since the early design stages.

In the present study, researchers performed a quantitative assessment of trunk postures using an inertial measurement unit (IMU)-based kinematic measurement system while workers lifted kegs at a craft brewery. Results of this field-based study indicated that during keg handling, craft brewery workers exhibited awkward and non-neutral trunk postures. Based on the results of the posture data, design recommendations were identified to reduce the hazardous exposure for musculoskeletal disorders among craft brewery workers.

Ponadto badanie dotyczy ochrony rzemiosła w oparciu o rozporządzenie 2023/2411 w sprawie ochrony oznaczeń geograficznych produktów rzemieślniczych i przemysłowych. Przeanalizowano podstawy ochrony, jej strukturę oraz przedstawiono przykłady produktów kwalifikujących się do ochrony. Studium porównawcze przyczynia się do lepszego zrozumienia różnych podejść i ram prawnych stosowanych w Europie i Japonii w celu ochrony ich bogatego dziedzictwa rzemieślniczego. Poprzez zestawienie europejskiego rozporządzenia i japońskiego systemu „Living National Treasures” opartego na ochronie UNESCO artykuł ma na celu wyciągnięcie wniosków na temat najlepszych praktyk i potencjalnych obszarów wymagających poprawy w zakresie ochrony tradycyjnego rzemiosła w skali globalnej. The article undertakes a comparative analysis of the protection of craft heritage in Europe and Japan, focusing on the “Living Human Treasures” program within the framework of UNESCO Guidelines for the Establishment of National “Living Human Treasures.” Additionally, the study addresses the protection of crafts based on Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 concerning the protection of geographical indications for craft and industrial products, narrowing its scope to the protection of craftsmanship. It analyzes the foundations of protection, its structure, and presents examples of products qualifying for protection. The comparative study contributes to a nuanced understanding of the diverse approaches and legal frameworks employed by Europe and Japan in safeguarding their rich craft heritages. By juxtaposing the European Regulation and the Japanese “Living National Treasures” system based on UNESCO protection, the article aims to draw insights into best practices and potential areas for improvement in the protection of traditional crafts on a global scale.

In this paper, I analyse the educational and teaching systems developed for boys joining Vilnius craft workshops. The boys worked (participating in production) and prepared themselves for their future profession. In my paper, I present the educational and teaching paths leading to an apprentice assuming the status of a fellow. It is interesting how the students operated in the structures of the guild workshops and what skills they possessed. The research does not encompass the sons of master craftsmen and out-of-guild craftsmen who would come to Vilnius and attempt to join the craft guilds. These issues require a separate analysis. It was not my intention to provide a holistic study of the issue; rather, I revised and supplemented Józef Morzy’s research in which he partly analysed craft guilds in Vilnius with respect to the essential work skills. In my analysis, I made use of the statutes of the craft guilds operating in Vilnius, one of the biggest cities in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, in the early modern period.

Socio-cultural aspects of craft, along with aesthetic and creativity, are expressed in the products of craft practices. Craft activities of weaving may be deeply imbued with unique cultural values and expressive of cultural identities. The paper concerns how traditional Malay craft is abstracted onto a real-life project which has to deal with the problem of modularity and buildability. The focus is on the food covers or better known as tudung saji pattern, woven using a specific technique called triaxial or hexagonal weave, where the strands are plaited in three directions. Understanding and making explicit, formalizing and computing the craft patterns provide new insights into its cultural dynamics as well as creative and generative possibilities. The paper summarizes the design process from craft to meaning and philosophy to variations of modern abstraction. The concepts were integrated into an innovative cladding design of a passive cooling system. The design and development process of water-wall design includes the production of digital three-dimensional model. The efforts to merge craft sensibilities and practices with new making technologies and computational strategies have uncovered several interesting viewpoints. The implication of the study is to inculcate the symbolic application of cultural values in craft goods towards design. Future work towards sustainability in craft is part of revival. Traditional Malay craft need abstraction and reinvention in a contemporary way, to create an expressive connection and foster cultural identity within time and space.

Bubbles and craft parameters in vacuum casting are the key factors to the quality of products. How to eliminate bubbles and set optimal parameters are the key technical problems to the automation development of vacuum casting. This paper advances a new vacuum casting automatic control system based on configuration software. Dynamic data exchange（DDE） among control module, detection module and execution module is realized based on the strong capability of communication and human-machine interface in configuration software. The realization of this control system can effectively eliminate bubbles and provide corresponding optimal craft parameters automatically and intelligently. In a word, the efficiency and quality of the products can be improved and the dependency of experience parameters can be reduced in vacuum casting.

In 1965, Frederick (Fritz) Maytag III began a decades-long revitalization of Anchor Brewing Company in San Francisco, California. This was an unexpected venture from an unlikely brewer; for generations, Maytag's family had run the Maytag Washing Machine Company in Iowa and he had no training in brewing. Yet Maytag's career at Anchor initiated a phenomenal wave of growth in the American brewing industry that came to be known as the microbrewing—now “craft beer”—revolution. To understand Maytag's path, this article draws on original oral histories and artifacts that Maytag donated to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History via the American Brewing History Initiative, a project to document the history of brewing in the United States. The objects and reflections that Maytag shared with the museum revealed a surprising link between the birth of microbrewing and the strategies and culture of mass manufacturing. Even if the hallmarks of microbrewing—a small-scale, artisan approach to making beer—began as a backlash against the mass-produced system of large breweries, they relied on Maytag's early, intimate connections to the assembly-line world of the Maytag Company and the alchemy of intellectual curiosity, socioeconomic privilege, and risk tolerance with which his history equipped him.

