Abstract Context X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is an inherited skeletal disorder that can lead to lifelong deleterious musculoskeletal and functional consequences. Although often perceived as a childhood condition, children and adults both experience the negative effects of XLH. Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) benefit from effective health care transition (HCT) preparation to support the transfer from pediatric- to adult-focused care. Whereas transition timelines, milestones, and educational tools exist for some chronic conditions, they do not meet the unique needs of patients with XLH. Evidence Acquisition To produce the first expert recommendations on HCT preparation for AYAs with XLH developed by clinical care investigators and transition experts, a formal literature search was conducted and discussed in an advisory board meeting in July 2020. A modified Delphi method was used to refine expert opinion and facilitate a consensus position. Evidence Synthesis We identified the need for psychosocial and access-related resources for disease education, genetic counseling, family planning, and AYA emancipation from caregiver-directed care. Additionally, we recognized that it is necessary to facilitate communication with patients through channels familiar and accessible to AYAs and teach patients to advocate for their health care/access to specialists. Conclusion Clear HCT preparation guidelines and treatment-related goals are defined. Individualized timelines and practical strategies for HCT preparation are proposed to optimize health outcomes resulting from continuous clinical care throughout the patient lifecycle. We provide an expert consensus statement describing a tailored HCT preparation program specifically for AYAs with XLH to aid in the effective transfer from pediatric- to adult-focused health care.

The paper also discusses a project to develop a catalog of relevant HSI software tools and to map these tools to the acquisition process and systems engineering lifecycle at the Department of Homeland Security.

Purpose This study aims to explore how to identify and manage opportunities successfully in a large multi-organizational infrastructure project. Large projects struggle with exploiting and capturing opportunities because of the lack of practices that support active and continuous opportunity management over the project lifecycle in inter-organizational project networks. Design/methodology/approach This study provides empirical evidence of a successful opportunity management process based on an investigation of an infrastructure alliance project. The adopted research approach is an inductive case study. Findings By analyzing an infrastructure alliance project, this paper identifies key activities of opportunity management and furthermore, discusses the enablers of active and continuous opportunity management. Practical implications This study supports practitioners by providing knowledge about the possibilities and activities that could be deployed during the project lifecycle to improve opportunity management process and about the enablers – factors that facilitate alliance partners’ capabilities to manage opportunities. Originality/value There is limited empirical research on the practices of opportunity management that support continuous, active opportunity management in inter-organizational project contexts, although multidisciplinary project networks have possibilities for taking advantage of opportunities that emerge over the project lifecycle.

The subject of this research is the integrated security systems and the processes of their continuous improvement during the lifecycle. The goal lies in examination of the problem of systematization of lifecycle processes of the integrated security systems and formalization of their lifecycle model, taking into consideration the available practices of building security systems. The effectiveness of complex system support processes is first and foremost determined by the accurate identification of management goals and objectives, which requires an the lifecycle model adequate to the controlled object. Since the integrated security system has the characteristics of both, capital construction (engineering networks) and technical system (integration platform), the question of improvement of the lifecycle model is relevant. The main research results are as follows: substantiation of the problem of systematization of lifecycle models of the integrated security systems; analysis of the approaches towards their standardization, and substantiation of lifecycle model of the integrated security systems based on the system accounting of conducted operations. The novelty of the proposed model lies in the improvement of reference models of the integrated security systems by taking into account the entirety of reconfiguration and modernization operations. Description is given to the problem of systematization of lifecycle processes of the integrated security systems, which occurs due to the possibility of their classification as different groups of the complex systems. The offered lifecycle model of the integrated security systems through systematization of regulatory requirements is an attempt to acquire a non-contradictory list of measures in creation and operation of the integrated security systems. The results of this research can be used in practical activity of the employees of onsite security service in the context of development of the integrated security system. The implementation of the offered lifecycle model of the integrated security system in the processes of their development would allow systematizing the structure of processes, arranging the functions and activity of the departments on the continuous logistic support of the integrated security systems, and ensuring their consistent improvement.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify and define the certification lifecycle of laser powder bed fusion for aerospace applications from equipment acquisition and installation to production, part acceptance and continuous improvement activities. Design/methodology/approach A top–down systems engineering approach is performed consisting of concept development, requirements engineering and systems architecting. This approach is taken from the perspective of a production organization. Findings A certification roadmap is proposed that references industry requirements at the relevant phases of the roadmap. Each phase of the roadmap acts as a decision gate for progression to the next. Originality/value Qualification and certification of metal laser powder bed fusion is currently a challenge within the aerospace industry. From an aerospace point of view, the qualification and certification of this relatively new manufacturing process should not have to be any different from traditional manufacturing processes, although with extensive quality control and regulatory oversight. This paper proposes a means for fulfilling these requirements chronologically and provides guidance on ensuring such quality control throughout the manufacturing system lifecycle. This roadmap provides insight into the qualification and certification of laser powder bed fusion for aerospace applications and provides value for future industrial feasibility studies.

