This paper provides a conceptual elaboration of the role of Problem-based Learning (PBL) in the integration of social sciences and humanities (SSH) with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and an analysis of the challenges this brings about. SSH-STEM integration is an endeavor that is timely, relevant, and urgent given the insufficient answers that higher education provides to the challenges social science and (especially) humanity faces. PBL can be argued as a pedagogical model to naturally cater to this demand. Based on two cases of integrated study programs from Aalborg University, Denmark, we analyze and discuss challenges and potential pitfalls in integrating SSH and STEM. As a result, we pinpoint learnings that can serve as timely guides in future iterations of problem-based, inter- and transdisciplinary endeavors in higher education.

Os resultados demonstram que a integração logística não só reduz custos e otimiza recursos, mas também amplia o controle da cadeia de suprimentos, resultando em maior satisfação do cliente devido à agilidade na entrega. Esse estudo contribui para um entendimento mais aprofundado da importância estratégica da integração logística na gestão empresarial, oferecendo insights para a formulação de estratégias eficazes na otimização da cadeia de suprimentos e no aumento da competitividade organizacional, além de propor uma conceituação abrangente a partir da integração e atualização das conceituações dos autores revisados.

The relevance of the topic is connected with the urgent need in modern socio-political realities to use integrative technological tools in solving educational problems. According to the message of the President of the Russian Federation to the Federal Assembly on February 21, 2023, “a synthesis of all the best that was in the Soviet education system and the experience of recent decades is necessary”. Higher education teachers have been given serious goals to develop effective practices for integrating new regions of the Russian Federation into the cultural and educational space of Russia. Integration is the process and result of the formation of integrity, which plays a priority role in relation to its parts. The emergence of integration is closely related to the need to satisfy the fundamental human need to inherit the experience of previous generations, and subsequently transfer it, which is the mechanism of pedagogical activity: the integration of the experience of generations and the integration of pedagogical and production activities. In the article, the author examines the definition of the main research term; relies on the classification of sources for studying integration processes in pedagogy proposed by Professor N.K. Chapaev; the analysis of modern integrative pedagogical concepts is carried out. In these rapidly developing times, we need specialists who are open to interaction and ready to integrate professionals from seemingly completely different areas into their specific activities: integration becomes the basis for the development of the educational sphere.

A systematic review of literature on the relationship between supply chain integration (SCI) and firm performance shows inconsistency in the results. Some of the studies show a direct relationship between SCI and firm performance, while other shows no significant relationship between these constructs. Further, there is a stream of research which proved that the relationship between SCI and performance is mediated through some intermediate performance outcomes. Based on the gaps identified through an extensive literature review, this study proposes that three dimensions of SCI- supplier integration, customer integration and internal integration will lead to different performance outcomes which will further influence financial performance of the firm. Further, a conceptual framework is presented postulating the relationship between constructs of interest.

The research method is in the form of deductive and inductive reasoning accompanied by descriptive and comparative analysis, where this article provides an explanation of research studies on sustainability accounting from a theoretical and practical point of view based on research sourced from the web of science database from a period of time. time 2000 – 2020. The results of this research describe sustainability accounting which is carried out based on accounting theorization and describes the conceptual framework in scientific development in the field of accounting. The conceptual framework approach of sustainability accounting is able to complement the space shown in research based on accounting theorization. The aim of the sustainability accounting conceptual framework approach is to propose a structure, assumptions and objectives to ensure that stakeholders and external stakeholders have credible information on sustainable development performance.The findings of this research are in the form of a proposed conceptual framework as a basic element of a schematic approach to the integration of sustainability accounting objectives which is able to describe accounting tasks in an accountability system.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop the role of integration flexibility as a mediator of acquisition performance and demonstrate how this capability varies across firms. Design/methodology/approach The study develops a conceptual framework of anticipated relationships by building on existing but so far unintegrated acquisition research. Findings The study suggests integration flexibility provides an explanation for variance in acquisition performance. The study identifies drivers behind acquisition integration flexibility in acquirer characteristics, deal characteristics and integration management. The authors further specify the positive and negative impact of several key factors commonly discussed in acquisition research. Research limitations/implications Integration flexibility stands out as a novel explanation for acquisition performance. Still, the benefits from flexibility are not universal and developed logic suggests it represents a dynamic capability for acquirers. Our framework helps predict which acquirers and deals are more likely demonstrating this capability, thus contributing to predict acquisition performance. Practical implications Acquisitions often take place in dynamic environments and reportedly often fail. Predicting and developing acquisition integration flexibility stands out as an important task for acquiring management. Social implications Annual global acquisition values are on par with the GDP of large industrial nations (e.g. Germany) and failures for reasons of lacking acquisition integration flexibility contributes to value destruction harming not only firms, but society at large. Improved integration flexibility likely mediates this risk. Originality/value Making an acquisition to adapt to environmental change implicitly assumes greater integration that can limit flexibility. While our argument builds on key concepts from acquisition research these so far have remained unconnected in relation to acquisition integration flexibility. The authors develop factors influencing this important capability and show how it mediates acquisition performance. This links acquisition antecedents with integration or phases typically treated separately.

