Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the nature of ISO 9001 certification and diffusion in the USA in relation to organizational supply chain position, quality maturity, and supplier quality maturity. Design/methodology/approach Data for comparison in this study comes from an e-mail survey questionnaire of supply chain professionals across the USA. A pilot survey was initially e-mailed to 100 supply chain professionals and preliminary data from 27 respondents were used to revise the questionnaire. Respondents to the revised questionnaire returned 565 e-mailed questionnaires out of 2,924 active e-mail addresses. Findings The results suggest that companies adopting ISO 9001 are likely doing so as part of an overall quality management program more so than from direct market pressure. It appears that ISO 9001 certification rates differ by organizational position in the supply chain. ISO 9001 certified organizations are more likely to have quality programs of greater maturity and suppliers with greater quality maturity than organizations that are not ISO 9001 certified. Certified organizations are also more likely to use suppliers that are ISO 9001 capable or certified than non-ISO 9001 organizations. Research limitations/implications Not all industry groups or supply chain positions were well-represented due to some small sub-group sizes. Practical implications The study of ISO 9001 certification in US organizations has been lacking in the literature. Given the weak adoption rate of ISO 9001 in the USA, this study helps characterize ISO 9001 certification from a supply chain perspective and explores possible reasons for low certification rates. Originality/value This research extends the knowledge of quality management in the supply chain by studying ISO 9001 certification in relation to supply chain position and differences in quality maturity between certified and non-certified organizations in the USA.

This study examines the corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance of listed companies in Taiwan by looking at how companies meet their CSR obligations and by exploring how employing supply-chain certified public accountants (CSRSCPAs) affects the quality of their earnings. However, despite the benefits stemming from enhanced information corroboration and expertise spillover, CSRSCPAs face the challenge of potential information collusion. Hence, this study looks at supply-chain CPAs in the context of the company’s CSR performance to find out the impact of the company’s financial statements. It finds that the CSRSCPA has a negative effect on discretionary accruals. The inclusion of different supply chain streams reveal that upstream CSRSCPA are more likely than mid-stream and downstream CSRSCPAs to receive favorable reactions from market participants. Services have become the engine of growth in a large number of economies in the developing world. Additionally, the rapid development of ICT, and emergence of transnational corporations, has not only made cross-border provision of services easier, but has also increased the demand for and trade in services; developing countries today are increasingly emerging as cost efficient providers of key business and professional services, thereby becoming key players in the services supply chain. In the absence of explicit tariff barriers, as compared to goods, over the years, countries have more intensively regulated services on grounds of protecting consumer interest and ensuring quality and excellence of professional services provided. It is also true that as cheap labour is the resource with comparative advantage in most developing countries, and especially India, access to developed country markets by means of cross-border supply and movement of natural persons have the potential of conferring the maximum benefits from services liberalisation. However, challenges for market access in developed countries in these two modes of supply lie in the range of regulatory barriers, including burdensome visa formalities, stringent quotas and qualification requirements, and discriminatory taxes, levies and standards faced by the developing country service providers. Most professions are closely regulated and certified, and often self-regulated, usually though sectoral trade associations. This paper brings out the key elements of the prevalent regulatory measures and barriers to market access for developing country service providers, and assesses how (if at all) the proposed disciplines on domestic regulations would help in securing or easing market access problems of developing country professionals in the developed country markets. An analysis of select professional services in India indicate that for developing countries in general there exist many elements in the proposed disciplines that are not only desirable but would help them to get better market access into key developed country markets. Also it appears that given the prevailing weaknesses of the domestic legal and institutional framework in most developing countries, commensurate changes in the domestic legal and regulatory systems would need to be incorporated prior to the adoption of the DR Disciplines so as to enable countries to fulfill the requirements under such disciplines. Incorporation of suitable S&DT provisions is needed to ensure proper implementation of the said disciplines and satisfy the development agenda of the Doha Round.

Global health efforts such as malarial control require efficient pharmaceutical supply chains to ensure effective delivery of quality-assured medicines to those who need them. However, very little is currently known about decision-making processes within antimalarial supply chains and potential vulnerabilities to substandard and falsified medicines. Addressing this gap, we report on a study that investigated decision-making around the stocking of antimalarial products among private-sector medicine retailers in Ghana. Licensed retail pharmacies and over-the-counter (OTC) medicine retail outlets were sampled across six regions of Ghana using a two-stage stratified sampling procedure, with antimalarial medicines categorised as ‘expensive,’ ‘mid-range,’ and ‘cheaper,’ relative to other products in the shop. Retailers were asked about their motivations for choosing to stock particular products over others. The reasons were grouped into three categories: financial, reputation/experience and professional recommendation. Reputation/experience (76%, 95% CI 72.0% to 80.7%) were the drivers of antimalarial stocking decisions, followed by financial reasons (53.2%, 95% CI 48.1% to 58.3%) and recommendation by certified health professionals (24.7%, 95% CI 20.3% to 29.1%). Financial considerations were particularly influential in stocking decisions of cheaper medicines. Moreover, pharmacies and OTCs without a qualified pharmacist were significantly more likely to indicate financial reasons as a motivation for stocking decisions. No significant differences in stocking decisions were found by geographical location (zone and urban/rural) or outlet (pharmacy/OTC). These findings have implications for the management of antimalarial quality across supply chains in Ghana, with potentially important consequences for malaria control, particularly in lower-income areas where people rely on low-cost medication.