New business models in complex engineering products have favoured the integration of acquisition and sustainment phases in capability development. The product service system (PSS) concept enables manufacturers of complex engineering products to incorporate support services into the product’s manufacturing and sustainment lifecycle. However, the PSS design has imposed significant risks to the manufacturer not only in the manufacture of the product itself, but also in the provision of support services over long period of time at a predetermined price. This paper analysed three case studies using case study research design approach and mapped the service elements of the case studies to the generic complex engineering product service system (CEPSS) model. By establishing the concept of capability distribution for a PSS enterprise, the capability of the CEPSS can be overlaid on the performance-based reward scheme so that decision makers evaluate options related to the business opportunities presented to them.

This paper presents and discusses a survey of existing tools to support design and evaluation of websites, with special emphasis on improving the information navigation process. The amount of information of today's websites, the continuous evolution of the medium and the heterogeneity of typical users' profiles, make the website design task particularly hard. The presented tools are mainly based on recent models of Web usage behavior, and involve various natural language and semantic similarity modeling methods. Validation studies of the presented tools have shown that they can support effectively various phases of the website design lifecycle including information structuring, hyperlink evaluation and assessment of alternative designs. In this paper, existing techniques are discussed, the aspects of Web design that (should and) could be better supported are identified and suggestions are made on extensions of existing approaches to better support the usability evaluation process.

The explosion in the production of scientific data in recent years is placing strains upon conventional systems supporting integration, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of data and thus constraining the whole scientific process. Support for handling large quantities of diverse information can be provided by e-Science methodologies and the cyber-infrastructure that enables collaborative handling of such data. Regard needs to be taken of the whole process involved in scientific discovery. This includes the consideration of the requirements of the users and consumers further down the information chain and what they might ideally prefer to impose on the generators of those data. As the degree of digital capture in the laboratory increases, it is possible to improve the automatic acquisition of the ‘context of the data’ as well as the data themselves. This process provides an opportunity for the data creators to ensure that many of the problems they often encounter in later stages are avoided. We wish to elevate curation to an operation to be considered by the laboratory scientist as part of good laboratory practice, not a procedure of concern merely to the few specialising in archival processes. Designing curation into experiments is an effective solution to the provision of high-quality metadata that leads to better, more re-usable data and to better science.

The Ministry of National Defense(MND)initialized the Continuous Acquisition and Life-Cycle Support(CALS)to military establishments since July 1997. The objective was enforcing a computer-based procedure with common standards and regulations to rebuild infrastructure, improving logistics quality, and reducing lifespan cost for military systems. Many CALS-related articles have been published in recent years. Most of them were survey reports rather than real case studies. To fill this knowledge gap, an Army CALS pilot program was selected, and the consequence and efficiency of conducting CALS were thoroughly evaluated. Since xxxx(xx) were the only Army institution with both capabilities of R&D and producing of combat vehicles, the case study of conducting CALS in xx was therefore relatively realistic. From xx 1999 to xx 2002, xx'CALS team members have investigated possible plans and schedules, contracted subsystems of PDM, LDM, IETM, and completed personnel trainings. During this period, details of the above-mentioned tasks were truly recorded, evaluated, and analyzed. These valuable results consisted of the majority of this thesis. Furthermore, suggestions were included of future research and for those who are ready to initialize CALS.

