Анотація:
The stages, methodology and complex design tools of electromechanical systems with inductions motors are substantiated. A quantitative assessment of the possibilities of increasing their economic efficiency using complex design according to the criterion of maximum income is provided. The expressions of complex criteria of efficiency, complex mathematical models and research methods are substantiated. The change in economic efficiency is determined when the value of design parameters deviates from the optimal value. Using the developed means of complex design can increase economic efficiency by tens of percent is shown. References 22, table 1, figures 2.

Анотація:
This article evaluates the performance of expected value and expected value-variance criteria in achieving risk efficiency in crop selection. Results indicate that the expected returns criterion achieves risk efficiency in many situations because of constraints. However, in the absence of many constraints the expected returns criterion performs poorly except when highly mean-dominant activities are present. The expected value-variance criterion achieves a high degree of risk efficiency for all situations examined. This result implies that criteria more complex than expected value-variance are not necessary for crop selection analysis, given empirical returns distributions.

Context. High-performance computing systems are needed to solve many scientific problems and to work with complex applied problems. Previously, real parallel data processing was supported only by supercomputers, which are very limited and difficult to access. Currently, one way to solve this problem is to build small, cheap clusters based on single-board computers Raspberry Pi. Objective. The goal of the work is the creation of a complex criterion for the efficiency of the cluster system, which could properly characterize the operation of such a system and find the dependences of the performance of the cluster system based on Raspberry Pi 3B+ on the number of boards in it with different cooling systems. Method. It is offered to apply in the analysis of small cluster computer systems the complex criterion of efficiency of work of cluster system which will consider the general productivity of cluster computer system, productivity of one computing element in cluster computer system, electricity consumption by cluster system, electricity consumption per one computing element, the cost of calculating 1 Gflops cluster computer system, the total cost of the cluster computer system. Results. The developed complex criterion of cluster system efficiency was used to create an experimental cluster system based on single-board computers Raspberry Pi 3B+. Mathematical models of the dependence of the performance of a small cluster system based on single-board computers Raspberry Pi 3B+ depending on the number of boards in it with different cooling systems have also been developed. Conclusions. The conducted experiments confirmed the expediency of using the developed complex criterion of efficiency of the cluster system and allow to recommend it for use in practice when creating small cluster systems. Prospects for further research are to determine the weights of the constituent elements of the complex criterion of efficiency of the cluster system, as well as in the experimental study of the proposed weights.

The technical means use effectiveness comprehensive assessment method that combine several operations for Sudan grass harvesting for seeds and fodder for cattle is proposed. The methodology includes the following stages: the choice of factors affecting the technical means use efficiency; the substantiation of particular performance indicators, selected from the set of possible ones according to their relative importance; the selection of the mathematical dependence of the effectiveness complex criterion; the effectiveness complex criterion evaluation and the analysis of the compared technical means effectiveness.

The existing regulatory and methodological documents are used as a regulatory framework for the quantitative assessment of economic and environmental effects and damages. As a criteri-on for the overall effectiveness of various scenarios for the development of complex reclamation of the Vol-ga-Akhtuba floodplain, a single criterion is used – the value of net discounted income (BPD).

Introduction. Solving the problem of harvesting broom corn (Sorghum vulgare var. technicum) with minimal expenditure of labor and resources, and high quality is possible through improving existing or developing new processes and equipment for harvesting. At the same time, the proposed new processes and equipment should ensure the reduction or complete elimination of the share of manual labor. The purpose of the work is to improve the process for harvesting of broom corn based on a complex performance criterion. Materials and Methods. The methodological basis for choosing an effective process for harvesting broom corn was the theory of efficiency of technical systems. According to it, the latter is estimated using the value of a complex criterion that includes a set of particular indicators and their relative importance. Results. It is proposed to evaluate the efficiency of the broom corn harvesting process according to a complex criterion that takes into account particular indicators and their relative importance. A developed process for harvesting broom corn includes: threshing of standing broom corn in the direct flow offset threshing chamber of a combine harvester with simultaneous mowing of the threshed plants using the combine harvester thresher; collecting the threshed and mown plants in the tractor trailer and the threshed grain in the hopper; transportation of threshed and cut plants to the place of storage; and stacking of threshed plants with drying them using active ventilation. Based on experimental studies, the values of all the studied particular indicators and their coefficients of relative importance were determined; a comprehensive performance criterion for the existing process for broom corn harvesting and the proposed process was calculated. Discussion and Conclusion. The calculated values of coefficients K* 1 and K* 2 for the existing and proposed processes for harvesting broom corn were used to determine the complex performance criterion, which is φ(Wi) = 15.54 for the existing process and φ(Wi) = 2588.75 for the proposed one respectively. According to the complex criterion, the proposed harvesting process is more efficient than that currently used more than 160 times.

