Sussfeld, Frédérique. "Entre expériences, récits et actions la communication du mouvement de la transition écologique traduit-elle un changement d’heuristique?" Electronic Thesis or Diss., Aix-Marseille, 2021. http://www.theses.fr/2021AIXM0069.
The ecological transition is investing the field of environmental communication by mobilising two distinct communicational phenomena, documentary film and transitional civic initiatives revealing attitudes that renew the interconnection between our tradition and the living world. By letting our comprehension of the way species function broaden, the permaculture-inspired ecological transition would allow for another relation to others. In communication sciences, players of the transition movement would be focusing on the present in numerous countries, thus encouraging the creativity of its protagonists based on their abilities and ensuring that daily actions would build the world of tomorrow. Developed by individuals with increased capabilities on environmental issues, inclusive, this cultural movement would rely on different narrative structures composing a communication gathering facts and sensitive experiences. From a corpus of movies that marked a turning point in the field of ecological documentary films, and the observation of a new permaculture-based transition project, the research conducted in information and communication sciences using an inductive and anthropological method prioritises the study of processes set up by the protagonists as well as the narrative processes employed, allowing to access interpersonal and inter-groups communications showing how people integrate notions of culture, performativity and acculturation in their daily lives. In a context where environmental communication calls up notions of fear, catastrophe and anxiety is the communication around the transition movement showing a change in heuristics?
Lamoureux-Toth, Sylvie. "Le global et le local en environnement : de l'information aux observatoires." Paris 1, 1999. http://www.theses.fr/1999PA010046.
The study of man's relations with nature in the first chapter, reveals the difficulties met with by this observer while approaching the environmental reality. The development of communicational thought and the systemic mode of reasoning integrating both complexity and incertitude, seem to allow surpassing this problem. The second chapter shows that the setting up of information systems regarding the environment, as well as observatories, at different territorial levels, encourages in fact the emergence of a more conscious ; view of nature, by establishing relations between the data, the local, the global, the observer and the observed. The empirical analysis of observatories on environment, in the third chapter, offers an opportunity for testing this hypothesis in the management of abundant and dispersed information sought after by several players, with varying and often opposing interest and needs. An approach to the observation, based on the natural heritage, is proposed in the las chapter. This is an attempt at exploring this avenue of thought by making the observatory appear not only as a storehouse of data, but also as an ecosystem ; capable of creating the infomation, and of adding a new sens to natural and social environment
Kohlmann, Émilie. "Communication environnementale et biodiversité dans le Parc naturel régional du Pilat." Thesis, La Réunion, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016LARE0002/document.
The central theme of this thesis arose from questions about the links between key environmental concepts in international and national communication and their impact on communication at local level. Biodiversity indeed perfectly illustrates such interactions insofar as the UN launched 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity – which was widely covered by the media –, while the Regional Natural Park of Pilat chose the same year to develop its Biodiversity Observatory project. This study aims at showing that environmental communication is becoming more professional in the Park for which such concerns have now become a major issue. Not only is communication crucial to have messages delivered, but it has become a strategic tool for financing purposes in a context of increasingly fierce competition. The stakes of biodiversity have been reinvested into the communication strategy of the Pilat Park. The observation of the communication devices of the Park also raises the question of their role in building an identity for the organization. According to the research we conducted, far from being fixed, this identity seems to be constantly adapting to interaction situations, depending on whether they require the creation of a common world or of a differentiation space. We will thus explain how biodiversity – which is a concept very clearly defined by the UN in its campaign speeches –, is both adapted to the identity needs of communication of the Park in an original discourse, and used as a standardized framework in an identification strategy

