Повний текст джерелаLn this thesis, we are interested in sorne statistical field theories in two dimensions, with non-local degrees of freedom. For example, polymers in a good solvant are described by such theories. One can try to turn these theories into local ones, but the price to pay is that we get negative or even complex Boltzmann weights: these theories are then non-unitary. We are interested in surface effects, and in finding out which boundary conditions are compatible with conformal invariance in these theories. Our strategy does not involve an axiomatic approach, but rather relies on concrete lattice models which have an interesting scaling limit. Ln these models, the configurations of the model are given in terms of geometrical objects that are non-local. Our results can be reformulated in the context of the (stochastic) Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE), which gives a description of these objects directly in the scaling limit. Ln sorne cases, the models we study can be considered as toy-models for logarithmic theories. Indeed, it should be easier to understand the algebraic structure which underlies a particular theory in the boundary case, because in the bulk theory the actions of the chiral and anti-chiral algebras are mixed. For example, it must be possible to extract universal parameters which caracterize the indecomposability of representations of the Virasoro algebra. Sorne other results in this thesis can be used to compute sorne universal quantities which appear at quantum critical points of 1+1D systems (e. G. Gapless spin chains), such as entanglement entropies or fidlities, in particular in finite-size systems

Lorsque les potentiels d'interaction sont harmoniques, nous donnons une interprétation géométrique de la condition d'existence et d'unicité de la mesure invariante via un théorème de complétude. Dans le cas où cette condition fait défaut, nous explicitons une quantité invariante par le flot hamiltonien. Nous généralisons ensuite les résultats d'unicité à des potentiels analytiques. Nous montrons que la condition de Hörmander est suffisante pour avoir l'unicité de la mesure invariante via la contrôlabilité. Le principe de Lasalle est ensuite utilisé pour montrer l'unicité sans la condition d'Hörmander. Nous évoquons également le problème de l'existence de telles mesures.

Повний текст джерелаWe consider several problems based on Herglotz’s generalized variational problem. We dedicate two chapters to extensions on Herglotz’s generalized variational problem to higher-order and first-order problems with time delay, using a variational approach. In the last four chapters, we rewrite Herglotz's type problems in the optimal control form and use an optimal control approach. We prove generalized higher- order Euler-Lagrange equations, first without and then with time delay; higher-order natural boundary conditions; Noether's first theorem for the first-order problem of Herglotz with time delay; Noether's first theorem for higher-order problems of Herglotz without and with time delay; and existence of Noether currents as a version of Noether's second theorem of optimal control.
Consideramos vários problemas com base no problema variacional generalizado de Herglotz. Dois capítulos são dedicados à extensão do problema variacional generalizado de Herglotz para ordem superior e para problemas de primeira ordem com atraso no tempo, utilizando uma abordagem variacional. Nos últimos quatro capítulos, reescrevemos os problemas de Herglotz na forma do controlo ótimo e usamos essa abordagem. Demonstramos equações generalizadas de Euler-Lagrange de ordem superior, inicialmente sem e depois com atraso no tempo; condições de fronteira de ordem superior; o primeiro teorema de Noether para o problema de Herglotz de primeira ordem com atraso no tempo; o primeiro teorema de Noether para problemas de ordem superior de Herglotz sem e com atraso no tempo; e a existência de leis de conservação de Noether numa versão do segundo teorema de Noether do controlo ótimo.

Повний текст джерелаIn this thesis, we study some symbolic-numeric aspects of the invariant pair problem for matrix polynomials. Invariant pairs extend the notion of eigenvalue-eigenvector pairs, providing a counterpart of invariant subspaces for the nonlinear case. They have applications in the numeric computation of several eigenvalues of a matrix polynomial; they also present an interest in the context of differential systems. Here, a contour integral formulation is applied to compute condition numbers and backward errors for invariant pairs. We then adapt the Sakurai-Sugiura moment method to the computation of invariant pairs, including some classes of problems that have multiple eigenvalues, and we analyze the behavior of the scalar and block versions of the method in presence of different multiplicity patterns. Results obtained via direct approaches may need to be refined numerically using an iterative method: here we study and compare two variants of Newton’s method applied to the invariant pair problem. The matrix solvent problem is closely related to invariant pairs. Therefore, we specialize our results on invariant pairs to the case of matrix solvents, thus obtaining formulations for the condition number and backward errors, and a moment-based computational approach. Furthermore, we investigate the relation between the matrix solvent problem and the triangularization of matrix polynomials

