The operating condition and structural state of the converter transformer are closely related to vibration. Abundant harmonics aggravate the vibration of windings and iron cores, resulting in frequent mechanical structural failures, which seriously affect the stable operation of the power system. Traditional research mainly focuses on the vibration of AC transformers without harmonics and there is no in-depth discussion of the vibration mechanism and the numerical calculation model of windings and iron cores under harmonics. In addition, the influence of harmonics, winding connection method and other factors on the vibration characteristics are not clear. Therefore, this paper analyzes the voltage and current harmonic components and contents, establishes a harmonic-vibration numerical model and compares the vibration time-frequency characteristics with or without harmonics and different valve side winding connections through vibration measurement experiments. Finally, a combined simulation analysis reveals the contribution of the windings and core to the tank. The results show that the tank vibration amplitude and dominant frequency will increase under harmonica and the valve side current will affect the dominant frequency. Among these results, when there are harmonics, the amplitude increases by three times, the vibration dominant frequency changes from 100 Hz to 400 Hz and the frequency spectrum widens to 2000 Hz. In particular, the contribution of the winding vibration under the harmonic current will exceed the iron core. The research results reveal the influence of converter transformer harmonics on vibration, which can provide a theoretical basis for numerical calculation of vibration and monitoring of operating conditions and guide the design of structural vibration reduction to reduce mechanical failures caused by vibration.

In order to solve the problem that the three-phase current of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) contains the 11th and 13th current harmonics, a multiple synchronous rotating frame transformation (MSRFT)-based current harmonic suppression method is established. Firstly, the influencing factors of current harmonics in IPMSM vector control are analyzed, and the influence mechanism of the inverter’s dead-time effect and the permanent magnet flux linkage harmonics on the current harmonics is described. Secondly, a simple current harmonic extraction method is proposed by optimizing the traditional current harmonic extraction method based on MSRFTs. The proposed method achieves the accurate extraction of the current harmonic components. Thirdly, a harmonic voltage generation method is established and is combined with the proposed current harmonic extraction method to form a current harmonic suppression strategy. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified via MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experiments. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed current harmonic extraction method can extract the current harmonic components accurately, and the proposed current harmonic suppression strategy can suppress the 11th and 13th current harmonics effectively.

For a given high-speed machinery, a significant source of the internally induced vibrational excitation is the presence of high frequency harmonics in the trajectories that the system is forced to follow. This paper presents a Bernstein-Be´zier form of harmonic trajectory patterns for synthesizing low-harmonic trajectories. Similar to Bernstein-Be´zier polynomial curves, Bernstein-Be´zier harmonic trajectories can be defined either explicitly using Bernstein-Be´zier basis harmonics or recursively using the harmonic deCasteljau algorithm. The second part of the paper demonstrates how a Bernstein-Be´zier trajectory can be combined with the inverse dynamics of a robot manipulator for synthesizing a joint trajectory that demands “minimal” dynamic response from its actuators. An example involving a planar 2R robot is also presented.

In view of the problem that harmonics analysis by fast Fourier Transform can appear a higher error and the serious phenomenon of harmonics leakage and fence, it is put forward that a improved arithmetic that FFT of special Hanning interpolation combined with wavelet transform. It is proved by theory analysis and simulation calculation that: FFT arithmetic of special Hanning interpolation can raise the precision of steady-state harmonics analysis validly. And wavelet transform arithmetic can analyze time-varying harmonics and sudden-changing harmonics precisely. The arithmetic of wavelet transform combined with FFT can remedy the defects of harmonics analysis by FFT and analyze harmonics precisely, timely and validly.

Values of thermal diffusivity (K) in different soil layers for the first three harmonics have been computed for six stations in the dry farming tract of India by using amplitude ratio and phase lag. In general, the combined effect of all these harmonics gives the values of K close to the order of the experimental values. It is found that the theory of simple heat conduction is not applicable to soil medium. While the lowest values of K in all the harmonics are found at Rajahmundry, the highest values are observed at either Hissar or Bhubaneshwar for the first two harmonics and at Pantnagar for the third harmonic. Strong annual and bi-annual cycles dominate at Hissar. Pantnagar and Bhubaneshwar while quarterly cycle is significant only at Pantnagar.

