SMA Negeri 13 Ambon, as one of the driving schools in Ambon City, is currently sustaining to carry out transformation efforts comprehensively. This effort certainly raises many sources of conflicts, which, if managed properly, will actually become constructive conflicts that encourage the transformation process. Unfortunately, conflict that happened internally in the school is regarded negative by most of the teachers at the school and actually eventually hinder the transformation process at school. This has a great impact on the teacher's lack of ability to manage conflict in the school. Through the program of Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP), teachers are equipped with the correct understanding of conflict and how to manage conflict appropriately so that it is beneficial for the transformation process at SMA Negeri 13 Ambon.

There are many issues that most Nigerians have an agreement on. As a Contemporary Social Psychologist, one of these is that we want a better Nigeria. We need transformation in all our circumstances as a people and as a nation, to live in peace and unity for enduring economic development. This paper uses the theory of conflict by Karl Marx to interrogate how conflict resolution could be achieved through the process of individual transformation. All Nigerians are likely to agree that they want a peaceful, stable, and prosperous country. Nigerians as also aware of the reality of conflicts manifest in inter- communal clashes, ethnic rivalries, religious rivalries, and terrorism. While government often seek militarized approaches to conflict resolution, this paper, anchored on the belief that all conflicts are first personal before they become communal and national. The paper also proposes the deliberate education of the individual citizen on conflict resolution. The paper therefore examines types of conflicts, actors, conflict development in Nigeria and offers eighteen (18) conflict management approaches.

Purpose – The aim of this paper is to test the moderating role of emotion regulation in the transformation of both task and process conflict into relationship conflict. Design/methodology/approach – A field study of multi-teams systems, in which (94) respondents are engaged in interpersonal and inter-team interactions, was conducted to test the effects of the interaction of emotion regulation and task and process conflict on the emergence of relationship conflict in 23 multi-team client/supplier systems. Findings – The findings show that when collective emotion regulation strategies are effective, process conflict is less likely to transform into relationship conflict. An emerging finding of this study shows that process conflict mediates the interaction between task conflict and emotion regulation on relationship conflict in multi-team systems. Research limitations/implications – This study uses a relatively small number of projects and participants: further studies with larger samples are recommended; in addition, longitudinal studies would allow for further testing the effect of team longevity in the emergence of effective emotion regulation strategies.ct transforming into relationship conflicts. Practical implications – The findings imply that managers of multi-team systems should actively try to stimulate their teams to develop effective emotion regulation strategies as effective emotion regulation mechanisms minimize the risk of process conflict transforming into relationship conflicts. Originality/value – The paper looks at a real-world (as opposed to lab-situation) environment; it addresses a contingency model of intra-group conflict and tests the transformation of task and process conflicts into relationship conflict taking into account the moderating effect of emotion regulation.

This study explores conflict transformation practices and actors through an analytical research approach. It reveals that various actors engaged in conflict and peace initiatives have primarily focused on activities cantered around conflict management, prevention, and resolution. This limited emphasis on conflict transformation is attributed to a lack of governmental attention to strategic planning in this regard. Sources of conflict identified include grievances, animal raiding, land disputes, fishing rights, and competition over water and pasture resources. Efforts aimed at conflict transformation encompass resilience-building, rangeland management, NGO interventions in peace dialogues, integration of pastoralism and agro-pastoralism with commercial agriculture, implementation of drought and conflict early warning systems, water resource management and development, range land rehabilitation, and provision of education to affected communities. While these activities have played a significant role in addressing conflicts and transforming relationships, they are deemed insufficient and inadequately executed for comprehensive conflict transformation. Nonetheless, they serve as vital drivers of peace. Although the current conflict transformation mechanisms in place have not resulted in significant changes in the conflict situation, the beginnings are promising and commendable. The government and other stakeholders are urged to engage in proactive conflict intervention mechanisms to effectuate conflict transformation and foster peace or mitigate its adverse impacts. Furthermore, the study advocates for the provision of informal peace education to all adult community members, with the possibility of formalizing this education as an existing conflict transformation option.

Conflicts are inevitable. They can be prevented on some occasions, managed on others, but resolved only if the term conflict is taken to mean the satisfaction of apparent demands rather than the total eradication of underlying sentiments. Within the context of South Africa and Nigeria, two nations characterised by a mix of reputations, the understanding of the concepts of conflict prevention, conflict management and conflict transformation is pertinent to courting peace and harmony among the different groups of people. For one, conflict resolution opportunities restore our humanness and avowed commitment to the larger society. This is premised against the backdrop that conflict is both an intrinsic and inevitable part of human existence involving the pursuit of incompatible interests and goals by parties. This paper attempts the development of a general framework for understanding the different concepts of conflict. The paper concludes by admitting that conflict resolution has less to do with removing conflict per se, but evolving an appropriate option for nipping it in the bud before it degenerates into a crisis. Conflict resolution therefore becomes the harbinger of our social reconstruction and the criterion for measuring the sanity and conformity of social systems

Conflict that arises due to culture clash could not be avoided. One of the Slum area that once known as the area of prostitution, Kalijodo, were being transformed by the local government into an area of green open space and also child friendly integrated public spaces. This transformation has a significant impact toward the Kalijodo merchant. These merchants face many and serious conflict. The conflicts due to culture clash and its management that were being faced by Kalijodo merchants are the focus of this research. This research uses a qualitative approach by gathering data and information through observation and in-depth interview. The concept of personal and interpersonal conflict and conflict management model by A.Devito (2011) is used in order to get a comprehend understanding of the conflict that rise, and ways to manage it. This research shows that the Kalijodo merchants faced intrapersonal conflict because they were forced to choose between two difficult option, and also interpersonal conflicts that occurs in two waves. The first wave was during the eviction and renovation (conflicts between Kalijodo merchants), and the second wave was from the moment that the renovation is completed until this present time (conflicts between Kalijodo merchants and newcomer merchants from other district). Furthermore, the conflict management that was applied is the conflict management model of accommodation (I lose, You Win). Kalijodo merchants put aside the personal interests in order to make the local government mission accomplished.

