Abstract The perspective herein is based upon the lived experience of adult Children of Hoarding Parents (COHP). The weight of parental hoarding on COHP is not derived solely from the physical adversity of living within a hoarded home but also comes with the social and psychological challenges they carry into adulthood. The view of hoarding as a family disorder with lasting impact evokes research questions including the exploration of the relationship between childhood adversity and parental hoarding, and the application of attachment theory to hoarding behaviours and family relationships. These types of research studies may lead to policy adoption and programme development for early identification of and intervention within families where parental hoarding represents a threat to child welfare.

Atopic eczema or atopic dermatitis affects 15–20% of children in the UK and these figures appear to be rising ( Hoare et al, 2000 ; Fennessy et al, 2000 ; Ruzicka et al, 2013 ; Williams et al, 1994 ). This condition affects so many school-aged children, negatively impacting the quality of life for both the children and their families ( Hoare et al, 2000 ). Not only is it a disease causing dry skin but it can also lead to skin damage and infection, pain, insomnia and the social stigma of a skin disease ( Hoare et al, 2000 ). Although treatment and guidelines seem to have remained unchanged since the NICE 2017 guidelines, there is a real emphasis on accurate physical and mental assessment of the child with atopic eczema ( NICE, 2018 ). The role of school nurses is important as they can empower children to take control of their condition, reduce flare-ups and cope with the physical and psychological impacts of the disease.

Bronchogenic cysts are rare, benign, congenital lesions that occur as a result of aberrant development of the tracheobronchial tree during embryogenesis. They usually present during the first decade of life and are encountered predominantly within the mediastinum or the lung parenchyma. In a few instances, they appear within the neck mimicking a neoplasm and, depending on their size and site, may also cause acute upper respiratory obstruction. We describe a case of two cervical bronchogenic cysts adjacent to the larynx in a child who presented with a hoarse voice.

The genus Simplimorpha Scoble is recognized for the first time from South America. We describe a subgenus, Myrtinepticula Stonis & Diškus, subgen. nov., for three new species from the southern Andes (Chile and Argentina): Simplimorpha (Myrtinepticula) cercaria Diškus & Stonis, sp. nov., S. (M.) nielseni Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov., S. (M.) sapphirella Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; and one new species from the southwestern Amazon (Peru): S. (M.) kailai Stonis, sp. nov. We provide a pictorial differentiation scheme for Simplimorpha Scoble and Pectinivalva Scoble. We synonymize the recently erected, predominantly Australian Menurella Hoare, syn. nov. and Cosanovula Hoare, syn. nov. with Pectinivalva Scoble. We also revise the taxonomic status of the Australian Roscidotoga Hoare as a subgenus of Simplimorpha which now exhibits a Gondwanan distribution in the Southern Hemisphere, with the presence of a single species in the Mediterranean. All new taxa are illustrated with photographs of the adults and the genitalia; the leaf mines of Simplimorpha (Myrtinepticula) nielseni sp. nov. are also provided.

ABSTRACT An 8-year-old child was admitted to our ENT department for a year because of a hoarse voice. An endoscopic examination displayed that a cystic, solid lesion can be seen in the right subglottis. The lesion was removed using a CO2 laser under general anesthesia. Postoperative histopathology confirmed granular cell tumor (GCT), S-100(+), vimentin (+), and SOX-10(+). GCT, also known as the Abrikossoff tumor, is a rare benign tumor that rarely occurs in the larynx, particularly in children. This case report emphasizes that considerable attention should be given to the differential diagnosis of the laryngeal granulosa cell tumor. Given the recurrence risk of GCT, long-term postoperative follow-up is necessary.

Williams-Beuren syndrome (WBS), also known as Williams syndrome, is a rare congenital disorder involving cardiovascular problems, mental retardation, distinctive facial features and tooth anomalies. It is caused by the submicroscopic deletion of 1.5 to 1.8 Mb on chromosome 7q11.23. This paper reports the dental care to a 7-year-old child with WBS syndrome. The interview also revealed visual impairment, sensorineural hearing loss, hyperacusis, photophobia and hoarse voice. The intraoral clinical examination showed anterior open bite, tongue thrusting, excessive interdental spacing, enamel hypomineralization of the incisors, hypoplasia and caries lesions. The dental treatment included: modulating sessions to control aversion to noises, the photophobia, and the dental fear and anxiety because of his reduced visual acuity; oral hygiene instructions, dietary and daily use of a 0.05% sodium fluoride mouthwash; the permanent mandibular left first molar was treated endodontically, and maxillary and mandibular first molars were restored with amalgam. Due to the patient's heart defect, a prophylactic antibiotic regimen was prescribed prior to the dental procedures. This patient has been followed up for 4 years and this case report underscores the importance of early dental evaluation and counseling for parents of WBS patients.

ABSTRACTA number of infant burials in Britain, both cremations and inhumations, contained a consistent deposit of a small jet bear, black mineral jewellery, a coin, and a pottery beaker. Some of the graves held several examples of these items, and some a wider variety of objects. Comparison with more obviously amuletic grave deposits from Butt Road, Colchester, and Lankhills, Winchester, suggests that the coins were selected for their reverse image, and that both they and the bears are representations of guardians placed in the burials to ensure that the child did not enter the underworld alone and unprotected. These bears are set in the wider context of the animal's iconography and mythology, with particular reference to the Greek cult of Artemis, who oversaw childbirth and child-rearing. The choice and importance of materials and the positions of objects within graves are also briefly explored and the social identity of the dead infants is examined. In an appendix of other burials containing jet animals, the Chelmsford hoard of jet jewellery is reinterpreted as grave goods from the inhumation of a young woman.

Burial monuments of the Neolithic and Bronze Age, individual or in cemeteries, were often located in topographically prominent positions, or in zones of concentration that might qualify as ‘sacred landscapes’. In the Iron Age by contrast it is not obvious what governed the choice of location for cemeteries and smaller burial grounds, whether they were sited in relationship to settlement or whether there were traditional locations dedicated to burial. For some of the eastern Yorkshire square-ditched barrow cemeteries Bevan (1999: 137–8) considered proximity to water may have been a factor. Dent (1982: 450) stressed the siting of Arras type barrows and cemeteries adjacent to linear boundaries and trackways, a factor that is very apparent in the linear spread at Wetwang Slack. Though we may distinguish burials that are integrated into settlements from those that are segregated into cemeteries, therefore, there is no implication that cemeteries were remote from settlements. In fact, the contrary is often demonstrably the case. There is some evidence that small cemeteries or burial grounds were located immediately beyond the enclosure earthworks of hillforts. At Maiden Castle, Dorset (Fig. 3.1; Wheeler, 1943), the picture is prejudiced by the dominance of the ‘war cemetery’ in the eastern entrance, but the reality is that there had been a burial ground just outside the ramparts well before the conquest. A possible parallel is Battlesbury, where Mrs Cunnington (1924: 373) recorded the discovery of human skeletons from time to time in a chalk quarry just outside the north-west entrance to the camp. Some of these were contracted inhumations, and apparently included one instance of an adult and child buried together. The attribution of a ‘war cemetery’ (Pugh and Crittall, 1957: 118 evidently refers to this external burial site, which should be distinguished from the burials excavated more than a century earlier by William Cunnington within the hillfort at its north-west end (Colt Hoare, 1812: 69). Iron Age inhumations were also found, just within the rampart circuit, at Grimthorpe in Yorkshire (Mortimer, 1905: 150–2; Stead, 1968: 166–73). One of these was the well-known warrior burial, found in 1868.
