Анотація:

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify unique Victorian-Era collections of British and American missionary activity, which provide an introduction to the breadth and depth of primary sources in the field of missiology. Design/methodology/approach – This article provides a list of physical archives, digital repositories, microfilm collections and subscription databases with relevance to missionary activity in the Victorian Era. Collections were purposefully selected based on denominational importance or historical relevance. The bibliography consists of collections from both the USA and Great Britain. Findings – Through grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the digital availability of Victorian Era missionary materials has increased significantly over the past decade. Originality/value – This bibliography includes archival collections housed or hosted in the USA and Great Britain. The annotations describe the scope and uniqueness of each archive, and will be of interest to scholars interested in the field of missiology.

Various governments of Ghana have, at least on paper, shown recognition of the need for a national library, which will undertake as one of its principal responsibilities the preparation of the national bibliography. In January 1963, for example, the Ministry of Education set up a Technical Advisory Committee to advise on the need for a national library. The Committee had several sittings and it did succeed in submitting proposals to obtain some financial support if not for the building of a national library then, at least, for developing some of its functions, including the publication of retrospective and current national bibliographies.Earlier in 1961, the George Padmore Research Library on African Affairs (GPRLAA) had been established by Dr Kwame Nkrumah, former President of Ghana, in memory of his friend, the late George Padmore, with the objective of providing a centre for the study of African affairs in Ghana.

One problem facing any historical anthropologist or anthropological historian of Madagascar is locating sources that are scattered around the globe. A recent guidebook on African source materials in the United States makes important advances toward resolving this problem, notably for South African materials in the United States, but Madagascar is poorly represented there. Researchers of Madagascar can help each other connect the gaps between recognized research materials by sharing with colleagues what they have found at less well-known archives.In the United States there are numerous Malagasy archival resources that may not be evident from a quick search through RLIN, Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), or Center for Research Libraries (CRL) databases. Small archives may fall outside the range of microfilm projects, such as the Cooperative Africana Microform Project (CAMP), and therefore remain off the researcher's radar screen. Yet quite good materials, such as those at the Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, may be relatively nearby and welcoming to the researcher.

In banking operations, Asset Liability Management (ALMA) is the main focus in managing commercial banks. As a tool for analyzing and managing banking operations, it is something that is paid attention to by banking practitioners and academics. This research uses a type of library research. Bibliography research is research carried out using a bibliography in the form of books, memos and information from previous research. On the other hand, the method used is storytelling and analysis. This research results that the application of Asset and Liability Management in Islamic Banking is implemented in a special unit called ALCO (Asset and Liability Management Committee). In 1968, the British government of Prime Minister Harold Wilson lobbied behind the scenes for Rhodesia's exclusion from the Mexico City Olympics. Three years earlier, the former British colony of Southern Rhodesia had seceded from the British Empire under white minority rule and faced isolation from international sporting events. With the election of Conservative Prime Minister Edward Heath in 1970, British foreign policy shifted more heavily to Europe rather than the former British colonies of the Commonwealth, and Heath sought to allow Rhodesia to compete in the 1972 Munich Games lest it isolate West Germany and create a controversy similar to South Africa's expulsion from the Olympics. With the help of Foreign Minister Alec Douglas-Home, Heath manoeuvred Conservative Party factionalism on the issue of Rhodesian sanctions and the Party's traditionally ambiguous relationship with Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith. The merger between the Foreign Office and the Commonwealth Relations Office coincided with this increased emphasis on European foreign policy matters, the Foreign Office's traditional expertise. Ultimately, Rhodesia was excluded from the Olympics despite Heath's hesitation, and the threatened African boycott movement proved to be a critical episode toward the development of the Gleneagles Agreement, which ultimately led to the sporting isolation of South Africa in 1978. Relying on documents in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Archives, the International Olympic Committee Archives, the Avery Brundage papers at the University of Illinois, and microfilm of African newspapers, this paper reconstructs the pressures on Heath and the International Olympic Committee to expel Rhodesia.