High-order harmonic generation and attosecond extreme-ultraviolet source generation have been theoretically investigated by controlling the two-color polarized gating field combined with the unipolar pulse. The results show that by properly optimizing the polarized two-color field as well as the unipolar pulse, not only is the harmonic cutoff remarkably extended, but the single short quantum path has also been selected to contribute to the harmonic spectrum, resulting in a 313 eV less modulated supercontinuum. Classical and quantum analyses are shown to explain the harmonic emission process. Finally, the proper superposition of harmonics, a series of isolated sub-50 as pulses, can be obtained.

A general phase-based harmonic separation method for the hydrodynamic loading on a fixed structure in water waves of moderate steepness is proposed. An existing method demonstrated in the experimental study described by Zang et al. (Zang et al. 2010 In Proc. Third Int. Conf. on Appl. of Phys. Modelling to Port and Coastal Protection. pp. 1–7.) achieves the separation of a total diffraction force into odd and even harmonics by controlling the phase of incident focused waves. Underlying this method is the assumption that the hydrodynamic force in focused waves possesses a Stokes-like structure. Under the same assumption, it is shown here how the harmonic separation method can be generalized, so that the first four sum harmonics can be separated by phase control and linear combinations of the resultant time-histories. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated by comparisons of the Fourier transforms of the combined time-histories containing the harmonics of interest. The local wave elevations around the focus time are also visualized for the first three harmonics in order to reveal the local dynamics driving components within the wave force time-history.

In this paper, grid connected DSTATCOM with three phase three wire has been proposed for harmonics elimination, reactive power compensation and active power injection into the grid. An improved instantaneous reactive power theory based on the least mean square is computed. The least mean square (LMS) algorithm is combined with instantaneous reactive power theory (IRPT) to improve its dynamics performance and eliminates the use of low pass filter requirement for computation of reference current. The harmonics component of the active power is estimated from LMS algorithm generated load harmonics currents. The performance characteristic of DSTATCOM is estimated with control scheme using computer simulation. The technique is based on the instantaneous transformation of instantaneous signals and taking advantage of the subsequent calculation of power from supply side to the loads. The neural network based method to estimate the harmonic online, DSTATCOM can compensate the harmonics. The computer simulation is carried out with MATLAB Simulink power system block sets.

<p>Electronic devices have a non-linear characteristic and emit harmonics into the low voltage grid. Different harmonic studies analyze their impact on the grids based on different types of harmonic models. The most used model is the constant current source. Measurements have shown that the harmonic currents emitted by electronic devices depend on the circuit topology and the existing supply voltage distortion. This paper quantifies the impact of supply voltage distortion on the harmonic current emission of individual devices and the summation of multiple devices. After a classification of the commonly used circuit topologies a time-domain model is developed for each of them. Then the individual and combined impact of voltage harmonics on the harmonic current emission of the modeled devices is analyzed based on simulations. Finally the impact of voltage distortion on the summation of multiple devices is analyzed and the accuracy of constant current source models is evaluated.</p>

The generation of the high-order harmonic and the attosecond pulse from He atom driven by the near-infrared (NIR) field combined with the XUV pulse has been theoretically investigated by solving the three-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The results show that by properly adding the XUV pulse into the NIR field, (i) not only the harmonic yield is enhanced, caused by the laser-induced excited state effect; but also the multi-cutoff extension of the harmonics can be found, caused by the absorption of the extra XUV photons during its recombination process. (ii) With the introduction of the XUV pulse, the frequency modulation of the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) can be found and controlled. (iii) By directly superposing the harmonics in the cutoff region, two isolated XUV pulses with the durations of 150 as can be obtained.