The current study established a HACCP tactic for all hazards related to Egyptian dry-cured pastrami production. All types of hazards that could occur at each production step were depicted. The fabrication steps of pastrami were originally based on the processes and conclusions presented in two previous publications by members of the research team; thus, the current scientific paper is considered a completion of the two previous publications. All operations executed and products manufactured outside the pastrami factory were excluded. The HACCP system was only applied to dry-cured pastrami production stages from receiving frozen raw meat and non-meat ingredients until packaging and storing the final product. Four CCPs were detected and taken into account. The permissible critical limits of additives and non-meat ingredients were considered. Suitable corrective actions were arranged. Regular HACCP plan review, proper recording of detected CCPs and critical limits were necessary for validation processes. Following up with the supply chain by obtaining the certified suppliers, together with the importance of the verification procedures of the elaborated HACCP plan, were essential in order to ensure the production of safe food without defects.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of financial investment (FI) in Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification on performance of Korean logistics companies through public and private partnership (PPP) and trade facilitation (TF). Design/methodology/approach Questionnaire survey was conducted to collect the data for this study, out of which 285 were adopted for the analysis using structural equation modeling for quantitative analysis. Also, it is based on professionals in Korean logistics companies that are AEO certified only. Findings FI on AEO certification had positive impacts on performance via PPP, while TF variable had no significant impact on the overall performance. Research limitations/implications This study focuses on the FI in AEO certification and its impact on performance in Korea. There should be more quantitative and confirmatory research on other countries with AEO certification to validate the findings of this study. It may be possible to generate contrary findings in different economies or countries. Practical implications These findings imply that public managers should focus more on TF aspects of the program with the Mutual Recognition Agreement with major trading partners and growing economies around the world in order to make the AEO program more popular and global with supply chain members overseas. Originality/value This study has offered original discovery and practical, academic implications for AEO program in terms of testing and suggesting factors provided by previous studies as a confirmatory and quantitative research.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the mediating effect of supply chain risk management integration (RMI) on the relationship between supply chain logistics performance (LP) and supply chain cost performance (CP), as well as on the relationship between LP and supply chain service performance (SP). The impact of CP and SP on overall firm performance (FP) is also explored. ISO 9001-certified firms and non-certified firms are assessed to determine whether superior risk-based thinking, as required in the latest ISO 9001 standard, has a positive impact on the different relationships. Design/methodology/approach A theoretical model is developed and tested based on the participation of 140 supply chain managers. The proposed structural equation model positively relates LP, RMI, CP and SP. RMI is positively linked to CP and SP, while CP and SP are positively related to overall FP. Two subsamples (a group of 63 ISO 9001-certified firms and a group of 77 non-certified firms) are used to evaluate the model. Findings For certified and non-certified firms, LP is positively related to RMI, CP and SP, and SP and CP are positively related to FP. However, for certified firms, RMI partially mediates the relationship of LP with both CP and SP, while for non-certified firms, RMI does not mediate these relationships. The findings suggest that ISO 9001-certified firms are able to leverage RMI efforts to impact positively on supply chain performance, whereas non-certified firms are not. Research limitations/implications The study findings are based on the perceptions of managers. Even though the majority of the 63 certified firms included in this study were ISO 9001:2015 certified, the model results do not differentiate between companies certified to the 2008 version of the standard and the 2015 version (which specifically requires demonstration of risk-based thinking). Practical implications This study suggests that ISO 9001 provides a framework for risk management processes and collaboration with supply chain partners to positively impact the relationship of LP with cost and SP. Originality/value This is one of the first studies to characterize the benefits of using a structured approach for risk-based thinking that is associated with ISO 9001.

Purpose Since the implementation of the National Organic Program in 2002, the US organic market has grown in both scale and scope, consequently placing pressure on the organic supply chain. The crucial role of matching consumer demand for final products with farm-level production falls to certified organic handlers, the intermediary firms that process, manufacture and distribute organic products. Locating certified organic commodities and products that meet their needs, in a timely manner, is costly and challenging. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach A mixed-methods study was designed to better understand organic sector supply chain relationships in the USA. Data were collected from certified organic handlers via survey and semi-structured interviews. Those interviewed were randomly selected from 153 survey respondents who expressed an interest in being interviewed. This paper presents an analysis of interviews with 26 certified organic handlers regarding the relationships with their suppliers. Findings Three key concepts characterize the relationships between handlers and their suppliers: closeness, support and commitment. Nearly all handler supplier relationships possess some degree of closeness, where the handler expresses interest in their supplier. The relationships follow a spectrum of intensity, where the least engaged handlers provide little support and commitment, and the most engaged handlers provide support and commitment through a long-term relationship or contract. Originality/value Research into the organic supply chain is challenging to undertake, given the proprietary nature of the relationships. As the organic market continues to grow, the relationships along the supply chain will need to evolve to allow firms to meet consumer demand.