Abstract Teaching young people how to deal with conflict is rarely part of a school curriculum. Although, as social communities with humans of different ages, and levels of power and status, schools themselves are full of conflict, they are often reluctant for many reasons to acknowledge the fact, and more reluctant to give it an explicit profile by including the teaching of conflict management and transformation within the curriculum. Most conflict and bullying management in schools is reactive (i.e. after the fact), top-down (i.e. done to or with the participants by teachers and school leaders), and any training is extra-curricular. Cooling Conflict was a ten-year action research project in Australia, part of the international dracon project, investigating how drama can provide young people with the cognitive tools to resolve their own and other people’s conflicts, and to manage bullying for themselves. The program developed carefully structured drama pedagogy to give students knowledge and a vocabulary to understand the origins and structures of conflict, and to provide practice in the range of strategies available for resolving, managing or transforming conflict. The aim was to provide the students with autonomy and agency over this knowledge, and peer teaching became an important part of the program, which was (and still is) implemented in a wide range of educational settings internationally, formal and informal. From the outset and wherever possible, the program was deliberately integrated into standard curriculum time and programs, to embed the concept that conflict transformation and management can be learnt through experiential, integral learning. Over ten years, the project accumulated overwhelming evidence that, properly used, drama pedagogy is a valuable method for providing students with the tools they need to manage or transform their own conflicts, and themselves to take responsibility for assisting peers and younger students to do the same.

Today the conflict nature of digital transformation became apparent. However, very limited study has been carried out on this issue. The aim of this study is today a theoretical basis for further studies. The authors systematize theoretical and practical material and made a critical selection of relevant conceptual tools focused on analyzing the interrelation of risk-reflections and conflict management strategies. Using risk-reflective and conflict logical approaches, the authors came to the conclusion that digital transformation can be perceived by social actors as a risk, and as a reflection of this reaction, may ignite social conflicts. It was inferred that the destructive risk reflection can be presented as an unrealistic conflict, in which real object is replaced by a false one and demonstrates an inadequate choice of response to threats and risks. Thus, the development of tools for such reflections and interventions allows transforming the response to threats towards strengthening the constructive component, therefore preventing violent unrealistic conflicts owing to risks.

Like other types of diaspora groups, conflict-generated diasporas display a strong attachment to their countries of origin, and structure their identities and ideologies around discourses referring to their homeland. However, their inner cleavages, born out of the conflicts raging in their home countries, can run very deep. The maintenance of their ethnic, religious, linguistic or political divisions even generations after the migration process has taken place sometimes leads to conflict transportation processes, whereby the conflicts raging in their home countries are reproduced and maintained in countries of settlement. Incidents opposing rival diaspora groups are thus often interpreted as a prolongation or reproduction of core conflicts raging in their regions of origin. Against this assumption, this article argues that if transported conflicts often formally take the shape of core conflicts, and emulate them by using the same language, symbols and ethnic/religious/linguistic categories, they are also deeply transformed by the migration process itself. In this perspective, this article explores the transformation and reinvention of conflict-generated diasporas’ politics, and proposes to look at the autonomisation processes they display vis-à-vis the core conflicts, in terms of content but also of objectives, ultimately generating a drift at the political and organisational levels.

Task conflict influences organizational effectiveness differentially based on given contingencies. Effective conflict management is thus necessary in order to properly utilize task conflict in organizations. The present research was conducted to uncover buffer conditions, or moderators that diminish transformation effect of from task conflict into relationship conflict. Specifically, the researchers proposed (1) evaluation apprehension and (2) relational intimacy would buffer the transformation of task conflict into relationship conflict. In the first research, 269 employees participated in self-report survey. The results showed that the transformation of task conflict into relationship conflict more occurred in a evaluation apprehension situation than a non-evaluation apprehension situation and less occurred in a relational intimacy than a relational non-intimacy. The researchers then conducted an experiment on 88 undergraduate students. The results of the second research also indicated that the conflict transformation less occurred in non-evaluation apprehension condition and relational intimacy condition in consistence with study 1. Based on the results, theoretical and practical implications, research limitations and future research directions are discussed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate diversity conflict intersections and how the meanings of diversity markers such as gender and race might be transformed. It highlights the resources of South African women leaders in higher education institutions for doing so. Design/methodology/approach This study proceeds from a social constructivist perspective, seeking to uncover narrated conflict experiences via a hermeneutical approach. Findings Women leaders in South Africa experience diversity conflict across multiple intersecting diversity markers, such as gender, race, ethnicity and class. They are united by inner resources which, if utilized, might bring about transformation. Research limitations/implications Intersectional approach to diversity conflict is a viable means for uncovering positive resources for transformation across intersecting diversity markers. Practical implications Practitioners wishing to overcome diversity conflict should identify positive resources across intersecting diversity markers. This way, organizations and individuals might bring about transformation. Social implications In societal environment wherein one diversity marker is institutionalized on a structural level, such as race in South Africa, diversity conflict might be enlarged beyond its actual scope, thereby becoming insurmountable. This needs to be prevented. Originality/value This paper studies diversity conflict intersections in a highly diverse societal environment in organizations facing transformational challenges and from the perspective of women leaders.

