The earliest Hebrew Masoretic Bibles and word lists are analyzed from the perspective of index structure. Masoretic Bibles and word lists may have served as models for the first complete Biblical concordances, which were produced in France, in the Latin language, in the 13th century. The thematic Hebrew Biblical word lists compiled by the Masoretes several centuries earlier contain concordance-like structures - words arranged alphabetically, juxtaposed with the Biblical phrases in which they occur. The Hebrew lists lack numeric locators, but the locations of the phrases in the Bible would have been familiar to learned people. The indexing methods of the Masoretes are not known, but their products contain many structures commonly thought to date from the modern era of information systems, among them word frequency counts, distinction of homographs, positional indexing, truncation, adjacency, and permuted indexes. It is documented that Hebrew Bibles were consulted by the Latin concorders; since Masoretic Bibles had the most accurate text, they were probably the editions consulted. This suggests the likely influence of Masoretic lists on the Latin concorders.

Some parts of the Complete Chronographic Palaea contain fragments of an Old Slavonic translation of the Bible, which was intended for personal home or monastic reading (chetij in Old Slavonic). The origin of this translation has not received much scholarly attention so far. The main purpose of this paper is to identify the version of the Book of Genesis used in the Palaea by comparing the textual traditions of the Slavonic Pentateuch, Octateuch and chronographs. The Complete Сhronographic Palaea is one of the Old Russian compilations containing both the Old Testament translations and chronographic sources. Its biblical part is built on the material of the Palaea Interpretata, as well as on the Slavonic “chetij” biblical translation, while the chronographic part has excerpts from the translated Byzantine chronicles after the version of the so-called Chronograph po velikomu izlozheniju with additions. Overall, the manuscript tradition of the Slavonic Octateuch includes three families. While interpolations from the Genesis in the Complete Palaea reveal little resemblance to two of them, namely, Russian and South Slavic recensions, we see dozens overlaps with the group of the Trinity Pentateuchs (Russian State Library, f.304. I, No.1 and No.45). The text of this group belongs to the third, Chronographic recension of the “chetij” Octateuch with specific features covering dozens of examples of identical innovations. However, some discrepancies with the Trinity Pentateuchs and convergence with the original readings preserved in two other recensions show that the compiler of the Complete Palaea was dealing with an earlier common protographe. The Chronographic recension itself was divided into two groups (Trinity Pentateuchs and Iudejsky Chronograph) approximately in the late 1100s or early 1200s and is now represented by only five manuscripts. Therefore, the evidence of the Complete Chronographic Palaea is important both for the textual analysis of the Old Slavonic biblical translations and for the history of the Old Russian chronographs as well.

The article is devoted to one of the most difficult and little-studied problems in the historiography of Ancient Russian chronographs: reconstruction of the composition of the biblical part of the so-called Chronograph according to the Greate narrative (Khronograf po velicomu izlozheniju – hereafter KVI) of the 2nd type. Its beginning, replaced in the Troitskii khronograf by the Biblical books fand in Complete and Brief chronographic versions of the Paleya – by Paleya Interpretata, has only recently been correlated with Tikhonravov’s chronograph. The basis for this conclusion was the study of borrowings in the last from the Chronicles of John Malala, which are read in the editorial revision, in the biblical part – similar to the Introductory part of Hellenic Chronograph (Letopisetc Ellinskii) of the 1st and 2nd types and with the so-called Addition to the Paleya, and in the chronographic part – similar to the Troitskii khronograf and Complete and Brief chronographic Paleyas. In this article, other sources are attached to this series of correspondences, namely: a story about the settlement of the descendants of the sons of Noah, chapter 34 from the Izbornik Svyatoslava of 1073, extract from Chronicle of George the Monk (Hamartolus), a story about the size of the Tower of Babel and the "Legend of the Creation of the World" by Epiphanius of Cyprus. Most of the listed common sources of chronographs were included in the biblical part of the non-preserved early chronograph (unlikely called in ancient Russian literature: KVI), which was addressed by the compiler of the KVI of the 2nd kind, apparently using them not only in the main text containing the biblical books, but also in the convoy. The same non-preserved chronograph, regardless of the KVI of the 2nd kind and the Tikhonravov’s chronograph, became one of the sources of the Introductory part of the Letopisetc Ellinskii of both types, Additions to the Paleya, the Introduction and Philosopher's Speech of the Tale of Bygone Years, the Paleya Interpretata and, possibly, the Short chronographic Paleya. The list of common sources of the biblical parts of the listed monuments of Old Russian chronography and chronicles does not end there: a number of biblical apocrypha dating back to the Book of Jubilees, as well as the apocryphal Life of Moses should be added to them. However, this issue is beyond the scope of this article.

This article presents a new interpretation of Richard Simon’s Histoire critique du Vieux Testament (1678). It argues that the initial prohibition of Simon’s work in 1678 has separated it from the debates and arguments that chiefly shaped its contents. It gives an account of the developments in seventeenth-century biblical criticism that preceded Simon’s work before offering a new account of the genesis and composition of the Histoire critique du Vieux Testament. Following this, it presents an examination--based in part on previously unexamined material drawn from Simon’s library--of three of the central and most innovative parts of Simon’s project: his definition of his approach as a ‘critical history’, his new history of the Hebrew text of the Old Testament, and his novel use of manuscript material. The study concludes with a reconsideration of Simon’s work immediately following the Histoire critique du Vieux Testament’s prohibition, arguing that in a series of Latin works Simon attempted to use the methods and shared assumptions of seventeenth-century biblical criticism to justify his work to his contemporary scholars.