This study investigates the impact of the application of quality assurance certification on the origin traceability of shrimp exports in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta region. The primary data was investigated in 2018, which covered the whole supply chain of shrimp production such as farmers, collectors, distributors, processing factories. Descriptive statistics are utilized to analyze and compare the differences in the supply chain and product origin traceability between certified and non-certified shrimps. The willingness of farmers to embrace product origin traceability of certified and non-certified shrimps is also analyzed. The results show that certified farmers indicate a higher possibility of traceability due to proper monitoring and management essential to traceability. The application of international quality assurance certification of shrimp farmers increases awareness and willingness to implement origin traceability. The result proves the effectiveness of the collaboration between the farmers and processing factories in the implementation of traceability in the entire supply chain.

Abstract This research is proposed to determine the impact of management on supply chain performance. A description analysis on each indicator’s constituent variables also carried out. Data obtained from farmer groups (Poktan), combined farmer groups (Gapoktan), organic rice farmer associations, distributors and retailers consisting of modern markets, supermarkets, and minimarkets were selected using snowball sampling method. A questionnaire was utilized to determine the perceptions of respondents. The limitation of the study was the involvement of only one area of certified organic rice producer, and several distributors and retailers who engaged in the organic sector following the supply chain flow. The analysis using partial least squares structural equation modelling obtained that the integration of suppliers has a positive significance on efficiency, responsiveness, flexibility, quality, and economic satisfaction, but it does not affect social satisfaction. Internal integration only significantly influences to quality. The integration of customer has a positive importance on efficiency, responsiveness, flexibility, and social satisfaction, but it does not affect the quality and economic satisfaction. Meanwhile, information sharing has a positive effect on economic and social satisfaction, but it does not affect efficiency, responsiveness, flexibility, and quality. Supplier integration was found to be a significant factor in supply chain management practices in influencing supply chains performance. This study authenticity is the use of measurement constructs that are adapted to conditions in the field to produce new empirical data about the relationship of management practices with supply chain performance in the certified organic rice products.

PurposeTo analyze the effect of an ambidextrous supply chain strategy (ASCS) – i.e. the combination of exploration and exploitation practices – on each of the four dimensions of supply chain flexibility (SCF): information system, operating system, sourcing and distribution flexibility. Further, to evaluate the influence of implementing the ISO 9001 standard on the relationship between ASCS and SCF, and whether this certification directly affects the level of SCF. We ground our model in Resource Orchestration theory.Design/methodology/approachTo perform this study, the authors used data collected from a sample of 145 non-ISO-certified firms and 157 ISO-certified firms.FindingsASCS does not affect all four dimensions of SCF in the same way. Rather, its effect is contingent on the presence of the ISO 9001 certification. An ASCS is shown to have a positive effect on information system flexibility irrespective of the presence of ISO 9001 certification whereas for the other three dimensions of SCF, the effect of ASCS is dependent on ISO 9001 implementation. Meanwhile, ISO 9001 implementation itself does not affect the level of SCF.Practical implicationsManagers can use the findings to configure their supply chain strategy based on the specific dimension(s) of SCF they seek to develop by implementing ASCS. Further, the results inform managers about the incentives for implementing ISO 9001.Originality/valueAlthough prior studies have shown that an ambidextrous strategy enables firms and organizational units to adapt to the environment, there have been few prior studies on ambidexterity in a supply chain context. Further, although the extant literature has suggested that the ISO 9001 may facilitate ambidexterity, this link has remained largely theoretical. In fact, there is very little prior evidence on how the practice of ISO 9001 affects the supply chain.

This study aimed to investigate each dimension of supply chain risks on economic and environmental performance. This study has performed the conceptual framework of supply chain risks and organisational performance. The data were collected by distributing 30 questionnaires to manufacturing companies that achieved ISO 14001 in Malaysia. The reliability test revealed that all variables ranged from 0.806 to 0.920, and the item measures have sufficient level of reliability. The descriptive analysis revealed that environmental risk is the most frequent supply chain risks in ISO 14001 certified manufacturing company in Malaysia. Another finding showed that both economic and environmental performances, on average, were highly moderated compared to the past two years of performance. Based on the findings, the researchers and practitioners are raising knowledge about the overall ranking of each dimension in supply chain risks. The findings of this study can be beneficial for top-level management specifically for the top management in ISO 14001 certified manufacturing companies in Malaysia. They will be aware of how to mitigate the supply chain risks and how to protect the supply chain management. Future study can include the strategy or practices that can improve both economic and environmental performance by reducing the supply chain risks.