В статье определено, что эффективность судна на подводных крыльях раскрывается через категорию цели и объективно выражается степенью достижения цели с учетом затрат ресурсов, а критерий эффективности является мерой достижения цели системы, который определяется на множестве показателей качества его функционирования и показателей безопасности. Показано, что в качестве математической модели необходимо использовать нелинейную модель СПК с произвольной крыльевой схемой и расчетным определением гидродинамических характеристик крыльевых устройств произвольной геометрии, движущихся вблизи раздела двух сред, а модель внешних возмущающих и управляющих воздействий необходимо задавать во временной области. Определено, что судно на подводных крыльях, как сложная техническая система, должно характеризоваться выражением, включающим множество состояний системы, входных и выходных воздействий, характеризующихся совокупностью элементов, входящих в него. Обосновано, что должны быть определены на выходе модели множество значений параметров движения судна на подводных крыльях и аргументов гидродинамических сил и моментов в текущий момент времени, множество показателей мореходности, показатели ходкости, обитаемости, управляемости, динамической устойчивости, показатели для оценки прочности элементов несущего комплекса и безопасности. Одним из основополагающих системных методологических принципов является то, что оценка эффективности всех подсистем, составляющих рассматриваемую систему – судно на подводных крыльях – требует установления динамической взаимосвязи между свойствами подсистемы, характеризующими ее качества, условиями и целью функционирования, определяемыми вышестоящей системой. The article determines that the efficiency of a hydrofoil vessel is revealed through the category of the goal and is objectively expressed by the degree of achievement of the goal, taking into account the cost of resources, and the efficiency criterion is a measure of achieving the goal of the system, which is determined on the basis of a set of quality indicators of its functioning and safety indicators. It is shown that, as a mathematical model, it is necessary to use a nonlinear model of an SPC with an arbitrary wing pattern and a calculated determination of the hydrodynamic characteristics of wing devices of arbitrary geometry moving near the interface of two media, and the model of external disturbing and control actions must be set in the time domain. It is determined that a hydrofoil vessel, as a complex technical system, must be characterized by an expression that includes a set of system states, input and output actions, characterized by a set of elements included in it. It has been substantiated that at the output of the model, a set of of the parameters of the movement of a vessel on hydrofoils and arguments of hydrodynamic forces and moments at the current moment of time, a set of seaworthiness indicators, indicators of speed, habitability, controllability, dynamic stability, indicators for assessing the strength of security. One of the fundamental systemic methodological principles is that the assessment of the effectiveness of all subsystems that make up the system under consideration - a hydrofoil vessel - requires the establishment of a dynamic relationship between the properties of the subsystem that characterize its qualities, conditions and the purpose of functioning determined by the higher system.

This paper presented Low investment and low running cost Two-phase Anaerobic Baffle Treatment Craft for living wastewater treatment, it designed Two-phase anaerobic reactor and carried out a successful launch and Experiment research. The results are as follows: 1. The experiment uses the start method that by shortening HRT to raise the load, after 53 days completes experiment start.2. By the analysis of HRT to the system effect, suggest that the best HRT is 6 h when the craft processes sewage. 3. The system clean rates of the total nitrogen and total phosphoric are respectively 21.05% and 20.1%.4. The temperature has an influence on clean effect of the system, when the temperature descends from 20 °C to 10 °C, system clean rate of average COD descends from 87.1% to 52.4%. 5. Reactor VFA and PH measurement results express that the craft could circulate stably and efficiently.

This paper surveys the recent advances in dynamic positioning (DP) control for marine crafts. DP of marine crafts means that a craft can maintain a fixed position and heading, or move along a predetermined trajectory slowly without the anchoring system, using only its own thruster system to counteract ocean disturbances. The survey is by no means exhaustive but provides a survey of some of the major technological advancements in DP controller design over the years of research and development. Firstly, the model of marine crafts and some difficult problems in DP control are introduced including the impact of multiple source disturbance, unavailable velocity measurement information, resource conservation and performance optimization, destabilizing impact of faults and network security and compound multi-constraint restrictions. Then, the DP control schemes in recent years are summarized and classified in detail. Finally, some theoretical and technical problems are proposed, including online data-driven model-free control, man–machine combination intelligent control and composite hierarchical anti-disturbance control to guide future investigations.

The “Book of Crafts” of Paris (Livre des métiers) demonstrates the exceptional variety of highly specialized crafts, the multiplicity of social and professional traditions formed by the 13th century, and the variability of approaches to resolving complex issues of organizing the activities of artisans and merchants in a medieval metropolis. The author singles out the set of information of the “Book of Crafts” about apprentices and vocational training, which was exceptional in terms of volume and content; studies the general quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the set on apprenticeship in the Parisian statutes. The training in the 13th century almost completely included the next stage of professionalization like gaining experience, and the end of apprenticeshipdid not end with a professional test, which sometimes arose when an apprentice became a teacherhimself. The author emphasizes the fundamental value of apprenticeshipin the system of admission to the profession and the exceptional importance of the attitude towards vocational training reflected in the Parisian registers for the history of the medieval craft.

Experimental techniques are described in detail for evaluating the system and the unit performances of waterjet propulsion systems in a water tunnel. The measured performances of pump and propulsion of the model systems are in reasonable agreement with the field experiment with prototype craft. Measurements are also made for the losses in the intake and the nozzle. The optimization study of the water jet systems is conducted by simulating the change of the nozzle outlet diameter with the variable nozzle arrangement. It is suggested that the nozzle outlet diameter should be decreased as the craft velocity increases to obtain an optimum propulsive efficiency in a wide range of craft velocity.