This article focuses on the international expansion of modern literature in the early twentieth century through the examples of cheap reprint series published in the United States (the Modern Library), Britain (the Phoenix Library), and Continental Europe (Albatross). Since these series published all kinds of texts (‘high’, ‘low’, and ‘middlebrow’), ‘modern literature’ is defined broadly, to include difficult modernist texts and popular literature. Cheap reprint series created in the fifteen years from 1917 to 1932 opened up new markets for texts by James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and other writers previously associated with little magazines and small presses. Books have no borders, copyright issues aside. And copyright proved a big headache for the owners of these series, leading to honest mistakes and serious disagreements. The story of modernism as an international product sold to the world is not complete without an overview of copyright issues. The central argument is that copyright problems limited the reach of cheap reprint series and slowed down the international expansion of the new literature. It is not a coincidence that one of the most dynamic markets for modern literature was the Far East, where Anglophone publishers could trade books without restrictions. Continental Europe is another example of a market where the low barriers to access stimulated intense competition and the launch of innovative series such as Albatross Modern Continental Library.

Introduction: Radiation-associated soft tissue sarcomas of the neck (RASN) constitute a rare and aggressive tumor type. Methods: A retrospective chart review at the authors’ institution revealed 3 patients with RASN. A systematic review of the literature was also conducted using MEDLINE, Ovid, the Cochrane Library, and Embase. Results: Patients within the authors’ institutional chart review presented from 6 to 26 years after neck radiation with neck masses. All patients underwent surgical resection with clear margins, and adjuvant radiation was offered when feasible. Patients had no evidence of disease at most recent follow-up. A total of 867 articles were screened for systematic review, revealing 9 articles detailing outcomes of RASN. Studies were small and heterogeneous, precluding pooled data. The importance of complete surgical extirpation was noted. Conclusions: Complete surgical resection appears to be the mainstay of therapy, but there are limited data on management and outcomes of patients with RASN.

Before and during the pandemic a series of events were planned exploring The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. A virtual film discussion complete with a keynote speaker and intentional breakout rooms, each with a facilitator, for discussions was successfully executed with the help of over 25 faculty and staff from both colleges.

A substantial collection of Cinque- and Seicento prints lies hidden in the Museo Internazionale e Biblioteca della Musica in Bologna. Practically unknown to scholars, at 274 titles it is among the largest collections dating from the Renaissance. The fortunate series of events that account for its survival are retraced, beginning with its formation c. 1580 and its purchase by Padre Giambattista Martini (1706–84) from the Pagliarini booksellers in Rome with the aid of Girolamo Chiti, and ending with its partial dispersion in the nineteenth century. The quality of the compound library is a critical success factor in every high-throughput screening campaign. Screening solutions have to be prepared with a high level of process control to ensure the correct identity and initial concentration of each compound. However, even under optimized storage conditions, a certain level of degradation in solution cannot be avoided. Therefore, regular quality control and eventual removal of solutions from the screening deck is necessary. Because solution preparation, especially the weighing of compounds, is a tedious and often manual task, a regular resolubilization of compounds is difficult to achieve. By complete automation of the solution preparation, the authors have laid the foundation for a life cycle management of screening solutions. They demonstrate how a combination of quality and process control leads to a continuous improvement of the screening library. In presenting an automation concept, they show how a series of innovative process optimizations led to a high-performance system that achieves full industrialization of solution preparation. The article's goal is to study and publish the text of a specific Slavic-Russian version of the apocryphal Life of Moses, previously unknown, which was identified in two manuscripts in the Russian State Library (both from the late 15th century), namely in the Tikhonravov’s Chronograph from the collection of handwritten books of N. S. Tikhonravov and in the Biblical Compendium from the collection of thе Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. The remaining versions of the apocryphon have been known to date as parts of Great Menaion Reader, Barsov’s Palaea Interpretata and Complete chronographic Palaea. Both new copies of the apocryphon were included in an extensive fragment of a previously unknown Old Russian chronograph based, firstly, on the Biblical books of Genesis, Exodus, Numbers and the Book of Job, as well as on an unknown Slavic translation of Judean Antiquities by Josephus, and on the following Apocrypha (in addition to the Life of Moses): Lesser Genesis (The Book of Jubilees), Death of Abraham and Genesis of Esau. The original feature of the chronograph is a compilation story of Joseph and his brothers, composed of fragments from the full version of the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs, the Tale of Joseph the Beautiful by St. Ephraim the Syrian and the famous Letter to Presbyter Khoma from Metropolitan Kliment Smoliatich. Main distinctive features of the Life of Moses published in this article are identified and analyzed: 1) a different sequence of the narration; 2) several individual readings–including primary ones, ascending to the Jewish original; 3) literary and stylistic differences; 4) four insertions, which have correlations with the Greek Chronicon of George Kedrenos and were partially reflected in the Short chronographic Palaea and in the Speech of the Scholar from the Old Russian Tale of Past Years. In addition, some revisions and inserts were discovered in the biblical Compendium of Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, which are based on the Slavic-Russian translation of the Historical Palaea. The final result of the study is presented as a stemma of relations between the editions of the apocryphon.

The manuscripts which contain the Old English translation of the gospels have been little studied since Skeat's compendious editions of the last century, yet the interest and importance of these codices, no less than that of the texts they preserve, should not be underestimated. The vernacular translation of a biblical text stands as a monument to the confidence and competence of Anglo-Saxon monastic culture; the evidence of the surviving manuscripts can offer insights into the development and dissemination of this text. The following study examines two fragments from an otherwise lost manuscript of the West Saxon gospels, which are preserved as an endleaf and parchment reinforcements in the binding of a fourteenth-century Latin psalter now in the Beinecke Library at Yale University, Beinecke 578. I shall first discuss the psalter and its accompanying texts in the attempt to localize the manuscript and its binding. I shall then turn to the West Saxon gospel fragments; after presenting a description and, for the first time, a complete transcription, I shall attempt to locate this text in the context of other Anglo-Saxon gospel manuscripts.