Повний текст джерелаVarious phenomena of matter can only be understood by probing its electronic structure. The latter can be interpreted in terms of electromagnetic properties, each property revealing a different piece of information. Having a reliable method to calculate such properties is thus of great importance. This thesis is to be regarded in this context. Our main goal was to develop a general method that gives access to a wide variety of electromagnetic properties. In the first part of this thesis, we describe the theoretical background with which we work, and in particular time-dependent current-density-functional theory (TDCDFT), which is a density-functional approach that can describe the response due to a magnetic field. The second part is dedicated to the method we developed in order to calculate various magnetic properties in a gauge-invariant manner. In particular, we show that by using a simple sum rule, we can put the diamagnetic and paramagnetic currents on equal footing. We thus avoid the usual problems that arise when calculating magnetic properties, such as the dependence on the gauge origin of the vector potential. We illustrate our method by applying it to the calculation of magnetizabilities and circular dichroism, which has important applications, notably in biology. In the last part, which is more explorative, we aim at extending our formalism to periodic systems. We discuss several strategies to calculate magnetization in systems described with periodic boundary conditions

Повний текст джерелаThis PhD thesis provides a numerical study of space trajectories in the Earth-Moon system when low-thrust is applied. Our computations are based on fundamental results from geometric control theory. The spacecraft's motion is modelled by the equations of the controlled restricted three-body problem. We focus on minimizing energy cost and transfer time. Optimal trajectories are found among a set of extremal curves, solutions of the Pontryagin's maximum principle, which can be computed solving a shooting equation thanks to a Newton algorithm. In this framework, initial conditions are found using homotopic methods or studying the linearized control system. We check local optimality of the trajectories using the second order optimality conditions related to the concept of conjugate points. In the case of the energy minimization problem, we also describe the principle of approximating Earth-Moon optimal transfers by concatening optimal keplerian trajectories around The Earth and the Moon and an energy-minimal solution of the linearized system in the neighbourhood of the equilibrium point L1

This dissertation concerns a novel approach of the invariance condition of mismatched uncertain variable structure systems in which the matched conditions or conventional invariance conditions are not satisfied. New invariance conditions are investigated in mismatched uncertain variable structure systems associated with a new sliding mode control, at the same time, retaining the benefits achieved in conventional variable structure systems design, namely, fast response, good robustness and stability. The main developments proposed in this dissertation are for both small-scale and large-scale systems. For a small-scale system, based on new equivalent state idea and two sets of switching surfaces, necessary and sufficient invariance conditions are derived such that matched and mismatched uncertainties completely vanish from the sliding mode dynamics. In terms of linear matrix inequalities, we give explicit formulas of linear switching surfaces to guarantee that the system in the new sliding mode is quadratically stable. A control law is also given to perform the new sliding mode. For a large-scale system, a new sliding mode that consists of two sets of switching surfaces is also proposed. In every subsystem, uncertainties and interconnections are all separated into matched and mismatched components to reduce the conservatism. As a result, new invariance conditions are derived such that each subsystem in the new sliding mode is completely invariant to both uncertainties and interconnections. We also show that these conditions are not only necessary but also sufficient. In addition, sufficient conditions are derived such that the equivalent reduced-order system in the new sliding mode is asymptotically stable within the framework of linear matrix inequalities. A decentralized controller is synthesized to assure stability of the overall system. In order to extend the effectiveness of the above variable structure control (VSC) scheme, total invariance to both matched and mismatched uncertainties in VSC systems associated with two sets of exponential-type switching surfaces is proposed. By nature of these surfaces, the reaching phase is eliminated to avoid the non-robustness associated with that phase. Simultaneously, the system state variables are not only confined to the new sliding mode from the initial time , but also invariant to matched and mismatched uncertainties from the initial state to the steady state. A simulation example is also provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach.

Повний текст джерелаIn this work, the conditional symmetry method is adapted in order to construct solutions expressed in terms of Riemann invariants. Nonelliptic quasilinear homogeneous systems of multidimensional partial differential equations of hydrodynamic type are considered. A detailed description of the necessary and sufficient conditions for the local existence of these types of solutions is given. The relationship between the structure of integral elements and the possibility of constructing certain classes of rank-k solutions is discussed. These classes of solutions include nonlinear superpositions of Riemann waves and multisolitonic solutions. This approach is generalized to first-order inhomogeneous hyperbolic quasilinear systems. These methods are applied to the equations describing an isentropic fluid flow in (3+1) dimensions. Several new classes of rank-2 and rank-3 solutions are obtained which contain double and triple solitonic solutions. New nonlinear and linear superpositions of Riemann waves are described. Finally, certain aspects of the construction of rank-2 solutions through an application to the dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation are discussed.