For decades, food quality standards have attracted the interest of governance institutions and regulation authorities, who have responded to the increasing and demanding societal challenges. In addition, the open debate on significant variability and unusually high levels of agrifood prices recorded in 2007 and later in 2011 affect the behavior of the chain actors involved. As an attempt to bring together these wide concerns within a quantitative framework, a comparative analysis of the performance of the price volatility dynamics allowing for asymmetric behavior along the supply chain of a protected geographical indication (PGI)-certified lamb and its corresponding non-PGI counterpart, both located in the same region of Spain, was undertaken using weekly farm-retail prices for the period 2011–2018. The results indicate the existence of significant volatilities and an asymmetric transmission mechanism along the non-PGI-certified lamb supply chain, whereas the PGI-certified supply chain is impacted by volatility effects, yet characterized by symmetric behavior, which may suggest a high degree of relative market efficiency.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to introduce a supply chain view of a robust and resilient halal brand. In this conceptual paper, a risk prevention-mitigation-recovery cycle is proposed. Design/methodology/approach This paper builds further on previous work published in the Journal of Islamic Marketing on Islamic branding and halal supply chain management. Hypotheses are developed on the intensity of risk management. Findings Integrity of halal products is becoming an increasing concern for governments and industries. Three halal supply chain risk cycles are proposed: (1) risk prevention: risk vulnerability assessment, supply chain (re)design, vertical and horizontal collaboration, monitoring; (2) risk mitigation: investigative audits, cross-functional team, risk mitigation and communication plan, monitoring; and (3) risk recovery: risk recovery and communication plan, resume operations, maintain employee support, review risk mitigation and recovery plans. Research limitations/implications This conceptual paper proposes three halal supply chain risk cycles to better organise risk management in halal supply chains. However, more empirical research on halal risk management is needed to validate these risk management cycles. Practical implications To better protect halal brands and corporate reputation, there are evident benefits of extending halal assurance towards the supply chain, for which prevention-mitigation-recovery cycles are proposed. Originality/value As halal is going through an evolution, towards a halal supply chain and value chain, halal-certified brands need better protection. It is the first study investigating halal risk and reputation management for halal-certified brands.

Integrity of halal supply chains is becoming an increasing concern for government and industry. There are a number of reasons for this. First, halal integrity issues are more likely to occur than before due to the increasing complexity of supply chains. Second, the complexity of today’s supply chain, with a high percentage of imported ingredients, is making integrity issues harder to detect. Third, halal integrity issues once detected go viral on the internet, exposing the integrity of a country’s halal system and the brand owner concerned. The neglect of halal requirements throughout the entire supply chain is gradually weakening consumer confidence in halal certified products.

Purpose The field of supply chain management (SCM) evolves dramatically due to factors of globalization, innovation, sustainability, and technology. These changes raise challenges not only to higher education institutions, but also to students, employing organizations, and third parties like SCM-related professional bodies. To understand the challenge, the purpose of this paper is to examine the gap between demand and supply of SCM-related knowledge areas, answer-related design questions, and make recommendations to close the gaps. Design/methodology/approach To compare the demand and supply of SCM-related knowledge areas, demand data is collected from a professional career website and supply data is gathered from operations management (OM) and SCM course syllabi from AACSB-accredited business schools in the USA. Cluster analysis identifies how supply and demand are matched on the data collected. Findings First, gaps exist between SCM talent requirements from industry and the knowledge/skill training by US business schools. This paper identifies matching, under-supplying, and over-supplying knowledge areas. Under-supply in emerging areas such as SCM information technology and certain logistics management topics are found. Some traditional OM topics are over-supplied due to out-of-date industry applications and should be revised to reflect the field’s transition from an OM to SCM view. Last, this paper makes recommendations to different stakeholders in this matching supply with demand process. Originality/value This study contributes to the literature in two ways. First, it provides an up-to-date understanding on demand and supply of SCM talent in USA. Second, it provides insights and recommendations not only to educators on curriculum design, but also to potential candidates interested in SCM careers, to companies’ job recruiters, and to professional organizations (such as APICS and Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals) to reduce the gaps between demand and supply.

This article discusses various aspects of a new ASME program that seeks to support a robust global supply chain for the nuclear industry. Under the program, an ASME audit team will assess a company’s quality assurance program. It will make an accurate assessment of a supplier’s capability in implementing its QA program in compliance with the NQA-1 standard and will issue a certificate affirming that the company has been found in compliance. Safeguards are in place for companies to receive a fair and unbiased evaluation. Conflicts of interest are removed by having the ASME Conformity Assessment Department develop and administer the program. The ASME audit team will visit all locations where the nuclear quality assurance program is being implemented and will require a company to implement or demonstrate all aspects of its program. The review of the supplier’s QA manual and the on-site audit will be the basis of the team’s report in conveying to ASME the company’s capabilities, knowledge, and understanding of its program and of the ASME NQA-1 standard.

