Esta obra presenta varias líneas de interés para la sociedad colombiana y para quienes investigan en este campo: en primer lugar, hace visible una modalidad de convivencia familiar subregistrada en las cifras oficiales y representada socialmente como familia incompleta; pero con fuerte arraigo en las prácticas cotidianas e históricas de las familias en este país: la mujer-madre que voluntariamente o por la fuerza de las circunstancias asume la jefatura familiar y sin compañero-padre saca adelante a sus hijos. En segundo lugar, se adentra en los dinamismos internos del funcionamiento de tales familias, haciendo acercamientos muy vitales, con fuerza casi testimonial, referidos a la forma como sus integrantes mismos la representan, a cómo representan y relatan sus fortalezas y debilidades, sus trayectorias, sus conflictos y a cómo estos conflictos se afrontan internamente. Por último, el texto se realiza, justamente, desde la voz de quienes viven la experiencia, modalidad investigativa desde la cual se aprecia con mayor fineza la estructura de categorías y subcategorías que las mismas personas escogen para dar cuenta de sus vivencias.

“This book offers an account of the life of Shibusawa Eiichi, who may be considered the first ‘internationalist’ in modern Japan, written by his great grandson Masahide and published in 1970 under the title, Taiheiyo ni kakeru hashi (Building Bridges Over the Pacific). Japan had a tortuous relationship with internationalism between 1840, when Shibusawa was born, and 1931, the year the nation invaded Manchuria and when he passed away. The key to understanding Shibusawa’s thoughts against the background of this history, the author shows, lies in the concept of ‘people’s diplomacy,’ namely an approach to international relations through non-governmental connections. Such connections entail more transnational than international relations. In that sense, Shibusawa was more a transnationalist than an internationalist thinker. Internationalism presupposes the prior existence of sovereign states among which they cooperate to establish a peaceful order. The best examples are the League of Nations and the United Nations. Transnationalism, in contrast, goes beyond the framework of sovereign nations and promotes connections among individuals and non-governmental organizations. It could be called “globalism” in the sense that transnationalism aims at building bridges across the globe apart from independent nation-states. In that sense Shibusawa was a pioneering globalist. It was only in the 1990s that expressions like globalism and globalization came to be widely used. This was more than sixty years after Shibusawa Eiichi’s death, which suggests how pioneering his thoughts were.” [Akira Iriye]

In Japanese history the establishment of the ie, or family system, on which patriarchal authority was based, represents one of the most important turning points. The ie that came into being from the late eleventh century onwards, differs from the uji that had characterised previous eras, not so much on account of its patriarchal system but because it would place the married couple in prime position. The family, previously made up of a man engaging in occasional relationships with a number of women, would gradually become a more stable nucleus comprising of a husband with a wife who enjoyed a legally recognised position of privilege compared with all the other concubines. After her husband’s death, she would naturally become a sort of substitute figure, often gaining considerable authority and prestige. With the threat of the Mongolian invasions (from 1274 and 1281) and the consequent increase in limitations on women’s inheritance rights, many widows were forced to take vows as a sign of loyalty and tangible proof of their choice not to remarry if they were to secure their husband’s property. The literary production of Nun Abutsu (1225 ca.-1283 ca.) written in a period which led to the inevitable breakdown of the economic, social, and political balance of Japan, offers a realistic description of women’s ambitions, duties and concerns in an era of great transformation. In a close reading of her major works Abutsu no fumi (The letter of Abutsu, 1264 ca.), Utatane (Fitful slumbers, XIII century) and Izayoi nikki (The Diary of the sixteenth night moon, 1280 ca.), the book casts light on some important issues in Japanese women’s history: the gradual shift from uxorical to virilocal marriage, the consequences of this process for inheritance patterns, the meaning of women’s participation in the intellectual life of their time.

Por supuesto, en primer lugar, una compromiso con los autores y autoras, para corresponder a su generosa invitación de presentar en este caso su obra, realizando algunos comentarios al texto, introduciendo algunas reacciones frente al mismo y estimulando a la comunidad académica y educativa en general, a la lectura de lo acá se encuentra escrito, por su pertinencia y potencialidad reflexiva, máxime en contextos formativos que están a merced de incertidumbres, desatadas por los últimos acontecimientos de salud pública mundial, que nos tienen distanciados social y físicamente, tanto a discentes como docentes y al personal educativo en general.