Introduction. Provision of sustainable development requires efficiency in the management of public financial resources. Every year the number of detected financial irregularities supervisory authorities increases. Reduce the amount of possible financial irregularities by increasing the efficiency of budgetary control. The main purpose of the scientific research is to evaluate the efficiency of budgetary control in Ukraine. Results.The effectiveness of budgetary control is a complex economic category .It is characterized by certain criteria and depends on many parameters and factors. In assessing the effectiveness of budgetary control and the development of practical methods of calculation and formation performance criteria should take into account not only the economic component but also various other components efficiency. Monitoring the effectiveness of budgetary control carried out according to certain criteria by examining different interrelated indicators. In our opinion, the most thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of budgetary control are the following criteria: performance criteria, the criterion of concentration, structuring criterion, criterion validity, criterion dynamism. Conclusion. The introduction of a single integrated system of indicators to assess the effectiveness of budgetary control will help assess the achievement of goals to improve the efficiency of budget resources of the state through a set of criteria: performance, concentration, structuring, efficiency and agility. Using the general method facilitate assessment of the effectiveness of public spending as between different supervisory authorities and between the different territorial units of those bodies.

Анотація:
This paper presents a novel methodology for evaluating spatial straightness error based on the minimum zone criterion. Spatial straightness evaluation is formulated as a linear complex Chebyshev approximation problem, and then reformulated as a semi-infinite linear programming problem. Both models for the primal and dual programs are developed. An efficient simplex-based algorithm is employed to solve the dual linear program to yield the straightness value. Also a general algebraic criterion for checking the optimality of the solution is proposed. Numerical experiments are given to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the presented algorithm.