This thesis focuses on the construction of the environmental crisis through the flow of environmental discourses. We define the environmental crisis as a range of physical, social and discursive manifestations that are related to the Environment. They are caused by the separation of Man and nature, a relationship that derives from the Hellenistic concept of phusis. These manifestations oscillate between disruptions and uncertainties on the one hand, and on the other, the research of solutions whose objective is to find a new balance. The environmental crisis is composed of a set of public problems, as well as of numerous issues that have yet to be problematized or publicized in the public sphere. Through the careful study of some of environmental crisis discourses, we were able to examine these public problems and non-publicized issues as a wholeness. We analyzed a corpus of French and international environmental law foundation texts and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reports, and reconstructed some of the contents of this crisis. As we had three research objectives, we combined three methods of analysis. The first, a quantitative method, allowed us to define the themes of the environmental crisis. The objective of the second, a qualitative discourse analysis method, was to identify and describe the different strategies used by the different issuers of both institutional texts and CSR reports. Finally, narrative and cultural semiotics facilitated the comprehension of the organization of environmental representations, by reconstructing the underlying narratives behind the environmental crisis discourses
Gharsalli, Soumaya. "L'effet de la publicité environnementale sur l'attitude et le comportement du consommateur écologique." Nice, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012NICE0013.
During these last decades, consumers’ environmental concern has been constantly growing. The current orientation of the marketing follows this way to satisfy the needs of a consumer who became more and more sensitive to the environment. The aim of this thesis is to explore the effect of an environmental advertising on attitudes as well as on behavior of an ecological consumer. In order to respond to our questions, an empirical study was carried out on 298 individuals. This data sheets have been sorted out and analyzed by means of factorial examination (S. P. S. S) and structural equations (A. M. O. S). The results of this research show, in the first place, the importance of the quality of the arguments in the advertising message. In addition, if this research stresses the importance of the celebrity presence in advertising, contrary to claims of previous numerous researches, this does not seem to be an essential factor in the models of the advertising persuasion. Certain moderating factors are also included. If the involvement has already been proved to be important, the need for cognition and the subjective knowledge are factors that future researches cannot exclude. Finally, the attitude strength has been revealed to be an indispensable moderating factor in order to clarify the relation between the attitude and the consumer behavior
Tlig, Fadhila. "Communication environnementale et intelligence territoriale : un appui au Groupe Chimique Tunisien site de Gabès." Thesis, Université Côte d'Azur (ComUE), 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018AZUR2014.
This thesis analyzes the link between the environmental communication of Tunisian Chemical Group (TCG) site of Gabès, and the momentum of a territorial dynamic intelligence between this company and its stakeholders. In a particular context of an industrial chemical pollution, the territorial actors become aware of the need to cooperate together for a sustainable development of their region. As a first step, we identify the stakeholders of the TCG Gabès in relation to the process of environmental communication to locate, in a second step, if there is (how or why) a dynamic of territorial intelligence between them. Two methodological steps are used in this study: an analysis of thematic content that focuses on a sample of nearly twenty players where six of these players are ecological associations; and a guide for interviews that embodies the three ethical principles of a territorial intelligence, participation, global/balanced approach, and partnership. The results obtained in this study show the existence of some practices of territorial intelligence. Our recommendation is for a better involvement of the public as well as the private actors and associations based on a participatory approach, or more specifically based on the use of digital technologies

The protection of the natural environment is a key issue for the future of humanity. SSE, which shares the principles of sustainable development, is particularly well suited to implement more environmentally friendly development alternatives. The purpose of this research is to examine the factors and modalities of environmental action in this heterogeneous economy. The thesis looks at SSE organisations from the perspective of organisational identity and focuses on environmental communication on the one hand, and concrete actions on the other. The study of environmental communication is based on the social network Twitter. It is based on a program coded in Python, and on automatic text mining techniques. It highlights several rhetorical strategies. A second study deals with seven cases, based on semi-directive interviews. It sheds light on the role of individual commitment but also on collective logic in environmental action. This work makes a methodological contribution by developing the approach of automatic text mining, which is rarely used in Management Sciences. On the theoretical level, the thesis introduces the collective dimension as anborganisational identity of the SSE. We then adapt an environmental action model by identifying an additional determinant specific to these organizations. Finally, the research invites the SSE to put ecological issues back at the centre, and gives suggestions for supporting organisations in their efforts to protect the environment

Zramdini, Olfa. "Étude des déterminants de la communication environnementale des entreprises : cas de la Tunisie et du Maroc." Thesis, Besançon, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011BESA0004.
The purpose of this research is to assess the corporate environmental reporting (CER) of Tunisian and Moroccan companies and to determine the factors likely to support it or constrain it. Relying on the stakeholder theory, we use the conceptual model of Ullmann (1985) to test the effect of the stakeholder power, corporate culture and the economic and financial performances on the extent of the CER. The sample comprises 18 Tunisian and 20 Moroccan companies listed respectively on Tunisian and Moroccan stock exchanges markets. The evaluation of the extent of CER is made on the basis of annual reports collected over the period from 2000 to 2007. The results of the quantitative analysis show that CER is made mainly to shareholders and investors. The influence of corporate culture, economic and financial performances, company's industry, size and country's origin is confirmed. Furthermore, a qualitative analysis is conducted on 10 companies selected from the initial sample. The results reveal that the company's level of internationalization, being a subsidiary of multinational renowned for its commitment to sustainable development, the size of the auditor and the composition of the Board explain the extent of the CER of Tunisian and Moroccan companies