Abstract Background – Knowledge synthesis (KS) reviews are increasingly being conducted and published. Librarians are frequently taking a role in training colleagues, faculty, graduate students, and others on aspects of knowledge syntheses methods. Objective – In order to inform the design of a workshop series, the authors undertook a scoping review to identify what and how knowledge synthesis methods are being taught in higher education settings, and to identify particularly challenging concepts or aspects of KS methods. Methods – The following databases were searched: MEDLINE, EMBASE & APA PsycInfo (via Ovid); LISA (via ProQuest); ERIC, Education Research Complete, Business Source Complete, Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, Library & Information Science Source, and SocIndex (via EBSCO); and Web of Science core collection. Comprehensive searches in each database were conducted on May 31, 2019 and updated on September 13, 2020. Relevant conferences and journals were hand searched, and forward and backward searching of the included articles was also done. Study selection was conducted by two independent reviews first by title/abstract and then using the full-text articles. Data extraction was completed by one individual and verified independently by a second individual. Discrepancies in study selection and data extraction were resolved by a third individual. Results – The authors identified 2,597 unique records, of which 48 full-text articles were evaluated for inclusion, leading to 17 included articles. 12 articles reported on credit courses and 5 articles focused on stand-alone workshops or workshop series. The courses/workshops were from a variety of disciplines, at institutions located in North America, Europe, New Zealand, and Africa. They were most often taught by faculty, followed by librarians, and sometimes involved teaching assistants. Conclusions – The instructional content and methods varied across the courses and workshops, as did the level of detail reported in the articles. Hands-on activities and active learning strategies were heavily encouraged by the authors. More research on the effectiveness of specific teaching strategies is needed in order to determine the optimal ways to teach KS methods.

Time series are typically built on basic assumptions that include stationarity, linearity and normality. The three characteristics are crucial for estimating and building time series models. Studies on time series include these assumptions. To deal with unstable time series that are based on its basis, mathematical models that are suitable for such series are adopted in this study. A nonlinear self-regression model, called the rational model, is proposed. This model is a fraction in which the numerator is the complete sine function and the denominator is an exponential self-regression model. The fixed point and limit cycle of the model are simulated and determined, and its stability is studied using a linear approximation technique.

The article considers the role of merchant libraries in the history of the city. The reviewed books open a new publishing series of the scientific library of Irkutsk University, dedicated to merchant libraries of Irkutsk. Its publications provide an opportunity to get familiar with the old book collections of Irkutsk residents, know more about the interest in books and reading in our city as well as the history of private libraries. The first book in the series, published in 2019, was dedicated to the book collection of the largest Irkutsk merchant, the philanthropist and bibliophile V.N. Basnin, whose estate was one of the largest cultural salons in Irkutsk in the first half of the 19th century. The book under review contains the most complete catalog of Basnin’s library, which he had been collecting for more than 40 years. It should be noted that he was not only a reader, but also quite a professional bibliographer, ordered by mail novelty books, making their systematization and description. The second book in the series is dedicated to other merchant libraries. Its compilers have done a lot of research work to find these publications, systematize them and identify their owners. The catalog presented by the Irkutsk State University library most fully reflects the merchants’ interest in printed publications. It includes 969 book titles, reflecting 1 194 editions with exlibrises, autographs and notes of their owners. Despite the purely bibliographic nature of the peer-reviewed publications, which are considered in the research, they are of interest to different groups of people. The author notes the importance of the books not only to library workers, but also to all the readers who are not indifferent to the history of cultural life in Irkutsk, as well as to the role of books and home libraries in personality development and formation of human abilities.

This series successfully multitasks as a resource for lesson plan ideas while also teaching instructional theory and pedagogy. With one volume for each of the six frames in ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, this set is about practical applications of the frames in academic library instruction. Each volume includes complete lesson plans, including handouts and assessment ideas. The plans are grouped by discipline and the beginning of each plan designates the intended population and the learning theory, pedagogy, or instructional strategy used in the lesson. What is missing from these descriptions is whether the lesson is best suited to one-shot or multiple sessions, ideal class size, and how long the lesson takes. While such notations would make it easier for readers looking for ideas to quickly implement, this series is better suited to readers looking for clever concepts that they can adapt to their needs.

Abstract Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular tumor removed surgically or by physical modalities, such as electrocautery and cryotherapy. Other treatment options may be warranted, especially in children, using nonsurgical approach. The study aims to determine the effectiveness and safety of topical treatments on PG in children in the clearance of lesions. Systematic literature search were done in February 2023 in the following database: PubMed, HERDIN, Cochrane Library, Hindawi, Directory of Open Access Journals, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The search included studies involving PG treated with topical medications in the pediatric age group. Twenty-five studies (9 cohort studies, 6 case series, and 10 case reports) were included and utilized the following medications: timolol, propranolol, corticosteroids, common table salt, imiquimod, and ingenol mebutate. Among the medications, timolol was the most reported drug to provide partial to complete resolution in 62 out of 149 patients. All the reviewed topical medications provided partial to complete resolution with minimal adverse effects. Among them, topical timolol, propranolol, and table salt have demonstrated high response rates. Topical therapy in children with PG may be considered as a nonsurgical option. However, further clinical trials are warranted to determine its effectiveness.

Gian Vincenzo Pinelli (1535–1601) became an important figure in late Renaissance Italy due to his library. A son of an extremely wealthy Genovese banker turned Neapolitan aristocrat, Pinelli left his hometown Naples in 1558 to complete his studies at the prestigious university of Padua. Having settled in Padua, however, he soon became involved in the thriving intellectual life of the city, indulging in his passion for Classics and botany instead of pursuing formal studies. Thanks to his father’s money, he was able to spend the rest of his life collecting books. Unlike typical bibliophiles of his age, he allowed scholars working in Padua to use his library, which became one more reason for foreign intellectuals to visit the city. Selfless and friendly, Pinelli often offered them the possibility of staying at his house. Sadly, his great project of establishing an open access library founded by his private means did not became reality due to a series of misfortunes which led to the dispersal of his collection soon after his death.

