Cyclopropylamine borane C3H5NH2BH3 (C3AB), 2-ethyl-1-hexylamine borane CH3(CH2)3CH(C2H5)CH2NH2BH3 (C2C6AB) and didodecylamine borane (C12H25)2NHBH3 ((C12)2AB) are three new amine borane adducts (ABAs). They are synthesized by reaction of the corresponding amines with a borane complex, the reaction being exothermic as shown by Calvet calorimetry. The successful synthesis of each has been demonstrated by FTIR, Raman and NMR. For instance, the 11B NMR spectra show the presence of signals typical of the NBH3 environment, thereby implying the formation of B–N bonds. The occurrence of dihydrogen bonds (DHBs) for each of the ABAs has been highlighted by DSC and FTIR, and supported by DFT calculations (via the Mulliken charges for example). When heated, the three ABAs behave differently: C3AB and C2C6AB decompose from 68 to 100 °C whereas (C12)2AB is relatively stable up to 173 °C. That means that these ABAs are not appropriate as hydrogen carriers, but the ‘most’ stable (C12)2AB could open perspectives for the synthesis of advanced materials.

Change detection (CD) is one of the essential tasks in remote sensing image processing and analysis. Remote sensing CD is a process of determining and evaluating changes in various surface objects over time. The impressive achievements of deep learning in image processing and computer vision provide an innovative concept for the task of CD. However, existing methods based on deep learning still have problems detecting small changed regions correctly and distinguishing the boundaries of the changed regions. To solve the above shortcomings and improve the efficiency of CD networks, inspired by the fact that an attention mechanism can refine features effectively, we propose an attention-based network for remote sensing CD, which has two important components: an asymmetric convolution block (ACB) and a combined attention mechanism. First, the proposed method extracts the features of bi-temporal images, which contain two parallel encoders with shared weights and structures. Then, the feature maps are fed into the combined attention module to reconstruct the change maps and obtain refined feature maps. The proposed CANet is evaluated on the two publicly available datasets for challenging remote sensing image CD. Extensive empirical results with four popular metrics show that the designed framework yields a robust CD detector with good generalization performance. In the CDD and LEVIR-CD datasets, the F1 values of the CANet are 3.3% and 1.3% higher than those of advanced CD methods, respectively. A quantitative analysis and qualitative comparison indicate that our method outperforms competitive baselines in terms of both effectiveness and robustness.

Background: In laparoscopic cholecystectomy prevention of certain life-threatening complications are dependent on proper patient selection. Some reliable factors to predict difficulty, conversion or complications in laparoscopic cholecystectomy are needed. In the present research attempt was made to study correlation between pre-operative abdominal ultrasonographic findings and difficultly in laparoscopic cholecystectomy.Methods: Sixty patients above age of 18 years with gall stone admitted for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy were included. Pre-operative ultrasonographic parameters such as gallbladder wall thickness and size, gallstone mobility, common bile duct (CBD) diameter, size and number of calculi, presence of pericholecystic fluid collection were given score of 0 or 1 based on findings being negative or positive respectively. Total score was correlated to intraoperative difficulty of surgery. Operative findings were graded as difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomy if there were presence of dense peri gall bladder adhesions, difficulty in dissection of Calot triangle, tear of gallbladder, bleeding that hindered visual field, abnormal anatomy of biliary tree and buried or intrahepatic gall bladder.Results: Pre-operative USG findings such as gall bladder wall thickness and size, impacted and size of gall stones, CBD diameter, presence of pericholecystic fluid collection were significantly associated with difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Gall bladder wall thickness, pericholecystic fluid collection and impacted gall stones were accurate predictors for difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Higher the pre-operative USG score, higher were the percentage of difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomy and conversion to open cholecystectomy.Conclusions: Pre-operative ultrasonography in the form of the formulated score is a good predictor of difficulty in laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

The adsorption of the first five members of the aliphatic alcohol series on α-Al2O3 has been studied at 25–200°C by means of a heat-flow Calvet microcalorimeter (moderately high temperature). At very low coverage and at 25°C, the values of the differential heats of adsorption of the different alcohols were very high (250–200 kJ/mol) and were apparently independent of the chain length. However, at average coverage, the chain length of the alcohol began to influence both the values and the trends in the differential heats of adsorption of the various alcohols on α-Al2O3. Finally, at high coverage, it was found that the incorporation of each additional –CH2–group in the homologous series led to a decrease in both the integral heat of adsorption and the amount of alcohol adsorbed according to the series MeOH > EtOH > 1-PrOH > 1-BuOH > 1-PeOH. Increasing the temperature led to an increasing dependence of the differential heat on the chain length of the alcohol. In addition, from measurements of the thermokinetic parameters for the heat emission peaks for the adsorbed alcohols, it has been deduced that all five aliphatic alcohols studied adsorb on to an α-Al2O3 surface in an open-chain perpendicular fashion.