The crisis context in which our world is evolving is a fundamental and inescapable question. Recent disasters all over the continents are the proof of this dramatic concern for our world and its biodiversity. It is variable: it is either economic, political, legal and environmental. That is why our work is about waste crisis. This problem affects all our civilizations and its results are irreversible for our natural system. Furthermore, it needs immediate and sustainable responses because it is linked with the future of our planet. All countries are concerned about this problematic. However, it shows different faces even in the same geographical area. This crisis is anthropogenic and natural. It involves all national and international stakeholders. Literature reviews reveal a lack of data in Africa and the failure of projects not unsuited to local contexts. We develop several theories: circular economics, negative and positive externalities and the theory of social and supporting economy. Our work is about the importance of informal sectors in Africa, the coordination of actors in the field and the development of green jobs. This positive way is possible with innovative communication strategies and the involvement of population in local projects
Mejri, Mohamed. "Le Comportement environnemental des entreprises industrielles tunisiennes : typologie et déterminants." Littoral, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008DUNK0193.
This thesis is a first exploration of the corporate environmental behaviour of the Tunisian corporations. A survey of a sample of 70 Tunisian industrial firms permitted to put in evidence three types of enterprises reacting differently to the environmental issues, “the passive-opportunist” firms, the “conventionalist” firms and the “avant-gardist” firms. The governemental pressures, consumers’ ecological awareness and the ethical and environmental responsabilities are the main antecedents of the corporate environmental behaviour

Because of ecological and sanitary disasters, consumer's environmental concern is continuously developing. Nowadays, they wish to consume less agreeive products for nature. So, managers are aware of benefits realizable using environmental policy : becoming more "responsible" firms can improve their trade image and, consequently, their bottom line. The aim of this thesis is to explore consumer behaviour related to an environmental communication. To do so, an investigation was carried out : 520 data has been analyzed by means of factoriel examination (S. P. S. S. ) and structural equations (L. I. S. R. E. L. ). The results provide evidence that environmental communication has influence on consumer behavior. The heartening power of environmental communication's tools (publicity, design, seal, and allegations) is the principal argument explanatory of attention turned to environmental products. However, some individuals variables restrain the effect of environmental communication (particulary the geographical zone). As a conclusion, consumers are interesting by environmental communication : they want to have more information about products in order to fell reasured and to consume commodities according to their new expectations

This research seeks to analyze the phenomenon of environmental advertising contestation. In effect, there is a shortage of studies on these issues. The objective of this thesis is to explore the contours of the environmental advertising contestation concept while identifying the reasons, the manifestations and the risks associated with it. Three empirical studies, one qualitative and two experimental, show that that there are reasons of contestation related to creative elements of advertisement and discourse advertisements and others linked to advertising medium and confidence of consumer toward the advertising source. Moreover, the manifestations of contestation can range from collective and visible movements to more individual behaviors such as avoidance and the rejection of environmental advertising. In addition, the contestation seems to have a negative impact on consumer buying behavior and on the firm's image. Finally, the results indicate that provocation- a tool used by companies according to literature to avoid contestation- has negative effects on consumers‘ perceptions and attitudes toward the advertisement. In the light of the obtained results, the limitations of the thesis are outlined and future avenues of research are proposed

Around the fundamental question of presence, I draw on interdisciplinary literature whose contributions from the fields of anthropology and social geography, theatre and cinema theory, performance studies, psychoanalysis and sociology are articulated from the perspective of phenomenology and information and communication sciences. Our way of inhabiting the world has changed: online-being is the new fundamental existential condition. Our space is a performative space, because it is produced through our actions, our gestures, eminently reflexive photographic gestures, which create our digital mise en scène. This space has become the space which links together all of our active and social spaces. Here, I single out live and recorded performativity, the performativity of do-ing, the performativity of algorithms and of questions, of emojis and of all that which “fait visage”. After a socio-semiotic analysis of digital gestures, screens, the graphics of social networks and presence protocols, I describe presence as always being a mediation effect. This mediation is at once disjunction and fiction, beacause it works as a difference and as the fiction of hypermediality. Presence exists where there is play (jeu) as in the french expression “il y a du jeu”, refering to space, and in its fictional sense of play-acting. As with Sartre's café waiter, we play act in order to create reality and consciousness through fiction