Abstract This study aims to identify the most critical green supply chain drivers and to explore the most prevalent drivers in the real estate industry in India. Through literature review, we identified 13 green drivers in the real estate sector in India. A structured questionnaire was administered to 280 potential participants, out of whom 150 responded by filling out the questionnaire. The respondents were working in reputed real estate companies comprising owners, contractors, consultants, architects, and project management companies in Delhi National capital region (NCR). The relative relevance index was used to rank the various green drivers in the real estate industry in India. Multiple regression analysis was used to establish the degree of linear connection between the variables. T-tests examine the differences between 13 decision factors and dependent variables. The cost–benefit of green supply chain drivers in a LEED-certified real estate project in India established the efficacy of green supply chain drivers in the real estate industry in India. The study’s findings indicate that senior management, developers, and the government are the most crucial drivers for implementing the green supply chain in the real estate sector. The study’s findings further confirm that green building approaches, i.e., green procurement, green transportation, building information modelling (BIM), building energy modelling (BEM), and prefabrication procedures, are underutilised in the real estate sector in India.

In 2007, Unilever, the world’s largest tea company, announced plans to source its entire tea supply sustainably, beginning with the certification of its tea producers in East Africa to Rainforest Alliance standards. As a major buyer of Kenyan tea, Unilever’s decision pushed tea producers across Kenya to subscribe to Rainforest Alliance’s sustainable agriculture standard in order to maintain access to the global tea market; according to a 2018 report, over 85% of Kenya’s tea producers were Rainforest Alliance certified. Drawing on ethnographic material among supply chain actors across different sites along the sustainable tea value chain (from those designing and disseminating standards to tea traders to smallholder tea farmers), this article examines how these actors frequently attributed the power to determine the outcomes of certification to a faceless ‘market’. Deferring to ‘the market’, we observe, served primarily to mask the outsized power of lead firms (in particular Unilever) to determine conditions of tea production and trade. At the same time, ‘the market’ was also in some cases qualified by our interlocutors, allowing them implicitly (and at times explicitly) to reveal power and give it a face. Concealing and revealing power in this way, we suggest, can be seen as a mode of engagement among supply chain actors operating in ‘sustainable’ supply chains, like the Rainforest Alliance-certified Kenyan tea supply chain, in which the power of lead firms tends to be consolidated through market-driven sustainability initiatives. Such a mode of engagement mitigates exclusion from sustainable supply chains while maintaining space for critique.

This study aimed to gain a better understanding of the causal factors that affect dependent variables in the supply chain risk of organic rice in Thailand. Consequently, the purpose of this research was to develop a structural equation model of the supply chain risk. A questionnaire was used to gather data from a sample of 250 farmers who were certified under the organic agriculture standards in Thailand and the data were analyzed using LISREL 8.80. The Chi-square value of 192.21, a degree of freedom of 167, and a p-value of 0.08828 indicated that the model was consistent with the empirical data. The model was composed of 23 observed variables and 3 latent variables: input, organic agriculture standard, and supply chain risk. Input was found to have a positive and direct effect on organic agriculture standard (coefficient of 0.71), and a negative and direct effect on supply chain risk (coefficient of −0.65). Organic agriculture standard had no effect on supply chain risk.

Many studies in the related literature have proven that the perception of flavor and healthiness can be affected by both the product’s intrinsic and extrinsic cues. Package designs, brands, colors, labels and other visual elements exert and influence consumers’ expectations and guide them toward food decisions. With the increasing initiatives promoted within Europe in support of the adoption of blockchain technology in supply chains and agri-food contexts, in the coming years, packages will be used with additional product information certified with the technology itself. Cueing packages with blockchain-certified information could affect consumers in their overall flavor and health perceptions, similarly to that previously demonstrated with other extrinsic cues. In the present study, we analyzed a sample of 310 primary grocery shoppers from Germany, Italy and the UK, demonstrating the effectiveness of technology-certified information on the package of animal milk in influencing consumers’ flavor and health perceptions and exploring the differences and similarities across the three countries and milk categories.

The halal supply chain is a concept where halal is not only seen as raw materials and production processes but also involves in the supply chain process. Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, only has 20% of products that are halal certified, especially food Small Medium Enterprise (SMEs) in Bandung who most of which do not have halal certification. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a Halal Supply Chain Analysis of Small Medium Enterprise (SME) in Bandung. This research uses quantitative research methods with an associative descriptive approach. The sampling technique used simple random sampling with a total sample size of 94 food SMEs in Bandung. The data analysis technique used the Structural Equation Model-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method. Based on the research results, the success factor of Halal Supply Chain has a positive and significant effect on the Implementation of Halal Supply Chain in Food SMEs in Bandung, with a contribution of 63.8%, and the remaining 36.2% is explained by other factors not examined. This shows that the implementation of the Halal Supply Chain will be successful if SMEs pay attention to each success factor of the Halal Supply Chain.