In this thesis I introduce experiments that explore the effect of different combinations of femtosecond laser fields on the high harmonic generation (HHG) process and its ap- plications to probe ultrafast dynamics. Combining a fundamental driving field with a secondary field allows for control over the HHG process in several ways. The ionisation step of the process can be altered significantly by introducing a secondary field. The elec- tron trajectories in the continuum can be controlled and manipulated by the secondary field. Further, the secondary field can be used to drive a population transfer between different states of the cation. In a first experiment, we used the fundamental pulses in combination with copies of themselves (ω + ω experiment) to synthesise a field with a new temporal and spectral structure. Using this synthesised field to drive the HHG process results in a shift of the central frequency of the high-order harmonics. We demonstrated very fine control over the harmonic energy with a setup which is significantly simpler and more cost effective than more commonly used setups, and compatible with very high pulse energy sources. In a second experiment, the fundamental field is combined with its second harmonic (ω + 2ω experiment). The addition of the second frequency results in a harmonic spec- trum consisting of odd and even harmonics, as the symmetry of the combined generating field is broken. We observed below- and above-threshold harmonics in Kr and CO2 and investigated the effect of the secondary field on the harmonic generation as a function of the time delay between the fundamental and its second harmonic. We observed harmon- ics generated by the secondary field only, a delayed onset of some even harmonic orders depending on the delay and interesting modulations of the harmonic yield depending on the delay. This experiment served as a proof of principle for the setup used for the more demanding third experiment. The third experiment combined the fundamental with its third harmonic (ω + 3ω exper- iment). The idea of this experiment is to drive the HHG process with the fundamental field, whilst the third harmonic drives a population transfer between two cation states in CO2. If the population transfer is timed right, the recombination probability for the short and long trajectory contributions can be controlled separately. Since each trajectory rep- resents a specific ionisation and excursion time, any changes of the state of the system are encoded in the interferences between the contributions of the short and long trajecto- ries. This makes so-called quantum path interferences (QPI), interferences between the short and long trajectory contributions, a useful observable to probe femtosecond and attosecond dynamics.

In Synchrotron Light Source facilities with high energy and low emittance electron beams different techniques for improving the quality of the synchrotron light for the users are applied. With this aim ALBA, the Spanish 3rd generation Synchrotron Light Source, is developing a 3rd Harmonic radiofrequency (RF) system as a system additional to the main RF system of the storage ring. This system will consist of four normal conducting active cavities at 1.5 GHz that will provide the required 1.1 MV accelerating voltage to the electron beam and will be fed by four 20 kW power transmitters. This power will be generated by modular Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) in a continuous wave mode at 1.5 GHz. On the basis of preliminary studies it has been decided that the architecture of each 20 kW power transmitter is a tree diagram made up of primary 1 kW SSPA modules connected in parallel in a combination array. The present PhD thesis is devoted to the design, building and evaluation of a prototype of the 1 kW SSPA module formed four 250 W primary power amplifier modules. Accordingly, all subsystems, namely input and output matching networks of the 250 W primary module, and a four-way power splitter, a four-way power combiner and a novel directivity compensated directional coupler for the non-invasive power monitoring of the 1 kW power amplifier were also designed and their prototypes were tested. A final evaluation of the combined 1 kW SSPA prototype module was successfully carried out and has shown good performance.
En las instalaciones de tipo Fuentes de luz de sincrotrón de haz de electrones de alta energía y baja emitancia se aplican diferentes técnicas de mejora de la calidad de la luz de sincrotrón. Con este objetivo, el ALBA, la fuente española de luz de sincrotrón de la tercera generación, está desarrollando un sistema de radiofrecuencia (RF) de la 3ª Harmónica como un sistema adicional al sistema de RF principal del anillo de almacenamiento. Este sistema consistirá de cuatro cavidades activas de conductividad normal de frecuencia 1,5 GHz que suministrarán un voltaje acelerador de 1.1 MV necesario para el haz de electrones y que serán alimentadas por cuatro transmisores de potencia de 20 kW. Esta potencia será generada en modo de onda continua a frecuencia 1.5 GHz por amplificadores de potencia de estado sólido (APES) de estructura modular. A partir de unos estudios preliminares se ha decidido que la arquitectura de cada transmisor de potencia de 20 kW es de tipo diagrama de árbol que consiste de APES primarios de potencia 1 kW conectados en paralelo formando una matriz de combinación. El tema de la presente tesis es el diseño, la construcción y la caracterización de un prototipo del módulo de APES de potencia 1 kW formado por cuatro amplificadores primarios de 250 W de potencia. También, todos subsistemas, concretamente los circuitos de adaptación de entrada y de salida del módulo primario de 250 kW, así como un divisor de cuatro salidas, un combinador de cuatro entradas y un acoplador direccional con una nova solución de compensación de directividad para una monitorización no invasiva han sido diseñados y sus prototipos han sido testeados. La evaluación final de funcionamiento del APES de 1 kW de potencia ha sido realizada con éxito y ha demostrado su buen rendimiento.