Повний текст джерелаTypische physikalische Systeme sind nicht geschlossen, sodass ihre innere Struktur mit Hilfe von Streuexperimenten untersucht werden kann. Diese werden mit Hilfe einer nicht-Hermiteschen Quantendynamik und deren Resonanzeigenzuständen beschrieben. Die dabei zugrunde liegende klassische Dynamik berücksichtigt den Verlust von Teilchen. Für die semiklassische Phasenraumverteilung solcher Resonanzeigenzustände in chaotischen Systemen mit partieller und voller Öffnung entwickeln wir eine universelle Beschreibung mittels bedingt invarianter Maße gleicher Zerfallsrate. Für partiellen Zerfall stellen wir eine Familie bedingt invarianter Maße mit beliebiger Zerfallsrate vor, welche auf der hyperbolischen Dynamik und den natürlichen Maßen der vorwärts gerichteten und der invertierten Dynamik aufbauen. Diese Maße erklären die multifraktale Phasenraumstruktur der Resonanzzustände und deren Abhängigkeit von der Zerfallsrate. Darüber hinaus motivieren wir für den nicht trivialen Grenzfall voll geöffneter Systeme die Hypothese, dass Resonanzeigenzustände durch ein bedingt invariantes Maß beschrieben werden, welches gleichverteilt auf solchen Mengen ist, die den gleichen zeitlichen Abstand zum quantenunscharfen chaotischen Sattel haben. Insgesamt bestätigen wir die quantenklassische Korrespondenz für die Phasenraumdichten, deren fraktale Dimensionen und durch Auswertung ihres Jensen–Shannon Abstandes in einer generischen chaotischen Abbildung sowohl für partielle als auch für volle Öffnung.

Повний текст джерелаThe ‘doing’ of gender in our society is constructed along the lines of power, knowledge and being. Power structures angle knowledge and understanding of transgender people and transgender lives in a way that relegates them almost to the museum to be observed as a spectacle or exotic objects. The emphatic frames of man and woman, even in South Africa where the Constitution is considered and understood to be liberal and generous, the life of a transgender body is an Other life. One is either male or female; any other form of doing and being gender suffers peripherisation and classification as special, different, strange or any other exteriorising definitions. This dissertation attempts to question the power or the tyranny of categorisations and classifications of man and woman, drawing from various discourses such as the medico-legal discourse classification. It further looks at how gender is being performed by transgender people. Further it aimed at gaining an in-depth understanding of the experiences and challenges of transgender people with regards to doing gender within a gendered society. The findings within the dissertation tells us, that the performativity of gender is not a neutral space, but enacted by various power structures and those who live outside the norms such as the transgender people, they are subjected to precariousness. It this dissertation seeks to contribute to an unmasking of some easy but harmful assumptions about gender and sexuality. Gender and sexuality may not be taken for granted and assumed according to fixed templates but they are fluid, mobile and flexible beyond the limits of convention.

Повний текст джерелаThe objects under consideration in this thesis are systems of first-order quasilinear equations. In the first part of the thesis, a study is made of an ideal plasticity model from the point of view of the classical Lie point symmetry group. Planar flows are investigated in both the stationary and non-stationary cases. Two new vector fields are obtained. They complete the Lie algebra of the stationary case, and the subalgebras are classified into conjugacy classes under the action of the group. In the non-stationary case, a classification of the Lie algebras admissible under the chosen force is performed. For each type of force, the vector fields are presented. For monogenic forces, the algebra is of the highest possible dimension. Its classification into conjugacy classes is made. The symmetry reduction method is used to obtain explicit and implicit solutions of several types. Some of them can be expressed in terms of one or two arbitrary functions of one variable. Others can be expressed in terms of Jacobi elliptic functions. Many solutions are interpreted physically in order to determine the shape of realistic extrusion dies. In the second part of the thesis, we examine solutions expressed in terms of Riemann invariants for first-order quasilinear systems. The generalized method of characteristics, along with a method based on conditional symmetries for Riemann invariants are extended so as to be applicable to systems in their elliptic regions. The applicability of the methods is illustrated by examples such as non-stationary ideal plasticity for an irrotational flow as well as fluid mechanics equations. A new approach is developed, based on the introduction of rotation matrices which satisfy certain algebraic conditions. It is directly applicable to non-homogeneous and non-autonomous systems. Its efficiency is illustrated by examples which include a system governing the non-linear superposition of waves and particles. The general solution is constructed in explicit form.
