This article deals with the paradoxical situation associated with the use of the term “Charon’s obol” in modern archaeological discourse. The term “Charon’s obol” turned into an unspoken normative historiographical rule and an “indisputable” explanatory model. At the same time, the term itself is essentially “empty”, and does not need to be argued, being the evidence arising from the “natural” logic of archaeological research. Archaeological discourse turns the discovery of “Charon’s obol” into a “natural” inevitability. Almost any coin (of any material and value) of ancient and early Middle Ages found in Europe, Scandinavia, the Far East, or Central Asia, is usually declared “Charon’s obol” by researchers. Surprisingly, the further the region is located from the ancient Greek poleis, the more coins dedicated to Charon archaeologists find. Moreover, in historiography, Charon has become an unambiguous symbol not only of ancient Greek book mythology, but also of the entire ancient Greek culture. The paradox of the situation is that Charon, the ideas of the researchers about whom constitute the content of the term, did not need coins, and the “ancient Greek funeral rite” which the authors appeal to as a model of “payment to Charon” did not imply any payments to Charon. The term is a result of uncritical reading of ancient classical literature. The term “Charon’s obol” cannot be filled with content, but is an artificial ideological construction related to the research tradition based on the ideas of European Romanticism (concepts of I. I. Winkelman and I. V. Goethe).

A giant collision is believed to be at the origin of the Pluto–Charon system. As a result, the initial orbit and spins after impact may have substantially differed from those observed today. More precisely, the distance at periapse may have been shorter, subsequently expanding to its current separation by tides raised simultaneously on the two bodies. Here we provide a general 3D model to study the tidal evolution of a binary composed of two triaxial bodies orbiting a central star. We apply this model to the Pluto–Charon binary, and notice some interesting constraints on the initial system. We observe that when the eccentricity evolves to high values, the presence of the Sun prevents Charon from escaping because of Lidov-Kozai cycles. However, for a high initial obliquity for Pluto or a spin-orbit capture of Charon’s rotation, the binary eccentricity is damped very efficiently. As a result, the system can maintain a moderate eccentricity throughout its evolution, even for strong tidal dissipation on Pluto.

Abstract Pluto and Charon are the farthest bodies from the Sun that have been visited by spacecraft where more than several dozen impact craters can be accurately identified and measured. These craters form a critical record of outer solar system impactors in the trans-Neptunian environment, so an accurate census of them is important for numerous dynamical applications seeking to understand the Kuiper Belt and its evolution. In 2017, a crater database was published based on several different researchers mapping on various image products from the New Horizons mission. To date, that remains the only work that has tried to provide a complete census of the craters on Pluto and Charon. Meanwhile, Singer et al. mapped on different, more final image products, while Robbins & Singer worked to reconcile their crater populations, demonstrate general agreement, and lay out issues with the previous work from 2017. However, neither attempted to make complete databases of Pluto's or Charon's craters. To come full circle, we present a short report on a revised crater database for both Pluto and Charon that incorporates revised interpretations of geologic features on both bodies; this work supersedes our other Pluto and Charon crater database work.

Abstract We report on ephemerides for the satellites of Pluto based on the large set of astrometric measurements. Our orbit fit yielded the following masses with 1σ uncertainties: GM Pluto = 869.3 ± 0.4 km3 s−2, GM Charon = 106.1 ± 0.3 km3 s−2, GM Nix = 1.50 ± 0.52 × 10−3 km3 s−2, GM Hydra = 2.01 ± 0.27 × 10−3 km3 s−2, corresponding to the densities of ρ Pluto = 1.853 ± 0.004 g cm−3, ρ Charon = 1.705 ± 0.006 g cm−3, ρ Nix = 0.88 ± 0.31 g cm−3, and ρ Hydra = 1.21 ± 0.19 g cm−3. Masses of Kerberos and Styx remain unconstrained, and it is unlikely that we will be able to measure them even if we obtain abundant 1 mas precision astrometry during the next 20 yr. We summarize the results of orbit integration in terms of osculating and precessing ellipse model mean elements. All satellites reside in near-circular orbits, and Kerberos and Styx have 0.4 deg and 0.3 deg inclinations with respect to Charon’s orbit plane. The nodal regression periods for Kerberos and Hydra are ∼9 and ∼14 yr respectively. We found that Charon’s orbit pole can be approximated as: R.A. = 133.0073 + 0.0036T deg, and decl. = –6.2449 + 2.5 × 10−5 T deg, where T is Julian centuries from the epoch J2000, based on 5000 yr of orbit integration.