El camu camu (Myrciaria dubia HBK Mc Vaugh - Myrtaceae), es un frutal nativo de origen amazónico, su importancia radica en su alto contenido de ácido ascórbico natural que oscila entre 800 a 6100 mg/100g de pulpa (Yuyama, 2011). Frutal que viene tomando importancia en la Región Ucayali, en la medida en que el fruto va adquiriendo relevancia en los mercados nacionales e internacionales. El Perú cuenta con aproximadamente 4069 hectáreas de superficie cosechada, por lo que se ha convertido en el primer centro productor de camu camu con una producción de 14043,38 toneladas métricas (TM) de fruto/año (MINAGRI, 2020). En Ucayali, se encuentran plantadas 2313,30 hectáreas de camu camu entre los distritos de Manantay, Callería, Masisea y Yarinacocha. De estas, 1068 hectáreas son de superficie cosechada, con una producción de 1923 toneladas métricas (TM) de fruto/año, rendimiento promedio de 1,8 tn/ha y precio en chacra de S/. 2.27/kg (MINAGRI, 2020).

This chapter examines the processes that make up the European Union’s common agricultural policy (CAP), with particular emphasis on how the Community method functions in agriculture and how it upheld for decades the walls of fortress CAP. Today’s CAP bears little resemblance to the system of the 1960s, except for comparatively high tariff protection. The controversial device of price support has largely been replaced by direct payments to producers. The chapter first provides an overview of the origins of CAP before discussing two variants of the Community method in agriculture: hegemonic intergovernmentalism and competitive intergovernmentalism. It argues that the challenge for CAP regulators today is not to prevent a hypothetical comeback to the price-support system or generalized market intervention, but to prevent the fragmentation of the single market through a muddled implementation of greening and the consolidation of uneven regimes of support among member states.

This chapter looks at Bill Clinton's role in the 2008 campaign and his special relationship to Black voters. As he left office in 2001, Clinton's positive legacy of social and economic inclusiveness was very much intact in the African American community. Moreover, his relationship with and treatment of African Americans stood as a shining part of what would become the Clinton legacy. However, when President Clinton waged war on behalf of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination during 2008 presidential campaign season, he found that the political landscape had changed. He appeared to make little accommodation in his combative campaign style for the fact that Obama was being treated like the crown prince by American journalists and the Democratic Party. As a result, Clinton found himself explaining incidents of political sparring between the Clinton camp and the Obama camp that needed no explanation against other opponents. He also made gross miscalculations about the nature and strength of the Clintons' support among African Americans.

In the years since 1954, the British musical has in various ways represented the changes that have occurred in social and political attitudes. The camp style of Salad Days and The Boy Friend encodes its critique of the Conservative government’s repressive policies of heteronormative conformity in the early 1950s by exploiting popular traditions of pantomime and music hall performance to valorize an emergent gay sensibility, while the theatre of Joan Littlewood at Stratford East utilized these same popular forms in the construction of a socialist theatre capable of articulating a working-class culture. These two recurrent conceptions of alternative political performance—the subversive queer/camp strategy and the Marxian aesthetic of alternative politics and culture—interact and are combined to startling effect in Billy Elliot, whose dialectical arguments around the relationship between class and gender/sexual orientation, popular and ‘high’ art provide a prime example of British theatre at its most socially aware.