The work analyzes the operation of hybrid substations. The first chapter provides an analysis of domestic traction systems and describes in detail specific station. The next chapter follows the first in a way in which obtained parameters are converted to parameters suitable for the simulation program and presents its results. The third chapter discusses the serial communication used in one switchgear and about voltage regulator that controls one high voltage field. The last chapter verifies the simulation results obtained from the second chapter with real measurement and direct comparison is also included.

The aim of this work was double-balanced mixer implementation, which will be used like laboratory equipment. This thesis deals with design of the double-balanced mixer from first theoretical principles to a practical design of a laboratory equipment. For the practical design the integrated mixer SA612 was used. Input signal to the mixer up to 500 MHz frequency can be used. For required operation external oscillator and fifth-order low pass filter were constructed. Oscillator was designed for fixed frequency 32 MHz. Fifth-order low pass filter was inserted between the mixer and the oscillator, because of filtering higher harmonics. The second aim of the work was measuring double-balanced mixer basic parameters, such as Compression Point (P-1dB) and Intercept Point (IP3). For the IP3 measurement, another one device was required. It consists of the power combiner for mixing two frequency close signals and third-order bandpass filter, which selects required frequency band. Finally, the laboratory equipment was fabricated and its real parameters were measured.

Thin-walled components are fundamental to numerous civil structures such as bridges, buildings, storage vessels, pipes, and becoming progressively diverse with their use in wind turbines, aircrafts and shipbuilding. Identification and evaluation of damage in such structures plays a significant role in the early stage of the project conception, given that safety, performance and maintenance costs are three fundamental concepts in any engineering design. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) was originated with collaboration across many disciplines to address a variety of structural issues and prevent dramatic losses. Nonlinear guided waves combines the benefits of nonlinear ultrasound and guided waves. By means of linear parameters such as wave reflection, attenuation and transition, wave velocity, or wave modes, linear guided waves cannot detect microscale damage such as early stage fatigue, corrosion, micro-crack, or microdelamination. In contrast, nonlinear guided wave have resulted promising due to incipient damage detection capabilities and reference-free potential, and leveraged its advantages over linear guided waves. This thesis investigates the use of nonlinear guided waves via a wave-mixing approach, where two ultrasonic frequencies are used, and the spectral content of the response is expected to carry information of the damage. This thesis provides a physical insight into the wave-mixing technique for damage detection in structures. The phenomenon is investigated theoretically, numerically and through laboratory experiments. A number of published and prepared journal papers under the same topic is included in this thesis. In Chapter 1, an overview of the general concepts of Structural Health Monitoring and connected non-destructive testing techniques are introduced along with nonlinear guided wave techniques. A theoretical derivation to correlate the contact effect on a steel bolted joint with the spectral content of a signal response is proposed in Chapter 2. Thorough experiments were carried out and demonstrated the robustness of the technique. Following, in Chapter 3, identification of debonding type of damage in adhesively bonded joints is investigated through three-dimensional finite element simulations and experiments. Numerical and experimental results revealed that guided wave-mixing technique could effectively detect debonding damage. To further extend the advantages of guided wave-mixing for different materials, a composite laminate plate in studied in Chapter 4. In this study, an imaging technique relying of the combined frequency wave is proposed to identify delamination and locate the defect. The proposed approach relies on network of few transducers and does not require reference data from undamaged samples. Lastly, a short study is presented in Chapter 5, where noncollinear pulses of finite time duration and non-planar wave-front are able to generate a resonant wave that is able to measure material nonlinearity, which is subject of study for many early stage fatigue damage detection techniques. Overall, this thesis systematically revealed and capitalized the advantages of nonlinear guided wave-mixing technique for various types of damage in structures across a wide variety of materials.

