Enterprise cloud bus (ECBS) is a multi-agent-based abstraction layer framework, responsible for publishing and discovery of services in an Inter-cloud environment. Our work focuses on the service discovery model (HBSD) using Hadoop that leads to the challenges of automatic web service discovery patterns. It has been observed that the RDBMS can handle only data sizes up to a few Terabytes but fails to scale beyond that, so Apache Hadoop can be used for parallel processing of massive datasets. This article provides a novel Hadoop based Service Discovery (HBSD) approach that can handle vast amount of datasets generated from heterogeneous cloud services. The novelty of the proposed architecture coordinates cloud participants, automate service registration pattern, reconfigure discover services and focus on aggregating heterogeneous services from Inter-cloud environments. Moreover, this particle states a novel and efficient algorithm (HBSDMCA) for finding the appropriate service as per user's requirements that can provide higher QoS to the user request for web services.

This paper proposed a service discovery architecture (SDA) that can be applied in cloud computing environments. This architecture supports common service discovery capabilities to achieve cloud service discovery function in cloud computing environments. The main idea is that, cloud services can be divided into different cloud service domains (CSD) according to the characteristics of the functions of cloud services, each CSD has a sub-service directory, and there is also a root service directory above all sub-service directories. Setting of two-level service directories can achieve the most suitable massive cloud services quickly. Finally, through mathematical modeling, theoretical analyses, and numerical simulations, the performance analyses of the architecture are studied. The results show the validity and advantages of the SDA.

The demands of migrating on-premises complex enterprise applications to cloud dramatically increase with the wide adoption of cloud computing. A recent research validates the possibility of combining multiple proprietary migration services offered by different vendors together to complete cloud migration. Pattern based service composition has been proven as an appealing approach to accelerate the service composition and ensure the qualities in the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) domain and can be applied to the cloud migration service composition theoretically. However, current pattern discovery approaches are not applicable for the cloud migration due to lack of either existing cloud migration business process knowledge or execution logs. This paper proposes a novel approach to discover cloud migration patterns from a set of service composition solutions. The authors formalize the pattern discovery as a special graph similarity matching problem and present an algorithm to calculate the similarities of these service composition solutions. Patterns are chosen out of the solutions by similarity under designed criteria. The benchmark results and quantitative analysis show that our proposed approach is effective and efficient in pattern discovery for cloud migration service composition.

Cloud computing offers new features of sharing resources and applications to meet users’ computing requirements. It is a model by which the users can access computing resources as services offered on the Internet (cloud services). Cloud service providers offer a highly diverse range of asymmetric cloud services with heterogeneous features, which makes it difficult for the users to find the best service that fits his needs. Many research studies have been done on cloud service discovery, and several models and solutions that applied different techniques have been proposed. This paper aims at presenting the state of the art in the area of cloud services discovery by exploring the current approaches, techniques, and models. Furthermore, it proposes a taxonomy of cloud service discovery approaches. An integrative review approach was used to explore the related literature. Then, by analyzing the existing cloud service discovery solutions, a taxonomy of discovery approaches was suggested based on several perspectives including the discovery environment and the discovery process methods. The proposed taxonomy allows easily classifying and comparing cloud services discovery solutions. Moreover, it may reveal issues and gaps for further research and expose new insights for more innovative and effective cloud services discovery solutions.

As a promising topic of research, Vehicular Cloud (VC) incorporates cloud computing and ad-hoc vehicular network (VANET). In VC, supplier vehicles provide their services to consumer vehicles in real-time. These services have a significant impact on the applications of internet access, storage and data. Due to the high-speed mobility of vehicles, users in consumer vehicles need a mechanism to discover services in their vicinity. Besides this, quality of service varies from one supplier vehicle to another; thus, consumer vehicles attempt to pick out the most appropriate services. In this paper, we propose a novel protocol named RSU-aided Cluster-based Vehicular Clouds protocol (RCVC), which constructs the VC using the Road Side Unit (RSU) directory and Cluster Head (CH) directory to make the resources of supplier vehicles more visible. While clusters of vehicles that move on the same road form a mobile cloud, the remaining vehicles form a different cloud on the road side unit. Furthermore, the consumption operation is achieved via the service selection method, which is managed by the CHs and RSUs based on a mathematical model to select the best services. Simulation results prove the effectiveness of our protocol in terms of service discovery and end-to-end delay, where we achieved service discovery and end-to-end delay of 3 × 10−3 s and 13 × 10−2 s, respectively. Moreover, we carried out an experimental comparison, revealing that the proposed method outperformed several states of the art protocols.