Abstract The rotational lightcurves of the Pluto-Charon system were previously believed to be solely attributed to their surfaces. However, a proposed scenario of haze cooling suggests that the atmospheric haze of Pluto could significantly contribute to mid-infrared emission, which calls for a revisit of previous analyses. In this study, we employ a Bayesian retrieval approach to constrain the haze emission from the rotational lightcurves of the Pluto-Charon system. The lightcurves were observed by the Spitzer and Herschel telescopes at 24 and 70 μm, and were combined with the latest surface albedo maps of Pluto and Charon from the New Horizons spacecraft. Our results show that including the haze emission is consistent with all current observations, with the best-fit haze flux around 1.63 mJy. This is in agreement with the composition of Titan-like tholins. However, the “surface only” scenario, which excludes the haze contribution, can still explain the observations. We conclude that the current data at 24 μm cannot constrain Pluto’s haze emission due to the degeneracy with Charon’s surface emission. Regardless, some surface properties of Pluto are well constrained by the shape of the lightcurves, with a thermal inertia of approximately 8–10 MKS and a relatively low CH4 emissivity of 0.3–0.5. We suggest that observations by the JWST telescope at 18 μm, which can resolve Pluto from Charon, could directly probe the haze emission of Pluto due to the low surface emission at that wavelength.

The close encounters of the Pluto–Charon system and the Kuiper Belt object Arrokoth (formerly 2014 MU69) by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft in 2015 and 2019, respectively, have given new perspectives on the most distant planetary bodies yet explored. These bodies are key indicators of the composition, chemistry, and dynamics of the outer regions of the Solar System’s nascent environment. Pluto and Charon reveal characteristics of the largest Kuiper Belt objects formed in the dynamically evolving solar nebula inward of ~30 AU, while the much smaller Arrokoth is a largely undisturbed relic of accretion at ~45 AU. The surfaces of Pluto and Charon are covered with volatile and refractory ices and organic components, and have been shaped by geological activity. On Pluto, N2, CO and CH4 are exchanged between the atmosphere and surface as gaseous and condensed phases on diurnal, seasonal and longer timescales, while Charon’s surface is primarily inert H2O ice with an ammoniated component and a polar region colored with a macromolecular organic deposit. Arrokoth is revealed as a fused binary body in a relatively benign space environment where it originated and has remained for the age of the Solar System. Its surface is a mix of CH3OH ice, a red-orange pigment of presumed complex organic material, and possibly other undetected components.

Abstract: When Rita Charon wrote Narrative Medicine (2006), she found that Paul Ricoeur's "three mimeses" from his Time and Narrative supported, from a literary criticism perspective, her three taxonomies of attention, representation, and affiliation, or what she called "the three movements of narrative medicine." In her appeal to Ricoeur's hermeneutic phenomenology, she implicitly invited additional application of other concepts from his work. Here, specifically, Ricoeur's concept of "narrative identity," in both its "fragility" and "mutuality," leads to an understanding of the intersubjectivity of the practice of narrative medicine. This includes a recognition that both the body of the physician and the body of the patient come into play. In other words, narrative medicine is not just about the stories each one tells from within their roles. It also accounts for the shared woundedness they experience in the pursuit of healing. Without shared woundedness, Charon's narrative medicine leaves itself vulnerable to the critique that it is a "disembodied," dualistic practice. With the recognition of the shared woundedness of physician and patient comes an alteration of the medical narratives to include empathy and compassion. Employing additional concepts from Ricoeur both supports and expands Charon's narrative claims and ethical aims.