The trend of the PLC (product life cycle) of the consumptive commodity is shortening because of the demand variation apace. To a supply and distribution strategic alliance, it is hard and hard to control this situation. It uses the concept of Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support (CALS) as the decision kernel of a supply and distribution strategic alliance, and the PLC is the policy to develop dynamic supply and distribution algorithm in this thesis. The CALS system will use the Product Life Cycle - Dynamic Supply and Distribution (PLC-DS/D) heuristic algorithm as the control kernel to make the decision of the supply and distribution and maximize the net profit of the alliance. The Statistical Optimization is used to examine the solution quality of the PLC-DS/D. About the performance indexes, the major one is the net profit of the alliance, and the second ones are the average of the supply decision time, the average of the distribution decision time, and the average of the day alliance profit. The results show that the PLC-DS/D has good behavior in solution quality and performance evaluation.

Abstract Air Force is the branch of the armed forces emphasizing the importance of science and technology. The study mainly focuses on the process of downsizing and up-graded manpower programs, and analyze the effects of the logistics organizations in Air Force Base( AFB ) that integrates Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support with the application of Knowledge Management ( KM ). I hope it can provide some suggestions and concrete measures to AF logistics management, and help to establish excellent logistics management patterns. The study adopted questionnaires to get the real answer from the logistics chiefs, undertakers, and commissioned and non-commissioned officers who carry out operations in logistics units in AFB. There were 400 packages of questionnaires that were mailed and 350 of them were received. After deleting invalid ones, the total effective number of packages of questionnaires is 319 and returning answer rate is 79.8%. The study consists of three types of hypotheses: first, correlation of individual differences in targeted variables; second, inter-relatedness among targeted variables; third, influences among targeted variables. Statistical analysis for collected data include reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, correlative and regressive. The major finding of the current study includes: 1.Education level in individual difference and Accumulation Type and Professional Type of KM are significantly different partly. 2.The place where troops are stationed in individual difference and KM are significantly different. 3.The rank in individual difference and Learning Type of KM are much significantly different. 4.Accumulation Type, Professional Type and Learning Type of KM vs. Logistics Analysis Type, Logistics Performance Type, Information Exchange Type and Technology- Oriented Type of CALS are significantly positive related. 5.Accumulation Type, Professional Type and Learning Type of KM vs. Logistics Analysis Type, Logistics Performance Type, Information Exchange Type and Technology- Oriented Type of CALS have significantly positive influence. According to the above conclusion, the study will provide AF logistics management some suggestions as following: 1.Establish the interactive relationship between KM and CALS so that they can make AF logistics support maximize its efficiency. 2.Develop innovative, learning and up-grated strategy of future AF logistics management. Audio metadata are an essential tool that supports control and management of systems that create, transmit, describe, manage, and store digital audio. Throughout the lifecycle of digital audio objects—pre-production, acquisition and production, post-production, distribution, storage, transmission, and archiving—metadata “describe the attributes of a resource, characterize resource relationships, and support resource discovery, management, and effective use” (Vellucci, 1999). Technical and structural metadata enable audio in devices and software applications; descriptive metadata provide context. Metadata also relate and incorporate audio in a multimedia environment resulting in profound effects on conception, reception, and consumption.

Background: HL7 Austria is a non-profit association dedicated to improving electronic data communication and interoperability in healthcare using the HL7 international standards. Objectives: We aim to provide an open infrastructure to develop, manage, and maintain HL7 FHIR implementation guides. Methods: We utilize state-of-the-art open-source tooling developed by the FHIR community to support continuous integration. Results: The implementation guides can be published as static HTML websites and maintained using GitHub. Conclusion: The solution supports all steps of a standard’s lifecycle, from drafting and reviewing to balloting, publishing, and maintenance.