Despite the fact that the situation in Ukraine's economy remains challenging, as the economic environment does not create reliable preconditions for economic growth, economic and social problems continue to persist, deepen and exacerbate. The country's economy is currently characterized by a pronounced raw material-based economy with an underdeveloped manufacturing industry. Ensuring qualitative transformational changes in the economy is not possible without consistent capital accumulation of enterprises on a simple and expanded basis. The tools used by domestic enterprises (traditional instruments and methods) to manage innovation and investment activities are imperfect, as they do not allow timely identification and forecasting of possible risks, accurate assessment of the decline in innovation and investment potential and economic sustainability of enterprises. Identification of the cause and effect relationships of crisis phenomena ensures the implementation of the anti-crisis management mechanism in a transformational economy. For successful innovation and investment activities of an enterprise in the context of post-conflict transformation, a qualitative analysis and systematization of the impact of risks is necessary. The aim of the article is to analyze and systematize the impact of risks on the innovation and investment activity of enterprise in the context of post-conflict transformation. To achieve this goal, all types of risks of innovation and investment activity were systematized according to certain features and depicted schematically. The article analyses approaches to risk definition, investment risks, innovation risks, specific risks, innovation risks according to the subject of innovation, and risks of entrepreneurial activity. It is noted that the analysis of risk impact contributes to the further development of the theory of riskology. It is concluded that systematization of the impact of risks on the innovation and investment activities of enterprise in the context of post-conflict transformation is necessary to formalize the risk management processes at enterprises. The author notes that in the context of military conflict and post-conflict transformations, new types of risks may arise, so this issue requires further research.

The article focuses on the role of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and its efforts, in collaboration with local NGOs, in bringing about conflict resolution in the Republic of Moldova. The OSCE has been active in the Republic of Moldova for the last twenty years and has been working with NGOS from both sides of the Dniester/ Nistru river. While the process has met with several challenges over the years, the recent full-fledged war against Ukraine has complicated the strategy for conflict settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict even more. The main goal of this article is to present and analyse various forms of cooperation between the OSCE and local civil society actors and to identify activities which encourage confidence-building. To this end, we will discuss relevant conceptual approaches in the field of Conflict Resolution and focus on mediation, conflict transformation, conflict settlement, and reconciliation. Moreover, we will explore activities of civil society organizations which are engaged in dialogue and collaboration with the OSCE. Methodologically, the article is built around a constructivist theorizing and the main argument is that the Transdniestrian conflict is an identity conflict and reconciling the parties, from grass-root level upwards to community leaders, ensures identity transformation and confidence building. The latter are key aspects in fostering trust, dialogue, and conflict management.

Zanzibar has had a turbulent political history for more than half a century, from the time of nationalist struggles in the 1950s. The major bone of contestation has revolved around the politics of identity with its resultant long-standing political conflict. In November 2009, the then President of Zanzibar, Amani Abeid Karume from Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), and the Civic United Front (CUF) Secretary-General, Seif Shariff Hamad met and declared their commitment in public to end the long-standing political conflict between the two main political parties on the islands. This article seeks to explain the process of reconciliation in Zanzibar with specific reference to the role of leadership in transformational change. The study was conducted between March 2015 and February 2017, involving two main data collection methods: in-depth interviews and documentary reviews. Interviews were conducted with politicians, government functionaries, academics, journalists, and leaders of civil society organizations. The study found that the only substantive achievements that were realized in the short run were power-sharing under the Government of National Unity (GNU) and some changes in attitudes among some of the key political actors, which, to a certain degree, amounted to a discourse switch from a hostile political attitude based on zero-sum politics to the recognition of the need for cooperation across party lines. The uniqueness of the power-sharing arrangement in Zanzibar was that the system was entrenched in the constitution. The constitution was negotiated and established before the election. The theory of transformational change suggests that transformational leaders tend to have a strong personal attachment to their missions. Their absence in the course of implementation may sometimes negatively impact the transformation process, even in the context where the mission has been translated within the legal and constitutional framework. The case of Zanzibar indicates a pressing need for deepening the power-sharing deal so that it becomes people-centered rather than a mere elite project entrenched in partisan politics.

Purpose The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of inter-organizational conflicts on the project added value in the Chinese construction industry, and also to examine the mediating effect of conflicts on project added value and the moderating effect of conflict management strategies. Design/methodology/approach A conceptual model was developed, and a structured questionnaire survey was conducted with 667 professionals. The structural equation modeling technique was used to analyze the data. Findings The results showed that task conflict, relationship conflict and process conflict were influenced by subject characteristics of project participants, bilateral relationship characteristics and project characteristics. Similarly, these three types of conflicts interact with each other. Meanwhile, these three types of conflicts influence the added value in construction projects, which are moderated by conflict management strategies. Under a collaborating strategy, task conflict and process conflict were positively associated with project added value, and relationship conflict was negatively associated with project added value. Under a competing strategy, task conflict, process conflict and relationship conflict were negatively associated with added value in construction projects. Therefore, the constructive and destructive effects of conflicts on project added value under different conflict management strategies are verified in Chinese construction projects. Research limitations/implications The variables may not be exhaustive for construction projects and most of them were applied in construction projects for the first time. As a result, their rationality and effectiveness could be further improved. The results implied that inter-organizational conflicts had a constructive effect on project added value and should attract broad attention for future research. Additionally, different driving factors had different influences on these conflicts, and even the driving factors can be divided into different dimensions. Practical implications This study provides a better understanding of the relationship between inter-organizational conflicts and added value in construction projects, and a reliable reference for the project manager to effectively deal with these conflicts. In addition, this research reveals the effects of conflicts on project added value and the path of conflicts transformation. This provides a useful reference for project managers to take advantage of the positive effect of task conflict and process conflict, and to avoid the negative effect of relationship conflict. Originality/value Very few studies attempted to examine the effects of inter-organizational conflicts on project added value in construction projects. Therefore, this research makes significant theoretical and practical contributions to the existing body of knowledge on the conflict management and project added value. This research provides an empirical evidence to support the viewpoint that different types of conflicts can be mutually transformed. Similarly, this study explains how conflicts present functional and dysfunctional effects in construction projects. Both of them are potential theoretical contributions to the existing body of knowledge.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to verify whether digital transformation strategy (DTS) could improve the organizational performance and provide a comprehensive analysis for enterprises on the necessity of implementing digital transformation in the context of China and draw on the perspectives of “Skewed conflict,” “minority dissent theory” and “too-much-of-a-good-thing.” This study investigates the curvilinear moderating role of cognitive conflict between DTS and performance. Design/methodology/approach An empirical investigation was used to collect a large sample data of Chinese enterprises’ digital transformation. A multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS was used to test the proposed hypotheses such as the inverted U-shaped moderating effect of the cognitive conflict. Findings In the Chinese context, DTS has a positive relationship on the short- and long-term financial performance. Moreover, this relationship was moderated by cognitive conflict such that the relationship between DTS and short-term financial performance could be further enhanced under the moderate cognitive conflict; however, the relationship between DTS and long-term financial performance was considerably influenced for higher cognitive conflict. Originality/value Based on the co-evolution of the information technology/information system (IT/IS) and business strategy, this study clarified the relationships among DTS, digital strategy and business and information technology strategies. By focusing on corporate strategy, this study further examined the effect of digital transformation on both short- and long-term financial performance. To further reveal the micro-psychological mechanisms underlying the effect of DTS on organizational performance, this study confirmed the inverted U-shaped moderating effect of the top management team’s cognitive conflict. Therefore, this research provides a new theoretical perspective for future research in the field of IT/IS, DTS and digital strategy.