Design – Case report. Setting – Six institutions consisting of three academic health sciences and three university libraries within the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Middle Atlantic Region in the United States of America. Subjects – Between two and eight librarians participated from each institution, for a total of twenty-six librarian participants. Methods – Pre-pilot phone interviews were conducted and included open-ended questions about RDM services, the library’s motivation for participating, and their degree of institutional commitment. To deepen their understanding of RDM, the participants were required to complete eight educational modules that included text, videos, and quizzes. The participating institutions received data interview questions to connect with their research community to be better informed about their attitudes, language, and practices. The participants also received a Teaching Toolkit, complete with slides, a script, and an attendee evaluation form. The participants were provided with a data series, consisting of branded classes for teaching over a designated period with instructors from within and outside of the library. Collaboration with library partners was encouraged as was the use of a focused marketing plan. In fact, a major component of the pilot was the expert support, provided through biweekly meetings that included marketing tips and presentations on such topics as clinical research data management and data visualization. Finally, post-pilot program interviews were conducted, and the open-ended questions covered the pilot program as a whole and its individual components. Main Results – Of the six participating institutions, five institutions rated the RDM educational modules very positively. Conducting data interviews was valuable for all six institutions because it allowed the librarians to meet with researchers, build relationships, and use what they learned to develop RDM services for the future. The Teaching Toolkit was rated positively by the six institutions, especially for its adaptability, the time saved over developing the content from scratch, and its usability. Finally, the two institutions that held the data series courses stated that the series succeeded in further marketing the RDM services developed by the library. Conclusion – The pilot project met its objectives: the librarians at the participating institutions completed the educational modules, administered the data interviews, and taught an RDM foundations class based on the Teaching Toolkit. In addition, a data series was hosted at two institutions. The components of the pilot project had the intended results at each institution, and the classes were reviewed favorably. Based on the pilot participants’ positive outcomes, the authors are certain that the freely available program materials would achieve success elsewhere.

It is published by the Danish Library Society and contains important contributions to the current debate on Grundtvig. This is particularly true of the three lectures by the three professors, Christian Thodberg, Leif Grane and Aage Henriksen. Thodberg discovers the background for the poem The Land of the Living in Grundtvig’s sermons and biblical poetry. Leif Grane applies a present-day theological point of view to defend Grundtvig’s standpoint in The Church’s Retort (Kirkens Gienm.le), while Aage Henriksen maintains that Grundtvig himself cannot be bounded by the world of ideas represented by the Church. He is answered by Ejvind Larsen, and adds a “preliminary” reply himself.The reviewer points out that Aage Henriksen’s lecture was also given in a Danish church, and that the Danish Church is more open than most, thanks not least to Grundtvig’s great contribution to Church freedom from 1832 onwards. His greatness lies in the fact that at one and the same time he maintained the sharp distinction between Christianity and non-Christianity and the right for people of a different persuasion to speak with the same freedom as he himself and every other Christian.

June 28, 2019, was the 50th anniversary of the first day of the Stonewall Uprising. In the early morning hours, a series of spontaneous protests began at the Stonewall Inn following a police raid. Just over one year later, on July 1, 1970, librarian Israel Fishman organized the first meeting of the ALA Task Force on Gay Liberation at the ALA Annual Conference in Detroit. A few months later, activist Barbara Gittings, created the organization’s first “Gay Bibliography,” complete with the “Gay Is Good” slogan she adopted from her friend, Washington, D.C. activist, Franklin Kameny. She distributed 3,000 copies at the ALA Annual Conference in 1971. Gittings knew from experience the challenges of researching the history of sexual minorities.

Abstract Objective To analyse the available evidence about the use of rituximab (RTX) and other biologic agents in eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) patients and to provide useful findings to inform the design of future, reliable clinical trials. Methods A systematic review was performed. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science and the Cochrane library databases on RTX, and an extensive literature search was conducted on other biologic agents. Results Forty-five papers pertinent to our questions were found: 16 retrospective cohort studies, 8 case series, 3 prospective cohort studies and 18 single case reports, for a total of 368 EGPA patients. More than 80% of evaluable patients achieved complete or partial remission with a tendency towards a higher rate of complete response in the pANCA-positive subgroup. Conclusion Although the majority of the evaluable EGPA patients treated with RTX appears to achieve complete remission, we strongly believe that a number of sources of heterogeneity impair a clear interpretation of results and limit their transferability in clinical practice. Differences in design, enrolment criteria, outcome definition and measurement make a comparison among data obtained from studies on RTX and other biologic agents unreliable.

Proposed is an effective integrated approach to the modelling of functional units (FU), on-board computers and embedded systems at the hardware development phase. It is applicable to enterprises with a complete production cycle of industrial systems, including on-board control and information processing devices, space and aeronautical systems and others. In the traditional approach, the driver and on-board software (BPO) are debugged and verified after the manufacture of the product or computer, which significantly increases the lead time for the finished product. The complex approach to modeling the hardware at the transaction level [1] using the SystemC library [2], encapsulating the work with the driver with SpaceWire and SpaceFibre controllers allows to speed up the development of FU and computers, as well as to detect a number of errors and limitations of the system being designed.

Adding the capabilities ofnautyto Prolog combines the strength of the “generate and prune” approach that is commonly used in logic programming and constraint solving, with the ability to reduce symmetries while reasoning over graph objects. Moreover, it enables the integration ofnautyin existing tool-chains, such as SAT-solvers or finite domain constraints compilers which exist for Prolog. The implementation consists of two components:pl-nauty, an interface connectingnauty's C library with Prolog, andpl-gtools, a Prolog framework integrating the software component ofnauty, calledgtools, with Prolog. The complete tool is available as a SWI-Prolog module. We provide a series of usage examples including two that apply to generate Ramsey graphs.