Business environments nowadays, different from those not long ago, change very quickly. As for enterprise integration, frequently, the following reasons are found, which considerably contribute to the changes that would be necessary in conducting enterprise integration: 1) Business acquisition & merger – Two or more business organizations want to leverage each other’s products and marketing strengths to strive for a competitive advantage in business; 2) Dynamically changing market conditions - Due to the globalization and changing customer needs, products and services products must be changed. Therefore, the business operations managing the lifecycle of the products and services must be changed accordingly; 3) Technology advancement – New applications are introduced or enhancements and enrichments of support functions in the existing applications become necessary to help improve the business operations further in an organization. A fictional organization is provided in this chapter, aimed at demonstrating how a typical organization relies on information systems in support of its daily business operations and management. The main supports enabled by the deployed information systems at this organization are fully explained first. Then the importance and challenge of enterprise integration is discussed, which lays out a necessary foundation for the discussions in the remaining chapters.

The growth of English-medium instruction (EMI) calls for a new model of teaching and learning fit for the 21st century. It has been argued that formal education must be transformed to enable the new forms of learning needed to tackle complex global challenges. Much EMI research offers compelling arguments for transforming pedagogy to better support the acquisition of these skills. However, the question of how best to teach them has been overlooked. In order to prepare teaching staff for the challenges of multilingual and multicultural learning spaces, educational developers at Karolinska Institutet (KI) have developed a continuous professional development course to cater for the needs of both teachers and education developers in internationalised settings. This chapter will lay out the structure of the course and the thinking that went behind its conception. Through the testimonials of both lecturers and education developers, this chapter will also engage readers in reflections on how lecturers and education developers have apprehended their shifting roles and profiles.

Abstract This paper focuses on Floating Production Installations, which are assets designed based on site-specific environmental conditions to determine their design service life. The longevity of these assets depends on the fatigue aspects related to the structural elements and mooring systems. Among the challenges involving the continued services of ageing assets is the integrity of these elements. When an asset reaches its end of design service life, Operators often decide to undergo a life extension process for safe continued operations. Alife extension process generally includes three phases: investigation, determination and implementation. Following a baseline inspection to determine the present conditions of the structures, engineering assessments are to be carried out to evaluate the fatigue damage through the lifecycle of the installation and therefore determine the remaining fatigue life. Collecting information to execute these assessments is challenging and can be automated with the use of digital technology. Digital tools allow an accurate collection of data, providing a continuous evaluation of the remaining fatigue life and supporting an informed decision-making process. Observing the operation of several aging assets and their structural behaviour, the parameters to be measured during the installation's lifecycle have been identified along with other aspects that also contribute to the determination of its continued service. The recommended data acquisition for relevant measurements is summarized in this paper. The application of sensors and monitoring systems on the installations allows measuring these parameters on a continuous basis, and consequently, Operators are able to determine the degradation pattern that the structure is subject to. An estimation of the remaining fatigue life can be achieved by using predictive analysis, which, along with insights of the future expected corrosion, provides Operators the necessary basis to implement corrective measures and mitigations to avoid the occurrence of a failure. This paper offers an innovative, forward-looking technology that allies physics-based processes with digital technology, supported by predictive analytics and continuous structural evaluation, to assess the integrity of an offshore asset in support of safe continued services.

Many pipeline industry managers and senior officials intuitively understand that location is important to most aspects related to pipelines throughout the life-cycle — from project concept, through construction and operations and finally to decommissioning. However, many organizations are not taking full advantage of location as being a vital component to support business decision-making across the entire range of activities undertaken by pipeline companies. A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a tool that takes advantage of geography. GIS is ideally suited for the storage, display, and output of geographic data, and moreover, the analysis and modeling of geographic data. While GIS has been around as a technology for over 30 years it is only in the last several years that it has started to be extensively used within the pipeline industry. Most managers have heard about GIS. Many organizations have already started to implement GIS and CAD-based solutions through individual projects and with a technical focus of automating work flows or business processes such as generating alignment sheets, regulatory compliance, integrity management, and land management to name a few. Given that many of these applications tend to be stand-alone or isolated developments, pipeline companies need to look at the complete spatial environment of all potential tools and applications, and support this with a vision of a common spatial data warehouse in a holistic sense. Any company that embraces a continuous gathering of spatial data throughout the pipeline life-cyle will have a significant knowledge base whose value will increase over time. A spatial data warehouse of truly integrated environmental, engineering and socioeconomic factors related to a pipeline during the entire lifecycle will have a total value that transcends the value of the individual factors. The Return on Investment (ROI) of a properly developed GIS framework and spatial data warehouse looking at all operational demands and support applications will certainly be many times over the original expenditure as measured in cost savings as well as better decision making. This paper will present insights and approaches into how to properly and effectively leverage the spatial data asset and in deploying GIS throughout the enterprise. These include addressing all of the elements that are key in implementing GIS — hardware, software, data, people and methods — as well as considering some of the ROI and value-based measures for GIS success.

