Повний текст джерелаToday, information and communication technology is not only for professional use, but also for private tasks. In this thesis, the use of such technology for managing family information flow is investigated. Busy family life today, with school, work and leisure activites, makes coordination and synchronisation a burden. In what way cell-phones and Internet provides a support for those tasks is investigated, together with proposals for future technology.
The problem with coordination and synchronisation were found to be managed by a bulletin board placed at a central point at home. Besides the bulletin board, we found that calendars, shopping lists, and to-do lists are important. The families we investigated in field studies were all intensive users of both Internet and cell-phones.
Since the bulletin board played such an important role in the family life, we equipped families with cameras to be able to track what happened at those places with help of photo diaries. The field studies revealed that each family had their own unconscious procedure to manage the flow of notes on the bulletin board.
With technology, new problem will emerge. We investigated how notes on typical family bulletin boards may be visualised on a computer screen, and compared click-expand, zoom-pan and bifocal interfaces. The click-expand interface was substantially faster for browsing, and also easier to use.
An advantage of information and communication technology is that it may provide possibilities for multiple interfaces to information, and not only different terminals but also from different places. At home, a digital refrigerator door or a mobile web tablet; at work or at school, a conventional computer; when on the move, a cell-phone or a PDA. System architecture for these possibilities is presented.

While natural interaction is one of the important components that lead to successful language learning (Vygotsky 1978, 1986), communication in classroom practice in Thailand is mostly teacher-centered and not genuinely interactive. Online group communication is different because it allows learners to exercise interpersonal communicative skills through interaction and meaning negotiation, as in reciprocal speech situations. At the same time it gives learners time to think and produce language without having to face the kind of pressure they feel in face-to-face classroom discussion. The language learner's competence is thus likely to be enhanced by opportunities to communicate online, and to be more visible there than in academic contexts, although there is a dearth of experimental research to show this. One way of investigating the pedagogical potential of bulletin board discussions is to focus on the interpersonal linguistic devices used in textual interactions (Biber 1988). -- The purpose of this research is to find out whether students communicating online in bulletin board writing will exercise their repertoires of linguistic fine-tuning devices (hedges, modals, and intensifiers) more extensively than when writing academic essays. This was expected because hedges, modals and intensifiers are likely to be found in interactive discussions (Holmes 1983), while academic tasks do not create such an environment. Though hedges and modal devices are also found in academic genres (Salager-Meyer 1994, Hyland 1998), those used tend to be academic in function rather than communicative. -- In order to compare the frequency and variety of the fine-tuning devices used by learners in the two mediums, data was gathered from 39 Thai students of English at Kasetsart University, from (1) their discussions in online bulletin boards and (2) their academic essays. Tasks were assigned on parallel topics in three text types (narrative, explanatory, argumentative) for both mediums. The amount of writing was normalized to create comparable text lengths. Measures used in the quantitative analysis included tallying of the types and tokens of the experimental linguistic items, with the help of the AntConc 2007 computer concordancer. Samples of written texts from the two mediums were also analyzed qualitatively and compared in terms of their discourse structure (stages, moves and speech acts), to see which functional segments support or prompt particular types of pragmatic devices. -- The findings confirm that in electronic bulletin boards the students exercise their repertoires of fine-tuning devices more frequently, and use a greater variety of pragmatic functions than in academic essays. This is probably because online discussion fosters interactions that are more typical of speech (Crystal 2006), and its structure allows for a series of interpersonal moves which have no place in academic tasks. Text-type also emerged as a significant factor: writing argumentative texts prompted greater use of modals and intensifiers than the narrative and explanatory ones. Thus students' communicative competence showed itself most fully in the argumentative online assignments, and was not so evident in academic and expository essays. Frequent use of modal and intensifying elements was also found to correlate with the students' English proficiency grades, and how regularly they wrote online. This incidentally shows the importance of exposure to L2 in language acquisition, and that lower-proficiency learners need more opportunities to exercise their L2 resources in interactive discourse, in order to develop competence in using them. -- These research findings support Long's (1996) 'Interaction Hypothesis', that learners learn best in situations that cater for interaction; and Swain's (1985) 'Output Hypothesis', that learners need the chance to exercise their language naturally in a variety of contexts -through academic tasks as well as social interactions, which are equally important for language education. Extended performance opportunities undoubtedly feed back into the learner's communicative competence.

Datorutrustning såsom skrivare har kopplats ihop till datorer via RS-232, gränssnittet användes inte bara for anslutning mellan dator och diverse utrustning utan även som koppling till modem. Nu är eran över for RS-232 gränssnittet och en nyare och yngre version har skapats, USB gränssnittet. USB är ett engelskt ord for universal seriell buss och i namnetsa indikerar man att den är just det universal, som kan fungera på alla datorersamt olika OS. Vi har uppgraderat ett felsöknings kort även kallat "debug" på engelska. Kortet anvands för att felsöka olika enheter som används på företaget. Kortet har numera ett USB uttag för att koppla ihop dator till kortet istället for RS-232 gränssnittet. Vi har i uppgift att bl.a. uppgradera drivrutiner för USB uttaget, programmera olika komponenter på kortet såsom MCU för att kunna överfora data från en dator via debugkortet och ut till externa enheter. När jobbet är klart så ska kortet kunna användas för att felsöka andra Ericssonenheter genom att skicka olika kommandon. Detta sker via ett Grafiskt Gränssnitt på datorn som vi har skapat för kortet. Man ska även kunna lyssna och spela in datan som kommer in från dessa externa enheter.