Hasyim Asyari is an educational figure who, in providing the concept of the relationship between Teacher and Student, equally underlies his teachings with an emphasis on Morals-Religious. According to both of them, the key to success in the learning and teaching process can only be produced if the relationship between Teacher and Student is carried out properly in accordance with the rules and regulations in the teaching and learning process based on morality (ethics). The research uses qualitative research in the nature of library research using books and other literature as the main object. It is called library research or often also called literature study, is a series of activities related to methods of collecting library data, reading and recording and processing research materials. The type of research used is qualitative, namely research that produces information in the form of notes and descriptive data contained in the text under study. The study of the thoughts of Sheikh Sarnuji and Hadratus Sheikh KH. Hasyim Asyari regarding the relationship between teacher and student in the context of education in Indonesia has provided clear and significant directions for the implementation of education in forming a complete human being.

Thе detailed description of the manuscript is of great importance for the completion of the catalogue Bibliotheca Homiletica Balcano-Slavica, and it will bring to the scholarly attention many valuable, unknown, or little known, mostly translated, works, enhancing our understanding of the reception of Byzantine rhetoric in the South Slavonic Medieval milieu.

In this paper, four machine learning algorithms are examined regarding their effectiveness in dealing with a complete lack of sensor drift values for a crucial parameter for ship performance evaluation, such as a ship’s speed through water (STW). A basic Linear Regression algorithm, a more sophisticated ensemble model (Random Forest) and two modern Recurrent Neural Networks i.e., Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Neural Basis Expansion Analysis for Time Series (N-Beats) are evaluated. A computational algorithm written in python language with the use of the Darts library was developed for this scope. The results regarding the selected parameter (STW) are provided on a real- or near-to-real-time basis. The algorithms were able to estimate the speed through water in a progressive manner, with no initial values needed, making it possible to replace the complete missingness of the label data. A physical model developed with the simulation platform of Siemens Simcenter Amesim is used to calculate the ship STW under the real operating conditions of a banker ship type during a period of six months. These theoretically obtained values are used as reference values (“ground-truth” values) to evaluate the performance of each of the four machine learning algorithms examined.

Electrochemical hydrogenation has emerged as an environmentally benign and operationally simple alternative to traditional catalytic reduction of organic compounds. Here, we have disclosed for the first time the electrochemical hydrogenation of alkynes to a library of synthetically important Z-alkenes under mild conditions with great selectivity and efficiency. The deuterium and control experiments of electrochemical hydrogenation suggest that the hydrogen source comes from the solvent, supporting electrolyte, and base. The scanning electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction experiments demonstrate that palladium nanoparticles generated in the electrochemical reaction act as a chemisorbed hydrogen carrier. Moreover, complete reduction of alkynes to saturated alkanes can be achieved through slightly modified conditions. Furthermore, a series of novel mechanofluorochromic materials have been efficiently constructed with this protocol that showed blue-shifted mechanochromism. This discovery represents the first example of cis-olefins–based organic mechanochromic materials.

The article studiesthe lexical and semantic features of the anthroponyms in the modern English prose discourse, basing on the material of The Mortal Instruments, series of six young adult fantasy novels, written by Cassandra Claire. The work presents origin analysis of the characters` names and surnames presented in the books, and the ways of their interpretation. Particular attention was paid to the information and stylistic functionality of onyms and their impact on the reader’s knowledge of the inner world of the characters. We proved the connection between the choice of one’s own name and the character’s behavior, his or her actions and a complex socio-psychological portrait; and determined the interdependence between the use of different forms of the name, its short forms or complete replacement, from the metamorphoses that occur with the characters during the development of the plot line of the novel. The work studies the notion of allusion as a kind of intertextuality through the collaboration of biblical and mythological motives, which in turn contributed not only to the specifics of the names` choice of some characters, but also determined their role and order of decisions. It is emphasized the importance of in-depth study of anthroponyms in modern English prose, taking into account the diversity of their role within the work of art, the ability to reflect the culture and social life of society, focusing on the hidden symbolism and literary heritage of a culture and country in general. Abstract
Objective – This article describes how librarians systematically compared different e-book platforms to identify which features and design impact usability and user satisfaction.
Methods – This study employed task-based usability testing, including the “think-aloud protocol.” Students at the University of Colorado Boulder completed a series of typical tasks to compare the usability and measure user satisfaction with academic e-books. For each title, five students completed the tasks on three e-book platforms: the publisher platform and two aggregators. Thirty-five students evaluated seven titles on nine academic e-book platforms.
Results – This study identified each platform’s strengths and weaknesses based on students’ experiences and preferences. The usability tests indicated that students preferred Ebook Central over EBSCO and strongly preferred the aggregators over publisher platforms.
Conclusions – Librarians can use student expectations and preferences to guide e-book purchasing decisions. Preferences may vary by institution, but variations in e-book layout and functionality impact students’ ability to successfully complete tasks and influences their affinity for or satisfaction with any given platform. Usability testing is a useful tool for gauging user expectations and identifying preferences for features, functionality, and layout.

Starting from the chiral 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinolin-8-ol core, a series of amino-phosphorus-based ligands was realized. The so-obtained amino-phosphine ligand (L1), amino-phosphinite (L2) and amino-phosphite (L3) were evaluated in iridium complexes together with the heterobiaryl diphosphines tetraMe-BITIOP (L4), Diophep (L5) and L6 and L7 ligands, characterized by mixed chirality. Their catalytic performance in the asymmetric hydrogenation (AH) of the model substrate 6,7-dimethoxy-1-phenyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline 1a led us to identify Ir-L4 and Ir-L5 catalysts as the most effective. The application of these catalytic systems to a library of differently substituted 1-aryl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolines afforded the corresponding products with variable enantioselective levels. The 4-nitrophenyl derivative 3b was obtained in a complete conversion and with an excellent 94% e.e. using Ir-L4, and a good 76% e.e. was achieved in the reduction of 2-nitrophenyl derivative 6a using Ir-L5.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is caused due to un-mounted diabetic comorbidities. The patients suffer complete vision blindness if untreated or diagnosed on later stage. In this article, we propose a novel approach for early detection and prediction using trained datasets of multiple features. The process expansion is resultant of multiple stage attribute extraction via a series of inter-collateral parameters of diabetics. Typically, the proposed technique is designed and developed on a multi-value and multi-dimension datasets such as comorbidities history of patient encountered during diabetics. The proposed technique uses collateral attributes in evaluating retinopathy status and thereby validates the extracted DR under threshold value comparisons. The results are computed using HADOOP framework for recursive pattern and feature evaluation. The trial is processed on UCL digital library datasets with estimated performance of 98.7% with extraction and 92.34% with value True-Positive (TP) prediction.