In the context of growing concern for the environmental challenge, the objective of this thesis is to bring some insights on possible links between incentives, social preferences and the environmental context. Chapter 1 is a general introduction. Chapter 2 provides a survey of the experimental research disciplines studying Pro-Environmental Behavior both in the discipline of Economics and Psychology. Thanks to a thematic inventory of the published experiments, we identify the main determinants of Pro-Environmental Behaviors investigated in economics and psychology. Moreover, we provide a statistical description of studies evolution in time. Chapter 3 adapts a public good game to waste management issue. In the context of greenhouse gases emissions reduction, policy makers design different types of incentives to act on individual behaviors. In the experiment, the players have to cooperate in order to reduce the cost of waste sorting treatment. We compare the impact of a sanctioning tax with the impact of a nudge in the form of a third party advice. Results show that advice, sanction and the threat of sanction significantly increase cooperation, with a stronger disciplinary effect for the applied sanction. Chapter 4 considers the nature of individuals' preferences expression, namely a monetary salient effort and an attentional effort. In this chapter we investigate the relation between social preferences and attentional contribution in a pro-social environment. For this purpose, we present a new experiment where subjects have to invest real attention, then we compare a selfish and prosocial incentives. The results show that both incentives increase allocated attention. Moreover, in contradiction with economic theory, we find that subjects' social preferences failed to explain attentional contribution in pro-social environments

In the wake of climate change, freshwater resources in France are exposed to intense pressure. Extreme events are intensifying with more water-related natural disasters and more frequent droughts. Water reuse is one of the solutions promoted by the French government to overcome local shortages of water. This practice remains at a preliminary stage and its social acceptability raise concerns. This thesis was funded under an industrial agreement (Cifre contract) and partly by the Rhône, Mediterranean and Corsica Water Agency. It was co-supervised by SCP, IMSIC and INRAE and contributed to the Read'Apt project. It focuses on the integration of a technical object, water reuse, within a territory facing chronic aridity, the Luberon area in France. This doctoral work places social acceptability at its core: it starts by deconstructing this “embarrassing” concept and then mobilizes it, not as a goal to be reached, but as a principle of co-construction. This work offers a detailed analysis of the social reception of water reuse. The originality of this action-research is also to address a bidirectional communication scheme within mediation spaces. Participatory communication activities have been designed towards a joint transformation of the technical object and its user. A mixed methodology based on surveys, interviews, workshops and serious game sessions was deployed. The results obtained lay the first steps to associate the terms participation and acceptability in the field of environmental communication

By focusing on 38 stock marketed companies from the CAC 40 from 2007 to 2013, to question on the link between environmental published information and market valorization is at stake. The response is organized trough 3 main objectives by performing an explorative analysis: First, one may identify an impact from the disclosure about environmental practices on the stock market thank to the event study methodology. Publication of the annual registration documents hold attention in order to appreciate public environmental communication: Thus, the issue is not to evaluate firms’ policies but to understand how do they behave concerning their communication, by performing a content analysis based on 228 registration documents. Then, one may use an innovative data sources through the Global reporting initiative (GRI) standardized items to explore and to score the published information concerning environmental practices, leading to build an disclosure index. Last, one may test the relationship between the disclosure practices and the impact of this disclosure on the stock market. Companies tend to be more and more transparent according to the GRI, as on the items itself than on their whole practices. When they circulate their registration documents, there are significant cumulated abnormal returns. As a result, one may observe that disclosure on environmental practices explains more the abnormal returns than financial datas, as the leverage variation, even if this effect tend to be less and less important with time
Avisseau, Cendrine. "Langage(s) et pouvoir symbolique en organisations." Thesis, Paris 4, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA040102.
The thesis queries how organizations impose their behavioral and verbal expectations to their members. They use the coding nature of the language as a technique of enslavement. By the sole language, they settle their authority in a hierarchy of places, statuses, and behaviors. However, the master is never totally powerful, nor is the servant totally dominated. We believe that a negotiation for the roles takes place in the words and the postures that are partly challenged and re-created by individuals. During the deployment of a project of management of the performance at Schneider Electric, as well as during communication courses to engineering students at the CNAM, we observed how people appropriate the language and ethos prescribed by the organization. A mimesis of the prescribed models is at work. However, it is not duplication but re-creation. The desire to match the models of the organization faces the urge to be oneself, that is to be unique. In the midst of a forest of symbols and myths that create figures of domination, individuals duplicate, resist, and make up. Their re-creation mingles with an identity quest. They are a permanent rebuilding self-esteem because identity is not a static process. However, implementing the consistency of the route passes through a story in itself