Харків, 2020 р. Дисертаційна робота присвячена удосконаленню лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів за рахунок мультиякірних конфігурацій. Для досягнення цієї мети були поставлені задачі: – провести аналіз конструкцій та сфер використання лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів індукційного, електродинамічного і електромагнітного типів в якості ударно-силових та прискорювальних пристроїв; – реалізувати в програмному середовищі COMSOL Multiphysics математичну модель лінійного імпульсного електромеханічного перетворювача мультиякірної конфігурації, яка враховує взаємопов’язані електричні, магнітні, механічні і теплові процеси та нелінійні магнітні і теплофізичні залежності; – провести аналіз електромеханічних характеристик лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів мультиякірних конфігурацій та за допомогою комплексного критерію оцінити їх ефективність; – встановити вплив форми струму збудження на ефективність лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів мультиякірних конфігурацій; – провести експериментальні дослідження лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів, запропонувати та випробувати моделі електромагнітної катапульти для безпілотного літального апарату, магнітно-імпульсного пресу для керамічних порошкових матеріалів, електромеханічного пристрою для скидання ожеледних та снігових відкладень з проводу лінії електропередачі та пристрою для знищення інформації на SSD накопичувачі. Об’єкт дослідження – електромеханічні процеси та показники лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів мультиякірних конфігурацій. Предмет дослідження – лінійні імпульсні електромеханічні перетворювачі мультиякірних конфігурацій силового та швидкісного призначення. Методи дослідження. При розв’язанні поставлених задач використовувалось математичне моделювання електромагнітних, механічних та теплофізичних процесів в лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачах імпульсної дії для проведення аналізу електромеханічних характеристик та встановлення впливу форми струму збудження на ефективність перетворювачів. Експериментальні дослідження лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів мультиякірної конфігурації проводились на експериментальних стендах, що дозволило випробувати моделі пристроїв. В роботі отримані такі наукові результати: – отримала подальший розвиток класифікація лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів мультиякірних конфігурацій, які включають феромагнітний, котушковий та суцільний електропровідний якоря; – удосконалено математичну модель лінійного імпульсного електромеханічного перетворювача за рахунок включення феромагнітного, котушкового та суцільного електропровідного якорів, які взаємодіють з рухомим якорем. Математична модель, яка реалізована в програмному середовищі COMSOL Multiphysics, містить взаємопов’язані електричні, магнітні, механічні та теплові процеси і враховує магнітні та теплофізичні нелінійні залежності; – вперше встановлено особливості протікання електромагнітних процесів та визначено електричні, магнітні та силові показники лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів мультиякірних конфігурацій силового призначення. Показано що практично всі перетворювачі мультиякірних конфігурацій забезпечують збільшення амплітуди та величини імпульсу електродинамічних зусиль у порівнянні з перетворювачем, що має один суцільний електропровідний якір; – вперше встановлено вплив геометричних параметрів рухомого і нерухомого електропровідних якорів, які взаємодіють з рухомим індуктором, що дозволило підвищити швидкісні показники лінійного імпульсного електромеханічного перетворювача; – вперше встановлено, що при збуджені коливально-загасаючою, аперіодичною та аперіодичною з підживленням формами струму в перетворювачах мультиякірних конфігурацій величина імпульсу електродинамічних зусиль збільшується у порівнянні з перетворювачем, що має один суцільний електропровідний якір. Дисертаційна робота виконана в НТУ "ХПІ" і є частиною науково-дослідних робіт кафедри загальної електротехніки. The dissertation work is devoted to the improvement of linear pulse electromechanical converters due to multi - core configurations. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set: – to analyze the structures and areas of use of linear pulse electromechanical converters of induction, electrodynamics and electromagnetic types as shockpower and accelerating devices; – to implement in the COMSOL Multiphysics software environment a mathematical model of a linear pulse electromechanical converter of multi-core configuration, which takes into account the interconnected electrical, magnetic, mechanical and thermal processes and nonlinear magnetic and thermophysical dependences; – to analyze the electromechanical characteristics of linear pulse electromechanical converters of multicore configurations and to evaluate their efficiency with the help of a complex criterion; – to establish the influence of the shape of the excitation current on the efficiency of linear pulse electromechanical transducers of multicore configurations; – to conduct experimental studies of linear pulse electromechanical transducers, to propose and test models of electromagnetic catapult for unmanned aerial vehicle, magnetic pulse press for ceramic powder materials, electromechanical device for discharging ice and snow deposits from the transmission line wire and transmission line. Object of research – electromechanical processes and indicators of linear pulse electromechanical converters of multicore configurations. Subject of research – linear pulse electromechanical converters of multicore configurations of power and speed purpose. Research methods. Mathematical modeling of electromagnetic, mechanical and thermophysical processes in linear pulse electromechanical converters of pulse action was used to solve the tasks to analyze the electromechanical characteristics and establish the influence of the shape of the excitation current on the efficiency of the converters. Experimental studies of linear pulse electromechanical transducers of multicore configuration were performed on experimental stands, which allowed to test device models. The following scientific results are obtained in the work: – the classification of linear pulse electromechanical converters of multicore configurations, which include ferromagnetic, coil and continuous conductive armature, was further developed; – the mathematical model of the linear pulse electromechanical converter due to inclusion of the ferromagnetic, coil and continuous electrically conductive anchors which interact with a mobile anchor is improved. The mathematical model, which is implemented in the COMSOL Multiphysics software environment, contains interconnected electrical, magnetic, mechanical and thermal processes and takes into account magnetic and thermophysical nonlinear dependencies; – for the first time the peculiarities of the course of electromagnetic processes are established and the electrical, magnetic and power indicators of linear pulse electromechanical converters of multi-core configurations of power purpose are determined. It is shown that almost all converters of multi-arc configurations provide an increase in the amplitude and magnitude of the pulse of electrodynamics forces in comparison with the converter, which has one continuous conductive armature; – for the first time the influence of geometrical parameters of movable and fixed electrically conductive armatures that interact with the movable inductor was established, which allowed to increase the speed indicators of the linear pulse electromechanical converter; – for the first time it is established that when excited by oscillatingattenuating, aperiodic and aperiodic with feeding forms of current in converters of multicore configurations the magnitude of the electrodynamics force pulse increases in comparison with the converter having one continuous electrically conductive armature. The dissertation work was performed at the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" and is part of the research work of the Department of General Electrical Engineering. Харків, 2020 р. Дисертаційна робота присвячена удосконаленню лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів силового та швидкісного призначення за рахунок використання декількох якорів, що взаємодіють з обмоткою індуктора. В дисертаційній роботі проведено аналіз конструкцій та сфер використання лінійних імпульсних електромеханічних перетворювачів індукційного, електромагнітного та електродинамічного типів в якості ударно-силових та прискорювальних пристроїв. Реалізовано в програмному середовищі COMSOL Multiphysics математичну модель лінійного імпульсного електромеханічного перетворювача мультиякірної конфігурації, яка враховує взаємопов’язані електричні, магнітні, механічні і теплові процеси, нелінійні магнітні та теплофізичні залежності. Розроблено класифікацію електромеханічних перетворювачів, які включають феромагнітний, котушковий та суцільний електропровідний якоря. Встановлено особливості протікання електромагнітних процесів та визначені електричні, магнітні та силові показники електромеханічних мультиякірних конфігурацій. Запропоновано комплексний критерій оцінювання ефективності, за допомогою якого проведено порівняльний аналіз перетворювачів мультиякірних конфігурацій з перетворювачами, що мають один якір. Встановлено вплив форми струму збудження на ефективність перетворювачів мультиякірних конфігурацій. Проведено експериментальні дослідження електромеханічних перетворювачів силового та швидкісного призначення з одночасним вимірюванням електричних, магнітних механічних та теплових параметрів. На базі електромеханічних перетворювачів мультиякірних конфігурацій розроблено оригінальні конструкції та випробувано моделі електромагнітної катапульти для БПЛА, магнітно-імпульсного пресу для керамічних порошкових матеріалів, електромеханічного пристрою для скидання ожеледних і снігових відкладень з проводу лінії електропередачі та пристрою для знищення інформації на твердотільному цифровому SSD накопичувачі.
The dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in the specialty 05.09.01 “Electric machines and apparatus” (14 - Electrical Engineering) - National Technical University “Kharkov Polytechnic Institute”, Kharkov, 2020. The dissertation is devoted to the improvement of linear pulsed electromechanical converters due to multi-dia configurations. In the dissertation work the analysis of designs and spheres of use of linear pulse electromechanical converters of induction, electromagnetic and electrodynamic type as shock-power and accelerating devices is carried out. Developed and implemented in the COMSOL Multiphysics software environment, a mathematical model of linear pulse electromechanical converters multi-core configuration, which takes into account the interconnected electrical, magnetic, mechanical and thermal processes, nonlinear magnetic and thermophysical dependences. The classification of electromechanical converters which includes ferromagnetic, coil and massive electrically conductive anchors is developed. The peculiarities of the course of electromagnetic processes are established and the electrical, magnetic and power indicators of electromechanical converters of multi-core configurations are determined. A complex criterion for evaluating the efficiency is proposed, by means of which a comparative analysis of electromechanical converters of multicore configurations with electromechanical converters having one anchor is carried out. The influence of the form of excitation current on the efficiency of electromechanical converters of multicore configurations is established. The method is developed and experimental researches of electromechanical converters of power and speed appointment with simultaneous measurement of electric, mechanical and thermal parameters are carried out. On the basis of electromechanical converters multi-core configurations, original designs of electromagnetic catapult models for UAVs, magnetic-pulse press for ceramic powder materials and electromechanical device for discharge of ice and snow deposits from the power line wire were developed and tested.