ABSTRACT: This paper documents and discusses the evolution of management control, which includes management and financial accounting, in the Harvard Business School (HBS) from 1908 to 1980. Primary emphasis is placed on the roles of the key movers, Ross G. Walker and Robert N. Anthony. The successive alterations in the configuration and content of the MBA courses in the Business School, based on a reading of the course catalogues, faculty papers and other documents on file in Baker Library, and interviews and correspondence with many of the principals, together with an examination of the series of text- and casebooks published by HBS accounting faculty, are the factual basis for this historical study. Concomitant developments at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Chicago are also brought into the analysis. An appendix contains a complete list of the HBS accounting faculty during the time span under study.

This article is the first study of the library belonging to the Łódź industrialist and art collector Henryk Grohman (1862–1939). It attempts to answer the question of the degree to which analysing these volumes, which are now housed in the collections of the University of Warsaw Library and the National Museum in Warsaw, can prove helpful in the study of art collections. The methodology for researching historical book collections was used to reconstruct and describe the library. These inquiries resulted in more than 165 titles being determined, which originally belonging to Grohman and covered oriental and European arts and crafts, as well as graphic and drawing arts (about 60). These included monographs, albums, and critical catalogues, exhibition and antiquarian nature, published mainly in Western Europe before 1914. The collector’s specialized book collection, built up on an ongoing basis, overlapped with his artistic interests and had the character of a utilitarian library. From the point of view of the study of graphic collections of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the reference libraries of their creators seem to be of particular importance. In times when taste no longer sufficed to create a valuable collection, and quality and rarity became the main criteria for selecting graphic works, specialized literature on the subject was of help. Created by art historians, collection curators, art market experts, and also private collectors, it introduced the nuanced world of graphic arts. It provided a tool to help identify a print, determine its state, edition and quality, and thus determine the value of a given work. The preserved publications from Grohman’s library were therefore regarded as sources of specialized knowledge that the collector could not acquire either during his education or in his native environment. Three publications have been analysed in detail in the context of Grohman’s graphic arts collection: the series Le peintre-graveur illustré by Loys Delteil (1906–1926), the two-volume catalogue of Jean-Louis Forain’s lithographs and etchings by Marcel Guérin (1910, 1912), and the album devoted to the engravings of Fank Bangwyn prepared by Frank Newbolt (1908). These are publications reflecting the thriving activity of the circle of print enthusiasts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which had a significant impact on the dissemination of knowledge about this field of art. The series of relationships revealed between the collection of prints and drawings and the reference library significantly expanded the knowledge on its creator and how the collection was formed. It made it possible to appreciate the collector’s expertise and artistic taste, to observe how his awareness grew, influencing decisions on subsequent purchases, and also to detail the provenance of certain works. Thanks to the research field being expanded to include Grohman’s library, the findings on his graphic collection have become more complete and reliable.

ABSTRACT A systematic review of the literature was performed in order to organize, evaluate, and select evidences available about the safety and efficacy of minimally invasive percutaneous arthrodesis with percutaneous pedicle screws in the treatment of patients with degenerative disc disease (and other spinal pathologies) as compared to conventional arthrodesis. PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases were consulted to locate clinical trials and case reports/case series published in English between 2014 and 2019. After selection according to the inclusion/exclusion criteria, 21 of the 197 articles identified were chosen for a complete reading and used for the present review. Although the level of evidence of most of the studies included made the demonstration of efficacy and superiority among the surgical techniques reviewed difficult, the findings related to the minimally invasive procedure indicate a safe and reliable approach for the treatment of lumbar diseases. The next generation of the nation not only affects the intellect but can change all aspects of life. Tolerance can occur due to habit and modeling factors. Individuals can do something and the modeling process through direct observation or experience. The purpose of this paper is to examine the development of tolerance in the Islamic perspective and social learning theory. This research is part of a literature study research with a complete series of material from various library sources and is formulated with the results described in detail in depth. The results show that the concept of religious tolerance in children not only allows people to practice their own beliefs, but also opens the possibility of mutually beneficial cooperation in differences in each person. The community environment is heterogeneous. Children from various backgrounds learn together and are tolerant of having a role to create an attitude of mutual respect and appreciation in differences between these children.

This article presents what and how the Cistercian monk Galand of Reigny, who lived in the 12th century, wrote about the family in his short work Libellus proverbiorum, dedicated to the famous St Bernard of Clairvaux. The Book of Proverbs and its author are almost completely unknown in Poland. However, Libellus is a research-interesting example of the ‘light’ religious literature of the time written at a ‘medium’ level. The paper first introduces Galand and the monastic community to which he belonged and briefly discusses his literary work and the nature and diverse content of the work in question. In the second part, it discusses those passages of the Libellus proverbiorum in which the author addresses the theme of marriage, and family – in the literal sense, as well as in relation to the community of monks or to the Church as a whole. Firstly, the references in Galand’s text to biblical figures of spouses and families (Adam and Eve, Isaac and Rebecca and their sons, among others) are pointed out, then to well-known figures from Greek mythology (Orpheus and Eurydice), then to references to the life of ordinary families known to the author: to spouses, to mothers, widows and mothers-in-law, sons and daughters, and finally to comparisons of the life of a monastic and ecclesiastical community to a family united by love. Galand evokes the image of the family both in the proverbs themselves and in his (literal or allegorical) explanations, glosses them. His work carries, in an accessible, simple, and sometimes humorous form, moral instructions to deepen the religiousness and spirituality of both the monk and the layperson. The article includes excerpts from the Book of Proverbs translated by the author of this paper. The translation is based on the 1998 edition of Galand’s text in the Sources chrétiennes series (SC 436).