Past intrapreneurship research has mainly focused on a firm internal environment and its beneficial and impeding effects on intrapreneurship. This study extends previous theory of intrapreneurship by recognizing that intra-firm-based organizational processes need to be complemented by inter-firm processes. Propositions are developed highlighting relationships between intrapreneurship and its predictors. The following organizational characteristics that influence intrapreneurship are proposed: intra-firm and inter-firm communication, formal controls and trust, organizational support and values, environmental scanning, and network characteristics.

Under the framework of the anthropocentric paradigm, the research fields in linguistics have taken a radical turn and enlarged their scope as well as areas of investigation. The study of human factors influencing language usage is being held from different perspectives and along with traditional methods of analysis, newly emerging research methods are being applied in linguistic explorations as well. One of such language means which has been a subject to a line of scientific studies is allusion and it has been under the spotlight of such disciplines as stylistics, text linguistics, cognitive linguistics, linguopragmatics and cultural linguistics. The focus on allusions as a figurative means of language used to indirectly refer to a person, object, place or event has been switched onto the other issues which are entailing the consideration of wider scale approaches to the analysis of this stylistic device. This article sheds light on the religiously marked allusions, their denotation, functions, conceptual significance in the literary text and ways of analyzing and interpreting them from the perspectives of cognitive linguistics. To reveal the conceptual significance of religiously marked allusions in the literary text, the cognitive mechanism of conceptual blending is implemented in the research. According to the results of the analysis, allusions obtain new conceptual senses by activating a specific event, object, or personage anew in the text and the blending theory can effectively be applied in decoding the implicit message conveyed by allusions.

This study focuses on exploring pre-service science teachers’ conceptual integration understandings in explaining the subject of metabolism with the concepts of physics and chemistry. Action research was employed in this study. Nine pre-service science teachers taking the General Biology II course participated. Participants were taught metabolism considering conceptual integration. Data were collected via paper-and-pencil questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The results showed that the pre-service science teachers could not understand physics and chemistry concepts at a sufficient level while explaining metabolism. Although the activities and practices were executed for conceptual integration in the action plan, only three participants achieved complete conceptual understanding for better conceptual integration at the end of the course in the first question. Thus, future studies could design interventions to be effective in conceptual integration. Further research could also design experimental investigations to examine how conceptual integration is necessary for establishing the relationship between science and other fields.

Attempts to conceptualize the integration of migrants in society regularly face criticism within the academic community; the term integration does not have a generally accepted definition. The article offers an analysis of Russian migrants integration policy. The purpose of the study is to clarify the meaning of the term integration, as well as to compare integration theories with practical measures of immigrant integration. The authors define the concept of integration, explore its conceptual foundations, and shed light on some contradictions of its use in political discourse and scientific literature. The concept of integration is defined as the inclusion of an individual in a certain host community’s social ties structure. Using the content analysis method, the article considers the place of integration concept in the fundamental documents of the Russian immigration policy. The authors conclude that the Russian integration policy has its faults. There is a gap between the integration policy and the realities of the migrants' existence, which prevents the effective inclusion of migrants in Russian society. The purpose of this paper is to develop a comprehensive rationale for integrating technology with social studies instruction. Five traditional principals of powerful teaching and learning in the social studies are utilized as a conceptual framework to examine the research literature in social studies. Explanations and instructional integration issues are provided for each of the five principles. Results from this comprehensive rationale mesh the literature of technology with the realities of promoting student understanding and civic empowerment.