This study investigates the impact of enhanced enterprise resource planning (ERP) on firm performance through green supply chain management, supplier integration, and internal integration. The population is the manufacturer domiciled in East Java, Indonesia, which has implemented ERP and been certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in the environmental management system. Data collection used a questionnaire designed with the five-point Likert scale. Of 243 manufacturers, 150 questionnaires were distributed, and 135 questionnaires are considered valid for analysis. Data analysis used smart PLS software. The result indicated that all eight predetermined hypotheses were supported. Enhanced ERP affects supplier integration, internal integration, and green supply chain management. Internal integration affects green supply chain management and firm performance. Supplier integration affects green supply chain management and firm performance. Green supply chain management affects firm performance. An interesting finding is that green supply chain management, internal integration, and supplier integration mediate the effect of enhanced ERP on firm performance. This study’s novelty lies in the research model that analyzes the relationship between the four constructs simultaneously with the green supply chain management, internal integration, and supplier integration as a mediating variable. The research provides an insight for the manager on how to improve the firm performance in supply chain management. This study could also contribute to the current research in supply chain management.

With the transformation of the supply chain from factor driven to investment driven and to innovation driven, supply chain innovation has attracted more and more attention. This paper obtains the Bayesian prior probability of innovation and studies the supply chain innovation path from the perspective of strategy and behavior. The model divides the overall innovation capability of the supply chain into specific node tasks and assets (Capability Set), and the innovation demand of the supply chain is expressed in the form of the conditional probability of market demand. Under the conditions of minimum risk, minimum cost, and rapid market response, it determines who should lead the supply chain innovation first and what type of supply chain innovation should be carried out first. Finally, taking the supply chain of the professional market in Zhejiang Province as an example, this paper verifies the theoretical model of supply chain innovation decision-making. The innovation of the supply chain of Zhejiang’s specialized market is decomposed into the capability set of each enterprise node of the supply chain. This paper transforms the group innovation ability of the supply chain in the professional market into the individual innovation ability of a single enterprise node and reveals the starting point and intensity of the demand innovation of products/services in the supply chain.

Colombia is a major flower exporter of a wide variety of species, among which the chrysanthemum plays a major role due to its exporting volume and profitability on the international market. This study examines the major environmental impacts of the chrysanthemum supply chain through a life cycle assessment (LCA). One kg of stems export quality was used as the functional unit (FU). The study examines cut-flowers systems from raw material extraction to final product commercialization for two markets (London and Miami) and analyzes two agroecosystems: one certified system and one uncertified system. The transport phase to London resulted in more significant environmental impacts than the transport phase to Miami, and climate change (GWP100) category was significant in both cities, generating values of 9.10E+00 and 2.51E+00 kg CO2-eq*FU for London and Miami, respectively. Furthermore, when exclusively considering pre-export phases, the uncertified system was found to have a greater impact than the certified system with respect to fertilizer use (certified 1,448E-02 kg*FU, uncertified 2.23E-01 kg*FU) and pesticide use (certified 1.24 E-04 kg*FU, uncertified 2.24E-03 kg*FU). With respect to the crop management, eutrophication (EP) and acidification (AP) processes imposed the greatest level of environmental impact. Strategies that would significantly reduce the environmental impact of this supply chain are considered, including the use of shipping and a 50% reduction in fertilizer use.

Globalization of food supply chains requires from companies located in developing countries to comply with strict production standards. Hence, there is an increasing need for socio-economic environmental certification worldwide. A way to meet food standards is to create a supply chain management that deals with sequential processes coordinated by the chain leader. In the particular case of agri-food markets, it is common for food retailers to perform the role of chain leaders. This paper describes the configuration and coordination of a certified fair trade fruit supply chain in Brazil servicing the United Kingdom (UK) market. The methods used are interviews with key informants working at different stages of the supply chain in both countries and secondary data analysis. Our findings suggest that retailers in the UK transfer the responsibility of supply chains coordination to their partnering traders in Brazil, who, in turn, are responsible for monitoring information flow and tracking processes. Theoretical contributions are related to the understanding of a complex supply chain because it involves members that have different technologies, skills, language and knowledge about the market. This heterogeneity makes the co-coordinating role even more important.

Halal industry is expanding worldwide, and it requires strong supply chain management to enhance halal business efficiency and preserve credibility through halal logistics process. However, studies on halal logistics remain limited and isolated. Thus, this study aimed to understand the impact of stakeholders on halal logistics practices among Malaysian halal-certified manufacturers. The primary objectives of this study are to examine the underlying dimensions of halal logistics practices, investigate the level of halal logistics practices, investigate the extent of stakeholders' influence on halal logistics practices, and explore the relationship of halal logistics practices towards supply chain performance. Based on the data collected through a questionnaires survey from 270 managers from halal-certified manufacturers, SPSS and SmartPLS were used to test the hypotheses. The findings of the study indicated that operational dimensions are the most practiced dimensions of halal logistics amongst firms. Meanwhile, competitors, government, NGOs, community media and society, and customers significantly influence the adoption of halal logistics practices. Importantly, halal logistics practices are positively related to supply chain performance. This study has extended the feasibility of stakeholder theory in the sense of halal logistics to the scope and comprehensiveness of stakeholders. The outcome of this study provides important implications to both academics and practitioners, particularly in the halal industry.