Nowadays more and more cloud infrastructure service providers are providing large numbers of service instances which are a combination of diversified resources, such as computing, storage, and network. However, for cloud infrastructure services, the lack of a description standard and the inadequate research of systematic discovery and selection methods have exposed difficulties in discovering and choosing services for users. First, considering the highly configurable properties of a cloud infrastructure service, the feature model method is used to describe such a service. Second, based on the description of the cloud infrastructure service, a systematic discovery and selection method for cloud infrastructure services are proposed. The automatic analysis techniques of the feature model are introduced to verify the model’s validity and to perform the matching of the service and demand models. Finally, we determine the critical decision metrics and their corresponding measurement methods for cloud infrastructure services, where the subjective and objective weighting results are combined to determine the weights of the decision metrics. The best matching instances from various providers are then ranked by their comprehensive evaluations. Experimental results show that the proposed methods can effectively improve the accuracy and efficiency of cloud infrastructure service discovery and selection.

Data, information, knowledge, and wisdom forms a progressive relationship. Information is formed by data collation. Knowledge is filtered, refined, and processed from relevant information. Wisdom is based on knowledge and is accumulated through experience. This paper uses the progressive relationship of service data, information, knowledge, and wisdom to explain the expression of service knowledge graph. It is an increasingly challenging demand to discover trusted Cloud service providers with service data, information, and knowledge. We propose an efficient method of trusted service provider discovery based on service knowledge graphs, called PDG (Provider Discovery based on Graphs), to ensure that each service instance of composite services in Cloud systems is trustworthy. PDG evaluates the outputs of service providers in service classes with the help of additional service information. According to the additional service information, service knowledge is generated and trusted service providers can be found easily. PDG improves the accuracy of processing results by automatically replacing data provided by untrusted service providers with results provided by trusted service providers.

Cloud service discovery is a new challenge which requires a dedicated framework in order to approach it. Over the past few years, several methods and frameworks have been developed for cloud service discovery but they are mostly designed for all cloud computing models in general which are not optimal. The three cloud computing models are Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS), each computing model has its own set of resources. Having one single discovery framework for all three is not very efficient and the implementation of such a framework is complex with lots of overhead. The existing frameworks for cloud service discovery are mostly semantic-based and there are a few syntax-based frameworks that are using the filter by Attribute method as their solution. This research proposes a cloud service discovery framework focusing on IaaS and PaaS cloud computing models. Our framework is using a syntax-based query engine at its core and uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) for storing cloud service information. We eventually test the framework from the user point of view with IaaS and PaaS cloud services from real cloud service providers. Such a framework could be a good solution for IaaS and PaaS since it is accurate enough for service discovery and easy to update.

The cloud computing is already a well-known paradigm, known and used in both business and consumers areas. It provides a lot of advantages, but today the necessity of data security and low latency is rapidly increasing. Nowadays, in next generation networks (NGN), the fog computing paradigm is able to satisfy strict latency and security requirements using distributed computational power. In a dynamic fog orchestration scenario, the discovery of available resources and services is a fundamental aspect to achieve a good quality system. This thesis is focused on the study and comparison of service and node discovery techniques and protocols, with the aim of finding an optimal solution to the problem related to a preexisting fog service orchestration system. Once the optimal solution is detected, a working implementation is proposed and evaluated with appropriate experimental measurements, particularly relevant for network administration.