Coconut mite, Aceria guerreronis, Keifer, which made its first appearance as pest in Mexico in 1965 as reported by Keifer, has spread far and wide. Now that 37 years have passed. Research efforts have been made on various aspects of this pest like, origin, occurrence, dispersal, symptoms, population dynamics, management practices like chemical control, bio control, cultural practices, varietal resistance/ tolerances, natural enemies, phytosanitary efforts etc. Two international seminars/ workshops have been held. Many group discussions, steering committee meetings, etc. were also held. Lots of publications have come. An earnest attempt has been made to collect the available literature on this pest which can benefit the member countries and others to know what has been done and what directions one has to move for future research and development. However, this bibliography is not the completed one. There may be many more and we will update as and when we get access to those references. We are confident that this bibliography will help to avoid duplication and take up need based research and development on Eriophyid mite.

I had originally thought of calling this piece, with a startlinglack of originality, ‘Forty years on’. It is after all exactly forty years since my own existing interests in African bibliography became formalised when I followed the option ‘Oriental and African bibliography’ at the School of Library Studies, University College London, taught by J.D. Pearson, the Librarian of the School of Oriental and African Studies. I later came to teach thisoption myself, from 1965 onwards, and indeed to follow Pearson by becoming the second to hold a chair entitled ‘Professor of the Bibliography of Asia and Africa in the University of London’. And in 2002 it will be forty years since SCOLMA (Standing Committee on Library Materials on Africa) was founded, the body that has done most in the U.K. to respond to the perceived needs of African bibliography, and one with which I have been associated for many years.

Анотація:

The article presents the main stages of the A.M. Bochever’s biography, a known specialist in special bibliography and library science, who worked in the Central Scientific Agricultural Library (CSAL) for 27 years and 19 years of that period he held the position of the director. A.M. Bochever acted as an author and editor of different bibliographic textbooks. He published above 100 works; in particular he was a co-author of a textbook on agricultural bibliography “Literature on Agriculture”. He made a substantial contribution to the theory of library science and bibliography, as well as the establishment and development of the CSAL. The A.M. Bochever’s views are presented with respect to bibliography and its place in the society, the problems of a library, the separation of functions of a library and scientific and technical information bodies, the role of coordination and cooperation in the activity of agricultural libraries. He regarded bibliography as a basis for all types of scientific and technical information, emphasized its social and cultural role. He proposed to consider the bibliography of agricultural literature as an independent branch of general bibliography. He promoted creating in the CSAL of a bibliographical information system comprising alert (an initiator of creation), recommendatory, retrospective and current bibliography. In the 1960s he organized in the CSAL the Centralized Bibliographical Information (CBI): the distribution of a ready catalog card which was both the centralized catalogization of publications on agriculture, as well as the current bibliographical information. He advocated for coordination of the work of libraries and their cooperation in library service. The A.M. Bochever’s ideas were reflected in series of industry-wide methodical documents, including “Regulation on the Unified System of Scientific Technical Information of the USSR State Agriculture Committee”.

The author reviews and analyzes theses in the disciplines 05.25.03 – Library science, bibliography and bibliology, and 05.25.05 – Information systems and processes, defended at Moscow State Institute of Culture, Dissertation Committee D 210.010.01 in support of candidature and doctorate for a degree in pedagogy and engineering. The dissertations by A. V. Trusov, E. V. Russkikh, O. O. Kondratenko, K. E. Sokolinsky, D. A. Bashirov, I. A. Vaganova and M. A. Kharintseva are discussed. The bibliographic data, information on supervisors, official opponents and organization, research findings, and issues discussed at a viva voce, are cited for each of the theses.The process of the dissertation discussion by scientific community and the members of the dissertation committee is reviewed. The Dissertation Committee offered several practical applications for the solutions as suggested by the candidates. The prospects for further studies are revealed, prospective scientific problems are set up.The publication activities of the applicants are analyzed; the open sites (conferences, professional forums) where theses findings are tested are defined. The journals interested in the publications of new masters and doctors are named.

The article is intended to inform society about the scientific activities of the Book Chamber in the field of current and retrospective bibliography, research and disclosure for the scientific community and the general public of users of literary treasures from the fund of the State Printing Archive, which is included in the State Register of scientific objects that are national property. The material is presented in the form of separate sections in accordance with the structure of quarterly informational notes on the implementation of scientific works, which are submitted to the State Television and Radio Committee, under whose management the Book Chamber is located. The content and sequence of sections are presented in accordance with the quarterly Calendar Plan for the performance of scientific works.