With the advent of full service contracts by the Navy, shipyards have become responsible for the life cycle support of ships, including maintenance and logistics data over the life of the ship. Hence, it will become increasingly important for shipyards to efficiently integrate acquisition data with lifecycle support products. In particular, the use of an Integrated Data Environment (IDE), mandated for all ACAT1 acquisition programs, serves to collect and configure design, engineering and production information during acquisition. This information is also required to develop the logistics data for the ship, including technical publications, as well as support life cycle support systems. The shipyard’s cost and performance of these new Navy contracts will depend on the efficient incorporation of this engineering and design information. The Navy and the aerospace domains are moving toward the adoption of a new the life cycle support standard for technical publication: the International Specification for Technical Publications utilizing a common source database (a.k.a. S1000D). This standard applies to both land and sea specific applications, as well as defense and commercial uses. The purpose of the specification was to address the dramatically rising costs of managing life cycle support information. The specification adopts ISO, CALS, and W3C standards. In fact, it uses STEP AP239, Product Life Cycle Support (PLCS) as one of its normative standards The Integrated Shipbuilding Environment (ISE) project has published a technical architecture, including XML-based information models, for the sharing of product model data to exchange design, engineering, and production data. The direct use of such data in the population of technical publications could result in significant savings. This paper discusses the requirements and use cases necessary to define the architecture and process to populate portions of the ‘common source database’ for ship life cycle support using product model data in ISE format. Specifically it addresses the issues involved in generating PLCS technical data directly from ISE product model data and populating a database in accordance with the S1000D standard. Both the S1000D standard for interactive technical documentation and AP239, lifecycle support data, will be analyzed based on the ISE technical architecture. The integration of the document-centric S1000D standard with the data-centric AP239 and ISE standards is discussed.

Continuous review, adaptation and improvement through upkeep and maintenance periods has enabled the Royal Navy submarine fleet to remain fit for purpose through successive life extension programmes. Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth, provides nuclear submarine dry dock facilities for maintenance. The Site Licences which authorise operations of these nuclear facilities are administered by the Office for Nuclear Regulation which ensures that the intent of the facility nuclear safety case is maintained throughout all operations. As such, any dock modifications and refit support equipment or structures must be designed within the framework of the safety case. A requirement to undertake refit activities external to the hull of a nuclear submarine while in dock resulted in a design and build project for a temporary dock-bottom building to provide a safe and capable environment. The design of this building’s structure and sub-systems was heavily influenced by the nuclear safety case. This paper explores the challenges of designing equipment within the constraints of the nuclear licensed site, identifies the provenance and the requirements of the nuclear safety case of a dry dock nuclear facility, and examines the influence of this safety case upon requirements management, and the design lifecycle. The design of the dock-bottom building is presented, including an outline of the technical challenges which arose, and some of the novel solutions developed, including; a modular, seismically- qualified, primary structure; and a modified crane incorporating a crushable element. The paper explores the issues of finite element analysis of the primary structure to substantiate performance and satisfy the safety case. The paper also presents a discussion of the influence and impact of the safety case upon the building design project.