Prediction of the occultations of the stars P126 and P131.1 by Pluto on 2002 July 20 (UT) and August 21 (UT), respectively (Clancy et al. 2002, BAAS 34, 1212) involved astrometric data sets spanning more than three months that were acquired on several telescopes. Pluto’s position in each frame was determined relative to a UCAC astrometric reference network (Zacharias et al. 2000, AJ 120, 2131) with a dual-source point-spread function (PSF) model that was fit to the blended Pluto-Charon image. The relative position of Charon from Pluto was fixed in the PSF using values from the JPL Horizons ephemeris, and the light ratio fixed at values from resolved photometric observations of Pluto and Charon presented in Buie, Tholen, and Wasserman (1993, Icarus 125, 233). Although the final predictions proved to be quite accurate (see http://occult.mit.edu/research/occultations/Candidates/Predictions/P126.html and http://occult.mit.edu/research/occultations/Candidates/Predictions/P131.1.html), empirical corrections were made to the offset of Pluto from its ephemeris. These corrections were based on the residuals of Pluto’s measured position from its ephemeris, which were sinusoidal. The consistency of the fitted residual phase and amplitude between all prediction data sets implies either an incorrect Charon to Pluto mass ratio was used for calculating Charon’s ephemeris, or that we used incorrect Charon/Pluto light ratios in this reduction. Resolved images of Pluto-Charon were taken over a period of six days (2003 April) in nine filters at the Magellan 6.5-m Clay telescope in order to uncover the cause of these residuals. Combined with other Magellan Pluto frames taken in 2001 and 2002, the images were fit with a dual-source PSF model. The Charon/Pluto light ratio determined from the PSF modeling was then plotted against orbital phase and fit with a sinusoidal model for each filter. A strong trend with wavelength was found for the mean light ratio of Charon to Pluto. This trend partially explains the residuals found, as the astrograph and CTIO data were taken in a filter of mean wavelength ~720nm, whereas the Buie et al. resolved light curve was obtained in the F555W filter of mean wavelength ~537 nm. This trend can account for 0.026” of the 0.053” residual amplitude. However, if the only other effect were an erroneous Charon/Pluto mass ratio, the remaining residual would imply a mass ratio of 0.086 rather than 0.120 (as used in the JPL Horizons ephemeris). A value of 0.086 does not agree with recent mass ratio measurements (0.157 ± 0.003 by Young et al. 1994, Icarus 108, 186; 0.124 ± 0.008 by Null and Owen 1996, AJ, 111, 1368; and 0.122 ± 0.008 by Olkin et al. 2003, Icarus 164, 254), thus more work must be done in these analyses to understand the cause of these residuals. AbstractCharoite, ideally (K,Sr,Ba,Mn)15–16(Ca,Na)32[(Si70(O,OH)180)](OH,F)4·nH20, is a rock-forming mineral from the Murun massif in Yakutia, Sakha Republic, Siberia, Russia, where it occurs in a unique alkaline intrusion. Charoite occurs as four different polytypes, which are commonly intergrown in nanocrystallme fibres. We report the structure of charoite-96 (a = 32.11(6), b = 19.77(4), c = 7.23(1) Å, β = 95.85(9)°, V = 4565(24) Å3, space group P21/m), which was solved ab initio by direct methods on the basis of 2676 unique electron diffraction reflections collected by automated diffraction tomography and refined to R1/wR2 = 0.34/0.37. The structure of charoite-96 is related to that of the charoite-90, which was also solved recently. Both structures are composed of three different types of dreier silicate chains running along [001] and separated by ribbons of edge-sharing Ca- and Na-centred octahedra. In the structure of charoite-96, adjacent blocks formed by three different silicate chains and stacked along the x axis, are shifted by a translation of 1/2 c. InFrogsAristophanes presents the comic katabasis of Dionysus, whose quest is to bring back the recently deceased Euripides and restore him to the Athenian literary scene. In the prologue Dionysus and his slave, Xanthias, seek out Heracles and ask his advice about the journey below. After some comic play, as they consider various short-cuts, Heracles finally gives Dionysus a serious lesson in Underworld geography (136–64). The various items on this itinerary – Charon, terrifying beasts, filth and excrement, sinners, μσται – are all encountered on Dionysus' journey, each transformed for humorous effect. Dionysus crosses the lake on Charon's barque, but is forced to row (180–270). At this point we have the introduction of the off-stage chorus that gives the play its name. In what appears to be a kind of false parodos Dionysus engages in a metrical tug-of-war with the frogs that finally spoils his rowing rhythm. After disembarking, he is joined by Xanthias, who was forced to walk around the lake, and they find themselves in the place of σκτος κα βρβορος (273), where they see the miscreants (here, comically, the audience). In place of ϕεις and θηρα μυρἱα δειτατα (144), our heroes are terrified by the figure of Empousa, who is seen by Xanthias alone (285–305). When Empousa is gone, there appears the chorus of initiates, whose song (with comic interruptions from Dionysus and Xanthias) constitutes the parodos (316–459).