In modern conditions, an integrated quality management system (ISMC) that meets the requirements of several international standards and contributes to improving the efficiency of enterprise management, creating conditions for its sustainable development, as well as the competitiveness of the enterprise and its products is becoming more and more popular. The monograph considers theoretical and methodological approaches to quality management at the enterprise. The relevance of the application of an integrated quality management system, including at the enterprises of the military-industrial complex (MIC), consisting in the most effective management of the enterprise, energy efficiency and resource conservation, is justified. The assessment of the use of quality management tools at the defense industry enterprises was carried out, the trends in the development of defense industry enterprises were substantiated, a marketing approach was applied to the classification of defense industry enterprises, in particular by market type, which allows identifying potential consumers of enterprises ' products, the degree of production diversification. Organizational and economic approaches to the formation of an integrated quality management system are presented. The procedure for creating an ISMC is considered. The methodology and criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of ISMC are substantiated. The presented material is of practical importance and can be useful to specialists in quality management, graduate students, researchers, teachers.

AbstractResearch about indoor comfort in future years will increasingly be guided by the pressing need for decarbonizing the built environment due to climate change. Health, efficiency, and satisfaction of work and the feeling of comfort are largely determined by the interior criteria. The sustainable indoor environment is a result of complex factors: air conditioning (ventilation), indoor temperature, heating methods, lighting, and acoustic. This chapter explores and analyzes climatic, cultural, and behavioral factors that play an important role and have an influence on technology for an indoor regenerative environment. This chapter is based on an explorative literature review and reflects indoor environmental quality, users’ expectations, and users’ behavior from the perspective of different scientific disciplines. Current standards are based on a rational approach to thermal comfort, and indicators are determined on the measured subjects’ reactions during stabilized conditions in climatic chambers. It is concluded from these results that people in different environmental conditions react similarly to everyday life. Nevertheless, survey results suggest that achieving the optimal level of the indoor environment is possible when climatic, cultural, and social context is taken into account.

AbstractThe exploration of complex physical or technological processes usually requires exploiting available information from different sources: (i) physical laws often represented as a family of parameter dependent partial differential equations and (ii) data provided by measurement devices or sensors. The amount of sensors is typically limited and data acquisition may be expensive and in some cases even harmful. This article reviews some recent developments for this “small-data” scenario where inversion is strongly aggravated by the typically large parametric dimensionality. The proposed concepts may be viewed as exploring alternatives to Bayesian inversion in favor of more deterministic accuracy quantification related to the required computational complexity. We discuss optimality criteria which delineate intrinsic information limits, and highlight the role of reduced models for developing efficient computational strategies. In particular, the need to adapt the reduced models—not to a specific (possibly noisy) data set but rather to the sensor system—is a central theme. This, in turn, is facilitated by exploiting geometric perspectives based on proper stable variational formulations of the continuous model.

The mode of operation of induction motors (IMs) affects their performance. In most cases, motors are optimally designed for steady state operation. When operating in other modes, additional attention is required to the problems of energy efficiency. Induction motors are the most common type of electromechanical energy converters, and a significant part of them operate under conditions of periodic changes in the load torque. The work is devoted to solving the problem of increasing the energy efficiency of asynchronous motors of electromechanical systems with a periodic load, including pumping and compressor equipment. The traditional solution to this problem for compressor equipment is the optimal design of an IM under static conditions, as well as the use of flywheels, the use of an IM with an increased slip value and controlled IM with a squirrel-cage rotor and with frequency converters. In this work, the modes of operation of asynchronous motors with periodic loading are investigated. For this, complex mathematical models are developed in the simulation system. Such models are effective in modeling taking into account periodic load changes: repetitive transient processes, their possible asymmetry and non-sinusoidality, increased influence of nonlinearity of electromagnetic parameters. In complex mathematical modeling, the mutual influence of the constituent parts of the electromechanical system is taken into account. Simulation allowed quantifying the deterioration in energy efficiency under intermittent loading, in comparison with static modes. Criteria for evaluating quasi-static modes have been developed and areas of critical decrease in efficiency have been determined. The paper proposes and demonstrates a methodology for solving this problem. For this purpose, tools have been created for the optimal design of asynchronous motors as part of electromechanical systems with periodic loading. These tools include: complex mathematical models of electromechanical systems with asynchronous motors with periodic load, mathematical tools for determining the parameters of quasi-steady-state modes, the methodology of optimal design based on the criterion of the maximum efficiency of processes under quasi-steady-state modes of operation. The possibilities, advantages and prospects of using the developed mathemati-cal apparatus for solving a number of problems to improve the efficiency of electric drives of compressor and pumping equipment are demonstrated. It is shown that by taking into account quasi-static processes, the use of complex mathematical models for the optimal design of asynchronous motors with a periodic load provides an in-crease in efficiency up to 8 ... 10%, relative to the indicators of motors that are de-signed without taking into account the quasi-static modes. The areas of intense quasi-steady-state modes are determined using the devel-oped criterion. In these areas, there is a critical decrease in efficiency compared to continuous load operation. A decrease in efficiency is associated with a decrease in the amount of kinetic energy of the rotating parts compared to the amount of electromagnetic energy. In connection with the development of a frequency-controlled asynchronous drive of mechanisms with a periodic load, the relevance of design taking into account the peculiarities of quasi-static has increased significantly. For example, a variable frequency drive of a refrigerator compressor or a heat pump can increase energy efficiency up to 40%, but at low speeds, due to a decrease in kinetic energy, the efficiency can decrease to 10 ... 15%, unless a special design methodology is applied. This problem can be solved by using the complex mathematical modeling tools developed in the article.