This thesis is the result of a five-year research project in the field of communication sciences, focused on the communicational understanding of the concept of "environmental responsible behaviour"(REB). The concept REB was launched in the early days of the environmental movement and has become an important factor in the environmental discourse, especially within the domain of environmental education. However, many authors argue that no real environmental behavioural changes have occurred or that the extend of these changes has been too limited. Therefore, our main concern was to understand if and why the REB is difficult to promote and to adopt. This main question was studied from a communicational perspective in order to understand the individual and the social factors that lead to adoption or rejection. In order to focus our research, we postulated that the REB could usefully be understood as an innovation, and therefore innovation theory was combined with communication theory in order to construct a framework for analysis and understanding. The case of water in Mexico allowed us to explain how REB is defined, translated and implemented. Based on a series of field interviews and accompanied observation, we followed the REB through the communicational dimension, analysing three cases that are typical for countries like Mexico: agricultural water use, domestic water use and water related to health concerns. We observed perceptions and interests as key elements in the communication interactions concerning the adoption of the conceptual innovation. We observed negotiation and dispersion as key processes that allow the innovation to evolve. The major outcome of the thesis is that, using the communicational approach, the difficulties to change environmental behaviour (the environmental failure) can be explained by both the lack of stability of the innovation as well as its discursive success
Abi, Karam Dana. "Crise écologique et représentation médiatique : le cas libanais dans sa presse écrite nationale." Thesis, Bordeaux 3, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013BOR30056/document.
To speak of the environment in a country as Lebanon seems, at first sight for most Lebanese, a bit strange. Indeed, the continuous episode of war and consequently political and economic instability in the country hinders the introduction of ecology among the citizens’ preoccupations. Nevertheless, the reasons of the Lebanese environmental crisis cannot be reduced to the war consequences. They are more complex including political management, citizen’s conscience as well as media coverage. The protection of the natural resources starts with an intellectual metamorphosis. The environmental communication imposes itself then in various ways in the public space. This research in information Sciences and Communication questions the environment representation in three important Lebanese newspapers (Annahar, Assafir and L’Orient Le Jour). How is done the mediatization of this theme ? What is the nature of the ecological stakes ? To which point does the press manage to raise in the public opinion the awareness of the danger that surrounds it ? Do the social representations of the environment transform the choice and the events treatment ? To answer this, we conduct a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the press articles in two times: one ordinary and another troubled. Joining two disciplinary fields (Medias and environment) brings us to a double reflection. On one hand, it allows us to question the present written press role in Lebanon, and on the other, it constitutes an opportunity to understand how a newspaper works and the laws defining the information choice and construction while taking into account the polemic character of the environment

The relationship between ICT, environment and energy efficiency causes a lot of controversies. Theseconcepts are rarely associated, especially for smaller emerging economies. Yet each has a significant impacton the other. The negative effects of ICT on the environment are various, in the same way, use and diffusionof ICT can also benefit the environment. This PhD thesis put forward further study impacts of ICT on energyconsumption and emissions of greenhouse gases, at the macro level for the case of Tunisia. The generalcontext of this thesis focuses on the relationship between the environment and the innovation theory, whilethe specific context focuses specifically on the energy consumption of ICT. Our approach is inserted underthe theory of innovation and economic basis for the use of new technologies, specifically at the intersectionof industrial economics and environmental economics. Our research focused on three main aspects:theoretical, empirical and descriptive. Firstly, this study handled the theory of environmental innovationsand its relationship with general purpose technology and ICT especially. Secondly, this thesis has allowed usto develop a detailed descriptive analyses based on the data and statistics from the World Bank, and otherinstitutions. Thirdly, a set of statistical tests and rigorous econometric models were applied to determine thelink between ICT investment and energy efficiency in Tunisia