This paper presents an approach for speech packet loss concealment that based on Harmonic plus Noise Model (HNM) for voice over internet protocol (VOIP). Traditional packet loss concealment technique is based on short time stable characteristics for speech, by packet loss in the vicinity of the voice features to reconstruct the lost voice data. Once the packet loss is too long, there are no short-term stability characteristics, so the performance of traditional packet loss concealment technique will drop in this case. For a longer length of packet loss in case there are good voice qualities, this paper training the model to describe the voice changes over time. The Spectral Distance (SD), Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) are used to evaluate the proposed method on different packet loss length. The experimental results show that the quality of the reconstructed speech signal of the proposed method outperforms that the traditional methods.

This chapter traces the accordion's history from its arrival at Colombia's Atlantic shores to its ubiquitous presence in popular vallenato music. Accordions and harmonicas were assimilated into local musical culture as early as the 1860s, combined with scrapers or other rhythm and percussion instruments, such as the triangle and side drum. Trading routes along the main rivers into the interior of the country allowed for the dispersion of accordions and their music during the economic boom in the tobacco-, banana-, and coffee-growing zones. With vallenato's increasing national popularity in the mid-1980s, the accordion, which was firmly rooted in the lower strata, needed a new social veneer. Soap-opera actor and vallenato accordionist and singer Carlos Vives' international success in the mid-1990s reached a level of visibility that validated the music, despite vallenato's infamous and unbroken connection with the Colombian mafia.

Strategies are recurrent structural patterns that combine the musical dimensions explored in previous chapters—key/tonality, harmony, melody, rhythm/meter, phrase structure, timbre, form—for structural or expressive effect. One set of strategies concerns the boundary between the first VCU (verse-chorus unit) and the second; here there often seems to be an effort to balance continuity and closure. Another set of strategies involves the IV chord, which is used in rather specific ways to achieve cadential effects. VCUs often reflect an overall trajectory of tension, either “middle-peaking” or “end-peaking,” through increased rhythmic density, phrasal irregularity, and emphasis of non-tonic harmonies. Other strategies may be used to shape the energetic or tensional trajectory of a song as a whole. Finally, shifts in scale or tonal center can contribute greatly to the expressive impact of a song.

The work of the Paduan humanist Albertino Mussato is the focus of this chapter. Mussato shared many of Nicholas Trevet’s views on the nature and purview of prophetic inspiration: he turned away from a predictive, apocalyptic understanding of prophecy and saw the workings of the Spirit in philosophical poetry, which combined harmonious expression with ethical import. Yet unlike Trevet, Mussato was a layman, and he staked his claim to prophetic status as a poet in opposition to much of scholastic and clerical tradition. Mussato thus became involved in a polemical exchange with a local Dominican more concerned with articulating limits than with furthering the implications of work such as Trevet’s. By insisting that the prophetic office could not be restricted to the professional theologian, Mussato encapsulated the complicated manner in which multiple strands of the medieval prophetic tradition intertwined.