Повний текст джерелаDenna rapport beskriver arbetet bakom samt resultatet av ett examensarbete som kretsar kring kommunikation och formgivning i produktdesignprocessen. Teo Enlund, tidigare lektor vid KTH, utvecklade i utbildningssyfte ett verktyg som heter designerns mixerbord genom vilket han drar en parallell från att mixa musik till att diskutera produktdesign. Designerns mixerbord har använts i designcentrerade kurser på KTH för att undersöka varumärkesplattformar och designuttryck vid introduktion av nya produktkoncept för befintliga varumärken. Syftet med detta examensarbete var att undersöka hur designers och deras kunder kommunicerar kring produktdesign och om designerns mixerbord kan användas som ett verktyg för att underlätta och/eller fördjupa konversationer om formgivning. Detta inkluderar samtal om formgivning mellan designers såväl som samtal mellan designers och deras kunder. Dessutom syftar detta examensarbete att undersöka vilka kommunikativa metoder och verktyg som används av industridesigners när de utformar produkter för en klient och hur designers kommunicerar internt samt med sina kunder under hela processen. Olika metoder och verktyg användes för att undersöka frågorna i syftet med detta examensarbete. En litteraturstudie och en intervjustudie genomfördes för att ta reda på vilka verktyg och metoder som används och undersöka tidigare utgivna publikationer inom designkommunikation. Dessutom genomfördes en serie workshops för att undersöka designerns mixerbrädes potential som ett gemensamt kommunikationsverktyg. I litteraturstudien och intervjustudien framkom att artikulerade diskussioner om formgivning mellan designers och kunder är sällsynta, medan designers kommunicerar form och design flytande med varandra på grund av liknande expertis och arbetsmetoder. Det är emellertid designresultatet som är i fokus och behovet för artikulerade diskussioner ansågs vara litet. Intervjupersonerna såg inte designerns mixerbräda som ett lämpligt verktyg för interaktion mellan designer och klient, men eventuellt som ett internt verktyg för designers. Baserat på resultaten från workshoparna ansågs designerns mixerbräda ha potential som ett verktyg för fördjupade samtal om design och formgivning. Workshoparna utvärderade emellertid inte interaktioner mellan designer och klienter.

Повний текст джерелаOur study concerning the transmission of skateboard knowledge reveals the role of close contacts between skaters as concerns messages received from the media. Local interaction between those who know and those who want to learn, notably between experts and beginners in places that are designed for that purpose or that are used in that way, must co-exist with the planetary messages that are broadcast by the media. This “ordinary cosmopolitism” is experienced at various levels and intensities by different skaters and expresses the “neo-modern” character of such practices; it represents an invitation to go beyond “methodological nationalism” through an in-depth study of new information and communication technologies and their uses. Our methodology is thus founded on polymorphic techniques (semi-directed interviews, interviews with skaters commenting on videos, ethnographic studies, video analysis, Internet sites, specialized magazines) and brings to light a dual learning process for skaters in Besançon and Thise: firstly, these skaters take advantage of local interactions and organize themselves in pairs or groups; secondly, they use various educational software programmes available in skateboard magazines, videos and Internet sites; or modify such media for their own use in the acquisition of techniques and values associated with skateboarding. This is notably true as concerns the rebel spirit, which is today the “shared superior principle” of this activity: skaters thus act in relative conformity through the adoption of a consumerist approach through their use of new information and communication technologies

Повний текст джерелаThe school's governing documents require teachers and students to use digital media in education and digital literacy is seen as a key component of lifelong learning. The aim is to analyze the interaction between teachers and students in problem-solving situations in mathematics education with smart-board as mediating artifact. The study has a socio-cultural perspective. The empirical data is collected through video observation and the study is open and qualitative. The empirical data consists of four filmed and transcribed sequences involving four different students and how they work with problem solving with smart-board as a mediating artifact. The empirical data is analyzed by the EMA model, based on the ideas of John Dewey's pragmatic philosophy. The result shows that the interaction is controlled by the teacher because the teacher has control over the linguistic space, but he also choose which students who are getting involved in the interaction. Interaction focus is the search for the right answer. The learning that is made possible in filming situations is to find appropriate strategies to solve the problem