Biofilm formation is considered a major cause of therapeutic failure because bacteria in biofilms have higher protection against antimicrobials. Thus, biofilm-related infections are extremely challenging to treat and pose major concerns for public health, along with huge economic impacts. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, in particular, is a “critical priority” pathogen, responsible for severe infections, especially in cystic fibrosis patients because of its capacity to form resistant biofilms. Therefore, new therapeutic approaches are needed to complete the pipeline of molecules offering new targets and modes of action. Biofilm formation is mainly controlled by Quorum Sensing (QS), a communication system based on signaling molecules. In the present study, we employed a molecular docking approach (Autodock Vina) to assess two series of chromones-based compounds as possible ligands for PqsR, a LuxR-type receptor. Most compounds showed good predicted affinities for PqsR, higher than the PQS native ligand. Encouraged by these docking results, we synthesized a library of 34 direct and 25 retro chromone carboxamides using two optimized routes from 2-chromone carboxylic acid as starting material for both series. We evaluated the synthesized carboxamides for their ability to inhibit the biofilm formation of P. aeruginosa in vitro. Overall, results showed several chromone 2-carboxamides of the retro series are potent inhibitors of the formation of P. aeruginosa biofilms (16/25 compound with % inhibition ≥ 50% at 50 μM), without cytotoxicity on Vero cells (IC50 > 1.0 mM). The 2,4-dinitro-N-(4-oxo-4H-chromen-2-yl) benzamide (6n) was the most promising antibiofilm compound, with potential for hit to lead optimization.

BACKGROUND: The optimal management of non-invasive (mucosal and/or ductal) urothelial carcinoma of the prostate remains elusive and there is a paucity of data to guide treatment. OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to systematically review and synthesize treatment responses to conservative management of non-invasive prostatic urothelial carcinoma using intravesical therapy. METHODS: A systematic literature search using MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases from inception to November 2019 was performed. Risk of bias assessment was performed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale for non-randomised studies. Pooled estimates of complete response in the bladder and prostate and prostate only were performed using a random effects model. Pre-specified subgroup analyses were generated to assess differences in complete responses for: BCG therapy vs other agents, ductal vs mucosal involvement, CIS vs papillary tumors and TURP vs no TURP. RESULTS: Nine studies including 175 patients were identified for inclusion in the systematic review and meta-analysis. All were retrospective case series and most evaluated response to BCG therapy. The pooled global complete response rate for intravesical therapy was 60%(95%CI: 0.48, 0.72), and for prostate 88%(95%CI: 0.81, 0.96). Pre-specified analyses did not demonstrate statistically significant differences between subgroups of interest. CONCLUSIONS: Management of non-invasive prostatic urothelial carcinoma using intravesical therapy yields satisfactory results. Caution should be taken in treating patients with papillary tumors and ductal involvement, as data for these populations is limited. TURP may not improve efficacy, but is required for staging. Current recommendations are based on low quality evidence, and further research is warranted.

Objective – To identify patterns of patron behaviour in the library in order to improve space utilization.
Design – Ethnographic data-gathering, including observations and a qualitative survey.
Setting – Music library of a large public university.
Subjects – Library patrons, primarily music students but also music faculty, other students and faculty, and regional music professionals and amateurs.
Methods – In the exploratory phase, complete (i.e., incognito) participant observers recorded patron characteristics and behaviours in four zones of the library (the technology lab, the stacks, the reference area, and study carrels). They conducted a series of five-minute-long visual sweeps of these zones at five-minute intervals. Observers were not given any checklist, but were told to record anything they saw regarding the personal characteristics, behaviours, and activities of patrons. The data collected resulted in what the investigators called “flip books” (a series of images recorded in close succession, which, when flipped, could give the illusion of movement). The data was analyzed using the grounded theory approach, a qualitative method to identify recurring themes on space use. A statistical analysis based on these themes was then conducted. In the second, explanatory phase, observers conducted new “sweeps,” or observations of the same library zones, this time using checklists to indicate the occurrence of specific activities identified in the first phase (solo vs. group activity, social interaction vs. study discussion, and use of technology). In addition, observers recorded patron entry and exit on “time cards,” and had all exiting patrons answer five brief questions about the types and volume of activities they had conducted in the various zones of the library.
Main Results – The vast majority of the patrons were students. Most (at least three-quarters) engaged in solitary activity, and a large majority used electronic technology. According to data from the flip books, 44% engaged in multitasking, which was therefore significant but not preferred. It was more likely to occur when electronic technology was involved. Patrons were most likely to be present in the library for less than 5 minutes or more than 20 minutes. Patrons who stayed in the library for only a short time were more likely to engage in leisure activities than those who stayed longer, but leisure activities overall were as prevalent as study time. The technology lab and the reference area were the most popular zones. Users stayed in the technology lab and stacks for short times only, whereas the reference area and carrels were favored for long visits. Users engaged in multitasking mostly in the carrels and reference area.
Conclusion – The patrons’ preference for solitary study is at odds with academic libraries’ current interest in collaborative learning spaces, but can be explained by the specific nature of music studies (artistic creation is a solitary activity), and is in line with previous ethnographic studies of public libraries. Music students presumably use the technology labs for short visits between classes. They favor the study carrels for longer stays where they can multitask, using their own laptops and iPods. These findings can be used to help redesign the library. Design recommendations include placing the technology lab by the entrance to enable quick coming and going, increasing the number of carrels, placing them in quiet parts of the library, and equipping them with electrical outlets.