The study interrogates the influence of statist inter-ethnic political leadership transformation in the management of inter-ethnic conflicts in Bungoma County. In Kenya, specifically in Bungoma, the 1963 conflict in the region acquired a political and national outlook. In 1992, despite 29 years of independence, the violence was unparalleled. The specific objective of the study was to examine the effect of statist inter-ethnic political leadership integration in the management of inter-ethnic conflict in Bungoma County. The study followed a conceptual framework that was based on Lederach's Conflict Transformation and Gultang's Conflict Triangle theories. A descriptive research design was adopted. By using the Yamane 1967 formula, a sample size of 400 participants was derived from the 1375065 population. Participants were distributed randomly, purposefully, and proportionately. Questionnaires, interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), and document analysis were used to collect primary and secondary data, respectively. Microsoft Excel performed both quantitative and qualitative data analysis through thematization, corroboration, and verification. The findings were: Unlike inter-marriage (23%), culture (20%), and trade (15%), 42% of respondents concurred that elders were key in influencing inter-ethnic co-existence. However, colonisation alienated them and made them distinct in their roles. Independent statist political leadership transformation mutated from precipitating inter-ethnic inclined: corruption and greed 17%, political repression 16%, political participation in government 15%, punishment 14%, torture 13%, and demotion 12% to inter-ethnic integration of glimpses of diversity policies into political leadership. Even though peacebuilding was going on, the biggest problems that still needed to be solved were the enforcement of inter-ethnic political leadership integration policies in Bungoma County, the translation of the inter-ethnic political leadership transformation initiative into documentary and creative art, and the separation of administrative and political boundaries from ethnic boundaries.

INTRODUCTION. The relevance of this study lies in the necessity to examine the financial aspects of business entities operating in a period of transformation, precipitated by the ongoing military conflict that began in 2022. Given this critical context, along with global challenges related to COVID-19, understanding financial challenges becomes pertinent for developing more resilient and effective strategies for enterprise management and the economy in these conditions. RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS: The research hypothesis posits that business entities operating in conditions of economic transformation induced by a military conflict are learning from practice and developing strategies to address financial challenges. The aim of the research is to analyze the financial challenges faced by business entities in the context of economic transformations resulting from a military conflict, with the goal of deriving valuable learning insights. METHODS. The following methods were employed for the research: statistical data analysis, comparative analysis, retrospective analysis, data analysis using the "Maddison Project Database" of the University of Groningen, literature review. FINDINGS. In the course of the research, it was found that Ukraine suffered significant losses in its real GDP and industrial production during the military conflict, and these losses proved to be substantial even when compared to other countries that experienced wartime events. The decline in real GDP in 2022 amounted to 29.2%, while industrial production decreased by 38%. The results also underscore the necessity of studying and implementing strategies to support economic recovery in the context of armed conflict. CONCLUSION. The research has confirmed significant losses in Ukraine's real GDP and industrial production during a prolonged military conflict. These results highlight the importance of developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to support economic recovery in the context of armed conflict. For future research, potential directions could include further analysis of the impact of the military conflict on various economic sectors, the study of the effectiveness of implemented recovery programs and their influence on economic resilience, as well as an examination of best practices from other countries in addressing similar financial challenges following wartime conflicts. KEYWORDS: military conflict; real GDP losses; economic recovery support; financial challenges of economic entities.

This paper is devoted to investigation related to role of conflict of interest (i.e. when the same person has a secondary interest together with a main responsibility or first interest) in innovation process, i.e. in the «knowledge into money transformation»process. Secondary interest in this context is not only money and corruption interest, but also ambition for self-realization in different manifestations and forms as well as any other preferences not arising out of decision maker’s primary responsibilities. Some actual situations of conflict of interest including these one’s when budget funds are moving from a customer to an executor of a state order and when information on obtained results is moving from the contractor to the customer have been analyzed. Recommendations for minimizing of conflicts of interest’s negative consequences, and opportunistic behavior generated by these conflicts have been formulated.