Mobile devices are now capable of supporting a wide range of applications, many of which demand an ever increasing computational power. To this end, mobile cloud computing (MCC) has been proposed to address the limited computation power, memory, storage, and energy of such devices. An important challenge in MCC is to guarantee seamless discovery of services. To this end, this thesis proposes an architecture that provides user-transparent and low-latency service discovery, as well as automated service selection. Experimental results on a real cloud computing testbed demonstrated that the proposed work outperforms state of-the-art approaches by achieving extremely low discovery delay.

A Smart City can be seen as a complex system in which different actors cooperate in order to improve, the urban area, making it efficient and sustainable. To achieve this goal, the Information and Communication Technologies, and especially the prominent Internet of Things, are called to play a key role for implementing innovative solutions, services, and applications. However, looking at the current status, the realization of the Smart City is still far from being realized; the real scenario is indeed characterized with a high level of fragmentation due to the plethora of technologies and devices present in a city. In order to bridge this gap, in this thesis, the evolution of the Internet of Things towards the Cloud of Things (CoT) is demonstrated. To demonstrate this concept, the VITAL operating system is introduced. Within the CoT, and in general in the Smart City context, one of the most important challenges is the discovery of appropriate data-sources that satisfy user requirements. The discovery is an operation that can be performed directly in-network and/or out-network. In this thesis, both processes are discussed by introducing two different solutions. Going deeply towards an horizontal unification of different data-sources and the need to have processing capabilities closer to the network, in the last part of the dissertation, the design of a gateway for the Cloud of Things is introduced. This gateway is capable to discover and manage different semantic-like things and, on the other hand, to act as end-point for the presentation of data to users, bridging the contributions of this thesis

Cloud computing is gaining a considerable momentum as a new computing paradigm for providing flexible and on-demand infrastructures, platforms and software as services. The trust management of services issues attracted many researchers in the past years. However, in cloud computing, with the highly dynamic, distributed and non-transparent nature of cloud services, this research area has gained a considerable significance. Robust trust management approaches will be essential in establishing trust between cloud service consumers and providers and will significantly contribute to the adoption and growth of cloud computing. In this dissertation, we present a novel approach for credibility-based trust management and automatic discovery of cloud services in distributed and highly dynamic environments. We first propose a Zero-Knowledge Credibility Proof Protocol to prove the credibility of consumers’ feedback without breaching consumers’ privacy. We then propose an adaptive and robust Credibility Model for assessing the consumers’ credibility in giving feedback to cloud services. To measure how experienced a consumer would be, we use the concepts of Consumer Capability and Majority Consensus. We further introduce the concepts of Feedback Density and Occasional Feedback Collusion to detect strategic and occasional behaviors of collusion attacks. To detect Sybil attacks, we introduce the concepts of Multi-Identity Recognition and Occasional Sybil Attacks. To adjust trust results for cloud services that have been affected by malicious behaviors, we introduce the concept of Change Rate of Trust. We then propose a scalable Availability Model to manage the availability of the decentralized implementation of the trust management service. To share the workload between the trust management service nodes, we use the concept of load balancing thereby always maintaining a desired availability level. We introduce the concept of operational power to determine the optimal number of nodes and exploit particle filtering to precisely predict the availability of each node and determine the optimal number of replicas for each node. The techniques presented in this dissertation are implemented in Cloud Armor, a prototype that provides a set of functionalities to deliver Trust as a Service (TaaS). Finally, we conduct extensive experimental and performance studies of the proposed techniques using a collection of real-world trust feedbacks on cloud services. We particularly develop a Cloud Service Crawler Engine for cloud services collection. The collected datasets include meta-data of nearly 6,000 real-world cloud services (1.06GB). The experimental results shows that our system i) is able to effectively distinguish between feedbacks from experienced and amateur consumers; ii) is more adaptive and robust in trust calculations by effectively detecting collusion and Sybil attacks without breaching consumers’ privacy no matter attacks occur in a strategic or occasional behavior; iii) is more scalable and maintains a desired availability level in highly dynamic environments and iv) provides an efficient support for identifying, collecting, validating, categorizing and recommending cloud services based on trust.