The debate on the impact of advertising emerged several decades ago, thus giving rise in recent years to an acceleration of scientific production concerning the different advertising approaches that act on consumer persuasion. The literature has highlighted two advertising approaches, a “soft-sell” approach based on an implicit, emotional message and a “hard-sell” advertising approach based on the factual and rational dimension. So far, the effectiveness of these two approaches has not been studied in Arab-Muslim countries despite the increasing weight of their economy. The objective of this doctoral research is to contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms of consumer persuasion in the face of “soft-sell” and “hard-sell” advertising and the practices of professionals in a Moroccan versus French context. The first part of this work builds the theoretical framework making it possible to respond to above mentioned the problem. To this end, we carry out, in a first part, a review of the models of communication and advertising persuasion (chapter 1) to understand the meaning of communication and its foundations before turning to the clarification of the “soft-sell” and “hard-sell” approaches (chapter 2), and the understanding of Arab-Muslim and European cultural specificities (chapter 3).In the second part, by relying on the possibility that the cultural specificities of the target modify the perceptions of the advertisements, we explore the managerial practices in an Arab-Muslim context (Chapter 4). In addition, thanks to an exploratory qualitative study carried out in France and Morocco, we are trying to understand the perceptions of consumers and advertisers toward advertising and, in particular, “soft-sell” and “hard-sell” approaches (chapters 5 and 6).Finally, the third part of this research deals with the construction of the conceptual model and the definition of the hypotheses (chapter 7) from the theory of Okazaki, Mueller and Taylor (2010). Our experimental choices are then presented (chapter 8). This is followed by the tests of our research hypotheses and presentation of the main results of our analyses (chapter 9). Results reveal differences concerning the impact of “soft-sell” and “hard-sell” approaches on the target's memorization, attitude and purchase intention. These results differ in particular according to the degree of religiosity and the environmental concern of the individual. The limits of this work refer to perspectives and new avenues of research

The signaling perspective argues that when a firm limits the extent of its sustainability disclosure, it prevents stakeholders from evaluating its achieved degree of sustainability performance, and may thus reach higher financial returns. However, transparency is an institutionalized norm that stakeholders value, and firms may not be able to limit their disclosure without being penalized. This thesis therefore raises the question of whether firms can strategically limit their sustainability disclosure to reach higher profits, or if pressure for conformity to the norm of transparency exists and weakens such strategies. Using econometrical methods, this thesis empirically shows that sustainability raters do not converge in their assessment of firms’ sustainability performance, supporting the assumption that firmsmay prevent stakeholders from evaluating their actual degree of sustainability. It also shows that less sustainable and more reputed firms are more likely to limit their sustainability disclosure, that highly sustainable firms encounter higher short and long term financial returns when they adopt an extensive disclosure, and that less sustainable firms, on the contrary are more profitable in the short term when theylimit their disclosure. This thesis therefore shows that in line with the signaling perspective, firms may strategically adjust the extent on their disclosure to reach higher returns in the short term. However, in the long term, normative pressure for transparency is too high and weakens the benefits of such strategies

This thesis aims to provide elements about the theoretical status of Time Perspective (TP), and more specifically of future time extension (as measured by the Consideration of Future Consequences scale - CFC). Focusing on the idea of double contextualization, our results show, on the one hand, that CFC plays a contextualizing role since it influences the way in which individuals apprehend environmental issues. If this contextualizing role is well established, we show on the other hand that the effect of CFC is a contextualized effect, depending on the social issues associated with the situation. This way of dealing with time experience is less explored in the literature, whereas it is precisely by taking account the context that a psychosocial approach distinguishes itself from a more personality-based conception. To highlight this contextualized effect, we first showed that CFC was dependent on the social insertion of the subjects. We then put in evidence the dynamic and socially marked character of the relationship between CFC and pro-environmental behaviors, mediated by the perception of ecological risks, a socio-cognitive variable. In an aim of triangulation, we also conducted a series of experimental research based on the binding communication paradigm. The results indicate that the CFC score influences the sensitivity to the arguments of a persuasive message and the acceptance of a costly query (contextualizing role), these effects being modulated by the context (control condition vs. persuasive communication vs. binding communication). Finally, we observed that it was possible to modify, at least momentarily, the sensitivity about long-term consequences of behaviors through a binding communication procedure