En typ av hot mot hårdvarusäkerhet är attacker mot krypteringsimplementationer i inbyggd hårdvara. Sådana attacker kan ha som syfte att försöka ta fram den krypteringsnyckel som används för att kryptera hemlig information som hanteras i hårdvaran. En sådan typ av attack, som undersökts mycket under senare år, är sidokanalsattacker där djupinlärningsalgoritmer används. Dessa attacker utnyttjar den information som läcker från ett chip genom den ström som chippet förbrukar. För att kunna utföra en sidokanalsattack med hjälp av djupinlärning krävs stora mängder data för att träna det neurala nätverket som utgör djupinlärningen. Datan består vanligtvis av flera hundra tusen strömförbrukningsspår tagna från chippet som är tänkt att attackeras. Denna data märks upp med vilken nyckel och text som använts vid krypteringen, eftersom metoden som används är övervakad inlärning. När nätverket är färdigtränat krävs bara ett fåtal strömförbrukningsspår från ett liknande chip för att ta reda på vilken nyckel som används i krypteringen. I detta projekt användes ATtiny85, en 8-bitars mikrokontroller, som det utsatta chippet för attacken. 128 bitars AES-ECB användes som krypteringsalgoritm. Målet med projektet var att testa hur olikheter mellan olika kretskort och olika identiska ATtiny85-chip påverkar resultaten av sidokanalsattacker med djupinlärning. I testerna användes sex olika kretskort, där tre stycken var likadana varandra, och tre stycken var olika varandra. Datainsamlingen skedde genom att mäta strömförbrukningen med ett oscilloskop kopplat till en dator. Resultaten visade att likheten mellan de kretskort som användes för att samla in data och kretskortet som attackeras är den viktigaste faktorn för att attacken ska lyckas med hjälp av så få insamlade strömförbrukningsspår som möjligt. Om det kretskort som attackeras är representerat som en del av träningsdatamängden ses också förbättrade effekter i attackresultaten. Om träningen sker på flera identiska kretskort kunde ingen tydlig förbättring av attackerna observeras. Resultaten visade också att det finns skillnader mellan olika identiska ATtiny85-chip. Dessa skillnader visar sig i att en attack lyckas bäst om det attackerade chippet ingick i träningsdatamängden. Framtida studier kan bland annat undersöka hur effektiva dessa attacker är i en realistisk miljö samt om det är möjligt att skapa effektiva motåtgärder.

Повний текст джерелаWomen are often predominated in so-called "women´s jobs" including nursing, teaching and administration while jobs such as manager, board of director and financier are dominated by men. Hence, the corporate board has been male-dominated. However, in recent decades the number of women entering the boardroom has increased. Women are aware of their opportunites in terms of managerial jobs. Nevertheless, Sweden has one of the highest levels of gender equality in the world. Women with business experience and education are steadily moving upp the corporate ladder. The importance of female directors´ contributions on the corporate board has been recognized. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how women contribute on the corporate board in Sweden. The focus of the study lies on the perspectives of female and male directors. The study was conducted with the use of a qualitative method. It provided us with an understanding of the subject based on respondents´ experience. In order tol fulfill the purpose, eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with male and female directors on the corporate board in Sweden. The empirical data was analyzed by the process of qualitative data analysis (QDA). We have increased the knowledge of female directors´ contributions on the corporate board in Sweden. Female directors do not posses a profound understanding of female customers. There is a strong link between female representatives and enhanced board communication. Furthermore, there is no relation between female directors and companies´ involvement in charitable activities. There is no difference in the way female and male directors monitor the board.

Communications satellite operators maintain archives of component telemetry to monitor system function. Operators generally do not typically use the telemetry data for scientific analysis of the space radiation environment effects on component anomalies or performance. We partnered with four geostationary (GEO) operators, acquired >1 million hours of telemetry, and combined these data with space weather observations to investigate relationships between space weather and hardware performance. We focused on the effects of space weather on two component types: solar cells and high power amplifiers. For solar cells, by augmenting >20 years of GEO telemetry with separate GEO space weather measurements, we calculated both on-orbit degradation of Si and GaAs solar cells in an annual average sense, and also quantified the degradation of cells during severe solar proton events (SPEs) of 10 MeV protons > 10,000 pfu. A functional relationship between the amount of degradation and proton fluence is also considered. We used the calculated degradation to evaluate several combinations of space weather environment models with solar cell degradation models and found that predicted performance is within 1% of the observed degradation. These models had not previously been validated using multiple on-orbit GEO datasets. We did not find a model pairing that consistently outperformed the others over all of the datasets. For high power amplifiers, through the use of statistical analysis, simulations, and electron beam experiments we conducted a root-cause analysis of solid state power amplifier (SSPA) anomalies on-board eight GEO satellites. From the statistical analysis, we identified that the occurrence of anomalies was not random with respect to the space weather environment, but that there appeared to be a relationship to high-energy electron fluence for periods of time between 10 - 21 days before the anomalies. From the simulations and electron beam lab tests, we demonstrated that internal charging occurs in the amplifier chain, potentially identifying a cause for the observed anomalies. We substantiated an approach toward understanding space weather effects on space components by obtaining and using long-duration archives of standard commercial telemetry for scientific analysis. The analysis of large telemetry data sets of similar components over long periods of time improves our ability to assess the role of different types of space weather events in causing anomalies and helps to validate models. The findings in this work that relate deep dielectric charging to component anomalies and solar proton events to solar cell degradation make use of only a small fraction of the potentially available commercial geostationary satellite telemetry. Expansion of this work would provide additional insights on the role of space weather to the science community and to the satellite design and operator community.
