Isolated in 1982 by Watanabe et al. from soil bacteria Frateuria sp. W-315, enacyloxin IIa is a polyenic antibiotic displaying a strong activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as a slight activity against fungi. This rather complex polyketide consists of a 23 carbons linear chain bearing 6 stereogenic centers, whose one is chlorinated, alongside a conjugated chlorinated penta-ene attached to a cyclohexane with 3 stereogenic centers. The structural complexity of this target induces a high degree of synthetic difficulty involving the synthesis of the fragile polyene unit or the control of the halogenated carbon stereochemistry. Our retrosynthetic plan features the synthesis of fragments A, B and C prior to their assemblage through esterification and aldol reactions. The synthetic strategy developed for fragment C1-C16 relies on a key Pd(II)-catalyzed alkyne chloroallylation, resulting in the selective formation of the (Z)-vinyl chloride, followed by a Pd(II)/Cu(I)-catalyzed alkyne hydrocarbation of allenes and a final 1,2-elimination step to complete the polyenic chain formation. The synthesis of fragment A C1'-C6' relies on a ring closure metathesis, a Pd(0)-catalyzed carbonylation reaction, and a hydrogenation/isomerization one-pot sequence of the acrylate formed to generate the third stereogenic center. On the other hand, fragment C C17-C23 is obtained through a key L-prolinamide-catalyzed '-chlorination of aldehydes, resulting in the stereoselective formation of the desired chlorinated stereogenic center. Finally, the successful assemblage of fragments B and C was achieved through a diastereoselective Mukaiyama aldol reaction, providing access to the C1-C23 skeleton peculiar to the enacyloxin family. This manuscript also presents initial attempts to assemble fragments A and B

In this research works, composite oxides, noble metal supported oxides and noble supported MCFs were prepared, and their catalytic performances were investigated for the catalytic oxidation of vinyl chloride (VC). The Co-Ce composite oxide catalysts were prepared by citrate sol-gel methods, and tested for the activity of VC oxidation. The catalyst with high performance is the molar ratio of Co/Ce=7:3. The XPS analyse certified that the Ce introduction favored the presence of Co2+ and Ce3+ species, which changed the coordination environment of the oxygen lattice and generated more oxygen vacancies. At last, this catalyst exhibited a good performance and stability during 110 h of time on stream at 300 oC. Ru-modified cobalt oxides were prepared and studied for the VC oxidation. The XPS analyse certified that the Ru4+ will be in synergy with Co2+ concentration and this would also change the chemical coordination of oxygen on the surface. High relative proportion of Co2+ and Ru4+ will also devote to oxygen defects or vacancies. This would increased the catalytic activity and decrease the amount of chlorinated by-products.A novel heterostructured material, cobalt phosphate-SiO2 mesostructured cellular foams (CoPO-MCFs), was successfully synthesized by the in-situ growth method. The XPS confirmed a higher amount of surface oxygen species. The activation energy calculated from Arrhenius plots showed a lower value for VC oxidation. The influence of Co3O4 morphology, including cube and sphere, on catalytic activity of methylbenzene and vinyl chloride was studied. The Co3O4 cube had shown better activity and stability than that of the Co3O4 sphere. The cube structure, with Co2+ exposed on the surface, acted as the active site of the oxidation

Dewatering and drying of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) particles from production slurries is an industrial challenge. PVC grains have a porous structure (void volume fraction, pore size distributions. . . ) which depends on the grade. The main factors controlling the drying process of pastes are compaction, particles internal structure, dispersants used during polymerization. . . We developed experimental methods at laboratory scale to follow dewatering by centrifugation and showed that interstitial water can be removed by capillarity and varies with paste compaction and interfacial properties. Under controlled humidity, the residual water content of particles is very low, but drying kinetics depends on the grade. We derived the rate of mass loss of particles by thermogravimetry under dry nitrogen flow, in adimentional units for different grades. Numerical simulations highlight the influence of pore geometrical parameters (diameter, tortuosity) and of water retention at interfaces. The use of polyvinyl alcohol dispersants has a gréât influence on drying kinetics that we were able to show independently. We characterized the wetting of PVC grains which were compacted under high pressures into pellets and found a complex behavior of the imbibition. Wetting and drying of PVC particles depend on the grade characteristics

The observed decrease in the resistivity of the PVC insulation of some high voltage unipolar cables led to question their ability to perform their function. Provide answers concerning in particular the origin of the variation in resistivity and the impact on the dielectric strength were the objectives of this study. The characterizations were carried on cables withdrawn from service whose properties had changed during their use. Physico-chemical characterization (IR microscopy, UV spectroscopy, SEM - EDX and coulometry) showed that aging of the cable resulted from a mechanism of dehydrochlorination. The presence of two modes of electric conduction in the material was observed: electronic conduction at a low temperature (< -10 ° C) and ionic conduction at room temperature and beyond. The presence of these two modes of conduction is consistent with the mechanism of dehydrochlorination. In contrast to an Arrhenius law, artificial aging showed a threshold effect in the thermal activation of the mechanism at the origin of the resistivity drop. The dielectric strength of the cable has been confirmed by tests at voltages or temperatures well beyond the nominal values. Measurements of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed occasional more or less pronounced overheatings that correlate with the resistivity drops, and can therefore be considered as being at the origin of the observed evolutions