Background: For Common Bile Duct (CBD) stones an Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is done prior to cholecystectomy. However, the ideal timing of cholecystectomy following ERCP is still a matter of debate. The aim of the present study was to observe the possible impact of ERCP on subsequent laparoscopic cholecystectomy.Material and Methods: This case control study was carried out in the Department of Surgery Unit 1, Holy Family hospital, Rawalpindi, from January 2018 to March 2019. A total number of 300 patients of symptomatic gallstones presenting to outpatient department were enrolled. Two groups, A (control group) and B (case group) were made on the basis of absence or presence of CBD stones, respectively. Group A underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy within three working days of admission. In group B, ERCP was performed prior to cholecystectomy. Primary operating surgeon filled structured questionnaires for each patient immediately after surgery to compare operative differences between both groups. The baseline demographic details, clinical characteristics, laboratory investigations and peri-operative findings of both groups were recorded. Means and percentages were calculated with P value <0.05 regarded as statistically significant.Results: Majority of patients in this study were females (81%) of middle age group (42.5+15 years). Biliary colic was most common presenting complaint in both groups (33%). Dissection in triangle of Calot (P=0.00) and removal of gallbladder from liver bed (P=0.00) was significantly more difficult in group B than A. Intra-abdominal lavage was also done more often in post ERCP group (P=0.00). However procedural time did not vary between the two groups (P=0.19).Conclusions: Preoperative ERCP increases difficulty in laparoscopic cholecystectomy but does not prolong procedural time.Key words: Choledocholithiasis, Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, Laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Рассматривается психологическая готовность курсантов женского пола военного летного училища к первому самостоятельному полёту. Представлены результаты исследования, полученные с применением методики Ч.Д. Спилбергера «Шкала самооценки уровня тревожности», теста дифференциальной самооценки функционального состояния (САН), экспертного метода оценки по ТЭО, разработанного В.И. Цуваровым, а также опросника незаконченных предложений, разработанного сотрудниками Краснодарского высшего военного авиационного училища. Психологическую готовность курсантов женского пола к выполнению первого самостоятельного полёта можно охарактеризовать как психическое и активно-действенное состояние, которое проявляется в мобилизации психофизиологического и психологического ресурса личности на выполнение полёта. Сделан вывод о том, что психологическая готовность курсанта военного летного училища к первому самостоятельному полету должна рассматриваться как часть профессионального становления и пониматься как сложное комплексное интегративное образование, представляющее динамическую структуру и включающее большое многообразие различных компонентов, влияющих на качество выполнения полетного задания. The article discusses the features of psychological readiness of female cadets of the military flight school for the first independent flight. The results of the study obtained using the methodology «Scale of self-assessment of anxiety level», developed by C.D. Spielberger and adapted in our country by Yu.L. Khanin, the test of differential self-assessment of functional state (SAN), the expert method of evaluation by feasibility study, developed by V.I. Tsuvarov, as well as the questionnaire of unfinished proposals, developed by the staff of the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation School, are presented. The psychological readiness of female cadets to perform the first independent flight can be characterized as a mental and active state, which manifests itself in the mobilization of the psychophysiological and psychological resources of the individual to perform the flight. It is concluded that the psychological readiness of a cadet of a military flight school for the first independent flight should be considered as part of professional development and understood as a complex, integrated, integrative education, representing a dynamic structure and including a wide variety of different components that affect the quality of the flight task.