This study used a relatively simple price and an unweighted aggregate price index number used to calculate the level of production cost annually in the form of a percent. The use of this index number is to compare the current year period divided by the based year and multiplied by 100%. The purpose of this study is to analyze the comparison of production costs from animal feed companies in Indonesia, namely PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia. Tbk and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk in 2014-2018 with 2014 as the base year. Based on the calculation of production costs using the index number method at PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk there is an increase and decrease in production costs. PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk has better production costs than PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk because the profits of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk company have increased more than PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk every year.

The chain-shaped Ca-octahedra connected through common faces encircle a radical and close in a K-octagon. In contrast to charoite with banded-tube radicals, an isometrically-island silicon radical is identified.

Based on the criteria set out in the company PT Charoen Pokphan Indonesia Tbk Medan to obtain the best quality corn kernels using grade 1 to grade 4 and ranking. The results of testing these methods are produced a decision on an alternative with a total value of 86.7%. So this method is needed to evaluate the determination of the best quality corn kernels to produce the best decisions

AbstractThe crystal structure of charoite was investigated mainly by using selected-area electron diffraction (SAED), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM). SAED and XRD patterns indicate that the structure has a monoclinic cell: a = 32.296, b = 19.651, c = 7.16 Å, β = 96.3° and V = 4517 Å3. The space group inferred from systematic absences and HREM images is P21/m. A model of the charoite structure is proposed that is based on the features of related Ca-alkaline silicate structures and HREM images. The structure of charoite consists of three different silicon-oxygen radicals (polymerized SiO4 tetrahedra) which are located between Ca polyhedra. Two of these radicals form continuous tubular structures comprising pectolite-like tetrahedral chains. Calcium polyhedra are joined to form blocks, each of which consists of four columns sharing edges and apices. Potassium and H2O molecules are probably located inside the tubular silicate radicals. From these results, a general formula is derived: K6-7(Ca,Na)18[(Si6O17)(Si12O30)(Si18O45)](OH,F)2.nH2O with two formula units in the unit cell (Z = 2).

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Return On Asset (ROA) dan Earning Per Share (EPS) terhadap Harga Saham PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, Tbk. Periode 2012-2021 baik secara parsial maupun simultan. Metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan sampel laporan keuangan dan harga saham dari PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk selama 10 tahun, populasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh laporan keuangan PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk. Teknik analisis yang digunakan antara lain rumus manajemen keuangan, uji asumsi klasik, uji regresi linier berganda, uji koefisien determinasi, uji t dan uji F dengan bantuan program Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) versi 25. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Return On Asset (ROA) secara parsial tidak berpengaruh terhadap Harga Saham dengan tingkat signifikasi 0,532 > 0,05. Earning Per Share secara parsial berpengaruh terhadap Harga Saham dengan tingkat signifikan 0,000 < 0,05, serta secara simultan Return On Assets dan Earning Per Share setelah dilakukan pengujian hipotesis dengan menggunakan uji F diperoleh Fhitung > Ftabel atau 30,580 > 5,591dan dengan nilai signifikasi 0,000 < 0,05. Return On Assets dan Earning Per Share memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap harga saham pada PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk Periode 2012 – 2021.