Advocates of elicitive conflict transformation (ECT) maintain that the parties to a conflict are the most important resource in efforts to render that conflict less violent. According to them, the transformation of the conflict is immanent to the conflict itself. The claim of ECT theorists is that classical conflict resolution has mostly aimed at overcoming a conflict by means of neutral mediation, while conflict transformation is not primarily concerned with terminating a conflict and considers the conflict worker as part of the conflict system. Although ECT is a communication-based model of conflict management and relies on human media, its media-theoretical aspects are not made explicit, raising the question of what role technological media play in the communicative processes that make up ECT techniques. Through an examination of the claimed differences between conflict resolution and conflict transformation, and focusing on the common roots of new media and the elicitive model in systems and cybernetic theory, this paper asks whether any peacebuilding potential of new media could be found in a specific anti-propagandistic quality of distributed technological media. It concludes by looking at any such potential in social media.

Water management is conflict management, and has been since time immemorial. And yet models of conflict management of recent times regularly ignore the balance between rationality and spirituality that has prevailed in our thinking for millennia, relying almost entirely on the measurable. While this focus has been helpful, perhaps some part of the answer lies not in the world of rationality at all, but rather in the spiritual, ethical and moral dimensions of water conflict resolution, and that re-acknowledging the balance between the rational and the transcendent offers constructs for understanding and working with process. Acknowledging the balance between the quantifiable and the transcendent allows both for more coherent models of conflict transformation and for direct applications to water negotiations. This paper begins by setting the context of current understanding of water conflict and cooperation, then by documenting the geography of the ‘Enlightenment Rift’ – the process by which the global West/North has separated the worlds of rationality and spirituality – and the impact of this rift on ideas related to natural resources management. We continue with a discussion of the current clash of world views, and conclude with a section describing how the two world views might gently be interwoven, for example within a fairly universal construct of four worlds of perception, and how this construct might be employed within the framework of more effective water conflict management and transformation.

This article examines the ongoing transformation of employment relations within the Portuguese public education sector as it affects teachers. It focuses on the negotiation over the amendment of the Teachers' Career Statute, initiated in May 2006, and the subsequent phases of its implementation, highlighting the recent conflict over the application of the performance evaluation system and performance-related pay. It analyses the positions of the teachers' unions and the conflicts that have emerged within the education sector, as well as the interaction of these conflicts with those of the public sector unions with regard to the overall reform of public administration. The significant resistance of teachers and the unified position of their unions in opposition to the reform measures have produced a particular dynamic in their conflict with the government.

This study focuses on watershed management in Northern Thailand, where conflict over forest, land and water-use is a prevailing problem. A characteristic of watershed conflicts is that they are often multifaceted and involve multiple stakeholders with different interests and values, consequently requiring conflict management approaches that are sustainable in their outcomes, including addressing the underlying causes of the conflicts. Drawing from a case study in Mae Tia Mae Tae watershed in Northern Thailand, this study explores how mediation by external third party can contribute to the transformation of conflicts in the watershed and how the broader institutional contexts in which the conflict is embedded shapes the mediation outcomes. The study suggests that co-creation of mutual understanding and recognition of each party’s socio-cultural differences, including land-use practices, are critical in building trust and in how conflict transformation processes moved forward. Moreover, the ability of the mediator in facilitating the establishment of a deliberative institution (i.e. a watershed network committee) and agreed rules on forest utilization were also critical in maintaining long-term collaboration in the watershed and potentially preventing other conflicts arising in the future. Some issues, however, may threaten the continuity of the cooperation and sustainability of peace in the watershed, including the lack of structural reform that formally recognizes local people’s rights, insecure land tenure, and the absence of legal recognition for the watershed network committee as a legitimate mechanism for watershed decision making. The paper discusses these findings by comparing it with those from our previous studies in other locations (Cambodia, Indonesia and Western Thailand) to strengthen the insights from Northern Thailand. Finally, the research puts forward some recommendations for reforms and to strengthen the use of effective mediation, to achieve transformative outcomes, in conflicts of this nature. iation, to achieve transformative outcomes, in conflicts of this nature.

Used as a method of university reform, new public management (NPM) involves an ideology of managerialism that conflicts with collegiality and causes ‘hybridisation’. In management organisations, when organisational goals are not shared at the individual level, this adjustment mechanism shifts to the organisational level. This study aimed to examine whether there are coordination mechanisms at the organisational level in universities by focussing on those in Japan, particularly private universities that require autonomous management. Multi-level analysis results revealed that although there is hybridisation associated with increased managerial pressure, there are no organisational-level mechanisms to reduce conflict. In conclusion, the authors point out the difficulty of organising private universities based on managerialism and suggests that university reform in Japan may be ‘hollowing out’ in the public sector as well. Further, the study emphasises the importance of undertaking a comparative study of governance arrangements in China’s private universities in the future.

This paper presents an assessment of the Non Governmental Organizations and their contributions to development and conflict transformation in communities around waters. The paper underscores the relevance of the place-centered approach to expound the possible contributions of local NGOs to the development processes. It presents the contributions of NGOs at the community level from three angles i.e. from the position of the water resources management, water consumption, and finally from the cultural perspective. Water is presented as a valuable source of development in the irrigation and hydropower sectors of Central Asia. The paper argues that much as water is a potential resource in development processes, it has also been a source of conflicts in particular localities such as Fergana valley. The paper presents a discussion on the possible role and contribution of NGOs in conflict transformation with particular respect to conflicts related to water issues. It argues that being active agents of change and development in societies, NGOs can use the “local context-oriented approach” in the development process and transformation of the tensions linked to the water resources.