Cloud service attract some attention in recent year, organizations or enterprises connection information devices distributed around the world with each other using network, and provide variety services for users, including virtual hosts service、storage service and web application service, etc. Because of the rise of cloud computing, users can direct enjoy the benefits of distributed computing, the high throughput of computing power and large stooge spaces, and may be ubiquitous when user can connect to the Internet。Behind in cloud computing, including distributed computing and peer-to-peer network. But the huge numbers of information devices today bring some new problems, the lack addresses of IPv4 protocol is one of the serious problem, therefore, the IPv6 protocol has been proposed, and during the transitional period form pure IPv4 to pure IPv6, IPv4 and IPv6 will coexist in the Internet. In order to link independent dual-stack p2p networks around the world, we propose a mechanism to improve the service discovery in dual-stack cloud file service, and look forward to decrease the count of protocol translation, improve bandwidth using efficiency and good load balancing.

Increasing number of software vendors are offering or planning to offer their applications as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) to leverage the benefits of cloud computing and Internet-based delivery. Therefore, potential clients will face increasing number of providers that satisfy their requirements to choose from. Consequently, there is an increasing demand for automating such a time-consuming and error-prone task. In this work, we develop an architecture for automated service discovery and selection in cloud computing environment. The system is based on an algorithm that recommends service choices to users based on both functional and non-functional characteristics of available services. The system also derives automated ratings from monitoring results of past service invocations to objectively detect badly-behaving providers. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach using an early prototype that was developed following object-oriented methodology and implemented using various open-source Java technologies and frameworks. The prototype uses a Chord DHT as its distributed backing store to achieve scalability.

The contribution of this thesis focuses on addressing the challenges of improving and integrating the UniFrame Discovery Service (URDS) and Multi-level Matching (MLM) concepts. The objective was to find enhancements for both URDS and MLM and address the need of a comprehensive discovery service which goes beyond simple attribute based matching. It presents a detailed discussion on developing an enhanced version of URDS with MLM (proURDS). After implementing proURDS, the thesis includes details of experiments with different deployments of URDS components and different configurations of MLM. The experiments and analysis were carried out using proURDS produced MLM contracts. The proURDS referred to a public dataset called QWS dataset. This dataset includes actual information of software components (i.e., web services), which were harvested from the Internet. The proURDS implements the different matching operations as independent operators at each level of matching (i.e., General, Syntactic, Semantic, Synchronization, and QoS). Finally, a case study was carried out with the deployed proURDS. The case study addresses real world component discovery requirements from the earth science domain. It uses the contracts collected from public portals which provide geographical and weather related data.

Mobile service provisioning is intended to serve interoperable functionality from mobile devices over the network. The mobile service paradigm shifts the role of mobile devices from consumers to providers, opening up new opportunities for a multitude of collaborative services and applications ranging from sharing personal information to collaborative participatory sensing. Although many basic principles of the standard Web service approach continue to apply, the inherent limitations of mobile devices and broadband wireless access render the deployment of standard architectures in mobile environments inefficient. This research introduces two concepts that revolutionize mobile service provisioning: personal and cloud-assisted service provisioning. Personal services are intended to offer a range of user-centric data services to a limited set of consumers that are explicitly authorized by the user providing the service. Personal services facilitate prevailing trends such as social networking and mobile healthcare services, without compromising personal privacy. Cloud-assisted service provisioning bridges the gap between limited resources of mobile devices and increasing resource demands of mobile applications. This approach provides reliable and efficient mobile services, while alleviating the burden on limited mobile resources. Both approaches take advantage of the device's mobility and real time access to various context information. Experimental results reveal that personal services offer personalization based on the user's context and preferences, while cloud-assisted service provisioning, in addition to optimizing the consumption of mobile scarce resources, offers significant improvement to the reliability and availability of mobile services.