It charts the convergence of the manufacture and trade of arms; diplomacy among the Great Powers and the domestic politics within them; the rise of national liberation and independence movements; and the burgeoning concept and early institutions of international counterterrorism. Key themes include: a transformation in meaning and practice of terrorism; the inability of Great Powers—namely, Great Britain, the United States, France—to harmonize perceptions of interest and the pursuit of common interests; the establishment of the tools and infrastructure of modern intelligence—including the U.S.-U.K. cooperation that would evolve into the Five Eyes intelligence alliance; and the nature of peacetime in the absence of major wars. Particular emphasis is given to British attempts to quell revolutionary nationalist movements in India and elsewhere in its empire, and to the Great Powers’ combined efforts to counter the activities of the Communist International. The facilitating roles of the Paris Peace Conference and League of Nations are explored here, in the context of the Arms Traffic Convention of 1919, the Arms Traffic Conference of 1925, and the 1937 Terrorism Convention.

Through much of the eighteenth century, commentators often described musical form in relation to a type of journey leading toward a set of specific tonal/harmonic/melodic/rhythmic goals, punctuated along the path by a standard series of resting points. Partly in reaction to developments witnessed in music composed during the high Classical era onward, since around the nineteenth century descriptions of musical form have tended to combine or even replace these “journey” metaphors with those that rely more heavily on architectonic analogies. When dealing with works composed around the middle of the 1700s, however, there are advantages for viewing musical form as it unfolds, much in the manner described by those who composed, improvised, listened to, and performed at the time. Taking as its focus the part of the movement now known as the exposition, this study analyzes the form of sonata-form works from Galant era by applying concepts and methodologies that stem from the eighteenth century, particularly those proposed by Heinrich Christoph Koch. It argues that analyzing this music through such a vantage point provides a valuable opportunity for understanding its form in a down-to-earth manner that can directly inform practical aspects of listening and performance.

Echocardiography has become the most requested imaging modalities. It is the first line imaging in the diagnostic work-up and monitoring of most cardiac diseases. Echocardiography is harmless and combines low-cost high technology with easy accessibility. The advent of the new modalities such as harmonic imaging, tissue Doppler imaging, speckle tracking, real time 3-dimensional imaging, ad contrast cavity enhancement have also contributed to expand the role of echocardiography. It provides rapid quantitative information about cardiac structure and function, valvular motion, vascular system and haemodynamics at bedside. This imaging technique is considered an extension of the physical examination. Proper technical skills and knowledge are required for the optimal application of echocardiography. Disease-focused and succinct, the present handbook covers the information needed to perform and interpret echocardiogramsaccurately, including how to set up the echomachine to optimize an examination and how to perform echocardiographic disease assessment, and the clinical indicators, procedures, and contraindications. Sections include assessment of the left ventricular systolic dysfunction and diastolic function, discussion on ischaemic heart disease, heart valve disease, cardiomyopathies, pericardial disease, congenital heart disease, and many other aspects of echocardiology. Many talented people have contributed to the present handbook, which represents the pocket echocardiography book flagship of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging. Both the Tiberian and Samaritan biblical traditions are composite in nature. In the Tiberian tradition this manifests most clearly in the phenomenon of ketiv-qere. Against the backdrop of the normally harmonious relationship between the written (i.e., consonantal, orthographic) and pronunciation (i.e., vocalisation, recitation) components of the Tiberian biblical tradition, ketiv-qere instances are a clear indication of divergence between what is written and what is read—divergence which, it should be emphasised, exceeds acknowledged cases of ketiv-qere. A similar relationship obtains between the Samaritan written tradition and its oral recitation, with the latter regularly deviating from what was evidently intended by the former. Both the Tiberian and Samaritan reading traditions are commonly characterised as later than their respective written traditions. The present study examines a series of ketiv-qere cases in the Pentateuch, seeking to explain the various forms reflected by the Tiberian and Samaritan written and reading traditions and to assess the relative antiquity of each.