CALET (CALorimetric Electron Telescope) is a high energy astroparticle physics experiment designed for long-term observations of high-energy Cosmic Rays (CRs) on the International Space Station (ISS). The mission is funded by the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA), in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and NASA. CALET reached the ISS on August 24, 2015 and, at the time of writing, the instrument is operating in science data mode: a two year period of observations has started with a target of 5 years. The purpose of the experiment is to perform precise measurements of high energy cosmic rays, with an extensive physics program that includes the detection of possible nearby sources of high energy electrons; searches for signatures of dark matter in the spectra of electrons and γ rays; monitoring gamma-ray transients and solar modulation; long exposure observations of cosmic nuclei from proton to iron and trans-iron elements; measurements of the CR relative abundances and secondary-to-primary ratios. The telescope is an all-calorimetric instrument, with a total thickness of 30 radiation length (X 0 ) and 1.3 proton interaction length (λ I ), preceded by a particle identification system. The instrument is composed of three main subsystem: at the top a Charge Detector (CHD) identifies the individual chemical elements in the cosmic-ray flux, then a fine granulated pre-shower IMaging Calorimeter (IMC) is followed by a Total Absorption Calorimeter (TASC) measuring the energy released. The CHD is designed to provide incident particle charge measurement over a wide dynamic range, from Z = 1 to Z = 40 with sufficient charge resolution to resolve individual elements. The IMC can image the early shower profile and reconstruct the incident direction of cosmic rays with good angular resolution. The TASC measures the total energy of the incident particle and discriminates electrons and gamma-rays from hadrons. The main subject of the present thesis is the study of the performance of CALET in the identification of cosmic nuclei, by combining both IMC and CHD detectors. A clear identification of the incoming nuclei and the measurement of their energy is crucial both to measure absolute fluxes and the ratio of the fluxes of secondary-to-primary elements. From measurements of the energy dependence of the flux ratio it is possible to discriminate among different models of CR propagation in the galaxy. The first chapter of the thesis provides an introduction to cosmic-ray physics, cosmic-ray propagation and acceleration. In chapter 2 the CALET instrument is described in detail and the anticipated telescope performances and the experimental program are reported. Chapters 3 and 4 include the original work of this thesis. The third chapter is focused on two aspects of the energy calibration process: the first one related to the energy position dependence correction in CHD, the second one to the correction for the quenching effect in the CHD and IMC. The fourth chapter is focused on the identification of cosmic nuclei: charge tagging using both the IMC and the CHD and the performance in terms of the charge resolution of both detectors are described in view of an accurate determination of light element fluxes with CALET. Finally in chapter 5 an overview on the current status of the CALET mission is given.

ALKOR cruise AL548 took place as part of the EMFF (European Maritime and Fisheries Fund)-funded project BASTA (Boost Applied munition detection through Smart data inTegration and AI workflows; https://www.basta-munition.eu) and as continuation of the munition monitoring started within the BMBF-funded project UDEMM (Environmental Monitoring for the Delaboration of Munition in the Sea; https://udemm.geomar.de/). In October 2018, a first cruise (POS530 MineMoni2018) was conducted, to gather data for a broad baseline study in the German Baltic Sea. Results show a moderate contamination level on regional and coastal scale, but indicate higher levels for specific local areas. Within UDEMM, expertise was developed to detect, exactly locate and monitor munition (e.g. torpedoes, sea mines, ground mines) on the seafloor using optical and hydroacoustic means. In addition, chemical analyses of dissolved contaminants in the water and sediments was performed. Data acquired during this cruise are used in BASTA, which aims for enhanced munition detection via AUV-based artificial intelligence applied on multi-sensor datasets. At the same time, the project ExPloTect (Ex-situ, near-real-time exPlosive compound deTection in seawater) (also EMFF-funded) addresses the need for an innovative approach to detect explosive compounds in seawater. A prototype system was used and successfully tested for the first time during this cruise. The main focus was placed onto the two already known dumpsites Kolberger Heide and Lübeck Bight. Additionally, new areas Falshöft (Schleswig-Holstein) and Cadet Channel, Trollegrund and Großklützhöved (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) were explored. In each area high-resolution multibeam mapping was performed and contact lists, indicating potential munition objects were produced on board. AUV surveys were conducted to ground-truth possible contacts via detailed photograph and magnetometer mapping. This was complemented with towed video (TV)-CTD profiles. The transits to and between those sites were planned along former constraint routes during WWII. These routes were main targets of the British Air Force and mines and bombs can be expected along these ways. During transits water samples were taken with on a CTD- (conductivity, temperature, depth) rosette-mounted Niskin bottles in regular distances, in order to obtain a comprehensive understanding munition compounds (inter alia trinitrotoluene (TNT)) measurements across the German Baltic Sea.