Inauguramos con la presente obra la edición digital de nuestra producción académica. Hasta ahora, y desde hace más de 15 años, el equipo de docentes investigadores hemos publicado en formato papel nuestros trabajos en libros y revistas. Se abre en esta ocasión una nueva posibilidad de ampliar el alcance de nuestra enseñanza para los alumnos y lectores interesados en los problemas del campo de la Psicopatología. Celebramos por eso la iniciativa de la presidencia de la UNLP, por las importantes consecuencias que implica especialmente para los que participan en el ámbito universitario. Hemos elegido preparar en primer lugar una obra que lleva por título <i>Las neurosis en el psicoanálisis freudiano</i>. Tema central en nuestro programa de estudio, nos ha parecido una prioridad para introducirnos en el campo de la Psicopatología y clínica psicoanalíticas. Los fundamentos que Freud nos ha transmitido en sus textos constituyen una lectura necesaria para poder acceder a los desarrollos posteriores y a las diferentes orientaciones de estos desarrollos en el Psicoanálisis que continuó después de Freud. Como Lacan lo ha subrayado en sus primeras intervenciones en el campo psicoanalítico, no se trata de un regreso a los orígenes, sino de propiciar una lectura que contemple la novedad del descubrimiento freudiano, y los problemas que progresivamente se presentaron como obstáculos, interrogantes y desafíos ante los que la producción teórica de Freud surge como intentos de respuesta y elaboración, en la búsqueda de una certeza que se le revela siempre provisoria. Nuestra lectura metódica de los principales momentos de esta obra se propone no olvidar que se trata de una elaboración de los resultados de una práctica, y que deben ser considerados en el marco de una dimensión tanto epistémica, como ética y política, dimensiones que se conjugan permanentemente en la obra de Freud, y que se nos ofrecen como referencia para nuestra actualidad en los diferentes ámbitos en los que enseñamos Psicoanálisis. En este caso, el ámbito universitario, que responde a coordenadas propias vinculadas al lazo social específico que reúne a los participantes, ámbito que tiene como misión privilegiada la transmisión de conocimientos y su actualización permanente a partir de la investigación.

Ray Bolger: More Than a Scarecrow is the first book-length biography of the American eccentric dancer and popular culture figure, best known for his role in the 1939 film musical The Wizard of Oz. The book traces Bolger’s career from repertory and vaudeville into New York movie houses, Broadway, nightclubs, the major film studios, Las Vegas resorts, and television programs. Bolger’s dance lineage is also traced through eccentric dancers like Fred Stone and “Irish prince” soft-shoe dancers like George Primrose and Jack Donahue. Special attention is given to Bolger’s involvement in the nascent United Service Organizations (USO) Camp Shows, including his participation in the first ever camp show unit, which went to the Caribbean in November 1941, and later the first unit to entertain in the South Pacific. An entire chapter is dedicated to the creation and performance of Where’s Charley?, Bolger’s most important show and the one for which he earned a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. The Admiralty had been confident in the Navy’s ability to prevent a French invasion prior to 1903. Thereafter, however, it quickly became apparent that Germany posed a fundamentally different challenge from the Franco-Russian threat Britain had faced in the 1890s and early 1900s. For a series of geographical, infrastructural, and military reasons, a German invasion of the British Isles came to be viewed with a great deal more apprehension at the Admiralty than had ever been generated by the years of tension with France. This chapter examines how and why Britain’s naval leadership came to fear a German attempt to land in the United Kingdom. Building on the appreciation of contemporary naval thought developed in Chapter 1, it recounts how the Admiralty identified a challenge that came to define its strategic agenda between 1907 and 1914.

While leadership capital may initially seem less important in the Canadian system, where leaders appear all-powerful with few party or parliamentary restraints, it remains important in explaining how leaders adapt, or fail to adapt, to their circumstances. The chapter contrasts two recent prime ministers, Stephen Harper and Paul Martin, and demonstrates their very different accumulation and spending of leadership capital. Martin came into office with overwhelming popularity, but failed to meet expectations and squandered his leadership capital and projection of authority. Harper began under more modest circumstances but carefully built and husbanded his leadership capital to achieve long-term success.