This thesis is composed of four essays. The first two essays draw on behavioral corporate finance and show to what extent French firms can take advantage of investors’ erroneous judgment. We first study the impact of the familiarity bias on ownership. We find that firms with higher notoriety level, mostly small-cap ones, have higher individual ownership. Second, we test the catering hypothesis in dividend policy, in that whether firms are more prone to pay dividend when payers trade at a premium relative to non-payers. The results validate this hypothesis and support short-term opportunistic behavior by French firms, especially when family control is low or institutional ownership is high. The last two essays examine the impact of climate change issues on firms’ decisions, in an international setting. Especially, the third essay demonstrates that eco-efficiency-based strategies significantly matters to the financial outcomes of mergers and acquisitions, which supports the economic rationality underlying carbon reduction investments, and claims for a win-win relationship between corporations and their environment. The fourth essay that deals with the environmental voluntary disclosure, emphasizes the increasing interest of stakeholders toward this kind of information: firms with higher exposure, higher leverage and those that are in the scope of regulators tend to be more transparent in terms of carbon reporting. Moreover, firms that are less eco-efficient show higher probability to report on their environmental performance, suggesting the search for legitimacy
Frazier, Erica Lynn. "The Green New Deals of Great Britain, Ireland and Northern Ireland : A Critical Discourse Analysis." Thesis, Orléans, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017ORLE1159.
This thesis follows the evolution and transmission of the Green New Deal concept through time and space by examining the British, Irish and Northern Irish Green New Deal documents from a comparative perspective. It uses quantitative and qualitative methods including Corpus Linguistics, Critical Discourse Analysis and the collection of elite oral history interviews to respond to the guiding question, “How can the discourses and embedded ideologies of the Green New Deals of the Republic of Ireland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland be understood in relation to one another and their respective contexts?”. The thesis explores the influence of contexts and groups on the discourses and ideological contents of the Green New Deal texts, ultimately finding that though the Green New Deals have the potential to act as transitional documents in a move towards a just green political economy, further work must be done to develop key themes in the texts and ensure they realise their transformative potential rather than simply reinforcing currently dominant ideologies

Legal writing can be analyzed both as a communication and an argumentation means before the French criminal courts. It is undoubtedly a useful and required way to a good rendering of justice, and moreover a deeply mutating one in our era of new technologies. Formal by essence, it is only through writing that the legal decision can be executed. If it mainly functions as way of proof within the institution, its nature is evolving. The access to databases consisting of these written records is easier through the internet. The legal writing is both more democratic through easier access, and hermetic as its authorized producers are limited in number. While present at every layer of the criminal procedure as it assures its secrecy (from the investigation to the deliberation), it is becoming less safe. Digitalized, it is coveted and sometimes penetrated from the outside, thwarting the obligation of confidentiality that binds the institution. Digital, it allows an unmatched archiving and data-processing. Some procedures, beyond their mere digitalization, are exclusively digital before the “Cour de cassation” criminal chamber, thanks to a tailored virtual desktop. This change in support is double-sided. Unprecedented progress as well as potential threats are to be expected. While the traditional paper writing no longer matches our modern needs, its digital counterpart has not grown enough in usage and authority to be accepted as such. The current dissertation thesis itself is a the crossroads of these trends, between an imperfect paper writing and a still struggling digital writing

This research reflects on the new forms of social mobilization that emerge in response to the advent of digital networks and the environmental crisis. We value two epistemological axes. The first based on the question of technology beyond the instrumentality and the second on the notion of ecosophy. Our empirical observation network is formed by the groups mobilized around the environmental theme relating to the more than three hundred canalized and buried rivers in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, henceforth visible through digital devices and architectures such as maps, audio guides, collaborative platforms, web sites and social networks. From the immersion in these networks, we try to expand our sociological view considering the social not as the field of exclusive human acting, but as consisting of different beings and modes of existence, including technical objects, natural elements and natural phenomena. In this sense, we propose in this research the concept of movements-network to give form to these new mobilizations and associations characterized by hybridity between the territory and urban, environmental and technical spaces, as well as the desire to dwell the Earth otherwise