Shipyards are increasingly responsible for the life cycle support of ships, including maintenance and logistics data over the life of the ship. Hence, it has become important for shipyards to efficiently integrate acquisition product model data with the lifecycle support product model data. The use of Integrated Data Environments (IDE) for Navy ship programs has fostered the integration of design, logistics, and production information for the ship. However, it has not been possible to exchange this integrated data set; rather, different data is typically transferred at different times often resulting in inconsistency. The Product Life Cycle Support (PLCS) STEP standard (ISO 10303-239) for logistics data and life cycle support provides the capability to exchange logistics data linked back to design data. The standard was developed and has been implemented by the aerospace and defense industry. The ISE-6 project demonstrated the feasibility of using the PLCS standard for naval shipbuilding. This approach should also enable interoperability of life cycle data with other defense programs. The ISE-6 team mapped naval shipbuilding requirements into PLCS, while preserving compatibility with existing PLCS implementations. A unique feature was the automated mapping via template expansion and identification. The ISE-6 team conducted a demonstration of this capability, exchanging data between two Integrated Data Environments (IDE) and a Knowledge Management tool, which was used to modify and update the data for the receiving IDE. During the next phase of the project, the ISE-6 team will be investigating interoperability using the S1000D Specification for the procurement and production of technical publications.

With the demand for increased availability and a higher level of safety, the defence industry is faced with reducing operational and maintenance budgets. Additional focus on acquisition programmes is being placed on through-life requirements, with demonstration and assurances sought early in the life cycle that these requirements can be achieved. Generic approaches to availability, cost and safety modelling are being re-examined, with a push to provide a universal view across both the submarine life-cycle and the support enterprise. The role of a support solution is to ensure continuous understanding of the platform material state, thereby maintaining operational readiness, and to do so in a safe and cost effective manner. Despite the fact that the mission only represents a portion of the life of a platform, traditional availability studies have tended to focus on the performance in this state, thus neglecting the impact that standby and maintenance periods may have. This paper looks beyond the inherent design characteristics of a platform and towards the other enterprise factors that may affect availability, with a view to modelling and quantifying the impact these influences may have on overall platform availability. A collaborative approach is described, with data being drawn from a number of organisations at various maturity levels and integrated into a cohesive, class level model. Targets are derived and reports produced that enable interrogation of driving factors down to a low level of granularity across multiple areas, including material failure modes, training provision, facilities, infrastructure and technical publications. Modelling and simulation has been used in order to forecast the ability of a product to meet availability, safety and cost requirements when operated in a defined usage and upkeep cycle. These predictions, performed as early in the design phase as possible, enable the macro effects of small design changes to be assessed and feedback given into design teams. As the design phase progresses, outputs are used to optimise decisions made in the support solution design against constraints in the platform design – with the ultimate aim of maximizing capability whilst working within greater financial constraints. The development of this process and model is intended to provide increased confidence that an available, safe and affordable platform will be delivered.

Porous rocks are rarely homogeneous. Significant spatial variations in elastic properties are often observed in rocks due to depositional, diagenetic, and structural processes. In laminated sandstones, complex carbonates, or unconventional formations, elastic properties can vary on scales from millimeters to tens of meters. Detection of inhomogeneities and their size in rocks is crucial for fracture propagation design, height containment assessment, and for improving well/reservoir productivity. Most laboratory techniques used to measure rock elastic properties fail to distinguish mid-scale anisotropy; results are subject to spatial averaging effects. We introduce a new experimental method to measure continuous compressional- and shear-wave logs of core samples based on measurements of angle-dependent ultrasonic reflection coefficients. Simultaneously with reflected waves, we detect and interpret refracted waves as an independent way to estimate acoustic wave velocities to support the analysis. Our laboratory system is equipped with an array of receivers to continuously collect measurements. At each core location, we acquire acoustic waveforms at multiple transmitter-receiver angles using a pitch-catch acquisition mode (similar to standard sonic tools). This acquisition mode uses multiple receivers, allowing us to obtain measurements at different incidence angles without moving the sample and keeping the distance traveled by reflected waves constant, thereby eliminating the need for geometrical spreading corrections in reflection-coefficient calculations. Reflectivity-vs.-angle measurements are then matched with numerical simulations to estimate rock elastic properties. Ultrasonic reflection-coefficient measurements are successfully used to estimate dynamic elastic rock properties of homogeneous and layered rock samples. For homogenous samples, values are within a 5% range when compared to those obtained with the standard acoustic transmission method. Measurements acquired on natural and artificially constructed samples show significant departures from homogeneous behavior caused by layering. Laboratory reflection-coefficient measurements enable detection of inch-scale anisotropy within the rock, leading to improved assessment of formation elastic properties. Furthermore, continuous core measurements provide high-resolution reflection-coefficient information which is complementary to open-hole ultrasonic logs.