The acceleration of radical suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) by peroxide initiation using a redox system has been investigated as well as its impact on the properties of the resulting polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This project is part of a CIFRE collaboration between the company Vynova-Mazingarbe and the MOCAH team of the UCCS Laboratory of the University of Lille. The initiation of the polymerization was based on the formation of radicals via redox decomposition of a peroxide pre-initiator, promoted by a dual-component activator, so-called “kicker”. This kicker consists of an organometallic derivative in catalytic amount, the catalyst, that reduces the peroxide and causes its decomposition combined with a reducing agent, which is able to regenerate the oxidized form of the catalyst. A preliminary development stage was carried out on a model monomer of VCM, 1-chlorobutane, to provide a first evaluation of the effect of redox initiation with the kicker before being applied in the suspension polymerization of VCM. A series of iron-based catalysts, mainly ferrocene (Fc) and its derivatives, combined with a range of water-soluble reducing agents, have been evaluated toward the decomposition of di-(2-ethylhexylperoxydicarbonate) (EHP) or lauroyl peroxide (LPO) as pre-initiators. When applied to the suspension polymerization of VCM, a significant improvement in rate has been achieved using Fc/Rongalite or decamethylferrocene/Rongalite as kicker in the presence of EHP or LPO. The use of a phase transfer agent to improve the interaction between the kicker compounds located in different phases has also been examined; the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide phase transfer agent used in this study has been shown to further improve the performance of the Fc/Rongalite kicker under certain optimized conditions. Other reducing agents, including some new ones, belonging to the family of sulfinates and potentially more soluble in the organic phase have been synthesized, using Rongalite as a starting product. Within this family, all compounds, in particular dicyclohexylammonium N-perfluoroethane α-aminomethanesulfinate, have shown a good efficiency in accelerating the rate of polymerization when combined with Fc in the presence of EHP peroxide, while preserving the stability of the reaction medium as well as the properties of the resulting polymer

The works presented in this memory enter in the context of the management of plastic nuclear waste. This study was carried out on pure PVC and industrial PVC (formulated polymer). The radiolysis at high doses (up to 4 MGy) of pure PVC in anaerobic condition involves the formation of polyenyl radicals, polyenic sequences, hydrogen chloride and reactions of crosslinking. In aerobic condition, the radiolysis at high doses of pure PVC generates the formation of peroxyl radicals, hydrogen chloride, acid water, carboxylic acids, saturated or conjugated ketones and phenomena of scission. The production of HCl generated by irradiation of industrial PVC was carried out up to 40 MGy. The HCl formed by radiolysis is completely trapped by the calcic loads contained in industrial PVC and by the water produced by these reactions of trapping. A qualitative study on the formation of the products of radiolysis highlighted that the mechanisms of radiolysis of industrial PVC are different from those of pure PVC. This difference is due to the presence of additives belonging to the formulation of industrial PVC. The irradiation of plasticizers such as phtalic esters could induce the formation of radicals being able to react, by reaction of grafting, with the macroradicals of PVC or with the polyenic sequences formed by radiolysis of PVC macromolecules. The results of leaching experiments tend to confirm this type of mechanism

This study focuses on the action mechanisms of poly vinyl alcohol-based macromolecular surfactants on the stabilization of vinyl chloride (VCM)/water emulsions used for the suspension polymerization of VCM. Five “primary” PVA (PVA I) with high hydrolysis degrees ( between 73 à 88 %mol) and different polymerization degrees ( between 700 à 2500), as well as one “secondary” PVA (PVA II) with 45%mol, have been studied on a large concentration range [0-1000 ppm/water]. The interfacial tensions and the size distributions of ClBu/water emulsions have been determined as a function of time. An original technique of on-line granulometry: the ultrasound attenuation spectroscopy has been used. The PVA I with low and are the most efficient stabilizers. For each PVA I, a direct correlation between mean diameter of droplets and interfacial tension has been established. Moreover, the importance of the interface viscoelasticity has been demonstrated. Because of their low , PVA II are insoluble in water. Well-defined colloidal particles of PVA II and combinations PVA I/ PVA II have been prepared by coacervation. For a given total PVA concentration, these nanoparticles of diameter 150-200 nm lower more the interfacial tension, and the mean droplet diameters, than PVA I alone. A Pickering stabilization by nanoparticles can be considered, in addition to the steric stabilization provided by PVA I

Some environmental chemical carcinogens can form promutagenic etheno-adducts with DNA bases, including 1,N6-ethenoadenine (etheno-A) and 3,N4-ethenocytosine (etheno-C). In order to investgate the formation/repair and to evaluate their rôle in cheical carcinogenesis, we have developed a sensitive amethod of analysis, based on immuno-affinity purification and 32P-postlabelling quantification. This method was used to analyze ethenobases in DNA from rodents exposed to vinyl chloride. In the liver, both ethenoA and C accumualte during prolonged exposure and persist after the end of exposure. In contrast, only etheno-C accumulates in lung and kidney DNA, whereas etheno-A residues seem to be efficiently repaired. The high sensitivity of our method permitted to detect background levels of etheno-adducts en non-treated animals. Ehteno-A and etheno-C Background in hepatic DNA seems to vary with the peroxydation products. The rôle of ethenobases could be endogenously formed by lipid peroxydation products. The role of ethenobases in DNA as critical lesions in carcinogenesis could be determined by an heterogeneous distribution and/or repair at the tissue and genome levels