Ubiquitous in the business management’s strategy, environmental issues are a distinctive factor in what drives the manufacturing sector. Taking part in a trend that requires a high level of enthusiasm, environmental concerns of manufactured products are on the rise as of recent. Based on the ideology of sustainable development and on eco-design statements, companies tend to take advantage of environmental properties by using it as a main sales argument. As a result, environmental communication is gaining more and more importance through advertising so-called green marketing. Self-declaration is among these communications tools. Self-declaration is the most permissive tool and allows great freedom to manufacturers. In regard to its flexibility, it lacks guidelines. Therefore, it often results in a miscommunication and a misunderstanding where veracity can be questioned. The lack of accuracy of the argument can be the result of the industry’s unwillingness or a good will with pitfalls concerning the comprehension and use of the norm’s guidelines. The opinion of stakeholders is thus divided. Therefore, the reputation of self-declaration has been under the spotlight for sometime. Although being the simplest, cheapest and less time-consuming of all environmental tools, self-declaration is still highly used in the manufacturing industry. As 98 % of Québec’s industry is represented by small businesses (BDC, 2011:1), their reality of having limited resources makes it appropriate to use self-declaration. The popularity of the environmental compliance attracts consumers interest towards green products. However, the global controversy about those tends to impair consumers’ craze. In some cases, it may favor a cautious attitude and suggest a marketing skeems. This is likely to extrapolate and generalize consumers’ negative perceptions towards the entire green products market segment. The companies’ ethical principles are being questioned. The lack of accuracy of the argument due to the tool’s insufficient directives makes it hard to defend their arguments. This qualitative research aims to highlight the self-declaration procedures. This multiples case study document the path of small and medium businesses in Québec concerned with self-declared environmental approaches; both business managers and advisors of the Institute of Product Development are invited to semi-directed interviews. The data analysis presents the benefits of the use of “double labeling”. This strategy combines the benefits of certification and self-declaration. In the process of strategically enhancing the standing of self-declaration, ‘double labelling’ would be an option to adopt, the ultimate goal being a well deserved recognition of its merits. This research invites industrial designers to get more involved in the development of communication, due to their skills and knowledge.

Mediation is a conflict management process that involves the presence and intervention of an impartial third party in charge of facilitating the discussion. Studies of this type of interaction are often conducted through detailed analyses focused on the dynamics of turns of talk. This dissertation proposes to reframe this approach by favouring the detailed study of listening over speaking in interactions. How do participants make themselves heard, and inversely, how do they manifest their listening? Listening’s spectral quality, as much as its ubiquity, challenges any attempt at producing a set definition of the phenomenon. This study aims to describe and comprehend how listening materializes itself as it unfolds. It concentrates on listening markers identified in videos and transcripts produced from 27 actual mediation sessions opposing a citizen and an institutional representative. The Communicative Constitution of Reality (CCR; Cooren, 2012) approach affiliated to the Communicative Constitution of Organization (CCO) literature allows for an in-depth exploration of listening that challenges the binary model of positive vs. negative listening by choosing to observe its performativity in interactions. For example, it is shown that the absence of listening markers is not necessarily related to the absence of attention, or malevolence. This study aims at observing how listening markers, or lack thereof, are likely to make a difference in the unfolding of a mediation session. The point here is not to judge the participants’ listening quality, but rather to unpack the ways in which participants react to what has been expressed and what they do with that information. In other words, and following the CCR perspective, listening markers indicate means by which the existence of certain things that seem to count for one participant begins to count for the other(s) participant(s) and end up existing more in the interlocutive sphere. Two dialogic listening mechanisms were identified from the analysis of the data set, and various phenomena related to these mechanisms were traced. These phenomena include ways of making oneself heard and the participants’ listening modes, as well the absence of listening markers. The first mechanism, the listening loop, indicates a shift in one or several of the participants’ listening pattern(s); the second is the listening trajectory. Together these mechanisms bring intelligibility to human agency as well as to that of documents or emotions that come into play during the mediation sessions. Studying mediation sessions through listening precipitates reassessing specific notions in the field of negotiation, such as the notions of position and interests. This inquiry considers interactions from the largely untapped perspective of listening, thereby providing insights to conducting mediations. This framework is potentially applicable to a wider range of organizational or peri-organizational areas/fields, including negotiation and decision-making.