<p>Desde la Cátedra Libre por el Derecho al Aborto Legal, Seguro y Gratuito de la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, espacio conformado en 2016, se presentan aportes al debate sobre el aborto legal en el campo de la formación “psi”.</p><p>Los diferentes capítulos de esta obra surgen de las discusiones y producciones de distintas actividades (jornadas, talleres, seminarios, etc.). El libro se compone de tres partes: la primera presenta una genealogización de la demanda por el derecho al aborto y los debates en el campo de la psicología a partir de referentes como Graciela Zaldúa, Nina Brugo, Martha Rosenberg, Débora Tajer y Elsa Schvartzman. En la segunda parte se desarrollan dos trabajos: uno analiza el tratamiento del aborto en la formación de grado y otro, las prácticas de interrupción legal del embarazo desde los equipos de salud en el primer nivel de atención. El último apartado presenta la síntesis de producciones de fin de grado de estudiantes de Psicología acerca del tema del aborto.</p>

This chapter characterises the music and sound of queer experimental film. It starts out with a historical revision of some social, cinematographic and musical developments that impinged on the evolution of queer experimental film. It then theorises about the possibility of a queer sound and music. And it subsequently characterises three modalities of aural queerness: camp, noisiness and dissonance. These modes share an epistemic uncertainty about the location and the very matter of what counts as queer, so that queerness has to be explored as an open question or a potential frame of reference; as a possibility that is communicated by sound just as much as by the image. The chapter takes as examples of these modes both historical filmmakers, such as Jack Smith, Kenneth Anger, Andy Warhol and Barbara Hammer, and more recent ones, such as Hans Scheirl, David Domingo, Jennifer Reeves, Luther Price and William E. Jones.

Moving from the end of the Civil War through the mid-twentieth century, this chapter traces the twists and turns of cowboy life, both real and imagined, and explores various ways that religion has intersected with that history. It begins by outlining the work of cowboys in the second half of the nineteenth century and then turns to the noninstitutional means to evangelize to cowboys—in the form of wandering cowboy preachers and annual camp meetings—that were required to meet the cowboys’ lifestyle and work. The chapter then chronicles the rise and construction of the romantic image of the cowboy against the decline in the real-world cowboy profession, describing some of the uses, in entertainment and evangelism, that this image of the cowboy was put to.

Chapter 2 tells the story of the crash as it unfolded. At that moment much of the public discovered a previously hidden world of obscure financial instruments and deals. Prior to the crash, the public might get only occasional glimpses of high finance when one of its components failed. In 2007, almost the entire system came crashing down. The complexity and tight coupling of the shadow banking system had created the possibility of a chain reaction and in 2007 and 2008 the chain was yanked tight. These events shocked the general public, most economists and most of the shadow bankers themselves.

El monitoreo nutrimental en cultivos hortícolas representa una herramienta que ayuda a modificar y ajustar las dosis de fertilización originalmente proyectadas. En esta investigación a través de dos experimentos, se identificó la respuesta del cultivo de chile habanero (Capsicum chinense Jacq.) a la aplicación de nitrógeno y su concentración de nitratos en el extracto celular asociada al crecimiento y rendimiento. El primer estudio se realizó bajo condiciones de invernadero y en plántulas. Se estudiaron tres dosis de nitrógeno aplicadas en solución nutritiva y dos dosis de potasio. Se midió el crecimiento y rendimiento del cultivo, así como la concentración de nitratos y potasio en el extracto celular. En el segundo experimento, se estudiaron cuatro dosis de nitrógeno y se midió el rendimiento y la calidad del cultivo manejado en condiciones de campo. Así mismo durante el crecimiento del cultivo se midió la concentración de nitratos en el extracto celular. Los métodos, materiales utilizados, así como los resultados y conclusiones de cada experimento se presentan por separado. De forma general se concluyó que tanto en condiciones de invernadero como en campo a cielo abierto, el monitoreo de los nitratos en el extracto celular en chile habanero es una herramienta que se puede utilizar para hacer ajustes en la fertilización del cultivo a lo largo de su ciclo de crecimiento.

It would eventually serve (to employ the terminology of Pierre Bourdieu) as a rite of consecration, or of legitimization, as the regime and collaboration slowly hardened. But Pelléas was not a monolithic emblem of French cultural pride, nor was its message or its physical instantiation immutable or unequivocal. Through its successive performances the chapter traces the evolution of the regime as well as its vision, conception, and uses of French culture. It also discerns the way in which the Resistance appropriated and used the work in its clandestine publications.