Floquet theory is combined with harmonic balance to study parametrically excited systems with two harmonics of excitation, where the second harmonic has twice the frequency of the first one. An approximated solution composed of an exponential part with unknown exponents and a periodic term consisting of a truncated Fourier series is considered. When applied to a two-harmonic Mathieu equation the analysis shows that the second harmonic alters stability characteristics, particularly in the primary and superharmonic instabilities. We also look at the initial conditions response and its frequency content. The second excitation harmonic in the system with parametric damping is seen to disrupt the coexistence phenomenon which is observed in the single-harmonic case.

In this paper, we study the response of a linear differential equation, for which the damping coefficient varies periodically in time. We use Floquet theory combined with the harmonic balance method to find the approximate solution and capture the stability criteria. Based on Floquet theory the approximate solution includes the exponential part having an unknown exponent, and a periodic part, which is expressed using a truncated series of harmonics. After substituting the assumed response in the equation, the harmonic balance method is applied. We use the characteristic equation of the truncated harmonic series to obtain the Floquet exponents. The free response and stability characteristics of the damped system for a set of parameters are shown.

Random mistuning always exists in bladed disk structures. The maximum blade forced response amplitudes are often much larger than those of their perfectly tuned counterparts, which leads to eventual failure via high cycle fatigue (HCF). Therefore, it is of great importance to predict and, ultimately, to reduce the blade forced response levels as a result of random mistuning. In this paper, intentional mistuning is introduced into a simplified 12-bladed disk model by varying the stiffness of the blades in periodic harmonic patterns. The individual and combined effects of intentional mistuning, coupling and damping are examined in the absence and presence of random mistuning through numerical study. It is found that there is some threshold value of intentional mistuning and coupling that leads to maximum mistuning effects and certain relations among intentional mistuning strength, integer harmonics, coupling and damping can suppress the response levels of mistuned bladed disks, which provides useful guidelines for safe and reliable designs of bladed disk systems.

An increasing number of states are pursuing hypersonic missile development programmes, including for hypersonic boost-glide systems and hypersonic cruise missiles. Hypersonic missiles combine hypersonic speed and manoeuvrability which can result in target ambiguity, render missile defences ineffective and reduce warning times. Some hypersonic missiles are developed as delivery systems both for nuclear and conventional payloads. The combination of these capabilities may have escalatory or destabilizing effects. The Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) is the main instrument through which states seek to harmonize export control policies to govern the transfer of missile technology. It is key to ensure that the MTCR’s guidelines and control list adequately cover hypersonic missiles and related goods and technologies. This paper seeks to improve the understanding of hypersonic missiles, increase awareness among policy makers and export control officials, and inform the ongoing technical and policy discussions within the MTCR to strengthen efforts to limit the proliferation of hypersonic missiles.

The quantification of storm surge is vital for flood hazard assessment in communities affected by coastal storms. The astronomical tide is an integral component of the total still water level needed for accurate storm surge estimates. Coastal hazard analysis methods, such as the Coastal Hazards System and the StormSim Coastal Hazards Rapid Prediction System, require thousands of hydrodynamic and wave simulations that are computationally expensive. In some regions, the inclusion of astronomical tides is neglected in the hydrodynamics and tides are instead incorporated within the probabilistic framework. There is a need for a rapid, reliable, and accurate tide prediction methodology to provide spatially dense reconstructed or predicted tidal time series for historical, synthetic, and forecasted hurricane scenarios. A methodology is proposed to combine the tidal harmonic information from the spatially dense Advanced Circulation hydrodynamic model tidal database with a rapid tidal reconstruction and prediction program. In this study, the Unified Tidal Analysis program was paired with results from the tidal database. This methodology will produce reconstructed (i.e., historical) and predicted tidal heights for coastal locations along the United States eastern seaboard and beyond and will contribute to the determination of accurate still water levels in coastal hazard analysis methods.