The design of an adaptive network electronic educational and methodological complex – a universal educational resource that is able to support the learning process at all its stages-contains three consecutive stages (levels) – didactic, logical and physical, each of which has a content component of the developer's activity that determines the requirements for the structure and content of the created course. The methodological approaches to the use of an adaptive network course in the educational process are different for teachers and students. As criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of learning content assimilation in the information and communication educational environment of the university, the following are defined: transient process time response, which a student spends for learning of fixed stream of input information until prepared for the testing (E.A. Solodova's adaptive learning mathematical model); the level of assimilation of the information received, defined in tests and evaluated in a 100-point scale (as the condition of completeness of the educational process, according to V.P. Bespalko).

This is the first research article that attempts to relate public service to managing an organization and explains systems with realistic yet simplistic examples. This article is the first of its kind to relate public service to managing organizations that relate public service such as parks and police. It measures and implements maximin value functions. A maximin value function applies when the criteria are totally non-substitutable: a decrease in a critical criterion cannot be compensated for by an increase in another criterion. This article illustrates situations where a maximin value function is an appropriate model, develops a method to measure a decision maker's maximin value function, and demonstrates how a maximin value function can be used in applications such as park and police systems. The measurement technique is easy to understand and most decision makers can complete the process in a short period of time. For quantitative scheduling techniques found in journals, their wider use in applications has been declining due to a variety of obstacles. This article will first list a number of these obstacles and then suggest ways to overcome them. Parks and Police departments are government agencies that both have limited and competing resources. In these circumstances, it is an ideal situation to share the resources as much as possible. In this article, examples are shown of where the limited resources may occur in both agencies, and how the manager may overcome these problems by sharing the resources. Examples of affective and just sharing of resources are given for both parks and police departments. In Parks Management, affective trade-offs are shown among trim mowing, tractor mowing, garbage collection and ball-field dragging. In Police departments affective trade-offs are shown among foot patrol, car patrol, detective analysis and office work.

Searching secret key of classical ciphers in the keyspace is a challenging NP-complete problem that can be successfully solved using metaheuristic techniques. This article proposes two metaheuristic techniques: improved genetic algorithm (IGA) and a new discrete cuckoo search (CS) algorithm for solving a classical substitution cipher. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed techniques are compared to the existing tabu search (TS) and genetic algorithm (GA) techniques using three criteria: (a) average number of key elements correctly detected, (b) average number of keys examined before determining the required key, and (c) the mean performance time. As per the results obtained, the improved GA is comparatively better than the existing GA for criteria (a) and (c), while the proposed CS strategy is significantly better than rest of the algorithms (i.e., GA, IGA, and TS) for all three criteria. The obtained results indicate that the proposed CS technique can be an efficient and effective option for solving other similar NP-complete combinatorial problems also.

The mathematical computational method of genetic algorithms is frequently useful in solving optimization problems in systems with many parameters, for example, a search for suitable parameters of a given problem that achieves a stated purpose. The method searches for these parameters in an efficient parallel way, and has some analogies with evolution. There are other optimization methods available, such as stimulated annealing, but we shall use genetic algorithms. We shall present three different problems that give an indication of the diversity of applications. We begin with a very short primer on genetic algorithms, which can be omitted if the reader has some knowledge of this subject. Genetic algorithms (GAs) work with a coding of a parameter set, which in the field of chemical kinetics may consist of a number of parameters, such as rate coefficients; variables and constraints, such as concentrations; and other quantities such as chemical species. Binary coding for a parameter is done as follows. Suppose we have a rate coefficient = 9.08 × 10−7; then if we write that rate coefficient as 10−P , with −10 ≤ P ≤ 10, a binary coding with string length of 16 bits is given by . . . P = 10 − 20 R /(216 − 1) (10.1) . . . where 0 ≤ R ≤ 216 − 1. Since P = 6.04 we have R = 12,971, or R = 0011001010101010 to the base 2. Thus the value of the rate coefficient is encoded in a single bit string, called a chromosome. For the solution of a given problem an optimization criterion must be chosen. With a given choice of parameters this criterion is calculated; the comparison of that calculation with the goal set for the criterion gives a fitness value for that set of parameters. If the fitness is adequate but not sufficient, when both are selected by prior choice, for any individual, then retain that individual for the next generation. Reject individuals below that choice. Select individuals for the next generation with a probability proportional to the fitness value from a roulette wheel on which the slot size is proportional to the fitness value. Notice that genetic algorithms use probabilistic, not deterministic, transition rules.