Reading comprehension is an essential interdisciplinary skill that serves as a foundation of all other subject areas. In science, as a subject rich in vocabulary words, the learner's ability to read and comprehend to generate a conceptual understanding cannot be set aside. Thus, integrating literacy strategies such as vocabulary instruction strategies in teaching the subject is of great help to the learners. This quasi-experimental research determined the effect of integrating explicit vocabulary instruction strategy in the conceptual understanding of students in science. Forty-four students served as participants in this research. Inquiry-based approach, particularly the Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate Learning Cycle (5 E’s) was utilized in teaching the control group. While in the experimental group, the same strategy was employed, but with the integration of vocabulary instruction strategies. T-test was used in determining the significant difference in the performances of the two groups. The findings reveal that the students who were taught with the integration of explicit vocabulary instruction strategy performed better than the students who did not undergo vocabulary instruction. This suggests that the integration of the explicit vocabulary instruction strategy in teaching science enhances the conceptual understanding of the students in the subject. Thus, it is recommended that science teachers who are trained as content specialists should consider integrating explicit vocabulary instruction strategies in teaching to address the literacy needs of the students.

There is a lack of systematic guidance in integrating ML into business applications. Conceptual modelling techniques have been used widely to analyze and enhance information systems. This paper outlines how conceptual modelling can be used to help organizations design their processes in order to fit their different needs when integrating ML into business applications. We identify the characteristics and challenges of ML as well as demonstrate how conceptual modelling can be applied to enhance ML integration processes and assist them in meeting these challenges.

This systematic review answers three main research questions: 1) What is the array of conceptual definitions of faith and spirituality integration in social work education; 2) Are there theological, and or, denominational orientations influencing the definitions, and integration, of faith and spirituality in social work education? and; 3) What are the available pedagogical models for integrating faith and spirituality into social work education? A conclusion is presented with implications for pedagogy, research, and policy in Christian social work programs

The article deals with the mechanism of creating metaphor in the context of the theory of conceptual integration. A particular emphasis is laid on the basic theses of the theory of conceptual metaphor and the theory of conceptual integration. The comparison of G. Lakoff and M. Johnson’s theory of conceptual metaphor and G. Fauconnier and M. Turner’s theory of conceptual integration is carried out. The analysis of the examples of metaphorical mapping of the concept BOOK is conducted and three conceptual metaphors of the given concept (the target domain) are defined. Each conceptual metaphor is described, the input spaces, generic and blended spaces are defined. The integrated roles and emergent properties and structures are determined and explained.

The management of landscape planning projects necessitates a high level of intuition due to their dynamic nature, complexity, and vast context; for this reason, risk management should be incorporated into project management as a unified process. Insufficient evaluations of the integration of risk procedures in landscape planning projects necessitate the development of an integration concept that will allow project practitioners to apply it effectively. This study aims to develop a conceptual framework integrating the risk process into the project lifecycle for the practitioner's benefit in practising the risk process effectively. A literature review is conducted to evaluate the idea, identify a concept incorporating the risk process into the project lifecycle, and formulate the conceptual framework. The concept suggests three risk process aspects for effective integration: completeness, process activity planning, and process activity flow. To improve risk management practices and achieve national sustainable landscape planning, a conceptual framework helps the project to manage project risks as planned, complete, and timely activities specified.

The paper is devoted to the methodological tasks of conducting transdisciplinary research of TI, that have been leading to the tasks of integrating the knowledge of various stakeholders. The methodological framework of the study includes a systematic approach, the provisions of knowledge engineering and social psychology. The methodological basis of TI is formulated, the essence of which is the identification, coordination and integration of individual and collective structures of knowledge. The requirements to the procedure of knowledge integration of different stakeholders are defined: to form an understanding of the complexity of problems, to take into account the diversity of the real world and scientific perception of problems, the link of abstract and specific knowledge of a particular situation, the use of the concept of the common good as a regulatory basis for harmonizing multiple values and norms. Conceptual models are considered as an integration tool. The theoretical and practical significance of the study lies in the rationale for the application of methods of joint conceptual modeling as a tool for integration and coordination of various types of knowledge and organization of communication processes in a stakeholders group.

This paper presents a conceptual framework aimed at exploring the connections between integration within the food supply chain and the three pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social. The analysis combines theoretical insights with empirical research, specifically focusing on the economic aspect of sustainability, measured through efficiency. The study emphasizes the critical role of integrating participants across the food supply chain to achieve sustainability goals. It discusses methodologies for assessing integration levels within the chain, providing a theoretical and analytical basis for modeling integration and efficiency within the supply chain. To empirically validate these relationships, an extended stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) method was applied to selected sectors within the food processing industry. The results demonstrate that enhancing integration with suppliers and buyers can significantly improve efficiency within the food chain. In conclusion, through deductive reasoning, this study asserts that integration plays a pivotal role in advancing economic sustainability objectives within the food sector. This framework contributes to a deeper understanding of how integration influences sustainability outcomes, offering valuable insights for stakeholders aiming to enhance sustainability in food systems.