An experimental characterization of nanocomposite strain and damage sensing in support of development of CNT-polymer nanocomposites for structural health monitoring (SHM) applications was conducted. As such, effort here is focused towards examining the piezoresistive behavior of poly(dimethyl-siloxane) (PDMS) and epoxy filled with acid treated single walled carbon nanotubes (COOH-SWNTs) under quasi-static compression and tension. Precision LCR Meter with two terminal method, in conjunction with mechanical testing and data acquisition system were used to measure instantaneous resistance values. Given the emphasis on SHM applications which correlate changes in electrical resistivity to deformation and damage, 0.1 wt% COOH-SWCNTs concentration below the nanocomposite electrical percolation threshold was considered for PDMS and epoxy. Measurements confirmed the onset of damage prior to noticeable effects in the stress-strain response. The resistance measurements were able to both detect strain for PDMS nanocomposites and damage initiation and provide continuous assessment of the damage state between damage initiation events for epoxy nanocomposites. Digital Image Correlation (DIC) System was used to observe the crack propagation on notched epoxy nanocomposite compact tension samples.

Abstract With the rapid development of oilfield exploration and development technology and the continuous improvement of automation and informationization, the petroleum industry has entered the era of digitalization and intelligence. Surveillance data including pressure and saturation play increasingly role of reservoir development machine learning modelling. A large amount of high-quality data can enhance the accuracy and robustness of the neural network model. However, during actual reservoir development, not all data are easily available. Data acquisition is limited to high-cost tests techniques, pressure bulid-up test, reservoir saturation test, and production logging test etc. In this study, we develop a novel workflow to forecast and restore missing well head flow pressure (WHFP) by utilizing Random Forest (RF) algorithms based on the actual dataset obtained from the middle east carbonate reservoir. To evaluate the effect of prediction pressure results, we employed predicted WHFP into production prediction neural network model. With the support of predicted WHFP, the quality and accuracy of neural network production prediction model is much improved. This study provides a low-cost and high-precision WHFP prediction and restoration method for reservoir engineers in decision making.

In the lifecycle of material products, from the very initial design phase of concept generation to the final disposal, information and communication have always played a prominent part that, in the digital era, is growing and is expected to grow further, also enabling the blooming of grass root and bottom-up changes in the galaxy of design-production-retail systems. Since the beginning of the human history, commerce has been playing a major role in shaping social organization systems. Retail services are not just a way to obtain goods: they provide opportunities for social relationship and cultural growth, and can be considered as a field for social innovation. Our research is aimed to investigate the systemic changes that are occurring in the realm of information and communication services in retail of material products, and their consequences on design, production and distribution processes. The research is supported by TIM-Telecom Italia, it is a wide-ranging study of social, professional and industrial phenomena enabled by digital technologies, and it involves both physical (i.e. traditional distribution in physical retail spaces) and on line services. Our goal is to outline strategic approaches to the design of innovative service/systems and, presently, we mainly focus on two key issue: - understanding and modelling the tangle of factors that determine the user experience in traditional and digital shopping processes; - develop design methodologies supporting the creation of new meaningful services so to support the customers in the understanding of value and in the search of quality in shopping processes. The paper investigates new social behaviors related to shopping, such as show-rooming and web-rooming, and we demonstrate that the pervasive use of mobile devices produces new social phenomena in retail processes and enables new opportunities to create value in retail services. From the investigation of on-line and off-line markets, it emerges the importance of social dynamics and human interactions belonging to physical world: relational dynamics and knowledge acquisition processes play a very important role in the elicitation of senses and emotions, in cultural upgrading, value understanding, quality awareness, trust building. Thereafter, a driving research questions is: how can we orient the design of innovative services so to improve the relationship between customers and retailers?