This article begins with a quantitative analysis of post-World War II strike activity in a group of European countries and the United States. The analysis highlights two important changes. First, over the past two decades, and particularly during the 1990s, there was a significant decrease in strike activity in the countries surveyed (with the notable exception of Denmark). Secondly, there has been a strong trend towards the so-called tertiarisation of conflict. This raises major problems for the measurement, analysis and regulation of strike activity, the strength of tertiary conflicts being based not on the number of days lost or the number of strikers involved, but on the extent of harm caused to the users of services. The impact of tertiary conflict varies from one country to another, in line with the different national regulatory mechanisms, national institutions and national styles of industrial relations.

Globally, disputes over economic resources often complicated inter-ethnic conflicts. In Kenya, specifically in Bungoma County inter-ethnic economic reasons underpinned 1963 including 1992 conflicts. Objective of the study was to examine the influence of statist inter-ethnic economic integration in management of inter-ethnic conflict in Bungoma. A conceptual framework underpinned by Lederach’s Conflict Transformation and Gultang’s Conflict Triangle guided the study. A descriptive research design was applied. The study was conducted in Bungoma County. Population was sampled by Simple Radom and Purposively. The sample size of 400 participants used was derived from 1375065 population using Yamane 1967 formula. Questionnaires, interviews, Focus Group Discussions and document analysis were instruments used. Microsoft Excel, thematisation, corroboration and verification analysed data. The findings were: Unlike eldership 42%, intermarriage 23% and culture 20%, 15% of respondents agreed that trade initially influenced inter-ethnic co-existence. Its role was alienated and differentiated by colonization. Statist inter-ethnic economic transformation mutated from inter-ethnic inequitable: Economic distribution and access to lack of resources and high population all rated at 16% to inter-ethnic economic political neglect 21%, economic stagnation 15% and competition over resources 17%. Inter-ethnic economic integration diversity policies identified were to be guided by economic equity, population spread and affirmative action. Challenges established were inter-ethnic iniquities in economic, education and development. The study recommends enforcement of inter-ethnic equity policies in resource distribution, jobs and in development.

The problematic area of this article relates to the current direction of research searching for optimal management tools in the context of global changes in the geopolitical and economic space, as well as large-scale migration. The existing conditions have an extremely high conflict-generating potential, which requires the development of effective tools to stabilize and monitor the situation, to seek ways of civilized resolution of conflicts and contradictions. The purpose of the article is the identification of mechanisms for optimizing the management process in the context of the transformation of the conflict political space. The authors of the article suggest an innovative approach to the analysis of the phenomenon of transformation of political space at the superstructure level, using a conflict paradigm, as well as systemic and structural-functional approaches. For a productive way of studying management technologies in the context of the transformation of political space, a frame analysis is proposed that allows observing the dynamics of events, including the results of management practices, in the form of a temporary event matrix and a generalized scheme of interpretations by the observer. The article presents in detail the well-known and new scientific directions dealing with the problems of effective political management, the optimization of the mechanisms for political decision-making, diagnosis, resolution and prevention of conflicts in the socio-economic, ethno-political and other areas, through a comprehensive analysis of the conflictogenesis of a modern socio-political subject. The authors of the article come to the conclusion that the political-administrative elite, the mass media determine the thematization of political-administrative discourse, the dominance in the political media space and the replication of new meanings and symbols. Mechanisms for optimizing the management process, therefore, should be based on developing technologies for managing political risks and emerging spontaneous changes, taking into consideration the presence of unregulated, natural, yet reportable interactions in the sphere of politics, economics and social communications.

There has been a close relationship between conflict, peace, development and sport. The use of sports for international and intra-state conflict analysis and peacebuilding proposes has become an important study subject in the 21st century. Sport can be associated with intolerance, nationalistic sentiments, and, most of time, violence. It is also true that international sport events may cause conflicts, violence, aggression and controversies (Öğretir-Özçelik, 2017). According to sport and olympic ideology, the main function of international sport is to promote international peace and development. It can be also used for a tool for societal change and social transformation. Since the ancient time, sport activities has related to the simulation of struggle between two conflicting parties and the civilized war. This study aims to analyze the link between international and intra-state conflicts, peace and sports. The objective of this paper is to examine the role of sports both conceptually and practically in conflict analysis and peace building. The first part is to present a conceptual framework in the study of sports, conflict resolution, and peace building. Second, it highlights some case studies where sports have an important role in international conflict and a tool for peace and reconciliation. Third, it focuses on the international use of sport and physical activity to attain the culture of peace and development objectives such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The article examines the role of innovation in the development of enterprises. An approach to innovation management at an enterprise in the context of post-conflict transformation is developed, based on the premise that the goals of an enterprise should determine the goals of innovation management, and the processes of innovation management at an enterprise should be integrated with the vertical and horizontal levels of economic and production business processes in the context of post-conflict transformation. Based on the results of the study, the mathematical basis for innovation management in the system of methodological approaches (transfer management, algorithmic management, creative management) based on the identified processes of innovation management at enterprises in the context of post-conflict transformation is determined. An analysis of approaches to the formation of goals for managing innovations at enterprises in the context of post-conflict transformation is carried out. The approach, which is contained within 8 key spaces, with the allocation of 5 groups of goals (financial, production, marketing, human resource management, information and technical support) is substantiated. A system of goals for managing the innovation and investment activities of enterprise is formed. The author details managerial actions/decisions at the strategic, tactical and operational levels and specifies tactical functional goals in the context of financial, production, marketing, human resource management and information technology, which ensures further optimization of the use of various types of resources (primarily human resources) at the enterprise. A mathematical framework has been developed for the subsystem at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. The obtained results can be implemented in the activities of enterprises and used in further scientific research.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between leadership styles and conflict management styles among managers, while handling interpersonal conflict (mangers and subordinates). Design/methodology/approach – Middle-level managers (N = 150) from different private sector manufacturing industries were included in the study to seek responses through questionnaire based on instruments for conflict management and leadership styles. Findings – Managers who perceived to exhibit more on transformational leadership style adopted integrating and obliging style of conflict management. Those who perceived to exhibit more on transactional style opted for compromising style of conflict management. Whereas, managers perceived to exhibit laissez-faire leadership style adopted avoiding style to manage conflicts with subordinates. Originality/value – Despite the universal acceptance of leadership importance in corporate settings, research so far investigated leadership styles as determinants of conflict management styles are population-specific, including nursing managers (Hendel, 2005), university academic staff (Paul, 2006) and healthcare professionals (Saeed, 2008). Furthermore, the findings in the referred studies are not consistent, and this issue seems to be at an exploratory phase that requires further investigation to establish the relationship. Blake and Mouton (1964) and Rahim (1992) tried to measure the strategies in which individuals typically deal with the conflicts. This approach treated conflict styles as individual disposition, stable over time and across situations. It is argued and supported by literature that leadership styles or behaviors remain stable over time and are expected to be significantly related to conflict management styles (Hendel, 2005).