Early in the sixteenth century, Italy came to represent the cultural vanguard in Europe both in terms of new ideas and in offering a literary model of the vernacular. English visitors to Italy such as William Thomas and William Barker saw this in action at the Accademia Fiorentina where Giovanni Gelli lectured on Dante. The academy itself is a model for the principle of ‘vulgarization’ set out in the preface to Hoby's Courtier. This is put into practice in the first short-story collection in English, William Painter's Palace of Pleasure, which takes Boccaccio as its stylistic authority and in its tales of transgression acts as a primer of social possibility for English readers. These translations from Italian would themselves be translated for the stage, and two of the many spin-offs from Painter, by George Whetstone and George Pettie, point in the direction of the public and private theatres respectively.

ELT activity was vigorous in many European countries, but it was only in Spain that political, cultural, economic, and personal factors combined to produce a new branch designed principally to create and market OUP English Language Teaching courses. After the death of Franco and the establishment of constitutional monarchy in the late 1970s, the country reformed its political and educational systems; as a result, Spain emerged as the largest single ELT market in the world. OUP established a sales office in Madrid in 1981, and later enlarged this into the branch OUP España, which came to be a prime example of a commercial success for OUP in a non-English-speaking market. Under the leadership of Jesús Lezcano, OUP España developed its own ELT publications and adapted other OUP titles for the local market, as well as producing Spanish-language textbooks.

Richard Whately (1787-1863) is an intriguing figure in John Henry Newman’s development. Through his mentoring and academic support, he taught the gifted young Newman to think for himself. But intellectual independence came at a price. After a close relationship in the mid-1820s, Newman began to steer a course of his own. In the tumultuous early 1830s, their friendship foundered, as they clashed over key theological issues: the authority of the church, the doctrine of the Trinity, the nature of revelation, and the reasonableness of religious belief. Newman had come to think that Whately's theology endangered orthodox Christianity. This conviction shaped his later opposition to other Oriel Noetics, who thought like Whately. Despite their conflicts, Newman drew on Whately's work in logic and rhetoric to formulate his own theory of the relation between faith and reason.

This chapter examines ideas about war, peace, and international relations over the century preceding independence, of which there were many more and in greater depth than widely supposed. It outlines how and why Indians first began to articulate views on the subject, and subsequently analyses these ideas. It proposes that, contrary to the opinion of some scholars, Indians thought carefully about the nature of international relations. Most importantly, it emphasizes the plurality of views on the subject, and explains how and why proponents of pragmatism in foreign relations came to be sidelined in the period immediately preceding independence. Several of the personalities developing notions of what a foreign policy for India should involve as of the early twentieth century, including India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, became important actors in formulating and implementing foreign policy post-independence.

It first provides an overview of the complex relationship between the Lebanese novel and nation-state before considering works published prior to the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War. It then examines novels that appeared during the war years (1975–1990), along with novels written either during or immediately after the war but set in the nineteenth or early twentieth century. It also looks at contemporary postwar novels that vary from realistic to fantastical, from epistolary to first-person narrative, and from fuṣ ḥa to colloquial Arabic. The chapter describes the violence that characterizes the current period, citing as examples the slew of political assassinations and abductions, Israeli attacks, Hizballah takeovers, turmoil in the Palestinian camps, sectarian battles in Tripoli, and suicide car bombings, all reflected in the contemporary Lebanese novel.

Abnormalities of the cilium, termed ‘ciliopathies’, are the prime suspect in the pathogenesis of renal cyst formation because the gene products of cystic disease-causing genes localize to them, or near them. However, we only partially understand how cilia maintain the geometry of kidney tubules, and how abnormal cilia lead to renal cysts, and the diverse range of diseases attributed to them. Some non-cystic diseases share pathology of the same structures. Although still incompletely understood, cilia appear to orient cells in response to extracellular cues to maintain the overall geometry of a tissue, thereby intersecting with the planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway and the actin cytoskeleton. The PCP pathway controls two morphogenetic programmes, oriented cell division (OCD) and convergent extension (CE) through cell intercalation that both seem to play a critical role in cyst formation. The two-hit theory of cystogenesis, by which loss of the second normal allele causes tubular epithelial cells to form kidney cysts, has been largely borne out. Additional hits and influences may better explain the rate of cyst formation and inter-individual differences in disease progression. Ciliary defects appear to converge on overlapping signalling modules, including mammalian target of rapamycin and cAMP pathways, which can be targeted to treat human cystic kidney disease irrespective of the underlying gene mutation.