Upcoming Energy related Products (ErP) regulations on wastewater pumps by the European Commission will affect all pump manufacturers and operators of wastewater systems. Hence, the preparation of efficiency standards for wastewater pumps is intensively accompanied by input from the affected stakeholders and experts of different fields [1]. The previous approaches of ErP regulations, as in lot 11 (Electric motors, Ventilation fans, Circulators in buildings, Electric pumps), focus only on efficiency. However, when applying the philosophy of Ecodesign directly to wastewater pumps, the complex flow structure and the transport behaviour of this inhomogeneous multi-phase fluid must be taken into account. While efficiency is an important criterion, it is necessary to take the specifics of sewage transport into account when designing a new test standard, so as not to compromise on proven and “system-efficient” technologies. Therefore, the Berlin Institute of Technology is currently investigating wastewater compositions and limits for reliable pump operation in order to design a test standard for wastewater pumps comparable to the DIN EN ISO 9906 efficiency tests for clear water [2]. The test will assess the functional fulfilment level of the pump performance, differentiating between the wastewater classes.

An optimal sensor placement methodology is proposed based on detection theory framework to maximize the detection rate and minimize the false alarm rate. Minimizing the false alarm rate for a given detection rate plays an important role in improving the efficiency of a Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system as it reduces the number of false alarms. The placement technique is such that the sensor features are as directly correlated and as sensitive to damage as possible. The technique accounts for a number of factors, like actuation frequency and strength, minimum damage size, damage detection scheme, material damping, signal to noise ratio (SNR) and sensing radius. These factors are not independent and affect each other. Optimal sensor placement is done in two steps. First, a sensing radius, which can capture any detectable change caused by a perturbation and above a certain threshold, is calculated. This threshold value is based on Neyman-Pearson detector that maximizes the detection rate for a fixed false alarm rate. To avoid sensor redundancy, a criterion to minimize sensing region overlaps of neighboring sensors is defined. Based on the sensing region and the minimum overlap concept, number of sensors needed on a structural component is calculated. In the second step, a damage distribution pattern, known as probability of failure distribute, is calculated for a structural component using finite element analysis. This failure distribution helps in selecting the most sensitive sensors, thereby removing those making remote contributions to the overall detection scheme.

Currently, the construction sector is facing requirements for higher quality and efficiency standards as well as objectives related to value creation. In construction, rational decision-making problems often involve creating a unique complex of criteria, which must consider multiple requirements and conditions. The paper presents the developed model for the selection of multi-layered external walls of a residential building. The model considers the following aspects and parameters: time, cost, quality, environmental conditions, aspects of sustainable development, and problemsolving benefits received from the assessment of alternatives and the development of the model. Game theory was used to calculate the defining rational decision. For the calculations was used game theory: Bayes, Wald’s rule, Savage criterion, Laplace’s rule. This study presents the developed model for the selection of multi-layered external walls of a residential building and calculation results based on game-theory rules, which are effective tools for rational decisionmaking.

Oil and gas producing rates have increased rapidly with the development of shale oil and fracturing technology. Besides, advances in horizontal wells have increased the slugging issue, especially in complex geometry wells. Therefore, Artificial lift systems, especially rod-pumps and electrical submersible pumps, always suffer from associated gas and require an economical way to avoid problems like gas lock, gas pound, gas interference and slugging. Among all kinds of the downhole separator, and the gravitational separator are the most economical devices, which can handle severe slugging problems. The rule of thumb liquid maximum downward velocity for the gravitational separator is 0.6 in/s [13, 14]. However, the criterion needs to be improved by considering pressure, temperature and fluid properties. This article first uses CFD simulations to validate the critical liquid velocity and then obtains pressure field, velocity profile, gas distribution and sensitivity factors under complicated field situations. The results could be used to develop an empirical or even a mechanistic efficiency prediction model in the future. In this paper, 2-D simulation is first utilized to study the critical separation velocity and effective parameters. Comparing with Stokes’ law, the simulation shows density, and surface tension have a strong effect of critical separation velocity, while viscosity has lower influence. Then extended 2-D simulations are conducted on different inner tube to annulus connection geometry, which shows a strong effect on separation efficiency. Later on, 3-D CFD simulations are generated based on a newly designed separator by TUALP and an existing design from the Don-Nan separator. Simulations are used to validate 2-D conclusion and illustrate the improvement of the new design.