The study analyzed the role of online media, social networks and other online platforms in the formation and dissemination of information about the conflict, as well as its impact on the interaction between commercial companies and their customers. The object of the study is the process of mediatization itself, which plays a significant role in corporate conflicts, having a significant impact on public opinion, the image of the company, determining the course and consequences of the conflict. With the development of information technology, digitalization and the spread of the Internet, the mediatization of corporate conflicts is becoming particularly important. The subject of the study is the system of communication practices of a large commercial company during a period of mediatized crisis. Corporate conflict is considered as an important aspect in the decision-making process in the management of the brand and reputation of the organization. The main research methods are: survey – collection and analysis of data from participants in the conflict, as well as a case study method, which allowed us to consider a specific case in detail through analysis of the key problem, factors influencing the conflict and management decisions made. The study of the phenomenon of mediatization of corporate conflicts has revealed new aspects and trends in the development of complexly regulated contradictions in the Internet space. In addition, the impact of mediatization on the reputation management of commercial companies in the context of corporate conflict was studied. The process of mediatization of corporate conflicts was considered as a multidimensional phenomenon, which includes not only the use of media resources to highlight conflict situations in organizations, but also the transformation of the nature of the conflict itself under the influence of the media. The results of the study showed that mediatization helps to accelerate the escalation of conflict through the instant dissemination of information. At the same time, well-organized interaction with the media allows companies to control information flows, minimize damage and manage public opinion.

In Zimbabwe, a broad-ridge and broad-furrow tillage system was promoted by the state, scientists and a nongovernmental organisation for its presumed agronomic and environmental viability and economic returns for small farmers. Zungwi vlei, a wetland of value to the community was transformed from a common use natural resource into a limited access broad-ridge and broad-furrow irrigation landscape that benefited a small number of people. Our study sought to understand conflicts over natural resources access, use and management arising from this land use change. The study adopted mixed methods combining qualitative and quantitative data collection tools. The results indicated the presence of a wide range of internal and external conflicts following the transformation of the landscape. Prior to the transformation, low levels of conflict were noted. We concluded that despite the ability of the broad-ridge and furrow tillage system to boost agricultural productivity per square meter, it triggered considerable resource use conflicts as fewer families directly benefited from the innovation.Key words: Development, vlei, agricultural technology, resources conflict, political ecology, Zimbabwe

<p>This study sought to appraise the efficacy of conflict management in achieving industrial harmony in Etisalat Nig. Ltd. Conflict has been observed to take a dangerous trend in Nigeria thus the urgent need for its proper management and transformation as essential for peace and progress in the workplace. The problem of conflict in organizations has not only persistently led to low productivity in the industries but also in the disruption in the growth and development of the economy as a whole. The major concern of this study was to determine ways of sustaining harmonious industrial relations in the future thereby avoiding disruptive conflicts. The study adopted the survey research design using questionnaires to collect primary data where a total of 320 respondents were randomly selected from the population as the sample size and 300 respondents returned their questionnaires representing 97% response rate. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Hypotheses were tested through chi-square method. The findings revealed that poor conflict management has devastating effects on Industrial Harmony of Etisalat Nigeria. It was also revealed that conflict is associated to performance standard targets. To this end, it was recommended that the standards set by management be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and should have time limit. It was also recommended that management should enhance communication with staff to address issues that can produce conflicts before they break open. And also, the management should disseminate information or give orders clearly by formally instructing employees on the use of written guidelines (e.g. memos, circular etc.) and procedures to prevent communication gap, so that staffs will have a clear understanding and correct interpretation of all information and instructions which in turn lead to industrial Harmony.</p>

Conflicting evidence affects the final target recognition results. Thus, managing conflicting evidence efficiently can help to improve the belief degree of the true target. In current research, the existing approaches based on belief entropy use belief entropy itself to measure evidence conflict. However, it is not convincing to characterize the evidence conflict only through belief entropy itself. To solve this problem, we comprehensively consider the influences of the belief entropy itself and mutual belief entropy on conflict measurement, and propose a novel approach based on an improved belief entropy and entropy distance. The improved belief entropy based on pignistic probability transformation function is named pignistic probability transformation (PPT) entropy that measures the conflict between evidences from the perspective of self-belief entropy. Compared with the state-of-the-art belief entropy, it can measure the uncertainty of evidence more accurately, and make full use of the intersection information of evidence to estimate the degree of evidence conflict more reasonably. Entropy distance is a new distance measurement method and is used to measure the conflict between evidences from the perspective of mutual belief entropy. Two measures are mutually complementary in a sense. The results of numerical examples and target recognition applications demonstrate that our proposed approach has a faster convergence speed, and a higher belief degree of the true target compared with the existing methods.