This chapter analyses AMISOM’s genesis with reference to four important developments in Somalia and the Horn of Africa in the aftermath of al-Qa’ida’s attack on the United States on 11 September 2001. First, was the establishment of a Transitional Federal Government (TFG) for Somalia in 2004, after more than a dozen failed attempts. Second, the African Union and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) responded to the subsequent call by the new TFG president for a peacebuilding mission to help his regime establish itself inside Somalia. The third development came in June 2006 with the decisive victory of the Union of Islamic Courts over the various warlords that had previously run Mogadishu and much of south-central Somalia. Finally, AMISOM emerged as an exit strategy for Ethiopia’s troops after Prime Minister Meles Zenawi decided to intervene militarily to install the TFG in Mogadishu in December 2006.

This chapter offers an overview of black women informal workers both as wage earners and entrepreneurs, positioning their experiences at the center of New York's informal labor market. It highlights working-class black women's socioeconomic conditions and the ways in which economic distress coupled with varying perceptions of urban public space and racial uplift motivated some women's attraction to nontraditional modes of labor. New York black women viewed the economic and social opportunities offered by off-the-books labor as a path toward altering the recipe of possibilities for themselves. But securing extralegal and unlicensed labor that disrupted normative gender roles and racial hierarchies and ideas about public decorum came at a price. Collateral consequences were certainly part of some black women's trajectory as underground workers and entrepreneurs. This chapter also considers the dangers and obstacles associated with self-employment and laboring for employers willing to pay them under the table.

Seeking Truth and Hiding Facts argues that the Chinese government adopted a system of limited, quantified vision in order to survive the disasters unleashed by Mao Zedong’s ideological leadership, explains how that system worked, and analyzes how problems accumulated in its blind spots leading Xi Jinping to take the regime into a neopolitical turn. Xi’s new normal is an attempt to fix the problems of the prior system, as well as a hedge against an inability to do so. The book argues that while of course dictators stay in power through coercion and co-optation, they also do so by convincing their populations and themselves of their right to rule. Quantification is one tool in this persuasive arsenal, but it comes with its own perils.

The vacuum cleaner was an archetypal new economy product of the early twentieth century. It offered both major time savings and qualitative advantages over previous household cleaning methods—the brush, broom, and manual carpet sweeper—and was sold in a novel way (by household demonstration). The direct sales techniques pioneered by vacuum manufacturers in the United States were to have a profound impact on the way vacuums were sold in Britain, and globally. Yet by 1939 their household diffusion was relatively slow compared to refrigerators or washing machines. This chapter explores why the industry evolved a structure based on high prices, high cost distribution methods (door-to-door sales), and a strong emphasis on non-price competition, based on differentiation through features. It also shows how door-to-door selling eventually came to constitute both a key firm-level competitive advantage and a substantial industry-level constraint on product diffusion.

La clave del éxito de un sistema educativo se encuentra en la calidad de sus docentes, maestros de preescolar y primaria, profesores de secundaria y educación superior. Un buen profesional de la docencia debe tener condiciones naturales para el ejercicio de la actividad educativa, principios éticos, capacidad de trabajo en equipo, disponibilidad y empatía hacia sus alumnos y compañeros. Los supuestos anteriores son condición para el éxito en la docencia, pero si no van acompañados de una buena formación cultural y científica en su respectivo campo de especialidad, y de una excelente formación pedagógica de base y actualizada de forma permanente, el profesor no se verá recompensado con un buen reconocimiento profesional. Los sistemas educativos de África en el siglo XXI, para avanzar y mejorar, necesitan muy buenos profesores, que deben poseer una formación científica y pedagógica de primer nivel. Este “III Foro de África, educación y desarrollo” busca precisamente contribuir a mejorar la formación de los docentes africanos con un cupo muy representativo de textos originales, escritos sobre el tema y que son resultado de investigaciones precedentes.