Psychological readiness is a complex phenomenon that includes a variety of motivational and regulatory components, a system of cognitive patterns of future activities and working conditions, predictive assessments, as well as managing your own emotional reactions. In the professional field of «Man-Technique», the subject of labor, managing a complex technical system, must have a high level of stress tolerance and self-regulation, which gives particular importance to the problem of professional diagnosis and selection. Subjective criteria can catch the «subtle» emotional experiences, the nuances of cognitive-affective processes that simultaneously occur in the psyche of the individual. Objective criteria — often require a rather expensive research procedure. In this regard, diagnostic techniques that combine efficiency and short duration with validity criteria are most in demand. To test the assumptions of their effectiveness, a study was conducted of psychological readiness for professional activity among novice drivers, as well as among cadets-pilots of civil aviation who begin training flight training. Samples «Falling words», «Manifest words» study the perceptual mechanisms underlying the subject’s interpretation of the situation as potentially stressful, diagnosing perceptive alertness / protection. A professional who has a high willingness to interpret the received signals as stressful will recognize these words faster, which will be reflected in the objective criterion — a short signal recognition time. A comparison of the data with the results of the coping tests revealed that for novice drivers, perceptual vigilance prevails over perceptual protection. More experienced drivers often discharge suppressed emotions (usually hostility, anger), directing them to objects that are less dangerous or more accessible than those that caused negative emotions and feelings. The psychological readiness for training flights among cadets needs an additional study of perceptual and emotional components that will be used in self-regulation of resistance to emotional and psychological stress associated with upcoming professional activities.

In principle, the reliability of complex structural systems can be accurately predicted through Monte Carlo simulation. This method has several attractive features for structural system reliability, the most important being that the system failure criterion is usually relatively easy to check almost irrespective of the complexity of the system. However, the computational cost involved in the simulation may be prohibitive for highly reliable structural systems. In this study a new Monte Carlo based method recently proposed for system reliability estimation that aims at reducing the computational cost is applied. It has been shown that the method provides good estimates for the system failure probability with reduced computational cost. By a numerical example the usefulness and efficiency of the method to estimate the reliability of a system represented by a nonlinear finite element structural model is demonstrated. To reduce the computational cost involved in the nonlinear finite element analysis the method is combined with a response surface model.

The high-loaded centrifugal compressor blisk-type impeller, one of the main low-sized gas-turbine engine components, strongly affects engine efficiency. However, its design is a time-consuming and complex task for several reasons, including its high loading, the large number of structural and technological constraints, and the variety of requirements needed for application to a gas-turbine engine centrifugal compressor impeller (e.g., increased efficiency and strength, minimized weight requirements, etc.). The imposition of several constraints for structure modification of the centrifugal wheels can improve one characteristic but can worsen others. The standard solution for this problem is to use an iterative approach, whereby the design process is reduced to a consistent set of impeller element design problem statements and decisions; these are separate for different analysis disciplines. The main drawbacks to this approach are that it is labor intensive and can cause deterioration of the design quality because this procedure does not consider the design object as a unit. The present work considers a centrifugal compressor wheel design approach based on the use of an integrated multidisciplinary parameterized 3D model. This model includes a number of specialized sub-models that describe the necessary design areas as well as physical process features and phenomena occurring in the designed object. The model also realizes the integration and interaction of sub-models used in an integrated computing space. The proposed approach allows the optimization of the structure based on several criteria, such as the mass of the wheel, stage efficiency, strength, economic indicators, etc. The result of multi-criteria optimization is not a single product design, but a set of optimal Pareto points, which describes a number of centrifugal wheel models. The optimal configuration is selected from this set, based on what is considered the most important criterion. Optimization criteria may vary depending on the problem formulation, but the design technology, parameterization scheme, and choice of multidisciplinary integrated mathematical model are retained. Therefore, in the case of a product requirement correction, a new optimal design will require less time. In aggregate, with the nonlinear constrained optimization application, this approach reduces the total time of the design cycle, decreases development costs, and improves quality.

A high-dimensional design space, different objectives, many constraints and a time-consuming process chain result in a complex task for any optimization tool. This paper shows methods and strategies used at DLR, Institute of Propulsion Technology, to handle this kind of problem. The present optimization task is a rotor-stator configuration with more than two hundred free design variables, two objective functions (efficiency, stall margin) and mechanical and aerodynamic constraints (mass flow, eigenfrequencies, etc.). The process chain consists of geometry and mesh generation, FEM-and 3D-CFD calculations for different operating points. After defining the setup and explaining the initial already 3-D-preoptimized configuration, the CFD/FEM optimization tool is described. This tool calculates the complete CFD/FEM process chain and creates new designs (also called members) by using an evolutionary algorithms. Parallel to the CFD/FEM optimization a program based on surrogate models is running. By using surrogate models a fast evaluation of new members is enabled. So a database of new members can be created quickly. Based on this database a set of new members is built. This is send to the CFD/FEM optimization tool, where the complete CFD/FEM process chain is applied. After the CFD/FEM evaluation process, these member are used to train the surrogate models again. This procedure repeats until the optimization goals are reached. In the next part of this paper the implemented surrogate models are discussed. Both neural networks and Kriging models have advantages and disadvantages compared to each other. It is important to understand them to choose the right model at the right time of optimization. The main focus of this paper is on the selection criterion for new members. This criterion has two targets: push the performance of the fan stage and enhance the surrogate models. At first sight these targets seem to be contrary, but the surrogate models do not predict a single mean value for an objective. They offer a density distribution of the potential objective values. That allows calculation of the Paretofront enhancement (ParetoEnSet) for a set of new members. ParetoEnSet is the expected area gain of a set of members to the current Paretofront. This criterion based on the already known expected improvement. It is shown, that ParetoEnSet can rise, when the uncertainty of an prediction increases. The uncertainty is estimated by a surrogate model. So new members tend to explore the design space, where the predicted uncertainty is huge. These members are favorable for improving the surrogate models. In addition, it is easy to couple constraints with ParetoEnSet. In the last section the results of the optimization are illustrated. Compared to baseline design the optimized stage accomplishes a notable improvement in efficiency by obtaining the stall margin and fulfilling multi aerodynamical and mechanical constraints.