Abstract: The aim of this research is to critically analyze the postmodernist concept of mission from a Reformed perspective. This is motivated by the phenomenon of shifting culture and thinking of modern society towards the postmodern era. This change has an impact on the perspective of Christian mission which has an impact on the church in developing its duties to carry out the great commission. The approach used is qualitative with library research methods. Research results and analysis. First, the basic mission of the postmodernists does not depart from Bible revelations, resulting in a fictional concept of mission that does not reflect the reality of the truth itself. Second, the focus of the postmodernist mission is oriented towards liberating humans from social issues and setting aside the proclamation and finality of Jesus Christ as the center of Christian mission. Third, the postmodernist mission approach only emphasizes theological dialogue, so it does not present a complete and holistic truth value. The postmodernist emphasis on one mission approach results in an imbalance in the implementation of mission applications. The conclusion of this study shows that the postmodernist concept of mission in the Reformed perspective has several weaknesses and inconsistencies in terms of biblical basis, mission focus, and mission approach. This raises inequality in the application of the mission concept. There needs to be a critical evaluation and understanding of the postmodernist concept of mission, so that the church can develop its duties in carrying out the great commission in accordance with biblical principles. Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis secara kritis konsep misi kaum postmodernis dalam perspektif Reformed. Hal ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fenomena pergeseran budaya dan pemikiran masyarakat modern menuju era postmodern. Perubahan ini berdampak pada cara pandang terhadap misi Kristen yang berdampak kepada gereja dalam mengembangkan tugasnya untuk melaksanakan amanat agung. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode penelitian kepustakaan. Hasil penelitian, pertama, dasar misi kaum postmodernis bukan bertolak dari penyataan Alkitab sehingga menghasilkan konsep misi yang fiksi dan tidak mencerminkan sebuah realitas dari kebenaran itu sendiri. Kedua, fokus misi kaum postmodernis berorientasi pada pembebasan manusia dari isu sosial serta mengesampingkan proklamasi dan finalitas Yesus Kristus sebagai pusat misi Kristen. Ketiga, pendekatan misi kaum postmodernis hanya menekankan pada dialog teologis, sehingga tidak menghadirkan nilai kebenaran yang utuh dan holistik. Penekanan kaum postmodernis terhadap salah satu pendekatan misi membutikan ketimpangan dalam pelaksanaan aplikasi misi. Kesimpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa konsep misi kaum postmodernis dalam perspektif Reformed memiliki beberapa kelemahan dan ketidakkonsistenan dalam hal dasar Alkitab, fokus misi, dan pendekatan misi. Hal ini memunculkan ketimpangan dalam penerapan konsep misi tersebut. Perlu adanya evaluasi dan pemahaman yang kritis terhadap konsep misi kaum postmodernis, sehingga gereja dapat mengembangkan tugasnya dalam melaksanakan amanat agung sesuai dengan prinsip Alkitab.

The Cairo Geniza is surely the most important manuscript source for the study of Judaeo-Arabic texts, that is to say, texts whose language is Arabic written in Hebrew characters. This paper is an overall survey of the Judaeo-Arabic material in the 54 Arabic boxes of the Old Series in the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Collection. This collection which is housed in the Cambridge University Library is the largest collection of Geniza pieces to be found in any one place, with some 140,000 fragments. The Judaeo-Arabic material we are specifically dealing with here comprises some 7,000 manuscript fragments, research on which is now being prepared for publication. The discussion is limited to present research; it does not include references to other oriental collections such as the Firkovitch in St. Petersburg, which comprises not only fragments but codices (some almost complete) and a much wider range of Karaite Arabic material. As the Firkovitch collection is at last becoming more accessible, its contents will obviously need to be studied at a later stage in relation to the Cambridge Geniza material.

An important development in geometric algebra in recent years is the new system known as point geometry, which treats points as direct objects of operations and considerably simplifies the process of geometric reasoning. In this paper, we provide a complete formal description of the point geometry theory architecture and give a rigorous and reliable formal verification of the point geometry theory based on the theorem prover Coq. Simultaneously, a series of tactics are also designed to assist in the proof of geometric propositions. Based on the theoretical architecture and proof tactics, a universal and scalable interactive point geometry machine proof system, PointGeo, is built. In this system, any arbitrary point-geometry-solvable geometric statement may be proven, along with readable information about the solution’s procedure. Additionally, users may augment the rule base by adding trustworthy rules as needed for certain issues. The implementation of the system expands the library of Coq resources on geometric algebra, which will become a significant research foundation for the fields of geometric algebra, computer science, mathematics education, and other related fields.

In the placement of workers, knowledge and experience and ability are needed in carrying out their duties and if experts are not doing it then there will be destruction or failure, so to achieve success you need the right placement according to their skills. This research is library research and is included in the qualitative research approach. Data collection was carried out directly from various relevant literature, including research articles. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of data analysis show that workforce placement influences employee performance in education service agencies.

Raman spectroscopy has been used to study fragments of early Visigothic historiated manuscripts from the important mediaeval library at Santo Domingo de Silos which were a part of a Beato dating from the tenth to the mid-eleventh centuries. These fragments are from some of the oldest manuscripts in the scriptorium of the monastery. In this study, a comparison is made between the pigments and inks used on these manuscripts and those used in a previous study of the unique Visigothic Beato de Valcavado in Santa Cruz, Valladolid, completed in the year 970, which is noted for its quality of execution as well as its content and is remarkable eschatologically in being identifiable as the complete work of only a single scribe. For comparative purposes, the pigments and inks used in the Silos Monastery Beato and a series of historiated early manuscripts from mediaeval times through to the Renaissance also held in the monastic library were analysed. Raman spectroscopy identified a range of mineral and organic pigments such as cinnabar, orpiment, minium, azurite and indigo. In addition, a number of admixtures were found, for example, indigo and orpiment to produce vergaut (green) and a mixture of cinnabar with iron-gall ink and cerussite to produce darker and lighter shades of red. Some interesting conclusions were drawn about the use of iron-gall and carbon-based inks. This article is part of the themed issue ‘Raman spectroscopy in art and archaeology’.