Configurators have recently emerged as essential tools in the construction industry to enable builders to offer a wide range of customizable designs. Due to significant challenges in information integration between construction suppliers and clients, existing configurator systems often lack crucial usability and supply chain information, presenting barriers to wider adoption among residential communities, especially in single-family residence development that requires a high degree of customization. To address this challenge in the design and construction supply chain, this study presents a lightweight cloud-based modular home configuration methodology as a robust unified platform solution to integrate parametric design options with a certified kit-of-parts library to meet local design codes. The configurator prototype developed under this framework seamlessly integrates essential design and supply chain information by leveraging (1) a generative layout design with pre-approved blueprints, (2) a knowledge-based recommender system to link the design process with certified material catalogs, and (3) a user-friendly web interface to present possible designs. The implementation of a single-family housing design adhering to the building codes in the British Columbia Province of Canada illustrates the benefits of the proposed configurator functionalities and efficient supplier data integration. Lightweight and automated, the proposed configurator has substantial potential to be scaled and adopted across different communities.

<p>One of the obstacles to the development of agribusiness is related to supply chain management. The availability of supply is the most important factor in influencing supply chain performance. Without a stable and routine supply, supply chain performance will be disrupted. Karanganyar Regency is one of the production centers of horticultural commodities, particularly garlic. This study aimed to analyze the efficiency of each garlic supply chain actor in Karanganyar Regency. The research was conducted from March to April 2019. The efficiency of each supply chain actor in this study was measured using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. Performance measurement was done through the DEA approach and the performance attributes were input and output variables. The respondents observed were 50 farmers and 13 supply chain actors working in institutions. The samples of farmers were taken using purposive sampling technique, while the samples of supply chain actors were obtained using snowball sampling. The results have shown that the most efficient supply chain actors were retailers with an efficiency value of 1 (100%), while inefficient supply chain actors were farmers with an average efficiency value of 0.709. From a total of 50 Decision Making Unit (DMU) of total farmers, 13 DMU (26%) were efficient, while 37 DMU (74%) were inefficient and further need improvements, like using certified seeds and suitable fertilizer recommendations, as well as reducing external labor during the process of maintenance, harvesting and post-harvest. Farmers are expected to have the desire to learn from referral farmers.</p>

XYZ is a manufacturing company that is engaged in oil palm processing into Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Crude Palm Kernel Oil (CPKO). Supply chain structure model adopted in PT. XYZ is the Mass Balance. Mass Balance is a supply chain model that allows a claim to be transferred from one certified palm oil products to other products either through physical blending or administratively under tightly controlled circumstances. non-fulfillment of processing capacity due to lack of supply of fruit coming into the plant from the garden supplier FFB does not reach the target supply to meet the plant's capacity, while at the time of supply of the third party can not meet that capacity. This will increase the cost per palm product so that profits earned by the company to be reduced because production capacity is not the same with a capacity / installed capacity owned by the manufacturer. Analysis of the results using the Food Supply Chain Network (FSCN) that causes a decrease in the availability of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) is influenced by the decreasing productivity of the garden as a supply based, which has been aged more than 20 years. Of the six aspects FSCN method, one aspect observed is the development of the supply chain and improvements to the supply-based to do the replanting of consideration to yield potential.

Abstract Ginger has a high economic value. It has benefits for health and doesn’t require complicated processing. But, ginger required a long period to cultivate. It makes farmer’s interest in cultivating ginger decrease and ginger production continues to decline every year. Aside from that, ginger certified seeds are also limited. Meanwhile, demand for ginger continues to rise. To meet these demands, an effective and efficient supply chain management is needed. One of the largest ginger productions in West Java is located on Cianjur. So the purpose of this research is to determine an efficient ginger supply chain of farming sustainability in Cianjur. The method used is descriptive analysis use framework of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO). Then develop it as a strategy use SWOT-AHP method. The results showed ginger supply chain’s members in Cianjur consisted of farmers, collectors, wholesale market, local market, and consumers. Ginger supply chain management in Cianjur isn’t effective because there are still some obstacles in each member. The strategy chosen is to improve productivity and product quality for a better supply chain. There is also a need for mutual awareness between each chain in increasing the productivity and quality of ginger so that producers are more enthusiastic about cultivating ginger in the future. So that farming activities remain sustainable.

Within the Cybersecurity workforce supply chain, there continues to be a disconnect between the undergraduate curriculum and industry skill demand. The cybersecurity workforce framework of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education can serve as one of the tools to bridge this disconnect. Borrowing from the learnings in the training of students in medical school, this paper performs a qualitative literature review on some of the existing efforts to develop the cybersecurity workforce. By exploring the integration of the cybersecurity workforce framework and the curriculum guideline of the Joint Task Force on Cybersecurity Education, it recommends the introduction of Entrustable Professional Activities and mandatory apprenticeship as part of the curriculum guideline. The Entrustable Professional Activities could be based on workforce tasks defined by NICE and cybersecurity graduates will be expected to demonstrate capability to perform those activities. Industry participation is required across all levels of the supply chain.