There are few options available for school managers who wish to effectively tackle school conflicts. The aim of the present work was to assess the issue of school conflict, its sources, and the effectiveness of different conflict management styles in Secondary Education school units in Greece. Teachers (n = 128) from twelve randomly selected schools in the region of Epirus, NW Greece, participated in the present work. Teachers’ views on their school Principals’ leadership style as well as the sources, the type(s), and the severity of conflict in their school unit were surveyed. Conflict appeared to be a frequent issue in schools. Frequent sources of conflict included interpersonal and organizational parameters. School leaders exhibited a range of conflict management styles. Compromise and Collaborative styles were frequently observed, followed by Smoothing and Forcing. Avoidance was less frequently exhibited by school leaders. The transformational and transactional leadership styles exhibited were equally effective in successful conflict resolution, whereas a laissez-faire leadership style was not. The results indicate that leadership and conflict management style can be associated with the effectiveness of conflict management.

Purpose. To establish integrated innovation management based on developing a corporate innovation base at industrial enterprises in the context of post-conflict transformation. Methodology. In the course of the works, the methods of theoretical generalization, comparison, synthesis, analysis were used to reveal the general principles and to determine the basic categories of the study. Findings. A model of the integrated innovation management approach at industrial enterprises is developed. In modern corporate structures, innovations are divided into groups according to their independent properties. The innovation management system, if it exists, is considered as an independent system that has its own set of goals which are not integrated into the goals of the corporation itself. The paper considers the goals of innovation management in an integrated structure as the implementation of the goals of a corporation, where innovation management processes are integrated horizontally and vertically according to business processes. Innovation management is based on three approaches: transfer, algorithmic and creative ones. Originality. The paper offers the authors methods for managing innovation by using the system of methodological approaches (algorithmic, transfer, creative managements), based on processes of innovation management at the industrial enterprises in the context of post-conflict transformation, which have been identified applying the mathematical models. The study has developed: - the authors approach to the formation of innovation management objectives at industrial enterprises in post-conflict transformation context, based on eight key spaces, with the identification of five groups of goals: financial, production, marketing, human resource management, and information support; - a system of innovation management objectives with a of innovation management task subsystem in the field of financial activities, production process, marketing, human resource management and information technology support. Practical value. The practical significance of the results is that they can be applied in corporate integration structures to increase economic efficiency, making a profit from introduction.

Purpose Based on the team conflict theory and organizational learning theory, this study aims to discuss the two different types of conflicts of the top management team (TMT) on the different mechanisms of exploratory learning behavior of firms, and, based on the perspective of CEO-TMT (CEO – chief executive officer) interface, the different moderating effects caused by different CEO leadership styles are clarified. Design/methodology/approach Using the sample of 193 firms’ samples with multi-source data, the authors take an empirical test of the theoretical framework. Findings The effect of task conflict on exploratory learning behavior was insignificant, and relationship conflict had a positive effect on exploratory learning behavior. However, when CEO’s transformational leadership level was high, or transactional leadership level was low, there existed “bathtub curve” relationship between task conflict and exploratory learning behavior, and the relationship conflict under these conditions strengthened exploratory learning behavior. When CEO’s transactional leadership level was high, or transformational leadership level was low, there existed the inverted U-shaped relationship between task conflict and exploratory learning behavior, and the relationship conflict under such conditions weakened exploratory learning behavior. Originality/value First, the authors challenge the assumption of linear mechanism of task conflict, trying to build the mechanism of curve hypothesis, and the nonlinear explanation might be able to integrate the inconsistent results in the existing literature. Second, according to the inconsistent results of relationship conflict in existing literature, this study takes perspective of the CEO-TMT and introduces CEO leadership behavior as a moderating variable to test the moderating effect of CEO leadership and clarifies the boundary conditions of TMT conflicts.

Evidence of how resilience factors mitigate the adverse effects of shocks on individuals, households and communities is clearly established. However, such evidence at the macro level is limited, especially on the pace of structural transformation. This paper explores whether the growing incidence of terrorism, armed conflicts and natural disasters in SSA impeded the pace of structural transformation. We conceptualize the notion of macro-resilience and test whether resilience factors mitigate the adverse effects of shocks on two measures of structural transformation: agriculture’s share of GDP and of national employment. We find that structural transformation is impeded by armed conflict and terrorism-related shocks but not natural disasters and that resilience factors enhance the pace of agricultural transformation. This implies that, while agriculture is often destroyed in conflict-affected areas, the broader impacts are even more negative for other sectors of the economy. However, surprisingly, we find negative or insignificant interaction terms between the shock and resilience variables, implying no mitigative role of resilience capacities. This may suggest, in the case of conflicts and terrorism, the presence of major, debilitating effects which limit the mitigative capacity of resilience factors. We further explore the implications for future research and possible strategies to address the growing threats from shocks.

Developing water technology and management systems is not sufficient to cope with the water shortage, where political decisions might be considered as a critical element in this context. The Euphrates–Tigris basin has been suffering for decades from political instability and mismanagement. The tension over the water allocation that was on the negotiating table since the 1960s ended with no substantial agreement between the riparian countries (Iraq, Turkey and Syria). The objective is to evaluate the impact of the political dimension by creating a conceptual model for the hydropolitical cycle, addressing the importance of the negotiation concepts to reach an agreement; the research also aims to develop a strategy that might support the transformation from conflict to collaboration. The approaches of situation map and systems thinking have been implemented to build the model. The tools of negotiation skills have been adopted to assist the water conflict. The results describe the challenges within different levels and demonstrating the hydropolitical cycle and adding a sustain toolkit to the theory of water conflict and transformation management. Moreover, the paper produces the structure and workflow of establishing the Global Water Security Council.