Thermodynamic efficiency must be considered in the effective analysis of gas turbine fuel cell power generation system performance. In most numerical simulations of hybrid systems, the use of compressor maps and turbine maps are neglected. It is assumed that the design criterion generated by the system model can be met by the manufacturer of these items. These system models may use partial information from a compressor map, or a turbine map, but they fail to match all the operating conditions of both maps in a hybrid configuration. Also, to simplify the calculations that are performed by the complex hybrid system models, the effects of heat transfer and fluid dynamic drag are often decoupled. When system calculations are done in this way, the resulting calculations for system efficiency may suffer error. Hybrid system designers need a simple method to calculate the system performance directly from the maps of real compressors and real turbines that currently exist, and that would be part of a hybrid system. In this work, a simple procedure is illustrated where a coupled analysis of the various system components is performed and included as part of the system model. This analysis is done using the compressor and turbine maps of the hybrid performance project hardware at the U.S. Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). Model parameters are tuned using experimental conditions and results are obtained. The results show the importance of aerodynamic coupling in system models, and how this coupling affects the system efficiency calculations. This coupling becomes important especially for the variable density flows that are typically found in combustors, heat exchangers and fuel cells.

The emergence of modern complex systems is often exacerbated by a proliferation of information and complication of technologies. Because current complex systems challenges can limit an organization's ability to efficiently handle socio-technical systems, it is essential to provide methods and techniques that count on individuals' systems skills. When selecting future employees, companies must constantly refresh their recruitment methods in order to find capable candidates with the required level of systemic skills who are better fit for their organization's requirements and objectives. The purpose of this study is to use systems thinking skills as a supplemental selection tool when recruiting prospective employees. To the best of our knowledge, there is no prior research that studied the use of systems thinking skills for recruiting purposes. The proposed framework offers an established tool to HRM professionals for assessing and screening of prospective employees of an organization based on their level of systems thinking skills while controlling uncertainties of complex decision-making environment with the fuzzy linguistic approach. This framework works as an expert system to find the most appropriate candidate for the organization to enhance the human capital for the organization.

Background. Machine learning tools that semi-automate data extraction may create efficiencies in systematic review production. We prospectively evaluated an online machine learning and text mining tool’s ability to (a) automatically extract data elements from randomized trials, and (b) save time compared with manual extraction and verification. Methods. For 75 randomized trials published in 2017, we manually extracted and verified data for 21 unique data elements. We uploaded the randomized trials to ExaCT, an online machine learning and text mining tool, and quantified performance by evaluating the tool’s ability to identify the reporting of data elements (reported or not reported), and the relevance of the extracted sentences, fragments, and overall solutions. For each randomized trial, we measured the time to complete manual extraction and verification, and to review and amend the data extracted by ExaCT (simulating semi-automated data extraction). We summarized the relevance of the extractions for each data element using counts and proportions, and calculated the median and interquartile range (IQR) across data elements. We calculated the median (IQR) time for manual and semiautomated data extraction, and overall time savings. Results. The tool identified the reporting (reported or not reported) of data elements with median (IQR) 91 percent (75% to 99%) accuracy. Performance was perfect for four data elements: eligibility criteria, enrolment end date, control arm, and primary outcome(s). Among the top five sentences for each data element at least one sentence was relevant in a median (IQR) 88 percent (83% to 99%) of cases. Performance was perfect for four data elements: funding number, registration number, enrolment start date, and route of administration. Among a median (IQR) 90 percent (86% to 96%) of relevant sentences, pertinent fragments had been highlighted by the system; exact matches were unreliable (median (IQR) 52 percent [32% to 73%]). A median 48 percent of solutions were fully correct, but performance varied greatly across data elements (IQR 21% to 71%). Using ExaCT to assist the first reviewer resulted in a modest time savings compared with manual extraction by a single reviewer (17.9 vs. 21.6 hours total extraction time across 75 randomized trials). Conclusions. Using ExaCT to assist with data extraction resulted in modest gains in efficiency compared with manual extraction. The tool was reliable for identifying the reporting of most data elements. The tool’s ability to identify at least one relevant sentence and highlight pertinent fragments was generally good, but changes to sentence selection and/or highlighting were often required.