Purpose – The logistics and supply chain management discipline has evolved dramatically over the past generation. The rapid pace of change has challenged education providers – e.g., universities, professional associations, and publications – to remain relevant to various stakeholders. Relying on an open systems design perspective, the purpose of this paper is to assess how well organizations use constrained resources (personnel, dollars, time, etc.) to meet customers’ educational needs. Design/methodology/approach – To examine how well educational providers are meeting stakeholder goals, universities, associations, and publications are examined across time by multiple surveys to determine if they are keeping pace in the changing business world. Findings – The paper identifies two gaps. First, stakeholders report a growing gap between the offerings of existing education providers and their educational needs. Second, the gap between academic and practitioner perceptions is growing. Importantly, some organizations and universities are doing a better job of responding to changing educational requirements. Finally, a shift to SCM is further complicating the educational process. Originality/value – This study makes two primary contributions. First, it identifies important changes in the logistics and supply chain education market. Second, it provides updated rankings of the perceptions of academics and practitioners regarding three education providers: professional organizations, universities, and publications. This insight enables logistics and supply chain thought leaders to evaluate how they can enhance education resources and thus remain relevant in a rapidly changing and increasingly tumultuous marketplace.

The “agricultural superdocking” mode which has been strong supported by the government has become the main way for fresh agricultural products to enter the market in China. Based on the analysis of fresh agricultural products supply chain inventory management under the “agricultural superdocking” mode, this paper constructs an integrated inventory model for fresh agricultural products of “farmers’ professional cooperatives + distribution centers + supermarkets.” Considering multiple members at each echelon of a supply chain, a model that maximizes the overall profit of the supply chain is proposed. The model assumes that the market demand of fresh agricultural products is affected by freshness and sales prices, and the distribution center is responsible for not only storage, processing, and distribution but also coordinating the production and supply information of farmers’ professional cooperatives and the order sales information of supermarkets. An improved genetic algorithm is developed to solve the nonlinear optimization problem. Results of a case study show that the optimal supply and replenishment strategy under the given supply chain distribution process are obtained.

This study investigates the enhancement of firm resilience through participation in cross-border security certification. We examine three certificationrelated aspects, namely the motivations for participating, costs and benefits, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. An analysis of interviews with firms from Taiwan revealed that certified firms build security-oriented networks and implement risk-control mechanisms that enhance international trading and reduce the shocks caused by COVID-19-related supply-chain disruptions. Investments in fixed assets or software are required to meet the validation criteria of this security certification. Our results support resilience theory and provide firms with a reference for risk prevention. International trading, Supply Chain, Resilience, Certification, COVID-19, Taiwan

The present study explores the environmental quality (natural and recycled content, recyclability, life cycle method) of a sample of certified construction products available in different database in Italy (Remade in Italy, Atlante dell’Economia Circolare, Observatory Recycle-Legambiente Report, Accredia). The results evidence the identification of a wide range of construction products with different certified recycled contents and Italian origin under the certification standard “Remade in Italy”. Moreover, 42% of the certified products rely on the use of LCA for the assessment of the environmental impacts, while 22% of certified products integrate the features of recycled content with the recyclability at the end-of-life. Overall, results show the role certifications may have in increasing the information available on products and their environmental quality, including their traceability in the reverse supply chain, becoming a potential driver for CE adoption and a wider development for such products.

The pharmaceutical supply chain (PSC) contains various nodes including manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, pharmacies, hospitals, and patients. Thus increasing the complexity of the process and full of loopholes which increases the chances of counterfeiting medicine. This leads to an increase in the need to develop an immutable, trustworthy, transparent and accountable system, more advanced than PSC. The main loophole in the current PSC system is drug changes ownership over every transaction making it hard to trace before it reaches the customer. In the current system, nodes do not exchange information, manufacturing doesn't know what happens to the product, and visibility to regulatory authorities is near zero, recalls are complicated and costly. Problems like traceability, visibility, and security in the current drug delivery systems are explained in this review paper, and methods to solve them are elaborated in the same. Drugs produced by manufacturers can be traced from manufacturing to delivery to the patient and after the administration for survey purposes also. The proposed system will also make it possible to retrieve and store data of patients for future statistics. By using blockchain we can store data of transactions and only certified personnel will be allowed to join and push data on the blockchain. Key words: Blockchain, counterfeiting, supply chain, drug traceability

The consumer decision-making process for buying food products is based on various factors. One of these is the perceived value that the consumer acquires upon seeing a certification label, such as “Protected Designation of Origin” (PDO) and “Protected Geographical Indication” (PGI), which is an indicator of product quality and the degree of sustainability of the supply chain. The aim of the study is to identify the main factors influencing the behaviour and purchasing intentions of Italian consumers through the divulgation of a survey and the application of a statistical approach. The results were elaborated upon using a conceptual model, estimated following the partial least squares approach to structural equation modelling. As a result, the perception of quality influences purchasing decisions and food patterns, as labels play an increasing role in contemporary society, thus making quality standards relevant for the buying outcome. This research contributes to supporting studies on the importance of certifications of origin, as well as highlighting that food safety is a major determinant in the purchasing of certified food products.
